MY WIFE NEARLY CRASHED OUR 2007 TOYOTA SOLARA WHEN THE LEFT FRONT LOW BEAM LIGHT FAILED AT NIGHT AND THEN IN LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES THE RIGHT FRONT LIGHT LOW BEAM FAILED. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON A RURAL STRETCH OF I-85 IN NORTH CAROLINA. I HAD REPLACED THE RIGHT FRONT LIGHT ONLY THREE DAYS EARLIER. THE HIGH BEAMS CONTINUED TO WORK BUT THE NEXT DAY IN A TEST IN DAYLIGHT THE LOW BEAMS WORKED AND THEN FAILED AGAIN WITHIN FIVE MINUTES AND THE HIGH BEAMS ALSO FAILED WITHIN TWENTY (20) MINUTES. I HAVE SINCE READ THE ONLINE WEBSITE AUTO RECALLS FOR CONSUMERS (ARFC) THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM IN 2007 TOYOTA SOLARAS. TOYOTA IS RISKING DEATHS BY NOT ADDRESSING THIS PROBLEM. I CALLED TOYOTA (800-331-4331) BUT TOYOTA WAS [XXX] AND HAD HEARD NOTHING ABOUT NOTHING. THE REACTION WOULD BE HUMOROUS EXCEPT THAT IT HAPPENS WHILE PEOPLE ARE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED AND IT COULD KILL THEM, ESPECIALLY AT 70 MPH, THE LEGAL SPEED LIMIT ON I-85 IN RURAL NORTH CAROLINA. THE DASH ON MY 2007 CAMRY IS STICKY AND SOFT. IT CREATES A GLARE THAT AT TIMES MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE. IT ACCUMULATES DUST AND DIRT. I CONTACTED TOYOTA REGARDING ANY RECALL AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING. IN ADDITION BOTH VISORS HAVE FAILED WHICH ALSO APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR OF VEHICLE.
"CHECK VSC SYSTEM" . BRAKE SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY. MUST PUSH VERY HARD TO GET ANY BRAKING. THEN THE VSC WILL ENGAGE AND BRAKE VERY HARD. I EXPERIENCED THIS ONE WEEK AGO; MY WIFE EXPERIENCED IT THIS MORNING DROPPING OF THE KIDS TO SCHOOL. THE CAR HAS A VERY DANGEROUS JERKING ACTION AS THE BRAKES ENGAGE AND DISENGAGE BASED ON THE COMPUTER. *TR
I AM GOING THROUGH MY SECOND SET OF STRUTS IN 4000 MILES. CONTACTED TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THAT THE OIL FROM STRUTS SOMETIMES LEAKS. TO MY SURPRISE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO DEALS WITH STRUT PROBLEM ON 2007 CAMRYS. MANY PEOPLE IN BLOGS REPORT THAT THE STRUTS JUST GIVE UP AT 10000 MILES, 20000 MILES. MINE GAVE UP AT 4000, I JUST CHANGED THE WHOLE FRONT SET A WEEK AGO AND IT MAKES NOISE AGAIN!!! I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW SUCH POOR QUALITY PARTS ARE ALLOWED TO BE INSTALLED ON VEHICLES SOLD ON US MARKET. *JS
STARTED CAR AND THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS STAYED ON AND DID NOT GO OFF. THEN WHILE DRIVING TO MY DAUGHTERS SCHOOL, AND THE SHOP I WAS GOING TO TAKE THE CAR TO, MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I PICKED UP MY DAUGHTER THEN WENT TO THE SHOP AND HAD VEHICLE CHECKED. THERE WERE HAD 5 CODES THAT COME UP. THEN WENT OUT WITH THE MECHANIC TO SEE IF THE SPEEDOMETER WAS WORKING AS HE ASKED IF I NOTICED IF IT WAS OR WAS NOT WORKING. WE TOOK CAR FOR A QUICK DRIVE TO SEE HOW CAR WAS DRIVING. THE FIRST THING I NOTICED WAS THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT MOVING FROM ZERO. THE LIGHTS ALL STAYED ON AND THE BRAKES WERE WORKING. THE RPM GAUGE WAS STILL GOING UP AND DOWN. I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO DO ANY FIXING AS OF YET SO I DECIDED TO BRING THE CAR HOME AND PARK IT UNTIL I CAN GET IT FIXED AS MY MECHANIC SAID IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. AFTER