[XXX] MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY LE FOUR DOOR AUTOMATIC SEDAN HAS INTERMITTENT ERRATIC PROBLEMS WITH THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL: THE ABS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON AND THE TACHOMETER, THERMOMETER AND OTHER GAUGES BOUNCE UP AND DOWN THE EVENTS LAST FOR A FEW SECONDS TO TEN MINUTES, EPISODES OCCUR SPORADICALLY AND THE CAR CONTINUES TO DRIVE NORMALLY DURING THE EVENTS. I CALLED TOYOTA (800) 331-4331 AND ASKED FOR A WARRANTY EXTENSION TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM, DENIED BY TOYOTA. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. ON JULY 1, 2015, CENTRAL FLORIDA TOYOTA IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA TRIED TO CHARGE ME $59.00, I REFUSED TO PAY AND THEY EVENTUALLY PROCEEDED TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM WITHOUT CHARGE. THE REPAIR ESTIMATE GIVEN TO ME SAYS, "$2,217.05 FOR ABS ACTUATOR ASSY., R&R.? THE MECHANIC SAID THIS IS SERIOUS; THE BRAKES CAN LOCK UP WHILE I AM DRIVING. THERE ARE NUMEROUS IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET BUT TOYOTA CORPORATE SAID THIS PROBLEM IS NOT SUBJECT TO A RECALL OR A REPORTED PROBLEM. (JUST GOOGLE, "2007 TOYOTA CAMRY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT ON". CONSUMER COMPLAINANTS ALLEGE THAT THE BOSCH ABS ECU HAS A FLAW IN CIRCUIT BOARD DESIGN.) TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WAS ACTIVATED. THE WINDOW OPENED HALFWAY AND FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V491000 (VISIBILITY). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A POPPING SOUND EMITTED FROM THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR AREA. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE INTERNAL CONNECTING BAR FRACTURED. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT BOTH SUN VISORS FAILED TO GO UP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE VISORS FRACTURED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR SEPARATED ENTIRELY WHILE THE PASSENGER SIDE VISOR FAILED TO REMAIN IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,900.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR FELL DOWN AND HAD TO BE REMOVED BECAUSE IT WAS OBSTRUCTING MY VIEW. I WAS NOT DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND NO ONE WAS IN MY VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. WHILE REVERSING WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND AND SUDDENLY JERKED TO A HALT WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS RELEASED, THE VEHICLE WOULD INDEPENDENTLY BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THE BRAKE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V285000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
CAR HAS FOR SOME TIMES BEEN MAKING CLUNKING, KNOCKING NOISE FROM STEERING . CAR WAS INSPECTED BY MY MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT MUST BE REPLACED, CALLED TOYOTA & WAS TOLD NO COVERAGE TO COVER THE REPAIR.
SUDDENLY NO POWER BRAKES. VERY LOW BRAKE FLUID. RESERVOIR APPEARED EMPTY. POWER BRAKE BOOSTER HAD FAILED. REPLACEMENT PARTS HARD TO FIND AND EXPENSIVE.
