TOYOTA CAMRY 2009 - WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FROM 65MPH TO 90MPH WITHOUT EVEN TOUCHING THE GAS PEDDLE. IT WAS FULL THROTTLE. WHEN TRYING TO STOP IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT FOR THE BRAKES TO DEPRESS. HAD TO PUSH DOWN ON BRAKES VERY HARD TO GET IT TO SLOW DOWN. THE NEXT DAY DRIVING ON A LOCAL STREET I PULLED OUT OF MY STREET AND STARTED TO ACCELERATE AND THE IT JUST ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL, GOING FROM 30MPH TO 50MPH. TRIED THE BRAKES AND THEY FELT LIKE THEY WEREN'T WORKING UNTIL YOU HAD TO STEP ON THEM ALL THE WAY. THAT WAS TWO DAYS IN A ROW THAT THIS HAPPEN. TOOK INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR OR DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND HAVE FOUND THAT THERE IS A LOT OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS VERY SAME PROBLEM. SOMETHING NEEDS TO GET DONE OR THERE WILL BE A LOT OF ACCIDENTS. *TR
VEHICLE (2009 CAMRY XLE) DOES NOT DE-ACCELERATE IMMEDIATELY WHEN TAKING YOUR FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR NO MATTER WHAT THE SPEED. THIS OCCURRENCE WAS FIRST NOTICED IN THE FALL THE SUMMER OF 2009. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (BALISE TOYOTA W. SPFLD, MA) ON JAN. 5 2010. THE PROBLEM WAS POINTED OUT TO THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND THAT THE SITUATION WAS NORMAL. ON FEB. 22, 2010 I AGAIN BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECALL FOR MODIFICATION OF DRIVER SIDE FLOOR CARPET, FUEL PEDAL MODIFICATION AND INSTALLATION OF A PART DESCRIBED AS SSC. AFTER TAKING RECEIPT OF THE VEHICLE ON FEB. 22, 2010 THE ACCELERATOR STILL DOES NOT RESPOND IMMEDIATELY TO DE-ACCELERATE. *TR
MOTOR OIL LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON INDICATING THAT MY OIL IS LOW OR OUT. I HAVE DRIVEN MY CAR WITH ABSOLUTELY NO MOTOR OIL IN IT, BECAUSE THE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON LETTING ME KNOW THAT I WAS OUT OF MOTOR OIL. THIS HAS HAPPENED EVER SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2009.
Bob Tyler Toyota sold me a 2009 Toyota Camry when they knew that the 2009 Camrys had an oil consumption problem. I learned of a class action lawsuit that was filed against Toyota regarding this problem. Toyota announced a program to extend warranty coverage to address customer complaints of Excessive Engine Oil Consumption on certain 2007-2009 Camrys. Toyota was supposed to replace parts on the affected Toyota Camrys for vehicles exhibiting excessive engine oil consumption. Eligibility for part replacement under this warranty enhancement Program is dependent on a Toyota dealer engine oil consumption test in accordance with T-SB-0158-14(Toyota) and S-SB-0031-14(Scion). I took my Toyota Camry to Bob Tyler for routine maintenance/oil changes and other maintenance. I noticed that my Toyota was burning a quart of oil every few hundred miles. I took my Camry to Bob Tyler Toyota and they did the oil consumption test and stated that my car narrowly passed so it did not qualify to be fixed. Since my Camry has gotten worse. My Camry only has 108,000 miles on it which is less than the cutoff mileage that Toyota has set for oil consumption problems. I took my Toyota back to Bob Tyler this year and was advised that my Camry is over the age limit for the Oil Consumption problem. I met with Bob Tyler and advised him of the problem that I was having with my 2009 Toyota Camry. I advised that my Camry has been burning oil and that the maintenance department never brought it to my attention before the age of my Camry exceeded the warranty cutoff. Bob Tyler said it was not his problem. Bob Tyler Toyota never made it clear when the cutoff age/mileage for a car to be covered started and ended. Bob Tyler now refuses to do repairs on my Camry and it is getting worse. Bob Tyler knows that this oil problem is hazardous to the driver and passengers. I would like to have my Camry repaired or receive refund in amount of repair cost so I can have it repaired at a different Toyota Dealership.
