TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD WAS VERY STICKY AND PIECES WERE FALLING OFF. THE FAILURE CREATED A GLARE ON THE DASHBOARD WHEN THE SUN REFLECTED ON IT, WHICH PREVENTED THE CONTACT FROM VIEWING THE ROAD CLEARLY. AS A RESULT, A CRASH ALMOST OCCURRED. THE CONTACT CALLED BENNETT TOYOTA OF LEBANON (1509 QUENTIN RD, LEBANON, PA 17042, (717) 202-8888) AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER MAY HAVE RECEIVED A NOTICE FOR AN UNKNOWN RECALL THAT CLOSED IN 2017. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO PLACE A COVER OR SHEET OVER THE DASHBOARD. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
AS I WAS BACKING UP THE BRAKES WENT SOFT TO THE FLOOR AND THEN ALL OF SUDDEN ENGAGED. A FEW DAYS LATER MY BRAKE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL, AND ABS LIGHT TURNED ON AND CHECK VSC SYSTEM WAS DISPLAYED.
THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR HAS FAILED. THE INTERNAL CLIPS MECHANISM IS BROKEN CAUSING THE VISOR TO FALL DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND BLOCKING MY VISION TO SEE THE ROAD AND OTHER DRIVERS. . THIS IS DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE 3 YOUNG ADULTS IN MY HOME WHO REFUSE TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE OF IT. TOYOTA CLAIMS TO HAVE SENT A RECALL FOR THE PART THAT I DID NOT RECEIVE ALTHOUGH I HAVE RECEIVED OTHER RECALL POSTCARDS FOR THIS CAR. THEY ARE STATING THE RECALL IS NO LONGER VALID BUT THE PROBLEM IS KNOWN TO THEM AND HAS CONTINUED IN THE FOLLOWING YEARS MODEL CARS AND YET THEY WILL NOT COVER IT. I FEEL THIS QUALIFIES FOR A CLASS ACTION SUIT.
ENGINE IS BURNING TO MUCH OIL, LAST THREE OIL CHANGES I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING TO TOYOTA DEALER THAT CAR IS GETTING LOW ON OIL ON AVERAGE EVERY TWO WEEKS, I NEVER RECEIVED ANY LETTER FROM TOYOTA REGARDING OIL CONSUMPTION. ON LAST OIL CHANGE IN JUNE 2019 ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK CAR BACK TO THE DEALER THEY DIAGNOSED EXHAUST MANIFOLD NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT NEVER DISCLOSED IT IS DUE TO THE TOO MUCH OIL CONSUMPTION. RECENTLY, CAR IS CONSUMING TOO MUCH OIL AND CAR IS JERKING WHEN GAS IS PUSHED. FINALLY, I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS AN OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE WITH 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THEY CALLED ME ON PHONE AND SAID SINCE THIS CAR IS OLDER THAN 10 YEARS AND HAS MORE THAN 150,000 MILES, SO THIS ISSUE IS NO MORE COVERED BY TOYOTA. THEY ALSO CLAIM THAT THEY MAILED ME A LETTER IN 2015 WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED., RECEIVED OTHER THREE LETTERS ABOUT OTHER RECALLS FROM TOYOTA AND THESE LETTERS ARE ONLINE IN MY CAR PROFILE, NOT THE ONE ABOUT OIL CONSUMPTION. I ALWAYS TOOK MY CARE TO TOYOTA DEALER FOR OIL CHANGE. I HAVE BEEN TELLING THEM THAT EITHER YOU ALL ARE NOT PUTTING ENOUGH OIL, OR IT IS BURNING TOO MUCH OIL, BUT THEY NEVER DISCLOSED OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE WITH MY CAR MODEL. I REQUEST NTSHA TO PLEASE INVESTIGATE WHY 1.TOYOTA NEVER SEND ME A LETTER VIA MAIL REGARDING THIS OIL CONSUMPTION? 