TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 20 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER TEN MINUTES AND IT WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FACILITY FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC WAS ONLY ABLE TO DIAGNOSE A FAILURE CONNECTED TO THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ECM CIRCUIT BOARD WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A CLAIM WAS FILE. NO OTHER ASSISTANCE OFFERED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
IN SUMMER, COROLLA EXPERIENCE HARSH SHIFTING AND INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. ECM REPLACED IN JULY - APPROX ONE MONTH BEFORE RECALL OCCURRED. AT THE TIME OF CORRECTION, CAR WAS AT NEARLY 91,000 MILES - RESEARCH ECM ISSUES ONLINE, CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY STATED SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THEY HAD NO OBLIGATION TO COVER ECM REPAIR. RECALL RELEASED WITHIN ONE MONTH OF ECM REPAIR. LESS THAN 60 DAYS LATER, TOOK COROLLA BACK TO DEALERSHIP. CAR STILL EXPERIENCE HARSH SHIFTING. AFTER PAYING $225 FOR A TRANSMISSION FLUSH, AND DEALER SHIFTING TRANSMISSION MANUALLY, THE DEALER STATED ECM WORKS FINE, TRANSMISSION WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AT +$3K. RESEARCHED AND IDENTIFIED SIMILAR PROBLEM IN TOYOTA RAV4 - ECM FAILURE LED TO TRANSMISSION FAILURE. FILING COMPLAINT BECAUSE I THINK TOYOTA NEEDS TO PAY FOR MY NEW TRANSMISSION. AT CURRENT TIME, TRANSMISSION NOT FIXED..WANT AN EXPLANATION, IF THE COMPONENT THAT TELLS THE TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT ACCURATELY ISN'T WORKING, THEN WHY DOESN'T TOYOTA RECOGNIZE THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS THE POTENTIAL TO NOT WORK PROPERLY - IF PROBLEM OCCURRED IN RAV4, WHY NOT COROLLAS? MY 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA WOULD NOT START ONE MORNING. I KEPT TRYING TO START IT AND NO CLICKING OR SOUND OF THE CAR TRYING TO TURN OVER HAPPENED. EVENTUALLY IT DID START BUT HAD A VERY HESITATING SOUND TO IT. THE NEXT DAY, IT HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS SO I TRIED CHARGING THE BATTERY FOR A FEW MINUTES. THIS SEEMED TO WORK AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR TO WORK. AS I WAS DRIVING, THE CAR BEGAN TO SHIFT HARD AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I CALLED TOYOTA AND A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AFTER DISCOVERING THAT MY CAR WAS INVOLVED IN A RECALL. TOYOTA THEN GAVE THE GO AHEAD TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE ECM, THE PART BEING RECALLED. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE PART FREE OF CHARGE AND THE CAR SEEMED TO BE "FIXED". TWO DAYS LATER... MY CAR WILL ONCE, NOT START. *TR
I WAS RECENTLY RAN OFF THE ROAD AND ENDED UP GOING THROUGH TREES WHICH CAUSED SEVER FRONT END DAMAGE/ CAR CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS. MY 2005 TOYOTA AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V286000 (AIR BAGS) AND STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE WITHIN A REASONABLE TIMEFRAME TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS NOT EXPERIENCING A FAILURE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WHEN DECELERATING. THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY YET THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
