I HAVE WAITED UNTIL A GOOD YEAR HAS PASSED SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAMRY. DRIVING IN THE LOS ANGLES AREA I EXPERIENCE QUITE A FEW INCIDENCES WHERE I NEED TO BRAKE ABRUPTLY. I FIND THAT THE BRAKING IS CONTROLLED BY THE ABS SYSTEM, WHICH IS NOT RESPONDING TO MY REQUEST FOR A VERY QUICK STOP. IN MOST OF THESE INCIDENCES MY BRAKE PEDAL WILL BOTTOM OUT. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR WAS SERVICED, 11/7/08, AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT?S JUST THE WAY THE CAR, BRAKING SYSTEM, WAS DESIGNED BY TOYOTA. IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS HIT THE FLOOR OF THE CAR OVER 12 TIMES. 7 OF THEM I CAME TO CLOSE TO HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT AND FELT IT TOOK 30% (OR MORE) LONGER DISTANCE TO STOP THAN IT SHOULD HAVE. ALL OF THESE EVENTS HAVE OCCURRED WHILE GOING STRAIGHT IN DRY CONDITIONS, SO SKIDDING WAS NOT AN ISSUE. MY PREVIOUS TWO AUTOS, I30 AND ACURA, BOTH HAD ABS AND I NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS. AT THIS TIME I HAVE VERY LITTLE CONFIDENCE THAT I CAN BRAKE IN AN EMERGENCY. IT IS SO BAD MY WIFE WILL ONLY DRIVE THE CAR AS A LAST RESORT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. EVERYTIME HE STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE. SECONDLY, HE NOTICED THAT THE AUTOMATIC WINDOW ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WOULD NO LONGER GO ALL THE WAY DOWN WHEN THE CONTROL WAS PUSHED ONCE. HE CURRENTLY HAS TO KEEP HIS FINGER ON THE BUTTON IN ORDER FOR IT TO GO ALL THE WAY DOWN. THE DEALER ADVISED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,020 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,000.
TL*THE CONTACTS OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR RECALL 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL) BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE SUDDEN ACCELERATION AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE CONTACT STATED THE ACCELERATION OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHENEVER THE CONTACT PUTS THE VEHICLE INTO ANY GEAR THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY SURGE FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT HAD TO USE MORE THAN NORMAL BRAKING POWER. THE CONTACT HAS NOTICED THE FAILURE SINCE THE DAY THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED.THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 24000.
FYI: MY 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY ACCELERATED RAPIDLY MANY TIMES WHEN IT WAS A NEW CAR, AS WERE THE BRAKES! THIS STARTED WITHIN A WEEK OF MY PURCHASING THE CAR NEW. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD NOT TO WORRY AS THE COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS JUST LEARNING MY DRIVING HABITS. *TR
INTERMITTENT GAS PEDAL HESITATION AND THEN SUPER QUICK ACCELERATION, ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN ENTERING HIGHWAY. ALSO OCCURS IN LOCAL TRAFFIC. CONTACTED TOYOTA IN JAN., 2008 AND WAS TOLD ISSUE COULDN'T BE DUPLICATED - MY DRIVING. CONTACTED DEALER AT LEAST 3X THEN ESCALATED TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE IN APR. 2008. LAST CONTACT IN JUNE 2008 WHEN AUTO WAS "FIXED" PURSUANT TO TSB 0068-08. TROUBLE WAS BLAMED ON CALIBRATION IN THE COMPUTER. CAR WAS SOMEWHAT BETTER BUT THERE WAS A LATER INCIDENT IN FALL OF 2008 WHEN I ACCELERATED OVER A SPEED BUMP IN A PARKING LOT AND WAS TURNING LEFT INTO A PARKING SPACE. CAR SHOT FORWARD WENT THROUGH HEDGE AND OUT INTO BUSY STATE ROUTE 25A. ACCIDENT AVOIDED BY CONTINUING LEFT TURN ONTO BERM WHERE BRAKES FINALLY WORKED. DID NOT REPORT AS THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR PROPERTY DAMAGE. ALSO THOUGHT I COULD HAVE BEEN TO BLAME AS TOYOTA HAD BEEN "FIXED" AND I HAD BEEN ADVISED A NUMBER OF TIMES BEFORE THE "FIX" THAT COMPUTER RESPONDS TO INDIVIDUAL DRIVER'S ACTIONS. *TR
