TAKATA RECALL
WHEN PUT INTO GEAR, AND YOU TURN ON HEADLIGHTS LOW BEAM, THEY ARE NOT WORKING. CAR CAN BE STATIONARY OR MOVING. THE HIGH BEAMS WORK. FOG LIGHT WORK. LOW BEAMS ARE THE PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING, IN MOTION THE SENSOR LIGHT WILL BLINK ON & OFF, THEN HEADLIGHTS GO OUT. HAVE REPLACED THE HEADLIGHTS MULTIPLE TIMES WITHIN PAST YEAR. WAS ALREADY IN FOR SERVICE, BUT NOW PROBLEM IS BACK
THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE STARTED TO DEFLATE, WHETHER IN MOTION OR WHEN PARKED. THIS WAS A SLOW LEAK. THE TIRES HAD 6/32 TREAD REMAINING. THE PROBLEMATIC TIRE WOULD HOLD PRESSURE FOR ABOUT 40 MILES OF HIGHWAY DRIVING, OR SEVERAL HOURS WHEN PARKED, BEFORE THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR LIGHT WOULD COME ONE. THE TIRE WAS REPEATEDLY FILLED WITH AIR DURING THE COURSE OF THE ROAD TRIP. UPON ARRIVAL AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE FOR IT TO BE CHECKED AND REPAIRED AT A LOCAL SHOP. TURNS OUT THE BELT WAS PARTIALLY SEPARATED. GIVEN THE CAR IS ALL WHEEL DRIVE I NEEDED TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE MOON ROOF GLASS INDEPENDENTLY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER (IRVINE SUBARU, LOCATED ON 23663 ROCKFIELD BLVD, LAKE FOREST, CA 92630) WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V467000 (VISIBILITY). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
2011 SUBARU OUTBACK 2.51 PREMIUM ENGINE STUTTERS AND QUITS UPON HARD/QUICK BRAKING. HARD/QUICK BRAKING FOLLOWED BY VEHICLE ENGINE QUITTING TYPICALLY OCCURS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, RESULTING IN NEAR ACCIDENTS. AFTER RESEARCH: CLEANED THE MASS AIR INTAKE SENSOR AND THROTTLE SENSOR. NO IMPROVEMENT. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, APPEARS TO BE A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER.
ON JUNE 9TH, 2017: WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE IN CHURCH PARKING LOT AT 11 AM IN THE MORNING. IT WAS A CLEAR DAY. AS I EASED INTO THE SPACE, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, AND INSTEAD OF COASTING INTO THE PARKING SPACE, THE CAR SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD (MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR AT ALL). THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO!! CAR LUNGED FORWARD, JUMPED THE PARKING CURB AND HIT THE TREE THAT WAS IN THE MEDIAN. THERE WAS MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END ($7500). AFTER REPAIR, THE DEALER AND SUBARU CORPORATE TESTED OUT THE CAR AND COULD FIND NO ERRORS IN THE CODE RESULTS BUT DID NOTE THAT THERE WERE DOUBLE FLOOR MATS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE (ONE CARPET AND ONE RUBBER). THEY THINK THIS MIGHT HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE PROBLEM AND THEY RECOMMEND THAT ONLY ONE FLOOR MAT BE IN PLACE. OF NOTE IS THE FACT THAT THE CAR CAME WITH THE TWO FLOOR MATS INSTALLED. WE DID NOT ADD AN EXTRA ONE.
TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS INTENSELY WHEN COMING TO A STOP AROUND 5 MPH. ALSO SHUDDERS WHEN STOPPED, RPMS DIP TO ABOUT 500. CAR STALLED TWICE IN THE LAST FEW DAYS.
TWO LOW BEAM HIGHLIGHTS BURNED OUT AT SAME TIME AFTER STARTING CAR AT NIGHT AROUND 10:00 PM. AFTER THAT, THE BATTERY WAS GETTING WORSE AND DEAD AT THE SERVICE CENTER JUST BEFORE REPLACING THE HIGHLIGHT BULBS. THE MANAGER SAID THAT THE BATTERY'S SITUATION WAS NOT RELATED WITH THE PROBLEM OF THE HIGH LIGHT, AND THERE WAS NO CLUES.
THE WINDSHIELD WIPER STARTED WORKING WHILE IN THE OFF POSITION, THE WIPER MAKES 1 OR 2 SWIPES AND THEN DOES IT AGAIN AFTER A FEW SECONDS. IT MAKES A "CLICKING" OR BUZZING SOUND IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN IT HAPPENS. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP ITS OPERATION WAS TO PULL THE 30 A FUSE. VERY FRUSTRATING. THERE IS NO APPARENT REASON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN, IT JUST STARTED DOING IT ON IT'S OWN.
