In my 2006 Toyota Avalon XL on dashboard appeared SRS Airbag light. Unable to clear it.
When vehicle needed to abruptly stop to avoid an accident it failed twice resulting in collision
Master cylinder leaking from seal may be leaking into brake booster causing brake light to illuminate and no resistance w brake pedal have to press the break pedal all the way to slow down.
CAR INTERMITTENTLY COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF, SO I HAVE TO PULL OVER WITH NO POWER STEERING, PUT IT IN PARK AND START IT BACKUP THIS OCCURS WITHIN 2 MILES OF STARTUP AND USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated that while attempt to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact mentioned waiting days later to start the vehicle and noticed the burnt odor coming from the vehicle. In addition there was white smoke coming from underneath the front passenger side of the vehicle. The contact noticed that there was wires burnt. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact the price for a diagnosis for the harness wiring. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Dashboard sticky, cracking. Also extreme glare off dash causing sight distraction. Part of a recall and toyota would not assist
TWO PREVIOUS AVALONS (97&98) AND THE ONE IDENTIFIED HERE, DID AND DOES ALLOW THE KEY TO BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION WITH THE CAR BEING IN PARK. THE DANGER IS THAT THE CAR WILL ROLL AND COULD RUN OVER SOMEONE OR INTO TRAFFIC AND CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY. MY HUSBAND AND I ALWAYS REMINDED EACH OTHER TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, BUT HE IS NO LONGER WITH ME AND RECENTLY I STARTED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AND IT WAS ON A SLIGHT INCLINE AND IT STARTED ROLLING WHILE I WAS GETTING OUT. I HAVE COMPLAINED IN THE PAST TO TOYOTA, BUT THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE ME. A RECENT COMPLAINT BROUGHT THE ANSWER THAT THE 36000 MILE WARRANTY DOESN'T APPLY TO THE REPAIR. I UNDERSTAND THAT, BUT THIS IS EVIDENTLY A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH AVALONS THAT TOYOTA HAS REFUSED TO ADDRESS, OR MY 2006 WOULDN'T HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. WE HAVE ALMOST ALWAYS BOUGHT USED CARS AND TRUCKS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE THAT WOULD ALLOW THE KEY TO BE REMOVED WITHOUT BEING IN PARK. YOU ASK FOR A SPECIFIC DATE AT THE END OF THIS "STEP". IT IS ONGOING SO I HAVE JUST PUT YESTERDAYS DATE. THE CAR WAS A GIFT IN SEPTEMBER OF 2014.
UNDER HARD ACCELERATION WHILE TURNING, YOU WILL EXPERIENCE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. IE, ENTERING TRAFFIC FROM A CROSS STREET.
MY DASHBOARD HAS A TEAR OVER THE AIRBAG ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ON FRANKLIN ST. IN HEMPSTEAD BEFORE THE COVID 19 VIRUS SHUT DOWN. I WAS INFORMED THAT SINCE THERE'S NO RECALL ON MY VEHICLE, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO CHANGE THE DASHBOARD COVER. I THINK IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THIS HAPPENED THROUGH NO FAULT OF MY OWN. THE VEHICLE IS IN MINT CONDITION AND RUNS LIKE NEW BECAUSE I TAKE CARE OF MY CARS. PLEASE HELP *TR
HESITATION FROM TAKE OFF INTERMITTENT, TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS ON INCLINES. I WOULD BE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND THE CAR WOULD BARLEY MOVE EVEN WITH PUSHING DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR! THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WILL JUST TAKE OFF! I'LL BE DRIVING THROUGH THEY CITY AND BETWEEN 40 AND 50 MILES PER HOUR THE CAR SHIFTS ERRATICALLY
