RECEIVED RECALL TO REPLACE MELTED DASH AND I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET IT FIXED FOR 3 YEARS. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP KEEPS GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND. *TR
12/28/13 - ELSRODE AVE. BALTIMORE, MD 21214, SIDE STREET NEXT TO OUR HOUSE. [XXX] , WIFE, WAS PARALLEL PARKING THIS VEHICLE DRIVING IN REVERSE. VEHICLE HAD UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. BRAKES DID NOT WORK. VEHICLE WENT UP A SET OF CEMENT STEPS AND STOPPED FOR A SECOND, BUT THEN ACCELERATED IN DRIVE DOWN STEPS INTO STREET. AGAIN BRAKES DID NOT WORK. [XXX] DROVE VEHICLE INTO AN ALLEY AND HIT A STONE WALL WHERE IT STOPPED. ENGINE WAS SMOKING. IN REVERSE AND IN DRIVE, [XXX] HAD HER FEET ON THE BRAKES. THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. THIS WAS WITNESSED BY HER SON, [XXX], WHO WAS THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER. [XXX]. SUFFERED FRACTURED RIBS AND BRUISED LEGS. PASSENGER, [XXX] , WAS NOT INJURED. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BY INSURANCE COMPANY. TOYOTA INSPECTED VEHICLE ON 2/24/14 WHO SAID " BASED ON OUR INSPECTION OF YOUR VEHICLE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT WAS NOT THE RESULT OF ANY TYPE OF MANUFACTURING OR DESIGN DEFECT". MY HUSBAND WAS PUTTING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT AND IT WAS REALLY LOOSE AND FAILED TO RETRACT. WE WERE IN THE PARKING LOT OF WAL MART AND HE HAD TO GO WITHOUT WEARING A SEAT BELT DUE TO ITS FAILURE TO WORK PROPERLY. *TR
BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, THEN WARNING TO CHECK VSC SYSTEM, 2 OTHER WARNING LIGHTS AND ABS LIGHT CAME ON, BRAKING BECAME DIFFICULT WITH RESISTANCE WHEN APPLYING BRAKE, PULSING AND LURCHING FORWARD WHEN FOOT ON BRAKE STOPPED AT STOPLIGHT. THIS IS HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY. *TR
DECEMBER 21, 2013. I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING PLACE FROM A LARGE PARKING LOT, FOOT ON THE BRAKE ALMOST STOPPED; ENGINE ROARED AND I CATAPULTED OVER THE PARKING CURB INTO AND THROUGH SOME BUSHES AND OUT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BUSHES ANGLING RIGHT AND INTO THE STREET. I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP AND PARK AT THE CURB APPROXIMATELY 20-30 FEET DOWN THE STREET. NO INJURY TO MYSELF OR ANY OTHER PERSON. OVER $5,000 DAMAGE TO CAR EXTERIOR EXTENSIVE SCRATCHES, BACK BUMPER CAME OFF; SOME UNDERCARRIAGE DAMAGE, DETAILS UNKNOWN TO ME. STILL IN BODY SHOP AS OF THE AFTERNOON OF JANUARY 8, 2014. *TR
I APPLIED BRAKES, ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR WOULD NOT BRAKE. I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AS HARD AS I COULD AN FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. I GOT THE CAR TO WALNUT CREEK TOYOTA, CALIFORNIA. THEY CHARGED $150 AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG...BRING IT IN IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN (THEY FAILED TO NOTIFY ME THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL OTHER INSTANCES REPORTED)..5-12-14. SAME THING HAPPENED AS I CAME DOWN A FREEWAY OFFRAMP. IT TOOK ALL MY STRENGTH TO STOP THE CAR JUST INCHES FROM ANOTHER CAR. WALNUT CREEK TOYOTA SAID NOTHING WRONG AND THEIR REGIONAL TOYOTA TECHNICAL TEAM SAID THE SAME...NEITHER OF THEM MENTIONED THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINS TO THE NHTSA. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED, OR KILLED ANOTHER DRIVER. THESE CARS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED AND COMPENSATION TO THE OWNERS...I WASN'T GOING TO DRIVE , I WAS FORCED INTO "TRADING" IT IN FOR A NOT SO GREAT DEAL!