2009 TOYOTA CAMRY ACCELERATION PROBLEM HAPPENED AFTER RECALL FIXES. WAS PULLING INTO PARKING SPACE SLOWLY WHEN ACC. PEDAL DROPPED AND ENGINE ZOOMED. I WAS ABLE TO STOMP HARD ON BRAKES AND NOT HIT THE BUILDING SINCE HYBRID GAS PART OF ENGINE DISENGAGES WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS USED. *TR
2009 TOYOTA CAMRY, AC SMELL LIKE A ROTTEN EGG. ONLINE SEARCH SHOWS THAT MANY CAR OWNERS HAVE THIS ISSUE. THIS SMELL IS SO INTENSE THAT CAR CAN NOT BE DRIVEN W/O WINDOWS OPEN. IT GIVES HEAD-ACHE AND HARD TO BEAR WITH IT. THIS ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS A MAJOR ISSUE REQUIRING RECALL SINCE WE MAY END-UP SPENDING MORE MONEY ON HEALTH ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH IT. IMPACT OF THIS ON ECONOMY DUE TO LOSS OF WORKING DAY AND PRODUCTIVITY CAN NOT IGNORED. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY LE IN SEPTEMBER 2008. I WAS STILL DRIVING MY OLD CAR UNTIL I SOLD IT IN MARCH 2009. WHEN I STARTED DRIVING THE NEW CAR MORE, I NOTICED THAT OCCASIONALLY THE CAR WOULD HESITATE AND IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS WHEN I LET GO OF THE ACCELERATOR AND STEP ON IT AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS MAYBE SEVERAL TIMES A MONTH. SINCE I GOT STUCK IN THE INTERSECTION FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS, THAT REALLY SCARED ME. PEOPLE WERE WAITING FOR ME TO CROSS THE INTERSECTION, BUT MY CAR WOULDN'T GO. I CAN SEE SOMEONE REAR-ENDING MY CAR IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THE CAR ALSO GETS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WHEN I SLOW DOWN AND THEN STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR. I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT MANY, MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. USE THE WORDS "2009 CAMRY" AND "TRANSMISSION PROBLEM" IF YOU WANT TO GOOGLE IT. PEOPLE COMPLAIN THAT THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS. I BELIEVE THAT IS WHAT MY CAR IS DOING. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM FIX THE PROBLEM YESTERDAY. THEY HAD MY CAR ALL DAY FOR THAT AND A 5,000-MILE SERVICE. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED WHEN I GOT MY CAR BACK AND THEY SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NORMAL. THEY TEST DROVE IT AND DIDN'T GET THAT PROBLEM. I AM REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS BECAUSE MY CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY AND I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THE DEALER SAID THAT IT IS NORMAL. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT! I THINK THAT IS A DANGEROUS CAR AND THE DEALER IS DENYING THAT THE CAR HAS THIS PROBLEM. I FEEL LIKE THEY DO NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY. THE CONSUMERS ARE BEING RIPPED OFF. I ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT MY VENT BUTTON RELEASING EVERY THREE MINUTES ON COLD, RAINY DAYS. THEY ALSO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. SO, I AM STILL STUCK WITH THAT PROBLEM AND NOTHING HAS BEEN FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND HAVE TOYOTA RECALL THE CARS WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. NEW CARS SHOULD NOT BE LIKE THAT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. SHE STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A CURB OVER AN EMBANKMENT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES AND A BROKEN ANKLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD REPORT IT TO TOYOTA. THE CONTACT HAS NOT DRIVEN THE VEHICLE SINCE THE CRASH OCCURRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 6975.