THIS I DID SOME RESEARCH ON LINE AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY AND THAT THE HYBRID MODEL HAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT AS OF YET THEY HAVE NOT RECALLED THE 4 CYL OR THE 6 CYL WHICH IS NOT RIGHT AS THE CODES ARE THE SAME AND THE ISSUES ARE THE SAME. THE RIGHT THING TO DO WOULD BE TO RECALL ALL 2007 MODELS BEFORE THIS ISSUE CAUSES A FATAL CAR ACCIDENT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR LOST ALL BRAKING CAPABILITIES WITH "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" MESSAGE ON INSTRUMENT PANEL, ABS LIGHT, PARKING BRAKE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, ENGINE LIGHT, WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL CAR OFF OF THE ROAD AND INTO A PARKING LOT. I WAITED SEVERAL HOURS AND TRIED AGAIN TO START THE CAR TO TAKE TO TOYOTA FOR SERVICE. THE CAR RAN JUST FINE DRIVING TO TOYOTA AND NOW THEY ARE REFUSING TO FIX BECAUSE IT WILL NOT REPEAT THE ISSUE. I TOLD THEM OF WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM ZE1 WHICH INDICATES THE PROBLEM WITH THE CAR, THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO FIX STILL. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT WILL KILL SOMEONE EVENTUALLY. IF I AM IN AN ACCIDENT CAUSED BY THIS ISSUE WITH TOYOTA NOT WILLING TO FIX, I WILL BE FILING LAWSUIT. GOD HELP ME BECAUSE I HAVE TWO SMALL KIDS THAT RIDE IN MY CAR OFTEN. *TR

MY WINDSHIELD HAS BEEN DEFECTIVE SINCE LAST YEAR I CONTACTED THE DEALER THEY HAVE BEEN GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND, THEY KEEP TELLING ME THEY ARE ON BACK ORDER. I HAVE KIDS WHEN IT S HOT IT'S SO STICKY IT REALLY DRIVING MY KIDS CRAZY AND MY KIDS ARE ALLERGY TO IT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 12V491000 (VISIBILITY) AND 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE PARTS NEEDED FOR THE REPAIR WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 192,000.
DASHBOARD PEELING AND STICKING...AIRBAGS ON PASSENGER SIDE. *JS
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED TO ENGAGE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP. THE DRIVER HAD TO SHIFT GEARS INTO REVERSE AND NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO REDUCE SPEED. ALSO, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MERGE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL FUNCTIONED. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR WAS REPLACED UNDER A MANUFACTURER CAMPAIGN. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR GOING TO WORK I WAS GOING 30 MPH WHEN WITH OUT ANY EXPLANATION A BRAKE RED WARNING LIGHT POP UP IN THE SCREEN ON MY 2007 TOYOTA HYBRID I TRY TO PUT THE BRAKES AND THEY WERE NOT WORKING I BEGGING TO PANIC THANKS GOD I DO NOT ENTER THE HIGHWAY AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO A MECHANIC SHOP THAT WAS VERY CLOSED. THE MECHANIC CHECK THE BRAKES IN THE CAR AND EVERY LOOKS GOOD HE SAID I TOLD HIM WHAT ARE YOU TAKING ABOUT THE BRAKES WHERE NOT WORKING I EXPLAIN AND THEN I REMEMBER A COUPLE WEEKS AGO I GOT A RECALL IN THE MAIL AND GIVE TO MECHANIC AND HE EXPLAIN TO ME THAT I HAVE TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER RIGHT AWAY. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR I CONTACT THE TOYOTA HEAD QUARTERS AND THEY SAID THEY WILL FIXED FOR FREE THE REAL ISSUE HERE IS MANY OF THIS CARS IN THE ROADS WE DRIVE ALL CHILDREN IN THESE CARS. THEY RECALL SHOULD SAY TAKE YOU CAR TO THE DEALER RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE YOU CAN INJURED YOURSELF O SOMEBODY MANY LIVES WILL BE SAFE IN THIS COMPANIES BUILT THEIR CARS PAYING MORE ATTENTION SPECIALLY TO THE BRAKES. THE ABS AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED OR DIAGNOSED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

