REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER DOES NOT WORK DUE TO DEFECT IN CONVERTIBLE TOPS RUBBING OFF WIRES, KNOWN DEFECT IN MOST ALL CONVERTIBLES IN THIS LINE. *TR
THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WON'T STAY IN PLACE - IT FALLS DOWN AND TOTALLY OBSTRUCTS MY VIEW OUT OF THE FRONT WINDOW. TOYOTA REFUSES TO FIX THIS SO I NOW HAVE IT TIED UP WITH STRING SO I CAN SEE OUT THE WINDOW. I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG THIS TEMPORARY FIX WILL LAST! THIS IS MY FIRST TOYOTA - I'VE ALWAYS HAD FORDS FOR MANY YEARS (40+) AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OTHER CAR! TOYOTA RECEIVED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS - ESPECIALLY WITH THE 2007 THRU 2011 CAMRY MODELS. THEY SENT US A "ENHANCEMENT WARRANTY" IN 2012. EARLIER THIS YEAR, THE SUN VISOR BEGAN TO SLOWLY DROP ONLY ABOUT AN INCH. LIVING IN MICHIGAN WITH ALL THE ICE AND SNOW AND SINCE THE DEALER IS ABOUT 50 MINUTES AWAY IN GOOD WEATHER, I DECIDED TO BRING MY CAR IN FOR THIS WHEN MY OIL CHANGE WAS DUE, WHICH WAS IN MAY. WHEN I CALLED TO MAKE THE APPOINTMENT I WAS TOLD THAT IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY AND NO LONGER COVERED BY THE ENHANCED WARRANTY - THAT IT EXPIRED IN JAN 2015. I CALLED THE 800 # AND THEY REFUSED TO COVER IT. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION - WHICH BLOCKS THE FRONT WINDOW VIEW - IT IS A CLEAR SAFETY HAZARD!! THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF MY CAR IS COMPLETELY DROPPED (WON'T STAY UP AT ALL), WHILE TONS OF OTHERS TOYOTA OWNERS HAVE SAME/SIMILAR PROBLEMS - THEY HAVE EITHER DROPPED OR DROP SUDDENLY WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS, ETC. - IN OTHERS, THEY NEVER KNOW WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN AND THEIR VIEW IS OBSTRUCTED! TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL!! TOYOTA NEW MOTTO SHOULD BE "MONEY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN LIVES" - OR IS THIS ALREADY THEIR MOTTO? PLEASE DON'T LET TOYOTA GET AWAY THIS SERIOUS DEFECT TOO!! SHAME ON TOYOTA AGAIN!!
THE STICKINESS OF THE DASHBOARD, AND THE SHINY/REFLECTIVE SURFACE THE DASHBOARD CREATES, AS A SAFETY HARZARD.
MY SOLARA HAS A DASHBOARD THAT IS CRACKED AND IS MELTING. THE GLARE IS TERRIBLE FROM THIS.