THE TORQUE CONVERTER ON THE 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK IS DEFECTIVE WHEN IT REACHES HIGHER MILEAGE AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO STALL OUT WHEN STOPPING ABRUPTLY (HARD BRAKING). I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30-40MPH IN SUBURBAN TRAFFIC WHEN I NEEDED TO ABRUPTLY BRAKE. MY VEHICLE STALLED OUT TWICE IN TRAFFIC AFTER HARD BRAKING, BOTH TIMES WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. THIS IS DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC AS YOU MUST RESTART THE VEHICLE FROM THE STALL OUT AND COULD BE HIT BY OTHER VEHICLES WHILE DOING SO. FOR SAFETY, IT IS NECESSARY TO REPLACE THIS DEFECTIVE PART, WHICH IS RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE FOR THE OWNER. OWNERS ARE LOOSING OUT; SUBARU SHOULD RECALL THIS PART AND REPLACE FREE OF CHARGE.
CAR STALLS AT WHEN COMING TO A HARD STOP (SOMETIMES THIS HAPPENS IN TRAFFIC WHICH IS REALLY DANGEROUS). AFTER THE STALL, THE CAR STARTS UP FINE. BUT THEN STALLS WHEN COMING TO A HARD STOP.
MY 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK IS EXPERIENCING SHUDDERING & STALLS WHEN COMING TO A STOP RESULTING IN THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF. IT OCCURS RANDOMLY, AND NEARLY GOT IN ACCIDENTS WITH DRIVERS BEHIND ME HAVING TO REACT TO THE SUDDEN FULL STOPS. THE VEHICLE IS AT A SUBARU DEALERSHIP NOW FOR REPAIRS TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER AS WELL AS THE VALVE BOX AND VALUE BOX WIRING HARNESS. THERE IS A SUBARU TECHNICAL BULLETIN #16-90-13R REGARDING A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER: "2010-12 MY LEGACY AND OUTBACK MODELS EQUIPPED WITH CVT TRANSMISSION", SUBJECT "DESIGN CHANGE TO LOCK-UP TYPE TORQUE CONVERTER". GIVEN THE DANGER OF RANDOM STALLING EVENTS, THE NUMBER OF REPORTED INCIDENTS, AND THE ~$4400 REPAIR EXPENSE BEING PUT ON ME FOR A KNOWN DESIGN PROBLEM, I WOULD THINK THIS SHOULD BE STRONGLY CONSIDERED FOR A RECALL.

GIVEN THE DANGER OF RANDOM STALLING EVENTS, THE NUMBER OF REPORTED INCIDENTS, AND THE ~$1500 REPAIR EXPENSE BEING PUT ON THE CONSUMER FOR A KNOWN DESIGN PROBLEM, THIS SHOULD BE STRONGLY CONSIDERED FOR A RECALL.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. OXYGEN SENSOR PROBLEM.
"TAKATA RECALL", NO NOTIFICATION FOR REPLACEMENT APPOINTMENT, CANNOT USE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT.
TORQUE CONVERTER IS MALFUNCTIONING. THIS IS A KNOWN SUBARU DEFECT, I BELIEVE. THE CAR DIES IF I MAKE A SUDDEN STOP- DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS HAPPENS ON HIGHWAYS AND SURFACE STREETS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE REVERSING THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, IT WOULD NOT POWER DOWN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT OF THE BRAKE FAILURE, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE STRUCK A TREE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, IT WAS FULLY FUNCTIONAL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ONCE PREVIOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
I HAVE REPLACED HEADLIGHTS IN THIS VEHICLE FIVE TIMES AND THEY KEEP BURNING OUT. THE DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGH IS OUT AGAIN AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
WHEN COMING TO A STOP, THE CAR STALLS SHUDDERS AND QUITS, THIS HAPPENS MORE OFTEN WHEN BRAKING HARDER THAN STANDARD. THE CAR CAN BE WARM OR COLD IT CAN BE REPLICATED ON COMMAND MOST OFTEN GOING UPHILL BUT WILL ALSO DO SAME ON LEVEL GROUND. DEALER REFERENCED POSSIBLY BAFFLE IN GAS TANK HAS DETACHED ALLOWING GAS TO SLOSH AWAY FROM PICK UP AREA IN TANK. SUGGESTED 200.00 TO DROP TANK INVESTIGATE AND 4-500 TO REPLACE TANK. ALSO REPORTED IN COMPLAINT 10966670 UNDER DRIVE TRAIN. TRIED LIQUID HEET FUEL ADDITIVE TO REMOVE POSSIBILITY OF WATER POOLING IN TANK. THE STALL HAPPENS MOST ON CITY STREET WITH DAUGHTER OR WIFE DRIVING.