BOUGHT A USED TOYOTA COROLLA IN TEXAS AT A TOYOTA DEALER, ON THE WAY HOME TO NY, AFTER A FEW HUNDRED MILES, IT DIED ON THE INTERSTATE AND MYSELF AND MY SON SPENT THE NIGHT IN IT, LIKE THE KEY WAS TURNED OFF. LOADED ON A ROLL-BACK, AND TAKEN TO A TOYOTA DEALER, THEY SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY, BUT THEY REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. NOW, $60 DOLLARS POORER, DOWN THE ROAD I GO, ANOTHER COUPLE HUNDRED MILES, AGAIN IT DIES ON THE INTERSTATE, SPENT ANOTHER NIGHT IN IT, ONTO ANOTHER ROLL-BACK TO ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER. THESE FOLKS TELL ME THAT I HAVE BAD COMPUTER SENSORS IN THE THROTTLE BODY, THEY INSTALL A NEW ONE, CHARGE ME $1,300 DOLLARS, AND OFF I GO, UNTIL A HUNDRED MILES DOWN THE ROAD, IT QUITS AGAIN ON THE INTERSTATE, THIS TIME ON A DANGEROUS SPOT ON A BLIND CURVE. A POLICE OFFICER PROVIDED PROTECTION FROM ON COMING TRAFFIC UNTIL THE TOW ARRIVED. ANOTHER ROLLBACK RIDE TO THE TOYOTA DEALER. THEY DO SOMETHING MORE TO IT, DOWN THE ROAD I GO, FINALLY MAKING IT HOME. NOW I KNOW THAT ITS NOT JUST MY CAR. I THINK THE TOYOTA COMPANY SHOULD HAVE REPAIRED THE COMPUTER SENSORS IN THE THROTTLE BODY AT NO CHARGE. ALL THREE TIMES THAT THE COROLLA QUIT, WE WERE IN A HEAVY TRAFFIC SITUATION IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF A MULTI-LANE INTERSTATE, AND MOVING AT THE SPEED LIMIT. WE WERE EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT NO ONE WAS HURT. *TR
ROCK FROM PASSING VEHICLE HEADED IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION HIT AND CAUSED WINDSHIELD GLASS TO BREAK AND GLASS FRAGMENTS WERE SPRAYED ON DRIVER. WINDSHIELD DAMAGE INCLUDED CRACKS UPTO 14 INCHES IN LENGTH, A POWDERED GLASS AREA SLIGHTLY SMALLER IN DIAMETER THAN A GOLF BALL, AND A PUNCTURE FROM 3/8 TO 1/2 INCHES IN DIAMETER. LARGEST FRAGMENT OF GLASS FOUND INSIDE THE CAR WAS VERY THIN AND ABOUT 1/2 INCHES LONG BY 3/8 INCHES HIGH. CAR HIT WAS TRAVELING AT 55 MPH. *TR
2005 TOYOTA COROLLA LE MODEL STALLED AND WOULD NOT RE-START AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES. FORTUNATELY IT HAPPENED PULLING UP TO THE HOUSE, AND NOT ON THE STREET OR FREEWAY. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION BY THE OWNER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP. NO AFTERMARKET FUEL PUMPS WERE AVAILABLE, AND SINCE TOYOTA WANTED $1039 FOR A NEW UNIT ( IE., THE WHOLE IN-TANK MODULE), AN AUTO DISMANTLER WHO SPECIALIZED IN LATE-MODEL TOYOTAS WAS FOUND AND THE PART WAS OBTAINED FOR ABOUT $100. AFTER INSTALLATION, THE CAR HAS PERFORMED FLAWLESSLY FOR A MONTH. *TR
LETTER FROM SENATOR SCHUMER ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE PROBLEMS WITH HER 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE ON HER WAY TO WORK, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE ENGINE LIGHT IMMEDIATELY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE HAD NO POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP. IT WAS DETERMINED, THE VEHICLE HAD A DEFECTIVE ECM. *JB UPDATED 10/01/10*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA S. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT WAS DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE COMPUTER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 88695.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA LE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON CRASH WHERE THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE TO HAVE BEEN STRUCK AT A CERTAIN ANGLE FOR THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO SEND PICTURES OF THE CRASH. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 42,000.