ON JUNE 7, 2019, I WAS DRIVING THE AVALON, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON CITY STREET. WITH THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES, I WAS TRAUMATIZED AND DID MY BEST TO GUIDE THE VEHICLE TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED HOME AND HOOKED UP TO A CODE READER, WHICH YIELDED CODES P0345, P0300, P0302, P0304, P0306. WE DID FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS AND DISCOVERED THE 3 BOLTS THAT HOLD THE VARIABLE-VALVE TIMING (VVT) GEAR TO THE INTAKE CAMSHAFT CAME LOOSE, THESE BOLTS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE TEMPER-RESISTANT AND NEVER BE REMOVED WHICH LED ME TO BELIEVE THE RESULT OF ENGINE DYING IS CAUSED BY SERIOUS MANUFACTURING AND DESIGN DEFECTS. PLEASE REFER TO ATTACHED THREE PICTURES SHOWING 3 BOLTS LAYING NEXT TO VVT GEAR, VVT GEAR LOOSELY HELD ON AND THE VIBRATION OF BOLT LEFT CUTTING MARK ON THE GEAR, AND ALL INTAKE CAM ROCKERS FALLING OUT. I DID MORE RESEARCH AND CONCLUDED THE ROOT CAUSE OF ENGINE STOPPED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN IN OUR AVALON IS IDENTICAL TO TOYOTA SAFETY RECALL 13V-395 IN LEXUS VEHICLES 2006 TO 2011. ON JUNE 27, 2019, I CALLED STEVENS CREEK TOYOTA AND TOYOTA HQ AND LOGGED CASE [XXX]. I WAS INFORMED BY TOYOTA THERE'S NO RECALL FOR AVALON WITH THE VIN, AND THE VEHICLE HAD NO FACTORY WARRANTY (CURRENTLY 153K MILES), AND NO EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH ENGINE STALL FOR AVALON. AS A RESULT, WE NEED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE IN OUR OWN EXPENSE WHICH REQUIRES ENGINE REBUILT AS ENGINE STALL HAS CAUSED SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. I WAS APPALLED BY TOYOTA FOR LACK OF INITIATION TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY RISK IN OUR AVALON AND WE APPRECIATE YOUR THOROUGH INVESTIGATION IN THIS MATTER. I AM HAVING A LOUD GRINDING SOUND WHEN I PUT CAR IN REVERSE, FOOT ON BRAKE, FOUND WAS REAR WINDOW SHADE(SUNSHADE). NOISE LAST MIN. AT STATIONARY AND IN MOTION, THEN GOES AWAY. APPARENTLY KNOWN PROBLEM WITH 2006 AND 2007
---BUYERS BEWARE.--- TIRES PURCHASED: 215/55R-17 CONTINENTAL PURECONTACT LS SL PURCHASED THESE TIRES ON TIRE RACK AND HAD THEM PROFESSIONAL PLACED ON BY FIRESTONE PERSONNEL (APPROPRIATE TIRE PRESSURE CHECKED). IN JUST A LITTLE OVER A MONTH, LESS THAN 100 MILES, AND WITHOUT ANY TRAUMA (NO POTHOLES, CURBS, ETC), THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE HAD A MAJOR, SIDEWALL BLOWOUT ON THE HIGHWAY (70 MPH) WITH NEAR CATASTROPHIC CONSEQUENCES. CONTINENTAL WILL NOT ALLOW A REFUND BUT WILL ONLY PERMIT ME TO PURCHASE TIRES IN THEIR LINEUP ACCORDING TO THEIR 60 DAY POLICY. HOWEVER, THIS SHOULD BE AN EXCEPTION DUE TO THE NEAR MISS THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS BODILY HARM OR DEATH. I DO NOT TRUST THESE TIRES GIVEN THE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE FROM SUCH LITTLE USAGE (PLEASE SEE PHOTOS). THEY HAVE DENIED ANY CLAIM OF DEFECT IN THEIR TIRES BUT I AM PERPLEXED ON HOW SUCH EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO A TIRE CAN HAPPEN WITHOUT ANY TRAUMA OR INCITING EVENT. PLEASE DON'T PUT YOUR FAMILY OR LOVED ONES IN HARM'S WAY AND HIGHLY CONSIDER AN ALTERNATIVE BRAND OF TIRE THAN GENERAL OR CONTINENTAL.
MULTIPLE CRACKS DEVELOPED ON THE DASHBOARD
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA AVALON. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 5 MPH TO PULL INTO AN UNDERGROUND GARAGE AREA, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK AND FAILED TO RELEASE. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED WITH FORCE, BUT THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE DOOR. UPON IMPACT, A YELLOW PIECE ASSOCIATED WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG FRACTURED. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD AND NECK AND SUSTAINED BODILY SCRATCHES AND BRUISING, WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PLANNED TO INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG AND ACCELERATION FAILURES. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) AND 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL AT THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 216,000.
DASHBOARD CRACKING IN TWO PLACES. OUR 2006 DASHBOARD IS CRACKING IN TWO PLACES, AREA BY DRIVERS DOOR AND IN THE PLACE WHERE THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS LOCATED. OUR 2008 DID THE SAME THING AND TOYOTA REPLACED THE WHOLE DSAH BUT OUR 2006 IS TOO OLD TO BE COVERED. WE'RE CONCERNED THAT ONCE THE CRACK GOES ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE COMPARTMNT WHERE THE SIR BAG IS THAT IT WILL BUST OPEN HIT THE PASSENGER IN THE FACE.
MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF IN A PREVIOUS RECALL I BELIEVE BUT WITH THIS UPDATE ON OTHER VEHICLES EFFECTED I 100 PERCENT SURE MY 06 AVALON XLS AND MAYBE OTHERS ARE HAVING AIRBAG ISSUES. THE SEATS (LEATHER) HAVE BEEN EFFECTED BY THE SEAT WARMERS OVER HEATING
TOYOTA COMPANY REFUSE TO HONOR MY COMPLAINT THAT I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY LETTERS REGARDING A RECALL ON MY 2006 TOYOTA AVALON. TOYOTA COMPANY STATES THAT THE RECALL ON MY 2006 AVALON HAS EXPIRED. TOYOTA COMPANY STATED THEY MAIL OUT A RECALL LETTER TO MY ADDRESS IN 2015 AND 2017. I DID NOT RECEIVE THE LETTER AT MY ADDRESS. I LIVE IN A MOBILE HOME PARK WHERE ITS ABOUT 30 MOBILE HOMES IS LOCATED WITH THE ADDRESS, EXCEPT THE LOT NUMBER IS DIFFERENT. I SEARCH THROUGH MY MAIL TO DOUBLE CHECK AND I DO NOT HAVE ANY LETTERS REGARDING A RECALL. I CALLED LAST YEAR (2018) BECAUSE I NOTICE SEVERAL SPLITTING LINE ACROSS THE DASH BOARD OF MY CAR DASHBOARD AND IT HAS A STICKY FEELING BY TOUCHING. I HAVE READ SEVERAL EMAILS STATING "ACCORDINGLY, PER WEBSITES ON RECALL THERE IS NO TIME LIMIT ON GETTING A RECALL FIXED, AND MOST DEALERS SHOULD HONOR THE RECALL AND FIX YOUR CAR FREE OF CHARGE. THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS IF YOUR VEHICLE IS OLDER THAN TEN YEARS AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL, THE DEALER MAY NOT FIX THE VEHICLE FOR FREE. REGARDLESS, YOU SHOULD STILL MAKE THE NECESSARY CHANGES OR CONTACT THE AUTOMAKER DIRECTLY AND LET THEM KNOW OF YOUR PREDICAMENT". MY PREDICAMENT IS I DO NOT WANT ANYTHING TO HAPPEN AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY THE COST TO REPLACE THE DASHBOARD. ALL I WANT IS FOR THEM TO REALIZE THAT MY DEFECT FOR THE RECALL DID NOT SHOW UNTIL LAST YEAR. I GET MY CAR SERVICE EVERY YEAR AND THERE WAS NO VISIBLE DEFECT ON THE DASHBOARD.
DASHBOARD IS "MELTING", STICKY AND SHINING, WHICH CAUSES PROBLEMS WITH VISIBILITY THROUGH WINDSHIELD. (SAFETY CONCERNS) I AM ALSO CONCERNED WITH TOXIC GASSES PRODUCED FROM THE BREAKDOWN OF THE MATERIALS IN THE CAR. CONTACTED TOYOTA ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY NO LONGER REPLACE THE DASHBOARD FREE OF CHARGE. WILL BE CHARGED APPROXIMATELY $2,000 FOR REPLACEMENT. THIS CAR HAS BEEN KEPT IN A GARAGE MOST OF THE TIME, NOT IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT.

AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE BECAME LODGED UNDERNEATH THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER AND NECK, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED, TOWED TO A TOWING FACILITY, AND LATER TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. A LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
AT 45,000 MILES, COIL FAILED. AT 45,100 MILES, A SECOND COIL FAILED.
THE HEATING ELEMENT ON THE PASSANGER SIDE MIRROR OVERHEATED "COOKING" THE GLASS ON THE MIRROR (ADDING A SMOKY DARK GRAY CAST) THAT REDUCES VISIBILITY ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT.
ELECTRIC REAR WINDOW SUN SCREEN IS STUCK IN THE UP POSITION. THIS REDUCES VISIBILITY ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. WHEN VEHICLE IS PLACE INTO REVERSE THE MOTOR TRIES TO LOWER THE SHADE BUT FAILS. I HAVE SEEN MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE EDMUNDS FORUM. SINCE THE AVERAGE AVALON OWNER IS 65 YEARS OF AGE THE REDUCED VISIBILITY AT NIGHT IS GREATER RISK DUE TO THE REDUCED NIGHT VISION BASED ON THE OWNERS AGE.

MY DRIVERS SEATBELT DID NOT WORK.
