TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR RELEASED DOWNWARDLY AND DISTORTED THE VISION. THE SUN VISOR WOULD ONLY REMAIN IN THE UPWARD POSITION WHEN SECURED WITH VELCRO. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,600.
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY AND I PURCHASED A EXTENDED WARRANTY WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2007 THAT WARRANTY EXPIRED AUGUST 1, 2013 A FEW DAYS AFTER IT HAD EXPIRED MY DRIVER SIDE VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP! I DO NOT HANG ANYTHING ON IT LIKE CD HOLDER OR ANYTHING. IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY BECAUSE IT MAKES IT VERY HARD TO SEE THE ROAD WHEN I AM DRIVING AND I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED SENSE THERE HAS BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FOR THE 2007 CAMRY WITH THIS SAME SITUATION AND IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM FOR MANY CAMRY OWNERS. THE VISOR SOMETIMES EVEN HITS ME IN THE HEAD WHEN I TRY TO GET OUT OF MY CAR. I HAVE HAD MANY ISSUES WITH THIS CAR FROM DAY ONE AND I AM NOT VERY HAPPY THAT THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED YET. SEEMS LIKE TOYOTA DOES NOT CARE FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. ALSO ON TOP OF THE VISOR MY SHOCK COIL BROKE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHICH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DID COVER SENSE IT HAPPENED BEFORE AUGUST 1ST BUT NOW THE STRUT IS LEAKING OIL ON THAT SAME SIDE, I BROUGHT IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER IN JUNE 2013 AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WON'T REPLACE IT BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH IT IS LEAKING OIL IT IS NOT 100% BROKEN YET AND TOLD ME THE WARRANTY WONT COVER IT UNTIL IT COMPLETELY BLOWS! I TOLD THEM I HAVE A YOUNG CHILD THAT I HAVE TO THINK OF THIS SAFETY ALONG WITH MINE AND WAS SHOCKED THAT EVEN THOUGH IT IS LEAKING OIL (WHICH IS NOT GOOD) CAUSE AT ANY MOMENT WHILE DRIVING IT CAN BUST THAT TOYOTA DOESN'T RECOGNIZE IT, ITS NOT LIKE IT WILL HEAL ON ITS OWN SO I FEEL IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED UNDER MY WARRANTY THAT I PAID ALMOST $1000.00 FOR WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR! I HOPE TOYOTA WILL RECALL THE VISOR ISSUE FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. I AM GOING TO CONTACT TOYOTA DIRECTLY ON MONDAY TO SEE IF I CAN GET ANYWHERE WITH THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND HAS BECOME VERY STICKY. THE GLARE EFFECT MY VISION WHICH HAS CAUSE CLOSE ACCIDENTS. *TR
THE "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL AS THE PARKING BRAKE SYMBOL, TIRE STABILITY SYMBOL, ETC. THE BRAKE PRESSURE HAS BEEN REDUCED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ABS ACTUATOR WITH A COST OF $3300 PLUS. *TR
DASHBOARD IS MELTING CAUSING A GLARE THAT REFLECTS ON WINDSHIELD *TR
A FEW INCHES OF THE FRONT DASHBOARD AREA NEAREST THE FRONT WINDOW MELTED AND WOULD GET ON THE SUNSCREEN AND FROM THERE ON TO THE FRONT WINDOW. I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE PERSON AT MY DEALERSHIP AND ON THE ADVICE OF HIS MANAGER I SENT AN EMAIL TO TOYOTA. THEY ONLY OFFERED TO PAY FOR HALF OF THE REPLACEMENT COST. I HAD THE DASHBOARD REPLACED AND HAD TO PAY $688.70. *TR
THE DASHBOARD ON MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY IS MELTING AND IS VERY STICKY, ESPECIALLY DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS I HAVE READ SEVERAL POSTS REGARDING THIS VERY SAME ISSUE AND NOTICE THAT NO ONE HAS HAD THIS ISSUE CORRECTED BY TOYOTA FOR FREE, OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A VEHICLE MANUFACTURE DEFECT THAT TOYOTA NEEDS TO DEAL WITH BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. I PURCHASED A TOYOTA VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE REPUTATION ON QUALITY & CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT UNTIL NOW I'VE NOT SEEN EITHER OF THESE. TOYOTA NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT & MAKE IT RIGHT FOR ALL AFFECTED CONSUMERS. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO CLEAN DASHBOARD AT ALL. EVERYTHING STICKS TO IT AND IF YOU TOUCH IT WITH YOUR FINGER NAIL-STICKY CHUNKS COME OUT..... THE GLARE IS AWFUL AND SINCE BOTH OF MY VISORS HAVE BROKEN OFF I CANT USE THOSE TO HELP...
