DASHBOARD ON MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS GOTTEN VERY STICKY. CAUSES GLARE ON WINDSHIELD AND MAKES DRIVING VERY HAZARDOUS. *TR
MY TOYOTA SOLERA IS GOING THRU EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL! I'M CONTINUOUSLY ADDING OIL...AND IT'S NOT LEAKING ANYWHERE. ...WHERE THE HELL IS IT GOING! MY ENGINE IS GOING TO BURN UP! I WANT ANSWERS! 2.4 L 4-CYLIMDER (2AZ-FE). *TR
MY DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND CRACKING. PIECES ARE STARTING TO FALL OFF. NOT SURE HOW THIS MAY AFFECT INSIDE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AS THEY MAY BE EXPOSED THROGH THE CRACKS. IN CASA OF AN ACCIDENT THE DASBOARD MAY CRUMBLE AND PIECES MAY CAUSE BODY DAMAGE TO FACE AND EYES. TOYOTA KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM BUT IN TAKING TO MUCH TIME TO MAKE REPAIRS. IN FACT NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN DONE IN MY LOCAL DEALER TO ANY OF THE AFECTED UNITS DUE TO LACK OF PARTS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT A YEAR.
I HAVE SEEN COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR WEARING OUT ON 2007 CAMRY. NO RECALLS AND PEOPLE BEING LEFT TO PAY FOR REPAIR OR TO GET A REPLACEMENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH MY CAMRY. THE VISOR ARM BROKE OUT OF MY VISOR. IT FIRST WOULD NOT STAY UP WHEN NOT NEEDED THEN IT JUST COMPLETELY BROKE. I THINK THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BY TOYOTA. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR THAT THE VISOR WORE OUT. *TR
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME SUDDENLY ON AND THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. I TESTED THE BREAK AND I HAD TO PUSH HARD TO MAKE IT WORK. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND AT 65 MPH. I GOT REALLY SCARED AND AFTER A WHILE EVERYTHING CAME BACK TO NORMAL. IT HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY AND HAPPENING FREQUENTLY.
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY MY BRAKE LIGHT TURNED ON. I THOUGHT I LEFT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL DOWN, BUT EVERYTHING WAS FINE. SUDDENLY ALL WARNING LIGHTS IN DASHBOARD TURNED ON, AS A REACTION I TRIED TO APPLY BRAKES AND TO MY SURPRISE MY BRAKES WOULDN'T BRAKE PROPERLY. *TR
WHILE BRAKING ON A SLIGHT INCLINE MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID'S POWER BRAKES AND STEERING MALFUNCTIONED MAKING THE VEHICLE HARD TO STEER AND STOP. IT FELT AS IF BOTH THE POWER BRAKES AND STEERING WENT OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY AND THE CAR SEEMED TO ROLL, OR SWAY, LEFT AND RIGHT. AT THE SAME TIME A "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" WARNING APPEARED ON MY DASH ALONG WITH THE RED BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHT, RED SERVICE INDICATOR LIGHT (TRIANGLE WITH EXCLAMATION POINT), AMBER BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT AND THE AMBER ABS WARNING LIGHT. IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED, IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR HAD I BEEN APPROACHING A CROWDED CROSSWALK OR INTERSECTION THIS EVENT COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. AFTER PULLING OVER AND VISUALLY INSPECTING MY BRAKE FLUID LEVEL AND ENGINE COMPARTMENT I USED MY CELL PHONE TO CHECK ONLINE AND FOUND OTHERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS (WHICH LED ME HERE TO FILE A COMPLAINT/REPORT). AFTER WAITING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR THE WARNING MESSAGE AND LIGHTS WENT OUT SO I SLOWLY DROVE TO THE DEALER 5 MILES AWAY. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $3607.88 (PLUS TAX ON THE $3000.00 PART). MY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TOYOTA CSR PROCLAIMS TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE -- EVEN THOUGH MY WEB SEARCHING HAS TURNED UP LOTS OF DISCUSSION AND ARTICLES (I.E. L.A. TIMES REPORT, CBS, NBC, AP, CONSUMER AFFAIRS PLUS THE NHTSA ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE OPENING OF THEIR INVESTIGATION AT THE END OF JANUARY 2014). *TR
