2011 SUBARU OUTBACK STALLED ON A HILL ON A HIGHWAY WHILE THE CARE WHILE ACCELERATING AND EMERGENCY CODES CAME ON. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE ARE MAJOR ISSUES WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION. FOUND OUT THAT SUBARU HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS STALLING ISSUE FOR SOME TIME NOW AND INSTEAD OF DOING A RECALL; HAS JUST EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR SOME TIME. WHEN I VISITED THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP IN THE PAST; NO ONE ALERTED ME TO THINK POSSIBLE ISSUE. THANKFULLY, NO ONE WAS HURT WHEN IT OCCURRED TO ME BUT STALLING ON A HIGHWAY CAN DEFINITELY LEAD TO INJURIES.
MY VEHICLE WAS COVERED UNDER THE 'EXTENDED WARRANTY' SUBARU OFFERED AFTER MY OEM TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING AND OVERHEATING WITH 154,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. 13 MONTHS, AND 28,000 MILES LATER, MY SECOND TRANSMISSION IS FAILING. I HAVE AN OFFER FROM SUBARU OF AMERICA FOR A $2000 CREDIT TO TRADE IN MY CAR ON A NEW SUBARU. THE DEALERSHIP THAT PERFORMED THE WARRANTY WORK ALSO OFFERED ME %50 COVERAGE SINCE IT WAS CLOSE TO THE 12 MONTH WARRANTY THEY OFFER ON WORK. I DO NOT WANT A NEW CAR, I WANT MY CAR TO BE ABLE TO LAST. 18,000 MILES ON A TRANSMISSION IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH AND A CONSUMER SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXPECT AT LEAST 75,000 MILES OR 3 YEARS. THESE CVTS ARE FLAWED, AND SUBARU CUSTOMERS NEED TO BE TREATED BETTER THAN THIS, AT LEAST FROM CORPORATE. SUBARU DESERVES TO RECALL THIS PART AND TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE. AT THE VERY LEAST THE CONSECUTIVE TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD BE WARRANTIED AS A NEW PART AND NOT CONSIDERED PART OF THE CURRENT VEHICLE POWER TRAIN MILEAGE WARRANTY. I'VE BEEN A LOYAL SUBARU OWNER FOR 12 YEARS, DRIVING 3 DIFFERENT CARS. I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO ACCEPT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIPS OFFER TO REPLACE THE PART, AND I'M DISGUSTED BY SUBARU OF AMERICA'S OFFER TO BUY ANOTHER ONE OF THEIR SHODDY VEHICLES FOR A SMALL DISCOUNT. I HOPE THAT THIS COMMENT PERSUADES THE NHTSA TO MANDATE A RECALL, AND THE COMPANY TO CHANGE ITS PRACTICES, I ALSO HOPE THAT READERS WILL RECONSIDER THEIR SUBARU'S, AND GET OUT OF THEIR UNSAFE CARS AS LONG AS THEY CAN DO SO. THIS COMPANY IS NOT WORTH IT, DON'T BE FOOLED BY THEIR MARKETING CAMPAIGNS. CHOOSE A TOYOTA SUV OR TRUCK.
CVT FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING..CAR SHUDDERED, DASH LIGHTS CAME ON AND STALLED OUT. MILEAGE: 115.000...JUST OVER EXTENDED WARRANTY. COST OF REPAIRS 9,597.70 PLUS TAX. CONTACTED SUBARU....THEY WILL NOT HELP.
MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING FROM MARYLAND TO NEW YORK CITY LATE AT NIGHT. ALL OF A SUDDEN, WE HEARD A GRINDING NOISE AND WITHIN 30 MINUTES OUR CAR COMPLETELY BROKE DOWN. NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON IN THE CAR INDICATING THERE WAS A SERIOUS ISSUE. WE HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF THE VERRAZANO BRIDGE. HAD THE CAR STOPPED ON THE BRIDGE, WE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED, IF NOT KILLED. WE CAME TO FIND OUT THAT IT WAS A FULL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE SUBARU DEALER IN NEW YORK INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO TRANSMISSION FLUID LEFT IN THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY SIGNS OF A LEAK. THE VALVE BODY WAS REPAIRED IN SEPTEMBER 2017 AND AT THAT TIME IT WAS COVERED UNDER SUBARU'S EXTENDED CVT WARRANTY. AT THE TIME OF THAT REPAIR WORK, THE SUBARU SERVICE CENTER WHO DID THE WORK CONFIRMED THAT THEY HAD ADDED SOME TRANSMISSION FLUID TO THE CAR. WE CONTACTED SUBARU OF AMERICA TO SEE IF THEY WOULD HELP US WITH THE COST OF A NEW TRANSMISSION, SINCE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD ONLY JUST EXPIRED ON JULY 31, 2018 (OUR CAR BROKE DOWN ON AUGUST 28) AND BECAUSE WE HAD ALREADY HAD TRANSMISSION WORK DONE LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. SUBARU OF AMERICAN VERY RUDELY INFORMED US THAT THEY HAVE "ZERO FINANCIAL OBLIGATION TO US" AND WOULD NOT BE HELPING US WITH THE COST OF REPAIRS ($7000 TO REPAIR). WE ARE BESIDE OURSELVES WITH HOW THIS HAPPENED TO OUR CAR. HOW CAN WE HAVE A FULL TRANSMISSION FAILURE LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER TRANSMISSION WORK WAS DONE ON THE CAR AND HAVE NO WARNING LIGHTS COME ON IN THE CAR INDICATING THERE WAS AN ISSUE? HOW DID ALL OF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK OUT OF OUR CAR WITHOUT US KNOWING, AND HOW IS IT THAT SUBARU IS UNABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE LEAK? AND WHAT KIND OF COMPANY DOES NOT STAND BY AND HELP A CUSTOMER WITH AN ISSUE THAT THEY CLEARLY KNEW WAS OCCURRING (HENCE EXTENDED THE CVT WARRANTY TO BEGIN WITH)? SUBARU SHOULD HAVE ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE.
ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE DEFECTIVE. NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN PUSHING IN THE BUTTON OR PULLING. THE BRAKE LIGHT CONTINUES TO FLASH. THIS FEATURE NO LONGER WORKS, AND APPEARS TO ALSO EFFECT THE HILL HOLDER AS THIS NO LONGER WORKS EITHER. ISN'T SAFE TO PUT ONTO A JACK WHILE CHANGING A TIRE WITH THIS FUNCTION NOT WORKING AS IT WILL ROLL OFF THE JACK.
CAR RECENTLY BEGAN TO ALMOST STALL WHILE DRIVING AFTER COMING TO A STOP OR WHILE TRAVELING AT LOW SPEEDS. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THEN CAME ON AND THE ERROR CODE INDICATES A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. TOOK THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS AND THEY SAID THAT THE CAR NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. CAR WAS DEALER SERVICED FOR THE RECOMMENDED 100,000 MILE SERVICE IN AUGUST '17; NO MENTION OF THE KNOWN TRANSMISSION ISSUES WAS MADE. NOW 3 WEEKS AFTER THE "EXTENDED WARRANTY" PERIOD HAS EXPIRED THE TRANSMISSION APPEARS TO HAVE FAILED. WAS CHARGED OVER $200 FOR THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. CURRENTLY WAITING TO SEE IF SUBARU CORPORATE WILL STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT; IN ANY EVENT THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE WIDESPREAD AND POSSES A HAZARD TO MOTORISTS SINCE THE AFFECTED VEHICLES CAN STOP, STALL, OR LOOSE POWER WHILE ON THE ROAD WITH LITTLE TO NO WARNING.
VEHICLE SHUDDERS AND STALLS OUT WHILE DECELERATING ON APPROACH TO INTERSECTION OR TO STOP CREATING A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHILE IN TRAFFIC. THIS HAS HAPPENED MOSTLY ON CITY STREETS BUT IN BUSY URBAN TRAFFIC IT IS PARTICULARLY PROBLEMATIC.