BOTH MY SUN VISORS HAVE BROKE TO THE POINT THEY ARE BECOMING A SAFETY ISSUE. THEY NOW DANGLE AND WILL NOT STAY UP. IM READING THIS HAS BECOME A HUGE ISSUE FOR MANY TOYOTA CAMRY OWNERS. I CAN UNDERSTAND IF THERE WAS A LOT OF WEAR AND TEAR ON THEM HOWEVER I KNOW THERE IS NOT AND SHOULD NOT BE BREAKING THIS QUICKLY.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN A MANUFACTURER RECALL CONCERNING THE DASHBOARD. THE DEALER (TUSCALOOSA TOYOTA, 3325 SKYLAND BLVD E, TUSCALOOSA, AL 35405, (205) 553-3325) STATED THAT THE PART WAS ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. MONTHS LATER, THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE STATUTE HAD EXPIRED TO RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR SOLUTION FOR THE PART. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED NO SOLUTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MLEAGE WAS 130,000.
WHILE DRIVING HOME, FOUR LIGHTS LIT UP ON MY DASHBOARD AND THE CHECK VSC SYSTEM WARNING APPEARED AS WELL. THERE WAS NOTHING NOTICEABLE THAT HAPPENED SO I DROVE ON TO THE HOUSE. ONLY THING I NOTICED THE NEXT MORNING WAS THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL KICKED BACK TOWARDS ME WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. BRAKES APPEARED TO WORK FINE. TOOK THE CAR INTO MY TOYOTA DEALER (WHERE I PURCHASED IT NEW IN NOVEMBER OF 2006). THEY CHECKED IT AND FOUND OUT THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PRICE FOR THE PART WAS $2500. LABOR WAS $118. CAR WAS FIXED IN TWO DAYS. FORTUNATELY I HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT COVERED ALL BUT $100 SO I FELT VERY LUCKY. MY MAIN INTENTION ON SUBMITTING THIS IS TO FIND OUT WHY TOYOTA HASN'T ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS PART. I'VE READ (IN THE TOYOTANATION FORUM ONLINE) ABOUT MANY DRIVERS WHO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AT LESS THAN 65,000 MILES; MINE OCCURRED AT 82,600 MILES. AND THE PRICE OF THE PART IS ASTONISHING. SO MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WAS FINE. I DIDN'T NOTICE ANY BRAKING ISSUES BUT WOULD LIKE TO SUBMIT THIS AS ANOTHER OWNER WHO EXPERIENCED THIS SAME ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE REAR BRAKES SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PULLEY FOR THE WATER PUMP FAILED AND CAUSED THE SERPENTINE BELT TO FAIL AS WELL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT OVER HEAT PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE PULLEY WAS RATTLING AND MAKING NOISE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 74,000.
