JUST EXPERIENCED MY SECOND SPONTANEOUS CRACK WITHIN FOUR SIX MONTHS WHERE THE WINDSHIELD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON MY 2019 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CRACK STARTS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD BELOW THE WIPER BLADES AND THE CRACK EXPANDS UPWARD APPROXIMATELY 12-18 INCHES. IT IS BEYOND MESHY THESE WINDSHIELDS HAVE TO BE REPLACED SO OFTEN AND IT IS MY OPINION THEY ARE MADE WITH MATERIALS THAT CANNOT STAND UP TO DAY TO DAY TEMPERATURE CHANGES OF NEW ENGLAND. THE CAR WAS PARKED ALL WEEKEND AND HAD NO CRACK. HOWEVER, ON MONDAY MORNING, THE CRACK WAS THERE.
STEERING WOBBLES VEERS IN AND OUT OF LANE AT RANDOM! BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE IT IS THAT IT FEELS LIKE 'ENGAGING AND DISENGAGING' FEELS LIKE I AM LOSING CONTROL WHILE DRIVING! NEEDS A TOTAL RECALL. ACCIDENTS WILL HAPPEN!
SMELL ANTIFREEZE
WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE, THE RADIO UNIT FROZE MAKING THE BACKUP SCREEN INOPERABLE. THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR WITH 200 MILES ON IT. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THEY WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE HEAD UNIT. THEY WERE ABLE TO GET THE UNIT WORKING, HOPEFULLY UNTIL THE NEW HEAD UNIT ARRIVES, BY PHYSICALLY DISCONNECTING THE CAR BATTERY. UPON RESEARCH, IT TURNS OUT THIS HAS BEEN A HUGE PROBLEM FOR SUBARU. HAD I KNOWN, I WOULD NEVER HAVE BOUGHT THE CAR. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THAT THEY CAN FIX THE PROBLEM AND WORRY I WILL BE LEFT WITH A CRIPPLED CAR WITH NO WARRANTY OR REDRESS. SINCE A BACK UP CAMERA IS A REQUIRED SAFETY FEATURE UNDER FEDERAL LAW, SUBARU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SELL THESE DEFECTIVE CARS UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS FIXED, THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM SHOULD HAVE A LIFETIME WARRANTY, AND A FULL RECALL SHOULD BE ORDERED. JUST GOOGLE 'SUBARU HEAD UNIT FAILURE.' HOW MUCH MORE INFORMATION DOES NHTSA NEED BEFORE IT ACTS? DOES A CHILD NEED TO BE KILLED IN A BACK UP ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE BACK UP CAMERA BEFORE APPROPRIATE ACTION IS TAKEN? IT IS CRIMINALLY NEGLIGENT TO ALLOW THESE CARS TO CONTINUE TO BE SOLD UNTIL SUBARU HAS PROVEN THAT THEY HAV FIXED THE PROBLEM!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AT 40 MPH OR ABOVE, THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO STEER DUE TO THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE VEERED INDEPENDENTLY FROM LANE TO LANE WHICH MADE THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE CONTACT REACHED OUT TO CAPITOL SUBARU LOCATED AT (235 CHERRY AVE NE, SALEM, OR 97301, 503-576-3300) BY EMAIL BUT WAS YET TO RECEIVE A RESPONSE IN RETURN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE BUT STATED THAT DUE TO THE CURRENT COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THEY WERE UNABLE TO VERIFY A DATE OR TIME WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100. *BF*JB
MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED BELOW THE WIPER.IT STARTED DEAD CENTER AND CRACK SPREAD RAPIDLY.RESEARCH SHOWS OTHER SUBARU OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. SUBARU WILL NOT ADMIT TO A DEFECT. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. NO VEHICLE WAS IN FRONT OF ME
WE WERE DRIVING OUR SUBARU OUTBACK WITH 1100 MILES ON IT ON THE HIGHWAY ON SUNDAY MAY 26, 2019 - THERE WAS NOT MUCH TRAFFIC AND NO ONE WAS IN FRONT OF US. WE NOTICED A CRACK IN OUR WINDSHIELD AND AT FIRST DID NOT THINK IT WAS A CRACK. WHEN WE GOT TO OUR DESTINATION WE LOOKED AT THE WINDSHIELD - ONLY TO FIND WHAT WAS A 4 INCH CRACK. NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD IT JUST CRACKED. THE CRACK STARTED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD BELOW THE WIPER BLADE (AS OTHERS HAVE STATED ALSO) AT THE PRESENT TIME THE CRACK IS ABOUT 18 INCHES AND HAS GONE FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD TO THE DRIVER SIDE AND HAS TAKEN A TURN NOW BACK TO THE PASSENGER SIDE. KNOW THAT OTHERS HAVE VOICED SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE SUBARU OUTBACK FROM 2019 AS WELL AS EARLIER YEARS OF THE MODEL. FEEL AS THOUGH SUBARU IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ISSUE.