THE CAR STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON FLASHING, PROMPTING US TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY WITH OUR TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN BACK. WE HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED AND OUR MECHANIC NOTED THE COMPUTER CODES WERE FOR THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE THAT SUBARU WAS EXTENDING THE WARRANTY FOR. WE TOOK IT TO 2 SUBARU DEALERS TO CONFIRM, WHICH THE 2ND ONE DID AFTER THE 1ST ONE REFUSED TO LOOK AT THE CAR. UNFORTUNATELY, SINCE IT HAPPENED 11 DAYS AFTER THEIR WARRANTY EXPIRED THEY WON'T FIX IT UNLESS WE PAY $4000+ OR TRADE IT IN FOR A BRAND NEW CAR WHICH WE CAN'T AFFORD. IF THEY KNEW THIS WAS AN ISSUE TO PROVIDE A WARRANTY ON IT THEN THEY SHOULD REPAIR IT FOR FREE AS THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AS-IS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL.
UPON PARKING IN A ROUTINE PARKING SPOT IN OUR APARTMENT PARKING GARAGE, I TURNED THE CORNER AND ACCELERATED SOME, AS I ALWAYS DID, TO GET TO THE PARKING SPOT TO BACK IN. AS SOON AS I WENT TO REVERSE IT, THE CAR ACCELERATED FULLY ON ITS OWN ACCORD. I WAS ABLE TO PRESS THE BREAK AND STOP THE VEHICLE BUT SINCE I WAS ONLY ABOUT 10 FEET FROM ANOTHER CAR AND THE WALL OF THE PARKING GARAGE, I WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP IN TIME TO AVOID A COLLISION. I HIT THE CORNER OF THE CEMENT WALL WITH THE FRONT LEFT HEADLIGHT PORTION OF THE VEHICLE.
THE GREEN LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND WOULD NOT UNLOCK . I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AND THE RED BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER AN ATTEMPT TO RELEASE THE GREEN LIGHT IT CAME OFF ON ITS OW. THE SAME THING HAS OCCURRED, BOTH THE RED AND GREEN LIGHT ARE ON AND NOT GOING OFF.
TORQUE CONVERTER ISSUE
MY WIFE AND CHILDREN WERE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO SHIFT HARD, AS MY WIFE SLOWED DOWN THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT STRANDING THEM ON A BUSY HIGHWAY . THEY WERE STUCK ON THE HIGHWAY IN 100 DEGREE TEMPERATURES UNTIL A TOW TRUCK ARIVED. WE HAD THIS TOWED TO A SUBARU DEALER AND WE WERE TOLD IT WAS A TRANSMISSION ERROR THAT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE BY SUBARU. SUBARU ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRENTY TO CORRECT THE ISSUE HOWEVER WE WERE 3 DAYS TO LATE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OFFER. I CONTACTED SUBARU TO REQUEST THAT THEY COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR SINCE IT WAS A KNOWN FAULT IN THE TRANSMISSION PARTS USED IN THE VEHICLE. THEY REFUSED TO HELP WITH ANY OF THE REPAIRS.
INTERMITENT: STEADY ICONS: CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM FLASHING ICONS: BRAKE CRUISE FROM STARTING THE VEHICLE ICONS LISTED ABOVE ARE ACTIVE. ENGINE IS VERY HARD TO START WHEN PUT IN GEAR, UNABLE TO MOVE CAR. SOLUTION IS TO TURN CAR OFF, WAIT AND RESTART. THIS MIGHT REQUIRE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. EVENTUALLY, VEHICLE WILL RESUME NORMAL OPERATEION. DEALERSHIP SERVICE PERSONEL DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM.

TAMARA RECALL I HAVE HAD MY 2011 OUTBACK FOR 4 MONTHS NOW AND HAVE GONE THROUGH 3 SETS OF LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS. NOT SURE WHY THEY KEEP DYING PREMATURELY. I HAVE GOTTEN MORE EXPENSIVE BULBS EVERY TIME AND NOW THE $60 BULBS ARE DOING THE SAME THING. I FEEL THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE AND I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE FORUMS DESCRIBING THE SAME ISSUE FROM OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL.

