FAILURE OF COMBO METER ASSEMBLY (GAUGE CLUSTER) IN 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID, RESULTING IN VEHICLE NOT TRANSITIONING TO GAS ENGINE POWER. ALL ALERT LIGHTS DISPLAY, AND VEHICLE ONLY OPERATES ON BATTERY POWER. VEHICLE WILL OPERATE AT MIN. POWER UNTIL BATTERY EMPTY. NO WARNING OF IMPENDING FAILURE. VEHICLE WILL NOT COMMUNICATE WITH DEALERSHIP SERVICE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTERS, REQUIRING EXTENSIVE COMMUNICATION WITH CALIFORNIA TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER. VEHICLE ROUTINELY SERVICED USING TOYOTA RECOMMENDED SERVICE SCHEDULES AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THIS FAILURE HAS OCCURRED THREE (3) TIMES, THE FIRST TWO (2) EVENTS WITHIN 11 MONTHS, THE 3RD EVENT WITHIN 14 DAYS OF LAST DEALERSHIP REPAIR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO HIGHER SPEEDS. APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK LATER THE VEHICLE JUST COMPLETELY STALLED. NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 11,400.
TOYOTA CAMRY 2009 ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO SLUDGING. MY LEASED 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY (JUST TWO YEAR OLD CAR) RECENTLY HAD DIED RIGHT ONA ROAD WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT TO MY MECHANIC. FEW DAYS BEFORE THAT I NOTICED A CLANKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. CALL MY MECHANIC AND GOT AN APPOINTMENT. ON THE DAY OF THE APPOINTMENT NOTICED CLANKING NOISE INCREASE WHEN I STARTED ENGINE. NOT EVEN 2 MILES LATER MY ENGINE -BOOM!- HAD THROWN ROD THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE CASE, MAKING A LARGE HOLE, SPILLING OIL ALL OVER THE ROAD. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT AND PULL TO THE SIDE WITHOUT CAUSING ACCIDENT. TOWED CAR TO THE NEAREST TOYOTA CENTER, WHERE THEY OPENED TOP COVER OF THE ENGINE AND RIGHT AWAY ANNOUNCED THAT ENGINE IS GELLED AND TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE TO THEM THE SLUDGE THEY SAW LOOKED LIKE CLEAR CASE OF POOR MAINTENANCE. EVEN THOUGH I CAREFULLY KEPT AND PRODUCED ALL RECEIPTS SHOWING THAT I WAS CHANGING OIL, FILTER AND ROTATED TIRES EVERY 5000 MILES. MY INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWED THAT THERE COULD BE A LOT MORE REASONS TO SLUDGE BUILD-UP THAN JUST POOR OIL CHANGE HABIT, BUT AS FAR AS I AM AWARE, TOYOTA DID NOT PERFORM ANY TESTS OR CHECKS ON MY CAR. JUST ONE LOOK AND-VOILA- THEY ALREADY KNOW THAT IT IS MY FAULT. FACT THAT THIS IS MY 3-RD BACK-TO-BACK TOYOTA LEASE AND THAT I ALWAYS KEEP RECEIPTS OF SERVICE DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING TO THEM. $7000-$8000 REPAIR OUT OF MY POCKET IS OUT OF QUESTION. I WILL SPEAK WITH TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS IN CALIFORNIA. IF THIS WILL NOT RESOLVE MY PROBLEM, I WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO ENGAGE MY ATTORNEY AND LITIGATE. I ALSO WANT TO OPEN A CASE AND REPORT DANGEROUS SITUATION I WAS PUT THROUGH DUE TO CAMRY ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING ON A ROAD AT 50 MI/H. I COULD EASILY BE LESS LUCKY. *TR
DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR FALLS DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY. WILL NOT STAY IN PLACE EXCEPT FOR FULL DOWN POSITION. THIS HAS BEEN SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. WAS SEARCHING FOR HOW TO FIX IT AND FOUND LINK TO HERE. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL TOYOTA VISORS AND IS DUE TO BAD DESIGN AND POOR MATERIALS. TOYOTA DOES NOT STAND BEHIND IT AND THE REPLACEMENT VISORS ARE THE SAME JUNK AS ORIGINAL.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AND ROTOR ON THE DRIVER REAR SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE PAD HAD BROKEN IN HALF AND DAMAGED THE ROTORS. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR COSTS. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 21,000.
