ENGINE RANDOMLY STALLS WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. WE ARE ALWAYS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN WHEN THIS HAPPENS IN HIGH TRAFFIC AREAS/TIMES. OUR SUBARU SERVICE ADVISOR HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT IT IS DUE TO A POOR DESIGN ISSUE "TSB 16-90-13R" WHICH REQUIRES THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER.
I OWN A 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK WITH 93,000 MILES. THE CAR STALLED OUT AT RED LIGHTS IN THE CITY. ALSO, IT STALLED WHEN I WAS ON A HILL AND CAME TO A STOP. I WAS FORTUNATE TO RESTART ENGINE AND GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID I NEEDED A TORQUE CONVERTER COSTING $1,200. AFTER READING THE MANY COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER OWNERS IT IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. WHY HASN'T SUBARU RECALLED THE TORQUE CONVERTERS?
TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY. CAR IS STALLING WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT A STOP SIGN, OR AT STOP LIGHT OR EVEN WHEN GOING TO A STOP THROUGH A WORK ZONE. IT SHUTTERS THEN STALLS. FEELS LIKE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION WHEN A CLUTCH IS NOT FULLY PRESSED. IT HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES SINCE THE END OF NOVEMBER 2016
TAKATA RECALL I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE AIRBAG RECALL. OUR SUBARU OUTBACK IS OUR ONLY VEHICLE, AND IT IS OUR FAMILY VEHICLE. MY PREGNANT WIFE IS DUE WITH OUR SECOND CHILD AND HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT. HOWEVER, THAT CHILD COULD COME ANY TIME. SHE IS A HIGH RISK PREGNANCY WITH A HISTORY OF PREMATURE BIRTH. AT 33 WEEKS, THIS IS THE FARTHEST SHE'S EVER COME ALONG IN A PREGNANCY. IF THIS BABY COMES, THEN IT MEANS SOMEONE IN OUR FAMILY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SIT IN OUR CAR IF WE ALL GO OUT TOGETHER. THE AIRBAG RECALL FIX IS URGENT FOR US. WE CAN'T REALLY WAIT MUCH LONGER, UNLESS SUBARU WANTS TO RENT A LARGER VEHICLE FOR US UNTIL THE REPAIR CAN BE MADE. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE SO WE CAN HAVE OUR SUBARU BACK TO IT'S ORIGINAL INTENT AS A FAMILY VEHICLE ASAP?

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. VEHICLE STALLS AFTER SUDDEN STOP REQUIRING IT TO BE RESTARTED . I WAS TOLD BY SUBARU SALES THERE IS A TSB # 16-90-13 R (1/6/14 ISSUED). THIS RELATES TO THE TRANSMISSION ( CVT) LOOKING UP AFTER A SUDDEN STOP DUE TO A THRUST WASHER INSIDE THE TORQUE CONVERTER. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY WITH A FULL RECALL.
MY CAR STALLS OCCASIONALLY WHEN I COME TO A FULL STOP. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN EVIDENT SINCE ABOUT 80,000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP REVILED IT WAS DUE TO A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER. I FOUND THE INFORMATION BELOW ON LINE AND SEEMS TO RESONATE. VEHICLE STALLS AFTER SUDDEN STOP REQUIRING IT TO BE RESTARTED. I WAS TOLD BY SUBARU SALES THERE IS A TSB # 16-90-13 R (1/6/14 ISSUED). SUBARU HAS A KNOWN TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 16-90-13R THAT IDENTIFIES AN ISSUE THE THE TORQUE CONVERTER THAT IS CAUSING SUBARU VEHICLES TO STALL WHEN BREAKING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT MUST BE FIXED IN ORDER TO AVOID ACCIDENTS WHILE DRIVING. DESPITE BEING A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE, SUBARU HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. RATHER SUBARU OWNERS ARE LEFT TO PAY THE $1500 COST OF CORRECTING THE TORQUE CONVERTER ISSUE. MY 2011 SUBARU OUTBACK IS STALLING OUT WHEN BRAKING AT INTERSECTIONS AND PAR.
LOW BEAMS JUST BURNT OUT USING AUTO SETTING, THIS HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT!!
TAKATA RECALL. A SUBARU DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE AIRBAG (ACCORDING TO THEIR SERVICE RECORDS). HOWEVER, SUBARU CORPORATE CONTINUED TO SEND ME RECALL NOTICES. NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED. 1) THEY REPLACED MY AIRBAG AND FORGOT TO TELL SUBARU. OK OUTCOME 2) THEY REPLACED MY AIRBAG, AND UPDATED A DIFFERENT CAR WITH SUBARU (WHICH WON'T GET RECALL NOTICES ANYMORE). PASSENGERS IN THAT CAR AT AT LETHAL RISK NOW. 3) THEY DIDN'T REPLACE MY AIRBAG, AND ACTUALLY PUT THAT AIRBAG INTO A DIFFERENT CAR. MY PASSENGERS ARE AT LETHAL RISK NOW. I ASKED THE SERVICE PERSON TO INVESTIGATE, BUT HE JUST SAID "IT'S DONE, DON'T WORRY" AIRBAG REPLACEMENT WAS NOVEMBER 2016. THE LAST SERVICE WAS THIS WEEK.
