TOYOTA CAMRY 2009. A FEW TIMES, THE BRAKES WERE NOT RESPONSIVE. ACCELERATOR IS SOMETIMES SLOW TO COME TO IDLE POSITION, WHICH CAUSED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND TROUBLE BRAKING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE TRAVELING 45MPH DOWN A HIL, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY APPLYING EXTREME PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE. PRIOR TO THE RECENT FAILURE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE REPAIR FOR NHTSA RECALL# 10V017000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 8690.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V017000 (ACCELERATOR PEDAL). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR THE RECALL SERVICE REPAIR; HOWEVER, AFTER THE REMEDY REPAIR WAS PERFORMED THE ENGINE REVVED WITH A SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED WHICH ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON A SEPARATE OCCASION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED AS A RESULT OF THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE. THE VEHICLE ALSO ACCELERATED FOR A PERIOD OF 20-30 MINUTES IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED REGARDING THE RECALL REMEDY REPAIR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8,050. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,554.
I HAVE A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. JUST AFTER 20,000 MILES, TIRES ARE WORN-OUT. THE DEALER WHO SOLD ME THE NEW CAR ASKED ME TO CHANGE TIRES. I BOUGHT THIS CAR LESS THAN 2 YEARS (A BRAND NEW CAR AT THAT TIME). IF TIRES CAN LAST ONLY 20,000 MILES, THESE TIRES (ON CAMRY) MUST BE POOR QUALITY. I THINK TOYOTA MUST RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THIS COULD PUT DRIVER/PASSENGERS AT RISK. *TR
TOYOTA CAMRY 2009 WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, CAUSING MY CAR TO GET STUCK PERPENDICULAR IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. FOUR DAYS PREVIOUS TO THIS INCIDENT THE ACCELERATOR WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO THE RECALL. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE ACCELERATOR NO LONGER SHOWED ANY PROBLEMS AND THEY DENIED THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE CAR. *TR

HE STATED THAT AFTER HAVING THE RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED ON THE BRAKES, 3 DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE VEHICLE LOST POWER; HOWEVER, THE ENGINE WAS STILL ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DONATED TO A FACILITY. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 16,000.
2009 TOYOTA CAMRY GAS PEDAL RECALL NOT RIGHT, COMPUTER REPROGRAM NOT WORKING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY A NEWS SOURCE THAT THERE WERE RECALLS ON HER YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS AFFECTED BY THE RECALL AND REFERRED HER TO HER LOCAL DEALER FOR RECALL REPAIRS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIBIA PAD ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLED AN ACCELERATOR STOPPER PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V388000, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED IT WOULD RESPOND AS IF IT WAS LUNGING AND PULLING ITSELF FORWARD. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HER THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO AND NO ADDITIONAL REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,486 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,301.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MODIFICATION ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL PER THE RECALL WAS TOO SHORT. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER THE RECALL, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PLACE HIS FOOT UNDER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL; HOWEVER, HE IS CONCERNED SINCE THAT IS UNSAFE. THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
THIS IS 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. I WAS GETTING OUT OF PARKING GARAGE. AS SOON AS I PUT MY GEAR TO "D" AND PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL A LITTLE BIT, IT STARTED TO SPEED UP AND THE GAS PAD GOT STUCK. I DIDN'T HAVE MUCH ROOM TO STOP THE CAR AND THE CAR HIT THE PILLAR IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
MY TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID HAS THE EXACT SAME GOING OVER BUMPS AND POTHOLE PROBLEMS THAT IS BEING DESCRIBED FOR THE PRIUS, HOWEVER, I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET IT ADDRESSED. DURING BRAKING, IF THE CAR GOES OVER A NON-SMOOTH SURFACE IN THE ROAD, THE CAR SPEEDS UP UNTIL ALL FOUR WHEELS ARE ON SOLID GROUND AGAIN, USUALLY A SHORT DURATION. THIS IS SCARY AND DANGEROUS AND I AM LUCKY THAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS BEEN A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM THAT THE DEALER DIDN'T RECOGNIZE WHEN I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT. I AM ENTERING YESTERDAYS DATE IN THE INCIDENT DATE FIELD SINCE THIS HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN LAST EVENING.