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED DAILY FOR AT LEAST FIVE MONTHS, BUT WENT AWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
FREQUENT HEADLIGHT BURNOUT (HAVE HAD TO REPLACE HEADLIGHT BULBS 4 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR) REVIEW OF DATA ONLINE INDICATES THAT SUBARU RECOGNIZED THIS AS A PROBLEM AND WAS OFFERING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THESE COSTS TO CONSUMERS. DEADLINE WAS 2016. CLASS ACTION SUITS HAVE ALSO BEEN FILED. PLEASE HELP! THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO CONTINUALLY NEED TO REPLACE BULBS SO FREQUENTLY AND EXPENSIVE SINCE THEY ARE NOT EASY TO DO ON MY OWN
TAKATA RECALL - ALSO, WIPER MOTOR SAFETY RECALL. I'VE ATTEMPTED TO WORK WITH SUBARU TO GET THESE TWO RECALLS ADDRESSED, AND MADE TWO PHONE CALLS IN EARLY APRIL, AND AFTER BEING TOLD TO WAIT AND BE CONTACTED BY AN APPROVED DEALERSHIP, THERE WAS NO FOLLOW-UP AND NO APPOINTMENT SET. AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS OF WAITING I CONTACTED SUBARU AGAIN, THIS TIME THROUGH EMAIL ON MAY 20TH, AND WAS AGAIN TOLD TO WAIT TO BE CONTACTED BY THE CLOSEST APPROVED DEALERSHIP, WHICH IS MORE THAN 40 MILES AWAY IN MY CASE. THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS, SUBARU HAS MADE NO ATTEMPT TO ACCOMMODATE THE DISTANCE OR TIME REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. STILL, I'VE DONE AS THEY ASKED AND WAITED TO BE CONTACTED BY MY CLOSEST APPROVED DEALERSHIP (CHATHAM PARKWAY SUBARU), AND AGAIN THERE WAS NO FOLLOW-UP. I'VE BEEN ATTEMPTING TO GET THESE RECALLS ADDRESSED SINCE APRIL 4TH, AND HAVE GROWN INCREASINGLY FRUSTRATED WITH HOW DIFFICULT ITS BEEN TO GET THEIR ATTENTION. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS THE APPROPRIATE AVENUE TO FILE SUCH A COMPLAINT, BUT I'M UNSURE OF EXACTLY WHAT OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE TO ME AT THIS POINT. I JUST WANT TO HAVE TWO SAFETY RECALLS REPAIRED.
BOUGHT A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK ON FEBRUARY 7, 2018 FROM DEALERSHIP, 90K MILES. I'VE OWED THIS CAR FOR 5 WEEKS AND ONE DAY AND I FINALLY HAD TIME TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM BULB (WHICH BLEW OUT ABOUT 3 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE BUT IS UNDER WARRANTY) AND ALSO BOTH BROW LIGHTS (DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS). ONE WAS DIM, THE OTHER WAS OUT. I BROUGHT THE BULBS AND GAVE THEM TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE INSTALLED. WHEN FINISHED REPLACING, DEALERSHIP SAID I HAD A TAIL LIGHT OUT TOO. I TOLD THEM I WOULD REPLACE AND WENT ACROSS THE STREET TO PURCHASE A BULB. DROVE HOME AND WENT TO REPLACE TAIL LIGHT AND NOTICED I HAD TWO OUT, ONE ON EACH SIDE?! CONFUSED, I GRABBED A FRIEND TO VERIFY AND AFTER A BIT, I ENDED UP TAPPING THE LIGHT LENSE AND THE LIGHT CAME ON. BOTH OF THEM DID AFTER TAPPING EACH LENSE. CHECKED THE BULBS AND THEY WERE SECURE. ALSO, ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE, I HAD A PLATE LIGHT OUT. AGAIN, I BOUGHT BULBS AND WHEN I WENT TO REPLACE, IT WAS MIRACULOUSLY WAS WORKING.
TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL. NO ONE CAN TELL ME IF MY CAR NEEDS A NEW AIRBAG. MY GRANDDAUGHTER HAS TO RIDE IN THAT FRONT SEAT AS THERE ARE 3 GRAND CHILDREN IN THE BACK. I DON'T WANT TO KEEP PUTTING HER IN DANGER (DATE BELOW IS DATE I WRITING THIS COMPLANT

HARLEY SWAIN SUBARU (1915 N 1ST ST, HERMINSTON, OR) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN AT GARAVEL SUBARU (10 TINDALL AVE, NORWALK, CT 06851, (203) 642-0620) FOR MONTHS DUE TO AN INTERNAL OIL LEAK THAT WAS IMPACTING THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OIL WARNING INDICATOR FAILED TO ILLUMINATE IN A TIMELY MANNER TO ALERT THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS LOW. THE DEALER ALSO REPLACED THE WHEEL BEARINGS SEVERAL TIMES. THE RADIO, SPEAKER PHONE, AND GPS WERE ALSO SERVICED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THE FAILURES RECURRED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

THE SUBARU OUTBACK 2011 HAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH HEADLIGHTS BURNING OUT FREQUENTLY. I REPLACE 7 HEADLIGHTS ON MY VEHICLE SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN SEPTEMBER 2017 COSTING ME $200. THE OUTBACK HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR LIGHTBULB REPLACEMENT, BUT THAT ENDS IN 2021, AND CAUSES THE DRIVER THE INCONVENIENCE OF FREQUENTLY TAKING THE VEHICLE IN TO HAVE HEADLIGHTS REPLACED. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE CREATED TO FIX THIS ISSUE.
ISSUE - STALLING WHILE BRAKING HARD OR STOPPING (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) WHAT HAPPENED - MY 2011 SUBARU HAS JUST UNDER 80K MILEAGE. IT HAS NOW HAPPENED TO ME 3X THIS WEEK AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THE CAR HASN'T BEEN DRIVEN IN HOURS (MORNING EARLY ON MY WAY TO WORK OR ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK). IN THE MORNING, I WAS DRIVING DOWN A STREET TO DROP OFF MY KIDS AT SCHOOL. I NEEDED TO MAKE A LEFT, BUT SINCE THERE WAS ONCOMING TRAFFIC, I HAD TO BRAKE. IT WAS NOT A GRADUAL BRAKE, BUT WAS A BIT SUDDEN. THE CAR SHUDDERED AND STALLED. IT IS SIMILAR TO WHAT HAPPENS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS IF YOU ARE IN GEAR AND COME TO A STOP WITHOUT PRESSING THE CLUTCH. BUT MY CAR IS AN AUTOMATIC, SO I HAD TO PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTART IT. IF THE CAR STALLED WHILE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION OR IF I PANICKED, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. CAUSE - UNKNOWN. IT AT THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AND THEY ARE TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT. SOME ONLINE SOURCES MENTIONED THE TORQUE CONVERTER OR SENSORS.
STEERING FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE IN MOTION ON CITY STREET. WARNING LIGHT APPEARED ON DASH BRIEFLY, THEN STEERING FAILED - CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO BE STEERED. CAR WAS ROLLED INTO PARKING LOT AND TOW TRUCK CALLED. VEHICLE WAS ON IT'S WAY TO INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. DEALER DETERMINED POWER STEERING HOSE CONNECTIONS TO "JUNCTION" HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED, CAUSING ALL FLUID TO LEAK OUT OF SYSTEM. SUBARU OF AMERICA WAS CONTACTED AND STATES THAT "SINCE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN IN AN AREA WHERE SALT IS USED ON ROADS IN WINTER, THIS IS NOT UNEXPECTED". IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT LESS THAN 12 MONTHS PRIOR, THIS SAME VEHICLE'S BRAKE SYSTEM TOTALLY FAILED, FROM RUSTED HOSES. SUBARU OF AMERICA GAVE THE SAME REASON FOR THAT FAILURE.
2011 OUTBACK AND HAVE REPLACED THE DRIVERS SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT 4 TIMES AS OF TODAY. SEEMS TO BE FAILING WAY TOO OFTEN. VEHICLE HAS 41,000 MILES AND ALWAYS GARAGE KEPT, ORIGINAL OWNER.