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK MY DASH BRAKE LIGHT WENT ON. AT THE NEXT STOPLIGHT I CHECKED TO SEE IF THE E BRAKE HAD BEEN DEPRESSED, IT HAD NOT. ONE BLCK LATER WHILE GOING ABOUT 35MPH MY DASH LIT UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE, THE ABS, SLIPPERY CONDITIONS LIGHT, RED WARNING LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALL CAME ON AS WELL AS A WARNING TO "CHECK VSC" ALSO MY BREAKS WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP RIGHT AWAY LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY PULL INTO A,PARKING LOT AND COAST TO A STOP. HAD I NEEDED TO STOP SOON OR BEEN GOING FASTER THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THIS WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH. *TR
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND HAD THE SUN GLARE OF THE DASHBOARD WHICH HAS COMPLETELY MELTED, I WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WHICH CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. GIVEN THE GLARE OF THE DASHBOARD WHICH HAS MELTED COMPLETELY DUE TO INTENSE SUN FROM FLORIDA I WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT SINCE I CANNOT SEE CAR IN FRONT OF ME DUE TO THE LARGE GLARE. MY DEFECT IN THE CAR IS THAT THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND CREATING A VERY INTENSE GLARE WHICH IS PREVENTING ME FROM BEING ABLE TO SEE AND UNFORTUNATELY WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE PROCEEDED THROUGH A STOP SIGN RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE CRASHING INTO THE CONTACTS VEHICLE ON THE FRONT PASSENGERS SIDE. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACTS HUSBAND SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE FACE THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE. UPDATED 1/13/15
AS THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON 11/20/2014, "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" SHOWED UP ON THE MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY, AND THE MASTER WARNING LIGHT, ABS LIGHT, SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT, AND BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT (YELLOW INDICATOR) CAME ON. VEHICLE BRAKING PERFORMANCE SEEMED SLIGHTLY DIMINISHED BUT STILL SAFE TO DRIVE. ON 11/22/2014 I HAD TO MAKE A TRIP TO TOWN, AND NOT KNOWING THE SEVERITY OF THE WARNINGS, USED THE CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING NORTHBOUND AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MILES PER HOUR, I INDICATED A RIGHT HAND TURN, AND A WESTBOUND VEHICLE AT A STOP SIGN STARTED TURNING FROM THE ROAD I WAS TURNING ONTO TO DRIVE NORTH ON THE ROAD I WAS TURNING OFF OF. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SLOW DOWN TO MAKE MY TURN, THE BRAKE PERFORMANCE WAS EXTREMELY POOR. I WAS UNABLE TO SLOW DOWN TO A REASONABLE SPEED TO MAKE THE TURN AND HAD TO MAKE MY TURN AT A MUCH HIGHER THAN NORMAL RATE OF SPEED TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH THE DRIVER THAT WAS TURNING OUT IN FRONT OF ME. I FINISHED MY TRIP TO TOWN, ALLOWING FAR MORE BRAKING DISTANCE THAN NORMAL, AND RETURNED HOME AND LEFT THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE. I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL AND IT WAS WITHIN THE NORMAL RANGE BETWEEN MIN AND MAX. THIS MORNING I CONTACTED A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER FOR A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. *TR
NOTICED 6 LONG CRACKS ACROSS TOP AND FRONT OF DASHBOARD AND A GUMMY STICKY FEEL TO THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD. *JS
CHECK VSC SYSTEM DISPLAYED AND ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, EMERGENCY BRAKE AND CAUTION LIGHTS ARE ON AND THE BRAKES ARE VERY SLOW TO RESPOND. *TR
MY FAMILY AND I WERE GETTING INTO THE CAR FOR A DAY TRIP AND MY FATHER IN-LAW, WHO IS A LARGER MAN (APPROXIMATELY 300 POUNDS), SAT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. WHEN HE DID SO, THE PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG AND SEAT BELT SENSOR LIGHTS CAME ON. MY HUSBAND CHECKED TO BE SURE THAT THE SENSORS UNDER THAT SEAT WERE CONNECTED AND THEY WERE. THE AIRBAG AND SEAT BELT SENSOR LIGHTS HAVE CONTINUED TO REMAIN ON EACH TIME THE CAR IS RUNNING. *TR