A FEW DAYS AFTER I TOOK POSSESSION OF MY 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY, THE SPLASH GUARD CAME OFF. I WAS TOLD THAT (1) I HAD GONE OVER SOMETHING AND PULLED IT OFF, OR (2) THE FACTORY MAY NOT HAVE TIGHTENED THE BOLTS ENOUGH. THE DEALER TIGHTENED THE BOLTS. A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE SAME THING OCCURRED. THIS TIME, I NOTICED THAT THE WHEELS WERE HITTING THE SPLASH GUARD WHEN I TURNED SHARPLY. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM BUT ALL THE DEALER DID WAS TIGHTEN THE BOLTS AGAIN. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE BOLTS WERE TIGHTENED, I NOTED THAT THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL SHARPLY. I FINALLY HAD A FREE DAY AND BROUGHT THE CAR IN AGAIN AND TOLD THE DEALER THAT THE SAME THING WAS HAPPENING. AGAIN, I AM BEING BLAMED FOR GOING OVER THINGS IN THE ROAD AND THEY REFUSE TO LOOK INTO THE SITUATION. I AM TRYING TO AVOID A DANGEROUS INCIDENT. WHAT CAN I DO TO INSIST THAT THE CAR BE GIVEN A THOROUGH SAFETY SCREENING AT NO COST TO ME? *TR

ON AUG. 28TH AND SEPT. 10TH - CAR ENGINE SHUTS OFF AND IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE CAUSEWAY BRIDGE. CAN CAUSE ACCIDENT AND POTENTIAL INJURY OR LIFE OF DRIVER. 3. LAKESIDE TOYOTA COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM ON AUG. 28TH OR 29TH. COMPUTER CHIP REGISTERED NO PROBLEMS. NO REPAIRS MADE. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY SE WITH A SIX SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AT ABOUT 750 MILES. IT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. I THOUGHT MAYBE THERE IS A BREAK IN PERIOD UNTIL IT SLIPPED WHEN I PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LOT ON TO A VERY BUSY STREET. THE TRANSMISSION JUST QUIT THE ENGINE RACED BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. AS I WAS IN TRAFFIC I TRIED TO COAST TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. I GUESS I STILL HAD MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THERE WAS A LOUD BANG AND THE TRANSMISSION STARTED WORKING AGAIN. AS I WAS TRYING TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD THE SUDDEN APPLICATION OF THE TRANSMISSION SHOT ME UP AND OVER THE CURB DAMAGING THE RIGHT SIDE WHEELS AND THE FRONT BUMPER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG AND THE TRANSMISSION HAD NO CODES AND THEY COULD DO NOTHING ABOUT MY CONCERN. I RESEARCHED THIS CONDITION ONLINE AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR TO SEE IF OTHERS WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I FOUND HUNDREDS OF CASES JUST LIKE MINE. ONE REFERRED ME TO TOYOTA WEB SITE. THERE WAS A PHONE NUMBER SO I CALLED AND TOLD THEM WHAT WAS HAPPENING. THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER AND TOLD ME THEY WOULD CONTACT ME. THE NEXT DAY A PAUL TIMBERLAKE FROM TOYOTA CALLED AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. HE MENTIONED THAT THE DEALER FOWLER TOYOTA IN NORMAN OKLAHOMA COULDN'T GET IT TO ACT UP. HE THEN TOLD ME "THE CONDITION WAS NORMAL." I WAS SHOCKED. I TOLD HIM THE BLACK SPOT ON THE CURB WAS STILL THERE. HE SAID "WELL YOU CANT PROVE IT THAT THE TRANSMISSION CAUSED THE ACCIDENT." AGAIN I WAS SHOCKED. THE PROBLEM IS THIS CONDITION IS GOING TO COST SOMEONE THEIR LIFE. THERE IS A PETITION BEING CIRCULATED BY OWNERS SUCH AS