VERY SOFT BRAKES IN 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. BRAKES MUST BE PUMPED TO GET ANY REAL BRAKING ACTION. AT TIMES BRAKE PEDAL WILL CONTINUE TO GO DOWN WHEN BRAKES ARE PRESSED WITH NO ADDITIONAL BRAKING ACTION. TOYOTA CLAIMS BRAKES TO BE IN SPEC AND WORKING PROPERLY, THE BRAKES ARE FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE I GOT THE CAR, NEW. AND, HAVE FELT VERY UNSAFE, AS I NEVER KNEW WHEN THE BRAKES WOULD EFFECTIVELY SLOW THE VEHICLE. EVEN WHEN PUSHING HARD, AS IN A PANIC STOP, MY LEGS ARE ONLY SO LONG. TOYOTA CHANGED A VALVE TWICE, BUT ARE NOW SAYING THAT THIS WAS NOT NECESSARY, THE BRAKES ARE FINE. I HAVE TRIED TO REPLICATE A BRAKE TEST DONE BY THE TOYOTA TECH SERVICE REP, BUT CANNOT. THE TEST WAS TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND REV THE CAR UP TO RED LINE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHEN THE CONTACT DRIVES THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH HE NOTICED THAT IT BEGAN TO HESITATE AND SUDDENLY ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. ALSO, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN FROM A COLD START OR IN THE MORNING THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WILL MOMENTARILY CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE AFTER HE HAD TAKEN HIS FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL.THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8000, THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 9000.
COMPLAINT: ELECTRONIC DEFECT IN TOYOTA CAMRY 2009 WHEN THE GARMIN GPS SYSTEM IS CONNECTED TO THE CAR VIA THE GAS-LIGHTER PLUG IN, THE REMOTE KEY CONTROL THAT LOCKS AND UNLOCKS THE DOOR DOES NOT WORK. WHEN I UNPLUG THE GARMIN, THE REMOTE KEY FOB WORKS FINE. I DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH MY 2002 SIENNA. I NOTICED THE PROBLEM WITHIN THE LAST 6-8 MONTHS. HE WAS UNABLE TO SEE A GROUP OF PEOPLE STANDING IN THE ROAD, BUT MANAGED TO AVOID A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY WHICH WAS PURCHASED IN FEBRUARY 2009. HE STATED THAT A PIECE OF METAL WAS HANGING FROM UNDER THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT FRAME, NEAR THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WHEEL. HE ALSO STATED THAT UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE BEGAN IDLING UNCONTROLLABLY AND WITHIN MINUTES IT WOULD SETTLE DOWN AND REPEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE PIECE OF METAL THAT WAS HANGING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED; YET, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE AGAIN, COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO FILE A LEMON LAW COMPLAINT SINCE THE FAILURE COULD NOT DUPLICATED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 900 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4400.
