CAR WILL SUDDENLY SPEED UP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE FRONT AND REAR STRUTS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 51,000.
2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER STATES THERE WAS MOVEMENT COMING FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION STRUTS AND THEY LEAK OIL. SUSPENSION FRONT STRUTS NEED TO BE REPLACED *TGW
I PURCHASED A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY FROM LEITH TOYOTA IN RALEIGH NC, DECEMBER OF 2006. LAST WEEK MY DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR FELL WHILE DRIVING AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO WRECK. WITHIN A FEW DAYS THE PASSENGER SIDE VISOR POPPED OUT OF PLACE AND NOW IT WILL NOT STAY UP. I TALKED WITH THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THEY SAY THAT IT WILL COST $200.00 OR MORE TO REPLACE BOTH. I WENT ON THE INTERNET AND TO MY SURPRISE I FOUND THAT MANY MORE TOYOTA CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. THE VISOR CLIPS ARE CLEARLY DEFECTIVE PART(S) IN THESE VISORS. EVEN THE TECHNICIAN ADMITTED THAT THEY HAVE HAD TO REPAIR HUNDREDS OF THESE. I WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT I CAN COUNT ON TOYOTA TO FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR ME AT NO CHARGE, BUT I AM GETTING NO WHERE WITH THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL TOYOTA CUSTOMER FOR THE PAST 20 OR MORE YEARS. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR EVEN DEATH. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH AND COMING TO A STOP LIGHT THERE WAS SUDDEN ACCELERATION. WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKES WHICH WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. AS SHE MADE A LEFT TURN THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE LIGHT POLE AND WAS DESTROYED. THERE WERE TWO INJURIES BUT NO ONE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. THE SEAT BELTS WERE WORN AT THE TIME OF IMPACT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO CONTACTED THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE INSURANCE COMPANY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. UPDATED 01/31/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, SHE PREVIOUSLY COMPLAINED ABOUT A SQUEAKING SOUND WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE AND SOME IRREGULARITY WHEN ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE BRAKES CHECKED AND EVENTUALLY REPLACED. ALSO, THE PASSENGER FRONT STRUT BEARING, TOWER SUPPORT AND LOWER CONTROL ARM WERE REPLACED. 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY 2.4L AT 68,000 MILES - WATER PUMP FAILURE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO FILED A REPORT AND DID NOT OFFER ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE.THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

I TOOK MY 2007 CAMRY FOR 25,000 (AT 23,000) MILES SERVICE. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED NEW TIRES. I QUESTIONED IT AND WAS TOLD 'YOU HAVE TO TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY, TOO' I TAKE MY CAR IN CONSISTENTLY DO PRETTY MUCH WHAT IS SUGGESTED TO ME AS PART OF PREVENTIVE CARE AND I HAVE ALL THE BILLS TO PROVE IT, MENTIONED THIS TO THE SERVICE PERSON, AND TALKED TO MANAGER AND WAS TOLD THAT YES I NEEDED THE NEW TIRES. THIS WAS "NORMAL" WEAR AND TEAR. I SURE WAS NOT READY FOR SUCH A LARGE EXPENSE. AS I WAS RESEARCHING FOR WHAT KIND OF TIRES TO BUY, I FOUND THAT MANY 2007 CAMRY OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM! ALSO I FOUND THAT THERE IS A LEAKAGE PROBLEM WITH THE BRIDGESTONE TIRES, AND CHECKING MY SERVICE BILLS, I SEE THAT I HAD TAKEN MY CAR IN TO HAVE THE PRESSURE LIGHTS CHECKED, BECAUSE I WOULD ADD AIR TO MY TIRES AND FEW WEEKS AFTER I WOULD HAVE THE LIGHT COME ON AGAIN. ALL THIS IS DOCUMENTED AND NOW I AM FURIOUS THAT I WAS NOT TOLD OF THIS PROBLEM. THANKFULLY, I AM NOT ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING ANT 55+ MILES AN HOUR, AS I WORK NEAR MY HOME. I HATE TO THINK OF THE OUTCOME. WHEN I HAVE TAKEN MY SON BACK TO SCHOOL, IS WHEN THE PRESSURE LIGHT WOULD COME ON MOST OFTEN. NOW IT ALL MAKES SENSE! SINCE I TOOK THE CAR IN, THE PRESSURE LIGHTS HAVE NOT COME ON, I NOW WONDER IF THAT OPTION HAS BEEN DISABLED? OBVIOUSLY, I HAVE NOT YET CHANGED THE TIRES, AS IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO BUY ALL FOUR AT THE SAME TIME. I WAS HOPPING THE DEALER WOULD GIVE ME A BREAK. *TR
Vehicle runs low of engine oil quickly. I've gotten oil changes by dealer and always explain i have to purchase oil every 3 weeks to top off. Was told its a leak but I never see oil on the ground where I park.Its been like this since I've purchased the vehicle. The headlights are not bright no matter if i change the bulb or the actual headlight
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SHIFTED GEARS BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND UNTIL HE APPLIED EXTREME PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE FAILURE BEGAN TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY SO THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD ERRATICALLY SHIFT GEARS WHILE ACCELERATING OR DECELERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
DASHBOARD IS MELTING. IT IS STICKY AND CANNOT BE UNDONE. BITS COME OFF IN FINGERNAILS WHEN THEY STRIKE DASHBOARD IN ERROR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY TURNED RIGHT. SECONDS LATER, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 81,000.
