IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND WHY TOYOTA HAS NOT BEEN ADVISED AND DEMANDED TO RECALL TOYOTA CAMRY YEAR MODELS 2008 WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY ISSUES WITH REGARD TO THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY FAILING IN THESE VEHICLES. AFTER READING AN EXTENDED VOLUME OF COMPLAINTS ON MANY SITES AND BLOGS WITH REGARD TO THE FAILING OF THESE ASSEMBLIES, I NOW SEE THAT NHTSA HAS DEMANDED TOYOTA AND LEXUS RECALL 2013 AND 2014 YEAR MODELS BECAUSE OF THIS SAME DEFECTIVE ISSUE. WHY IS TOYOTA NOT BEING DEMANDED TO RECALL ALL YEAR MODELS THAT HAVE THESE DEFECTIVE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLIES???? IT IS INCOMPREHENSIBLE TO ME THAT A RECALL CAN BE MADE OR DEMANDED FOR A CURRENT YEAR MODEL HOWEVER ALL OF US WHO OWN 2008 TOYOTA VEHICLES (ESPECIALLY AND NO EXPLAINABLE REASON, CAMRY'S) HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH NO CONCERN. WILL IT TAKE A DEATH OR MUTILATION TO FURTHER NHTSA TO MANDATE THAT TOYOTA TO RECALL A TOTALLY DEFECTIVE BRAKE SYSTEM PART. TOYOTA DEMANDS APPROXIMATELY $4,000 TO REPLACE THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY IN THESE 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY'S. THAT IS ROBBERY WITHOUT A WEAPON. WHY WILL CURRENT YEAR 2013 AND 2014 TOYOTA AND LEXUS OWNERS GET THEIR CARS REPAIRED "GRATIS". I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR AN EXPLANATION OF WHY 2013 AND 2014 TOYOTA AND LEXUS OWNERS WILL RECEIVE A "COMPLIMENTARY" RECALL OF THE BRAKE ACTUATOR DEFECT WHILE WE ALL DRIVE A 2008 CAMRY WITH SQUEAKING, JERKING, SLAMS TO A STOP WHEN STARTING IN REVERSE AND SHORT OF IT SOUNDING LIKE IT WILL BREAK AT ANY MOMENT WITH ALL THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS BEAMING (AND CANNOT GET THE CAR INSPECTED FOR LEGAL ROAD USE BECAUSE OF THE BRAKE ISSUE). PLEASE PLEASE VALUE THE 2008 CAMRY OWNERS. BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THIS DEFECT IS NOT CREATED BY THE CAR OWNER. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 40MPH AND WAS COMING UPON A RED STOPLIGHT. I STARTED TO BRAKE AND NOTHING HAPPENED. THERE WERE NO BRAKES, I LOOKED DOWN AND THE MESSAGE CENTER SAID CHECK VSC SYSTEM. I WAS ABLE TO SWERVE INTO THE TURN LANE TO AVOID HITTING THE CARS THAT WERE STOPPED AT THE LIGHT AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP. AFTER LEAVING THE CAR OFF FOR 5 MINUTES ALL WAS NORMAL. *JS
THIS 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA, ~37K MILES, USES THE SAME HEADLIGHT BULB TYPES AS THE 2008 TOYOTA AVALON, 9011 FOR HIGH BEAMS AND I HAD BOTH HIGH BEAMS GO OUT ON A WINDING ROAD IN BACK COUNTRY OF WISCONSIN WITH MANY DEER AND OTHER MOVING NIGHT CREATURES. BOTH HIGH BEAM BULBS SHATTERED DURING THIS TRIP, LEAVING GLASS FRAGMENTS INSIDE THE LENS ASSEMBLY AND IT ALSO LEFT A WHITE DISCOLORATION (TUNGSTEN DEPOSITION?) ON THE INSIDE PLASTIC LENSES OF ONE HEADLIGHT, WHICH SEEMS TO REDUCE THE LOW BEAM VISIBILITY. NHTSA REFERENCE # 10037591 TSB REFERENCE # SB-0044-10 REV 1 DESCRIPTION: TOYOTA: ON SOME 2008-2010 AVALON VEHICLES, THE HIGH BEAM LIGHT BULBS MAY NOT WORK OR SHATTER. THIS 2008 SOLARA WAS PUT INTO SERVICE IN APRIL OF 2008 AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE 72K MILE, 5 YEAR WARRANTY EXTENSION, JUST LIKE THE 2008 AVALON RECALL. HOW COME ONLY THE AVALON WAS COVERED? I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD ALSO APPLY TO THE 2008 SOLARA MODEL ALSO AS IT USES A VERY SIMILAR HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND SUFFERS FROM THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASH BOARD WAS MELTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