OUR 2011 OUTBACK WOULD STUTTER AT A STOP, SUBARU SAID THIS WAS THE WAY IT WAS DESIGNED TO CONSERVE FUEL. THE VEHICLE NOW STALLS, ALWAYS STARTS BACK UP BUT THIS IS NOT COMFORTING ESPECIALLY WHEN MY WIFE IS DRIVING BY HERSELF. THIS BEGAN SOMETIME IN JANUARY 2017 SUBARU TECH SAID NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $11,000. THAT'S CRAZY. WAS REFERRED BY A FRIEND TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP IN BAYTOWN, SAYS IT IS THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND CAN EITHER BE REBUILT OR REPLACED. I TOOK IT IN YESTERDAY AND HOPEFULLY WILL PICK IT UP FRIDAY. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE SUBARU DEALER AND CALLED THE HEADQUARTERS. I AM NOT PLEASED WITH MY FIRST SUBARU. SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH A TOYOTA WHICH I HAVE HAD GREAT SUCCESS WITH. OUR FAMILY OF 4 HAD 4 CAMRY'S AND GOT A COMBINED TOTAL OF OVER 1,200,000 MILES ON THEM.
LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS BURN OUT VERY QUICKLY - WITHIN 3-6 MONTHS, REPEATEDLY. ALSO, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ONLY COME ON AFTER DARK. AS DAY-TIME RUNNING LIGHTS THEY FAIL TO COME ON. THIS OCCURS AT ALL TIMES REGARDLESS OF SPEED, TEMP, OR DRIVING CONDITIONS.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. CAR STALLS AT HARD STOPS AND SHUDDERS ON HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS 45-55
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED AND STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,500.
THE TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKS UP AT LOW RPMS AND CAUSES THE CAR TO STALL. THIS IS PROBLEMATIC AT INTERSECTIONS AND IN TRAFFIC (WHICH WE EXPERIENCE A LOT OF IN AUSTIN, TEXAS). IT IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT STARTED RECENTLY.
I RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM SUBARU TODAY THAT PARTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO REMEDY THIS AIR BAG DEFECT. WHEN I CALLED MY DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT SUBARU WILL ONLY SHIP A FEW PARTS AT A TIME. THERE ARE 18 ON THEIR WAITING LIST FOR THESE PARTS. SOME HAVE BEEN WAITING 6 MONTHS. WHY DOESN'T SUBARU SHIP THE PARTS NEEDED TO MAKE NEEDED REPAIRS? THE NOTICE FROM SUBARU SAYS NOT TO ALLOW PASSENGERS TO RIDE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL THIS REPAIR IS PERFORMED.
2011 SUBARU OUTBACK WORN TORQUE CONVERTER THRUST WASHER TECH SERVICES BULLETIN #16-90-13R. ENGINE SHUDDERS AND STALLS ON QUICK STOPS LIKE AT STOP LIGHT OR AT STOP AT TOP OF AN INCLINE LIKE EXITING A PARKING GARAGE. ISSUE WAS DIAGNOSED AT MY AUTHORIZED SUBARU SERVICES DEPT YESTERDAY THAT IT WAS TORQUE CONVERTER AND I'D BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR COST. SERVICE TECH AND SERVICE DEPT MANAGER CONFIRMED THAT THEY DID AGREE WITH MY INPUT WHEN PRESENTING THE CAR. I WAS THE ONE WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM -- WHICH THEY CONFIRMED. BULLETIN STATES THE AVAILABILITY OF A COUNTERMEASURE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY THRUST WASHER CHANGED FROM SOLID BRUSHING TYPE TO NEEDLE BEARING TYPE. I HAVE READ EXTENSIVE COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER OWNERS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE THAT IF NOT RESOLVED CAN RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH. I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT LAST WEEK. SUBARU ACKNOWLEDGES THE DEFECT...BUT HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. THIS NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED!!! IN SOME CASES THIS DEFECT HAS CAUSED A FIRE IN THE ENGINE. CONSUMERS HAVE DOCUMENTED THIS SERIOUS DEFECT ON NHTSA, CAR TALK, CARS.COM. SUBARU NEEDS TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES!!!!
MULTIPLE TRANSMISSION SOLENOIDS HAVE FAILED AND THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ON THIS VEHICLE WITH A CVT TRANSMISSION WITH 80,000 MILES.