HARD TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, WARNING LIGHTS, POTENTIAL BRAKE FAILURE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN CITY TRAFFIC, A NUMBER OF INDICATOR LIGHTS WITHIN THE DASHBOARD INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ILLUMINATED INCLUDING THE "BRAKE" INDICATOR, THE YELLOW BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR, THE ABS INDICATOR, AND ONE OTHER (MASTER WARNING LIGHT?) . AT THE SAME TIME A MESSAGE DISPLAYED IN THE STATUS SCREEN WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SHOWED "CHECK VSC SYSTEM." I IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND SLOW DOWN, AND HAD TO APPLY SIGNIFICANTLY MORE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL THEN TYPICAL. I COULD NOT SLOW AS QUICKLY AS I EXPECTED. TO AVOID RUNNING INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME I PRESSED EXTREMELY HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP. I PARKED THE CAR AND TURNED IT OFF, THEN RESTARTED IT. THE SAME INDICATOR LIGHTS AND MESSAGE DISPLAYED. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME VERY SLOWLY, BUT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE DIFFICULTY BRAKING DURING THAT DRIVE HOME. LATER THAT DAY WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR, THE INDICATOR LIGHTS AND WARNING MESSAGE DID NOT DISPLAY, AND THE BRAKES OPERATED NORMALLY. I WILL CONTACT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP THIS WEEK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A FIRE HYDRANT AND STREET SIGN. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
MY DASHBOARD HAS BEEN MELTING FOR THE LAST 2 MONTH AND NOW IS A STICKY AND HAS AN AWFUL GLARE THAT IS MAKING DRIVING VERY DIFFICULT FOR ME. THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING UNDER THE SUN. *TR
THE DASHBOARD IS STARTING TO MELT AND IS CAUSING GLARE ON THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING. NOTHING REMEDIES IT AND THERE IS QUESTION AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WILL DEPLOY PROPERLY DUE TO THE INCREASED ELASTICITY OF THE DASHBOARD. *TR
DASHBOARD IS MELTING IS VERY STICKY AND SHINY, I VISITED THE TOYOTA DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT, NO ONE SEEMED TO CARE. THEY ASKED ME TO CALL TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER , WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION THEY SIMPLY SAID IT WOULD HAVE TO BE MY ISSUE SINCE IT WAS OVER 3 YEARS, AND THAT A DASH BOARD WASN'T A SAFETY ISSUE. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING. CLEARLY IS A MANUFACTURES DEFECT AND THE COMPANY SHOULD BE RECALLING SOMETHING OF THIS NATURE BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE. THE GLARE IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING SPECIALLY DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. *TR
THE ISSUES STARTED WITH BOTH THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COMING ON EVERY SO OFTEN. THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON FOR ABOUT A 30 SECONDS TO A MINUTE AND THEN TURN OFF. THIS WOULD HAPPEN MAYBE ONCE OR TWICE A DAY. THEN THEY BEGAN TO TURN SEVERAL TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY FOR LONGER PERIODS OF TIME. WHEN THE ABS AND BREAK LIGHTS ARE ON, THE SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER FALLS TO ZERO, AND THE TEMPERATURE GAGE JUMPS UP AND DOWN. THE AC ALSO BEGINS TO BLOW HOT AIR WHEN THESE LIGHTS ARE ON AND THE CAR BEGINS TO SHAKE WHEN IDLE. IT IS VERY UNSAFE WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER IS NOT WORKING AND YOU CANT TELL HOW FAST YOU ARE DRIVING. IT IS ALSO AN ISSUE WHEN THE OTHER GAUGES IN YOUR VEHICLE ARE NOT WORKING AS YOU CANT TELL IF SOMETHING ELSE IS SERIOUSLY WRONG (FOR EXAMPLE, YOU CANT TELL IF YOUR CAR IS ACTUALLY RUNNING HOT OR COLD BECAUSE THE TEMPERATURE DIAL JUMPS UP AND DOWN). I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME ISSUE. I ALSO REPORTED THESE ISSUES TO TOYOTA AND SHARED WITH THEM MY RESEARCH AND THEY BASICALLY AREN'T GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
THE CAR IS EXPERIENCING MELTING DASHBOARD. THE DASHBOARD SURFACE IS MELTING AND BECOMING VERY STICKY. *TR
CAR FAILED VIRGINIA STATE INSPECTION BECAUSE OF A STEERING RACK LEAK AND TORN RACK BOOT. ACCORDING TO THE TECHNICIAN, THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SUDDEN LOSS OF ABILITY TO STEER.......UPDATED 01/12/15*BF *TR