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VSC WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY AS THE BRAKE PEDAL ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN ENGAGED. THE FAILURE CAUSED AN INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE WHEN THE CONTACT WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER HOWEVER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000. "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" NOTICE CAME ON MY DASH. VSC (VEHICLE STABILITY/SKID CONTROL). I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP APPROXIMATELY EVERY 3 MONTHS AND NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN DETECTED IN TERMS OF THIS. THE AREA WHERE I LIVE DOES GET HEAVY SNOW SO THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO HAVE HAPPEN. *TR

AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS COULD PREVENT THE AIR BAGS FROM DEPLOYING IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOR SIX MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. DASH BOARD LIT UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE THE BRAKE, HAZARD WARNING, STABILITY CONTROL AND I THINK ITS A TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON TRAVELING AT 55 MILE AN HOUR COMING DOWN A 20 DEGREE INCLINE OFF OF THE ASTORIA BRIDGE TRAVELING NORTH, FROM WHAT I HAVE READ THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS HAPPENING QUITE FREQUENTLY. MY BRAKES SEAM TO WORK FINE I AM TAKING IT TO THE DEALER TOMORROW I UNDER STAND THIS IS A $3000.00 FIX I DID BUY EXTRA WARRANTY WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR NOW TO SEE IF ITS GOOD. ITS BEEN A VERY GOOD CAR UP TO THIS POINT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE BRAKE SENSOR AND ABS SENSOR LIGHTS BOTH ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO INDICATED THAT THE ODOMETER AND TACHOMETER MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE INTERNAL ABS UNIT HAD FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED HOWEVER, THE DEFECT WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
DURING THE PAST YEAR I HAVE NOTICED MY DASHBOARD MELTING. THE DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND IS NOW SHINY. IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN SO BAD THAT AT THIS POINT IT IS CAUSING A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD WHICH IS OBSTRUCTING THE DRIVER'S VIEW. *TR
ON NOV 25TH, 2013 AROUND 9:30PM I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. A COUPLE OF MINUTES IN TO MY DRIVING MY BRAKE STOPPED FUNCTIONING. I TRIED TO SLAM THE BRAKE, BUT THE CAR DIDN'T STOP. THANKFULLY, THERE WEREN'T LOTS OF CAR ON THE ROAD. I DROVE ON THE SIDE GRASS FOR FEW HUNDRED YARDS AND FINALLY MANAGED TO STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE NEXT DAY, I TOOK IT TO THE NEAR BY SHOP AND THEY SUGGESTED THAT I SHOULD REPLACE THE BRAKE SINCE THE CAR WASN'T ABLE TO STOP. AFTER SPENDING $650 TO REPLACE THE BRAKES AND BRAKE PADS, I LEFT THE SHOP. AFTER 6 MONTHS THE CHECK VSC SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I'VE TO REPLACE ABS BRAKE ACTUATOR AND QUOTED ME AROUND $3700. I DIDN'T HAVE THAT MUCH MONEY TO SPEND, SO I STARTED SEARCHING FOR ALTERNATIVE ON THE INTERNET. THAT IS WHEN, I RAN IN TO THIS SITE WHERE PEOPLE ARE REPORTING THE ISSUES THAT THEIR 2007-2008 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID ARE HAVING. I WOULD LIKE TOYOTA TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE AND FIX MY CAR. I NEED A WAY TO GET AROUND AND GO TO WORK. THIS IS MY ONLY SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION AND I NEED IT ON THE ROAD AGAIN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU! *TR