ANOTHER DRIVER LOST CONTROL WHILE DRIVING WEST ON ICY ROADS AND HIT ME, I WAS DRIVING EAST ON NE LOMBARD..IN RESULTS OF MY TOYOTA AVALON BEING DEAMED TOTALED. DEALERSHIP IS OUT OF BUSINESS AND OWES THE BANK $454.10 FOR WARRANTY REFUND.
DASH BOARD IS CRACKING
WHILE SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT, I HEARD A TREMENDOUS, SHARP NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. I THOUGHT THE CAR HAD BEEN HIT WITH A ROCK OR HARD BALL, BUT NOBODY IN THE CARS AROUND ME SEEMED TO HAVE ANY CONCERN OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF SOMETHING HAVING HIT MY CAR. UPON PULLING OVER AND OPENING THE TRUNK, I REALIZED THE TRUNK HAD NO COUNTERBALANCE AND WOULD NOT POP OPEN OR STAY OPENED ONCE MANUALLY LIFTED, CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH THE TRUNK, WITHOUT BEING HELD OPEN, WILL SLAM SHUT WITH TREMENDOUS FORCE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO TWO SEPARATE SHOPS AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE TORSION BAR RIPPED THROUGH/OUT OF THE BRACKETS HOLDING IT ONTO THE TRUNK STRUCTURE. THE REPAIRS WILL REQUIRE WELDING INSIDE THE TRUNK--A VERY EXPENSIVE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS REPAIR. THE BRACKETS WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED AND REPLACED. BOTH SHOPS EXPRESSED THAT THIS APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN A DESIGN FLAW AND THAT IT REALLY SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED IF THE TRUNK HAD BEEN PROPERLY DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED WITH SUFFICIENTLY STRONG PARTS.
HAD TO REPLACE ENTIRE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA AVALON. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, AN ABNORMAL SOUND EMITTED UNDER THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNT BOAT DETACHED AND FRACTURED THE ENGINE'S AXLE. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNT BOAT NEEDED TO BE REMOVED FROM THE ENGINE AND THE ENGINE'S AXLES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
The vehicles whole dash and lower part of dash has cracked everywhere. It’s gotten a sticky film on it which makes a glare on my windshield. Makes it difficult to see. If you are driving towards the sun it makes it very dangerous when you can’t see ahead of you.
WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, IN REVERSE, THE CAR SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING ACCELERATED AT A HIGH RATE ON IT'S OWN WITHOUT DEPRESSION OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. BRAKES WERE APPLIED AT FULL FORCE DURING THE ACCELERATION WITH OUT EFFECT. VEHICLE CONTINUED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, CROSSING OVER THE STREET, THEN JUMPED THE OPPOSING CURB, STRIKING A STONE WALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2006 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A CEMENT BARRIER. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.

THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V499000 (SERVICE BRAKES,HYDRAULIC). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 48,000.
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP THE VEHICLE WILL SOMETIMES MOVE ABOUT 10 FEET AND THEN HESITATE FOR ABOUT 1 TO 2 SECONDS. IT WILL THEN ACCELERATE NORMALLY. WHEN DRIVING IN HEAVY CONDITIONS AT SPEEDS UNDER 35 THE CAR HESISTATES BADLY WHEN YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE AND THEN "JUMPS" FORWARD. SAME THING HAPPENS ON THE DOWNSIDE TO THE POINT THAT IT FEELS LIKE ITS GOING TO STALL. THE SERVICE ADVISOR ALSO SAID THERE HAD BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CONDITION. THIS CONDITION IS DANGEROUS AND NOT NORMAL.

THE VEHICLE FLIPPED FOUR TIMES AND LANDED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS HAD NOT DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK, BACK, AND LEG. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT EAR THAT DETACHED FROM THE HEAD, INJURIES TO THE NECK, AND A CONCUSSION. BOTH OCCUPANTS REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE LOT AWAITING AN INSURANCE APPRAISAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000.