2.WHY THIS LETTER IS NOT SHOWING IN THE CAR PROFILE ONLINE BUT ALL OTHERS ARE. 3.WHY DEALER NEVER DISCLOSED ME REGARDING THIS ISSUE, EVEN CAR IS CONSUMING TOO MUCH OIL? ON DEC. 27, 2018 WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY I HEARD A SEVERE/LOUD KNOCKING NOISE IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE THAT I HAD NEVER HEARD BEFORE. I COULD STILL DRIVE HOWEVER THE VEHICLE HAD SLOWED DOWN AND BEGAN SHAKING. I HURRIED OFF THE EXPRESSWAY. I DECIDED TO TO GO TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THE STREET WAY AS I WAS IN THAT AREA. AT THAT TIME I WAS ADVISED THAT INTERNAL ENGINE DAMAGE HAD OCCURRED AND THE ENGINE WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED, NOTHING FURTHER.THE ESTIMATED COST WOULD BE $10,435. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY HOME.THEY LATER INDICATED VIA EMAIL THAT MY CASE WOULD BE FILED WITH TOYOTA MOTOR SALES U.S.A. INC. UNDER FILE#[XXX]. WHY DOES A 2008 CAMRY CE WITH 60,896 MILES BREAKDOWN WITHOUT WARNING. I DECIDED TO RESEARCH THE MATTER. I FOUND OUT THAT TOYOTA HAD A OIL CONSUMPTION DEFECT CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN 2014, ONE OF MANY, INDICATING 2006-2011 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES (INCLUDING CAMRY) HAD DEFECTIVE ENGINES THAT BURN EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL WHICH CAN CAUSE ENGINE FAILURE IN A MOVING VEHICLE. FURTHER, TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF THE DESIGN DEFECT, BUT STILL MANUFACTURED AND SOLD THEIR VEHICLES WITHOUT WARNING CONSUMERS. THEY ALSO FAILED TO WARN DRIVERS THAT THIS DEFECT WOULD CREATE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES. I CONTACTED TOYOTA WITH THIS INFORMATION TO NO AVAIL. CAR BEGAN LOOSING COOLANT AND OIL PLUS OVERHEATING WHILE BEING DRIVEN. BOTH OIL AND COOLANT RAN OUT IN A MATTER OF 3 WEEKS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND AND A CHIME SOUND WAS HEARD. ALSO, THE ABS, VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL, AND MAINTENANCE REQUIRED WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND THEN TOWED TO PETERSON TOYOTA (9101 W FAIRVIEW AVE, BOISE, ID 83704, (208) 963-8218). THE DEALER CHECKED WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY BOTH STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM RECEIVING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY CAMPAIGN FOR THE BRAKE AND THE STATUTE EXPIRED ON MARCH 28, 2018. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
CHECK VSC SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED.