A FEW WEEKS AGO I STARTED TO NOTICE A "CLUNKING NOISE" WHEN I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE THE CAR IS STANDING STILL OR MOVING SLOWLY, LIKE BACKING OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY OR TURNING INTO OUR DRIVEWAY, PARKING LOT, ETC.... I FINALLY HAD TIME TO LOOK IT UP ONLINE AND SEE IF I COULD FIND ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND OF COURSE I DID. APPARENTLY IT DATES BACK TO THE '04-'06 CAMRY AND A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. THERE WAS A TSB ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE EARLIER ISSUE, BUT NONE SO FAR FOR THE '07. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND FROM READING THE FORUMS IT APPEARS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD ISSUE. I THINK THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL.
DRIVER'S SUNVISOR SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING FELL DOWN HINDERING MY VISION WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAD TO PUSH IT UP IMMEDIATELY TO AVOID CRASHING INTO A CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS UNABLE TO KEEP THE VISOR UP AND HAD TO DRIVE HOME HOLDING IT WITH ONE OF MY HANDS. I REMOVED THE VISOR FOR SAFETY AND HAVE NOT REPLACED IT YET. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND HAVE DETERMINED THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH THE VISOR COMING DOWN AND NOT BEING ABLE TO GO BACK UP AND STAY IN PLACE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONTACT RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED WITH EXTREME PRESSURE AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN. THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE KEY LESS IGNITION AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE DEALER WAS INFORMED ABOUT THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 78144. UPDATED 12/23/10*LJ THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THEY DID PERFORM AN UPDATE AND THE PROBLEM DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. UPDATED 01/04/11.*JB
I PURCHASED THE CAMRY BACK IN 2010. CAR WAS GREAT, LOOKED GREAT. DASH LOOKED GOOD, OR AT LEAST I THOUGHT THE DEALERS DETAILER MADE IT LOOK GOOD. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, NOTICED THE DASH WAS INCREDIBLY STICKY. TOOK IT TO BACK TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM AND EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE DASHBOARD, AND IT WAS OUT OF MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALER TOO AND THEY SAID TOYOTA WOULD NOT COVER EITHER. THE DASH IS INCREDIBLY STICKY, LIKE THE GLUE THAT TOYOTA USED TO GLUE THE TOP MATERIAL DOWN ON THE DASH IS SEEPING THROUGH THE TOP LAYER. THE GLUE CREATES AN INCREDIBLE GLARE WHEN DRIVING, WHICH CAN BE INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS DURING SUNNY DAYS AS IT MAKES THINGS HARD TO SEE UNLESS YOU'RE WEARING A PAIR OF SUNGLASSES, AND EVEN SO THE GLARE IS STILL THERE. THE GLUE ALSO MAKES THINGS STICK TO THE DASH, MAKING IT INCREDIBLY HARD TO CLEAN AS WELL, WHICH CAN ALSO SHOW UP ON THE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD. I'VE NEVER USED ANY GREASY, OR OILY PRODUCTS TO CLEAN MY DASH AS I WAS WORRIED ABOUT MAKING THE GLUE/GLARE PROBLEM EVEN WORSE. I'M TEMPTED TO EITHER BUY A DASH COVER, WHICH IRONICALLY WILL STICK TO THE DASHBOARD, OR TINT MY WINDSHIELD TO KEEP THE GLARE DOWN. IT'S VERY DISAPPOINTING TOYOTA CHEAPED OUT ON THE MATERIAL USED IN THE DASH, THAT'S GOING TO HURT RESALE VALUE FOR ALL CAMRYS WITH THE ISSUE DOWN THE ROAD, AND CAN CREATE DANGEROUS CONDITIONS IF THE GLARE IS BAD ENOUGH FOR SOME PEOPLE. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ATTEMPTED TO SWITCH LANES. I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME IN THE REAR AND THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT FRONTAL DAMAGE TO MY CAR. MY BODY WAS STOPPED BY THE IMPACT OF THE STEERING WHEEL. I AM NOW SORE IN MY NECK AND BACK REGION. *TR