VIBRATION AND SURGING FROM BRAKES DURING HARD STOPPING. *TR
I HAVE HAD A 2009 CAMRY HYBRID SINCE JULY 2009 AND HAVE NOTICED- WHAT I WOULD REFER TO AS "POWER SURGES WHILE BRAKING (SOMETIMES ALMOST LURCHING FORWARD UNCONTROLLABLY - I ALMOST REAR ENDED CARS IN FRONT OF ME IN TRAFFIC A FEW TIMES - ESPECIALLY ON BUMPY ROADS" I THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO THE CAPTURING OF TOO MUCH ENERGY FROM THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM SO THAT IT CHARGES THE BATTERY WHILE BRAKING. ONLY ONCE I HEARD PEOPLE ON THE RADIO DESCRIBING THE PRIUS BRAKING PROBLEM DID I REALIZE IT SOUNDS EXACTLY THE SAME! WHY HAVEN'T WE HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT THIS FOR THE CAMRY HYBRIDS? I NEVER OWNED A HYBRID PREVIOUSLY AND ALTHOUGH I AM UNHAPPY WITH THE BRAKING, I THOUGHT IT WAS NORMAL FOR A HYBRID AND I JUST NEEDED TO GET USED TO IT. THEN ON 06/25/09 , A/C WAS NOT WORKING AGAIN. TAKE CAR TO DEALER ON 06/26/09; TECHNICIAN SAID A/C SYSTEM LEAKED NEED TO ORDER PART. AND THE CAR NEED TO BACK TO DEALER ON 06/28/09 TO FIX. IF YOU BUY A NEW CAR WITH $28000.00 AND IT'S NOT FOR 1 MONTH YET YOU HAVE TO BACK TO DEALER TO FIX THE SAME PROBLEM TWICE LIKE THAT. WILL YOU BE HAPPY CUSTOMER? TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE TO APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. THE DRIVER TURNED OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL AND USED THE BRAKES TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. SHE ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES SINCE IT OCCURRED IN JUNE 2009. SHE DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER OR CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 11,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 4,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH UP A SLIGHT SLOPE THE ACCELERATOR BECAME STUCK, AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT FUNCTION. SHE THEN COASTED INTO A NEARBY GAS STATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, BUT HE COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 18000.
I PURCHASED A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID IN MAY, 2009. FOR THE FIRST FEW MONTHS I GOT GREAT GAS MILEAGE (AROUND BETWEEN 35-45 MILES TO THE GALLON) BOTH IN THE CITY AS WELL AS ON THE HIGHWAY. IN THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS, THE ELECTRIC COMPONENT TO MY ENGINE HAS NOT BEEN WORKING LIKE IT HAS BEFORE AND MY GAS MILEAGE IN THE CITY IS NEARLY HALF (ABOUT 21-23 MILES TO THE GALLON). AT FIRST, I CHALKED IT UP TO A BAD TANK OF GAS, BUT MONTHS AND SEVERAL TANKS OF GAS LATER, THE PROBLEM STILL ENDURES. THE CAR SHOULD BE HARNESSING ELECTRIC ENERGY WHEN BREAKING AND AT STOPLIGHTS. INSTEAD, IT IS USING AN ABSURD AMOUNT OF GAS. ADDITIONALLY, THE ELECTRIC ENGINE WILL SUDDENLY KICK IN WHEN BREAKING SUDDENLY GIVING THE CAR A BOOST OF ACCELERATION WHILE I AM TRYING TO STOP THE CAR. THE WHOLE REASON I PURCHASED A HYBRID CAR WAS TO REAP THE BENEFITS OF GREAT GAS MILEAGE, BUT NOW I AM GETTING FAR LESS THAN THE REGULAR CAMRY MODEL. I ALSO FEEL THAT THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION IS A SAFETY HAZARD. GIVEN THE SERIES OF RECALLS TOYOTA HAS CURRENTLY HAD, HAVE YOU RECEIVED ANY OTHER COMPLAINS FROM CAMRY HYBRID DRIVERS? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHENEVER THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE AT ANY SPEEDS INCLUDING 20 MPH, HE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SLIGHTLY PULL TO THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT HAD ALL FOUR TIRES REPLACED WHICH INCLUDED A STEERING ALIGNMENT; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE HAS CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 25000.