PRIOR TO THESE INCIDENTS, THE VEHICLE WAS CHECKED BY THE DEALER ON THEIR RECALL. I WAS TRAVELING ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. I APPROACHED A SLIGHT INCLINE IN THE ROAD AND THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED AS NORMAL. TACHOMETER WENT FROM 2000 RPM TO 3000 RPM. THEN SUDDENLY THERE WAS A SUDDEN UNCONTROLLABLE ACCELERATION IN WHICH THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO 4500 RPM AND THE ENGINE WAS SCREAMING AS THOUGH IT WAS ABOUT TO BLOW APART. MY FOOT WAS NOT IN CONTACT WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE FLOOR MAT HAD BEEN REMOVED PER THE DEALER INSTRUCTIONS. I IMMEDIATELY PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHICH STOPPED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. IF THIS HAD BEEN ON A WET HIGHWAY OR IN TRAFFIC THERE WOULD SURELY HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. THIS SAME INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED 4 TIMES WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPORTED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER SEVERAL CONVERSATIONS WITH TOYOTA, THEY SAID THAT THEY WILL MAKE A RECORD OF MY INCIDENTS BUT, TOYOTA WILL DO NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS HAD TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM OR THE COMPUTER/SOFTWARE CONTROLLING IT.
LEAKING FRONT STRUTS: I REPORTED THE FINDING TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER (SCOTT TOM TOYOTA, NAMPA, IDAHO) AND ALSO CALLED THE MAIN TOYOTA CUSTOMER CENTER. THE LOCAL DEALER'S SERVICE ASSOCIATE CONFIRMED THE EXISTENCE OF THE LEAKAGE. I WAS TOLD THE AMOUNT OF THE LEAKAGE IS "SMALL," "NORMAL," NO NEED TO REPAIR AT THIS POINT, AND IF I WANT TO HAVE IT REPLACED THEN ITS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. I BELIEVE LEAKING STRUTS ISSUE IS VERY COMMON TO TOYOTA CAMRY AND MAY POSE POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ON A COLD ENGINE, THE CONTACT COULD HEAR A RATTLING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. ON THE MORNING OF OCT 22 '10 , I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK WHEN SUDDENLY MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY ACCELERATED, I TRIED APPLYING THE BRAKES, HOWEVER TO NO AVAIL.. I TRIED TO STEER THE CAR OUT OF THE WAY DUE TO IT WAS A BUSY INTERSECTION ..IT FINALLY CAME TO A STOP WHEN IT CRASHED HEAD ON INTO A VEHICLE ( AFTER CRASHING INTO 2 MORE ON THE WAY), THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED, ALSO NOTE THAT I HAD TAKING IT A FEW MONTHS BACK FOR THE RECALL; I WAS BRUISED , HOWEVER THE MENTAL SCARS WHICH ARE THE WORSE, CANNOT BE SEEN, CONSTANTLY THINKING OF WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN, I'M REPORTING THIS INCIDENT BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH I WOULD NEVER WANT ANYONE TO GO THRU WHAT I WENT THRU, UNFORTUNATELY IT WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN IF NOTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT, I AM URGING THE NHTSA AND ANY OTHER ENTITIES THAT HAVE THE POWER, TO KEEP THE ROADS & THE PUBLIC SAFE, THIS IS AN URGENT MATTER AND HOPEFULLY SOMETHING DRASTIC CAN BE DONE BEFORE WE LOSE MORE LIVES. *TR
HAVING PARKED THE CAR OVERNIGHT IN THE GARAGE, GOT IN CAR WITH PASSENGER AND ATTEMPTED TO BACK OUT OF GARAGE. CAR LUNGED FORWARD, THEN CORRECTING ITSELF AND STARTED BACKWARD. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BOTH IN THE GARAGE AND IN PARKING LOTS. MENTIONED PROBLEM TO FRIEND WITH SAME CAR AND HE SAID HE HADN'T NOTICED A PROBLEM BUT CAME TO WORK SEVERAL MONTHS LATER AND SAID IT HAD HAPPENED TO HIM WHILE HIS WIFE WAS A PASSENGER.