MY DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT FOR MY AIRBAG HAS BECOME ILLUMINATED ALL OF THE TIME. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS CAR, 161,000 MILES ON ODOMETER. DEALER WANTS $75 TO "CHECK OUT" THE WARNING LIGHT. I DON'T BELIEVE I SHOULD BE CHARGED ANY AMOUNT TO CHECK THE VEHICLE'S SAFETY SYSTEM. I AM CONCERNED THAT I HAVE A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG SYSTEM, POSSIBLY MANUFACTURED BY TAKATA. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA AVALON. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, A LOUD THUMPING NOISE WAS HEARD IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT OPENED THE TRUNK AND FOUND THAT THE TORSION BAR WAS DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORSION BAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT A REPAIR WOULD BE DONE; HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT CONSIDERED A RECALL REPAIR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
HEAD GASKET LEAKS BOTH SIDES. UNDER REPAIR. POOR DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING. SHOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED AT THIS MILEAGE LEVEL. MY REPAIR SERVICE INDICATED THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL TOYOTA PRODUCTS. CONCERN FOR ACCIDENT POTENTIAL SHOULD HEAD GASKET BLOW AT HIGH SPEED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHERE CONDITIONS DO NOT ALLOW FOR A SAFE EXIT FROM TRAVEL LANES TO SHOULDER. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ABOUT TO COME TO A FULL STOP THE BRAKE FEELS LIKE IT PUSH BACK TOWARDS ME. IT ALMOST FEEL LIKE THE CAR IS NOT GOING TO STOP. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE MECHANIC OBSERVE THE SAME ISSUE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE.
ON APRIL 17, 2012 BAYSIDE TOYOTA REPLACED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER SEAL ON THE AVALON UNDER RECALL# 10V499000. ALMOST EXACTLY 3 YEARS LATER ON APRIL 18, 2015 THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER SEAL FAILED AS I WAS BACKING THE CAR OUT OF MY GARAGE. I WAS ABLE TO USE MY PARKING BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT ALTHOUGH THE ORIGINAL SEAL NEVER FAILED AFTER 6 YEARS OF SERVICE IT WAS REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY CONCERN. THE NEW SEAL FAILED AFTER 3 YEARS AND TOYOTA CLAIMS IT IS ONLY COVERED BY A 12 MONTH COMPONENT WARRANTY AND IS AN "INCONVENIENCE" BUT NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. TOYOTA GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER BUT SAID THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. HAD I BEEN DRIVING THE CAR AT FULL SPEED THE RESULTS WOULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. I AM HAVING THE CAR REPAIRED AT MY OWN COST BUT I HAVE NO FAITH THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS SAFE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
STARTED CAR AND SMOKE BEGAN POURING FROM THE EXHAUST WHILE STATIONARY. CHECKED OIL LEVEL AND FOUND TO BE WITHIN NORMAL RANGE. WHEN DRIVING, CAR WAS SLUGGISH UNDER ACCELERATION WITH INTERMITTENT SMOKE. TOOK CAR TO SAN MARCOS TOYOTA AND THEY FOUND THE ENGINE TO BE SLUDGED AND REQUIRE AN OVERHAUL OF THE ENGINE ($4900) OR REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE ($6900). THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 140,000 MILES. WE ENDED UP HAVING AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OVERHAUL/CLEANUP THE TOP SIDE OF ENGINE FOR $4000. I HAVE THE ESTIMATES AND RECEIPTS FOR THE WORK IF NEEDED. I HAVE RESEARCHED ON-LINE AND FOUND MANY OTHER AVALON OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT IN HOPE THAT TOYOTA WILL ACKNOWLEDGE THE POOR ENGINEERING OF THIS V6 ENGINE AND ISSUE A RECALL AND REIMBURSE THEIR CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCE THIS ENGINE FAILURE.

The contact owned a 2006 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the vehicle accelerated independently without warning. The contact heard an abnormal noise as he pressed on the brake pedal; the vehicle eventually came to a stop. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and resume normal driving operation. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer and was informed that a mechanical fault was found with the vehicle. The manufacturer was also informed of the failure and a complaint was filed. The contact continued to experience multiple failures after the vehicle was inspected. On the latest incident, the contact stated that he had entered a car wash on the left lane and attempted to enter the right lane by reversing the vehicle. Once the vehicle was placed into drive, the vehicle made an abnormal, squealing noise and independently accelerated without warning into a concrete wall. The airbags did not deploy upon impact. A police report was filed with Apex City, NC police department. The contact sought medical attention from his doctor for the soreness to his right hand and right knee. The contact had the vehicle initial towed to a dealer where it was deemed a total loss. The vehicle was then towed to an independent tow yard. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was 155,835

I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL GETTING A LUNG TRANSPLANT WHEN THE EXTENDED SERVICE LETTER CAME OUT OFFERING TO REPLACE IT. I DIDN'T DRIVE FOR TWO YEARS BECAUSE OF ILLNESS. WHEN I WENT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER HE SAID I MISSED THE DEADLINE BY A WEEK. HE SAID HE HAD THE PARTS AND WOULD LIKE TO DO IT BUT WOULD NEED AN OK FROM TOYOTA CORPORATE . I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO.