I WAS CLEANING MY DASHBOARD AND NOTICED THE INTERIOR WAS WIPING OFF WITH IT. AS I CONTINUED CLEANING... IT LEFT GASHES... AND LENT FROM THE CLEANING CLOTH STUCK TO THE DASHBOARD. RECENTLY, I NOTICE A GLARE ( THE SAME EFFECT A MIRROR HAS WHEN LIGHT HITS IT) COMING FROM THE DASHBOARD AS WELL. I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE COULD BE INTERNAL PROBLEMS OCCURRING UNDERNEATH THE DASHBOARD FROM ALL OF THE MELTING. I HOPE THERE IS SOMETHING THAT CAN BE DONE NOW INSTEAD OF LATER BEFORE MORE PROBLEMS OCCUR. *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL BEARING HAD DETERIORATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CONTACT MILEAGES WERE 29,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OIL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ADDED OIL TO THE VEHICLE AFTER NOTICING THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE RESERVOIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN AVAILABLE STATING THAT HER MODEL VEHICLE CONSUMED LARGE AMOUNTS OF OIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION
THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND VERY HARD TO CLEAN ESPECIALLY ON HOT WEATHER.
THE WATER PUMP FAILED RESULTING IN ENGINE OVER HEATING - POTENTIALLY DISABLING VEHICLE. *TR
WHEN BRAKING, I NOTICED THE ENGINE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND IT WAS EXTREMELY LOW. I CALLED TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE WE HAD THE OIL CHANGE DONE AND THEY RECOMMENDED A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. WHEN THEY TESTED MY VEHICLE, THEY NOTICED THAT THE OIL WAS LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE PISTON RINGS. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I NEEDED A ENGINE REPLACEMENT WHICH WOULD COST $6000. SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW AND ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR 5 YEARS-THIS WAS A BIG SHOCK. I BOUGHT TOYOTA BECAUSE OF ITS REPUTATION AND I HAD ALWAYS KEPT UP WITH ALL MY MAINTENANCE AT THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT AND I FEEL TOYOTA SHOULD COMPENSATE FOR THIS DEFECT. PLEASE MAKE A RECALL AVAILABLE FOR THIS ISSUE SINCE THERE ARE NUMEROUS ONES EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKED AND THE CRACKS EXPANDED TO THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000. UPDATED 6/22/15*CN
MY CAR HAS BEEN EXCESSIVELY BURN OIL. IN 2014 I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA. THIS LETTER ADVISE ME TO HAVE A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. I HAVE HAD 2 THE DEALER IS TELLING ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG, THAT OIL BURRING IS NORMAL. I HAVE TO PUT OIL IN MY CAR AT LEAST 3 TIMES IN ONE MONTH. MY OIL LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON TO NOTIFY ME THAT ME OIL IS DANGEROUSLY LOW AT LEAST TWO TIME BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORST AND TOYOTA REFUSES TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM DESPITE THE LETTER AND THEM KNOWING THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH TOYOTA CAMARYS . I DO NOT WHAT ELSE TO DO
TOYOTA ENGINES IN THE MODEL YEARS 2006 TO 2010 ARE DEFECTIVE IN THAT SOME BURN MORE THAN 1 QT OF OIL PER 1000 MILES. TOYOTA WILL TEST AND FIX FOR THE CONDITION ONLY WHEN A CUSTOMER COMPLAINS ABOUT THE CONSUMPTION. A SERVICE MANAGER SAID THEY HAVE A PROBLEM, BUT WILL NOT DO A FORMAL RECALL. THIS IS ANOTHER COVER-UP BY TOYOTA. A BAD ENGINE CAN BE A SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR AN UNRELATED REPAIR WHEN THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT THE FRONT STRUTS WERE LEAKING OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD OF THE CAR IS MELTING. IT IS VERY STICKY, SOFT AND CANNOT BE TOUCHED. IT APPEARS WET AND SLICK AND IS MAKING A GLARE APPEAR WHEN YOU LOOK OUT OF THE FRONT WINDOW. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS IT IS IMPAIRING THE DRIVER'S VISION. *JS