ONGOING FAILURE OF BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE HEADLAMPS. SAME COMPLAINT THAT OTHERS HAVE DOCUMENTED THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE AND THE HEADLAMPS ARE DIFFICULT TO REPLACE. SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND CAN ALSO LEAD TO TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS. SUBARU NEEDS TO PROVIDE A FIX, NOT JUST A ONE-TIME REIMBURSEMENT OF REPLACEMENT HEADLAMPS.
ENGINE STALLS WHEN THE CAR COMES TO A QUICK STOP. SIMILAR TO WHEN YOU FAIL TO PUSH IN THE CLUTCH ON A STANDARD TRANSMISSION, BUT IN THIS CASE, THIS IS CAR HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.
TAKATA RECALL - HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR OVER 3 MONTHS FOR THE LOCAL DEALER TO ACQUIRE PARTS AND FIX THE PROBLEM. AS OF THIS MORNING, THEY STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THEY WILL HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE TO FIX OUR VEHICLE.
MY 2011 OUTBACK HAS RECENTLY STARTED STALLING OUT AT STOP SIGNS. IT WILL STALL 5 TIMES IN 2 MILES. IT STARTS RIGHT BACK UP BUT WILL STALL AGAIN AT THE NEXT LIGHT OR STOP SIGN (LOCAL STREETS). APPARENTLY SUBARU HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN 16-90-13R THAT INDICATES THIS PROBLEM IS A POOR DESIGN OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER. I'VE READ MANY SIMILAR ACCOUNTS ON LINE. SUBARU SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. IT'S AN EXPENSE REPAIR AND A SAFETY HAZARD.
MULTIPLE HEADLIGHT FAILURE SINCE CAR WAS NEW. ATLEAST ONE HEADLIGHT GOES OUT EVERY THREE MONTHS.
SAID I COULD NOT HAVE ANYONE RIDE IN PASSENGER SEAT TILL FIXED. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND HAD BEEN OVER A MONTH WITH NO WORD ABOUT WHEN PARTS ARE READY. WE HAVE TO USE PASSENGER SEAT. SUBARU NEEDS TO PROVIDE A RENTAL OR OTHER TRANSPORTATION. ASAP.
RIGHT BACK BRAKE LIGHT BLEW OUT. CAR HAS BEEN HAVING ALOT OF VARIOUS LIGHTING PROBLEMS SINCE PURCHASED IN 2011. NOT SURE WHEN IT BLEW OUT, SOMEONE IN A PARKING LOT TOLD ME IT WAS OUT.
TAKATA RECALL: INFORMED THAT NO ONE CAN SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL PARTS ARE REPLACED AND THAT THERE ARE NO PARTS AVAILABLE. OUR NORMAL USAGE OF THE VEHICLE REQUIRES LOADING IN THE BACK AND A DRIVER AND PASSENGER IN THE FRONT. LOCAL SUBARU DEALERS HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND US A LOANER VEHICLE FOR USE UNTIL OUR VEHICLE IS FIXED. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
TAKATA RECALL. SUBARU AND TAKATA AIRBAG PROBLEMS. MY OUTBACK HAS A RECALL AND I CALLED SUBARU CORPORATE ABOUT A WEEK AGO. I TALKED TO SOMEONE BECAUSE MY WIFE IS PREGNANT AND DRIVES OUR 4 YEAR OLD GIRL IN THE CAR. MY WIFE DOESN'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE CAR (THE DETAILS OF THE RECALL ARE OUTLINED BELOW). IT MAY BE UP TO 3 MONTHS UNTIL THEY GET THE PART TO FIX IT. I WAS TOLD BY SUBARU CORPORATE TO GO TO THE LOCAL SUBARU DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD GET US A CAR FROM THEIR FLEET OR A RENTAL FROM ENTERPRISE. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP I WAS PUT ON A WAITING LIST. I CALLED BACK TO CORPORATE - THEY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEN I WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T USE ENTERPRISE AND ONLY HAS THEIR OWN FLEET. I ASKED IF WE COULD GET A RENTAL CAR AND GET REIMBURSED AND THEY SAID NO. NO RESOLUTION YET.
MULTIPLE HEAD LIGHT FAILURES ROTATES BETWEEN DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE AT LEAST ONE LIGHT GOES OUT VERY THREE MONTHS.