I HAVE EXPERIENCED A DRIVER SAFETY CONCERN THAT CAN EASILY CAUSE A COLLISION TO OCCUR. WHEN COMING TO A STOP THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOES NOT GO TO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE HALTS. I HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS IT MAY CAUSE A REAR END COLLISION AND HAS ALMOST DONE SO ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THIS IS RELATED TO BULLETIN NUMBER 16-90-13R THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN OPENED WITH SUBARU ON 01/06/2014. THE REMEDY IS TO REPLACE TORQUE CONVERTER THRUST WASHER FROM A SOLID BUSHING-TYPE TO A NEEDLE BEARING TYPE. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE AND NOT BE PASSED ONTO TO THE CUSTOMER. THIS CAN EASILY ESCALATE TO A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT IF A SERIOUS COLLISION WERE TO HAPPEN. HERE IS THE COMPLAINT PRESENTED TO SUBARU BULLETIN NUMBER 16-90-13R; DATE: 01/06/14 REVISED: 05/07/14 APPLICABILITY: 2010-12 MY LEGACY AND OUTBACK MODELS EQUIPPED WITH CVT TRANSMISSION SUBJECT: DESIGN CHANGE TO LOCK-UP TYPE TORQUE CONVERTER INTRODUCTION THIS BULLETIN ANNOUNCES THE AVAILABILITY OF A COUNTERMEASURE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY TO ADDRESS A CUSTOMER CONCERN OF VERY LOW ENGINE RPM WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THE CONDITION IS SIMILAR TO COMING TO A STOP IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED VEHICLE WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH PEDAL. THRUST WASHER WEAR INSIDE THE TORQUE CONVERTER CAN CAUSE RESTRICTION OF THE OIL PASSAGE USED TO BLEED OFF LOCK-UP CLUTCH APPLICATION PRESSURE. THE RESULT IS EITHER A DELAYED (MOMENTARY LOW ENGINE RPM) OR NO LOCK-UP PRESSURE RELEASE. THE THRUST WASHER HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM A SOLID BUSHING-TYPE TO A NEEDLE BEARING TYPE.

I HAD NOTIFIED YOU ABOUT MY SUBARU OUTBACK AND THE STALLING PROBLEM WE WERE HAVING WHENEVER WE WOULD COME TO A QUICK STOP. SUBARU MECHANIC SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $11,000. WE HAD A LOCAL TRANSMISSION SHOP LOOK AT IT AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER. THEY REPLACED THE CONVERTER AT A MUCH CHEAPER COST AND THE VEHICLE SO FAR HAS PERFORMED WELL. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER OWNERS THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE STUTTER PROBLEM WHENEVER THEY COME TO A STOP BUT THE VEHICLE HAS NOT STALLED. I AM CONFIDENT THAT IT WILL IN TIME JUST AS OURS DID. SHOULD SUBARU ISSUE A RECALL ON THESE CONVERTERS?

WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, VEHICLE WILL RUN ROUGH AND/OR STALL JUST BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON SUBARU WEB FORUMS. SUBARU NEEDS TO CREAT A RECALL. PER SUBARU DEALER DIAGNOSTIC IT IS A BAD TORQUE CONVERTER, PER BULLETIN # 16-90-13R.
MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE CAR STALLS WHEN YOU STOP QUICK. IT ACTS LIKE YOU ARE STOPING AND NOT STEPPING ON THE CLUTCH. BUT THE TRANSMISSION IS A CVT. IT STARTED IN DECEMBER 2016. 102K MILES. DEALER IS SAYING I NEED A NEW TORQUE CONVERTER.

DEALER PRESCRIBED A NEW TRANSMISSION. SUBSEQUENTLY I RESEARCHED MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF SIMILAR SITUATION/SYMPTOMS IN SAME MODEL YEAR, BUT MY VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE NHTSA SAFETY RECALL TSB NO. 16-101-16. THIS SITUATION IS TOO COINCIDENTAL; THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED.
WHILE ACCELERATING UPHILL ON A ROAD, MANY OF MY DASH LIGHTS FLASHED, INCLUDING "CHECK ENGINE", "AT OIL TEMP", "BRAKE". MY CAR LOST ITS PEP. MY CRUISE STOPPED WORKING. I COULDN'T USE MY DOWN/UPSHIFTING PADDLES AND I LIVE IN AN ICY/SNOWY CLIMATE WHICH RESULTED IN A SIGNIFICANT DECLINE IN MY CAR WHICH IS NORMALLY HIGHLY-RANKED IN SAFETY SURVEYS. I HAD TO REPLACE MY TORQUE CONVERTER AND MY VALVE BODY FOR >$3,0000. ADDITIONALLY, MY GAS MILEAGE DECREASED BY AT LEAST 6 MPG.