THE DASHBOARD ON MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY IS MELTING. IT IS SUPER SOFT AND SUPER SHINY. EVERYTHING IS STICKING TO IT. IF YOU PRESS ON IT WITH A FINGERNAIL, YOUR FINGERNAIL WILL EASILY SINK INTO THE MELTED PLASTIC. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. THE SHINY RESIDUE THAT HAS SEEPED OUT OF THE DASH IS CAUSING A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE TAKEN EXCELLENT CARE OF THIS CAR. I CAN'T BELIEVE THE DASH IS DISINTEGRATING. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY IN JULY 2006, NEW. AT APPROXIMATELY 50K MILES, WHEN TURNING CORNERS MY ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS STALLING, THE ACCELERATOR DID NOT WORK, AND A "LOW ENGINE FUEL" WARNING CAME ON. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ASSURED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. THIS SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED AT LEAST 7 TIMES SINCE AND EACH TIME I WAS ASSURED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY, AND THEN MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WHEN THESE INCIDENTS FIRST OCCURRED. I'M NOW AT 108K MILES. FOR THE PAST TWO WEEKS WHILE DRIVING AND TURNING CORNERS, THE "LOW ENGINE FUEL" WARNING DISPLAYED BRIEFLY. SINCE THE DEALERSHIP PREVIOUSLY ASSURED ME THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR, AND MY CAR HAD 2K MORE MILES BEFORE MY NEXT OIL CHANGE, I CONTINUED TO DRIVE MY CAR. THEN ON SUNDAY, JUNE 25TH I DECIDED TO HAVE AUTO ZONE TAKE A LOOK AT MY CAR. TO MY UTTER SURPRISE, THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO OIL ON THE STICK WHEN THE AUTO ZONE GUY CHECKED MY OIL LEVELS. I PURCHASED TWO QUARTS OF OIL AND THE AUTO ZONE GUY PUT THE OIL IN MY CAR. THE FOLLOWING SATURDAY I TOOK MY CAR TO MY USUAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED MY EXPERIENCE. THE SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED ME THAT MY PISTON IS PROBABLY WORN OUT AND OIL IS PROBABLY LEAKING INTO MY ENGINE, WHICH WOULD BE A $4K REPAIR COST. AS I STATED TO THE SERVICE ADVISOR, AT ANY MOMENT MY CAR CAN CONK OUT WHILE DRIVING, BECAUSE OIL IS LEAKING INTO MY ENGINE AND THE ONLY TIME A WARNING APPEARS IS WHEN I TURN CORNERS. IF I'M DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WHERE SPEEDS ARE IN EXCESS OF 80 MPH, AND MY CAR CONKS OUT BECAUSE OIL IS LEAKING INTO MY ENGINE, THAT IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. A SERVICE TECHNICIAN WHO OVERHEARD OUR CONVERSATION STATED, "YEAH, THE ENGINES ON THOSE CARS ARE A PIECE OF JUNK." TOYOTA REFUSES FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. *TR
THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING IT IS VERY STICKY AND SHINY AND THIS CAUSES A TERRIBLE GLARE ON THE DRIVER SIDE WINDSHIELD WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING THAT CAN IMPEDE VISION. *TR
I BACKED OUT OF DRIVEWAY, PUT CAR INTO DRIVE AND STEERING BECAME EXTREMELY HARD TO CONTROL.
VEHICLE STARTED IN DRIVEWAY, FOOT ON BRAKE. WHEN PARKING BRAKE WAS RELEASED THE VEHICLE ROLLED INTO STREET DESPITE THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. BRAKES ENGAGED SUDDENLY AFTER ROLLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. *TR SECOND INCIDENT AT GAS STATION. VEHICLE IN DRIVE, FOOT ON BRAKE, WHEN PARKING BRAKE RELEASED VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL FORWARD, A THUD WAS HEARD AND BRAKES APPLIED SUDDENLY AFTER ROLLING SEVERAL FEET.