MYSELF. THIS CONDITION IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT COULD AND DOES HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. MR TIMBERLAKE ALSO SAID "THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT YOU HAVE NEVER CHANGED THE OIL." I WAS AGAIN SHOCKED. I CHANGED THE OIL MYSELF AND HAVE THE RECIPT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT LEASED A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY FOR A TAXICAB COMPANY. A DRIVER RAN THE RED LIGHT WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO STRIKE HIS VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE SPEED OF IMPACT WAS 30 MPH; HOWEVER, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE BOTTOM PART OF THE SEAT BELT MALFUNCTIONED AND THE SEAT BELT DID NOT SECURE HIM DURING THE CRASH. HE SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES WHICH INCLUDED A TEAR IN HIS HEART, CONCUSSION, AND THE DISCS IN HIS NECK AND BACK. HE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER; HOWEVER, THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE DEALER ADVISED HIM THAT THE TAXICAB COMPANY PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND SOLD THE PARTS ON IT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 74,000.
SUN VISOR FAILURE IN 2008 ON A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. LESS THAN SIX MONTHS OR 10000 MILES OF VEHICLE USAGE. CONTACT DEALER ABOUT FAILURE BUT COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. CALLED DEALERSHIP 2 YEARS LATER AND WILL FIX IT IF VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 36000 MILES. DELAYED TACTIC MAKES DEALERSHIP THE WINNER IN THIS SITUATION. HAVE BEEN WITHOUT SUN VISOR SINCE. A TSB ON ALLDATA HELPED ME UNINSTALL SUNVISOR AND STILL HAVE IT IN MY POSSESSION. WEAK PLASTIC MATERIAL CAUSES THE FAILURE ON THIS ITEM. *TR
THE CAR SEVERELY VIBRATES EVEN ON LOW SPEED WHICH MAKES DRIVING LIKE RIDING A HORSE. ALSO IT DOESN'T ACCELERATE PROPERLY WHEN I WANT TO, WHICH IS REALLY DANGEROUS IN MANY SITUATIONS. IT CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS. THERE'S NOISE COMES FROM TRANSMISSION AND BRAKES ALL THE TIME. I WENT TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THE TECHNICIAN TRIED TO PLAY THE IDIOT GAME BY SAYING I SEE NOTHING WRONG. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IF I'M CRAZY ENOUGH TO BUY THEIR CAR, I SHOULD KEEP QUIET. I MOVED TO CA RECENTLY AND WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC, THE CAR BECOMES REALLY ANNOYING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA SOLARA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TIRES WERE ROTATED. AFTER ROTATING THE TIRES THE VEHICLE WOULD THEN PULL TOWARDS THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE ONE OF THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO PULL TO THE RIGHT AND SHE HAD TO ROTATE THE TIRES VERY OFTEN BECAUSE THEY WERE BEGINNING TO WEAR RAPIDLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
THE ENGINE CONSUMES 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1200 MILES. TOYOTA SAYS THIS IS ACCEPTABLE BUT 25% OF OIL LOSS IS WAY TOO MUCH. IF I WAIT TILL THE MAINTENANCE OF 3000 MILES, ALMOST 75% OF THE OIL WILL BE GONE AND WOULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CAR. *TR

THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS EXCESSIVE FORCE APPLIED TWICE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL; AND DEACTIVATION OF THE SPEED CONTROL. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO REACH THE MANUFACTURER TO REPORT THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000.