THE DEALER (LUSTINE TOYOTA, 14227 JEFFERSON DAVIS HWY, WOODBRIDGE, VA 22191, (703) 494-1800) INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH TOYOTA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IAN'S THE BRAKES FAILED TO APPLY NO PRESSURE. EMERGENCY LIGHTS TURN ONWAIT ABOUT 10 MINUTES THERE AND TURN THE CAR BACK ON AND IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN. CALL MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER SAID IT WILL COST 1500 DOLLARS TO FIX . DON'T KNOW IF THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR
WHEN I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE I NOTICED WHEN I GET TO A CERTAIN SPEED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT START TO FLASH UNTIL I SLOW DOWN OR THE VEHICLE WON'T MOVE UNTIL I PARK IT TURN IT OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON. SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME I NEED A NEW ENGINE. *TR
THE ENGINE ON THIS CAR HAVE CONSUMPTION TWO QUARTS OIL EVERY TWO THOUSAND MILES. AND DON'T HAVE ANY LEAKS. *TR
CAR IS BURNING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL, HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CHECK AND FILL THE OIL. ITS GETTING TO THE POINT THAT I AM HAVING TO CHECK AND FILL WITH OIL ONCE A WEEK. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT IS GOING TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS????
SUDDENLY,THE CHECK VSC SYSTEM WENT ON FOR NO REASON.I BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA IS TO BLAME FOR THE CONDITION BECAUSE THE CAR IS FAILING PREMATURELY.TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL THE 2007 CAMRY HYBRID IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE THIS CAN CAUSE DANGER TO THE OCCUPANTS IN THE CAR AS WELL AS PEDESTRIANS ALIKE. *TR
UPON ENTERING MY VEHICLE I FOUND THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT WAS LOCKED AND UNABLE TO RETRACT OR BE PULLED FORWARD. I CONTACTED A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, CHICAGO NORTHSIDE TOYOTA, AND MADE A SERVICE APPT FOR THAT AFTERNOON. SHORTLY BEFORE ARRIVING AT THE DEALERSHIP THE SEAT BELT SUDDENLY UNLOCKED AND WAS MOVABLE AGAIN. UPON INSPECTION, THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS FRAYING ON THE SEAT BELT, AND THAT WAS THE CAUSE FOR THE INABILITY FOR THE SEATBELT TO RETRACT OR MOVE. NONE OF THIS FRAYING HE REFERRED TO IS VISIBLE TO ME, SO I PRESUME IT IS HIDDEN INSIDE THE PANEL WHICH COVERS THE SEAT BELT MECHANISM. I PRESUME THIS WAS CAUSED BY AN INTERNAL MECHANISM AND I SUSPECT IS A DESIGN DEFECT. TOYOTA WILL NOT HONOR ANY WARRANTY FOR SEAT BELT REPLACEMENT AFTER 5 YRS OR 50,000 MILES, WHICH NO LONGER APPLIES TO MY VEHICLE, AND IS CHARGING ME $453 TO REPLACE THE SEAT BELT AS A RESULT OF WHAT I BELIEVE IS A DEFECT FOR AN ESSENTIAL SAFETY RESTRAINT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. *TR