P2716 HARSH SHIFT FAULT CODE. I PURCHASED CAR FROM DEALER AS A CERTIFIED USED PERFECTLY RELIABLE ON 12/28/08 WITH 47000 MILES ON IT. THE OTHER DAY OUT OF NO WHERE, NO WARNINGS, NO NOTICEABLE CHANGES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, WHILE CRUISING UP THE 14 NORTH AT 75 MPH. DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT, STOPPED AT A FRIENDS HOUSE AND USED HIS OBD2 READER AND FOUND OUT THE ISSUE, STILL HAVEN'T NOTICED MUCH OF AN ISSUE EXCEPT FOR THE SHARP HARSH SHIFTING FROM 1ST THRU 3RD UNLESS BABYING IT. SO I GO INTO THE DEALER WITH 94786MILES AND SEE WHAT'S THE ISSUE AND WHY SO MANY PROBLEMS. I WAS TOLD YES ITS KNOWN A TSB HAS BEEN PUBLISHED, YES ITS A SAFETY HAZARD TO ANYONE ON OR AROUND THE ROAD DUE TO THE FACT IT COULD SHUT DOWN AT A MOMENTS NOTICE. BUT SINCE I AM PAST THE 80000 MI. WARRANTY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO EXCEPT OFFER ME A 10% DISCOUNT AND PAY 693.00 TO HAVE IT REPLACED, AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE IT WILL BE PERFECT AGAIN, MANY OF OUR CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD TO RETURN MULTIPLE TIMES FOR IT WHICH THE WARRANTY COVERS. HOW DOES MY CERTIFIED USED , EXTENDED WARRANTY PURCHASE, BEING A SAFETY HAZARD NOT COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY CONTROL, A SAFETY RECALL, OR SOMETHING? *TR

THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR PRODUCE ANY FAILURE CODES FOR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT WITH THE DEALER UNTIL THE VEHICLE COULD BE PROPERLY DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 116,770

THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY WOULD NOT ENGAGE CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO THE BACK OF HIS GARAGE. NO ONE WAS INJURED DURING THE INCIDENT. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WA INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPRODUCED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 40000.
OUR 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA (102,000 MILES) EXPERIENCES VERY HARD AUTOMATIC SHIFTING THAT MAKES IT SOMETIMES DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WHILE DRIVING. THIS JUST HAPPENED SUDDENLY. AT FIRST THE PROBLEM WAS JUST INTERMITTENT, BUT NOW IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE CAR CHANGES GEARS. WE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND SAW THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH 05-07 TOYOTAS OF CERTAIN MODELS, AND THAT IT'S DUE TO A FAULTY ECM. UNFORTUNATELY, TOYOTA REFUSES TO REPLACE THE ECM, WHICH IS THE ONLY ($1000+) SOLUTION. *TR
2005 TOYOTA COROLLA STALLED IN A BAD LOCATION, I COULD OF GOT HIT! SOME MILES LATER CAR SHIFTED RUFF, SOME MILES LATER ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO THE NEAREST PLACE " AUTOZONE" TO HAVE TEST RAN, TEST RESULTS WAS CODE P2716 I'M SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR ANY WHERE!!!! *TR
I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 60 MPH DOWN THE FREEWAY WHEN SUDDENLY WITH NO WARNING, THE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING. I HAD TO CRUISE OVER TO THE SHOULDER OUT OF DANGER. I EVENTUALLY WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ($97.00) AND TOLD ME IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. THEY TOLD ME IT MIGHT BE COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THAT'S WHEN I ASKED THEM IF WATER COULD HAVE POSSIBLY GOTTEN INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM (GASOLINE). THEY SAID THEY DID NOT DO A FUEL CHECK, BUT WOULD DO ONE. THEY CALLED ME BACK AND SAID IT WAS CONTAMINATED GAS AND THAT SOME SILVERY METALLIC SUBSTANCE WAS IN THE GASOLINE. IT COST ME $1,605.00 TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP, CLEAN THE FUEL INJECTORS, CLEAN OUT THE GAS TANK. NEXT DAY THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE BAD GAS HAD KILLED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND THE RATIO OXYGEN SENSORS. COST ME ANOTHER $1,980.88. CALLED THE GAS COMPANY I GOT THE GAS FROM