TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED WITH NO RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE LOSS CONTROL AND TRAVELED OFF OF THE ROAD INTO A GRASSY AREA AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY CENTER. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED FOR THE INCIDENT. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL PERFORM AN INVESTIGATION OF THE VEHICLE BRAKE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 48,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKES FROM 5 MPH, THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE UNTIL THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THERE COULD BE A LINKAGE DEFECT IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR MAT AND HAS NOT HAD ANY FURTHER UNINTENDED ACCELERATION ISSUES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000. UPDATED 11/03/10. *LJ

2003 - ENGINE STALLED; TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AND INDICATED WAS COMPUTER. COMPUTER WAS REPLACED DUE TO BEING UNDER WARRANTY. 03/17/10 - COMING HOME FROM WORK AND WITHIN 1/4 TO 1/2 MILE OF GETTING ONTO HIGHWAY CAR STALLS, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 25 MILES PER HOUR. EVENTUALLY ENGINE STOPPED TOTALLY. TOWED TO NEAREST FACILITY AND UPON RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS ASSESSED THAT IT WAS THE COMPUTER AGAIN. ATTEMPTING TO RESOLVE THIS W/ TOYOTA AS THIS IS A SECOND FAILURE ON THE COMPUTER. NO RESOLUTION TO DATE. *TR
DETAILS: AT 169,542 MILES MY 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON & DEVELOPED HARSH / JERKY AUTOMATIC GEAR CHANGES (PARK TO FIRST AND WHILE DRIVING, FIRST TO SECOND). THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THIS AS A FAULTY ENGINE COMPUTER BASED ON CODE P2716. REPLACEMENT OF THE MODULE CORRECTED THE PROBLEM AT A COST OF ALMOST $600 FOR THE COMPUTER ITSELF + LABOR. I WAS TOLD THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 2005 COROLLAS. *TR
I OWN A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. JUST RECENTLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SOON AFTER THE TRANSMISSION WOULD JUMP EVERY TIME THE CAR SHIFTED INTO A HIGHER GEAR. IN OTHER WORDS, AS I INCREASED IN SPEED IT WOULD MAKE A HARD SHIFT OR SOMETHING LIKE IT. TURNS OUT THAT THE ECM IS BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. FROM DOING A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM AND DEFINITELY POSES A SAFETY RISK. I LOVE TOYOTA, BUT THIS IS A PROBLEM SINCE SOME DRIVERS EXPERIENCE A COMPLETE SHUT DOWN WHILE THEY ARE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. WHILE CROSSING LARGE INTERSECTION @ 15-20 MPH CAR LOST POWER AND TRIED TO STALL, AFTER A FEW SECONDS IT CLEARED UP, APPROX. 5 MIN. LATTER WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, ENGINE RPM DROPPED FROM IDLE ( 1000RPM) TO 450 RPM WITH ENGINE FLUTTERING TRYING TO STALL, THIS LASTED ABOUT 7-10 SECONDS THEN SUDDENLY CLEARED UP. DID NOT TAKE CAR TOYOTA AS YET, TRYING TO GET MORE INFO FROM TOYOTA ABOUT PROBLEM. *TR
THIS COMPLAINT IS CONCERNING MY 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA ON THE 11TH OF MARCH 2010 WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES AN HOUR I WENT TO ACCELERATE TO CHANGE LANES. AS I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR MY CAR DID NOT RESPOND, AND BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN. I TURNED THE WHEEL TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND REALIZED THAT I DID NOT HAVE POWER STEERING, THUS CONFIRMING THE OVERALL STALL. I MANAGED TO GET TO THE SHOULDER AND AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE I TRIED TO TURN THE KEY AND THE CAR CAME BACK ON. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO DON DAVIS CERTIFIED TOYOTA PARTS AND REPAIR. AFTER RUNNING A THREE HOUR DIAGNOSTIC WAS REPORTED TO ME THAT "NOTHING WAS WRONG" WITH THE CAR. THE COMPUTER SHOWED NO SIGNS OF ANY TYPE OF GLITCH OR MALFUNCTION. I RETURNED HOME, ONLY TO FIND A REPORT SEVERAL DAYS LATER ABOUT COROLLAS SUDDENLY STALLING. *TR *DT