CURRENTLY I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT COMING ON AND MY MODULE NOT READING MY SPEED, TEMPERATURE, OR RPMS CORRECTLY OR AT ALL SOME TIMES. I SPOKE WITH A TECHNICIAN THAT I HAVE GOTTEN WORK DONE WITH BEFORE AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAD ANOTHER CUSTOMER WITH THE SAME YEAR SAME MODEL CALL IN AND THEIR CAR WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. WHILE THE PEOPLE AT MY INSURANCE COMPANY TOLD ME THAT IT MAY HAVE TO DO WITH THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE AND DISMISSED MY CLAIM. HE TOLD ME THAT THE ONLY WAY THEY WOULD KNOW IS IF THEY COULD DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE AGAIN. BUT THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE EXPENSIVE AND I'M STARTING TO THINK IT MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
STICKY DASHBOARD - I'VE BEEN TOLD BY A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP AT TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER (NATIONAL) TO NOT DRIVE MY CAMRY IF THE DASHBOARD CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD DO TO THE GLARE. SO ONE YEAR LATER, TOYOTA STILL HASN'T REPLACED THE DASHBOARD... 24 MONTHS AFTER THEY ANNOUNCED THE EXTENSION ON THE WARRANTY... HELP
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 30 MILES AN HOUR AND APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AND SUDDENLY, ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS COME ON, THE BRAKES STOPPED FUNCTIONING. I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR BRIEFLY BUT WAS ABLE TO REGAIN IT AND WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO BRING IT TO A STOP. *TR
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION IS A PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE USES THREE QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN 5,000 MILE SERVICE. TWO OIL CONSUMPTIONS TESTS WERE DONE. TOYOTA STATED NOT ELIGIBLE FOR WARRANTY. ....UPDATED 11/18/15 *BF ON MY THIRD OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WHICH I HAD TO PAY FOR, IT HAD A POSITIVE RESULT. TOYOTA IS GOING TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR BECAUSE IT QUALIFIES. MAINLY BECAUSE IT USES 4 QUARTS OF OIL NOW BETWEEN CHANGES EVERY 5000 MILES NOW. THANKS JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW WHAT THE DEAL IS NOW. WHEN I BROUGHT IN MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA CONVERTIBLE FOR A FAULTY LOW TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR, ANOTHER PROBLEM WAS DETECTED. I ASKED TO SEE THE ISSUE WHILE THE CAR WAS UP ON THE LIFT. I COULD OBSERVE WHAT LOOKED LIKE A SHREDDING/DAMAGED RACK AND PINION POWER STEERING BOOT WITH FLUID VISIBLE. THE FIRST DEALER WRITTEN ESTIMATE SAYS "REPLACE POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION (FOUND POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING INTO BOOT OF RACK AND PINION)" FOR $1354.88, PLUS 4-WHEEL ALIGNMENT FOR $160.95. THE SECOND DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDED REPLACING ONE RACK AND PINION BOOT AND THAT POWER STEERING FLUID GASKET, FOR $594.58 PLUS A $99 ALIGNMENT, WHICH I DID. THE DEALER CHECKED AND THERE HAS NOT YET BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT I CHECKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME/SIMILAR ISSUE. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY POWER STEERING SYSTEM, WHETHER THE OTHER GASKET WILL LEAK OR THE SYSTEM FAIL WHILE DRIVING.