THE DASHBOARD ON MY 2008 CAMRY HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY SOFT AND STICKY OVER THE PAST YEAR. IT IS STICKY TO THE TOUCH AND FEELS LIKE YOU ARE TOUCHING THE BACK OF SOME KIND OF TAPE. EVERYTHING STICKS TO IT AND IT IS EXTREMELY HARD TO CLEAN. THIS PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE OVER THE COURSE OF CALENDAR YEAR 2014. MY CAR DOES STAY OUTSIDE, SO PROBABLY DOES GET MORE SUN THAN IF IT STAYED IN A GARAGE; HOWEVER, A DASHBOARD SHOULD NOT START TO MELT JUST BECAUSE A CAR HAS BEEN OUT IN THE SUN. I HAVE PUT NO TYPE OF CLEANER ON THE DASHBOARD EXCEPT FOR MAYBE AN OCCASIONAL WIPE DOWN WITH ARMORALL (A PRODUCT THAT SHOULD NOT CAUSE THIS SITUATION). THE MORE THE DASHBOARD MELTS AND GETS STICKY, THE MORE I HAVE NOTICED A BRIGHT GLARE COMING OFF OF IT, WHICH I AM CONCERNED COULD CAUSE SOME VISIBILITY ISSUES WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. I KEPT MY PREVIOUS TOYOTA FOR OVER 10 YEARS, AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE LIKE THIS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECT WITH THIS MODEL CAR AND THAT TOYOTA SHOULD DO THE RESPONSIBLE THING AND FIX/CORRECT THIS PROBLEM FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
STARTED SMOKING, AND PULLED CAR TO SIDE OF ROAD. THEN CAMRY WAS ON FIRE. THE WHOLE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. THE CAR IS TOTALED. IT IS NOT WORTH ANYTHING. NOTHING CAN BE SALVAGED AT ALL THE INSIDE OF CAR WAS BURNT. NOW I DON'T HAVE A CAR. THE INSURANCE MIGHT NOT COVER THE CAR. *TR
I WAS AT A STOP SIGN CROSSING AN INTERSECTION THAT HAS NO TRAFFIC SIGNALS. THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE STREET I WAS CROSSING IS 45 MPH. I LOOKED BOTH WAYS AND SAW NO CARS, SO I PROCEEDED TO CROSS THE INTERSECTION. AS I ENTERED THE INTERSECTION, I WAS STRUCK BY A TRUCK IN THE LEFT FRONT CORNER PANEL OF MY CAR. I SPUN SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS STRUCK AGAIN IN THE BACK OF MY CAR. I WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS AND DID NOT REGAIN CONSCIOUSNESS UNTIL I WAS IN THE AMBULANCE. I WAS TRANSPORTED TO A TRAUMA HOSPITAL WHERE I WAS TREATED FOR A BROKEN CLAVICLE, BROKEN RIBS, MULTIPLE DEEP BODY BRUISING, AND A CONCUSSION. I UNDERWENT SURGERY TO REPAIR MY CLAVICLE AND TO THIS DAY STILL RECOVERING FROM MY INJURIES. I AM WRITING TODAY TO REQUEST AN INVESTIGATION BE MADE INTO THE FACT THAT NONE OF MY AIR BAGS DEPLOYED IN THIS ACCIDENT. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO TOYOTA AND RECEIVED NO RESOLUTION. I WOULD THINK THAT WITH THE MULTIPLE POINTS OF IMPACT ON MY VEHICLE THAT MY SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG OR MY DRIVER'S AIRBAG WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. I BELIEVE THAT IF THE AIRBAGS HAD DEPLOYED, I POSSIBLE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE BROKEN BONES I SUFFERED. I FEEL THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO FOR AT THE VERY LEAST TO PREVENT FURTHER ACCIDENT INJURIES. MY CAR HAD BEEN IN FOR SERVICE MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE YEAR PRIOR FOR ENGINE ISSUES AND MY ENGINE DID NEED TO BE REBUILT. I FEEL THAT MY AIRBAGS MAY HAVE BEEN FAULTY AS WELL. I AM ASKING THAT TOYOTA BE INVESTIGATED FOR THEIR PRACTICES AND THAT I BE COMPENSATED AT THE VERY LEAST FOR WAGES LOST DUE TO TIME LOST FROM WORK AND MEDICAL EXPENSES. CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ON. WHEN STEP ON BRAKE PEDAL, AIR CAME OUT UNDERNEATH FEET AND CAR WILL NOT STOP IMMEDIATELY. HAVE TO SLOW DOWN AND PUT MORE PRESSURE ON BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN. IT'S SCARY TO DRIVE ON. ASKING THE MECHANIC, HE SAID THAT WAS THE BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DECELERATED WHILE DRIVING AND THE RPMS INCREASED TO 600,000. THE VEHICLE ALSO LOST ACCELERATION WHILE DOWNSHIFTING AND THE RPMS INCREASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED FOR PREMATURE OIL CONSUMPTION; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE CONTACT ALSO ADVISED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS MELTING DUE TO DEFECTIVE MATERIAL. THE DASHBOARD WAS NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 336,822.