I AM CONTACTING YOU TO REPORT THE ISSUE I AM HAVING WITH MY TOYOTA CAMRY. I HAD TO SPEND ~$2,500 TO REPLACE ALL FOUR STRUTS WITH ONLY 36,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON A WELL MAINTAINED CAR (I FOLLOW THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE REGULARLY) AT SUCH A LOW MILEAGE. THIS ISSUE CAN MAKE DRIVING HAZARDOUS SINCE IT WILL IMPACT BREAKS AND TRACTION. I HAD THE MAINTENANCE DONE IN NOV 2014 AT MY REGULAR DEALERSHIP IN GREEN BROOK, NJ AND ALSO GOT THE CAR INSPECTED FOR NY REGISTRATION RENEWAL IN MARCH 2015. BOTH ASSESSMENTS REPORTED THAT EVERYTHING WAS OK WITH THE CAR. HOWEVER, DURING MY VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON JULY 3RD 2015, I WAS TOLD THAT I NEED TO REPLACE ALL FOURS STRUTS, A TOTAL COST OF ~$2500. I HAVE DRIVEN ONLY ~ 2,000 MILES BETWEEN MY TWO VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS COMPLETELY STOCKED TO HEAR THIS. WHEN I RESEARCHED ONLINE, I SAW SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT STRUT ISSUE AT LOW MILEAGE WITH 2007 CAMRY. AND IT IS NOT A NORMAL SITUATION FOR STRUTS TO LEAK AT SUCH A LOW MILEAGE. BEING A RESPONSIBLE DRIVER, I HAVE GOTTEN ALL THE REPAIRS DONE. HOWEVER, THIS APPEARS TO AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL AND NOT JUST MY CAR. AND POTENTIALLY DEFECTIVE MODEL/PART. I AM HOPING THAT YOU WILL LOOK INTO THIS AND HELP IDENTIFY WHETHER TOYOTA SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS REPAIR/REPLACEMENT. NOT EVERY PERSON WITH THIS ISSUE WILL BE WILLING TO SPEND SUCH A HEFTY AMOUNT TO GET APPROPRIATE REPAIRS DONE IMMEDIATELY. AND MANY MAY NOT EVEN REALIZE THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN NOT JUST FOR THE OWNERS BUT ALSO OTHERS.
I WAS DRIVING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED AND WHILE DRIVING MY VISOR ON MY DRIVER SIDE SNAPPED OFF AND LANDED IN MY LAP. IT HAS TO COMPLETELY BE REPLACED. I HAVE ONLY USED THIS VISOR A FEW TIMES AS NEEDED FOR SUN GLAIRS.
THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND AC THE PANEL WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WILL GO OUT AND ACT LIKE THE CAR IS JUST IN START MODE. YOU CAN NOT TELL ANYTHING WHILE THIS HAPPENS. NOT IF YOUR CAR IS OVERHEATING NOT HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING. NOTHING YOUR INTRUMENT PANEL SHOULD TELL YOU WHILE YOUR DRIVING. THE AC STARTED ACTING UP AT THE SAME TIME. IT COMES IN AND OUT WITH COLD AIR LIKE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. WHEN GOOGLED TO SEE HOW TO FIX THIS... I CAN ACROSSED MANY OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT STARTED A WHILE BACK. I HAVE SPECIAL NEED CHILDREN SO MONEY IS TIGHT OR I WOULD HAVE FIXED IT BY NOW. THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING AND ONLY MOVING WHEN IT HAS TO BE USED. I USE A GPS FOR SPEED. I JUST LIVE THROUGH THE AC. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE AC PROBLEM IN ELETRIC LIKE THE PANEL. THE PICTURE ATTACHED IS WHAT IT SHOWS WHILE OUT 99% OF THE TIME.
TAKATA RECALL I HAVE TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD FIX IT AND GIVE ME A NEW MOTOR AFTER WAITING SIX MOUTHS THEY TOOK MY OLD MOTOR APART AND NEVER FIXED IT I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE MOTOR SITTING IN THE CAR. NOW I HAVE NO MOTOR AND I'M STILL PAYING ON THE CAR THE DEALERSHIP WON'T FIX IT AND THE CORPORATION WILL DO NOTHING EITHER I ONLY GOT TO DRIVE MY CAR FOR FOUR MONTHS OF HAVING IT. MY CAR WAS STILL RUNNING WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT WAS KNOCKING AND THEY LIED ABOUT DOING TEST ON IT AND MUCH MORE BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANYONE THAT KNEW HOW TO WORK ON IT . THIS WAS ROBERTS TOYOTA IN COLUMBIA TN THEY LIED TO ME AND NOW MY CARS MOTOR IS IN PEACES PLEASE HELP
AROUND 100,000 MILES I NOTICED MY CAMRY ENGINE WAS CONSUMING MORE OIL THAN IT DID PREVIOUSLY. NOW IT'S CONSUMING AROUND A QUART EVERY 1200 MILES.
The dashboard on the car has melted and caused reflection on the windshield impacting the visibility. I was unable to see the road due to the reflection caused by the melting and sticky dashboard on the windshield. My safety is at risk while driving due to the reflection and glare on the windshield. The smell from melting dashboard is also a concern for myself and family including the infant. The car is available for inspection and the concern can be reproduced.