I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A SMALL DEALERSHIP WITH AROUND 149700 MILES 2WEEKS LATER A VSC MESSAGE CAME ON WITH A COUPLE OF LIGHTS AFTER INVESTING ONLINE FOUND OUT IS A MANUFACTURE PROBLEM AND THEN AFTER FURTHER CHECK FOUND OUT IT WAS TAKEN IN TO TOYOTA TO VERIFY THAT SAME PROBLEM I GOT SO I CALLED THEM THEY TOLD ME IS THE BRAKE ACTUATOR WAS BAD AND THE COST IS 3500 THANK YOU *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE GAUGES FLUCTUATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE DROPPED TO ZERO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL WIRING ISSUE AND THE ABS SYSTEM WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
VEHICLE SERVICED 3/10/10 UNDER TOYOTA 90L RECALL CAMPAIGN. DEALERSHIP STATED ALL SYSTEMS FUNCTIONAL UPON COMPLETION. ON 5/21/14, IN SAFE ROAD CONDITIONS AND PARKING LOT SPEEDS <10 MPH, DRIVER APPLIED BRAKES TO VEHICLE IN ORDER TO PULL INTO PARKING SPOT. DURING BRAKING, VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW OR STOP, BUT ACCELERATED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, STRIKING A PARKING BERM AND THREE OTHER VEHICLES. POLICE REPORT MADE; DRIVER NOT CITED BUT WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT TOYOTA RE BRAKE FAILURE AND ACCELERATION. TOYOTA WAS CONTACTED; INSPECTION WAS MADE BY BOSCH ENGINEERING. TOYOTA CONTENDS THE INCIDENT IS NOT A RESULT OF ANY MANUFACTURING DEFECT. TOYOTA PROVIDED A TECHNICAL REPORT CONTAINING ENGINEERING DATA WITHOUT LAYMAN'S EXPLANATION OR PROOF OF ITS CONTENTION. TOYOTA WAS FOUND BY THE DOJ TO HAVE MISLED CONSUMERS AND THE GOVT REGARDING SEVERITY AND "RESOLUTION: OF THIS ISSUE. ON 8/21/14 AND 8/22/14 DRIVER WAS CONTACTED BY TOYOTA WITH A SECOND AND SEPARATE RECALL NOTICE #E0U, AFFECTING THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE RESERVOIRS, IN WHICH CLOGGING AND/OR LOW FLUID LEVELS "COULD CAUSE ADDITIONAL WARNING LAMPS[...]TO ILLUMINATE AND FRONT BRAKE ASSIST COULD BE TEMPORARILY LOST." THE WARNING LAMP IN QUESTION DID ILLUMINATE DURING THE 5/21 INCIDENT. LEGAL COUNSEL FOR DRIVER HAS ADVISED AN INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF THE BOSCH REPORT AND INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE RESERVOIR; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND SOLD AT AUCTION BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY'S SALVAGE AGENT. I HAVE INITIATED AN INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF THE BOSCH REPORT AT MY OWN EXPENSE. IN LIGHT OF TOYOTA'S MISLEADING CONDUCT REGARDING RECALL CAMPAIGN 90L AND THE SUBSEQUENT RECALL #E0U, DRIVER CONTENDS THAT TOYOTA IS AT FAULT FOR THE EVENTS OF 5/21/14.
THE PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 40K MILES WITH MY TOYOTA CAMRY 2007, WHILE DRIVING THE BREAK LIGHT WARNING WOULD COME ON AS WELL AS THE ABS & PARKING WARNING LIGHT. THE ODOMETER & RPM GAUGES GO TO ZERO. WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING THE BREAKS TAKE HARDER AND LONGER TO ENGAGE. THE CAR SHAKES AS WELL WITH MINIMAL BREAKING EFFICIENCY. INTERMITTENTLY THE STEERING WHEELS ALSO BECOMES HARD TO TURN AND SHAKES VIGOROUSLY, WHICH WOULD CAUSE MY WRIST TO HURT. TOYOTA DEALER INDICATED THAT NEW BREAK ACTUATOR IS REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY ASKED ME TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF THE BREAK ACTUATOR PROBLEM. I FOLLOWED UP WITH ANOTHER LETTER TO THE EXECUTIVE AT TOYOTA, ABBASS SADDAT, VP. DANICA WITH EXECUTIVE OFFICE CONTACT ME BACK. SHE STARTED BY BRUSHING ME OFF INITIALLY. WHEN I INDICATED THAT THE SAME PROBLEM WAS ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA FOR THE SAME YEAR FOR THE HYBRID VERSION, SHE INDICATED THAT OK, SO IT IS NOT FOR OUR GAS MODEL. I INDICATED THAT THE WHEN YOU CONTACT TOYOTA DEALER PARTS DEPARTMENT, IT IS THE SAME PART FOR BOTH GAS AND HYBRID. SO WHEN SHE HEARD THAT, SHE SAID, 'OHH' OK, LET ME INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. SHE MADE IT EVIDENT THAT HER JOB WAS TO BRUSH ME OFF, WITHOUT ACTUALLY LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM OR WANTING TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT IS VERY OBVIOUS THAT TOYOTA WILL NOT TAKE INITIATIVE UNLESS A MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC DIES OR GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED. SO FAR I AM STILL WAITING FOR HE R CONTACTING ME CONFIRM HE DEALERS FINDING OR ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. THIS A SERIOUS PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUE. FURTHER MORE, THE TOYOTA DEALER INDICATED THE CAR IS WORTH $7200. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO REPLACE A ABS BREAK ACTUATOR TO BE CLOSE TO THE HALF OF THE PRICE OF THE CAR EITHER.

THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER WILL CEASE TO INDICATE PROPER READINGS AND DROP TO ZERO. THE TACHOMETER WILL THEN BOUNCE BETWEEN ZERO AND WHAT I CAN ONLY ASSUME IS A CLOSE APPROXIMATION OF THE ACTUAL ENGINE RPM. AT THE SAME TIME, THE ABS AND PARKING BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATE AND STAY ON FOR THE DURATION OF THE "EPISODE". THESE LAST ANYWHERE FROM 10 SECONDS TO 10 MINUTES. IN THE MEANTIME, THE CAR RUNS NORMALLY FROM WHAT I CAN DISCERN. I CAN BE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 OR SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT IDLING AND THESE EPISODES OCCUR. THERE ARE NO OTHER INDICATIONS THAT SOMETHING IS AMISS...NO ROUGH IDLING, NO ENGINE STALLING, JUST THE DISPLAY. THIS IS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY, 4 CYL, 5 SPD AUTOMATIC. I HAVE INSPECTED THE TRANSAXLE INPUT AND OUTPUT SHAFT SENSORS AND THEY APPEAR TO BE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. THERE ARE NO INDICATIONS OF OIL BUILDUP OR BROKEN/SHORTED WIRES. CONNECTIONS ALL LOOK GOOD FROM WHAT I CAN TELL. AUTHORIZED TOYOTA DEALERS IN PERU DO NOT ACCEPT TO INSPECT AND REPAIR MY CAR SINCE IT IS A US MODEL. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE'S DASHBOARD IS PARTIALLY MELTED, STICKY, AND SHINY. THIS SHININESS CAUSES A GLARE OFF THE WINDSHIELD WHICH OBSTRUCTS MY VIEW WHEN DRIVING. I HAVE RESORTED TO USING A DASHBOARD COVER SO AS TO STOP THE GLARE. I HAVE A SAFETY CONCERN SINCE THIS DASHBOARD COVER OVERLAPS OVER THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. *TR
COPY OF AN EMAIL SENT TO TOYOTA: I AM WRITING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT AN ISSUE THAT JUST AROSE WITH MY TOYOTA SOLARA CONVERTIBLE. IT IS A 2007 VEHICLE THAT I LOVE. I HAVE TAKEN CARE OF IT AND DRIVE IT JUDICIOUSLY. I ONLY HAVE 31,500 (APPROXIMATELY) MILES ON THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AT WHICH I PURCHASED IT FOR MAINTENANCE, ANY RECALL REPAIRS NEEDED, ETC. IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE, THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OF ANY KIND, NO MATTER HOW MINOR. THE AIRBAGS HAVE NEVER BEEN DEPLOYED FOR ANY REASON. NOW, FOR MY COMPLAINT: ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AGO, THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP AND IMMEDIATELY MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THIS EXAMINED. LAST THURSDAY, THE 17TH OF MAY, THE SERVICE MAN AT THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THE AIRBAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS NOT WORKING, CANNOT BE FIXED AND THE SYSTEM NEEDS REPLACED. I ORDERED SAID SYSTEM SINCE I DO NOT WANT TO BE WITHOUT THE AIRBAG PROTECTION. HOWEVER? I AM VERY UPSET ABOUT HAVING TO SPEND $700 TO REPLACE THIS NEEDED SYSTEM WHEN NOTHING OCCURRED TO CAUSE THIS SYSTEM TO FAIL. I KNOW I NEED IT AND FEEL THAT I HAVE TRIED TO TAKE CARE OF THE CAR AND HAVE NOT ABUSED IT. I REALIZE REGULAR MAINTENANCE IS NECESSARY AND SOME THINGS OCCASIONALLY NEED TO BE REPLACED, SUCH AS, TIRES, BRAKES, ETC. BUT AN AIRBAG SYSTEM? REALLY? MY OTHER CAR IS A 2009 TOYOTA RAV 4 AND I HAVE ALSO TRIED TO CARE FOR THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAG IN THE RAV 4 OR ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE HAD IN THE PAST (SINCE AIRBAGS WERE FIRST INSTALLED IN CARS). THIS REALLY, REALLY UPSETS ME!!! I AND MY HUSBAND ARE RETIREES AND ON A FIXED INCOME AND REALLY FEEL THE EXPENSE FOR THIS ITEM IS HORRIBLE AND WONDER WHY SOMETHING LIKE THIS ISN?T COVERED BY TOYOTA. *JS

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE WINDSHIELD WIPER INTERMITTENTLY DISENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