WHEN HAVING TO COME TO A HARD STOP THE ENGINE WILL DIE. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES NOW. OUR SHOP RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND IT SHOWED A PROBLEM WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER.
I HAVE REPLACE ALL EXTERIOR LIGHTS MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE 6 YEARS I HAVE OWN THIS CAR.
MY VEHICLE HAS HAD TRANSMISSION RELATED ISSUES SINCE I PURCHASED IT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES TO HAVE IT ADDRESSED AND WAS ALWAYS TOLD IT WAS NOTHING. IN DEC. 2017 MY CAR BROKE DOWN WHILE ON VACATION IN FL, IT HAD 131,500 MILES AT THE TIME. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A VALVE BODY FAILURE. 10 MONTHS AND 7K MILES LATER IT IS NOW STALLING AND SHUTTING DOWN WHEN I BRAKE AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I NEED A NEW TORQUE CONVERTER. I NEVER RECEIVED THE LETTER ABOUT THE CVT TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND EXTENDED WARRANTY, NOR WAS THIS COVERED WHEN I HAD THE VALVE BODY REPLACED. THE CAR STALLING WHEN BRAKING IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL. I LUCKILY HAVE NOT HAD TO BRAKE TO THE POINT OF THE CAR SHUTTING DOWN WHEN DRIVING ON A ROAD WITH HIGHER SPEED LIMITS, IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED IN TOWN WHEN APPROACHING STOP LIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. THERE WAS UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVER WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. DRIVER SLOWED DOWN TO PULL INTO PARKING SPACE AND PUT CAR IN PARK WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR ACCELERATED AND SPED OVER CEMENT PARKING BLOCK AND CRASHED INTO THE CONCRETE BASE OF LIGHT POLE. THERE IS NO KNOWN RECALL. POLICE WERE CALLED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. *TT *JS
OVER THE PAST YEAR MY MECHANIC HAS PUT IN TWO NEW BATTERIES IN MY CAR. MY 2011 OUTBACK HAS A PROBLEM WITH STARTING, THIS WAS BACK WHEN I HAD 80,000 MILES ON IT. THE CONNECTORS WHERE FINE AND HE CLEANED THEM. THE ISSUE STILL HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED, HE CAN'T SEEM TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS CAUSING IT. THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE ALTERNATOR. THE PASSENGER REAR BRAKE LIGHT HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES IN FOUR YEARS OF OWNERSHIP, AGAIN NO CAUSE FOR THE PROBLEM. I'VE TAKEN IT TO AUTHORIZED SUBARU DEALERSHIPS AND THE ORIGINAL ONE I PURCHASED FROM TO NO PREVAIL. TODAY I WRITE WITH THE ISSUE OF MY CVT. THE FACT THAT I RECEIVED A ONE YEAR OR 100,000 MILES FROM DATE OF YEAR MADE IS OR WHICH EVER COMES FIRST IS COMPLETE CRAP. TODAY I STARTED EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE CAR WANTING TO WHAT I DESCRIBE AS STALLING OUT. I WAS GOING DOWN MY ROAD WHICH WAS SLUSHY FROM SNOW/RAIN BUT MAINLY WET FROM THE RAIN THAT CAME. SUBARU TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG, AND WON'T DO ANYTHING TILL SOMETHING BRAKES. SO IF THE PROBLEM WHICH HAS PLAGUED ALMOST FIFTY THOUSAND OUTBACKS CAUSING 'STALLING" LIKE MANUALS WHEN THE CLUTCH ISN'T ENGAGED AND BEING TOLD IT NEEDS TO BRAKE?? THIS IS NOT SAFE TO OWNERS. THIS IS NOT SAFE TO OTHER MOTORISTS.THIS IS DEATHS WAITING TO HAPPEN, THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND MADE A RECALL. ONLY IN THE UNITED STATES CAN A MANUFACTURER GET AWAY WITH SUCH THINGS AS THIS. I'M HEADING INTO WINTER IN NEW ENGLAND, LAST THING I NEED IS FOR MY CAR TO FAIL IN A STORM, MEDICAL SITUATION ETC.. AND BE STRANDED BECAUSE THE AUTOMAKER ISN'T TAKEN FULL RESPONSIBILITY. THE CAR IS HAVING ISSUES AT IDLING AND SHUTS OFF / STALLS WHILE AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGNALS. DEALER REPLACED THE TORQUE CONVERTER BUT THE ISSUE STILL PERSISTS.