DRIVING ON BACK ROAD LATE AT NIGHT-CAR SUDDENLY VERIED TO LEFT HITTING ONCOMING CAR-THEN GOING INTO DITCH-COULD NOT CONTROL MY CAR-WAS HAVING PROBLEMS PRIOR-AS CAR KEPT WANTING TO VEER TO RIGHT AND ACCELETOR SEEMED TO STICK FROM TIME TO TIME-CAR WAS TOTALED AND I SUFFERED FROM INJURIES.I WAS ONE MILE FROM MY HOME WHEN ACCIDENT OCCURED. I ALWAYS FELT LIKE CAR HAD HANDLING PROBLEMS-BUT WITH TOYDA,S QUALITY REPUTATION DID NOT THINK IT WAS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE. I HAVE A NEW TOYDA-STILL HAS TENDANCY TO ACCILER ATE FROM TIME TO TIME UNEXPECTEDLY-NO ACCIDENTS OR CLOSE CALLS.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD KEYLESS ENTRY, WHICH POSED AS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN GEAR. SHE STATED THAT MOST VEHICLES MANUALLY REQUIRE PLACING THE GEAR IN PARK BEFORE SHUTTING DOWN THE ENGINE. THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OFF UNLESS THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK; HOWEVER, THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. SHE ALSO STATED THAT SHE HAD FORGOTTEN TO PLACE THE CAR IN PARK SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE DUE TO THE ON/OFF BUTTON FOR THE ENGINE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE HAS ROLLED AWAY FROM THE DRIVEWAY ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,300. MY CAR HAS THE STICKY DASH ISSUE THAT MANY TOYOTAS HAVE. I FIRST NOTICED A 'PLASTIC / RUBBER' SMELL IN THE CAR A MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT IT; HOWEVER, THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT WAS THE 'NEW CAR SMELL'. LATER I WAS TOLD IT WAS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH MY CABIN INLET FILTER. FINALLY THE DASH STARTED BECOMING SOFT AND GOOEY. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT MY CAR WAS PART OF A RECALL AND TOYOTA AGREED TO REPLACE THE DASH - 9 YEARS LATER. I HAVE BEEN BREATHING THE TOXIC FUMES FROM THE MELTING DASH FOR 9 YEARS, 150K PLUS MILES.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE SURGED TO 80 MPH. SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY DECELERATE TO 60 MPH. SHE ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL, WHICH ALSO DID NOT HELP SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. SHE THEN ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO SECOND GEAR, BUT THIS FAILED AS WELL. WHENEVER SHE RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE BACK TO 80 MPH. SHE PULLED OVER AND ACTIVATED THE HAZARD LIGHTS WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MANEUVER THROUGH OTHER GEARS. SHE PLACED BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, WHICH SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN TO 40 MPH, BUT DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DROVE AROUND THE CORNER TO ANOTHER HIGHWAY AND ATTEMPTED SOME SHIFTING MANEUVERS, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. SHE CALLED 911 FOR ASSISTANCE AND THEY INSTRUCTED HER TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK AND TURN OFF THE IGNITION, WHICH ABRUPTLY STOPPED THE VEHICLE. SMOKE THEN FLOWED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE SMOKING. SHE WAITED FOR 911, WHO INFORMED HER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE HUBCAPS ON THE VEHICLE WERE HOT. SOMEONE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT SHE MUST HAVE HAD THE FLOORMATS UNDER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE MATS WERE NOT UNDER THE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHECKED THE MOTOR. THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, AND INSISTED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE MATS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 6,300. TOYOTA BLAMED THE FLOOR MATS FOR THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION OF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE POLICE OFFICER STATED THE FLOOR MATS WERE NO WHERE NEAR THE GAS PEDAL.
I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY AND THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM IN THE TRANSMISSION WHEN ACCELERATING AND DOWNSHIFTING IT SEEMS TO HESITATE. *TR
THE 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY SE HAS A OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM, TOYOTA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS ISSUES SINCE THEIR 2007 CAMRY MODELS AND CONTINUED THEIR DECEPTION THROUGH THE 2009 CAMRY MODELS. I'VE HAD MY VEHICLE TESTED TWICE BY THE LOCAL DEALER ONLY TO BE MISLED. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN LOOSING OIL SINCE THE FIRST MONTHS OF PARCHES. TOYOTA HAS BEEN CONCEALING THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE FROM THE OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES.