2009 TOYOTA CAMRY - EXCESSIVE ACCELERATION AND ABRUPT CHANGE IN TRANSMISSION WHEN CRUISE CONTROL TRIES TO CATCH UP WITH THE SET SPEED LIMIT AFTER A DIP IN SPEED- TOYOTA TECH SAW THE PROBLEM, ACCEPTS THAT ITS HAPPENING - TOYOTA'S RESPONSE "GET USED TO IT". *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH DOWNHILL WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT AS THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
MY DAUGHTER WAS EXITING A PARKING GARAGE ON A DESCENDING RAMP GOING AT THE MOST ABOUT 10 MPH IN OUR 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. SHE HAD HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THERE WERE CARS IN FRONT OF HER. THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. SHE PUSHED HARD ON THE BRAKE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR TO NO EFFECT. SHE TURNED INTO THE GARAGE WALL TO STOP THE CAR SO AS NOT TO RUN INTO THE VEHICLES AHEAD OF HER. WHEN SHE EXITED THE CAR TO GET HELP THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS COMPLETELY ON THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE. ABS SURGING AND FLUCTUATING DURING STOPPING. *TR
I HAVE A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY LE THAT I HAVE OWNED FOR LESS THAN TWO YEARS. CURRENTLY HAS LESS THAN 13,000 MILES. THE 40,000 MILE BRIDGESTONE TURANZA TIRES, SIZE 215/60/16 THAT CAME WITH THIS CAR, HAVE WORN DOWN TO 5/32 WITHIN 18 MONTHS. THAT IS 1/2 OF THE TREAD GONE. MINIMAL CITY DRIVING WITH VERY LITTLE FREEWAY DRIVING. ALWAYS PROPERLY INFLATED AND ROTATED EVERY 5,000 MILES .I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES. I DID NOT REPLACE THEM THROUGH THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. I PURCHASED QUALITY TIRES ELSEWHERE. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT A CONSUMER SPENDS OVER $20,000 FOR A VEHICLE AND MUST REPLACE THE TIRES WITH SO FEW MILES. AFTER READING ALL OF THE NEGATIVE REPORTS ABOUT THESE TIRES FROM CONSUMERS, I DID NOT COMPLAIN TO TOYOTA OR BRIDGESTONE, BECAUSE IT IS APPARENTLY A LOST CAUSE. I AM TOTALLY DISGUSTED WITH TOYOTA AND THE POOR QUALITY THEY HAVE BEEN SELLING OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS. *TR
MY TOYOTA CAMRY GOT A NEW GAS PEDAL THROUGH TOYOTA RECENT RECALL PROGRAM. HOWEVER THE NEW GAS PEDAL HAS MUCH LESS RESISTANCE THAN THE ORIGINAL ONE AND OTHER PEDAL IN A NEW CAMRY, WHICH MADE THE CAR EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE SPEED. *TR

I PURCHASE A CAMRY AND THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING. *TR
ON AUGUST 31, 2010,OCCURRED AN CAR ACCIDENT IN MAYAGUEZ, PUERTO RICO. THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED TOTAL LOSS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE TOYOTA CAMRY 2009 IMPACTS STRAIGHT TO A CONCRETE FENCE APPROXIMATE 65-44 MPH FIVE SECONDS BEFORE THE IMPACT. IN SEVERAL OCCASION, I TRIED TO REACH TOYOTA OF PR TO REQUIRE THAT INSPECT MY VEHICLE BECAUSE NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. FINALLY, ON OCT 2010 THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY PICK UP THE VEHICLE BUT I RETAIN THE COMPUTER OF THE VEHICLE. ON DEC. 23 , TOYOTA OF PR WROTE ME A LETTER, IN WHICH INFORM THAT THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOYED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IMPACTS TO A POST THAT IS A FLEXIBLE BARRIER APPROXIMATE 13.2 MPH. I'M TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH THE TOYOTA INFORM BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IMPACT TO A REINFORCED CONCRETE FENCE AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY DECLARED TOTAL LOSS THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA DIDN'T CORRECT THE FAILURE. *TR