I WAS TRYING TO BACK OUT OF AN EXTENDED PARKING AREA AT CHURCH, A GRASSY AREA WITH PEBBLES. SO, I WAS BACKING OUT VERY CAREFULLY SO AS NOT TO HIT THE ROW OF CARS PARKED BEHIND ME. SUDDENLY AS I WAS BACKING OUT, THE TOYOTA BEGAN TO MOVE BACKWARDS VERY FAST WITH A LOUD ROAR (RACECAR SOUND). WHILE IN A STATE OF TERROR I HAD TO WRESTLE THE TOYOTA AWAY FROM THE OTHER PARKED CARS AS MUCH AS I COULD AND KEEP TRYING TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULDN'T MOVE. THE TOYOTA STRUCK THE BACK OF A RED CAR THAT DRAGGED THROUGH THE DRIVER'S SIDE, FROM THE FRONT OF THE TOYOTA TO THE END OF THE TOYOTA. STILL WRESTLING WITH THE WHEEL OF THE TOYOTA, I ENDED UP SLAMMING BACKWARDS INTO AN 8FT. CHAIN LINK FENCE, ON THE CHURCH PROPERTY. MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE, AS THE TOYOTA SLAMS INTO THE FENCE. THE TOYOTA THEN STOPPED. BREAK AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL RETURNED TO WHAT FELT LIKE A NORMAL POSITION. I PULLED THE TOYOTA UP AND AWAY FROM THE FENCE AND OUT A BIT AWAY FROM THE ROW OF CARS, SO THAT I COULD GET OUT OF THE TOYOTA. I THEN ASKED THE YOUNG MAN WHO WATCHED IT ALL, IF HE WOULD GO GET THE OWNER OF THE CAR I HAD DAMAGED.

THE TOYOTA STRUCK A RED CAR THAT DRAGGED THROUGH THE DRIVER'S SIDE, FROM THE FRONT OF THE TOYOTA TO THE END OF THE TOYOTA. I HAVE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A SEVERE OIL LOSS IN MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH 97000 MILES. I HAVE ALWAYS COMPLETED TIMELY SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES AND NEVER HAVE HAD AN ISSUE UNTIL TWO WEEKS AGO. THE FIRESTONE DEALER WHERE I HAVE MY VEHICLE SERVICED DETERMINED I HAD A SEVERE OIL LOSS AND CAN'T LOCATE WHERE MY OIL LEAK IS ORIGINATING FROM. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED TOYOTA HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THE LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE DEALER HAS NOT RETURNED MY CALLS. IN ADDITION THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED IN SPRING 2014 FOR THIS ISSUE WITH NUMEROUS TOYOTA MODELS.
I WAS GOING TO WORK WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE SUNVISOR FLOPPED DOWN AND I HAD TO MOVE IT TO THE SIDE SO THAT I COULD SEE. THERE WAS NEVER ANY PROBLEM BEFORE NOW. SO FAR THE PASSENGER VISOR STAYS IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION. I WILL BE CALLING THE DEALER TOMORROW AS I HAVE AN OIL CHANGE SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY.
I WAS DOING ABOUT 55 ON THE BELTWAY ON 6/23/15. I WENT TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR AS THE TRAFFIC WAS BEGINNING TO BACK UP. THE BRAKES FAILED AND I WAS ABLE TO STEER ONTO THE SHOULDER AND LET IT COAST UNTIL FINALLY THE BRAKES STARTED TO WORK AGAIN.

I WAS IN THE SLOW LANE AND MY CAR SUDDENLY AND VIOLENTLY TURNED TO THE LEFT, CAUSING THE CAR TO HIT A LARGE RV IN THE CENTER LANE. THE CAR CONTINUE SPINNING ACROSS THE FAST LANE (IT'S AMAZING NO CARS WERE IN THAT LANE BECAUSE TRAFFIC WAS FAIRLY HEAVY). THE BACK END OF MY CAR HIT THE CENTER CEMENT BARRIER HARD (CAR TOTALED) AND I CAME TO A STOP ON THE INSIDE SHOULDER FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF WHERE I WAS ORIGINALLY TRAVELING. THE AIRBAG DID NOT GO OFF AND THE LOCKING PART OF THE SEATBELT DIDN'T SEEM TO WORK. I COULD HAVE BEEN EASILY KILLED OR KILLED SOMEONE ELSE. I WILL CONTACT TOYOTA. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS.