AND THEY DENIED MY CLAIM SAYING NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE EVEN THOUGH THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED BAD GASOLINE. THE GAS COMPANY TOLD ME THAT WHEN FUEL PUMPS GO, THEY CAN EMIT A METALLIC SUBSTANCE IN THE GASOLINE. NOW I DON'T KNOW WHO TO BELIEVE AFTER HEARING ABOUT ALL THESE FUEL PUMPS GOING. FUNNY THING IS THAT WHEN I WAS PAYING FOR MY CAR THE 2ND TIME AROUND, A WOMAN PAYING FOR HER REPAIR WORK SAID HER FUEL PUMP WENT OUT TOO. SHE HAD THE SAME CAR -- 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA !!! SHE ALSO HAD TO PAY $1,500.00. SOMETHING IS FISHY HERE. *TR
ROUGHLY A MONTH AGO, OUR 2005 COROLLA WITH ABOUT 40,000 MILES SUDDENLY STALLED WHILE TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON A MAJOR ROAD. THE ENGINE CUT OUT WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE ENGINE TROUBLE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. TURNING THE IGNITION AGAIN, THE CAR WOULD START FOR A FEW SECONDS AND STALL OUT AGAIN. A FEW TIMES, UPON TRYING TO START THE CAR AGAIN, IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL. THE CAR WOULD NOT RUN AND NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO A MECHANIC. THE CAR GAVE NO SIGNS OF TROUBLE BEFORE THE STALLING INCIDENT. THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR, CRANK SENSOR AND ENGINE CONTROL COMPUTER ALL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, ACCORDING TO OUR MECHANIC. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE OLD PARTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE. *TR
COMING TO A STOP WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, I FIRST FELT RESISTANCE FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL THEN NOTHING. AT THE SAME TIME, THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL. THIS HAPPENED TWICE IN A 10 DAY PERIOD. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 COROLLA S, AND THE ECU PROBLEM IS WELL-KNOWN, AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I HAD MY FIRST PROBLEM WITH MY ECU, AT 62K MILES, AND THANK GOD, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN WHILE I WAS ON MY DAILY 40 MILE COMMUTE ON A HIGH-SPEED, HEAVY-TRAFFIC HIGHWAY. MY CAR JUST WOULDN'T START AT RANDOM WHEN I WAS LEAVING A STORE, THE STARTER WASN'T CRANKING, NOTHING WAS HAPPENING, JUST NOTHING WHEN I TURNED THE KEY. NO LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD, OTHER THAN THE DOOR LIGHT WHERE I HAD THE DOOR OPEN (IT WAS 95 DEGREES, AND MY POWER WINDOWS OBVIOUSLY WEREN'T WORKING). DID RESEARCH AND SAW THAT THE ECM IS A TERRIBLE PROBLEM ON 05-07 COROLLAS, AND THE TOYOTA SERVICE MAN AGREED THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. GOT IT REPLACED, AND NOT EVEN 24 HOURS AFTER PICKING IT UP FROM THE DEALER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN, STRANDING ME AT WORK WITH NO WAY TO GET HOME. THIS IS A RIDICULOUS PROBLEM, AND IT IS CERTAINLY A SAFETY HAZARD WITH MANY REPORTS OF THE CAR STOPPING WHILE PEOPLE ARE DRIVING. *TR
CAR WAS RUNNING WITH THE SHIFT IN THE PARK POSITION FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 OR 6 MINUTES. SUDDENLY IT STARTING ROLLING FAST IN REVERSE. I WAS STANDING NEXT TO THE CAR ON THE PHONE AND WHEN IT STARTED TO ROLL DIDN'T REALIZE HOW FAST IT WAS MOVING SO I TRIED TO JUMP IN TO STOP IT. I WAS UNABLE TO MAKE IT IN TO THE CAR, FELL AND ROLLED UNDERNEATH IT AND THE FRONT TIRE RAN OVER THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY BODY. THE CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE FAST UNTIL IT CAME TO A HILL WHERE IT THEN TURNED AROUND IN TO THE FORWARD POSITION (NOT IN REVERSE) AND STARTED MOVING VERY SLOWLY UNTIL IT HIT A TREE AND STOPPED. I SUSTAINED A CRUSH INJURY TO MY RIGHT SIDE, FRACTURING ALL OF MY RIBS IN MULTIPLE PLACES (FLAIL CHEST). WAS TAKEN TO A LEVEL 1 TRAUMA HOSPITAL AND ADMITTED IN TO INTENSIVE CARE. SPENT A NUMBER OF WEEKS IN THE HOSPITAL AND A 6 MONTH RECOVERY AT HOME. STILL HAVE OPEN FRACTURES. WHEN THE CAR WAS CHECKED BY THE POLICE IT WAS STILL IN PARK WITH THE IGNITION IN THE RUNNING POSITION ALTHOUGH THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING. SOMETHING WENT SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION THAT DAY. *JS
