TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HV. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL) WHERE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS MODIFIED BY SHAVING IT DOWN. WHEN THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE VEHICLE BACK FROM THE AUTHORIZED DEALER, THE CONTACT STATED IT WAS DIFFICULT TO KEEP HIS FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHILE DRIVING, NEARLY CAUSING A FEW CRASHES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TO BE EXAMINED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 9,428.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHITE PARTICLES WERE BEING EMITTING THROUGH THE VENTILATION SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER SEVERAL TIMES WHERE THE EVAPORATOR WAS REPLACED TWICE AND THE VENTS WERE CLEANED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AND BECAME WORSE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,449 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 21,000. THE VEHICLE HAD A WATER PUMP LEAK AND WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. I NOTICED THE DROP IN THE COOLANT LEVEL AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER. *TR
TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID HAS AN INSUFFICIENT WARNING LABEL ON THE HIGH VOLTAGE SERVICE PLUG. THE SMALL TYPE AND THE TINY INTERNATIONAL SYMBOLS ARE NOT RECOGNIZABLE UNTIL YOU TAKE CAP OUT TO READ THE MESSAGE. AFTER I REMOVED THE CAP TO READ THE MESSAGE, I DISCOVERED IT WAS A WARNING MESSAGE NOT TO REMOVE THE CAP. I WAS INDEED FORTUNATE NOT TO HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. AS IT WAS, I DISABLED MY CAR AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE SERVICE MODULE RESET. AFTER ALTERING MY TRAVEL PLANS AND TOWING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, I DISCOVERED THAT THE PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN RESOLVED BY PUSHING THE CAP DOWN AND DRIVING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPROGRAMMING. IF THE DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURER HAD GIVEN ME THE INFORMATION I REQUESTED, I COULD HAVE AVOIDED CONSIDERABLE WASTED TIME AND EXPENSE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT NOTICED A LOUD METAL TO METAL SOUND WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE SOUND WOULD CEASE ONCE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ROTORS WERE WARPED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE PROGRESSED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE DEALER THEN DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE PADS WERE FRACTURED IN TWO. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT WITH THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 26,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 34,000.
CAR WOULD NOT START. GOT A JUMP, BUT SEVERAL MINUTES LATER WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE ENGINE STALLED THREE SEPARATE TIMES. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE BLOCK ASSEMBLY FUSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000.
HELLO MY DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND MELTED. ALSO MY SUNROOF DOESN'T CLOSE ALL THE WAY WHICH CAUSES RAIN TO COME IN I PURCHASED IT LIKE THAT.
RE TOYOTA CAMRY 2009. HAD RECALL WORK DONE ON FEB. 2010 WHERE MAT WAS SECURED. THE CAR ACCELERATED ON MAY 10, 2010, IN PARKING LOT OF RESTAURANT AND WAS STOPPED BY LARGE CURB. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRES WERE FEATHERING. THE ALIGNMENT WAS CHECKED AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE ALIGNMENT WAS NORMAL. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THE FAILURE WAS COMMON IN HIS PARTICULAR MODEL TIRES. THE CONTACT STATED HE WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF AN ISSUE WITH THE TIRES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR RECALL 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL) WHERE THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING 4 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, CRASHED INTO A PLATE GLASS WINDOW AND WALL INSIDE A BUILDING AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL GEAR, THEN INTO DRIVE UNTIL HE WAS ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED HE NOTICED WHEN BRAKING, THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN STOPPING TIME. THE DEALER MADE UNKNOWN UPDATES AND CHANGES TO THE VEHICLE COMPUTER THAT WAS TO ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO STOP FASTER WHEN BRAKING. AFTERWARDS, WHILE BRAKING FROM SPEEDS OF 25 MPH, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 30 MPH, THE CONTACT REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARRANT. SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE ACCELERATION BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,497 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,778.

AFTER THE PEDAL WAS REPLACED THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN TO BE INSPECTED. THERE WERE NO ADDITIONAL REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 15,000.
I WAS PULLING INTO A RESTAURANT PARKING LOT AND HAD FOUND A HANDICAPPED SPACE FOR MY WIFE. THE CAR WAS SLOWLY INCHING FORWARD WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE CONTROLLING ITS FORWARD MOTION. SUDDENLY IT LURCHED FORWARD, OVER A CURB AND INTO A HANDICAP SIGN SUPPORT POLE, WHICH IN TURN BENT FORWARD AND KNOCKED A CAST STONE STATUE AGAINST A PAINTED PANEL ATTACHED TO THE RESTAURANT WALL. I WAS PUSHING DOWN ON THE BRAKE THE ENTIRE TIME. *TR
WHEN I AM BRAKING AND GO OVER A BUMP, THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT SPEEDS UP BEFORE BRAKING RESUMES. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER IN MARCH 2010 FOR THE REPAIRS ASSOCIATED WITH RECALLS 09V388000 & 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL). HE HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY FAILURES BEFORE THE REPAIRS WERE MADE. ON MARCH 25, 2010, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHILE HIS FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONTACT CONTINUED APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AND WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL GEAR WHICH STOPPED THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND A TECHNICIAN FROM CHICAGO INSPECTED IT; HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REQUESTED A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE DUE TO SAFETY RISK WITH THE CURRENT VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 16,040. FAX FWD ON BEHALF OF RE HIS 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY USED IN SEVERAL TV NEWS REPORTS RE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, HIS VEHICLE WAS TESTED BY TOYOTA FOR 8 DAYS AND RESULTS WERE SENT TO NHTSA, REQUESTING A COPY OF RESULTS, REPLY TO NEW YORK, NY OFC. *TGW TOYOTA COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *JB

HOWEVER, AS THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO TWO PARKED VEHICLES. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE BEFORE THE CRASH BUT THE VEHICLE STILL MOVED FORWARD. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 18,700.

THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE PULLING INTO A DRIVEWAY AT SPEEDS OF 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE DOOR. THE ENGINE CONTINUED IDLING EXTREMELY HIGH AND THE TIRES CONTINUED TO SPIN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP ATTEMPTING TO CONTINUE ACCELERATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HAVING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED TO ASSESS THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN SINCE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 7,322.
DRIVER SEAT STOPS FUNCTIONING UP AND DOWN. TOOK IT TO ROSEVILLE TOYOTA AND THEY DIDN'T REPAIR AND TOLD US IT IS FUNCTIONING NOW. CALLED SEVERAL TIMES AND NO ONE CARES. NOW THE CAMRY HAS 46,000 MILES THEY JUST TOLD ME IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. ALSO TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE REFUSED IT AND TOLD ME IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. EARLY APRIL, I ATTEMPTED TO ROTATE TIRES ON A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. AFTER JACKING UP THE VEHICLE AND REMOVING THE LUG NUTS, I WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE TIRE, DESPITE USING A TECHNIQUE OF PLACING A 2X6 ACROSS THE TIRE AND HITTING IT WITH A 3 POUND HAMMER. I SPLIT THE 2X6 WITHOUT ANY AFFECT UPON THE TIRE. I PHONED TOYOTA HQ IN NY AND SUBSEQUENTLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO SCHAUMBURG IL TOYOTA WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY USED A SLEDGE HAMMER TO LOOSEN THE TIRES. WHEN I RETURNED HOME AND AFTER I JACKED UP THE VEHICLE AT ALL 4 POINTS, I STILL HAD TO LAY DOWN AND USE A 3 POUND HAMMER AND HIT THE INSIDE OF THE STEEL WHEEL MULTIPLE TIMES FOR EACH WHEEL IN ORDER TO REMOVE EACH WHEEL. WITHOUT A VERY HEAVY HAMMER AND THE ACT OF HITTING THE STEEL WHEEL WITH TREMENDOUS FORCE, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE A WHEEL. SINCE I PREVIOUSLY LIFTED WEIGHTS BENCHING 390 POUNDS, I DO NOT CONSIDER MYSELF AVERAGE IN TERMS OF THE ABILITY TO CHANGE A TIRE. WITHOUT A VERY HEAVY HAMMER AND THE STRENGTH TO DELIVER TREMENDOUS FORCE TO THE WHEELS, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CHANGE A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY TIRE. SINCE IT IS MANDATORY FOR MANUFACTURES TO PROVIDE THE MEANS TO CHANGE TIRES IN AN EMERGENCY, TOYOTA HAS MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR VIRTUALLY THE ENTIRE USER COMMUNITY TO CHANGE A TIRES. THIS CONSTITUTES AN EXTREME RISK TO OWNERS AND PASSENGERS WHERE A TIRE FAILURE OCCURS AND THERE IS NO HEAVY HAMMER AND THE INDIVIDUALS DO NOT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO FREE THE ON-VEHICLE WHEEL. I WROTE 3 LETTERS TO TOYOTA HQ JAPAN AND RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM TOYOTA NY WHERE THEY INDICATED THAT IT IS NECESSARY TO ROTATE TIRES EVERY 5,000 MILES. DUE THE EXTREMELY CLOSE FIT OF THE WHEEL TO THE AXLE ASSEMBLY AND THE PROPENSITY OF THE AXLE ASSEMBLY METALLIC COMPOSITION TO OXIDIZE AND THE ACT OF TIGHTENING THE LUG NUTS WHICH PRESSES THE METAL WHEEL ON TO THE AXLE ASSEMBLY, THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO TIME PERIOD IN WHICH USERS ARE ABLE TO REMOVE A WHEEL WITHIN NORMAL CONSTRAINTS. AFTER PERFORMING A GAS PEDAL REOPERATION ON A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY THERE WAS A CONSTANT CLICKING NOISE AND A FEELING DETENT WHEN PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR AFTER A STOP. THE DEALER AGREED WITH THE PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE GAS PEDAL WITH A NEW ONE. THE NEW PEDAL IS A IMPROVEMENT BUT THE CLICKING IS STILL COMING FROM, I BELIEVE, THE SPRING INSIDE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HOUSING. THE DEALER SAID HE COULD NOT DO ANYTHING MORE. I PERSONALLY REMOVED THE PEDAL AND FILLED THE SPRING CAVITY FULL WITH VERY THICK LUBRICATION GREASE. THE NOISE IS NOW ABOUT 50%GONE, SOMETIMES FOR A DAY OR TWO BUT STILL RETURNS EVENTUALLY WHEN I SLIGHTLY PRESS ON THE PEDAL FROM A STOP. THE SPRING I THINK HAS TOO MUCH ROOM TO MOVE AROUND OR IS NOT REMAINING SEATED. THIS IS A VERY ANNOYING NUISANCE PROBLEM HEARING THIS CLICKING THAT DID NOT EXIST WHEN I HAD THE OLD STYLE GAS PEDAL. *TR
ENGINE OIL LEAK IN 2009 CAMRY LE 4 CYLINDER. THIS CAR HDS A REAR MAIN SEAL REPLACED AT 30K MILES AND THE LEKD RETURNED. THEN HAD A SHORT BLOCK REPLACED AT 34K MILES. LEAK RETURNED W/I 277 MILES OF SHORT BLACK REPLACEMENT. FILING ARBITRATION. VEHICLE STILL LEAKING AND ENGINE OIL LEAK IS VERY OBVIOUS. *TR