WENT TO HAVE MY TIRES ROTATED AND FOUND THAT ALL 4 OF THE STRUTS ON THE CAR ARE LEAKING. SINCE THIS CAR IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND 56K IN MILES THESE STRUTS SHOULD NOT BE LEAKING. THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT BUT TOYOTA DOES NOT REPLACE/REPAIR THESE EXCEPT AT FULL COST. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN COLD WEATHER THE CHECK VSC SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON AND THE POWER BRAKES CEASE TO FUNCTION. I HAVE TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL VERY HARD IN ORDER TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT THIS IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY ACCUMULATOR AND GIVES THE ERROR CODE C1391. I CREATED A WEBSITE TO SEE IF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AND TO MY SURPRISE I HAVE QUITE A FEW COMMENTS POSTED TO MY GUESTBOOK. YOU CAN VIEW THE SITE AT HTTP://CHECKVSCSYSTEM.COM. THIS PART SHOULD NOT BE DEFECTIVE IN A VEHICLE WITH LOW MILEAGE AND IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. I HAVE HAD TIMES WHERE I AM DRIVING AND THE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE BRAKES CEASE TO FUNCTION PROPERLY AND HAVE ALMOST REAR ENDED A CAR. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED WITH TOYOTA SO THAT NO ONE GETS INJURED. *TR
AS I WAS PREPARING TO CROSS A 4 LANE HIGHWAY WITH A MEDIAN, TWO GEORGIA STATE PATROL CARS WERE SITTING IN THE MEDIAN. I PROCEEDED TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY WHEN ONE OF THE PATROL CARS TURNED ON HIS HEADLIGHTS. I FROZE, I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT. AT THAT MOMENT, I WAS STRUCK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BY A CAR SPEEDING AT 73 MPH. I SUSTAINED A HEAD INJURY AND HAD TO BE CUT OUT OF THE CAR. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE VISOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 71,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AS THE TRIANGLE WARNING SYMBOL ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN TEN DAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE SUN VISOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WILL NO LONGER STAY IN PLACE. IT NOW DANGLES AND BLOCKS THE VIEW OF THE DRIVER. *TR
THE HORIZONTAL DASHBOARD SURFACE UNDER THE WINDSHIELD IS MELTING. IT BEGAN ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO AS A "STICKY" PROBLEM AND HAS PROGRESSIVELY DETERIORATED. THE GLARE MAKES IT VERY UNSAFE IN SUNNY CONDITIONS BECAUSE IT INTERFERES WITH THE DRIVERS ABILITY TO SEE THE ROAD THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. THIS MAKES IT HAZARDOUS FOR ME TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE UNDER PRESENT CONDITIONS. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING TO REMOVE THE STICKINESS BUT NOTHING WORKS. THE PROBLEM IS PARTICULARLY ACUTE DURING WARM CONDITIONS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A FUNDAMENTAL DEFECT IN THE PART AND SHOULD BECOME PART OF A RECALL AND REPLACEMENT AT THE MANUFACTURERS EXPENSE. *TR