NOVEMBER OF 2013, IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE THAT MY VEHICLE WAS BURNING OIL. THIS WOULD LEAD TO A SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE WHICH COULD LEAD TO FATAL COMPLICATIONS SUCH AS A FIRE. I AM OFFICIALLY FILING A COMPLAINT AGAINST TOYOTA REGARDING THIS ISSUE. CONCERNED, I PERFORMED AN OFFICIAL OIL CHANGE AT A LOCAL TOYOTA BRANCH. APPROXIMATELY 800 MILES SINCE THAT OIL CHANGE, NEARLY ALL OF THE OIL HAD BURNED OFF. I SPOKE WITH A TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO 'CUSTOMER CARE CENTER' THAT DEALS WITH THIS ISSUE. IT IS VITAL TO RAISE ATTENTION TO THIS ISSUE AS IT IS A SEVERELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM NOT ONLY FOR THE DRIVER BUT FOR THE PUBLIC. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A VEHICLE, MERELY FIVE YEARS SINCE PRODUCTION, WHICH HAS BEEN HEAVILY BRANDED AS RELIABLE TO HAVE SUCH A POOR PERFORMANCE. GIVEN THE RESPONSES I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING FROM TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE, IT IS EVEN MORE JARRING THAT SUCH A REPUTABLE COMPANY AS TOYOTA WOULD TAKE SUCH MATTERS SO LIGHTLY. *TR
THE DRIVERS SIDE VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP. VERY DANGEROUS. MY HUSBAND IS TALLER AND IT AFFECTS HIS RANGE OV VISION AND PLUS IT IS ANNOYING. LOOKED ONLINE AND SEE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE VISORS. I AM TAKING IT TO A DEALER TO SEE IF ITS COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY, IF NOT, I WILL CONTACT TOYOTA DIRECTLY TO CORRECT THIS VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
DASH IS MELTING. SHINY SPOTS ARE AFFECTING VISION. CANNOT CLEAN IT. WHEELS ARE RUSTED, ALL PAINT IS GONE. DEALER SAID THEY CANNOT FIX. SAID IT IS MY FAULT. *JS
OVERNIGHT MY 2008 CAMRY SOLARA DASHBOARD HAS MULTIPLE CRACKS AND HAS BECOME TACKY AND SHINY. THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT CONTINUES TO PROGRESS TO CURRENT DATE. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT CAUSES A GLARE WHEN SUN IS IN DIRECTION OF TRAVEL OR SUN IS BELOW 70 DEGREE PLANE TO REFLECT OFF THE DASH SURFACE. POLARIZED SUNGLASSES DEFER SOME OF THE GLARE. THERE IS A SAFETY CONCERNED WITH THE CRACKS EXPANDING AND CHANGING AND THE GUMMY SURFACE BLENDING AROUND AIRBAG LOCATION WHICH WILL PREVENT PASSENGER AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. TOYOTA USA AND DEALER WILL REPAIR AT MY COST WITH A VERY NOMINAL COST ADJUSTMENT ABOUT 20% FOR REPLACING THE DASH SURFACE. THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE, ALWAYS GARAGE KEPT AT WORK OR RESIDENCE. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF TOYOTA CARS OR PERHAPS TENS OF THOUSANDS WITH THE SAME ISSUE OVER MULTIPLE MANUFACTURER YEARS. THE DEFECT BECOMES AN ISSUE SHORTLY AFTER THE CARS PASS THE WARRANTY PERIOD. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK THAT DAY, I SUDDENLY FELT THAT THE BRAKES LOST POWER -- I HAD TO PRESS THEM MUCH HARDER TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN EVEN BY A SMALL AMOUNT. MANY LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WENT ON, INCLUDING SOMETHING LIKE "CHECK VSC" ON THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY. I FELT THAT THE DANGER OF GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT WAS VERY HIGH, PARTICULARLY GIVEN THAT I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY. DRIVING VERY SLOWLY, I MANAGED TO SAFELY GET TO WORK. WHEN I GOT INTO THE CAR A FEW HOURS LATER, THE SITUATION DID NOT REPEAT ITSELF AND IT DROVE NORMALLY. STILL SHAKEN, I BROUGHT THE CAR OVER TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT MY ABS ACTUATOR HAS GONE BAD. THE BEST "DISCOUNT" PRICE I WAS ABLE TO FIND WAS $2,500. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND REALIZED THAT THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON. I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE TO COMPLAIN AND REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT, BUT THEY REFUSED. SINCE I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO ADDRESS THIS SAFETY ISSUE, I FIXED THE CAR AT A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. HOWEVER, SINCE THIS IS MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM, WHICH IS APPARENTLY QUITE WIDESPREAD, I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA MUST RECALL AND REPLACE THE PROBLEMATIC PART, AND COMPENSATE THE OWNERS WHO HAD TO DO IT ON THEIR OWN. *TR
THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY CAMRY HAS COME LOOSE AND IT DROPS INTO MY VIEW WHILE DRIVING. OTHER PEOPLE HAVE POSTED THE SAME COMPLAINT. *TR
DASH BOARD IS EXTREMELY STICKY AND SHINY CAUSING DRIVING VISIBILITY TO BE VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE ANYTHING IS DONE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. A YEAR AGO, THE VISOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE DROOP ALITTLE AND MY HUSBAND TRIED TO FIX IT BUT IT BROKE AND WAS HANGING. WE END UP PURCHASING A NEW VISOR FOR ABOUT $100 AND I DON'T WANT TO USE IT BECAUSE OF THE RISK OF HAVING TO PAY ANOTHER $100 TO FIX IT. JUST RECENTLY, THE VISOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BROKE AND NOW IT IS HANGING. IT IS DANGEROUS FOR ME BECAUSE I'M ON THE HIGHWAY ALL THE TIME AND THE VISOR BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IT BLOCKS MY VIEW FROM SEEING OTHER VEHICLE MERGING IN OR SWITCHING LANE. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON FIXING THIS ISSUE AS IT IS DANGEROUS. *TR
HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. 6 MONTHS AGO I BROUGHT IT IN TO RIGHT TOYOTA FOR SERVICE DUE TO AN ISSUE WITH MY BRAKES. AFTER $6200, $2587 OF WITH WAS FOR A 'BRAKE ACCUATOR' THE CAR WAS 'FIXED'. TWO WEEKS AGO MY BRAKES ACTED UP AGAIN WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE BRAKES CATCH OR GRAB WITHOUT WARNING, AND SOMETIMES I HAVE TO PRESS THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR BOARDS TO STOP THE CAR. I HAVE ALMOST HAD 2 INCIDENTS WHERE AN ACCIDENT COULD HAVE OCCURRED. I FEEL UNSAFE IN THE VEHICLE AN THE DEALER NOR TOYOTA USA HAS RESPONDED TO MY COMPLAINTS. NOW THE DEALER IS STATED IT IS A DIFFERENT PROBLEM AND NOT THE ACCUATOR. MY LITE CAME ON RECENTLY ABOUT THE VSC NEEDS TO BE CHECKED. *JS
ORIGINAL ACTUATOR HAD BEEN REPLACED. NOW, HAVING MORE BRAKING PROBLEMS THAN BEFORE! DEALERSHIP RESET TWICE, PROBLEM IS RETURNING AND DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO REPLACE AGAIN, OR RESET. BRAKES WILL GRAB AND/OR MAKE LOUD 'CLUNKING' SOUNDS. INTERMITTENT. *TR

MY SON AND A FRIEND WERE DRIVING IN A NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN A DRIVER FAILED TO STOP AT HER INTERSECTION. HE T-BONED HER VEHICLE AND THE TOYOTA CLIPPED HER FORD EXPLORER MAKING HER CAR AIRBORNED. HER VEHICLE FISHTAILED REAR END OF VEHICLE INTO A TREE WITH OUR TOYOTA ATTACHED TO FRONT END. OUR ENTIRE FRONT END IS SMASHED IN AND BOTH AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOYED. *TR
THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING. IT HAS BECOME VERY STICKY AND SHINNY. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE OUT THE FRONT WINDOW DUE TO THE GLARE FROM THE DASHBOARD ON SUNNY DAYS. I AM WORRIED THAT THE GLARE MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *JS
THE DASHBOARD OF MY CAMRY SE BEGAN TO CRYSTALLIZE AND BECAME STICKY TO THE TOUCH. IT IS NOW SO STICKY THAT THE LEAST TOUCH AND NICK PULLS THE VINYL RIGHT OFF. IT IS SO SHINY THAT IT GIVES OFF A REFLECTION WHILE DRIVING. IT IS VERY DISTRACTING WHEN DRIVING AS IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IS IN YOUR EYES. THE GLARE MAKES FOR A DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE YOUR JUDGMENT IS AFFECTED. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BY THE DEALER. I HAVE SEVERAL OTHERS WITH CAMRYS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
THE DASHBOARD SEEMS TO BE MELTING WITH SUN EXPOSURE, IT'S ALSO VERY STICKY. IT CAUSES A BAD GLARE ON WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. A RECALL IS URGENTLY NEEDED FOR SAFETY REASONS. *TR