I HAVE A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. I PURCHASED IT IN 2008. IT STARTED SHAKING/VIBRATING EVERY TIME YOU COME TO A STOP LIGHT ONE YEAR AFTER I PURCHASED IT. I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER TWICE (ONCE TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AND AGAIN BECAUSE THE VIBRATION WAS SO BAD) AND THEY PROCEEDED TO TELL ME IT IS BECAUSE THE AIR FILTER AND FUEL LINE FILTER NEEDED TO BE CHANGED & CLEANED OUT. IT WOULD COST ME ALMOST $500. THE CAR WAS ONLY A YEAR OLD. I WAS WONDERING IF THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT THEY NOTICED WITH THE CURRENT COROLLA RECALL? WE HAD THE 2 AIR FILTERS CHANGED & IT STILL CONTINUES TO SHAKE. SOME TIMES SO VIOLENTLY THAT YOU CAN SEE YOUR HAND ON THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATING AND THE REAR VIEW MIRROR IS BLURRED. *TR

SAFETY HAZARD!. 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY (LIKELY ALL HYBRID AUTOMOBILES) WILL CONTINUOUSLY RESTART THE GAS ENGINE TO RECHARGE THE BATTERY IF THE IGNITION SYSTEM IS NOT TURNED OFF WHEN DEPARTING THE VEHICLE. THIS CAR IS USUALLY KEPT IN AN ATTACHED GARAGE. THE OWNER FORGOT TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION UPON LEAVING THE CAR. THIS IS LIKELY A COMMON EVENT. THIS WILL EVENTUALLY RESULT IN SERIOUSLY INJURY OR DEATH, AND MAY HAVE ALREADY HAPPENED AND NOT BEEN PROPERLY IDENTIFIED AND REPORTED. I HAD REPORTED THIS SAFETY HAZARD TO THE NTSB IN MID-2009 WITH NO SUBSEQUENT NTSB ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OR FOLLOW-UP. *TR
THE CAR IS DIFFICULT TO STEER IN A STRAIGHT LINE AT HIGHER SPEEDS (ABOVE 50MPH). THE STEERING KEEPS PULLING TO THE LEFT EVEN WHEN THE ROAD IS BANKED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THIS HAS BEEN PRESENT SINCE NEW AND CURRENTLY CAR HAS 7000 MILES. THIS WAS POINTED OUT IN THE1000 MILE SERVICE AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS DONE BY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO RECTIFY THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM DOES NOT SEEM TO BE RELATED TO WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND IS PRESENT EVEN AFTER THE ALIGNMENT WORK. AT 70MPH, THE CAR IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP IN A STRAIGHT LINE USING BOTH HANDS ON THE STEERING, AND A CONSTANT CORRECTIVE EFFORT IS REQUIRED. THIS MAKES THE CAR GO IN A SLIGHT ZIG ZAG WITHIN THE LANE AND DOES NOT INSPIRE CONFIDENCE, AND NEEDLESS TO SAY SCARES OTHER TRAVELERS DRIVING IN THEIR OWN LANES. ANOTHER ISSUE IS VERY INCONSISTENT BRAKING. THIS IS A CAMRY HYBRID AND THE POINT OF SHIFT BETWEEN REGENERATIVE BRAKING AND FRICTION BRAKING IS VERY INCONSISTENT. THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING FEELS AND TO BE SLOW DOWN THE CAR AT A SLOWER PACE UNTIL FRICTION BRAKING COMES UP AND IMMEDIATELY SLOWS THE CAR DOWN. THE NET RESULT IS CAR DOES NOT SLOW DOWN AS IT SHOULD INITIALLY BUT THEN DOING SO VERY QUICKLY. THIS IS VERY EVIDENT IS SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC. PLUS, MY CAR SEEMS TO HAVE A LIGHT SCREECHING NOISE COMING FROM RIGHT BRAKE (NOT THE USUAL BRAKE NOISE). THIS HAPPENS ONLY WHEN CAR IS COLD, AND WHEN NOT BRAKING. WHEN BRAKING IT GOES AWAY. IT HAS BEEN PRESENT SINCE NEW AND TOYOTA HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE OR CORRECT IT. *TR