TOYOTA ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE (#AC002-06) BULLETIN REGARDING THE CONDENSER NOT BEING PROPERLY PROTECTED FOR THE 05 AND 06 COROLLA MODELS. APPROXIMATELY A WEEK AND A HALF LATER THE VEHICLE AGAIN BEGAN TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED HER THEY BELIEVE THE AMPLIFIER WAS DRAINING POWER FROM THE BATTERY WHICH MAY BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. THE AMPLIFIER WAS REMOVED BY THE AUTHORIZED DEALER. UPON RECEIVING THE VEHICLE IT CONTINUED TO INTERMITTENTLY STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT SHE WAS UNSURE IF THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURES CONTINUE TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,816 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,955.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT AROUND 65 MPH. THEY WERE CLOSING THE RIGHT LANE FOR ROAD WORK, LEADING EVERYONE TO MERGE INTO ONE LANE. I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THEY LOCKED UP. WHILE STOPPED FOR MERE SECONDS, I HAD NOT EVEN PUT THE CAR INTO PARK YET, MY CAR STARTED ROLLING DOWN THE MEDIAN'S EMBANKMENT, THROUGH THE WOODS WHILE MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKE. I KEPT PRESSING THE BRAKE AND IT WAS NOT RESPONDING. I HIT A TREE AFTER ROLLING APPROX 100 FEET INTO THE WOODS. A TOYOTA DEALER IS CURRENTLY DOING THE REPAIRS, AND TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKES WERE IN FACT WORKING WHEN DRIVING IT AROUND THE SHOP AT SLOW SPEEDS. I FEEL LIKE NO ONE BELIEVES ME, NOR IS EVEN OFFERING AN EXPLANATION ON HOW THIS COULD EVEN HAPPEN. *TR

AIR FLOAT SENSOR OR ECM PROBLEM: IN MAY 2010, WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER WORK, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME UP, AND WITHIN A FEW MINUTE, THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TO A STOP EVEN I PRESS ON THE GAS PADDLE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AND TRIED STARTING IT AGAIN, AND THE CAR STARTED AGAIN AND CHECK ENGINE WAS OFF. HOWEVER, I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM A FEW MONTHS LATER. I HAD TO REPLACE THE AIR FLOAT SENSOR AGAIN. TWO OR THREE WEEKS AFTER THE SECOND REPLACEMENT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME UP AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT TO THE AUTO SHOP, AND THE MECHANIC FOUND PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) AND REPLACED THE ORIGINAL ECM WITH AN USED ECM. THE SECURITY LIGHT CAME UP AFTER THE ECM WAS REPLACED. ACCORDING THE MECHANIC, THE SECURITY LIGHT CAME UP BECAUSE THE USED ECM DOESN'T HAVE THE SECURITY FEATURE THAT THE ORIGINAL ECM HAS. AFTER THAT, THE ENGINE LIGHT DIDN'T COME UP AGAIN TIL ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO (FEB. 2011). AROUND THE SAME TIME, I RECEIVED AN ECM SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND HAD THE ECM REPLACED ON FEB. 19, HOPING THAT IT WILL FIX THE SECURITY LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEM. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED; YET, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND CRASHED INTO A UTILITY POLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED FOR THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE INSURANCE COMPANY WOULD INVESTIGATE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THIRTY DAYS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000. UPDATED 6/21/10 *CN UPDATED 06/24/10.*JB

CAR STARTED TO RACE, JUMPED OVER CEMENT BARRIER, ONTO ROAD, THEN ONTO A GRASSY AREA, ABLE TO STEER AWAY FROM PUBLIC BENCH, TREE, UNDER CARRIAGE CAUGHT BOTTOM OF LIGHT POLE, TIRE WENT FLAT, CAR SLOWED DOWN AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE BACK TO PARKING AREA. APPROX $1800. DAMAGES TO BUMPER, RIGHT FRONT FENDER, TIRE REPLACED. TOYOTA HAS NOT SEEN CAR YET. *TR