I PURCHASED THIS 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY FROM CARMAX IN JULY 2013. FOLLOWING THE PURCHASE, I NOTICED THE DASHBOARD WAS STICKY AND THOUGHT MAYBE SOME TYPE OF DETAILING CLEANER HAD BEEN USED ON IT. THE DASHBOARD IS STICKY BECAUSE IT IS MELTING IN THE HEAT. THE SHINY, MELTING DASHBOARD CAUSES A GLARE ON THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AFFECTING VISIBILITY. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING EAST ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY THE SUN WAS HITTING MY DASHBOARD AND BECAUSE OF THE MELTING CONDITION OF THE DASHBOARD THERE WAS A GLARE IN FRONT OF ME THAT IMPAIRED MY VISION. IT FORCED ME TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN TO GET WAY FROM THE GLARE. THIS DASH BOARD BECOMES SO STICKY IN THE HEAT THAT I CANT DISPLAY PARKING PASSES IN THE WINDOW BECAUSE I WON'T BE ABLE TO REMOVE THEM. BECAUSE OF THIS I RUN THE RISK OF BEING TICKETED. A DASHBOARD SHOULD NOT BE IN THIS CONDITION. IT IS MADE OF FAULTY MATERIAL. *TR
WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR I DIDN'T NOTICE THAT THE DASH WAS SO STICKY. IT IS REALLY BAD LIKE IT IS MELTING AND IF YOU TOUCH IT AND YOUR NAIL HITS IT. IT TAKES A BIG CHUCK OUT OF THE DASHBOARD SO UPSET ABOUT THIS. I NOTICED ALOT OF COMPLAINTS SO SAD. IT JUST LOOKS TERRIBLE AND DUSTY CAUSE YOU CAN NOT TOUCH IT UNLESS YOUR HAND STICKS TO IT. *TR
DURING JULY, 2013, I NOTICED THAT THE DASHBOARD ON MY CAMRY WAS STICKY AND LOOKED GRIMY. I ASKED MY HUSBAND IF HE COULD CLEAN IT FOR ME. WHEN WE HAD THE CAR SERVICED IN AUGUST, 2013, WE WERE GIVEN THE TELEPHONE NUMBER FOR TOYOTA TO REPORT MY PROBLEM. IT WAS NOT UNTIL A ROAD TRIP THIS PAST SUMMER, THAT WE NOTICED HOW EXTREMELY DIFFICULT IT WAS TO DRIVE AT NIGHT THE DISTRACTION FROM ONCOMING HEADLIGHTS HITTING OUR GLOSSY DASHBOARD. WAS DISTRACTING AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE GLARE OF THE DASHBOARD ON THE FRONT WINDOW FROM THE SUN DURING THE DAY WAS AS TERRIBLE. WE COULD NOT SEE EXIT SIGNS OR TRAFFIC WARNING LIGHTS BECAUSE OF THE CONSTANT GLARE AND BLINDING REFLECTION. AFTER I SAW A NEWS INVESTIGATION ON NBC6 MIAMI CONCERNING MY SAME PROBLEM, I REALIZED THAT THIS SITUATION IS A GROWING CONCERN FOR TOYOTA OWNERS AND SHOULD BE BY TOYOTA. MY FAMILY HAS HAD TOYOTAS SINCE MY MOTHER'S CRESSIDA IN 1984. WE HAVE LIVED IN MIAMI SINCE THEN AND HAVE ALWAYS PURCHASED TOYOTAS; TERCEL, COROLLA-SR-5, 3 CELICAS, 3 COROLLAS, ETC. MY 2007 CAMRY HAS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT TOYOTA CORPORATION HAS BEEN USING INFERIOR MATERIALS IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE LIABLE FOR SOMETHING THAT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES AND INJURY WE NEVER HAD ANY SUCH PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO BECOME PART OF ANY CLASS ACTION CONCERNING THIS SITUATION. *TR
BACK DURING THE RECALL I HAD MY CAR SERVICED AT THE TOYOTA STATION (2010) FOR THE ACCELERATOR ISSUE THEY WERE HAVING. I AM STILL HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THE DIFFERENCE I CAN STILL FEE THE ENGINE REVVING UP AND THE CAR FEELS AS IF IT IS GOING TO TAKE OFF HOWEVER THE CAR STAYS THE SAME SPEED. BASICALLY WHEN THE ENGINE REVS UP I AM NOT ABLE TO HIT THE GAS OR BREAK. IT'S LIKE THE CAR HAS A MIND OF IT'S OWN AND WITHIN ABOUT 20 SECONDS OF IT REVVING UP THEN YOU CAN FEEL IT LITERALLY LET STOP REVVING UP AND I HAVE CONTROL AGAIN OF THE SPEED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY LE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAYED ZERO. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE AND THE FAILURE RECURRED SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED BY THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,300.
FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, CAR STEERING WHEEL, AND AT TIMES, CAR AS A WHOLE VIBRATES; THEN, UPON DRIVING AROUND CORNER, GOING ONLY 25 MPH ON 07/11/2013, SUDDENLY, SPEEDOMETER, RPM GAUGE, OIL GAUGE ALL BEGAN JUMPING ERRATICALLY, ALL AT TIMES GOING TO ZERO, THEN THE ABS AND BRAKES LIGHTS CAME ON. (JUST HAD OIL CHANGE DONE 3 WEEKS AGO, WITH TIRE ROTATION OF BRAND NEW TIRES (FIRST ROTATION), AND ALL 4 BRAKES PADS REPLACED 2 WEEKS AGO.). HAPPENED FOR FEW SECONDS, WAS AWARE, BUT DIDN'T THINK ABOUT IT ANYMORE. NEXT DAY, DRIVING ONLY 40MPH, SAME THING AGAIN, BUT ALSO THIS TIME, SPEEDOMETER WENT AND STAYED AT 0, AS WELL AS RPM AND OIL THE SAME WAY, AND CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO FALL APART UNDERNEATH. I PULLED OFF ROAD, CHECKED BOOK, AND SAID TO GO RIGHT TO DEALER. WENT TO AN ADVANCED AUTO STORE FOR DIAGNOSIS. BATTERY CHECKED OUT GOOD, THOUGHT WAS POSSIBLY THE ALTERNATOR MAY NEED REPLACING, THOUGH CHECK PRETTY NORMAL. SAME DAY, DROVE TO AUTO REPAIR WHERE THEY KNOW ME, AND THEY WANTED 235.00 TO ORDER A PART TO FIX THE ABS SYSTEM. SAID IT WOULD COST ME 825.00 THERE, VERSUS ABOUT 2000.00 AT DEALER. THIS WAS ALL AFTER THEIR DIAGNOSIS THAT BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR APPEARED FINE. THEY TOLD ME THIS IS VERY SERIOUS, LIFE/DEATH SITU. THEY SAID IF SOMEONE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME, MY CAR WOULD PROBABLY NOT STOP, ONLY SKID/SLIDE. LATER THAT DAY, ON A STRETCH OF ROAD NEAR HOME, I TRIED DRIVING ABOUT 45-50MPH, AND THEN BRAKED SUDDENLY TO SEE WHAT IT WOULD DO.(DID THIS 4X). IT DID NOT STOP SUDDENLY, BUT SKIDDED/SLID TO A STOP, AND UNDERNEATH, IT SOUNDED AS IF CAR WAS GOING TO FALL APART! ALL KINDS OF NOISES! HAD ALTERNATOR REPLACED 2 DAYS AGO, BUT IS STILL HAPPENING; EVEN DRIVING ON INTERSTATE YESTERDAY, SPEEDOMETER WENT TO ZERO TWICE, GAUGES ALL ERRATIC. WAS SUPPOSED TO DRIVE TO MI FROM FL TODAY, BUT DON'T EVEN FEEL SAFE LOCALLY! ONLINE, HAVE FOUND MANY WITH SAME PROBLEMS (2007 CAMRY)! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THERE WAS A KNOCKING SOUND WHILE BRAKING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000. *TR
WHITE POWDER OR DUST BLOWING OUT OF AIR VENTS OF MY HEATING VENTS IN WINTER AND AC VENTS IN SUMMER. DUE TO THAT CAR ALSO SMELL LIKE DUSTY ETC.. THIS PROBLEM IS OCCURRING SINCE LAST SUMMER, PROBLEM PERSIST LAST SUMMER, WINTER AND NOW THIS SUMMER. FIRST TIME MY KIDS (4 AND 3 YEARS OLD) WAS RIDING IN MY CAR TO GROCERY STORE 3 MILES FROM HOME, THEY HAD PROBLEM BREATHING AND THEY ARE COUGHING, SO I HAVE OPEN MY ALL WINDOW, SO KIDS CAN BREATHE. I AM EXHALING THAT WHITE POWDER INSIDE ME, I AM NOT SURE WHAT THAT POWDER IS, AND HOW IT WILL EFFECT MY HEALTH IN LONG TERM. I TOOK MY CARE TO 3 DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS AND EVERYONE SAID WITHOUT OPEN MY CAR THAT THIS IS KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. *TR
DURING REPLACEMENT OF THE TIRES ON THIS VEHICLE, THE MECHANIC OBSERVED OIL LEAKS ON BOTH OF THE FRONT STRUTS ON THIS CAR. ALTHOUGH THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS CONDITION WAS OBSERVED, THE LEAKS MUST HAVE BEEN PRESENT FOR SOME TIME BECAUSE THIS CONDITION PROBABLY CONTRIBUTED TO THE DETERIORATION OF THE TIRES. ONE OF THE TIRES ACTUALLY SHOWED AREAS WHERE THE STEEL BELTS OF THE TIRE WERE EXPOSED - POTENTIALLY A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