DUE TO THE DETERIORATION OF THE DASHBOARD, WHERE IT IS BASICALLY MELTING AND VERY SHINY AND STICKY, WHEN DRIVING IN THE DIRECTION OF THE SUN, THE SUNS RAYS REFLECTING OFF OF THE DASH BASICALLY ARE A BLINDING FACTOR ON VISIBILITY OF THE DRIVER. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE CLEARLY THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CARE CENTER AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE WITH THE DASH DETERIORATION TO THEM. THEIR REP ACKNOWLEDGED THEY RECOGNIZED OTHER OWNERS HAD REPORTED AN ISSUE WITH THE DASH BUT UNLESS THE CAR WAS UNDER ORIGINAL WARRANTY, THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION. THE REP ALSO NOTED TOYOTA DETERMINED THE CAUSE TO BE "ENVIRONMENTAL" AND PRIMARILY OCCURRING IN FLORIDA, WHERE I LIVE. IN RESEARCHING OTHER OWNERS COMPLAINTS ON-LINE, THIS ISSUE IS CLEARLY SYSTEMIC. AND, THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS CONDITION EFFECTING VISIBILITY. HAS THE NHTSA INVESTIGATED THE POTENTIAL SAFETY CONCERN TO THE PUBLIC DUE TO TOYOTA'S SYSTEMIC DEFECT IN 2008 AND 2007 CAMRY'S THEY HAVE SOLD? I CAN PROVIDE PHOTOS UPON REQUEST. *TR
THE VEHICLE IS BURNING EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL. I RECEIVED THE PAPER FROM TOYOTA THREE MONTHS AGO THAT THEY ARE PROCESSING TO BUILD THE PART FOR THE SOLUTION OF BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL.(THE PAPER DOES SHOW ABOUT THE REACALL OF EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL BURNING THEY SAID I WILL RECEIVE THE LETTER IN TWO MONTHS TO FIX THE PROBLEM FROM THE DEALERSHIP SINCE THEN I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY LETTER FOR THE RECALL.) THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,104.

EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION I OWN A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY LE THE CURRANT MILEAGE IS 149,000 MILES. IT BURNS ONE QUART OF OIL EVERY 250 MILES, AND IT'S COSTING ME A LOT OF A MONEY. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT ONLY FROM ME THEIR ARE MUCH MORE PEOPLE COMPLAINING ONLINE. IN ADDITION TO THAT THEIR IS LAWSUIT AGAINST TOYOTA BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO TAKE ACTION AND MAKE THIS A RECALL FOR ALL VEHICLES THAT ARE AFFECTED. I ALSO FEEL VERY SORRY FOR THE OTHER OWNERS BECAUSE I KNOW HOW IT FEELS, SO PLEASE HELP. THANKS

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FRONT END STRUTS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE STRUTS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,124. UPDATED 11/14/12*LJ THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THERE WAS AN INTERNAL FAILURE OF THE STRUT. THE TWO REAR STRUTS HAVE SINCE FAILED.
THE DASHBOARD OF THIS CAR BECAME VERY SOFT AND BEGAN MELTING IN AREAS. IT WAS REPORTED TO MAROONE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT TOYOTA. THEY DID NOT PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO GET WORSE AND THE DASHBOARD IS DETERIORATING. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BUT THE TRANSMISSION CONTINUED TO SLIP. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NOT REMAIN IN AN UPWARD POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND THE VISOR CLIP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD COVER HALF OF THE REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE PADS, THE FRONT ROTORS WERE TURNED AND RESURFACED, THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND BOOTH WAS REPLACED, AND THE REAR ROTORS WERE TURNED AND RESURFACED. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS EXHIBITING AN ABNORMAL A NOISE BUT HE ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT AT THE NEXT SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, THE BRAKE BOOSTER SHOULD BE CHECKED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER LATER FAILED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP. AS A RESULT, THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED AT THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,158.