MY ABS BRAKE ACTUATOR FAILED WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE BRAKES TO STOP FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. I WAS FORCED TO SLAM MY BRAKES FOR THE CAR TO STOP. LUCKILY I WAS IN A PARKING LOT GOING ABOUT 5 MPH. OTHERWISE, I COULD HAVE DIED OR KILLED SOMEONE. THERE WAS NO NOTICE BEFOREHAND OF THE PROBLEM. I SPOKE TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY CLAIM THEIR WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND SUPPLEMENTAL WARRANTY THAT WERE ISSUED, BUT THE SUPP WARRANTY EXPIRED APRIL OF THIS YEAR (2018) AND AT 150,000 MILES. MY CAR CURRENTLY HAS 155K MILES. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS PROBLEM BY TOYOTA. THEY HAVE MY INFORMATION ON FILE. I WOULD HAVE EITHER SOLD/TRADED IN MY VEHICLE LAST YEAR HAD I KNOWN THESE CARS HAVE THESE PROBLEMS. IN RESEARCHING ONLINE, NHTSA HAS INVESTIGATED THE BRAKE ACTUATER PROBLEMS THAT HAVE CAUSED CRASHES AND INJURIES. TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE ISSUED A RECALL LIKE THEY WERE FORCED TO DO IN 2009/2010 WHEN THEY'RE ACCELERATOR PEDALS WERE STICKING AND PEOPLE WERE DYING. NOW TOYOTA IS GOING TO CHARGE ME OVER $1,700 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I DON'T HAVE A CHOICE SINCE THE CAR IS NOT IN WORKING CONDITION. I HAVE A CASE ID WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE 1811131473. THE LADY JUST LIED TO ME ABOUT TOYOTA BEING UNABLE TO COVER THE PROBLEM. SHE MADE IT SOUND LIKE THERE WAS A CONTRACT IN PLACE AND FIXING MY CAR WOULD BE BREAKING THE TERMS. I ASKED HER WHO NEGOTIATED THE TERMS, AND SHE DIDN'T HAVE AN ANSWER. I ASKED HER IF NHTSA OR A CLASS ACTION FORCED TOYOTA TO ACCEPT THE TERMS AND SHE SAID NO. CLEARLY, TOYOTA HAS TRAINED THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS TO LIE TO CUSTOMERS LIKE ME GETTING THEM TO THINK THERE ARE ABSOLUTE "TERMS" THAT CANNOT BE CHANGED IN ORDER TO ESCAPE LIABILITY.
The issue is with the 2008 Toyota Camry dashboard that is melting shining reflective light straight into my eye. Toyota is not treating this as a recall matter, and only did a Customer program to get it repaired for a short time.
AT ABOUT 62000 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE THE RAC AND PINION NOW AGAIN AT ABOUT 130000 MILES IT NEEDS REPLACING AGAIN. MY 2001 CAMARY HAS 200000 MILES AND IS STILL ON THE ORGINAL RAC. THE RACS TOYOTA IS PUTING IN THE 2008 CAMERY ARE DEFECTIVE.

THE CONTACT CALLED THE DCH TOYOTA OF OXNARD DEALER LOCATED AT 1631 AUTO CENTER DR, OXNARD, CA 93036, (805) 288-7692, AND WAS INFORMED THAT AN UNKNOWN RECALL ON THE VEHICLE WAS EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000.
DASHBOARD MELTS IN THE SUN CREATING A STICKY SHINY SURFACE THAT REFLECTS ONTO THE WINDSHIELD AND INHIBITS VISIBILITY. I CANNOT SEE OUT OF THE CAR DURING THE DAY ANYMORE DUE TO THE REFLECTION.
THE PROBLEM STARTED IN MY VEHICLE LAST SUMMER, BUT I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THER EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE DATE I ENTERED WAS THE DATE I CONTACTED TOYOTA AS I FOUND INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. I BOUGHT MY VEHICLE USED AND WENT TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER ASKING IF THERE WERE ANY PROBLEMS I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT, AS I NEEDED AN EXTRA KEY MADE AND I INQUIRED WHY I WAS THERE. I WAS TOLD NO PROBLEMS, NO RECALLS. I NOTICED THE DASHBOARD GETTING STICKY THE SUMMER OF 2017, BUT THOUGHT IT WAS CAUSED BY THE CLEANER I USED ON THE DASHBOARD. THIS SUMMER WAS EVEN HOTTER AND THE FINISH ON THE DASHBOARD BEGAN PEELING, CRACKING, BECOMING SHINEY, AND VERY VERY STICKY TO TOUCH. SO I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH. I TYPED IN "HOW TO CLEAN A STICKY DASHBOARD" AND GUESS WHAT POPPED UP, TOYOTA CAMRY'S PROBLEMS WITH A DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD. THEY DIDN'T RECALL IT EVEN THOUGH IT COVERED SEVERAL YEARS, INSTEAD THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY. I BOUGHT MY CAR USED. I CHECK WITH A LOCAL DEALER, AND I WAS TOLD NO ISSUES. I CALLED TOYOTA TODAY, AND, I'M SOL AS THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AS OF 11/2017. IF I HAD KNOWN I COULD HAVE GOTTEN IT REPLACED. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO MENTION THE DEFECTIVE VISORS, WHICH I REPLACED AT MY COST AS THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE FALL DOWN W/O WARNING AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. LETS NOT FORGET THE OIL BURNING ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE IS FROM 2005-2011 IS RIDDLED WITH PROBLEMS AND TOYOTA IS LEAVING THOSE OF US WHO PURCHASE USED VEHICLES OUT IN THE COLD. I'LL NEVER BUY A TOYOTA AGAIN IF THIS IS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY PROVIDE TO CUSTOMERS.