THIS CAR HAS BURNED A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES FOR THE PAST SEVEN YEARS. RECENTLY RECEIVED A TSB FROM TOYOTA ON THIS ISSUE AND AS INSTRUCTED, TOOK IT INTO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. I WAS SHOCKED TO LEARN FROM THEIR STAFF THAT TOYOTA WAS CONSIDERING REPLACING MY ENGINE IF IT DID INDEED BURN A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. I MEAN COME ON---THE CAR HAS 180K MILES ON IT. NEVER THE LESS, I WAS IMPRESSED WITH THE IDEA. THEY "SEALED" THE OIL CAP SO NO ONE COULD TAMPER WITH THE OIL LEVEL. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD TOPPED OFF THE OIL LEVEL. I PUT ANOTHER 1200 MILES ON IT AND RETURNED THE CAR AS INSTRUCTED, TO ALLOW THEM TO "PERFORM A DETAILED TEST TO DETERMINE IF THE ENGINE WAS CONSUMING A QUART EVERY 1000 MILES. I CHECKED THE OIL DIPSTICK THE MORNING I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO TOYOTA. IT WAS A FULL QUART LOW ON OIL. INTERESTING, BUT TOYOTA PERFORMED THEIR TEST AND ADVISED THEY WOULD CONTACT ME. DID NOT HAPPEN. A MONTH LATER I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THE CA HAD BURNED 7/8 OF A QUART AND AS IT WAS LESS THAN A QUART, I WAS BASICALLY SOL. ALL SAID AND DONE, I WAS NOT EXPECTING A NEW ENGINE. I WAS EXPECTING TO LEAVE FEELING I HAD BEEN TREATED FAIRLY AND PROFESSIONALLY. THE DASHBOARD IS LITERALLY MELTING AWAY.THERE IS A HORRIBLE STICKY, GOOEY SUBSTANCE THAT IS OOZING OUT OF THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD.YOU CANNOT TOUCH OR CLEAN IT, AND WHEN DRIVING IN THE DIRECT SUN, IT CREATES SUCH A REFLECTION ON THE WINDOW THAT YOU CAN HARDLY SEE. I HAVE APPROACHED TOYOTA ON THIS ISSUE SEVERAL TIMES, ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS AND THAT THE REASON THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING IS BECAUSE I LIVE IN TEXAS AUSTIN. *TR

I WAS DRIVING THE CAMRY WHEN I REACHED A COMPLETE STOP MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, DIDN'T REALLY NOTICE ANY CHANGE, TWO DAYS LATER I NOTICE GAS CONSUMPTION HAS INCREASED. I TOOK THE CAMRY INTO DEALER, DEALER DIAGNOSED THE CHECK ENGINE TO BE A FAULTY O2 SENSOR. REPLACED O2 SENSOR AND DROVE OFF TO PICK UP MY KIDS FROM SCHOOL, AS WE ARE DRIVING HOME, I CAME TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT, I STOPPED AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT CAME ON IDLE WAS DISRUPTED BRIEFLY. I PROCEEDED AND WHEN TRYING TO STOP CAR THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD BECOME VERY TIGHT TO WERE I HAD TO STOMP ON BRAKES WITH ALL MY MIGHT TO GET CAR TO STOP. DROP KIDS OFF AT HOME WAITED 15 MINUTES AND STARTED VEHICLE, ABS LIGHT WAS OFF BUT CHECK ENGINE REMAINED ON, BRAKE PEDAL WAS ALMOST BACK TO NORMAL. I DROVE CAR TO DEALER AGAIN, THE DEALER SAID IT IS A FAULTY BRAKE BOOSTER WHICH IS ALLOWING TOO MUCH AIR INTO SYSTEM WHICH IN RETURN SIGNALS FOR MORE FUEL TO BE PUMPED TO COMPENSATE VACUUM LEAK. BRAKE BOOSTER NOT COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, AND VERY COSTLY 1,363.16 PARTS, LABOR AND TAXES, NOT COUNTING THE 4 DAY RENTAL. THIS CONCERNS ME BECAUSE I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE, IF IT WERE MY WIFE DRIVING THE CAMRY WITH MY KIDS SHE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY WARNING. TOYOTA NEEDS TO MAKE THIS A SAFETY RECALL BEFORE SOMETHING TRAGIC HAPPENS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CHECK ENGINE AND OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHTS PREVIOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANI, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