THE BRAKE ACTUATOR MALFUNCTIONED AND THE BRAKES BEGAN PULSATING AND GROANING WHEN APPLIED. THIS HAPPENED ON THE BALTIMORE WASHINGTON PARKWAY. BRAKING POWER WAS GREATLY REDUCED AND I HAD TO COAST TO A STOP IN THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY AND SLOWLY MAKE MY WAY TO AN EXIT RAMP AS IT WAS TOO UNSAFE TO CONTINUE DRIVING AT SPEED AND I WAS WORRIED THAT THE CAR WAS A DANGER TO MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS IN THAT CONDITION. THE BRAKES WOULD PULSATE/GROAN WHENEVER THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE AND THEY WERE APPLIED. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO A TOYOTA DEALER FOR SERVICING TWO DAYS LATER (I DID NOT DRIVE THE CAR AT ALL IN THE INTERIM), THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ACTUATOR AND THAT IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, HOWEVER THE STEERING FAILURE HAS CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
FOR THE LAST YEAR I HAVE NOTICED THE DASHBOARD HAS BEEN STICKY. WHEN THE SUN SHINES ON IT ,THERE IS A GLARE WHICH MAKES IT HARD TO SEE. EVERYTHING STICKS TO THE DASHBOARD. THIS IS A PROBLEM AND A HAZARD AND WE WOULD LIKE TOYOTA TO PROVIDE AN ACCEPTABLE SOLUTION. *TR
CHECK VSC SYSTEM ERROR MESSAGE CAUSED BY A BAD ABS ACTUATOR. NOW THE BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING. YOU PUSH ON THE BRAKES AND THE CAR WILL NOT STOP. AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY ONTO A RESIDENTIAL STREET, MY CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED MOVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET WHILE THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. I RECEIVED NO WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING THAT THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR! AFTER THE INCIDENT, I ATTEMPTED TO CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. HOWEVER, THERE IS NO DIPSTICK NOR COULD I LOCATE ANY INFORMATION IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO GET AN APPOINTMENT WITH A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE MECHANIC EXPLAINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID IN A 2007 CAMRY COULD ONLY BE CHECKED BY A MECHANIC. THE RESULTS OF HIS CHECK WERE THAT THERE WAS NO FLUID IN THE TRANSMISSION NOR DID HE FIND ANY LEAKS. HE PUT FLUIDS IN THE CAR, BUT IT CONTINUED TO SLIP WHEN HE TEST DROVE IT. I THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE CLOSET TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, LUSTINE TOYOTA. LUSTINE ALSO FOUND NO LEAKS IN THE TRANSMISSION AND COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE WERE NO FLUIDS WHEN IT WAS ORIGINALLY CHECKED BY THE MECHANIC. LUSTINE INFORMED ME THAT I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I CONTACTED DARCARS 355 TOYOTA WHO SERVICES MY CAR FOR THE RECOMMENDED 5000 MILE CHECKS. I HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH 355 THAT EXPIRED IN MAY 2013. MY CAR WAS LAST SERVICED BY 355 IN MARCH 2013. THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 3000 MILES REMAINING BEFORE MY NEXT SERVICE IS DUE. UNFORTUNATELY, THERE IS NO PROOF THAT 355 DID ANYTHING WRONG, SO THEY WOULD NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY. 355 WAS NOT EVEN WILLING TO ADMIT THAT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN HUMAN ERROR IN SERVICING MY CAR. I CONTACTED TOYOTA'S CORPORATE OFFICE. AFTER 4 DAYS OF MY CASE SITTING ON THE DESK OF A SUPERVISOR, I WAS EXTENDED A GOOD WILL OFFER OF $1500 TOWARDS MY NEXT NEW OR $1000 TOWARDS MY NEXT USED TOYOTA PURCHASE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE IN THE REPLACEMENT OF MY TRANSMISSION! MY CAR REMAINS IN THE SHOP. HOWEVER, ONCE THE TRANSMISSION IS REMOVED, LUSTINE WILL CHECK FOR POSSIBLE DEFECTS. *TR

TOYOTA HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON THIS ISSUE T-SB-0094-11; THEY KNEW THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT NEVER NOTIFIED VEHICLE OWNERS AND THE LOCAL DEALER NEVER PERFORMED THE INSPECTION TEST CALLED FOR IN THE BULLETIN. IN ADDITION, THERE HAVE BEEN A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FILED ON THIS WITH NHTSA AND HUNDREDS MORE POSTED ON THE INTERNET. THERE ARE TWO SAFETY ISSUES: ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING AND TOYOTA'S DISREGARD FOR SAFETY, BY NOT INFORMING OWNERS OF THE ISSUE. *TR