MY ENGINE IS BURNING OIL AT A FAST RATE. I HAVE TO ADD 2-3 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES IN ORDER TO KEEP THE CORRECT OIL LEVEL. IT HAS JUST OVER 100,000 MILES SO IT IS OUT OF THE 60K MIKE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. THIS WASN'T A PROBLEM FOR MY CAR UNTIL AROUND 90K MILES. SO IT WAS ALREADY OUT OF THE WARRANTY RANGE WHEN I DISCOVERED SOMETHING WAS WRONG. THIS IS A FAULTY DESIGN BY TOYOTA AND THE CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. THEIR BRAND IS BUILT ON RELIABILITY AND THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT I WAS GETTING WHEN I PURCHASED THIS CAR. I WAS DECEIVED BY TOYOTA.
THE ENGINE IS BURNING OIL. NO LEAKS ARE DETECTED BUT I HAVE TO ADD 1-2 QUARTS OF OIL AROUND EVERY 500 MILES

JUST DISCOVERED MY DASH IS STICKY, HAS NOT YET PROGRESSED TO SHINY AND TOYOTA'S EXTENDED WARRANTY ENDED 10-1-17. ONLY DRIVE THE CAR 6 MONTHS OF THE YEAR, AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE 54266 MILES. SPOKE WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER AND WAS TOLD THAT TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER THE $2000 COST TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE DASH. THEY MADE A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND SHOULD COVER REPLACEMENT COST NO MATTER WHEN IT OCCURS. I NEVER RECEIVED THE SINGLE LETTER THEY MAILED IN 2015. THEY ALWAYS HAD MY EMAIL AND NEVER NOTIFIED ME VIA EMAIL OR SENT OUT A FOLLOW LETTER.
WITHIN THE LAST MONTH I AND OTHER SUCH AS MECHANIC, BODY SHOP OPERATORS HAVE NOTICED STICKY AND GOOEY DASHBOARD, MELTING AND VERY SOFT, ESPECIALLY IN THE HOT AND HUMID WEATHER. HAVE ALSO NOTICED A GLARE ON DASHBOARD WHILE DRIVING. YOU CAN ALSO PUT YOUR FINGERNAIL THOROUGH PARTS OF THE DASHBOARD, VERY STICKY AND SOFT. CONTACTED TOYOTA AT 800.331.4331 AND WAS TOLD THAT THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT EXPIRED MARCH 2018 AND THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING SINCE THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED . I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE DASHBOARD TILL THIS LAST MONTH AND WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY ISSUES CONCERNING THIS PART OF THE CAR. NOR DID I RECEIVE ANYTHING WHICH STATED THERE WAS ANYTHING GOING ON WITH THE DASHBOARD FOR THIS MAKE OR MODEL.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME ONE DAY AND TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY. WHEN I DROVE IT, IT SHOOK BUT WAS NOT TOO BAD. I THOUGHT IT WAS A TIRE BALANCING ISSUE. THEN IT HAPPENED. I WAS DRIVING ONE DAY ON THE FREEWAY, THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AND THE ABS WAS ACTIVATED! I STOPPED THE CAR ON THE ROAD AND I COULD SMELL THE BRAKE SMOKE. THE THE LAST STRAW, I'M DRIVING HOME ONE DAY AND THE BRAKES SEIZED I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME THE BRAKE ACTUATOR WAS THE CAUSE AND IT WAS COMMON FOR THE YEAR/MAKE/MODEL BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THE