THE DASHBOARD OF MY SOLARA IS MELTING AND BECOMING VERY STICKY AND BECOMES BLINDINGLY SHINY. IT ALSO HAS CRACKS AND CAUSES A FILM TO DEVELOP ON THE INTERIOR OF THE WINDSHIELD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT FREQUENTLY ADDED ENGINE OIL TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, TOYOTA SAYS IT IS WITHIN THEIR STANDARDS. HAVE TO ADD QUART OF OIL EVERY THOUSAND MILES. TOYOTA SAYS THIS IS WITHIN THEIR STANDARDS, HOWEVER THEY DONT TELL YOU THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS AND PROVIDED A FIX TO DEALERS. MOST TIMES IT HAPPENS THOUGH AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRES. *TR
WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED IT CAUSES DISTORTED MOVEMENT AND THE WHEEL IS DIFFICULT TO TURN. IT ALSO PRODUCES HARSH NOISE. THIS MAY CAUSE VEHICLE MANEUVERING PROBLEM AND MAY LEAD TO CRASHES. *TR
AT 80K MILES, MY CARS STARTED TO MAKE STRANGE AND LOUD NOISE WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BREAK EVEN WHEN THE CAR STOPPED OR THE ENGINE IS OFF. A TOYOTA DEALER TOLD ME THE BREAK ACTUATOR WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO REPLACE TO AVOID RUNNING INTO THE BREAK PROBLEM. I SPENT $3200 TO REPLACE THE BREAK ACTUATOR AT THAT DEALER. 08 CAMRY OIL COMSUMPTION,USING TO MUCH OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGE,GOT TOYOTA NOTICE IN THE MAIL ABOUT PROBLEM,WHEN I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA THEY SAID MY CAMRY PASS THE TEST AND WAS NOT WARRANTY ANYTHING.I TOLD THEM THAT IT SMOKES ON START UP AND THAT IS A INDICATION THAT THE ENG IS BURNING OIL,STILL NO HELP I HAVE A 94 CAMRY WITH NO PROBLEM.NOW I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT WITHOUT DAMAGE MY ENGINE BECAUSE IT SMOKES,NEVER AGAIN A TOYOTA PRODUCT I WILL BUY,I NEED TOYOTA TO PAY FOR REPAIRS SINCE THEY NO IT WAS A PROBLEM.I ONLY HAD 60 TO 70 THOUSAND MILES WHEN IT STARTED USING OIL AND SMOKING.
IN SUMMER OF 2013, POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED ON 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. CAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER, TURN AND PARK BUT HAD TO BE DRIVEN, THOUGH UNSAFE TO DRIVE, FOR 3 DAYS WHILE PUMP WAS ORDERED AND REPLACED. IN THE WEEK BEFORE THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED, THE ENGINE WAS FOUND TO BE BURNING OIL AND HAD TO BE REBUILT. DURING THIS SAME MONTH (AUGUST, 2013), THE GAS COVER COULD NOT BE OPENED TO REFILL THE GAS TANK WHILE OUT OF TOWN, REQUIRING A TEMPORARY CABLE FIX BY AN OUT-OF-TOWN DEALER. IN THE SUMMER OF 2014, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) ACTUATOR FAILED, ALSO CAUSING LOSS OF SPEEDOMETER, TEMPERATURE AND TACHOMETER FUNCTIONS. ABS ACTUATOR PART WAS ORDERED AND REPLACED. THEN A WEEK LATER, THE BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON MULTIPLE TIMES), LEAKING WHEN BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED. THESE ARE JUST THE MAJOR SAFETY FAILURES OF THIS 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY, WHICH HAS HAD OTHER PROBLEMS, PURCHASED NEW IN 2007 AND MAINTAINED BY THE SAME DEALER. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE OR RELIABLE TO DRIVE. *TR
AFTER 95,000 MILES OF USAGE THE SUN VISOR HAS DECIDED TO COME APART AND I'M NO LONGER ABLE TO USE IT TO BLOCK THE SUN OR STORE IT IN A SAFE MANNER. EVERY PASSING DAY IT SEEMS THE VISOR GETS LOWER AND LOWER UNTIL I CAN NO LONGER SEE THE ROAD CORRECTLY. I ALMOST HAVE TO DRIVE HOLDING THE SUN VISOR UP. IT DOESN'T FEEL SAFE BUT I DON'T YET HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPLACE IT. AND EVEN IF I DID REPLACE IT, IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT HAPPENS AGAIN FROM WHAT I'VE BEEN READING. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 45 MPH AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURED NOSE AND BRUISING TO THE FACE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.