WHEN I DRIVE MY NEW 2019 SUBARU OUTBACK WITH EYESIGHT (ONE MONTH OLD) ON HIGHWAY, A TRUCK RUNS OVER ROCKS AND THEY HITS MY WINDSHIELD. THEN THE WINDSHIELD HAS CHIPS AND CRACKS. THE CRACKS GROW LARGER THAN A DOLLAR BILL IN FEW MINUTES AND ONE CRACK IS LARGER THAN 22 INCHES IN FEW HOURS. IT SEEMS TO ME THE WINDSHIELD IS NOT WELL MADE AND DOES NOT HAVE GOOD QUALITY. IT IS NOT SAFE.
I PURCHASED A NEW 2019 OUTBACK AT THE END OF MARCH IN 2019. IN MAY 2019, MY WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED, DIAGONALLY ACROSS THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN JULY TO NOTE THE CRACK AND REQUEST THEY REPLACE IT SINCE IT SEEMED TO HAPPEN WITHOUT ANY IMPACT. THE CRACK BEGAN FROM THE TOP EDGE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE FROM SUBARU OR THE DEALERSHIP.
OUR NEW 2019 OUTBACK EXPERIENCED A WINDSHIELD CRACK WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT ANY INDICATION OF IMPACT OF A FOREIGN OBJECT. THE CRACK APPEARED IMMEDIATELY AFTER TURNING ON THE DEFOG SYSTEM WHILE DRIVING. THE LOCAL DEALER INSISTED THAT THE CRACK WAS DUE TO OUTSIDE INFLUENCE AND NOT WINDSHIELD MATERIAL FAILURE. AFTER CONTACTING SUBARU OF AMERICA THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPAIRED AS A COURTESY AT THE DEALERSHIP.
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED AFTER LESS THAN A MONTH OF OWNERSHIP. IT STARTED FROM THE LOWER PASSENGER SIDE BELOW THE WIPER ON THE HEATING ELEMENT. IT MANIFESTED ONE MORNING BEFORE I LEFT FOR WORK IN LATE MAY. MY DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO REPLACE IT, CLAIMING IT WAS A ROCK, THOUGH THERE ARE NO CHIPS OR SPIDERING. IT'S A SINGLE LONG CRACK THAT WINDS ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. WHEN I ASKED THEM HOW IT COULD HAVE BEEN A ROCK WITHOUT A POINT OF IMPACT, THE RESPONSE FROM THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS "ROCKS CAN DO FUNNY THINGS." MY 2016 IMPREZA HAD ITS WINDSHIELD REPLACED WITH THIS EXACT TYPE OF CRACK UNDER WARRANTY.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE CAR WAS STATIONARY
I TOOK DELIVERY OF A 2019 SUBARU OUTBACK IN MID-JANUARY 2019. IN MARCH (03/12/2019) A SMALL ROCK HIT THE DRIVERS EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELD RESULTING IN A LARGE CRACK. I WORKED IT THROUGH MY INSURANCE AND THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED BY A THIRD-PARTY INSTALLER WORKING DIRECTLY WITH THE LOCAL SUBARU DEALERSHIP. AT THE TIME, I HAD ONLY 2K MILES ON THE VEHICLE. IN MAY (05/09/2019), A SMALL ROCK HIT THE REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD AND THERE IS NOW A LARGE CRACK. THE WINDSHIELD WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 5K MILES ON IT. I'VE HAD TWO (2) BROKEN WINDSHIELDS BEFORE I HAVE EVEN HAD MY FIRST OIL CHANGE. MY PREVIOUS VEHICLE WAS A 2007 SUBARU OUTBACK. I DROVE IT FOR 12 YEARS AND 235K MILES AND NEVER HAD A CRACKED WINDSHIELD EVEN THOUGH IT HAD BEEN HIT BY COUNTLESS ROCKS AND HAD NUMEROUS CHIPS. TWO WINDSHIELDS IN THREE MONTHS SUGGESTS THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE MODERN GLASS THAT IS DESIGNED TO WORK WITH THE SUBARU EYESIGHT SYSTEM. I WROTE AND ASKED SUBARU TO REPLACE THE SECOND WINDSHIELD AS A WARRANTY ITEM BUT THEY DECLINED. BOTH INCIDENTS OCCURED WHILE DRIVING ON PAVED HIGHWAYS.