CAMRY IS HIT BY A PICK UP TRUCK ON THE LEFT PASSENGER SIDE, CAUSING THE CAMRY TO LOSE CONTROL AND ROTATE MORE THAN 360 DEGREES ON THE ROAD BUT NONE OF THE AIRBAGS, EVEN THE SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I CALLED TOYOTA AND ASKED BY THE SIDE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD INSPECT IT BUT THEY WILL BE CHARGING ME $99 TO CHECK WHY THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. I WAS OBVIOUSLY DISTRAUGHT OVER THE FACT THAT THEY WILL CHARGE ME FIRST BEFORE THEY CAN LOOK AT A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE ABOUT MY VEHICLE AND THE PERSON WE TALKED TO JUST BASICALLY ASKED ME TO CALL BACK IF I WANTED THEM TO LOOK INTO IT AND HUNG UP. *TR
THE FRONT DASHBOARD IS MELTING. IT IS BECOMING VERY STICKY (EVEN WITH A SUNSHADE) AND SHINY DURING WARMER DAYS. WHEN IT IS SHINY, THE GLARE CAN GET VERY BAD AND I HAVE HAD TO GET POLARIZED SUNGLASSES TO BLOCK THE GLARE. I AM REPORTING THIS ISSUE AFTER LEARNING THAT MANY OTHER CARS OF THIS SAME MAKE AND MODEL ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

MY ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN -ALL OF THEM. THOUGHT THE ENGINE WAS IDLING ROUGH, BUT THE ENGINE WAS MOVING AROUND WITHIN THE CAR AND "COULD HAVE FALLEN OUT" IS WHAT I UNDERSTOOD THE MECHANIC TO SAY. I PREVIOUSLY REPORTED VERY PREMATURE FAILURE OF BRAKES, BROKEN WATER PUMP, BELTS, AND MORE. NOW THE ENGINE MOUNTS. I DO NOT DRIVE FAST, AND I DRIVE SMOOTH HIGHWAYS, NOT OUR LOCALLY BAD STREETS. NO REASON THE MOUNTS SHOULD ALL BE BROKEN. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON ENGINE MOUNTS AND WATER PUMPS AT THE VERY LEAST. *TR

AS I WAS CLEANING THE INTERIOR OF MY 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH A CLEAN CLOTH AND STARTED TO SEE SOME DARK STAIN COMING OUT AND WHEN I TOOK A MINUTE TO FIND OUT, I REALIZED THAT MY DASHBOARD WAS MELTING. THIS IS NOT MY FIRST TOYOTA AND THIS MIGHT BE THE LAST. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH TOYOTA RIGHT NOW. THEY SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND FIX IT. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE FACING THIS ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A STRONG OIL ODOR WAS COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, WHILE REVERSING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED A SMALL PUDDLE OF OIL LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
ALL TOYOTAS WITH 2AZFE ENGINES AND THEIR VARIANTS NEED TO BE RECALLED. THERE IS AN INHERENT PROBLEM WITH EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW IN BOTH THE PISTONS AND RINGS OF THE ENGINES. THIS PROBLEM THEN LEADS TO PROBLEMS WITH THE EMISSIONS SYSTEMS CAUSING CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE, A/F SENSOR FAILURE AND OXYGEN SENSOR FAILURE. TOYOTA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION OIL ISSUE FOR YEARS AND HAS CORRECTED ITS DESIGN. BUT, THOSE WHO WERE UNAWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND NEVER INFORMED OF IT BY TOYOTA ARE LEFT IN THE DARK. MY ISSUE IS THAT THE OIL CONSUMPTION NOW AFFECTS THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM. IT IS INCREASING MORE DIFFICULT TO RAPIDLY ACCELERATE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS OIL CONSUMPTION HAS NOW RUINED MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND THUS MAKING ACCELERATION AT THE PROPER RATE IMPOSSIBLE. I WENT TO ACCELERATE AND MY CAR COULDN'T DO IT PROPERLY, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THEN I NOTICED MY MIL WAS ILLUMINATED. I HAD IT CHECKED AND ITS A P0420 