COST OF REPAIR WAS $3K. THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR SOMETHING THAT IS "COMMON". AFTER HAVING MY CAR FOR 3 DAYS, TOYOTA AGREED TO PAY HALF OF THE COSTS, SO IT STILL COST $1500 TO REPAIR, PLUS $100 FOR A BRAKE JOB, THOUGH I HAD A BRAKE JOB 6 MONTHS OLD! LIKE MANY MANY OTHERS, OUR 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS AND CONTINUES TO EXPERIENCE MAJOR ISSUES AFFECTING THE SAFE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO BRAKES ABS ACTIVATING ON ITS OWN, BRAKES SEIZING, PREMATURE BRAKE PAD/ROTOR WEAR, DASHBOARD LIGHTS NOT WORKING, CAR MATS, BRAKE PEDAL, SUN VISORS, DASH BOARD MELTING, MOTOR MOUNT BREAKING FOR NO REASON, DASHBOARD GAUGES NOT WORKING (SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER/FUEL/TEMPERATURE ETC), CRUISE CONTROL WORKING INTERMITTENTLY WHERE IT TURNS OFF BY ITSELF, DOOR PANELS COMING LOOSE, SPEAKERS STOP WORKING PROPERLY. I COULD GO ON, BUT I THINK YOU GET THE PICTURE. THOUGH WE'VE ENJOYED OWNING TOYOTAS IN THE PAST, WE'VE OWNED THIS ONE FOR ALMOST THIS ONE FOR ALMOST 11 YEARS. AND THOUGH WE'RE LOOKING TO GET A NEW CAR SOON, I'M FAIRLY CERTAIN THAT BECAUSE OF THE ISSUES AND MORE IMPORTANTLY THE CORPORATE TREATMENT BY TOYOTA REGARDING ISSUES WITH THEIR PRODUCT, THIS MAY OUR LAST ONE. THE NHTSA SHOULD ENCOURAGE TOYOTA TO DO WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO FIX THESE ISSUES BEFORE THEY BECOME FATAL.

THE FAILURE CREATED A GLARE THAT IMPAIRED THE DRIVER'S VISIBILITY. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. SUN TOYOTA (3001 US HIGHWAY 19, HOLIDAY, FL) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
MY 2008 CAMRY LE HAS 35,000 MILES ON IT. THE COOLANT LEVEL HAS ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. THE WATER PUMP BEARINGS FAILED SO THAT THE PUMP MADE GRINDING NOISES, THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS WOBBLING, AND THE PUMP WAS LEAKING COOLANT. THE NOISES BEGAN ABRUPTLY WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN (6/16/18). I TOOK THE CAR TO A SHOP (6/20/18) AND REPLACED THE PUMP, MAKING SURE THE SHOP PUT IN LONGLIFE COOLANT AND REPLACED ALL THE OLD COOLANT. A CHECK OF COMPLAINTS AGAINST TOYOTA WATER PUMP COMPLAINTS REVEALS THAT PREMATURE FAILURES ARE A COMMON PROBLEM IN CAMRYS BETWEEN 2007 AND 2009. TOYOTA DOES NOT WANT TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR REPLACING THE PUMPS. I KEPT THE OLD WATER PUMP, SERPENTINE BELT, AND SHOP INVOICE. I WOULD LIKE MY COSTS REIMBURSED.
MY CAR CONSUMES OIL (WILL RUN EMPTY) AFTER A FEW THOUSAND MILES. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THERE WAS A CAMPAIGN PACK IN 2016. WHILE THEY COULD PRODUCE DATES AND THE ALLEGED ADDRESS THEY SENT THE CAMPAIGN INFORMATION TOO, I NEVER RECEIVED IT. BOTH NOTICES DID NOT ARRIVE AT MY HOUSE. READING THE COMPLAINTS, I SEE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHOM HAS THIS ISSUE. I AM THE FIRST AND ONLY OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE.