I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER (MORRISTOWN TOYOTA ON JUN 20,2015) TO CHECK WHY THE LIGHT ENGINE IS ON. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS ' TECH SCANNED FOR CODES AND FOUND PO137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW BANK 1 SENSOR 2' NOT SURE IF THIS IS NORMAL TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM FOR A CAR LIKE CAMRY. BESIDES, IT HAS SEVERAL OTHER PROBLEMS SINCE I BOUGHT. I HAVE WARRANTY AT THAT TIME, ALL THOSE WERE COVERED. I AM REALLY CONCERN THE QUALITY OF THIS MANUFACTURER. I AM BRINGING THIS ISSUE HERE TO SEE IF THIS IS A REAL ISSUE OR NOT AND OTHER SHOULD BE CONCERN ABOUT THIS.
THE TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID SHOWS THE "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" MESSAGE ON THE DASHBOARD WITH THE BRAKE, HAZARD, WARNING, AND ABS LIGHTS. UPON RESEARCH IT SEEMS LIKE A KNOWN TOYOTA ISSUE WITH THEIR FAULTY ABS ACCUMULATOR. THE REPLACEMENT COST IS A STAGGERING $2500+ QUOTED BY THE DEALERS. WITHOUT REPLACING IT AFFECTS THE BRAKE SYSTEMS. THERE IS PULSATING IN THE BRAKES. THERE IS ALSO WATER PUMP LEAK ASSOCIATED WITH THIS. THIS SHOULD BE HANDLED BY TOYOTA WITH A RECALL. THERE ARE LOTS OF REPORTING FOR THIS SAME ISSUE AND FIXING THIS ISSUE IS SO COSTLY AND FOR A KNOW FAILED/FAULY COMPONENT.
MY CAR WAS BURNING MORE THAN 5 QUARTS IN LESS THAN 3K MILES BUT AFTER LONG TIME FINALLY TOYOTA HAS FIXED THE ISSUE. BUT THIS WAS HAPPENING FOR ME FROM 45K MILES ON MY CAR AROUND 2009 UNTIL NOW. MEAN WHILE SINCE THE ENGINE WAS BURNING WHICH CAUSED MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO BLOW OFF. THEY SHOULD REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TOO BECAUSE THIS IS CAUSED BY THE ENGINE OIL BURNING IN THE COMBUSTION CAMBER. FEW YEARS BACK THEY FIXED MY POWER WINDOW ON THE DRIVER SIDE BUT LAST 12- 18 MONTHS I AM EXPERIENCING AN ISSUE SOME TIMES THE WINDOW OPENS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BUT MOST OF THE TIME PASSENGER WOULD TRY TO OPEN BUT IT WONT OPEN. I BELIEVE ITS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WHICH MAY HAVE HAPPENED AFTER THEY FIXED ON THE DRIVER SIDE. IF ANY ACCIDENT HAPPENS THEN THE PASSENGER WONT BE ABLE TO GET OUT WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS ITS AN SAFETY ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GALAXY TOYOTA (LOCATED AT 750 NJ-36, EATONTOWN, NJ 07724, (732) 544-1000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS ACTIVATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 167,000.