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED WITHOUT ANY EXTERNAL EVENT WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED. THE REAR VIEW MIRROR WHICH IS ATTACHED TO THE WINDSHIELD SHEARED OFF COMPLETELY. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN A DRIVEWAY, THIS OCCURRED DURING THE DAY IN MAY AFTER OWNING THE CAR FOR A FEW MONTHS.
BASED UPON THE SUBARU REVIEW IN THE CONSUMER REPORTS APRIL AUTO ISSUE, I PURCHASED A 2019 OUTBACK. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING. IT HAS ABOUT THIRTY DEGREES OF PLAY. IT TAKES CONSTANT ADJUSTMENT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN THE CENTER OF THE LANE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE STEERING. I JUST HAD TO GET USED TO DRIVING WITH THE SUBARU 'EYE SIGHT'. DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IS STRESSFUL TO SAY THE LEAST. ON A TRIP TO TAMPA ON I-275 I ALMOST SIDE SWIPED ANOTHER CAR.
I HAD PARKED TRY 2019 OUTBACK FOR WORK ON A PUBLIC STREET. WHEN I GOT IN AFTER WORK AND CLOSED MY DOOR, THE REAR GLASS SHATTERED AND ABOUT 1/4 OF IT FELL INTO THE BACK OF THE CAR. I INSPECTED THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR AND THE OUTSIDE AREA WHERE IT WAS PARKED, LOOKING FOR SOME SIGN THAT MAYBE SOMEONE HAD TRIED TO BREAK IN OR VANDALIZED IT. I FOUND NO SIGN. I THEN PUSHED MORE OF THE SHATTERED GLASS INSIDE MY CAR TO IMPROVE THE REAR VISIBILITY, AND DROVE TO A GLASS REPAIR STORE.
BEGINNING IN MARCH OF 2019, I BEGAN NOTICING THAT THE STEERING FELT "WOBBLY" ABOVE 40 MPH, AS IF THE CAR HIT A PATCH OF ICE OR WAS STRUCK BY A SUDDEN GUST OF WIND. DRIVING FEELS VERY UNSAFE. THIS IS OUR THIRD SUBARU OUTBACK, GOING BACK TO 1998, SO WE ARE FAMILIAR WITH DRIVING THIS CAR (OR AT LEAST OLDER MODEL YEARS). FURTHER, BY TURNING OFF THE NEW "LANE DEPARTURE SWITCH" THIS PROBLEM IS MINIMIZED. WE JUST MOVED FROM FLORIDA TO CONNECTICUT AND I AM NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO DRIVING THIS CAR IN THE WINTER. THESE CARS NEED TO BE RECALLED AND FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE HAS A SERIOUS ACCIDENT!!!
ABOVE 50-60 MILES AN HOUR THE STEERING BEGAN TO WANDER (IT FELT LIKE I HAD NO CONTROL AND THE CAR WANTED TO STEER ITSELF) VERY DANGEROUS! ON AN INTERSTATE WHERE SPEED LIMIT WAS 70MPH.
WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY FROM 40-70 MPH, AND MAKING A TURN TO RIGHT OR LEFT, THE STEERING WILL SUDDENLY OVER STEER TOWARDS THE DIRECTION OF THE TURN, GIVING A FEELING OF LOSS OF CONNECTION BETWEEN STEERING WHEEL AND THE CAR'S WHEELS. FEELS LIKE TOO MUCH PLAY IN STEERING WHEEL. HAVE TO OVER CORRECT THE OTHER DIRECTION TO GET STEERING FEEL AND CORRECT DIRECTION FOR THE CAR BACK. DANGEROUS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL COOLANT ODOR INSIDE THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN MULTIPLE TIMES TO CROSS CREEK SUBARU LOCATED AT 497 N. MCPHERSON CHURCH RD, FAYETTEVILLE, NC 28303, (910) 356-8830, HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4.