THE CONTACT POWERED OFF THE ENGINE AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
TOOK THE CAR ON A LONG TRIP ACROSS THE COUNTRY. HAD AN OIL CHANGE JUST BEFORE THE TRIP. AS WE WERE ARRIVING HOME, WE LOST POWER GOING UP HILLS. PULLED OVER AND CHECKED OIL. IT WAS LOW... VERY LOW. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR CHECK ENGINE EVER CAME ON. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID THAT IT NOW NEEDS NEW RINGS AND THAT THE CYLINDER'S ARE SCORED. REPAIRS TOTALING OVER $10,000. APPARENTLY THERE IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THESE CARS THAT THEY BURN OIL. THE LOW OIL WARNING LIGHT DIDN'T COME ON WHEN I WAS 3 1/2 QUARTS LOW ON OIL. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE! THIS CAR HAS BEEN RUINED DUE TO THIS DEFECT.
DUE TO THE TOYOTA STICKY DASH PROBLEM CAUSED BY MATERIAL DEGRADATION, I AM EXPERIENCING A SAFETY SITUATION WHEN SUNLIGHT PRODUCES A GLARE OFF THE SHINY DASH SURFACE. THE GLARE IS AT ITS WORST WHEN DRIVING INTO THE SUN. UPON CALLING TOYOTA, THEY STATED THAT THEIR VOLUNTARY WARRANTY EXTENSION PERIOD HAS ENDED AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME.
STICKY MELTING DASHBOARD THAT THROWS OFF A BLINDING GLARE. TOYOTA WILL NOT REPLACE MY DASHBOARD AS TIME ELAPSED ON A RECALL THAT I WAS UNAWARE OF. MY DASHBOARD REFLECTION IS DANGEROUS AND IT BLINDS ME WHEN THE SUN REFLECTS OFF IT.

WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, THE CHECK VSC SYSTEM, ABS ICON AND SOMETIMES THE BATTERY ICON APPEARED ON SCREEN. SHORTLY AFTER IT STARTS TO AFFECT THE ENTIRE CAR WHERE IT STARTS LOSING POWER IN THE CABIN AS WELL AS EXTERIOR OF THE CAR. THE VEHICLE ALSO EXPERIENCE COUPLE OF BAD SHAKES FOLLOWED BY SPEED DECREASING, ODOMETER GOING HAYWIRE WHERE YOU ARE SPEEDING OR GIVING GAS BUT THE ODOMETER IS AT 0. FINALLY THE CAR COMES TO A STOP. IT ACTS TOTALLY WEIRD. IF YOU ARE TURN OFF THE CAR TO TURN IT ON AGAIN, THE CAR DOES NOT TURN ON. THERE IS NO IGNITION CLICKING AS WELL. WHEN THIS OCCURRED THE FIRST TIME, THE CLICKING OF STARTING THE ENGINE COULD BE HEARD. THE SECOND TIME, IT WAS AS THE CAR HAS COMPLETELY DIED ALTHOUGH BATTERY STILL HAS POWER SINCE THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS DO TURN ON. BOTH OF THE TIME THE ACCIDENT WAS AVOIDED. THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE WAS LUCKILY PULLED INTO A SIDE STREET AND NOT ON MAIN ROAD. THE SECOND TIME IT WAS CLOSE ENOUGH BUT WAS ABLE TO PULL ON TO THE SIDE STREET AND TO A PARKING SPACE. IN THE FIRST ATTEMPT, THE BATTERY WAS JUMPED AND TOOK OFF THE CABLE IN COUPLE OF MINUTES AND FINDING THE CAR DEAD. THIS WAS THOUGHT THAT THE BATTERY WAS BAD. SECOND TIME, NEW BATTERY WAS INSTALLED AND THE SIMILAR INCIDENT WAS EXPERIENCED. WHEN THE NEW BATTERY WAS INSTALLED, THE CAR WAS 'OK' FOR COUPLE OF DAYS BUT THE BATTERY ICON WOULD COME AND GO. WHEN THE ABOVE ISSUE WAS EXPERIENCED AGAIN AND THIS TIME ON THE NEW BATTERY, IT WAS JUMPED AND STAYED FOR 5 MINUTES BEFORE DRIVING AWAY. THE BATTERY ICON STILL COMES AND GOES AND IT IS NOT DUE TO THE BATTERY BEING LOSE. EVERYTHING IS TIGHTENED PROPERLY. THIS WAS NOT EXPERIENCED IN THE 10 YEARS OF OWNING THIS CAR. THERE ARE NO MAJOR ACCIDENTS ON THE CARS. THERE WAS NOTHING MINOR OR MAJOR HAPPENED TO THE CAR PRIOR TO THE INCIDENTS
ABS LIGHTS COMES ON, BRAKES LIGHTS COME ON, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE MILAGE HAND STOP WORKING AND THE AIR WONT GET COLD WHEN THIS HAPPENS.