WHILE MERGING ONTO I-5 I PUSHED THE RESUME SPEED SELECTION ON SPEED CONTROL. THE CAR SPED UP AND EXCEEDED THE PRESET SPEED OF 59 MPH AND REACHED 80 MPH. NEITHER APPLYING THE BRAKES OR PUSHING THE SPEED CONTROLS ON/OFF SWITCH TURNED THE SPEED CONTROL OFF. I TURNED THE KEY OFF AND ON TO CONTROL THE STEERING AND USED THE PARKING BRAKE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER. THIS WAS A VERY FREIGHTING EXPERIENCE SO I JUST SAT THERE FOR A WHILE. I STARTED THE CAR AND THE ENGINE A COUPLE TIMES AND RPMS WENT TO THE RED LINE. THE FLOOR MAT WAS LAYING FLAT AND HOOKED. I LOOKED UNDER HOOD AND NOTHING LOOKED UNUSUAL. I STARTED THE ENGINE AGAIN AND IT RAN NORMALLY. I PHONED THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPT, AND THEY SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE FLOOR MATS AND A RECALL NOTICE WAS IN THE WORKS. WE HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR ABOUT 5000 MILES SINCE INCIDENT, BUT WE DON'T USE THE SPEED CONTROL. I AM SCHEDULED TO HAVE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL REPLACED THIS WEEK. *TR
I HAVE A 2009 CAMRY. I KNOW ABOUT THE RECALL FOR THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM. THIS IS A SIMILAR PROBLEM THAT IS DIFFERENT, BUT ACTUALLY COULD BE RELATED PERHAPS. IF I SET MY CRUISE CONTROL FOR EXAMPLE AT 65 (OR ANY SPEED) AND I BRAKE THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATES. IF I SLOW TO LETS SAY 35 TO GO THROUGH TOWN, AND THEN HIT RESUME, THE CAR ACCELERATES VERY FAST UNTIL IT GETS TO 65 AGAIN. THIS ACCELERATION IS SO FAST THAT YOU OFTEN NEED TO RE-BRAKE TO RE ESTABLISH CONTROL OF THE CAR. THIS HAS BEEN A CONSTANT PROBLEM WITH THE 2009 CAMRY. I HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE DODGE THAT GRADUALLY GAINS SPEED WHEN I HIT RESUME AND HAVE HAD A 96 CAMRY WITH CRUISE THAT HAD A GRADUAL RETURN TO THE PRESET SPEED. THE CRUISE CONTROL ON THE CAMRY IS DANGEROUS AND FAR FASTER THAN I WOULD EVER ACCELERATE FROM 35 TO 65 ON MY OWN. *TR
MY BOYFRIEND AND I WERE ON I-94 IN MICHIGAN WHEN MY PARENTS' 2009 CAMRY ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL. A SEMI TRUCK WAS MERGING ONTO THE EXPRESSWAY, SO MY BOYFRIEND HIT THE ACCELERATOR TO GIVE THE TRUCK ENOUGH ROOM. WE WERE USING CRUISE CONTROL AT THE TIME GOING ABOUT 70 MPH, BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AT A SPEED IN EXCESS 90 MPH AFTER THE BREAK WAS APPLIED ONCE WE GOT AROUND THE TRUCK. THE ENGINE WAS REVVING VERY LOUDLY AT THIS POINT. THE BREAK DID NOT OVERRIDE THE CAR'S ACCELERATION OR CRUISE CONTROL EVEN WHEN MY BOYFRIEND STOOD WITH ALL OF HIS WEIGHT ON THE BREAK. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED ACCELERATING. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER, ASSUMING THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE DEALER TRIED TO RECREATE THE LOSS OF ACCELERATION CONTROL I EXPERIENCED, BUT SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO DO SO. THE DEALER MECHANICS INSPECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL WIRING SYSTEM, BUT CLAIMED THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THIS EVENT HAPPENED IN MAY 2009, WELL BEFORE THE RECENT INCREASE IN PRESS COVERAGE RELATING TO SIMILAR INCIDENTS. *TR