THE ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT WORK EVEN WITH ACCELERATION. THE ENGINE IS ON BUT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD NOT WORK. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON LEVEL GROUND WITH THE FOOT LIGHTLY ON THE ACCELERATOR, A WARNING BELL AND VARIOUS WARNING LIGHTS WENT OFF (INCLUDING ABS AND CHECK VSC SYSTEM). WHEN I PUT ON THE BRAKES I HAD TO PUSH MUCH HARDER THAN USUAL IN ORDER TO SLOW THE VEHICLE. THESE CONDITIONS CONTINUED FOR THREE MILES, AT WHICH POINT THE WARNING SIGNALS DISCONTINUED AND THE BRAKING RETURNED TO NORMAL. BOTH AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER DID NOT FIND ERROR CODES OR IDENTIFY A CAUSE FOR WHAT I EXPERIENCED. THE DEALER INSTALLED A NEW BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR AS PART OF A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN. IT WOULD NOT, HOWEVER, INSTALL A NEW BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY OR BRAKE STROKE SENSOR AS PART OF THE ZE1 WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT SINCE IT DID NOT FIND ERROR CODES. TOYOTA'S NATIONAL CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER WOULD ALSO NOT AUTHORIZE THE REPLACEMENT OF THESE PARTS DUE TO A LACK OF ERROR CODES. SIX MONTHS AND 5000 MILES LATER THE PROBLEM HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL ABOUT 5MPH BECAUSE IT WAS SNOWING AND THERE WERE CARS INFRONT OF ME. I WAS SLOWLY PRESSING THE BRAKE AND THEN THE BRAKE PEDAL GOT STUCK AND I COULDN'T CONTROL THE BRAKE, THE WHEELS HAD LOCKED TO AND I KEPT ON SLIDING AND I WENT HEAD ON IN AN SUV. OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS, FREQUENTLY MY 2007 CAMRY DASHBOARD DISPLAYS ERRONEOUS INFORMATION - TACH, SPEEDOMETER AND TEMPERATURE GAGE READ ZERO AND BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS GO ON. CLEARLY THESE ARE SAFETY ISSUES. ALSO, THE AIR CONDITIONER GOES OFF AND THE AIR COMING OUT OF THE DUCTS GOES TO FULL HOT. DEALERSHIP INDICATES THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE AND THEREFORE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. I SEE MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB AND NOTICED THAT THE CAMRY HYBRID HAS A RECALL FOR SOMETHING THAT LOOKS SIMILAR TO THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

ITS NOT COVERED. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, DUE TO THE GLARE REFLECTING FROM THE MELTING DASHBOARD MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE. HOW THIS WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE TO BEGIN WITH SURPRISES ME.
STARTED THE CAR AND THE "BRAKE" WARNING LIGHT IMMEDIATELY CAME ON. ALSO, IN THE MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY AT THE CENTER OF THE SPEEDOMETER, THE MESSAGE "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" APPEARED. I THOUGHT MAYBE MY PARKING BRAKE WAS CAUSING A PROBLEM, SO I ENGAGED AND DISENGAGED THAT. THEN I TRIED TO DRIVE THE CAR. THE BRAKE PEDAL BEHAVES AS IF THERE IS NO BRAKE-ASSIST. I JAM IT TO THE FLOOR TO GET MINIMAL BRAKING. I DROVE SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY HOME IN THIS CONDITION. IN SUBSEQUENT TRIPS (OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS) I HAVE ONLY SEEN THIS AGAIN ONE MORE TIME. WHEN THE SYSTEM DOES NOT REPORT THE PROBLEM, THE BRAKES WORK FINE. AND IN THAT ONE CASE WHERE THE PROBLEM RE-APPEARED, I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN A FEW TIMES, UNTIL THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARED. I HAVE NOT SEEN THE PROBLEM BEGIN WHILE I AM DRIVING -- ONLY WHEN I AM STARTING THE CAR. HOWEVER, I'VE NOW SEEN OTHERS DESCRIBE THE PROBLEM AS BEGINNING DURING DRIVING, SO I WILL BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL AND GET THE CAR TO THE DEALER ASAP. *JS

THESE MESSAGES ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE, TRACTION CONTROL AND SEVERAL OTHER LIGHTS LIT UP AND REMAINED ON. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THIS CAR AND AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON, DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE PROBLEM WITH THE TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRIDS. FROM MANY SIMILAR STORIES I HAVE READ, TOYOTA AND TOYOTA DEALERS RESPOND TO THIS ISSUE AS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND IF THEY ARE SO AWARE THERE SHOULD BE A SUITABLE RESOLUTION OFFERED ALONG WITH A RECALL FOR ALL TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID OWNERS SO OUR LIVES WILL NOT BE IN DANGER.
