STARTED VEHICLE, DASHBOARD DISPLAYED VSC WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WITH AUDIBLE WARNING. SHUT OFF VEHICLE. WAITED A MINUTE AND RESTARTED VEHICLE. NO WARNING APPEARED ON DASHBOARD DISPLAY. DROVE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 130 MILES AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. AFTER 30 MINUTES STARTED VEHICLE, VSC WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN WITH AUDIBLE WARNING. THE VSC MODULE CONTINUED TO MAKE A NOISE AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE. RE-STARTED VEHICLE AND AT SHUT OFF VSC WAS SILENT. RE-STARTED VEHICLE 60 MINUTES LATER, NO WARNING APPEARED ON DASHBOARD DISPLAY. DROVE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 130 MILES AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. THE CAR HAD PERFORMED WELL UNTIL THIS TIME WHEN THE WARNING LIGHT FIRST CAME ON. I THEN READ REPORTS ON TCH VSC FAILURES. I SHALL NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT CAN BE REPAIRED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED CAUSING THE RPMS, THE SPEEDOMETER, AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGES FAIL TO DISPLAY READINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED OR DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000.
WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, THE DASH DISPLAY SAID "CHECK VSC SYSTEM". WHEN I BACKED THE CAR OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE BRAKES WERE ERRATIC, EITHER VERY WEAK, OR VERY STRONG. I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THEM FOR SAFE BRAKING. THERE WAS NO CODE IN THE OBD SYSTEM (I HAVE A OBD SCAN TOOL.). AN INTERNET SEARCH INDICATES THAT REPAIRS WILL PROBABLY BE ABOUT $3,000. THE CAR IS NOT BE SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THIS IS REPAIRED. *TR
DRIVING VEHICLE TODAY AND THE CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON. A SHORT TIME LATER THE CHECK VSC SYSTEM CAME ON AND THE CAR NO LONGER ACCELERATED. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I WAITED A WHILE BEFORE STARTING AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME. I HAVEN'T GONE TO THE DEALERSHIP YET BUT WILL UPDATE WHEN I DO. THE CAR WILL NOT BE DRIVEN UNTIL IT IS SERVICES, I'M SCARED IT CAN KILL ME! *JS

DRIVING AT NIGHT GOT STOPPED BY NJ STATE TROOPER FOR HAVING DRIVERS LIGHT OUT. FLIPPED LIGHT HANDLE ON AND OFF LIGHT CAME BACK ON. TEN MINUTES LATER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE WITH THE BRAKE ON. SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND WENT THROUGH THE GLASS FRONT OF A BANK BUILDING, LANDING IN THE VESTIBULE. THE ACCIDENT DATA PROVIDED BY THE INSPECTOR HIRED BY TOYOTA CLEARLY SHOWS THAT AT THE TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED THE ACCELERATION INCREASED FROM .78 TO 2.27 AND THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED FROM 400 TO 2000. WHEN THE BRAKE WAS RELEASED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT, THE ACCELERATION RATE RETURNED TO .78 AND THE RPMS DROPPED TO 1600. TOYOTA SAYS THEY FOUND NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR AND INSISTS THAT BOTH THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE WERE PRESSED AT THE SAME TIME, WHICH WAS NOT THE CASE. THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNEXPECTEDLY, BUT AT THE TIME WE DIDN'T REALIZE THAT THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. WE FEEL TOYOTA DOESN'T WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE AND ARE CONCERNED THAT THIS MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN. AS A RESULT, MY WIFE IS NOW AFRAID TO RIDE IN THE CAR. *TR