WITH THE MEDIA COVERAGE OF TOYOTA PROBLEMS, I SAW A WOMAN INTERVIEWED WHO COMPLAINED OF "SUDDEN ACCELERATION" WITH HER TOYOTA WHILE BRAKING. I RECOGNIZED THAT IT IS SOMETHING I HAVE EXPERIENCED FREQUENTLY WITH OUR 2009 CAMRY XLE V6 W. 6 SPEED AUTO TRANS. IT IS NOT A "SUDDEN ACCELERATION" PROBLEM, BUT A SUDDEN FREE-WHEELING PROBLEM, MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN DRIVING ON LEVEL OR DOWNHILL ROADS. AS YOU BRAKE TO COME TO A STOP, THE AUTO TRANS. DOWNSHIFTS INTO A LOWER GEAR, BUT IT DOESN'T DO IT FAST ENOUGH, SO IT MOMENTARILY GOES THROUGH NEUTRAL CREATING A MOMENTARY FREE-WHEELING SITUATION THAT DOES ACCELERATE THE CAR JUST AS YOU ARE WANTING TO COME TO A STOP. IT IS PARTICULARLY DISCONCERTING WHEN BRAKING INTO AN INTERSECTION WHILE GOING DOWN HILL. I CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE NUMBER ON 5/21/09 TO REPORT IT, HOPING THERE MIGHT HAVE BEEN A SOFTWARE UPGRADE. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT NORMAL AND CREATED CASE # 0905126552 AND TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO MY DEALER, WHICH I DID ON 06/01/09. THE DEALER RESET THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION COMPUTER, BUT THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I LATER REPORTED IT AGAIN TO TOYOTA ON A 07/22/09 CUSTOMER SURVEY. WE HAVE BEEN LIVING WITH IT, BUT ARE CAREFUL WHEN BRAKING INTO AN INTERSECTION. *TR

WHILE PASSING A TRUCK, STEP ON GAS TO GO INTO PASSING GEAR AND THE CAR WENT TO FULL THROTTLE. AFTER THE PASS AND LETTING OFF GAS THE CAR STAYED AT FULL THROTTLE. TURNED OFF KEY AND THEN RESTARTED AND CAR WAS STILL AT FULL THROTTLE. COASTED TO A STOP, W/O STEERING OR BRAKES, (NO ENGINE POWER). PUT CAR INTO PARK AND THEN RESTARTED. AT THAT TIME IT RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. CALLED DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING ON A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY(4 CYL). *TR
CAMRY ACCELERATES WHEN IT SHOULD BE DECELERATING. PERHAPS MORE OF A GEAR-HEAD THAN MOST WOMEN, I RECOGNIZED A SLIGHT ACCELERATION IN MY CAMRY AS I LET IT SLOW DOWN WHEN APPROACHING A STOP. HERE IN THE PRAIRIES OF ILLINOIS, A CAR WILL NORMALLY, DECELERATE GRADUALLY ONCE YOU'VE REMOVED YOUR FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL AND BEFORE APPLYING A BRAKE. HOWEVER, SHORTLY AFTER BUYING MY 2007 CAMRY WITH 22K MILES, I NOTICED IT WOULD SLIGHTLY ACCELERATE AS IT CHANGED FROM A HIGHER GEAR TO A LOWER GEAR. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO MY TOYOTA SERVICE DEPT AND THEY "REPROGRAMMED" THE COMPUTER. THIS DID SEEM TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, THOUGH IT HAD TO BE DONE TWICE, AND IT IS BEGINNING TO SHOW SIGNS AGAIN. OTHER PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS WAS THE OVERLY LONG SOUND OF A HIGHER RPM. IT SEEMS IT SHOULD CHANGE GEARS (IF IT WAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, I WOULD HAVE CHANGED GEARS) ONE HEARS THE RPM AND ENGINE DRONING AT A HIGH LEVEL FOR AN EXCESSIVE PERIOD OF TIME WITHOUT SHIFTING. I CAN JUST TELL BY HEARING THAT THERE IS AN UNNATURAL PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATION. I