FREQUENT REPLACEMENT OF LOW BEAM BULBS. NOT EASY TO REPLACE AND SUBARU SERVICE BEST EQUIPPED TO DO PROCEDURE. LABOR COSTS AT VARIOUS DEALERS FOR THIS SERVICE WIDELY VARY AND CAN INCREASE WITHOUT REASON. SUBARU OF AMERICA RECENTLY SENT OUT LETTER SAYING WARRANTY ON BULBS HAS BEEN EXTENDED (NOT THAT THERE IS ISSUE WITH ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). SOA WILL REPLACE OR REFUND, HOWEVER, THIS DOES NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE OF CONTINUED (PERCEIVED) DEFICIENCY IN THE LIGHTING SYSTEM OVERALL AND REFUND REQUIREMENTS ARE VERY STRINGENT PER THE LETTER THEY SENT. I CONSIDER THIS ISSUE AS A SAFETY DEFECT. WE HAVE BOTH AN OUTBACK AND LEGACY THAT ARE BOTH AFFECTED BY THIS. HAVE OWNED LEGACY SINCE NEW AND REPLACED BOTH BULBS FOUR TIMES SINCE TAKING OWNERSHIP. HAVE TRIED OTHER BRAND BULBS TO NO BETTER RESULT (HENCE MY BELIEF IT IS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). PER ONE OF THE SERVICE ADVISORS I'VE SPOKEN TO IN THE PAST, THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED SUCH THAT WHEN ONE BULB BURNS OUT, MORE CURRENT FLOWS TO THE ONE BULB STILL WORKING AND WILL BURN IT OUT PREMATURELY (FURTHERING MY BELIEF THAT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE). THEY SAID THIS IN RECOMMENDING REPLACEMENT OF BOTH BULBS AT ONCE. WOULD LIKE TO SEE RECALL OR GREATER EFFORT ON SOA'S PART.

TWICE IN JULY THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE WOULD NOT RELEASE. THE CAR WAS STOPPED AT THE TIME. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES THE PARKING BRAKE WOULD RELEASE. AFTER THE SECOND OCCURRENCE THE DASH WARNING LIGHT FOR BRAKES FLASHED FOR ABOUT 50 MILES. MY LOCAL DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAILED ELECTRONIC PARKING CONTROL MODULE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEMATIC DESIGN IF THIS WERE TO ENGAGE WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION.
HAVE TO REPLACE A LOW BEAM LIGHT EVERY YEAR, JUST ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE. WHEN CHANGING BULB I WEAR GLOVES ,NOT TO TOUCH MY SKIN ON THE BULB. THERE REALLY SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS. EVERY TIME I GET A BULB THEY SAY SUBARU IS KNOWN FOR THIS. THIS HAPPENS EVERY YEAR SINCE I PURCHACE THE CAR.

BEGAN NOTICING VEHICLE SHUDDERING AND QUITTING OR ALMOST QUITTING WHEN COMING TO A STOP. HAS CONTINUED TO DO THIS FOR MONTHS NOW AND SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED AT TORQUE CONVERTER STICKING AFTER SEVERAL TESTS. REFERENCED TO SUBARU TSB NO. 16-101-16. DANGEROUS DESIGN FLAW AS IT CAN LEAVE YOU WITHOUT POWER AFTER COMING TO AN ABRUPT STOP SUCH AS BRAKING TO AVOID HITTING A STOPPED VEHICLE LEAVING YOU UNABLE TO MOVE AWAY FROM OTHER CARS WITHOUT RESTARTING VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION ASIDE FROM THIS ISSUE BUT IS OUT OF POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND THE COST TO REPAIR ARE PROHIBITIVE. REQUEST TO ISSUE RECALL FOR SAFETY ISSUES PRIMARILY AND TO NOT ULTIMATELY CAUSE DAMAGE TO TRANSMISSION IN THE LONG TERM.

I HAVE REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM LIGHTS MULTIPLE TIMES ALSO WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THE BRAKE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, AND MULTIPLE OTHER LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING WHILE DRIVING. THIS SCARED ME VERY MUCH. THE OWNERS MANUAL SEEMED TO IMPLY BRAKE FAILURE AND TO STOP IMMEDIATELY, WHICH I DID. CALLED AAA AND THEY TOWED MY CAR TO THOROUGHBRED TRANSMISSION IN LAUREL. THEY CHECKED THE CODES AND NOTHING MADE SENSE TO THEM. THE CALLED SUBARU AND DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM ANS SUBARU SAID IT WAS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM AND IT NEEDED TO UP UPGRADED. SINCE I HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH SUBARU I TOOK THE CAR TO THEM. I ALSO TOOK THE SUBARU WVU31 BULLETIN WITH ME. SUBARU SAID THEY DID NOT SEE THE CODES AND EVEN THOUGH I TOOK THE THOROUGHBRED DOCUMENTATION WITH ME THEY REFUSED TO UPGRADE THE SOFTWARE. IT IS CLEAR THAT SUBARU WAS NOT INTERESTED IN FIXING THE ISSUE, REFUSED TO ACCEPT THE WARRANTY AND CHARGED ME $70.00. SO NEXT TIME THIS DOES THE SAME THING AND I KEEP DRIVING I MAY IN FACT HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM BUT NOT KNOW IT. I NEED SUBARU TO INSTALL THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE.