WARM SUNNY DAY. LEFT WORK, DRIVING HOME, HEARD A POP AND THERE IS A 12" CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD THAT STARTS AT THE TOP AND GOES DOWN FROM THERE. NO STONE/ROCK HIT,
2 WINDSHIELDS HAVE CRACKED WITHOUT AN OBVIOUS CAUSE. OCCURRED AT 2,000 AND 7,000 MILES.
I WAS DRIVING FROM SACRAMENTO TO LONG BEACH - ABOUT 200 MILES INTO THE JOURNEY, AT ABOUT 6:10/6:15 ON A MILD EVENING (TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 75) MY SUNROOF SUDDENLY EXPLODED. THE ROAD CONDITION WERE FINE, THERE WAS NO DEBRIS IN THE ROAD THAT I COULD SEE OR WAS AWARE OF. I WAS TRAVELING WITH TRAFFIC AT ABOUT 75 MPH (SPEED LIMIT IS 70). THE SOUND WAS LIKE A SHOTGUN BLAST. IT WAS, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, ONE OF THE MOST FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCES I'VE HAD, PARTICULARLY IN A VEHICLE. I PULLED OVER AND SAW WHAT HAD OCCURRED. IT IS UNLIKELY THAT SOMETHING STRUCK THE SUNROOF - I HAD A THULE CARGO BOX ON THE VEHICLE AND NOTHING COULD HAVE STRUCK IT FROM ABOVE. IT WAS ALSO UNLIKELY FOR SOMETHING TO HAVE HIT THE WINDSHIELD FROM THE ROAD - IT WOULD HAVE HAD TO FIT IN THE SPACE BETWEEN THE HOOD AND THE CARGO BOX AND I HEARD NOTHING BEFORE THE EXPLOSION - ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS NO DAMAGE OR EVIDENCE OF ANYTHING HITTING THE ROOF ANYWHERE ELSE THAT I CAN SEE NOW. I HAVE CONTACTED SUBARU AND MADE THEM AWARE THEY HAVE BEGUN THEIR OWN INTERNAL INVESTIGATION.
MY CONCERN IS WITH THE QUALITY AND SAFETY OF THE WINDSHIELD ON THE 2019 SUBARU OUTBACK. I PURCHASED A 2019 SUBARU OUTBACK ON 12/31/18. IT NOW HAS 3200 MILES ON IT. ON 04/17/19 I NOTICED AN 8-10 INCH CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS A VERY SMALL, BARELY NOTICEABLE, CHIP WITHIN THE CRACK. AT NO TIME DID I HEAR ANYTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING. THEREFORE, A CRACKED WINDSHIELD WAS SHOCKING AND ENTIRELY UNEXPECTED FROM SUCH MINIMAL CONTACT WITH THE WINDSHIELD. WHEN THE CAR IS NOT IN USE IT IS GARAGE KEPT. MY COMMUTE HAS NOT CHANGED SINCE BUYING THIS CAR AND I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR WINDSHIELD CRACK IN OVER 30 YEARS OF DRIVING. DUE TO THE SIZE OF THE CRACK, THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD MUST BE REPLACED AND THE SUBARU "EYESIGHT" SYSTEM RE-CALIBRATED. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THE WINDSHIELD SHOULD NOT HAVE CRACKED IN THIS SITUATION. A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH INDICATES THAT OTHERS HAVE CONCERNS WITH THE 2019 SUBARU OUTBACK WINDSHIELD.