CHECK VSC SYSTEM WARNING, ABS, MULTI LIGHTS ON. WHEN BUZZ SOUND CONTINUALLY ARMS, IT IS SO HARD TO APPLY BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP COMPLETELY. THE BRAKES ARE OUT OF CONTROL. IT IS A DEFECT FROM MANUFACTURE, NOT A USING CONSUMER. THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS SO IMPORTANT WHEN MOVING. PLEASE RECALL TO FIX BEFORE CAUSING DEATHLY ACCIDENT. *TR
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. IN SEPTEMBER 2010, I WAS INVOLVED IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF A MECHANICAL DEFECT AND/OR FAILURE OF SYSTEMS IN THE VEHICLE. THE ACCIDENT WAS NOT THE RESULT OF HUMAN ERROR. UPON MY APPROACHING A PARKING SPACE, THE CAR LUNGED AND SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE CAR CRASHED INTO A BUILDING, RESULTING IN PROPERTY DAMAGE. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES. I FILED A CLAIM WITH TOYOTA. I REQUESTED INSPECTIONS OF THE VEHICLE FROM NOT ONLY TOYOTA, BUT ALSO FROM MY INSURANCE COMPANY. TOYOTA DENIED RESPONSIBILITY BASED ON THE ERRONEOUS INFORMATION FROM THE COMPUTER "BLACK BOX." THE BODY WORK ON MY CAR WAS JUST COMPLETED. I NO LONGER HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THE SAFETY OF MY CAR. I FEAR THAT THE VEHICLE COULD MALFUNCTION AGAIN, RESULTING IN A WORSE SCENARIO THAN THE ACCIDENT IN SEPTEMBER 2010. BEFORE MORE FATALITIES, INJURIES OR PROPERTY DAMAGES OCCUR AS THE RESULT OF MECHANICAL DEFECTS AND/OR FAILURE OF SYSTEMS IN TOYOTA VEHICLES, THE NHTSA SHOULD THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATE ANY AND ALL CLAIMS AGAINST TOYOTA VEHICLES THAT HAVE A HISTORY OF PROBLEMS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE PROGRESSIVELY BECAME WORSE OVER TIME. THE CONTACT HAD TO PLACE TAPE ON THE SUN VISOR IN ORDER TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE INTERNAL CLIP WAS WORN OUT AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. I HAVE HAD MY FRONT ROTORS RESURFACED DUE WARPAGE ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS (9/2010 & 9/2012-80K). THE ISSUE CAN BE SEEN PRIMARILY WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THEN SLOWING DOWN TO GET ON OFF RAMP, WHERE CAR WOULD SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY TO THE POINT OF STEERING WHEEL SHAKING OUT OF YOUR HAND WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. OTHER TIMES STEERING WOULD VISIBLY SHAKE, BUT NOT TO THE POINT OF SHAKING OUT OF YOUR HAND, WHEN TRAVELING IN TOWN AT LOWER SPEEDS WHEN STOPPING AT STOP LIGHTS. *TR
THE BRAKES SHAKES EXCESSIVELY WHEN BRAKING AT SPEEDS AROUND 60 - 70 MPH. SHAKING TRANSMITS TO STEERING WHEEL IF FRONT ROTORS WARP AND SOMETIMES SHAKE BODY OF CAR IF REAR BRAKES WARP. SHAVING ROTORS FIXES THE PROBLEM EVERYTIME. OCCURS APPROXIMATELY EVERY 30,000 MILES. THESE ROTORS WARP VERY EASILY. THEY ARE TOO THIN OR OF BI-METALLIC CONSTRUCTION WHICH CAN CAUSE DIFFERENTIAL GROWTH OF METAL, THUS WARPING ROTORS UNDER HIGH HEAT LOADS. BESIDES KEEP CUTTING INTO YOUR EXPENSIVE ROTORS, ONLY SOLUTION IS TO GO AFTERMARKET. NEW TOYOTA ROTORS WILL BE MADE THE SAME AND WILL WARP THE SAME. HIGH PERFORMANCE ROTORS WILL WORK EVEN BETTER. BUT HOLES AND SLOTS WILL BE HARD TO SHAVE LOCALLY. IT IS USUALLY FRONT ROTORS THAT WARP FIRST, BUT IT CAN BE BACK ROTORS AT TIMES ALSO. EVERYTIME YOU SHAVE THEM, THEY GET THINNER AND WARP EASIER THE NEXT TIME (LESS HEAT DISSIPATION CAPABILITY). ONLY PERMANENT FIX IS AFTERMARKET ROTORS. I AM AN EX-MECHANIC AND CURRENT MECHANICAL ENGINEER. *TR