CODE. I HAVE HAD THE CAR DIAGNOSTICALLY EXAMINED AND NOW THE CAR CANNOT MEET THE MINIMUM THRESHOLD FOR THE CAR'S ECM TO CONDUCT A SELF TEST, THUS ILLUMINATING THE MIL. I HAVE HEARD OF OTHERS RUNNING OUT OF OIL AND SEIZING THEIR ENGINES DURING OPERATION OF THEIR VEHICLES. THIS IS UNSAFE. NHTSA AND TOYOTA ARE BOTH KEENLY AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX THE VEHICLES THAT ARE ALREADY ON THE ROAD. I WENT TO MY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THAT TOYOTA WILL NOT FIX THESE VEHICLES WITHOUT THE CUSTOMER PAYING FOR THE REPAIR. THE INFORMAL QUOTE FOR THE ENGINE ALONE WAS $3500.00 ALONE, NOT INCLUDING THE EMISSIONS ISSUES. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. I HOPE YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. *TR
I OWN A TOYOTA CAMRY 2008, AND WITHIN THE LAST 3-4 MONTHS I HAVE NOTICED MY DASHBOARD IS GOOEY AND STICKY I CANT SEEM TO CLEAN IT OR GET RID OF THE STICKINESS. I HAVE CALLED THE TOYOTA HELP CENTER AND THEY REFUSED TO HELP ME OR PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS. I EXPLAINED TO THEM HOW BAD THE DAMAGE IS FOR ONLY TOYOTA TO DENY ANY RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE WENT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN CARSON, CALIFORNIA TO GET AN ESTIMATE OF $2,480.75 FOR REPAIRS. I WOULD THINK TOYOTA WOULD MAKE A RECALL AND GET THIS DASHBOARD SITUATION FIXED. NOW MY DASHBOARD IS CAUSING A GLARE ON MY DRIVERS SIDE TO ONLY MAKE THE SITUATION WORSE WHILE IM DRIVING ON THE ROAD. THE GLARE IS SUFFICIENT TO GIVE ME A BLIND SPOT. THE ABS ACTUATOR FAILED. MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP SEEMS UNAWARE THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE WITH MY CAR. THE REPAIR COST SO FAR IS $1800. IT SEEMS FROM ALL RESEARCH THAT THERE ARE OPTIONS, BUT MY DEALERSHIP HAS NOT OFFERED ME ANY NOR HAVE THE COMMUNICATE WELL. TRYING TO GET TO THE SERVICE MANAGER TODAY. THE DASHBOARD IN MY SOLARA STARTED TO MELT UNDER THE SUN. MY VEHICLE IS GARAGE KEPT AND IS MAINTAINED PROPERLY. THE DASH SHOWS NICKS IF YOU HIT IT WITH SOMETHING LIKE A FINGERNAIL. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AS I HAD THE DASH REPLACED AND MY DEALER WROTE THE PROBLEM WAS MATERIAL DEFECT. I HAD TO PAY THE LABOR OF OVER $400 AS MY DEALER ABSORBED THE COST OF THE DASH. TOYOTA BRUSHED ME OFF AND REFUSED TO EVEN PAY HALF THE COST. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND WE THE CUSTOMER SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR A MISTAKE BY TOYOTA. MY VEHICLES FRONT DASHBOARD HAS BECOME A GIANT STICKY MESS. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CLEAN. AS TIME GOES ON, IT BECOMES SHINIER AND STICKIER. IF A NAPKIN OR TISSUE TOUCHES IT, THE DASHBOARD "GLUE" WON'T LET GO OF IT. IT TRAPS AND KILLS INSECTS IF THEY TOUCH IT. MY ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, TEMP GAUGE, GEAR LIGHTS STOP WORKING, AND THE A/C STOP BLOWING COLD AIR, AND THE GAUGES BOUNCE AROUND. TRIED REPLACING THE DASH AND IT DID NOT WORK. TOOK IT TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND THEY CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG. HAD MY BRAKES CHECKED OUT AND THEY ARE FINE. I CAN PUSH THE UP/DOWN LOCK BUTTON ON MY DOOR AND THE GAUGES WILL START WORKING, BUT THAT DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK. I HAVE TO PUT GAS IN MY CAR EVERY WEEK BECAUSE OF THE GAS HAND NOT WORKING PROPERLY EITHER. I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME PROBLEM AND NO SOLUTIONS AND NO RECALLS. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL.