GAS PEDAL STUCK WHILE ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY I-75, TRAVELING AT 60MPH. WHEN I STEPPED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR IN ORDER TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK DOWN. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE EVEN AFTER I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE PEDAL. I WAS THEN ABLE TO FREE THE PEDAL BY WEDGING MY FOOT UNDERNEATH THE PEDAL AND PUSHING UP ON THE PEDAL. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL GEAR BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. HE THEN SHIFTED INTO PARK AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A SCREECHING HALT. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED AT AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 24,000. EMAIL FROM THE OFFICE OF CONGRESSMAN ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE ACCELERATION PROBLEMS IN TOYOTA CAMRY MODELS. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON FEB 5, 2010 REGARDING THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM. HOWEVER, ON MARCH 25, 2010 AS THE CONSUMER REMOVED THE GEAR FROM PARK TO DRIVE, WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AND ROAR, THE RPM'S HAD REDLINED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MOVE FORWARD AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING FORWARD. THE CONSUMER PUT THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE VEHICLE WAS STILL ACCELERATING. THE CONSUMER THEN IMMEDIATELY SHIFTED THE GEAR INTO PARK AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A SCREECHING HALT. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR AN INSPECTION. HOWEVER, THE INSPECTION REVEALED NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THE TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO EXCESS WEAR, DESPITE THE TIRE ROTATIONS THAT WERE PERFORMED EVERY 5,000. *JB
WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ENGINE OF MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY RACED UNCONTROLLABLY. WHILE KEEPING THE CAR BRAKED, I SHIFTED FIRST TO NEUTRAL AND THEN TO PARK, DURING WHICH TIME THE ENGINE SIMPLY CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE FURTHER. ONCE IN PARK, I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND EVERYTHING SHUT OFF. ON WEDNESDAY MARCH 17, 2010 I TOOK MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN CHESTER, VA TO HAVE MY VEHICLE SERVICED DUE TO THE RECENT RECALL ISSUE. THIS MORNING WHILE DRIVING TO WORK I NOTICED THAT WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS PEDAL, MY CAR ACCELERATES JUST A BIT AND/OR STICKS JUST FOR A FEW MOMENTS AND THEN DECELERATES . THE VEHICLE WAS DOING THIS PRIOR TO THE SERVICE, AND IS STILL DOING THIS AFTER THE VEHICLE MAINTENANCE WAS COMPLETED YESTERDAY. I FEEL THAT WHATEVER "FIX" TOYOTA IS PERFORMING ON THE RECALLED VEHICLES IS NOT WORKING. I FEEL IT IS NOT A MECHANICAL ISSUE, I FEEL IT IS AN ELECTRONIC ISSUE. I HAVE READ THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE "FIX" TOYOTA IS ISSUING FOR THEIR VEHICLES. I AM AT A LOSS OF WHAT TO DO SINCE TOYOTA DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE A RELIABLE "FIX" FOR THE RECALLED VEHICLES YET. IN MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY LE, THE RECIRCULATION SWITCH TURNS OFF AFTER ABOUT THREE MINUTES, LETTING IN AIR FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WHENEVER I'M BEHIND A DIESEL VEHICLE. MY CAR FILLS WITH FUMES THAT AFFECT MY BREATHING. THE FIRST TIME I WENT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER, THEY SAID IT WAS A STANDARD FIX, AND WOULD COST ME $50. WHEN I WENT IN A SECOND TIME, AND SAID I DIDN'T WANT TO PAY, THEY SAID THERE WAS NO WAY TO FIX IT. IT'S CLEAR TO ME THAT THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT, THAT WILL HAVE A DETRIMENTAL EFFECT ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS, AND THAT TOYOTA NEEDS TO FIX IT. *TR

AFTER COMING TO A STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, MY CAR ENGINE SPED UP, FORCING ME TO PRESS DOWN HARDER ON THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO INCREASE IN SPEED, AND I PLACED THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, AT WHICH POINT THE ENGINE RACED QUITE HIGH. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, THE ENGINE STOPPED, AND I RESTARTED IT A FEW SECONDS LATER WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