DASH MATERIAL SEEMS TO BE MELTING AND REFLECTION IS CAUSING VISIBILITY ISSUES WITH REFLECTION ON WINDSHIELD. DASH HAS TURNES INTO A PUTTY TYPE CONSISTENCY WHICH IS STICKKY TO THE TOUCH. IT IS NOT A CRACK DUE TO HEAT EXPOSURE!!
DASHBOARDS CAN BECOME CRACKED AND/OR STICKY/MELTED OVER TIME. TOYOTA ISSUED A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTIFICATION ON THIS ISSUE WHICH EXPIRED JANUARY 2, 2018. MY 2008 CAMRY DID NOT EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM UNTIL MAY 2018. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AS THE STICKY/MELTED DASH ACTS AS A MIRROR REFLECTING ANY LIGHT INTO THE DRIVERS FACE. IT IS ESPECIALLY HAZARDOUS IN NIGHT DRIVING WHEN STREET LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS GLARE INTO THE DRIVERS FACE REDUCING VISIBILITY CONSIDERABLY. IF THERE ARE BOTH STREET LIGHTS AND ONCOMING HEADLIGHTS THERE IS NO VISIBILITY. IT ACTS LIKE A MIRROR ON THE DASHBOARD. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL, NOT JUST A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT.

TOYOTA ALREADY ACKNOWLEDGES THE SAFETY ISSUE AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE DASHBOARD TO 10 YEARS. MY CAR (PURCHASED NEW) DID NOT EXHIBIT THE MELTING ISSUE UNTIL AFTER WE MOVED IT FROM NORTHERN STATES, MD AND MI TO FL STARTING IN JAN 2016. THE FAILURE ONLY APPARENT AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OR 10 YEARS EXPIRED IN OCT 2017. THE REFLECTION OF THE DASHBOARD UPPER SURFACE ON WINDOW IS HIGHLY DISTRACTING AND SIGNIFICANTLY OBSCURES VISION OF THE ROAD.