MY SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING, ABS BRAKE LIGHT STAYS ON, ODOMETER METER DANCES, AND AIR CONDITIONING POPS ON AND OFF, ALL OCCURRED AT THE SAME TIME. IT STARTED HAPPENING WHEN I REPLACED MY REAR BREAKS. I AM TRYING TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. I SEE SO MANY COMPLAINS ON ELECTRICAL STUFF. OVER TIME, MY DASHBOARD HAS MELTED AND HAS BECOME STICKY. I HAVE TRIED MY BEST TO DEAL WITH IT, BUT IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. IT CAUSES A REFLECTION OF MY DASHBOARD ON MY DRIVER'S WINDOW, MAKING IT HARD TO SEE WHEN I AM DRIVING (ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS SUNNY...AND I LIVE IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA...WHERE THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME IT IS SUNNY.) I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY CLAIM TO HAVE SENT OUT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE. THEY CLAIM THEY CAN'T FIX IT ANYMORE BECAUSE OF AN EXPIRED WARRANTY (WHICH I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF...IF I WAS, I WOULD'VE FIXED IT ASAP). IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE DUE TO THEIR FAULTY MANUFACTURING.

INITIALLY THOUGHT SOMEONE MAY HAVE SPILLED SOMETHING BUT NOTICED ENTIRE DASH WAS THE SAME FROM LEFT TO RIGHT HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT THIS WAS A MORE COMMON PROBLEM AND MAY AFFECT PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG UNDERSTAND TOYOTA DID NOT ISSUE A RECALL BUT DID FIX THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE DASH IF CUSTOMERS COMPLAINED CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO? I CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL ME BACK AFTER 1-2 DAYS. THEY HAVE NEVER CALLED BACK
THE HYBRID BATTERY OVERHEATED ACCORDING THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT OTHER HYBRID BATTERIES HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BECAUSE OF A DEFECTIVE FILTER AT THE FRONT OF THE CAR, WHICH ALLOWS DEBRIS AND DIRT TO GET INTO THE COMPARTMENT THAT HOUSES THE HYBRID BATTERY. IT IS A $3,900 COST TO REPLACE THE HYDRID BATTERY SINCE IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY WITH 200,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT TOYOTA HAD MODIFIED THE NEW FILTER TO STOP THE DEBRIS AND OVERHEATING PROBLEM, AND THAT THE NEW FILTER WOULD NOT ALLOW DEBRIS IN. SINCE TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF THE FILTER ALLOWING DEBRIS INTO THE HYDRID BATTERY DEPARTMENT, AND MODIFIED THE NEW FILTER TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM WHY WAS I NOT NOTIFIED TO REPLACE THE FILTER BEFORE IT ALLOWED THE BATTERY TO OVERHEAT THE HYBRID BATTERY TO BE DESTROYED?

THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FRONT FILTER ALLOWS DIRT INTO THE HYBRID BATTERY COMPARTMENT, WHICH RESULTS IN THE OVERHEATING. IT IS A $3,900.00 COST TO REPLACE THE HYBRID BATTERY. THE MECHANIC ALSO STATES THAT THE NEW FILTER HAS BEEN MODIFIED IN ORDER TO NOT ALLOW THE DEBRIS TO GET INTO THE HYBRID BATTERY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
I WAS JUST LEAVING MY HOUSE AND APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. AS I ENGAGED TO BRAKES NOTHING HAPPENED AND OUT OF NOWHERE THE CAR MAKES A HARD STOP AND MY DASH LIGHTS UP WITH WARNING LIGHTS. INSTANTLY NOTHING ABOUT THIS CAR SEEMS SAFE!
THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP 3 YEARS AGO AND IT ONLY HAD 42,000 MILES. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DID NOT SHIFT PROPERLY AND WOULD JERK SUDDENLY AS IT SHIFTED IN LOWER GEARS. RECENTLY I WAS HEARING NOISE FROM THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHERE THE TRANSMISSION IS LOCATED. BROUGHT IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT ORIGINALLY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS THE WATER PUMP AND THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THE DIAGNOSIS DIDN'T SEEM RIGHT TO ME AND SUSPECTED MAYBE THE DEALER DIDN'T WANT TO ADMIT THAT THE TRANSMISSION THEY HAD REPLACED WAS HAVING PROBLEMS AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR A SECOND OPINION. THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING. KEEP IN MIND THAT THE CAR HAS NEVER LEAKED FLUID AND HAS NEVER OVERHEATED WHICH ARE SYMPTOMS OF WATER PUMP PROBLEMS. I DECIDED TO HAVE THEM CHANGE THE WATER PUMP SINCE TWO SEPARATE TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS WERE TELLING ME THIS WAS THE PROBLEM AND WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE NOISE. DROVE THE CAR HOME AND THE GRINDING NOISE WAS STILL THERE. I DECIDED TO GIVE IT SOME TIME AND MAYBE THE NOISE WOULD GO AWAY EVENTUALLY. TWO DAYS AFTER GETTING THE CAR WORKED ON THE NOISE GOT LOUDER. I DECIDED TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO HAVE THE DEALER CHECK IT AGAIN. ON MY WAY THERE, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP GEARS. IT GOT A POINT WHERE THE CAR COULD BARELY DRIVE 20 MILES/HR. MY TRANSMISSION WENT COMPLETELY OUT AT A BUSY INTERSECTION. THE TRANSMISSION IS BROKEN. WHAT REALLY FRUSTRATES ME IS THAT I HAVE ONLY PUT 23,000 MILES ON THE SECOND TRANSMISSION AND NOW IT IS GOING TO NEED A 3RD TRANSMISSION. MY SAFETY HAS BEEN AT RISK AND THE CAR NEVER GAVE ME A CHECK ENGINE WARNING. KEEP IN MIND I TOOK MY CAMRY TO 2 SEPARATE TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS AND THEY GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND WITH A DIAGNOSIS OF A PART THAT WAS NO WHERE NEAR WHERE I WAS HEARING THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM. TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL THEIR 6 SPEED TRANS
THE PRIMARY SAFETY CONCERNS REGARDING MY COMPLAINT ARE A MALFUNCTIONING SPEEDOMETER AND A MALFUNCTIONING ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM; HOWEVER, THERE ARE OTHERS, WHICH I WILL DESCRIBE. WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT COMPLETELY CRAZY. SPECIFICALLY, THE SPEEDOMETER WENT TO ZERO (AS I WAS DRIVING 40MPH) THE TACHOMETER STARTED BOUNCING UP AND DOWN BETWEEN 0 AND 2 OR 3, THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHT CAME ON. THEN, EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL BEFORE I COULD PULL OVER. I SOON REALIZED ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS LIKE THE TEMP GAUGE GOING LIMP AND THE AIR CONDITIONER BLOWING HOT AIR ALONG WITH OTHER THINGS. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED ALL TOGETHER BUT ON AND OFF AT RANDOM INTERVALS. I DID SOME RESEARCH, WHICH LED ME TO THE ABS ISSUE. ACCORDING TO OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM THE REPAIR IS $2K-$3K AND MANY HAD STORIES OF DEALERS MAKING VARIOUS COSTLY REPAIRS THAT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. I WORK FOR MINIMUM WAGE, THIS IS MY ONLY CAR, AND IT IS 110 DEGREES IN MY TOWN. DRIVING WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING HERE IS A SAFETY HAZARD. ONE PERSON SUGGESTED UNPLUGGING THE FAULTY ABS MODULE TO REGAIN AIR CONDITIONING. WHEN I DID THIS THE AIR CONDITIONING DID IN FACT START WORKING ALONG WITH THE TACHOMETER AND TEMP GAUGE. THE SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, AND SEAT BELT ALARM STILL DO NOT WORK. FURTHERMORE, THIS IS NO LONGER INTERMITTENT BUT CONSTANT AND THE BRAKE LIGHT, ABS LIGHT, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALL REMAIN ON. AN ABS MALFUNCTION COULD BE DISASTROUS IN WET WEATHER. THE LACK OF A SPEEDOMETER IS A SAFETY PROBLEM ON CITY ROADS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS AND NOT TO FORGET THE SEAT BELT ALARM OR THE ODOMETER, WHICH NO LONGER LOGS THE MILEAGE. MY 2007 CAMRY HAD LOW MILES FOR ITS AGE (<70K) WHEN THESE PROBLEMS FIRST OCCURRED; THE CAR HAS BEEN GARAGED AND WELL MAINTAINED. I HAVE READ MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM THOSE WITH THE VERY SAME PROBLEMS AND IT SEEMS LIKE A FAULTY PRODUCT IS TO BLAME.