DEFINE NATURAL AS THE FORMER EXPERIENCE OF KNOWING THAT THE GAS PEDAL CONTROLS THE MECHANICAL NATURE OF THE CARBURETOR. IT JUST SEEMS THAT NOW THERE IS SOMETHING THAT SUPERSEDES OR OVERRIDES THAT NATURAL CONNECTION BETWEEN HUMAN CONTROL AND CARBURETOR. ONE CAN TELL THAT THE SYSTEM HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN, AND THAT SYSTEM IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO ERROR OR ENVIRONMENT (TEMPERATURE OR HUMIDITY) OR DRIVING CONDITIONS. I WROTE TOYOTA A NOTE AT LEAST A MONTH AGO THAT I DOUBTED THAT THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM WAS B/C OF PEDAL STICKING AND SHARED MY STORY. ODDLY, MY CAR DOES NOT NEED THE PEDAL REPAIRED EVEN THOUGH IT IS IN THE SAME YEAR AND PLANT WHERE THE PROBLEM EXISTED. HOWEVER, MY CAR STILL HAS SOMETHING ODDLY WRONG WITH IT. I WAS INVOLVED IN A WRECK WHERE I WAS TRAVELING ROUGHLY 5 MILES PER HOUR. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. IT WAS A FRONT SIDE IMPACT AND MY CAR WAS TOTALED. BENT THE FRAME, CRUNCHED THE FRONT PART OF THE BODY (HOOD AND SIDE WALLS), BLEW THE TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR, AC SYSTEM, AND MUCH MORE. I STILL HAVE PICTURES OF THE ACCIDENT OF MY VEHICLE. I WAS IN A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. I WAS IN A 35 MILES ZONE, GOING UPHILL AND WELL WITHIN THE LIMIT, BUT WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE CAR DIDN'T REALLY SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO NOT CRASH INTO THE VEHICLE THAT DIDN'T YIELD AT THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL. THANKFULLY NO ONE SUSTAINED ANY SIGNIFICANT INJURIES SINCE THE AIRBAGS GOT DEPLOYED IN THE CAMRY. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO DATE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,864 AND THE CURRENT WAS 20,135.

I OWN A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID PURCHASED NEW 4/3/2008. AT THE END OF MARCH, 2009, I HAD THE FIRST OF FOUR (THUS FAR) ACCELERATOR RUNAWAY EVENTS. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BY APPLYING EXTREMELY HARD BRAKE PRESSURE WITH BOTH FEET, TAKING SEVERAL SECONDS TO STOP THE CAR AS IT FISH-TAILED WILDLY ON THE ROAD. I REMOVED THE FLOOR MAT. APPROXIMATELY 6 WEEKS LATER, THE ACCELERATOR RUNAWAY EVENT HAPPENED TWICE MORE. THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOT IN THE CAR. I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA, BEEN TREATED LIKE I WAS DELUSIONAL AND THEN AS THE PUBLIC OUTCRY/PRESS RELEASES BEGAN LATER IN 2009, CONTACTED TOYOTA AGAIN. I FINALLY GOT MY SCHEDULED RECALL (AT MY PERSISTANCE--THE DEALERSHIPS NEVER CALLED ME TO SCHEDULE THIS) THEN AFTER I REQUESTED DETAILS OF THE PLANNED RECALL CHANGES, I FOUND OUT AFTER MY APPOINTMENT THEY SAID MY VEHICLE QUALIFIED ONLY FOR THEM TO CUT DOWN MY GAS PEDAL. NO SHIM ASSEMBLY TO THE GAS PEDAL AND NO SOFTWARE UPDATE AS I WAS TOLD "YOU ALREADY HAVE THE MOST CURRENT SOFTWARE". REALLY?! MY NOW MUTILATED GAS PEDAL ALLOWS MY FOOT TO CONSTANTLY SLIP OFF OF IT WHILE DRIVING AS IT IS SO SMALL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FLOOR MATS WERE THE CAUSE OF THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, HOWEVER THE FAILURE PERSISTED AFTER THE FLOOR MATS WERE REMOVED.