AUTONATION TOYOTA MALL OF GEORGIA (3505 BUFORD DR, BUFORD, GA 30519, (770) 674-6083) STATED THAT THERE WAS AN EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION FAILURE. THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS PERFORMED TWICE, BUT IT DID NOT PROVIDE A PERMANENT REMEDY. THE DEALER WAS ASKED SEVERAL TIMES TO PROVIDE FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. AFTER ADDING OIL TO THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER RECOMMENDED THAT THE ENGINE BE REBUILT. THE ENGINE HEAD WAS SENT FOR TESTING AND CHECKED FOR A VALVE STEM SEAL THAT MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THIS IS IN REGARDS TO THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST TOYOTA FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION FOR 2006-2011 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 2AZ-FE ENGINE. I PURCHASED MY 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY SE IN FEBRUARY OF 2008. IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR AS I WAS DRIVING THE OIL LIGHT KEPT GOING ON AND I HAD JUST HAD AN OIL CHANGE NOT LONG BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. I STOPPED TO HAVE MY OIL CHECKED AND FOUND OUT THAT I HAD ALMOST NO OIL IN MY ENGINE. PUT THE OIL IN AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I BEGAN TO RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT TOYOTA KNOWINGLY SOLD THE VEHICLES WITH THE PISTON DEFECT. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE REPAIR DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT WAS OVER THE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY DATE. THE MILEAGE WAS UNDER 150,000 (112,000) AND I WAS 2 MONTHS PAST THE DATE AND THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE REPAIRS TO MY VEHICLE. I HAVE ATTACHED THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST INVOICE DONE BY A TOYOTA DEALER AND THE LETTER SENT TO TOYOTA. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO SPEND $3000 TO $5000 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS ALSO LOST VALUE AND I COULD FIND MYSELF IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION IF THE ENGINE FAILS. I NEED TO KNOW MY OPTIONS. TOYOTA SHOULD FIX MY CAR AT NO CHARGE TO ME.

"TOYOTA PISTON RING RECALL"I HAVE NOT RECIEVE A NOTICE THAT A RECALL FOR 2008 CAMRY, WHICH I PURCHASED IN JUNE OF 2017. I HAVE DRIVEN IT ONLY 6,000 MILES AND HAVE CHANGED THE OIL TWICE. BOTH TIMES, I REALIZED THAT THE AMOUNT OF OIL IN THE CAR WAS ABNORMALLY LOW. I RECENTLY GOT AN OIL CHANGE AT VALVOLINE STORE, ABOUT 1200 MILES AGO, ON MARCH 15, 2018. IT IS ALREADY DANGEROUSLY LOW, AFTER DRIVING IN A NORMAL FASHION, 10 DAYS LATER. I AM NOW AWARE THAT A RECALL HAS OCCURRED FOR MILLIONS OF TOYOTAS HAVING THE IMPROPER PISTON RINGS INSTALLED. SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR DURING THIS RECALL PERIOD, I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE ISSUE RESOLVED BY TOYOTA BEARING ALL OF THE COSTS TO REPAIR IT. THIS ONGOING PROBLEM WILL PROVE TO BE FATAL TO THE ENGINE IN MY CAT AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE A SAFETY CONCERN, SHOULD THE ENGINE SEIZE, OR OTHERWISE MALFUNCTION, WHILE I AM DRIVING IT. I HAVE VISITED AND ADDRESSED MY ISSUE WITH MY LOCAL, COPELAND TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THEY DENY ANY RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR IT. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH 2 REPRESENTATIVES AT TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS WHOM ALSO DENY THAT TOYOTA HAS ANY RESPONSIBILITY. THERE ARE STILL MILLIONS OF CARS BY THUS MAKER, OUT ON THE ROAD, DRIVEN EVERYDAY WITH THIS SAFETY ISSUE. I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM ANOTHER AUTHORITY , WHAT I AM TO DO ABOUT GETTING TOYOTA TO FIX MY CAR.

THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND DIAGNOSED AS ABS BRAKING ACTUATOR SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, AND ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS $2,200, IT WAS OUT OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BY 4 MONTHS SO I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THIS PARTICULAR MANUFACTURER LIFE THREATENING MISTAKE THAT COULD TAKE AWAY MY LIFE IF I COULDN'T STOP THE CAR. I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA COMPANY 3 TIMES THEY STATED THEY ARE AWARE OF THE MALFUNCTION PROBLEM, BUT THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, AS IT IS NOT A RECALL YET, IT'S ONLY UNDER INVESTIGATION. I KNOW THIS HAPPENED TO MANY CARS OF THIS MODEL. AND INJURIES OCCURRED BUT TOYOTA DON'T WANT TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY OF THEIR DANGEROUS MISTAKE.