2008 CAMRY HYBRID STOPPED AT A GAS STATION WITH CAR WAS IN PARK. NO ONE IN CAR, CAR CAME OUT OF PARK, ROLLED OUT OF STATION, ACROSS FIRST 2 LANES, THEN MEDIAN, THEN 2 ADDITIONAL LANES AND ENDED UP IN A TREE IN/NEAR A SCHOOL YARD/PROPERTY. TOYOTA HAD ENGINEER REVIEW IN EARLY SEPT. TOYOTA WROTE LETTER IN JANUARY THAT THEY REFUSE TO FURTHER EVALUATE OR BE RESPONSIBLE FOR COLLISION. AN INSURANCE AGENT AT MY CARRIER HAD EXACTLY THE SAME ISSUE BUT HER DAMAGE WAS BELOW HER DEDUCTIBLE AND SHE JUST HAD IT REPAIRED WITHOUT TELLING TOYOTA. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME ON ROUTE 287 NEAR THE ROUTE 23 SOUTH EXIT. I BEGAN TO CHANGE LANES TO USE THE EXIT. AS I STARTED TO MOVE INTO THAT LANE, THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME HIT A PIECE OF BLOWN TIRE FROM A TRUCK. I DID NOT SEE THIS AND I HIT IT. THE TIRE RIPPED OFF THE RIGHT REAR OF MY BACK BUMPER PANEL. LUCKILY THE PERSON INBACK OF ME MISSED THE TIRE. IT WAS NOT UNTIL I GOT HOME THAT I FOUND THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR. I WAS LUCKY THAT I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT OR LOSE CONTRROL OF MY CAR. I AM VERY ANGRY BECAUE IF I REPORT THIS TO MY INSURANCE, IT WILL INCREASE MY RATES AND I WILL GET A SURCHARGE. SUN VISOR FAILS TO RETRACT AND HANGS INTO DRIVERS FIELD OF VISION. IT APPEARS THE ENTIRE HOUSING HAS BUSTED OUT OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUN VISORS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA AND I WAS TALK WITH MY FRIEND AND I TOOK MY EYES OFF THE ROAD AND BEFORE I KNEW IT, IT WAS TOO LATE AND I WENT STRAIGHT UP THE CURB THROUGH THE FRONT LAWN AN CRASHED INTO THE PILLAR OF THE PATIO AND THE GARAGE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY I HIT THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MY UPPER CHEST AN CHIN AND MOUTH THEN SOMEONE ASKED ME IF I WAS OK AN SAID THEY CALLED 911 AND THEY HELPED ME GET OUT OF THE CAR AN ASKED IF I WAS HURT AND THAT MY AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. THE COPS AND AMBULANCE ARRIVED AND I WAS IMMEDIATELY CHECKED OUT. I TOLD THEM I WAS OK, BUT MY CHEST HURT A LITTLE AND MY JAW. I HAVE LOVED MY TOYOTA SOLARA EXCEPT FOR ONE MAJOR ISSUE. A FEW YEARS AGO THE DASHBOARD BECAME STICKY AND GUMMY. EVERYTHING STICKS TO IT AND IT IS VERY SOFT TO THE TOUCH. IT IS TOTALLY MELTING AND THE DASHBOARD HAS CHANGED TO A SHINY SURFACE. THE BRIGHT AND SHINY DASHBOARD CREATES A HUGE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD RIGHT IN MY LINE OF VISION. LASTLY, THE DASHBOARD HAS BEGUN CRACKING...FIRST CRACK APPEARED BETWEEN THE AUDIO/RADIO SYSTEM AND THE GLOVE BOX A FEW WEEKS AGO. *TR