I AM SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT, BECAUSE I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR COLLISIONS DUE TO POOR WINDSHIELD VISIBILITY CAUSED BY MELTING DASHBOARD ON MY 2008, TOYOTA CAMRY. I FIRST NOTIFIED TOYOTA CORPORATE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE DASHBOARD DETERIORATING IN SEPT OF 2012 AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT A WARRANTIED ITEM. THE FIRST NEAR ACCIDENT DUE TO POOR VISIBILITY(STICKY RESIDUE ON WINDSHIELD) OCCURRED IN OCT, 201. I MENTIONED THE MELTING DASHBOARD PROBLEM AND VISIBILITY TO MY DEALER(ED MORSE TOYOTA, DEL RAY, FL) AT MY NEXT OIL CHANGE AND THEY QUOTED ME A PRICE OF $1760.66 TO REPAIR, SOMETIME AROUND OCT 2012. THE RESIDUE HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY WORSE AND DUE TO MY AGE(81) IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO CLEAN OFF THE WINDSHIELD USING STANDARD HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS. AFTER WATCHING A NEWS REPORT ON WFLX, WEST PALM BEACH BY [XXX] I CALLED AGAIN(MAY 2, 2014) AND WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER. I WAS DRIVING ON I-94 HIGHWAY, TRIED TO OPEN MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WINDOW USING MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR WINDOW SWITCH. THE SWITCH DID NOT WORK. ABOUT 30 SECONDS LATER MY CAR FILLED WITH SMOKE AND I SAW THE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR PANEL. I PULLED OVER AND AFTER A COUPLE MINUTES THE SMOKE STOPPED. WHEN STATIONARY AT TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. WHEN A/C IS TURNED ON AND BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED THE ENTIRE CAR IS DRASTICALLY SHAKING AN VIBRATING BEYOND CONTROLLABILITY. WHEN GEAR IS IN NEUTRAL THE HEAVY VIBRATION IS GONE AWAY. WAS TOLD BY SERVICE MANAGER THAT THIS IS AN NORMAL BEHAVIOR OF ALL CARS PAST 40,000 MILES. WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO LET THE VEHICLE LEARN MY DRIVING HABITS AGAIN SINCE THE NEW THROTTLE BODY COMPONENT WAS INSTALLED. ONCE THE UNIT WAS INSTALLED CORRECTLY AGAIN ENGINE LIGHTS KEPT COMING ON THUS RETURNING BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. TOOK 3 ATTEMPTS TO COMPLETE THE ENGINE LITE ISSUE BUT THE VIOLENT SHAKING AND VIBRATION IS STILL GOING ON. *TR

I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME THAT THE SUN VISOR MALFUNCTION WAS COMMON AND IT WOULD COST $200 TO FIX IT. THIS CAR IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND I THINK THAT THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT THAT COULD CAUSE MAJOR ACCIDENTS. I WAS FORTUNATE AND WAS ABLE TO STOP , BUT OTHERS MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. MY VISOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WILL NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION OR DOWN AGAINST TOWARDS THE WINDSHIELD BLOCKING THE SUN. IT SEEMS TO BE DEFECTIVE. I CALLED TOYOTA TO SEE HOW MUCH IT COST TO REPLACE THE PART. I WAS ADVISED $148.00 FOR THE PART. HOWEVER THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD ALSO HAD THIS VISOR REPLACED PRIOR TO ME PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A BIG DEAL WITH ALOT OF THE TOYOTA VISORS, BUT YET THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS ITEM. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE FIXED AND NOT AT MY EXPENSE AS THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN. IF YOU PUT THE VISOR IN THE UP POSITION AGAINST THE TOP OF THE CAR, IT WILL CONTINUE TO FALL DOWN IN FRONT OF MY VIEW. IF YOU PUSH IT FORWARD TOWARDS THE WINDOW IT AGAIN WILL COME BACK TOWARDS ME. IF I WERE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, IT IS RIGHT AT MY HEAD LEVEL AND COULD CAUSE SEVERE INJURY. *TR

LAST YEAR MY PASSENGER SIDE VISOR WENT DOWN WITH NO APPARENT REASON. I DIDN'T THINK ABOUT IT MUCH, I THOUGHT IT WAS A PASSENGER PULLED IT DOWN TOO HARD, AND I REPLACED IT WITH A USED VISOR FROM EBAY. LAST WEEK, MY DRIVER SIDE VISOR BROKE AND WENT DOWN, SO NOW I HAVE NO VISOR WHICH CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE. I STARTED LOOKING ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AND I SEE A LOT OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS. THIS IS DEFINITELY A DESIGN/MANUFACTURING FLAW FROM TOYOTA, BUT I SEE NO RECALL. I WENT TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY TO SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO. THEY ALMOST FIXED THE ISSUE WITH NO COST, BUT THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T ORDER A NEW ONE UNTIL TOYOTA ISSUES THE RECALL. NOW I HAVE TO WAIT MONTHS BEFORE THEY SEND ME A LETTER. *TR