PURCHASED 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY (WITH 11,000 MILES - DEMO , ON THE DRIVE HOME NOTICED IT WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT. BEING A NEW CAR, WE SCHEDULED TO HAVE IT FIXED, AND ON RIDE HOME, IT PULLED TO THE LEFT. AT TIMES DURING THE RIDE, IT SEEMED TO SWITCH PULLING BETWEEN THE RIGHT AND LEFT . THE CAR IS PRACTICALLY BRAND NEW (12,000 MILES)WITH NO DAMAGE FROM OWNERS. *TR
WHILE AT A STOP SIGN, I ACCELERATED MY CAR AND THEN QUICKLY STOPPED (PUSHED ON THE BRAKES) BECAUSE ANOTHER CAR WAS COMING, ONLY TO FEEL MY CAMRY ACCELERATE AND CRASHED INTO THE OTHER CAR. *TR
WHEN STARTING FROM A COMPLETE STOP AND BEGINNING ACCELERATION, AND SOMETIMES WHEN TRYING TO QUICKLY ACCELERATE WHILE MOVING FORWARD, THE CAR WILL HESITATE AND NOT ACCELRATE FOR ABOUT 1/2 TO ONE SECOND WHILE THE CAR IS SLOWING MOVING INTO TRAFFIC. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE PARTICULARLY WHEN TURNING AND CROSSING TRAFFIC AND WHEN MERGING WITH TRAFFIC ON A FREEWAY. THIS IS A FREQUENT OCCURANCE, BUT DOES NOT SEEM TO FOLLOW ANY PARTICULAR PATTERN OTHER THAN IT OCCURS HERE AND THERE WHEN ACCELERATING. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS OF BUYING IT AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS FUNCTIONING FINE. I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THEY ARE MANY OTHERS THAT HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT ACCELERATION HESITATION ISSUES WITH THE TOYOTA CAMRY WHO ALSO TOOK THEIR CARS BACK TO THE DEALER AND RECEIVED THE SAME RESPONSE THAT I DID THAT "IT WAS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY". THOUGH I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK WITH THE CAR, I FEEL THAT MY ONLY RECOURSE, SINCE TOYOTA SAYS IT IS RUNNING FINE, IS TO ESSENTIALLY AVOID ALL SITUATIONS WHERE SUDDEN QUICK ACCELERATION IS REQUIRED. WIITH THE NUMBER OF REPORTS ON THE INTERNET MATCHING MY EXACT PROBLEM I FEEL THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO WITH AT LEAST 2009 TOYOTA CAMRYS. *TR
I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME "2010 TOYOTA PRIUS BRAKING ISSUE" ON MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE TOYOTA PRIUS BRAKING ISSUE IS DESCRIBED AS THE FOLLOWING: "MOMENTARY LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY WHILE TRAVELING OVER UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES, POTHOLES OR BUMPS." THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME IN MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY JUST A FEW HOURS AGO. AFTER ROLLING OVER A SERIES OF BUMPS AT ABOUT 45 MPH I TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKE IN MY 2009 CAMRY AND THE PEDAL WAS VERY SLOW TO RESPOND AND THE PHYSICAL BRAKE PEDAL ITSELF EXHIBITED GREAT RESISTANCE IN MY EFFORT TO PRESS IT DOWN INTO USE. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS ONLY AFTER HAVING TRAVELED OVER BUMPS OR POTHOLES, ETC. THE REASON I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT IS THAT I FEEL THAT THE "PRIUS BRAKING ISSUE" IS NOT LIMITED TO ONLY THE PRIUS MODEL THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED ON IN THE NEW OVER THE PAST 24 HOURS. *TR
AFTER REPEATED CALLS TO TOYOTA DEALER ABOUT ACCELERATION PROBLEMS WITH ONLY "WE'LL CALL YOU WHEN PARTS COME IN" VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CRASHED THROUGH A METAL GATE CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO GATE AND CAR. AUTO WAS TOLLED TO COLLISION CENTER FOR EVALUATION. AFTER CALLING TOYOTA I WAS TOLD TO GIVE PROBLEM TO INSURANCE CARRIER *TW
WHILE TRAVELING DOWN ROAD APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH, TRAFFIC UP AHEAD WAS BRAKING. AS I APPLIED MY BRAKES, THEY HUNG UP, FELT LIKE ANTI LOCK BRAKE TRYING TO ENGAGE, BUT DID NOT SLAM ON BRAKES. AS I APPLIED BRAKE PEDAL, CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE. I WAS ABLE TO TAP THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIME AND GET VEHICLE BACK UNDER CONTROL. IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED THIS ONE TIME. *TR