WHILE DRIVING, IF YOU HAVE TO STOP QUICKLY AND STEP ON THE BRAKES HARD THE CAR ENGINE STALLS. THIS PUTS THE CAR IN JEOPARDY OF BEING HIT FROM BEHIND AND INJURY TO THE PASSENGERS. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS - BOTH LOW SPEED AND HIGHWAY SPEED.
I HAVE REPLACED MANY HEADLIGHT BULBS. NOW IT SEEMS, I AM REPLACING A HEADLIGHT BULB ABOUT EVERY 3 MONTHS!

PUTNAM SUBARU OF SAN FRANCISCO WILL NOT MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THIS RECALL- THEY SAY I AM #80 ON A WAITING LIST AND THEY ARE ON #11. I TRIED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT THE FIRST WEEK IN MAY AND THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THEY CALLED ME. I'VE BEEN WAITING A YEAR. I HAVE RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM SUBARU NOT TO USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL THE REPAIR IS COMPLETED (??!!) WHY AM I GETTING A LETTER SAYING "PARTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE" WHEN THEY ARE NOT?

ON 06/12/2016, I ATTEMPTED TO ACTUATE THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE, TO NO AVAIL ONCE AGAIN. PARKING ON A HILL IS RATHER RISKY WITH THIS VEHICLE AS THE PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT FUNCTION MOST OF THE TIME, SOMETHING I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED IN 50 YRS OF DRIVING USING A MANUAL PARKING BRAKE. SO I HAVE MADE MY OWN PARKING BRAKE (SEE ATTACHED).
I HAVE REPLACED BOTH LEFT & RIGHT SIDE HEADLIGHT LOW BEAM BULBS AT LEAST 6-7 TIMES SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. ONE OCCASION THEY WERE BOTH OUT AND MY WIFE DROVE HOME WITH ONLY THE PARKING LIGHTS ON (SHE SAID "IT SURE IS DARK ON ROUTE 9A"). I'M NOT SURE I SAVED ALL THE RECEIPTS, BUT I BET AUTOZONE HAS RECORDS WITHMY REWARDS ACCOUNT.
TAKATA RECALL. MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED US IN JULY 2016 ABOUT INFLATORS RECALL. THEY KEEP TELLING US THAT THEY ARE ON ORDER. SO THEY KEEP SELLING NEW CARS ALL THE TIME SO THEY ARE AVAILABLE TO THEM. WHY CAN'T WE GET OURS FIXED?
TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL WE WERE NOTIFIED OF A RECALL FOR OUR CAR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED US OF THE LACK OF AVAILABLE PARTS. WE WERE INSTRUCTED NOT TO USE THE PASSENGER SEAT, ESSENTIALLY RENDERING OUR VEHICLE UNUSABLE FOR 4 TO 5 PASSENGERS FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS, NOR COULD THE VEHICLE BE SOLD IF WE HAD DESIRED. TAKATA COMPANY IS UNABLE TO COMPLY WITH THE CORRECTION IN A REASONABLE PERIOD OF TIME. NO TEMPORARY SOLUTION HAS BEEN OFFERED. TAKATA IS RESPONSIBLE TO SUPPLY THE VICTIMS WITH COSTS FOR RENTALS. BUY BACK THE VEHICLE OR SETTLE ON A REASONABLE FIGURE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. THEY ARE A FOR PROFIT COMPANY AND ARE AT RISK FOR THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS BURN OUT APPROXIMATELY EVERY 3-6 MONTHS. ABOUT TO REPLACE A BULB FOR THE 6TH TIME.
ONCE AGAIN THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE IS NON-FUNCTIONAL. THE 'BRAKE' LIGHT IS FLASHING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE [XXX] PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT FUNCTION. MY WIFE SAYS "I NEED A DEPENDABLE VEHICLE". OBVIOUSLY THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT QUALIFY. THE AUSTRALIANS AND RECALLED THIS BRAKE FOR YEAR 2015 AND WILL PROBABLY DO SAME FOR OTHER YEARS. ATTACHED YOU WILL SEE A LIST OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FOR THIS PROBLEM. IT IS A LONG LIST. THIS IS FAULTY DESIGN, PURE AND SIMPLE.