PLEASE REVIEW AND ESCALATE THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE SAME ISSUE RESULTED IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN CALIFORNIA. I PURCHASED MY 2019 SUBARU OUTBACK ON 12.31.18. AFTER WORK IN MID APRIL OF 2019, I RETURNED TO MY PARKED CAR. UNLOCKED AND ENTERED THE VEHICLE FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I LOWERED THE SUN SHADE AND NOTICED A LARGE CRACK IN THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. IT STARTED AT THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE GLASS ON THE DRIVER SIDE, ARCED UP AND CURVED TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. NO OTHER DAMAGE WAS NOTICED INSIDE. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND CHECKED IT FOR ANY ADDITIONAL DAMAGE AND CHECKED THE WINDSHIELD FROM THE OUTSIDE. THERE DID NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY OTHER DAMAGE THAN THE CRACKED WINDSHIELD AND A MINISCULE LEFT PASSENGER DOOR DING. AS IF THE EDGE OF ANOTHER CAR DOOR CAME IN CONTACT WITH MY SUBARU. NO ROAD HAZARDS OR DEBRIS WAS ENCOUNTERED ON THE WAY TO OR FROM WORK. I NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP, HILEY SUBARU OF FORT WORTH, AND REQUESTED TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED DURING MY NEXT SERVICE APPOINTMENT INDICATING THIS WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT UNDER WARRANTY. AT THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT, THEY DECLINED TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD UNDER WARRANTY.
WINDSHIELD CHIPPED WHILE DOING 55 ON HIGHWAY. SMALL ROCK WAS THROWN UP BY PASSING VECHICLE. OUTBACK WAS ONLY 9 HOURS OLD AND HAD 42 MILES ON THE ENGINE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, WHEN SHE HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND SAW THE WINDSHIELD CRACK SPONTANEOUSLY FROM THE DRIVER SIDE TO THE CENTER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER CHILSON SUBARU LOCATED AT 3443 WI-93 TRUNK, EAU CLAIRE, WI 54701, (715) 834-0701, AND THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED BY THE INSURANCE PROVIDER. THE CONTACT STATED SHE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE THREE TIMES ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. *BF*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE BATTERY DRAINED, CAUSING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO BECOME INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED EIGHT TIMES. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED OUT TO JUMP START THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE WHEN THE BATTERY WAS DRAINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE EACH TIME. GRAND JUNCTION SUBARU (651 MARKET ST, GRAND JUNCTION, CO 81505, 970-208-0110) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,013.
2019 SUBARU OUTBACK PURCHASED 2/20/19; TOOK POSSESSION 2/22/19. ON 4/14/19 TWO VERY LARGE (18-24IN)CRACKS, RAPIDLY SPREADING APPEARED AS I STARTED UP MY VEHICLE. ONE CRACK STARTED ABOUT 2 IN ABOVE THE LOWER CORNER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS BEFORE THIS CRACK APPEARED, A VERY SMALL PIECE OF GRAVEL STRUCK THE WINDSHIELD IN THIS AREA BUT NO DAMAGE/CRACKS/HOLES WERE VISIBLE ON CLOSE INSPECTION FOLLOWING THIS. THE SECOND CRACK ORIGINATED APPROX. MIDWAY BELOW THE WIPER APPARATUS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THERE HAD BEEN NO ROCKS HITTING IN THIS AREA PREVIOUSLY OR OTHER DAMAGE. AGAIN, BOTH CRACKS STARTED AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IMMOBILE OVERNIGHT IN MY GARAGE; THE TEMPERATURE THAT MORNING WAS IN THE HIGH 40S (48F) AND IMMEDIATELY OCCURRED ON STARTING THE VEHICLE AND SPREAD WITHIN SECONDS TO 18-24 INCHES ARCHING ACROSS THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD. SINCE, THE CRACKS HAVE CONTINUED TO SPREAD APPROX 1-3 INCHES PER DAY. IN CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP, THEY DENY ANY ISSUES WITH SUBARU OUTBACK WINDSHIELDS. THIS IS UNLIKE ANY WINDSHIELD CRACKING EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD AND DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE DUE TO ROCK DAMAGE, OTHER EXTERNAL DAMAGE.

ON 4/10/19 AS I WAS GETTING INTO MY CAR, I NOTICED A HUGE CRACK ON MY DRIVER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT STARTS FROM THE BASE RUNNING TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CAR WAS BOUGHT ON JAN 20TH OF 2019 AND HAS 4200 MILES. CALLED SAFELITE AND THEY ARE ESTIMATING $1300+ TO REPLACE.