CNN IS GIVING BAD ADVICE ON TOYOTA GAS PEDAL PROBLEM I DISAGREE WITH THE ADVICE PROVIDED BY OMAR PANJSHIRI, A CERTIFIED TOYOTA TECHNICIAN AT THE CHANTILLY REPAIR CENTER IN CHANTILLY, VIRGINIA. ACCORDING TO THE REPORT, HE STATED THAT: "IF THE PEDAL IS STUCK IN A DEPRESSED POSITION, HERE IS WHAT THE DRIVER CAN DO: (I) SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION TO NEUTRAL; (II) TURN OFF THE IGNITION SWITCH; AND (III) APPLY THE BRAKES AND PULL OVER." MR. PANJSHIRI EXPLAINED THAT WITH THE ENGINE CUT OFF, "YOU WILL LOSE SOME POWER STEERING ASSIST, BUT YOU WILL STILL BE ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOPPING POSITION." THIS IS VERY BAD ADVICE. THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT BE SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL. IF THE PEDAL IS STUCK IN A DEPRESSED POSITION, THE DRIVER SHOULD TURN OFF THE IGNITION SWITCH AND APPLY THE BRAKES. THE DRIVER SHOULD NOT SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL. THE TRANSMISSION KEEPS THE ENGINE GOING, HELPING TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR, AND IT KEEPS THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WORKING. A FEW YEARS AGO THE GAS PEDAL RETURN SPRING BROKE ON MY CAR WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF THE IGNITION SWITCH AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. THIS RESPONSE SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN DRIVING CLASSES. *TR
I OWN A TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID, 2009. I AM ALSO EXPERIENCING THE SAME BRAKE FAILURE PROBLEMS THAT THE TOYOTA 2010 PRIUS IS BEING RECALLED FOR. I NOTICED THAT WHEN BRAKING ON DOWN SLOPED ROADS, SLIPPERY ROADS, OR BUMPY ROADS, THE CAR SEEMS TO ACCELERATE WHILE BRAKING. THIS OCCURS FOR 1-2 SECONDS. IT IS A VERY SCARY FEELING. LAST WEEK I NARROWLY AVOIDED HITTING 2 CARS DURING A MINOR SNOW FALL BECAUSE WHILE MAKING A SLOW TURN OR BRAKING THE CAR AGAIN ACCELERATED AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED MOMENTARILY. I VERBALLY ASKED THE DEALER THAT I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM, AND MY NEIGHBORHOOD DEALER 2 WEEKS AGO WHILE MAKING A SCHEDULED 15K MILE SERVICE VISIT ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY WEREN'T AWARE OF IT AND SUGGESTED THAT IT COULD BE THE HYBRID SYSTEM KICKING IN. A FEW DAYS LATER I HEARD OF THE PRIUS RECALL AND WAS SHOCKED WHEN I READ THE REASONS BEHIND IT. I AM NOW SCHEDULED FOR A SERVICE VISIT TOMORROW AT TOYOTA. AT MY LAST SERVICE VISIT THEY SAID THE BRAKES WERE IN GOOD CONDITION, BUT I THINK THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE CAMRY HYBRIDS AS WELL. THIS PROBLEMS IS REPRODUCIBLE AND OCCURS EVERY TIME THAT I AM ON A BUMPY ROAD AND BRAKE OR ON A SLIPPERY SURFACE AND BRAKE. *TW
THIS CONCERNS THE CURRENT TOYOTA SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM AND MY INTERPRETATION OF THE MECHANISM THAT MAY BE AT WORK CAUSING THESE INTERMITTENT EVENTS. THESE CARS INVOLVED HAVE TOYOTA'S NEW "FLY-BY-WIRE" IGNITION AND THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM, NOT THE OLD MANUAL THROTTLE CONTROLS. THE ACCELERATION EVENTS MAY BE COMING FROM STRAY RF OR ELECTRO-STATIC DISCHARGE (ESD) CAUSING AN ELECTRICAL STATE CHANGE IN ONE OF THE THROTTLE CONTROL CHIP REGISTERS WHICH THEN CAUSES THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE PROBLEM COULD ALSO BE CAUSED BY THE SAME RF OR ESD, BUT ONLY AFFECT ELECTRICAL CONTROL UNITS IN CARS THAT HAVE DEVELOPED BAD GROUND PATHS (WHICH ALLOW STATIC CHARGE TO BUILD UP UNTIL IT ARCS OVER AND ZAPS A CHIP) TESTING FOR THIS TYPE FOR ELECTRICAL FAULT MUST BE DONE UNDER CONDITIONS THAT ACCELERATE THE FAILURE MODE, IE UNDER CONDITIONS THAT ENHANCE ESD OCCURRENCE AND/OR STRAY RF WHILE CHANGING THE RESISTANCE OF THE GROUND PATHS TO THE THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE. AS A REFERENCE POINT, REQUEST TOYOTA'S HISTORY ON ALL WARRANTY REPLACED FAILED ELECTRICAL MODULES INVOLVED IN/WITH THROTTLE CONTROL FOR THESE RECALLED CARS. A HARD ESD EVENT MAY CAUSE COMPLETE MODULE FAILURE AND HENCE A WARRANTY RECORD. A "SOFT" ESD EVENT MAY CAUSE STATE CHANGES ON THE MODULE CHIPS. A COMPARATIVELY HIGH MODULE REPLACEMENT RATE WOULD BE CAUSE TO INVESTIGATE THEM AND DO FEMA STRIPBACK ANALYSIS ON FAILED WARRANTY UNITS. *TR