EARLIER THIS YEAR, MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY STARTED PRODUCING SOME WHITISH SMOKE WHEN STARTING THE ENGINE. MORE RECENTLY, THE ENGINE BEGAN SOUNDING NOISY WHEN ACCELERATING - MORE OF A RATTLE OR CLACKING THAN A KNOCKING SOUND. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND THE MECHANIC DIDN'T SEE ANY LEAKS, BUT MENTIONED THAT IT COULD BE ENGINE COMPONENTS THAT WERE MACHINED PROPERLY AND STARTED TO SHOW AS THE CAR GOT MORE MILEAGE. WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY A COUPLE WEEKS AGO AT 70MPH, MY CAR STARTED TO LOSE POWER AND THE ENGINE WAS SOUNDING WORSE AND WORSE. I MANAGED TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY JUST BEFORE THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND DIED OUT. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR, THERE WAS A LOUD BANGING AND CLANGING IN THE MOTOR AND THE MOTOR THEN DIED. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT MY CAR HAD THROWN A ROD AND IT SHREDDED THE MOTOR. MY OPTIONS WERE: 1) REBUILD THE MOTOR FROM DEALER PARTS - $8-9K! 2) HAVE A REBUILT MOTOR INSTALLED - $6-7K! 3) HAVE A SALVAGED MOTOR INSTALLED - $5-6K! OPTIONS 1 AND 2 DIDN'T MAKE MUCH SENSE AS THAT WOULD BE VERY CLOSE TO THE CURRENT BLUE BOOK VALUE. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND MANAGED TO GET OPTION 3 DONE FOR $4500. STILL A LOT MORE THAN I WAS HOPING OR NEEDING TO SPEND. BOTH MECHANICS MENTIONED THAT THEY HAD SEEN A NUMBER OF 07 CAMRYS WITH MOTOR PROBLEMS, INCLUDING ONE VERY RECENTLY THAT WAS THE SAME AS MY DAMAGE. THE SALVAGED MOTOR I HAD INSTALLED WAS AT 59K MILES AND I'M REALLY HOPING THAT I DON'T HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THIS MAKES ME VERY CONCERNED FOR THE QUALITY OF TOYOTA CARS. *TR
I ACTUALLY JUST BOUGHT A USED 2007 HYBRID CAMRY LAST MONDAY. THERE WERE NO INDICATORS ON THE DASH AND IT LOOKED GREAT. 2 DAYS LATER THE CHECK VSC SYSTEM AND ABS LIGHTS COME ON THE DASH. I TOOK TO THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY AND THE PROBLEM IS THE SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE HERE, FAILURE IN BRAKE ACCUMULATOR. THE TECHNICIAN WAS VERY ADAMANT ABOUT ME PARKING THE CAR IMMEDIATELY UNTIL REPAIRS ARE COMPLETED. HE SAID THE BRAKES CAN GO OUT AT ANY TIME, VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE REPAIRS ARE GOING COST OVER $1500. *JS
WE WHERE DRIVING TO THE STORE AND ON THE WAY THE CHECK ENGINE CAME ON, SO WE PULLED INTO THE LOCAL AUTOZONE AND THEY RAN A SCAN FOR FAULT CODES. IT HAD A CODE P0171 WHICH THEY SAID IT COULF 1 OF SEVERAL POSIBILITIES AND SHOULD HAVE A REPAIR SHOP PERFORM A PROPER CHECK TO BE SURE WHAT IS ACTUALLY GOING ON. WELL WE CONTINUED ON TO THE STORE, WHEN COMING TO A STOP MY WIFE SAID WE HAVE NO BRAKES, THE PEDAL WAS GOING TO THE FLOOR, WE DID COME TO A STOP WITH HITTING ANYTHING THANK GOD. WELL I DROVE FROM THERE BACK HOME VERY CAREFULLY. ONCE HOME I LOOK UNDER THE HOOD FOR ANYTHING THAT BE CAUSING IT TO HAPPEN, AND EVERYTHING LOOK INPLACE AND OK. SO NEXT I GOT BACK INTO THE CAR AND PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN AND HEARD A LOUD AIR LEAKING FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL, I