2011 SUBARU OUTBACK ONLY DRIVEN BY MYSELF, 93000 MILES MOSTLY HIGHWAY. STALLING REGULARLY WHEN COMING TO A SUDDEN OR FAST STOP. SLOW STOPPING AND PUMPING BRAKES WOULD AVOID THE STALL. RPMS WOULD SUDDENLY DROP AFTER GOING BELOW 1200. OUT OF WARRANTY. VALVE BODY AND TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN NOTED FOR MANY SUBARU CVT BETWEEN 2010 AND 2012 AND SHOULD HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER AND REPAIRS SHOULD BE MADE AT NO COST TO OWNER DUE TO OBVIOUS FAULT IN DESIGN.
CAR STALLS WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THIS STALLING IS GETTING MORE FREQUENT AT BOTH INTERSECTIONS AND AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS(BOTH CITY STREETS AND DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS WITH TRAFFIC LIGHTS) AND IS MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN COMING TO A HARD STOP. THIS IS BECOMING A DANGEROUS SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR CORRECTION. THIS STARTED OCCURRING IN MY ARE IN SEPT 2017 AND HAS NOW TO THE POINT I CAN NOT DRIVE THE CAR SAFELY. I HAVE BROUGHT THE SUBARU OUTBACK TO THE DEALER FOR A REPAIR UNDER THE SUBARU TSB 06-107-17 AND THEY ARE TELLING ME IT IS NOT ELIGIBLE UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THE REPAIR IN APPROX $2000.00

WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK 11-09-2017 AT AROUND 6:30 PM BOTH MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. I COULD NOT SEE THE ROAD AND I DROVE OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SLAMMED MY BRAKES ON. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND GOT OUT AND LOOKED AT MY HEADLIGHTS. THEY WERE BOTH OUT. THE HIGH BEAMS DID WORK. I HAD TO KEEP HIGH BEAMS ON SO I COULD MAKE IT HOME.

CAR IS STARTING TO STALL WHEN STOPPING FROM A HIGHER SPEED 45-50MPH AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS ON HIGHWAYS.
FOR THE LAST FEW WEEKS, CAR HAS DROPPED RPMS AT HARD STOPS. IT WOULD JERK LIKE COMING TO A FULL STOP IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR WITHOUT PRESSING THE CLUTCH. MY CAR IS AN AUTOMATIC WITH A CVT. THEN IT STARTED JUST STALLING OUT AT HARD STOPS OR TURNS WITH SIGNIFICANT DECREASED SPEED. THAT IS NOT SAFE. IT HAS BEEN VERY SCARY. MY MECHANIC CONNECTED MY CAR TO THE COMPUTER AND NO CODES MATCHED THE PROBLEM. THEN I STARTED DOING RESEARCH ONLINE AND SAW SO MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THAT TOOK ME TO A SERVICE BULLETIN PUT OUT BY SUBARU IN JULY 2017 FOR THIS VERY CVT PROBLEM CAUSED BY A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER. I HAVE THAT SERVICE BULLETIN BUT NOWHERE ON THERE DOES IT DESCRIBE THESE SYMPTOMS SO I NEVER WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS THE SAME ISSUE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE SERVICE BULLETIN. HOURS LATER I WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ME $1500 IN A PARTS AND $1060 IN LABOR (PLUS TAX). SUBARU IS NOT COVERING THIS CLEARLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I CAN'T DRIVE MY CAR WITHOUT FEAR. I MAINTAIN MY CAR AND AM VERY CAREFUL WITH IT. SUBARU PROFESSES TO BE ABOUT SAFETY AND TAKING CARE OF CUSTOMERS. THIS IS NOT RIGHT.