HAVE 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE. DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND SEEMS TO BE MELTING. HAVE FIDELITY PLATINUM WARRANTY, THEY REFUSED TO COVER IT. TOYOTA REGIONAL DIRECTOR OFFERED TO COVER THE REPAIR AT 50% WHICH WOULD BE OVER $800 OUT OF MY POCKET. THIS IS A FACTORY FLAW AND THE AMOUNT OF INCIDENTS REPORTED ONLINE IS STAGGERING... RE: RECALL POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH THIS VEHICLE IS SHOWING RECALL ITEM NOT TAKEN CARE OF. LONG AGO I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY CONFERENCE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP. THE SHOP KEEPS SAYING THEY ALREADY ADDRESSED THIS RECALL, BUT THE MANUFACTURER SAYS IT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. THE SHOP SAYS I CAME IN ON A SELF PAY BASIS AND THEY ALREADY DID MY SAFETY RECALL BUT THE RECORDS SHOW IT WAS NEVER DONE. TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, THEY SHOULD JUST COMPLETE THE SERVICE, OR RE DO IT IF THAT'S THE CASE, (IF IT WAS ALREADY DONE) I HAVE NO IDEA IF ITS SAFE TO DRIVE. A SPIDER GOT INTO THE A/C DRAINAGE TUBE CAUSING WATER TO DRIP INSIDE OF THE CAR. THIS CAUSED THE AIRBAG LIGHT TO GO ON IN THE CAR. PRIOR TO BRINGING IT TO THE DEALER I CLEANED OUT THE CAR AND NOTICED THE FLOOR WAS SOAKING WET UNDER ALL OF THE MATS. THE DEALER TOLD ME I COULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THAT IT IS DANGEROUS. I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE PLATINUM WARRANTY I TOOK OUT WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS EVEN THOUGH IT'S A HAZARD. TODAY I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON CAMRYS, AVALONS AND OTHERS BUT FOR THE 2012 AND 13 MODELS. I CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE ME BECAUSE MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT'S THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" WAS DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD. I HAD TO PUSH VERY HARD ON THE BREAKS TO MAKE THE CAR STOP AND LUCKILY I DID NOT CRASH INTO ANYONE. IT'S HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, ON THE FREEWAY, EVEN WHEN I WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE! I TURNED THE ENGINE ON AND BEFORE I PUT IT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE, ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS WOULD DISPLAY AND THE BREAKS WOULD FAIL. NOW THE NEW PROBLEM IS EVERY TIME I STEP ON THE BREAKS, MY CAR 'BARKS' OR 'CHIRPS' REPEATEDLY AT ME. I CAN PUSH LIGHTLY AND GET LESS OF A BARK BUT FOR THE MOST PART, IT TAKES A GREAT DEAL OF EFFORT TO STOP THE VEHICLE. MY FATHER IS A MECHANIC AND HE'S HOOKED UP THE COMPUTER TO THE CAR BUT SINCE THE 'CHECK VSC SYSTEM" IS NOT DISPLAYED WHEN IT'S HOOKED UP, HE CAN'T TELL WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. IN AN UNRELATED COMPLAINT, WHEN THE WEATHER GETS HOT, AROUND 80 DEGREES, THE STEREO SYSTEM GOES BLANK AND SPITS OUT ALL OF MY CDS AND WILL NOT TURN ON. THEN IT WILL HAVE LINES ACROSS THE SCREEN AND DISPLAY "SCAN" ON THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER. IT WILL NOT TURN OFF OR ON UNLESS I USE THE CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL. AFTER IT COOLS, IT WILL WORK AGAIN. *TR
MY DASH ON MY CAMRY IS STICKY AND SHINY. WHEN THE SUN HITS MY DASH IT CAUSES A GLARE ON MY WINDSHIELD. THERE IS DOCUMENTATION ONLINE ABOUT SOME CAMRY'S HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS. THIS IS A DEFECT WITH THE CAR AND TOYOTA REFUSES TO REPLACE THE DASH FOR FREE. I AM TOLD THE PRICE TO REPLACE THE DASH IS $1,586 AND THAT THE DEALERSHIP WILL GIVE A 10% DISCOUNT. THE TOYOTA CORPORATE OFFICE I CONTACTED STATED THEY WOULD OFFER ASSISTANCE TO FIX THE DASH AND MY PORTION WOULD BE AROUND $700-$750. I FEEL LIKE THIS SHOULD BE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE AS THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