I OWN A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY AND HAVE HAD A FEW SERIOUS PROBLEMS THAT WERE NEVER RECOGNIZED BY THE TOYOTA DEALER WHICH I ALWAYS SERVICED THE CAR. THEY RANGE FROM SMALL TO SERIOUS. FRONT STRUTS SEEM TO BE LEAKING HYDRAULIC FLUID, I ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT A STEERING PROBLEM TO THE DEALER, THEY INSPECTED THE CAR AND TOLD ME THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THE STEERING ISSUE WAS VERY APPARENT, AND NOW HAS GOTTEN WORSE. WHEN CORNERING AT LOW OR HIGHER SPEEDS THE CAR SEEMS TO SKIP, AND CONTROLLING THE CAR GETS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT, WHICH BECOMES A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME. THERE WHERE SERVICE BULLETINS AVAILABLE FOR THESE ISSUES BUT YET MY CAR WAS NEVER REPAIRED. ANOTHER ISSUE I HAVE NOTICED HAS BEEN WITH BRAKING, THE CAR WILL VIBRATE DRAMATICALLY ONCE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND ROTORS HAVE BEEN CUT 5 MONTHS AGO. THE CAR HAS NEW TIRES AND HAS BEEN ALIGNED IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS AS REQUESTED BY THE TOYOTA DEALER, YET THE STEERING PROBLEMS PERSIST. HE SAID THEY WOULD CALL TOYOTA TECH IN CALIFORNIA TO SEE HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM & WOULD GET BACK TO ME. I HAD NOT HEARD BACK BY 2/28 SO I CALLED FOR AN UPDATE BECAUSE THE CAR IS STILL DOING THE ABOVE & I AM FEELING MORE UNSAFE. AFTER TALKING WITH THE PERSON WHOM ANSWERED THE PHONE SHE SAID SHE WOULD TALK TO HER SVC MANAGER AS IT COULD TAKE UP TO A WEEK BEFORE CALIFORNIA WOULD GET BACK TO THEM. APPROXIMATE INCIDENT DATE IS ENTIRELY INACCURATE. I DO NOT REMEMBER WHEN THIS HAPPENED, BUT PROBABLY MORE THAN A YEAR AGO EITHER IN A 2006 CAMRY OR A 2008 CAMRY HYBRID. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 09V388000. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE "TOYOTA HAS DETERMINED THAT THIS DEFECT DOES NOT EXIST IN VEHICLES IN WHICH THE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR MAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE VEHICLE AND IS PROPERLY SECURED" AND BELIEVE THAT MY COMPLAINT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED CONCURRENTLY WITH THIS ONE. 1. MY COMPATIBLE AND PROPERLY SECURED CARPETED DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR MAT SLIPPED OFF THE RETAINING HOOKS (CLIPS) AND BUNCHED UP UNDER THE PEDALS. THERE ARE ONLY TWO HOOKS, WHICH ARE REMOVABLE, AND THEY SPIN AROUND AND AROUND, ALLOWING THE MAT TO SLIP OFF. I BELIEVE THAT A SIMPLE FIX OF INSTALLING PERMANENT HOOKS THAT DO NOT SPIN, OR FOUR HOOKS, WOULD SOLVE THIS POTENTIALLY FATAL ISSUE. 2. AS I WAS DRIVING, I FOUND MYSELF UNABLE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. I DISCOVERED THAT MY FLOOR MAT HAD LODGED UNDER THE BRAKE PEDAL, MAKING IT SO THAT COULD NOT PRESS IT DOWN. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO DISLODGE THE MAT AND AVOID A COLLISION. THIS INCIDENT ONLY HAPPENED ONCE, BUT THE MATS DO COME OFF THE HOOKS FREQUENTLY, THEREFORE I MUST CONSTANTLY MAKE SURE THAT MY MAT IS SECURE AND THAT THE HOOKS ARE FACING THE CORRECT WAY SO THE MAT CANNOT SLIP OFF THEM. 3.