BOUGHT NEW 11/2019.BATTERY WILL NOT STAY CHARGED...NOW ON 3RD BATTERY INSTALLED BY DEALER.TODAY,(02/27/2020) THIS BATTERY IS NOW DEAD.MY WIFE IS DISABLED AND HAS A 95 YEAR OLD MOTHER LIVING 300 MILES FROM MY HOME THAT SHE VISITS ON A REGULAR BASIS...I DO NOT TRUST THIS VEHICLE NOT TO LEAVE HER STRANDED! SUBARU HAS A PROBLEM ACCORDING TO MY RESEARCH AND THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF IT LEAVES YOU STRANDED.
WINDSHIELD SUDDENLY CRACKED WHILE DRIVING DOWN I-17 AT NO TIME DID I HEAR/SEE A ROCK STRIKE THE WINDSHIELD.
LOOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN DRIVING FASTER THAN 50 MPH ON HIGHWAY, OR TURNING ON CURVES. THE STEERING WHEEL TENDS TO WANDER THAT THE DRIVER DOES NOT HAVE THE CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DRIVER FEELS UNSAFE.
THE WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A CRACK AND SIGNIFICANT EXPANSION CRACKS WHILE DRIVING 70MPH ON A HIGHWAY ON 27MAR2019. THERE WAS NO CAR WITHIN 1-2 FOOTBALL FIELDS. THIS WAS ON A 4-LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY. THE PEBBLE THAT MAY HAVE HIT MY WINDSHIELD SHOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED THE SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE WINDSHIELD SINCE NO VEHICLE WAS NEARBY. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR <2 MONTHS AND HAVE DRIVEN IT ~3500 MILES. IT WAS BRAND NEW. IT APPEARS THERE IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT MAY BE SIMILAR TO THE 2015-2016 OUTBACK. I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE MAY CONTINUED CRACKS/FRACTURES OF THE WINDSHIELD WITH MINIMAL TRAUMA. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, SOMETHING WAS KICKED UP AND HIT THE WINDSHIELD OF THE VEHICLE. BOTH TIME AN IMMEDIATE CRACK WAS SENT THROUGHT THE WINDSHIELD. BOTH TIMES WERE ON AN HIGHWAY, TRAVELING ABOUT 45MPH. I HAVE HAD THINGS POP UP AND HIT MY WINDSHIELD IN OTHER VEHICLES AND MAYBE THEY JUST CHILL OR STAR . I FEEL THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN THE STRENGTH OF THE GLASS THAT IS USED, IN THIS VEHICLE I FEEL IT IS EXTREMELY WEAK.
I GOT A NEW 2019 OUTBACK IN DECEMBER. I HAVE BARELY DRIVEN IT. I FINALLY TOOK MY FAMILY OUT AND MY PASSENGER WINDOW CRACKED IN TWO PLACES WHILE WE WERE PARKED.
ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN EARLY 2019, A SMALL ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. 1-2 DAYS LATER THE CRACK GREW LARGE AND THE ENTIRE GLASS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. RECENTLY THE WINDSHIELD WAS DAMAGED AGAIN WITH A SMALL ROCK WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, AND I'M AFRAID I'LL NEED TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD AGAIN. SUBARU FAILED TO DISCLOSE MATERIAL FACTS AND A SAFETY CONCERN WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ABOUT THE WEAK WINDSHIELD.
THE WINDSHIELD ON MY 2019 SUBARU OUTBACK CRACKED OUT OF NOWHERE WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO WORK. THERE HAD BEEN NOTHING UP TO THIS POINT THAT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN THE WINDSHIELD CRACKING. THERE WERE NO CHIPS OR DENTS PREVIOUS TO THE CRACKING.
WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED. MID WAY UP ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, JUST LIKE HALF THE OUTBACK'S I SEE ON THE ROAD. 2014 AND FORWARD MODEL YEARS PITCHED THE WINDSHIELDS AT A LOWER ANGLE, MAKING THE WINDSHIELD OPENING IN THE BODY LARGER AND MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO FLEX WHEN THE FRAME RACKS GOING OVER BUMPS. (MAYBE THE SEALANT IS TOO RIGID.)
DEAD BATTERY IF THE CARS SITS PARKED 2 DAYS. NOTHING LEFT ON, IT IS A PARASITIC BATTERY DRAIN. HAPPENED TWICE AND BATTERY WAS TOTALLY DEAD EACH TIME, NEEDING TO BE FULLY RECHARGED AS IT WOULDN'T TAKE A JUMP. LESS THAN 2000 MILES ON THE CAR.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED SPONTANEOUSLY. DRIVER WINDOW DOES NOT OPEN.

THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER LIVERMORE SUBARU LOCATED AT 3600 LAS POSITAS RD, LIVERMORE, CA 94551, (925) 344-5466 HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED SHE EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE MULTIPLE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9.
MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE RIGHT REAR STABILIZER BRACKET OUTSIDE WELD. THE WELD IS IMPROPERLY PLACED AND DOES NOT ACTUALLY ATTACH PART OF THE BRACKET TO THE SUBFRAME. (NOTE, THE WELD ON THE LEFT REAR STABILIZER BRACKET IS PROPERLY PLACED AND DOES ATTACH THE BRACKET TO THE SUBFRAME.) IT'S CLEAR THAT THE BRACKET OR WELD WERE OUT OF POSITION BECAUSE THE WELD BEAD HAS NO PENETRATION ON THE STABILIZER BAR BRACKET. THE LACK OF WELD ON THIS SIDE OF THE BRACKET WILL PLACE THE BRACKET UNDER A TORSIONAL LOAD THEREBY PLACING GREATER STRESS ON THE WELD ON THE INSIDE TAB OF THE BRACKET. FAIILURE OF THIS BRACKET COULD LEAD TO REDUCE VEHICLE STABILITY. CHANCES ARE IF MY VEHICLE WAS PRODUCED LIKE THIS THEN OTHER VEHICLES WERE ALSO PRODUCED LIKE THIS. IT'S NOT SOMETHING WHICH YOU WOULD NORMALLY NOTICE BECAUSE THIS ISN'T A ROUTINE INSPECTION ITEM.
BATTERY COMPLETELY DISCHARGED AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF NOT USING VEHICLE, THIS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS DURING FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. INITIALLY WE THOUGHT IT WAS RELATED TO LEAVING THE KEY IN OR NEAR THE VEHICLE, OR THE AUTO CLOSE BACK HATCH NOT COMPLETELY CLOSING DUE TO MAT OBSTRUCTION. AFTER BEING STRANDED SEVERAL TIMES AND ALMOST MISSING A FLIGHT WE PURCHASED A BATTERY STARTER. IT WAS IRONIC AND A LITTLE HUMBLING TO HAVE TO CARRY A BATTERY STARTER AROUND WITH YOU IN A BRAND NEW CAR SO YOU WOULDN'T GET STRANDED SOMEWHERE - ESPECIALLY A VEHICLE MARKETED TO ADVENTUROUS FOLKS WHO PARK AT REMOTE TRAILHEADS. I EVENTUALLY PURCHASED A NEW HIGHER AMP BATTERY WHICH HAS LARGER MITIGATED THE ISSUE, BUT I STILL PERIODICALLY CHARGE THE NEW BATTERY AS ADDITIONAL INSURANCE. I MEASURED A PARASITIC DISCHARGE RATE OF ~114 MA WHICH IS ABOVE BASELINE OF 50 MA CITED BY SOME, BUT BELOW 150 MA THRESHOLD MENTIONED BY OTHERS. SUBARU (BOTH DEALERSHIP AND CUSTOMER SERVICE) WERE MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT DIDN'T OFFER TO DIAGNOSE OR REMEDY, ATTRIBUTING THE ISSUE TO NOT DRIVING THE VEHICLE OFTEN ENOUGH IN COMBINATION WITH SUGGESTION WE PURCHASE A BETTER BATTERY GIVEN OUR DRIVING HABITS. SO WE HAVE A VEHICLE WITH A RELATIVELY HIGH PARASITIC DRAIN RATE THAT COMES WITH A UNDER SIZED BATTERY, LEAVING THE CUSTOMER TO WONDER WHAT IS GOING ON AND CREATING POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES IN TERMS OF NON-STARTING VEHICLE. *TR

CAR HAS LESS THAN 400 MILES ON. WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT FEELS LIKE I DO NOT HAVE ANY CONTROL, NO FEEDBACK FROM A STEERING WHEEL. IT FEELS LIKE DRIVING ON ICE. WENT TO A DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. IT FEELS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING, AND I FEEL TOTALLY EXHAUSTED AFTER. HAD MULTIPLE OUTBACKS IN THE PAST AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE LIKE THIS. THEY NEED TO FIX IT ASAP, TOO DANGEROUS.