THE DASHBOARD TOP ON THIS VEHICLE HAS MELTED INTO A STICKY MESS WHICH IS A GLARING REPRESENTATION OF FAULTY MATERIALS USED IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF THIS COMPONENT OF AN OTHERWISE FINE CAR. THE ODOR AND GLARE OFF THE DASH IS ALSO QUITE DISTRACTING. TOYOTA SHOULD REALLY OFFER ITS CUSTOMERS A VERY LOW-COST SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM, IF NOT A COMPLIMENTARY FIX. *TR

STARTING IN 2012 AND INCREASINGLY GETTING WORSE, THE DASHBOARD BEGAN TO GET SHINY AND VERY STICKY. IT APPEARED TO BE MELTING. I FIRST NOTICED IT AT NIGHT WITH STREET LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS CREATING VERY BAD GLARE, I THOUGHT MY EYES WERE GETTING BAD UNTIL I DROVE ANOTHER VEHICLE. IT HAS PROGRESSED TO THE POINT THAT IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN THE DAY TIME ON BRIGHT DAYS WITHOUT SOMETHING ON THE DASH TO BLOCK THE REFLECTION. IT IS VERY STICKY TO THE TOUCH, ANTS WILLS WILL STICK TO THE DASHBOARD AND IT IS EASILY GOUGED. I HAVE TRIED TO CLEAN BUT IT DID NOT IMPROVE THE SITUATION. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD DUE TO THE GLARE DURING THE DAY SIGNIFICANTLY LIMITING VISIBILITY. MY FAMILY MEMBERS WHO MAY DRIVE THE CAR IMMEDIATELY NOTICE THE PROBLEM WHEN THEY DRIVE MY CAR AND STATE THEY DID NOT FEEL SAFE WITHOUT PUTTING A TOWEL OR SOMETHING ON THE DASHBOARD. *TR

UPON STARTING VEHICLE A "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" WARNING MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED. THE MAINTENANCE "!", "BRAKE DRUM", "TRAC" AND "ABS" WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. AN OBD2 CODE CHECK WAS PERFORMED AND A DIAGNOSTIC CODE "C0210 RH REAR SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT" WAS RETURNED. AUTHORIZED TOYOTA DEALER/SERVICE REPLACED THE RIGHT REAR SPEED SENSOR AND HUB. WARNING SIGNALS RESET WAS ATTEMPTED, BUT FAILED. DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINED. DEALER PROPOSED TO BEGIN REPLACING DOWN-STREAM PARTS UNTIL CODE WOULD BE ABLE TO BE RESET. THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE THAT ANY OF THE REPLACEMENTS WOULD CORRECT THE CODE OR RESET THE ABS & STABILITY SYSTEMS. AGGRESSIVE CONVERSATION BETWEEN THE DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA COULD NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE IS WITHOUT THE SAFETY OF THE ABS OR TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEMS AS LONG AS THE WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON. REVIEWING MULTIPLE INTERNET SITES CONCERNING THIS TOYOTA VEHICLE RELATED PROBLEM REVEALS NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND TEMPORARY SOLUTIONS, WHICH ULTIMATELY FAIL. IT IS SURPRISING WITH THE VOLUMINOUS CUSTOMER-LOGGED COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE THAT TOYOTA HAS NOT DEEPENED ITS INVESTIGATION ON HOW TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IT APPEARS THAT THEY HAVE DETERMINED THAT EACH COMPLAINT IS IN INDIVIDUAL PROBLEM AND THEREFORE EASILY IGNORED.