GOT DOWN BY THE PEDAL AND PUSH ON THE THE PEDAL WITH MY HAND AND COULD HEAR AIR COMING OUT THE BOOT. I CALLED A MECHANIC AND EXPLAINED TO HIM WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND HE SAID IT IS MY POWER BRAKE BOOSTER. NEXT I GOT ON LINE AND FOUND THAT ALOT OF 2007 CAMRY'S WITH ANYWHERE FROM 40,000 MILES UP TO AND OVER 200,000 THAT HAVE THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER FAILING, AND WHEN I TRIED TO FINE ONE FOR MY CAR I FOUND THAT THERE ARE NONE ANYWHERE, EVEN AT THE DEALERSHIP. I DID ASK IF THEY KNOW OF THIS PROBLEM AND HE PAUSED FOR A MOMENT, THEN SAID NO. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED BE FORE SOMEONE INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
WHILE TURNING LEFT IN AN INTERSECTION, THE "BRAKE", "WARNING", "STABILITY" AND "ABS" WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AS WELL AS "CHECK VSC SYSTEM". SIMULTANEOUSLY, I LOST BRAKE POWER. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 2 MI TO HOME WITH NO ABILITY TO CONTROL MY SPEED USING POWER BRAKES. INSTEAD, THE ONLY BRAKES I HAD WERE THE EQUIVALENT OF USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE; A VERY HARD, JERKING MOTION. THE TOYOTA DEALER FIRST TOLD ME THAT I WAS LOW ON BRAKE FLUID AND I COULD NOW PICK UP MY CAR. I ARGUED THAT I SHOULD HAVE SEEN AN "IDIOT" LIGHT FIRST RATHER THAN COMPLETE FAILURE OF MY BRAKING SYSTEM! 5 DAYS LATER, AND SEVERAL CONVERSATIONS WITH CORPORATE, THE "SKID CONTROL COMPUTER" WAS REPLACED FOR $2,000! THIS IS SUCH A DANGEROUS FAILURE ON AN AUTOMOBILE! IF I HAD BEEN ON THE FREEWAY, THERE CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE! *TR
I RECENTLY BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A FRIEND. DID NOT REALIZE UNTIL AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR THAT THE DASHBOARD IS A LOT WORSE THAN I THOUGHT. IT IS GUMMY AND CRACKED ALL OVER. I BOUGHT THE CAR BECAUSE THE EXTERIOR LOOKS GREAT AND IT RUNS LIKE NEW, BUT THE DASHBOARD NOW APPEARS TO BE A REAL PROBLEM. IT WILL BE EXPENSIVE AND HOW DO I KNOW THE SAME THING WILL NOT HAPPEN TO THE NEW ONE. I ALONG WITH HUNDREDS AND SOON TO BE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO FEEL TOYOTA SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. IT COULD TURN INTO A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE AIR BAGS ARE AFFECTED. *TR
DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND IS VERY STICKY. GLARE FROM THE SHINY CAUSES DISTRACTION ON THE ROAD. HARD TO SEE THE ROAD BECAUSE OF THE SHINE. DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND IS VERY STICKY. *TR
2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ASSISTANCE IN REPLACEMENT OF DEFECTIVE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS VEHICLE DASHBOARD . *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED NOT ONLY WAS THE DASHBOARD MELTING, STICKY, AND UGLY, THE GLARE COMING FROM THE DASHBOARD MADE IT DIFFICULT TO SEE THE ROAD AHEAD AND THEREFORE GREATLY INCREASED THE POTENTIAL FOR INJURY. *JB
THE DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND MELTING. I HAVE TAKEN METICULOUS CARE OF THIS CAR, USED SUN SHADE & GARAGED FOR THE FIRST 4 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. *TR
MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY'S DASHBOARD IS MELTING. IT'S LIKE SOMEONE HAS POURED HONEY OR SYRUP ALL OVER IT. I FIRST NOTICED IT THIS SUMMER AND IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. I HAVE TRIED TO CLEAN IT WITH WINDEX AND A PAPER TOWEL OR A DRY CLOTH. IT NOW HAS PAPER TOWEL PIECES STUCK ALL OVER IT AND THE DUST IS PERMANENTLY ON THE DASH BECAUSE IT WON'T WIPE OFF. THERE IS ALSO A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD AND A HORRIBLE SUBSTANCE ON THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT CANNOT BE WIPED OFF NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU CLEAN IT, IT JUST SMEARS. THIS CAUSES DIFFICULTIES DRIVING AT NIGHT. GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT CHEMICALS ARE BEING RELEASED INSIDE THE VEHICLE THAT WE ARE ALL INHALING! I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO ROUND ROCK TOYOTA IN ROUND ROCK, TX AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME HOW AWFUL IT WAS BUT THEY COULDN'T/WOULDN'T HELP ME UNLESS I WANTED TO PURCHASE A NEW DASH BOARD FOR MY CAR. FROM MY READING ON THE INTERNET I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM AND TOYOTA IS DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO MAKE AMENDS FOR THE DEFECTIVE MATERIALS THEY HAVE USED IN THESE VEHICLES. I CANNOT SELL MY CAR LIKE THIS AND I'M SURE IT WILL EFFECT THE VALUE OF MY CAR SHOULD I EVER TRY TO REPLACE IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS, WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OUTDOORS, THE SUNLIGHT CAUSED THE DASHBOARD TO MELT. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WAS A GLOSS THAT REFLECTED FROM THE DASHBOARD ONTO THE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REFLECTION IN THE WINDSHIELD MADE THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. STOKES BROWN TOYOTA OF HILTON HEAD (100 FORDING ISLAND RD, BLUFFTON, SC 29910, (888) 994-0079) WAS NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A WARRANTY REPAIR WAS PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER, BUT THE DEADLINE HAD BEEN EXCEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. *TT
MY DASH IS MELTING, STICKY AND VISIBILITY IS IMPAIRED BY GLARE. I JUST FOUND THIS INFORMATION OUT THROUGH A FRIEND. I PLACED A CALL TO TOYOTA THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY DASH. I DID NOT RECEIVE SAID RECALL. THIS GLARE IS IMPAIRING MY VISIBILITY. TOYOTA SAID THE RECALL WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THEY WILL NOT HONOR REPAIR. AGAIN I DID NOT RECEIVE RECALLS. I HAVE BEEN AT THE SAME ADDRESS FOR 20 YEARS. I DID RECEIVE THE OTHER 2 RECALLS AND THEY HAVE BEEN COMPLETED. NOW ASK YOURSELF IF I ADDRESSED THE OTHER TWO RECALLS WHY WOULD I NOT HAVE ADDRESSED THIS ONE. THE CAMRY HAS 76680 MILES ON IT IT HAS BEEN VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF. I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. I THINK NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. SAFETY HAZARD WORK WITH ME HERE.
EXCESSIVE GLARE ON WINDSHIELD LIMITING VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING. FROM NEWS REPORTS AS SEEN ON LOCAL NBC-TV AFFILIATE (JULY 31,2019) TOYOTA ADMITTED THAT MELTING DASHBOARDS CONTRIBUTED TO THIS SAFETY CONCERN/ WINDSHIELD GLARE EFFECT. THE MELTING DASHBOARD HAD BEEN REPORTED TO TOYOTA (A FEW MONTHS AGO FOR THE SECOND TIME - ORIGINALLY REPORTED IN 2014 AND TOYOTA INDICATED THEY WILL REVIEW). THE SECOND NOTIFICATION RESULTED IN THE RESPONSE THAT TOYOTA WAS NOT AWARE OF THE ISSUE. ISSUE HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS.