I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH THE ODOMETER READING 69,566 MILES ON THE ENGINE . I CHANGE THE OIL (5-20W) AND FILTER AND WITHIN A COUPLE OF THOUSAND OF MILES I HEARD SMALL KNOCKING LIKE A DEEP BEARING GOING BAD. I CHECK THE OIL AND DISCOVERED IT WAS NOT REGISTERING ON THE OIL STICK. IT NEEDED NEARLY 3 QUARTS OF OIL. THE TOYOTA SOLARA BURNS TOO MUCH OIL TO BE SAFE. THE CAR COULD OF HAD A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT BY FREEZING UP ON THE FREEWAY. I BELIEVE TOYOTA ENGINEERED AND PRODUCED A DEFECTIVE ENGINE AND IS TRYING TO COVER IT UP BY TELLING THE BUYERS "ITS NORMAL' TO HAVE OIL CONSUMPTION 1 QUART EVERY 600 MILES". THE OWNERS MANUAL STATES TO "CHANGE YOUR OIL EVERY 4,500 MILES. THIS IS A CONTRADICTION AS ADDING 1 QUART OF NEW OIL EVERY 600 MILES IS EFFECTIVELY CHANGING YOUR OIL BY DEFAULT. I sent a complaint about my dashboard melting, over two years ago and complained to the dealer ship with no help, they told me my warranty expired a week before the recall. They said it would cost me right at $ 1100.00 to repair, I told them that's not fair for me to pay for there mistake I can't afford that, the way the economy is going. I beg for help before and no one listen, so lam pleasing again. God I hope someone hear me this time.

I HAVE CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AFTER FINDING A WARRANTY POLICY BULLETIN SAYING IT SHOULD BE COVERED.HOWEVER NOW THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYING MY VIN MAY NOT MATCH A VEHICLE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I WENT TO WORLD TOYOTA ON 3/1/13 TO GET NORMAL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. I MENTIONED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED AND REPORTED THAT I NEEDED A R/R CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR REPLACED.THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS RESET. I WAS TOLD I DIDN'T HAVE TO REPLACE THE PART AT THAT TIME, BUT WOULD HAVE TO GET IT REPLACED WHEN THE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN.THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND MAINTENANCE REQ LIGHTS CAME ON 6/11.I HAD A DIAGNOSTIC RUN. I WAS TOLD THE CAMSHAFT GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.I CONTACTED WORLD TOYOTA TO HAVE THE PART ORDERED AND MADE AN APPT TO COME IN ON 6/21. ON 6/17, I HEARD 2 LOUD POPPING NOISES. I CHECKED THE OIL B/C THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE OIL PAN. I CHECKED THE DIP STICK TWICE AND NOTICED IT WAS DRY. I PLACED 3 QUARTS OF MOTOR OIL IN THE CAR.I STARTED THE ENGINE. IT STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND. I PARKED AND CONTACTED WORLD TOYOTA TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION. I TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 6/19.THE SVC ADVISOR TOLD ME THE SHORT BLOCK ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; THIS WAS DUE TO NO FAULT OF MY OWN.THERE WERE NO NORMAL WARNING SIGNS: CHECK OIL LIGHT OR BLACK SMOKE. I GOT ALL THE RECOMMENDED SVCS AT THE CORRECT INTERVALS. WHEN I ASKED WHERE THE OIL WENT, I WAS TOLD IT EVAPORATED.THE INSPECTION REPORT STATES I NEED REFURBISHED ENGINE OR A NEW SHORT BLOCK FOR $5,500 AND $6,400. I WAS TOLD THOSE WERE THE BEST PRICES THAT WORLD TOYOTA COULD OFFER BECAUSE THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED THE TOYOTA CX EXP CTR TO VOICE MY COMPLAINT AND EXPLAINED THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT THERE ARE COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME ISSUE, OIL CONSUMPTION. I WAS TOLD THEY COULD REIMBURSE ME $2,000 FOR REPLACING THE ENGINE OR GIVE ME $1,000 OFF THE PURCHASE OF A NEW OR USED TOYOTA VEHICLE ONCE I SUBMIT AN INVOICE STATING I PAID FOR THE SVC AND THAT THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED BY WORLD TOYOTA. *TR