CAR ACCIDENT - CAR CRASHED INTO MEDIUM ON LAKE SHORE DRIVE ON EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AND APPLIED BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN AS THE TURN WAS BEING MADE AND THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN BUT SPED UP - WHEN ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE TOTALLY - THE CAR ACTUALLY SPED UP AND HIT THE MEDIUM. THE ONLY WAY THE CAR STOPPED WAS IT WAS JAMMED INTO PARK. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND STATE FARM INSURANCE DEEMED TO TOTAL THE VEHICLE BASED ON THE AMOUNT IT WOULD COST TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. *TR
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT A MONTH AGO HAD TWO VISORS FELL DOWN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE SPRINGS THAT HOLD THEM SNAPPED OFF THE SAME DAY. I WAS DRIVING WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR FELL DOWN AND IS BEING HELD UP BY TAPE. I WENT IN TO TOYOTA AND THEY SAID SORRY IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY YOU HAVE TO PAY $240.00 FOR TWO VISORS. I AM FURIOUS AS I HAVE BEEN READING TO MANY COMPLAINTS THAT THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY RECALL AS IT OBSTRUCTS THE VIEW OF THE DRIVER. NO ONE IS RECALLING THESE AS A ROAD HAZARD. IT CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR DEATH IF FALLEN WHILE DRIVING AND OBSTRUCTS VIEW LIKE IT DID ME. I HAD TO HOLD IT UP WITH MY FINGERS WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY PERFORMED THE WORK AS LISTED ON THE RECALL NOTICE AND THAT IT WAS A SUFFICIENT REPAIR. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

I BOUGHT A 2007 CAMRY HYBRID FROM AUTOLAND (SPRINGFIELD, NJ) IN 2007, VIN [XXX]. RECENTLY I WAS IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT (AUGUST 25, 2010) IN WHICH I HIT A CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I DON'T HAVE THE EXACT SPEED OF THE IMPACT BUT I WOULD ESTIMATE IT WAS 25-35 MPH. THE RESULTING IMPACT RESULTED IN A TOTAL WRECK OF THE CAR (PHOTOS AVAILABLE). HOWEVER, THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY DESPITE THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT BEING SUBSTANTIAL ENOUGH TO TOTAL THE CAR. I WAS INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT, WITH INJURIES WHICH INCLUDE A CUT ON THE FOREHEAD FROM HITTING THE WINDSHIELD AND NECK SORENESS. THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS IF IT OCCURS AT THE WRONG TIME. AN INTERNET SEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. RECALL IS IN ORDER BEFORE SOMEONE GETS REALLY HURT OR KILLED.

WITH THIS INCREASED EXCESSIVE BURN RATE THE CAR MUST NOW BE MONITORED REGULARLY TO PREVENT ENGINE FROM RUNNING OUT OIL AND CEASING UP THE ENGINE. FROM DISCUSSIONS ON SEVERAL WEBSITES THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WHICH EFFECTS A LOT OF CAMRYS AND WHICH TOYOTA REFUSES TO CORRECT. THEY STATE A QUART BURNED IN 1200 MILES IS NORMAL WHICH IS A REALLY STUPID THING TO SAY. TOYOTA ONCE AGAIN IS FAILING TO STEP UP TO OWNING THE PROBLEM. ALSO, AS ALL THESE ENGINES ARE NEEDLESSLY BURNING THOUSANDS OF QUARTS OF OIL DUE TO LOW RELIABILITY PARTS, WE ARE VERY MUCH CREATING A LOT OF AIR POLLUTION. I WONDER WHAT THE EPA THINKS OF THIS? *KB