I HAVE 103.5K MILES AND MY MASTER CYLINDER IS GOING OUT. I WAS TOLD THE 2012 OUTBACK HAD ISSUES ALSO. WHILE DRIVING THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR.

CAR IS STALLING WHEN IN MOTION, AND COMING TO A STOP WITHOUT STEADY BRAKE PRESSURE. IT SHUTTERS THEN STALLS. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 6 TIMES SINCE FALL 2016. "NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10080367- AVAILABILITY OF COUNTERMEASURE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY" -DOESN'T SOLVE PROBLEM FOR CONSUMERS. LACK OF RECALL/ACTION ON A 2011 MODEL IS ALARMING! DOES THIS MALFUNCTION NEED TO HARM/KILL VICTIMS BEFORE ACTION IS TAKEN?
THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS BURN OUT EVER 8-10 MONTHS. NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF BULB USED, THE LOW BEAM BULB OVERHEATS AND BURNS ITSELF OUT FASTER THAN ANY OTHER CAR.
THE HEADLIGHT BULBS ON MY 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK "BURNOUT" EVERY 4-5 MONTHS. I ADDRESSED THE ISSUE WITH THE ORIGINAL DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, TO NO SATISFACTORY END. THEY BASICALLY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO OTHER THAN REPLACE THE BULBS. SINCE THE FIRST INSTANCE I HAVE PERSONALLY REPLACED THE BULBS A MINIMUM OF A DOZEN TIMES. THE LATEST BURNOUT OCCURRED THIS WEEKEND WHILE DRIVING IN A SNOWSTORM.THE ORIGINAL DEALER IS NO LONGER IN BUSINESS SO I TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THERE IS NOW A "WARRANTY EXTENSION" IN PLACE TO REPLACE THE BULBS FOR A TEN YEAR PERIOD FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. WHEN I QUESTIONED WHAT THEY WERE GOING TO DO TO CORRECT THE OBVIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, THE SERVICE WRITER STATED "THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE OTHER THAN REPLACING THE BULB". A SUBSEQUENT CALL TO SUBARU OF AMERICA PRODUCED NOTHING MORE THAN A "SIR, WE HAVE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR UP TO TEN YEARS TO REPLACE THE BULBS" WHEN I REPEATEDLY QUESTIONED WHAT WAS BEING DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT SUBARU IS DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO RECTIFY. THEY ARE BAND AIDING THE PROBLEM WITH THE "EXTENDED WARRANTY". THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WHEN HEADLIGHT BULBS JUST "BURNOUT", ALMOST ALWAYS AT THE WORST POSSIBLE TIME. IS IT GOING TO TAKE MY VEHICLE BURNING TO THE GROUND DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL SHORT, VOLTAGE SURGE OR WHATEVER ELSE IS CAUSING THE BURNOUTS, OR WORSE YET A SUBARU OWNER BEING INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, BEFORE SUBARU INITIATES A RECALL TO FIX THE ISSUE THEY ARE WELL AWARE OF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE STEERING LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SMOKE APPEARED UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE CONTACT QUICKLY EXITED THE VEHICLE. WITHIN A COUPLE OF MINUTES, THE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
THE VEHICLE WILL STALL OUT WHEN THE BRAKES ARE PRESSED ABRUPTLY AND THE SPEED SUDDENLY DECREASES. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE. ESPECIALLY FOR MY PREGNANT WIFE TO BE DRIVING. WE BOUGHT A SUBARU BECAUSE WE THOUGHT THEY WERE BUILT RIGHT AND SAFE. WE WERE WRONG. *TR
VEHICLE STALLED WHEN APPROACHING A STOP. THIS HAPPENED TWICE. THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC AND SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN TO NEUTRAL/PARK AND RESTART IT AT AN INTERSECTION WHERE THERE'S A FIREHOUSE. I'VE BEEN TOLD THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THERE IS ALREADY A TSB ON THE BAD DESIGN OF THIS PART AND THAT IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AT THIS POINT, I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AS IT'S HAPPENING MORE OFTEN THAN NOT TO THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS.
REPEATED PREMATURE FAILURE OF HEADLIGHTS, MARKER LIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS. I'M AWARE OF THE RECALL REPLACING THE HEADLIGHTS BUT THAT IS NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM.