UNEXPLAINED CRACKED WINDSHIELD.
I WAS EMAILING ABOUT MY CONCERN FOR MY 2019 OUTBACK AND THE ONGOING ISSUES WITH THE WINDSHIELD. I HAD AN ISSUE WHERE MY WINDSHIELD WAS STRUCK WITH SOME SMALL DEBRIS AND CAUSED A CRACK IN MY WINDSHIELD. A WEEK LATER IT CRACKED SEVERELY ON THE BOTTOM PASSENGER SIDE. TWO WEEKS' AFTER, A SMALL PEBBLE HIT THE TOP PASSENGER SIDE ON THE WINDSHIELD AND CAUSED A PIT. A WEEK AFTER THAT ISSUE IT ALSO CRACKED SEVERELY WHERE THE SECOND HIT OCCURRED. I AM AWARE OF THE CLASS ACTION ISSUE FOR FRONT WINDSHIELDS FROM 2016 TO 2017 FOR OUTBACK'S. IS THIS AN ONGOING PROBLEM? IF SO HOW CAN YOUR COMPANY CLAIM TO THE SAFEST VEHICLE ON THE ROAD IF THE WINDSHIELD CONTINUES TO HAVE ISSUES. I HAVE A BABY ON THE WAY IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND NOW I DOUBT THE SAFETY OF MY CHOICE. I WAS BEHIND A CONSTRUCTION VEHICLE AND HAD A LARGE AMOUNT OF TAR CHUNKS AND ROCKS HIT MY NISSAN ALTIMA. IT HAD SOME CHIPS IN THE WINDSHIELD BUT NEVER CRACKED. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR LESS THAN 3 MONTHS WITH LESS THAN 2000 MILES ON IT AND ALREADY SEVERE CHIPS AND CRACKS IN MY WINDSHIELD? THE GLASS COMPANY THAT WAS USED MUST BE ALLOWING INFERIOR PRODUCTS TO BE SOLD. I WANT TO KNOW HOW I CAN BE COMPENSATED FOR MY TIME AND AGUISH AND HOW YOUR COMPANY CAN FIX THIS ONGOING ISSUE? THE GLASS ON THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY QUALITY ISSUES AS IT HAS NOT SEEN ANY ROAD TIME OR WEAR ALONG WITH SUN DEGRADATION. WINDSHIELD WAS FROSTED IN AM, STARTED MOTOR AND DEFROSTERS TO WARM AND PREPARE CAR FOR DEPARTURE. WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE CAR WAS STATIONARY IN THE DRIVEWAY. MADE APPT. WITH SUBARU, THEY DECLINED RESPONSIBILITY UNDER WARRANTY AND ADVISED TO HAVE INSURANCE REPLACE IT. WHILE WAITING FOR SECOND APPT. WITH A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP A SMALL PEBBLE IMPACTED UPPER RIGHT CORNER SO I JUST HAD INSURANCE COVER IT AS IT WAS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITH AT THIS POINT. (3/27/19 INSURANCE REPLACEMENT WITH ORIG. SUBARU WINDSHIELD- $500 DEDUCTIBLE, $225 EYESIGHT RECALIBRATION). 2ND BREAK: 6-'19: WHILE DRIVING 50MPH ON 2 LANE ROAD A GRAVEL TRUCK PASSING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION DROPPED A VERY SMALL PEBBLE THAT WOULD HAVE NOT BROKE WINDSHIELD ON MY TOYOTA OR MAZDA BASED ON PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN SIMILAR SITUATIONS. SMALL PEBBLE IMPACTED WINDSHIELD IN UPPER LEFT CORNER AND IMMEDIATELY SPREAD ACROSS AND DOWN IN SEVERAL SPOTS REQUIRING REPLACEMENT (6/10/19 REPLACEMENT UNDER 20/20 GLASS WARRANTY). REQUIRED ADDITIONAL 3RD REPLACEMENT AS SUBARU SUPPLIED DEFECTIVE RUBBER STRIPPING FOR SECOND REPLACEMENT. NOW WINDSHIELD AREA CREATES ADDITIONAL WIND/ROAD NOISE AND NEW RATTLE IN DASH AS RESULT OF 3 REPLACEMENTS. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE WINDSHIELD FIRST BREAK HOWEVER THEY WILL NOT UPLOAD.