2007 CAMRY CE, PROBLEM STARTED WITH CAR HAVING 75K MILES. CAR NOW HAS 102K MILES. OIL CONSUMPTION IS INCREASING. NOW CONSUMING 1-2 QUARTS EVERY OTHER WEEK. THERE ARE NO OIL LEAKS ANY WHERE. NO LEAKS UNDERNEATH ENGINE, ON TOP OF ENGINE, AND ANY WHERE VISIBLE OR AT ALL. NO OIL LEAKS! BUT OIL IS REQUIRED REGARDLESS EVERY OTHER WEEK! CAR IS STATIONARY WHEN OIL IS CHECKED. CAUSE OF PROBLEM (I AM TOLD BY DEALERSHIP MECHANICS THAT OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY "BAD" RINGS IN THE ENGINE). THE DEALERSHIP MECHANIC SAY THEY SEE THAT PROBLEM OFTEN WITH THE YEAR, MODEL, AND MAKE OF CAR. NO PAPERWORK PROVIDED.
THE REAR LEFT HAND SIDE SEAT BELT GOT LOCK AND THERE WAS NO WAY TO UNLOCK IT, THE ONLY SOLUTION AT THE TIME WAS TO CUT THE SEAT BELT WITH A KNIFE TO FREE MY EIGHT YEARS OLD GRANDDAUGHTER THAT WAS CRYING AND VERY SCARE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A STREET AT 35 MPH HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE ASB AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON RED, AND MULTI-INFORMATION CENTER SHOWED CHECK VSC SYSTEM. AT THE SAME TIME A CAR PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME AND BRAKES SEEMED TO NOT WORK AND REQUIRED A HEAVY FORCE ON PEDAL FOR ANY STOPPING ACTION. I WAS LUCKY NO ONE WAS IN LEFT LANE SO I SWITCHED TO IT TO KEEP FROM HITTING THE CAR THAT PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME.TOOK CAR TO SHOP AND NEED TO HAVE ABS MOD. REPLACED. *TR

THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE TRACTION WARNING LIGHT, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT, THE ABS, AND LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED.THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE ACTUATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
BRAKES SHUDDERED AND SEATS VIBRATED STRONGLY WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY KNOWN AS THE GRAPEVINE IN CALIFORNIA. MANY CARS AROUND AS SPEEDS VARIED BETWEEN 45 - 70 MPH DEPENDING ON CONGESTION POINTS. APPLYING BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN WOULD FEEL AS IF THEY WERE SHUDDERING AND NOT STOP. AFTER FINALLY FINISHING GRAPEVINE PORTION AND DRIVING BACK TO LOWER FLATTER ELEVATION, THE BRAKES ACTED NORMALLY. NO DASH LIGHTS INDICATING ANY PROBLEM. TOOK CAR TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THE MORNING AFTER TRIP AND DESCRIBE SCARY RIDE. DIAGNOSTICS DID NOT FIND PROBLEMS. ROAD TESTS WERE NORMAL. SINCE THEN, NO FURTHER INSTANCE OF BRAKES SHUDDERING. *TR

ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WENT OUT IN MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY AND THE TOYOTA PLACE SAID THE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WOULD COST 2100.00 TO FIX IT. THE SUN VISOR DOES NOT STAY IN PLACE AND KEEPS HANGING MAKING IT A SAFETY ISSUE. TOYOTA DID DO A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTICE WHEN I TOOK THE CAR DEALER TO HAVE THIS DONE. FIRST: I GOT CHECK VSC SYSTEM WHEN I MADE A U-TURN. I READ THE FAILURE CODE IS C1391. SO, IT MEANS ABS ACCUMULATOR IS LEAKING. I ALSO NOTICED ABS ACCUMULATOR WAS PRETTY NOISE ABOUT TWO MONTH BEFORE. I THOUGH IT MAY BE A PROBLEM, BUT I DID NOT PAY ATTENTION ON IT BECAUSE I WAS SUFFERING THE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. NOW, IT REALLY DIED. I GOT MANY CASES ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUES AND THEY REPORTED THAT TOYOTA HAS REDESIGNED THIS ACCUMULATOR, SO IT MEANS TOYOTA ALREADY KNEW THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE. IT MAY CAUSE DEADLY ACCIDENT IF THE BRAKE DOESN'T WORK SUDDENLY. IN ADDITION, FIX THIS PROBLEM NEEDS OVER TWO THOUSANDS DOLLARS. IT SHOULD NOT BE PAID BY OWNER SINCE THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT. PULLING OUT OF A SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT, THE DIALS ON MY DASH ILLUMINATED AND A "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" NOTIFICATION POPPED UP ON THE STATUS SCREEN. THE CAR'S BRAKES WERE SLUGGISH TO RESPOND AND FORCEFUL PRESSURE WAS NEEDED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. LUCKILY THE PARKING LOT WAS EMPTY AND I WAS ONLY GOING 10MPH. *JS

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS UNIT PULSING ON MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE ABS UNIT MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE WHILE COMING TO A STOP AND WILL CONTINUE CLUNKING AS IF IT IS ENGAGING AND DISENGAGING WHILE THE BRAKES ARE DEPRESSED. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN IF I ROLL VERY SLOWLY INTO THE STOP WITH LIGHT BRAKE PRESSURE. THE ABS UNIT ALSO CYCLES EVERY FEW SECONDS BEFORE DRIVING AND AFTER THE CAR IS POWERED OFF. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WOULD BE A $3,000 REPAIR OF AN INTERNAL LEAK IN THE ABS UNIT. THE TECHNICIAN SAID IT WOULD BE SAFE TO DRIVE AS IS, WITHOUT REPAIR, AND THAT HE KNEW OF NO ISSUES WITH THE ABS UNIT ON THE 2007 CAMRY HYBRID. BUT TOYOTA SEEMS TO KNOW OF AN ISSUE. FOR TWO YEARS NOW, THE "CHECK VSC" LIGHT WILL COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. IT HAS HAPPENED BOTH WHEN I AM IN MOTION AS WELL AS STATIONARY. AT THAT TIME, SEVERAL OTHER LIGHTS ON THE CLUSTER SUCH AS THE ABS LIGHT WILL COME ON. THE BRAKES BECOME VERY SLUGGISH BUT I CAN ULTIMATELY STOP THE CAR. ON JUNE 5, 2014 I WAS DRIVING MY 07 CAMRY AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH WHEN THE ABS, BRAKE AND VSC WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. IT TOOK MORE EFFORT TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES IN THE CAR AND I DROVE THE CAR TO KEYES TOYOTA. THE VEHICLE WAS CHECKED AND SEVERAL CODES WERE IDENTIFIED. C012 REAR SPEED SENSOR RH CIRCUIT, C0215 REAR SPEED SENSOR LH CIRCUIT, C1331 OPEN CIRCUIT IN LEFT FRONT CIRCUIT, U0073 CONTROL MODULE BUS OFF. SERVICE WRITER FOUND THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR WAS SHORTING OUT INTERMITTENTLY AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE MAY NOT BE SAFE TO DRIVE. HE ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $2,750 PLUS TAX. I WAS NOT ABLE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AT THIS TIME. ON 6-9-14 CONTACT WAS MADE TO TOYOTA AND THEY ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR TSB'S FOR THE ABS SYSTEM ON NON HYBRID 07 CAMRY EVEN THOUGH THE SYMPTOMS EXPERIENCED AND THE REPAIR CODES WERE SIMILAR. TOYOTA DECLINED ASSISTANCE AND ADVISED THAT IF THEY DID DO A RECALL I COULD SUBMIT FOR POSSIBLE REIMBURSEMENT OF THE REPAIR. IN RESEARCHING THIS I FOUND OVER 125 ABS RELATED COMPLAINTS REPORTED TO NHTSA. IN ADDITION THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET WITH PERSONS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE VERY SAME SYMPTOMS SOME OF WHICH HAVE ALMOST BEEN INVOLVED IN COLLISIONS. THIS SEEMS TO BE THE VERY SAME ISSUE THAT THE 07 HYBRID CAMRY WAS RECALLED FOR AND YET NOTHING IS BEING DONE FOR THE NON HYBRID VERSION. THIS TO ME IS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