WHEN I TRIED TO APPLY BRAKES TO STOP, I REALIZED THAT THE BRAKE HAD COMPLETELY FAILED AND I WAS ON THE 110 FREEWAY ON A BUSY MONDAY MORNING. LUCKILY I DIDN'T REAR END THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE DEALER IS TELLING ME THAT MY BRAKE SYSTEM (ACCUATOR AND ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS) ARE OUT. I'M AFRAID TO APPLY ANYTHING ON IT AS THIS MIGHT JUST MAKE ITS CONDITION WORSE. MY LAST OPTION IS TO USE A DASHBOARD COVER TO HIDE THE SCRATCHES AND PREVENT THE DASHBOARD FROM GETTING DAMAGED FURTHER. FROM ABOUT 6 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, THE BRAKE ACTUATOR MOTOR WOULD CYCLE ON/OFF FREQUENTLY AFTER A TRIP. OVER TIME, THE DURATION OF THE ON AND OFF CYCLING AFTER A TRIP GRADUALLY INCREASED FROM ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO APPROXIMATELY 90 SECONDS. THE ACTUATOR MOTOR ALSO CYCLED WHEN OPENING THE DOOR BEFORE A TRIP. OTHER SYMPTOMS THAT SURFACED PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT INCLUDED FREQUENT ON/OFF CYCLING OF THE BRAKE ACTUATOR MOTOR AT TRAFFIC LIGHT STOPS AND AN AUDIBLE "BARKING" SOUND FROM UNDER THE HOOD. RESEARCH ON THE WORLD-WIDE-WEB REVEALED MANY OWNERS WITH SAME SYMPTOMS. BECAUSE THE ENGINE IN THE HYBRID CARS TURN OFF DURING NORMAL OPERATION, ENGINE VACUUM IS NOT READILY AVAILABLE FOR THE POWER BRAKE ASSISTANCE AS FOUND IN CONVENTIONAL AUTOMOBILES. CONSEQUENTLY, THE FAILURE OF THE POWER ASSIST IS DUE TO THE INADEQUATE DESIGN OF THE HYBRID SYSTEM. ON 4/05/2014, ALL 5 SEAT BELTS LOCKED AFTER PULLED OUT SO FAR. A WEEK LATER ON 04/12/2014 THE REAR PASSENGER BELT WOULD NOT LOCK AND COULD BE PULLED OUT AS FAR AS THE BELT CAN GO WITHOUT EVER LOCKING. I THEN CHECKED THE OTHER 4 BELTS AND THEY ALL DO NOT LOCK. IT CONTINUED AT ABOUT 1-MINUTE INTERVALS WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND ALSO WHEN PARKED AND TURNED OFF. IT WOULD END WITHIN ABOUT 5 MINUTES OF BEING TURNED OFF. IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE BRAKES WERE TRYING TO ENGAGE OR THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT PRESSURE TO THEM. A DAY BEFORE THE INCIDENT, WHEN THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING, THERE WOULD BE A CHIRPING NOISE AS WELL. THEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, EVERY BRAKE-RELATED WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD LIT UP AND A MESSAGE APPEARED SAYING, "MAINTENANCE REQUIRED. CHECK VSC SYSTEM." THE BRAKES DIDN'T FAIL, THOUGH, SO I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD VSC SYSTEM ISSUES IN THIS CAR. 3 YEARS AGO THE VERY SAME THING HAPPENED, AGAIN ON THE HIGHWAY, WHERE THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE VSC WARNING MESSAGE CAME ON AS WELL. FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS BEFORE THAT, THE BRAKES WERE CHIRPING WHEN ENGAGED AND ALSO WHEN THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND PARKED, THEY WOULD CHIRP FOR A LONG TIME AS IF THEY WERE TRYING TO ENGAGE THEN TOO. IT COST ME $2100 TO REPLACE THE MODULE. NOW IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN. I AM NOT PREPARED TO RISK BRAKE FAILURE NOR PAY AN EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF MONEY ON THE BRAKING SYSTEM FOR THIS CAR, AGAIN. ABS ACTUATORS IS FAILURES ON 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID 71K MILES: ABS LIGHT IS ON, THE E-BRAKE LIGHT IS ON EVEN WHEN THE E-BRAKE IS DISENGAGED, AND THE CAR IS SAYING TO CHECK THE VSC SYSTEM. THE BRAKES ARE ALSO NOTICEABLY WEAKER TO THE EXTENT THAT I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY KIDS!!!!! *TR
BRAKES STARTED ACTING FUNNY AND MAKING STRANGE NOISES. I TOOK IT IN TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WOULD COST $3000 TO REPLACE THE ABS ACTUATOR AND THAT IF I DIDN'T, THE BRAKES COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME.