2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR DROPPED TO THE DOWN POSITION BLOCKING SITE VISIBILITY ( THIS OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AND WAS IN MOTION ON A PUBLIC HIGHWAY) AND IT WILL NOT STAY IN THE RETRACTED (AGAINST THE ROOF) POSITION. IT CONTINUES TO OBSTRUCT VISION WHEN IN THE FORWARD POSITION AND BLOCKS PERIPHERAL VISION WHEN SWUNG UP AGAINST THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW. WHEN THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED THEIR REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT IT IS A COMMON AND ONGOING PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA. SEARCHES ON THE INTERNET REVEAL THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS PERSISTED FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. IT IS HIGHLY LIKELY THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL LEAD TO VEHICULAR DAMAGED AND/OR PERSONAL INJURY IF IT HAS NOT ALREADY. *TR
I OWN A 2009 CAMRY...ONE THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED AND WILL BE ADDRESSED THROUGH MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. HOWEVER, ON THREE OR FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS, AS I WAS BACKING OUT FROM A PARKING SPACE AND/OR MY GARAGE, AS I APPLIED MY BRAKES, THERE WOULD BE A SIMULTANEOUS ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO THE REAR OF HER HOME, ANOTHER VEHICLE AND A ROW OF HEDGES BEFORE THE VEHICLE FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. THE CONTACT WAS UNINJURED HOWEVER, THERE WAS EXTENSIVE BODY DAMAGE TO THE FRONT AND SIDES OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
WHILE COMING TO A STOP IN MY DRIVEWAY MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HAD SUDDEN SURGE WITH MY FEET ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR RAN AWAY AND HIT MY HOUSE, BIRD BATHS, SMOKER ON TRAILER, WENT INTO NEIGHBORS DRIVEWAY AND HIT A VAN AND FINALLY CAME TO REST IN A HEDGE ROW. THE PHYSICAL EVIDENCE AND POLICE REPORT SHOW THE BRAKES WERE ON. THE GAS PEDAL WAS REPLACED IN MARCH UNDER THE RECALL. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *TR

SHE WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF A FIRE BUT APPEARED THAT THE SEAT HAD SOMEHOW OVERHEATED AND MELTED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR PROVIDE A CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 36,122. UPDATED 11/16/10. *LJ
TL*THE CONTACT 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH HE TRIED TO STOP THE VEHICLE BUT THE BRAKES FAILED AND HE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HIM. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AND TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. HE SUFFERED NECK, SHOULDER, AND BACK INJURIES. THE POLICE RESPONDED TO THE CRASH AND FILED A REPORT BUT HE DOESN'T HAVE A COPY. SEVERAL WEEKS AGO, I HAD A COUPLE OF INCIDENCES, WHERE MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY GEAR LEVER WOULD NOT SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF TURNING ON/OFF IGNITION, DEPRESSING BRAKES, AND TUGGING LEVER, THE GEAR WOULD THEN SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE. ON 08-01-2010, I WENT TO THE MALL AND SPENT SEVERAL HOURS THERE. WHEN I TURNED ON THE IGNITION, FEET ON THE BRAKES, THE SHIFT LEVER WOULD NOT BUDGE. AFTER 30-45 MINUTES OF TRYING TO SHIFT THE LEVER, I DECIDED TO CALL MALL SECURITY TO CALL FOR A TOW. THE SECURITY GUARD SUGGESTED THAT HE SHOULD GIVE IT A TRY, "THE LEVER SHIFTED FROM PARK TO DRIVE". I WAS VERY CONCERNED. IN THE PREVIOUS INCIDENCES, IT NEVER TOOK SO LONG FOR THE LEVER TO SHIFT. THE INCIDENCES HAVE OCCURRED FIRST THING IN THE MORNING; AFTER WORK OR AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING FOR A NUMBER OF HOURS. ON 08-02-2010, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, FIRST THING IN THE MORNING; I WAS THERE AT 6:35AM. AFTER I EXPLAINED THE ABOVE, THEY INSPECTED AND TEST DROVE THE CAR. THE SERVICE PERSON CAME BACK TO ME AND INFORMED ME THAT SOMETHING MUST HAVE SPILLED ON/IN THE GEAR BOX. I ABSOLUTELY DENIED THAT ASSUMPTION. HE THEN STATED THAT THEY WOULD TAKE APART THE GEAR BOX. AGAIN, HE CAME BACK AND STATED THAT SOMETHING STICKY WAS FOUND "ON TOP" AND GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE FOR