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT MY CAR'S SYMPTOMS TO DEALERS AND SERVICE MECHANICS SINCE AUGUST 2014 (90,000+MILES) WITH NO DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIR. SYMPTOMS COULD NOT BE REPLICATED OR WHEN LOW RPMS WERE NOTED, IT WAS JUST THAT - NOTED. MY VEHICLE SHUDDERS, HEADLIGHTS DIM, AND DIPS TO LOW RPMS WHEN APPROACHING A STOP OR WHEN IN REVERSE AT LOW SPEEDS. IT HAS STALLED 4 TIMES SINCE I HAVE BROUGHT IT UP. THE FIRST FEW WERE IN A PARKING LOT AND AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. THIS MORNING WAS SCARY (143,000MILES)- I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND COULD NOT PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, REMOVE MY KEY OR RESTART MY CAR. I HAD TO RUN OUT OF MY CAR AND LEAVE IT THERE MOMENTARILY TO GET HELP. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, SUBARU HAS AN EXTENDED CVT WARRANTY TSB 16-107-17. IN IT, TSB 16-90-13R - DESIGN CHANGE TO LOCK-UP TYPE TORQUE CONVERTER IS REFERRED TO. I BELIEVE THIS IS MY PROBLEM. BUT I'M GETTING THE RUNAROUND FROM DIFFERENT SUBARU DEALERS AND SUBARU OF AMERICAS HOTLINE ON HOW THIS IS ADDRESSED SINCE I HAVE OVER 100K MILES AND WHETHER OR NOT THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS COVERED IN THIS WARRANTY. SINCE IT IS "NOT A RECALL, AS IT DOES NOT IMPACT THE SAFETY OF YOUR VEHICLE", I CANNOT GET IT LOOKED AT RIGHT AWAY NOR AM I OFFERED A RENTAL WHILE WAITING TO DO SO. PLEASE - STALLING IN TRAFFIC RANDOMLY IS A SAFETY HAZARD! I HAVE TO WAIT A WEEK BEFORE I CAN GET AN APPOINTMENT TO JUST CHECK THIS AND HOPE THIS TIME THEY DISCOVER THE SAME THINGS I HAVE - MEANWHILE I'M NOT OFFERED A RENTAL AND HAVE TO DRIVE THIS ONE THAT MAY STALL AT ANY TIME. CAR ABRUPTLY SHIFTS, LOSES POWER, AND INTERMITTENTLY STALLS IN LOWER GEARS DURING OPERATION. THIS MAY OCCUR DURING BRAKING, IDLING, OR ACCELERATION. THREE TIMES THE ENGINE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS. ALL CHECK ENGINE DASH LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE AND THE CAR WOULD HAVE TO BE PLACED BACK INTO PARK AND THE IGNITION TURNED OFF AND BACK ON TO RESTART. IT SOMETIMES TOOK SEVERAL TRIES. THIS CREATES A SIGNIFICANT HAZARD FOR BEING STRUCK IN INTERSECTIONS, OR FROM BEHIND IN MOVING TRAFFIC. CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR 2 WEEKS. SUBARU MECHANICS CONFIRMED A DEFECTIVE TORQUE CONVERTER AND RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT. MY MILEAGE WAS 114K AT ONSET. CAR IS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK 2.5 I. I HAD CAR MAINTAINED PROPERLY AT ALL RECOMMENDED SERVICE INTERVALS. THESE PROBLEMS STARTED AFTER 100K AND OCCURRED WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. ESSENTIALLY, THE AUTOMOBILE WENT FROM FULLY FUNCTIONAL TO THIS SITUATION (SUDDEN STALLING DURING OPERATION) WITHIN A WEEK. THIS SITUATION IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND THE TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. THERE IS A SAFETY BULLETIN RELATED TO THIS ISSUE (TSB NO. 16-101-16) AND A WARRANTY EXTENSION IS NOT ENOUGH. CARS BEYOND 100K MILES MAY NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR COVERAGE OF THE REPAIRS, WHICH MAY INCUR COSTS OF SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS. MANUFACTURERS MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT.