MY 2009 CAMRY ACCELERATES SUDDENLY ON CITY STREETS. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL SUDDEN ACCELERATIONS ON TURNS. MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED DURING A RIGHT TURN AND I NEARLY JUMPED THE CURB (TWICE) TAKE OFF IS NOT SMOOTH SINCE IT TEMPORARILY STALLS AND THEN SUDDENLY JERKS OUT AT A HIGHER SPEED. THE BRAKE PETAL, STEERING WHEEL AND CAR FLOOR ALL VIBRATE AND THE ENGINE MAKES CLUNKING NOISES. MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 5,000 MILES ON IT. THE PETALS SHIFT AND MAKE CLUNKING NOISES LIKE WOODEN CLOGS. THIS PAST MONTH, THE PASSENGER CABIN SMELLS WITH GAS FUMES AS THE CAR OPERATES. AFTER THE RECALL, I DISCOVERED THAT I WAS LIED TO BY THE DEALER AND MY CAR WAS NOT MADE IN JAPAN AS I WAS TOLD AT THE TIME OF SALE. *TR
WE LEASED A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY FROM PERFORMANCE TOYOTA ON JUNE 22 2008 ON ONE OCCASION WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS PULLING INTO KROGERS IN W CHESTER THE CAR ACCELERATED WHEN HE HAD HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE NEXT DAY WE TOOK THE CAR TO PERFORMANCE TOYOTA AND THEY GAVE US A RENTAL. THE NEXT DAY THEY CALLED AND SAID THE CAR WAS FIXED. I DID NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE AND TOLD THEM SO BUT THEY REASSURED MY HUSBAND AND I THAT THE CAR WAS SAFE. THIS WAS ON 2-3-10. ON 2-9-10 THE CAR ACCELERATED AGAIN AT THE FAIRFIELD MERCY HOSP. AND ABOUT 15 MIN LATER AT A STOP SIGN IN OUR SUBDIVISION. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE CAR BACK AND TOLD THEM TO KEEP IT BUT THEY SAID IT WAS A LEASE AND I COULD NOT LET IT THERE SO I PURCHASED A 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY WHICH ALSO WAS A DISASTER. *TR
ON 2/01/10 AT APPROXIMATELY 8:00 AM I WAS DRIVING MY TOYOTA ON THE WASHINGTON DC BELTWAY 495 NORTH FROM VIRGINIA. I WAS NEARING 270 NORTH AND DECIDED I HAD BETTER CHANGE LANES TO STAY ON MY INTENDED ROUTE ON 495. LOOKING IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR I SAW A TRACTOR-TRAILER WAS IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE NEXT TO ME AND I NEEDED SOME RAPID ACCELERATION TO GET AHEAD OF THE TRUCK SO I STAMPED ON THE ACCELERATOR. I STAMPED MUCH HARDER THAN I NORMALLY WOULD DO. IMMEDIATELY MY ACCELERATOR STUCK TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR ACCELERATED FROM APPROXIMATELY 65 TO OVER 85 MILES AN HOUR. I HAD SEEN A TV REPORT ON THE NBC STATION IN DC THAT ADVISED IF YOUR TOYOTA ACCELERATOR STICKS APPLY BOTH FEET TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HOLD IT. I FORGOT THE HOLD IT PART AND I STARTED TO PUMP THE BRAKE, WHICH HAD NO EFFECT. I ALSO REMEMBERED THAT THE NEXT THING TO TRY WAS PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. THIS I DID AND THE ACCELERATION STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. I WAS ABLE TO COAST THE CAR OFF INTO AN AREA, A TRIANGLE BETWEEN THE RIGHT LANE OF THE BELTWAY AND AN ONCOMING LANE. I THEN TURNED OFF THE CAR AND PHYSICALLY REACHED DOWN AND PULLED THE ACCELERATOR BACK UP. IT "POPPED" UP LIKE A SPRING. I THEN RESTARTED THE CAR AND CONTINUED TO WORK. I REMEMBERED THAT ON LONG TRIP RECENTLY TO ATLANTA THAT ONE OTHER TIME IT FELT LIKE THE ACCELERATOR STUCK, BUT THAT TIME IT WAS MOMENTARY A FEW SECONDS. ON 2/21/10 THE ACCELERATOR STAYED DOWN I AM GUESSING A GOOD 20-30 SECONDS BEFORE I REMEMBERED TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. WHEN I GOT TO WORK I CALLED TOYOTA USA TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL AND THAT I SHOULD CALL A DEALER.