REPLACING GEAR SHAFT. AGAIN, I ABSOLUTELY DENIED THAT ANYTHING FELL ON OR IN THE GEAR BOX. AND, WHY WAS I NOT SUMMONED TO LOOK AND THIS STICKY RESIDUE. HE THEN CALLED THE SERVICE MANAGER, WHO ATTEMPTED TO EXPLAIN THAT HE COULD NOT JUSTIFY REPLACING GEAR SHAFT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS NOT BEING DETECTED AT THE PRESENT TIME. AND, THERE IS ABOUT 7 OR 8 REASONS WHY THE GEAR LEVER WOULD NOT SHIFT. HOWEVER, THEY GAVE ME A QUOTE TO REPLACE GEAR SHAFT. I WAS ABLE TO SPEAK TO ONE OF THE TECHNICIANS, WITHOUT THE MANAGER BEING PRESENT, WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING DEFINITELY WRONG WITH THE GEAR SHAFT. *TR
A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO WHEN I TRIED TO RAISE THE SHOULDER HEIGHT OF THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT, I HAD TO USE EXCESSIVE THUMB PRESSURE TO PUSH ON THE ELLIPTICAL BUTTON TO UNLOCK THE ADJUSTER AND RAISE IT. DURING THIS PROCESS I HEARD SOMETHING SNAP INSIDE THE PLASTIC ENCLOSURE AND THE VERTICAL HEIGHT BUTTON CANNOT BE DEPRESSED, HENCE THE MECHANISM IS LOCKED IN PLACE AND CANNOT BE MOVED IN EITHER THE UP OR DOWN DIRECTION. NOTE, THAT THE SEAT BELT RECOIL AND TENSIONER WORK FINE. WHEN I SHOWED THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE EVALUATOR THE HEIGHT ADJUSTER PROBLEM, HE COMMENTED ON A ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH (.250') GROOVE IN THE PLASTIC RETAINER HOUSING AND MENTIONED THAT HE NEVER SAW HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN. THE SERVICE EVALUATOR RAN HIS OWN CARFAX AND VERIFIED THAT THE RECORD WAS CLEAN. BUT HE COULD NOT APPROVE A FACTORY WARRANTY REPLACEMENT BECAUSE OF THE GROOVE IN THE PLASTIC HOUSING. I THINK IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE EDGE OF THE SEAT BELT TO WEAR INTO THE PLASTIC HOUSING DEPENDING ON THE SHOULDER HEIGHT OF THE PERSON WITH THE SEAT PULLED UP. A SECOND OPINION FROM THE SERVICE DIRECTOR, DID NOT AGREE WITH ME THAT THE GROOVE IN THE PLASTIC COULD HAVE BEEN MADE BY THE WAY THE DRIVERS WORE THE SEAT IF IT WAS NEVER ADJUSTED FROM IT'S LOWEST HEIGHT SETTING. HE SAID THAT IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE .250 GROOVE HE WOULD GLADLY FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT IF HE SENT IN THE PART FOR A CLAIM IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION THE MANUFACTURER WOULD REJECT IT. I'M A BIT SURPRISED AT THIS, AS I WOULD THINK TOYOTA INTERIOR DESIGN ENGINEERING OR THE SUB TIER VENDOR WOULD, AT THE LEAST, LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE FLEET PROBLEMS ARE AND MAKE THEIR OWN ENGINEERING ASSESSMENT ON THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. I CAN UNDERSTAND TOYOTA TRYING TO MINIMIZE WARRANTY RETURNS AND I AM DISAPPOINTED IN THE DECISION AND FEEL THAT THIS TYPE OF DAMAGE SHOULD BE REPORTED FOR DOCUMENTATION AND RELIABILITY PURPOSES. *TR

THERE WAS NO CLEAR DAMAGE TO THE BUILDING ITSELF. I DO NOT RECALL HAVING TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AT ANY TIME DURING THIS INCIDENT, EITHER WHILE DRIVING OR AFTER I CAME TO A STOP. I RECALL HAVING TO RESTART THE CAR TO LOWER THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WINDOW, BECAUSE THE DOOR ITSELF WAS BLOCKED BY ANOTHER PICNIC TABLE. I DO NOT RECALL ANYTHING ODD WITH THE IGNITION KEY WHEN I RESTARTED (LIKE IT WAS STILL IN THE ON POSITION). BASED ON THE UNRESPONSIVENESS OF BOTH BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE COLLISION, IT'S MY IMPRESSION THAT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A GLITCH IN THE CAR'S ELECTRICAL/CONTROL SYSTEM. I HAVE A 2009 CAMRY I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP QUITE A FEW TIMES DUE TO MY WHEEL PULLING AWAY FROM ME. I HAVE HAD IT ALIGN A FEW TIMES BUT THE KEEP SAYING THEY DON'T SEE A PROBLEM. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I ACTUALLY ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH MY WHEEL PULLING AWAY FROM NOW I AM GETTING REAL AFRAID OF DRIVING MY CAR.