ON 3/11/2010, I DROVE 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA ON THE EXIT OF HIGH WAY AT ABOUT 35 MILE PER HR. THE CAR SUDDENLY SPEED U AND HIT CONCERT BARRIER. MY CAR WAS TOTAL LOSS. I AM A GOOD DRIVE AND NEVER HAD A TICKET DURING PAST 20 YEARS. I AM SURE IT IS CAR PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND STALLS THEN WONT SHIFT ALMOST REARENDED ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE OF LOSS OF POWER. HAD IT CHECKED AND THEY SAY THE ECM IS BAD. AGAIN. *TR
FAILURE OF ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (CURRENTLY REFERED TO AS "ECU" BY TOYOTA TECHNICIANS). THIS IS THE SECOND FAILURE OF THIS COMPONENT FOR THIS VEHICLE. THIS FAILURE HAS CAUSED MY CAR TO BUCK SIGNIFICANTLY ON UPSHIFTS OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANS. PART WAS ORIGINALLY REPLACED IN 2006 UNDER GUIDELINES OF TSB TC014-06. TC015-07 REFERS TO THE SAME PROBLEM AND WAS ISSUED AFTER REPAIRS TO MY VEHICLE. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE CONTINUING FAILURE OF THIS PART.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT 10MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED HITTING A TELEPHONE POLE TEARING DOWN TWO FENCES AND A GARAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED BUT THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND IS AVAILABLE IF NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND A CLAIM WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD COME OUT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH INTO A PARKING SPACE. WHEN HE TOOK HIS FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND PLACED IT ON THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO PARK AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT A PART OF NHTSA RECALL #10V017000 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ACCELERATOR PEDAL. 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. 3/1/2010-ENGINE CUTS OUT/STALLS WHILE DRIVING AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. RETRIEVED CODES P0606 AND P0456. BROUGHT TO LOCAL SERVICE AND WAS DIAGNOSED AS ECM FAILURE. SERVICE REP STATES THAT IT HAS TO GO TO TOYOTA BECAUSE ECM IS ON TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN EXTENDED WARRANTY. 3/2/1010-TOYOTA NASHUA SERVICE RETRIEVED CODES P0606 AND P0607 REPLACED ECM COST $640.36. 3/4/2010 ENGINE STALLS WHILE DRIVING WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BROUGHT BACK TO TOYOTA SERVICE WITH SAME CODES. THEY CLEARED CODES WITH NO REPAIR. 4/13/2010 ENGINE STALLS WHILE DRIVING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND BROUGHT BACK TO TOYOTA SERVICE. RETRIEVED CODE P0606 AND P0607. REPLACED REAR OXYGEN SENSOR. $259.35. 4/14/2010 ENGINE STALLS WHILE DRIVING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND BROUGHT BACK TO TOYOTA SERVICE. CAR IS CURRENTLY BEING DIAGNOSED. KEPT CAR OVER NIGHT. AWAITING REPAIR DIAGNOSIS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THIS CAR STALLS ON HIGHWAYS AT 65MPH WITH LITTLE TIME TO GET TO BREAKDOWN LANE. RISK OF SERIOUS TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AGAIN AND GET WARRANTY EXTENDED BEYOND 80K MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 30 MPH THROUGH A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. IN ADDITION, WHEN IN THE REVERSE POSITION THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT EXTREMELY HARD AND THE AIR CONDITIONER HAD BECOME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THAT THE CENTRAL COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. ALL REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE OWNER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 99,000.
I WAS IN THE ACT OF PARKING MY VEHICLE IN A PARKING LOT AND PLACED MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND PROCEEDED TO SHIFT THE GEAR INTO THE PARK POSITION. BUT BEFORE I COULD COMPLETE THIS ACTION, MY VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY ACCELERATED AND HURTLED FORWARD. I WAS LUCKY THAT MY VEHICLE WAS STOPPED BY CRASHING INTO A METAL SIGN POST. HAD THE POST NOT BEEN THERE, MY VEHICLE WOULD HAVE GONE INTO A VERY BUSY MAIN ROAD. *TR
THE ENGINE STALLED LOTS OF TIME WHEN I USED BRAKE TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN, OR WHEN I DROVE AT LOW SPEED IN TRAFFIC, SUCH AS 1 TO 5 MILE PER HOUR. I HAD TO PRESS GAS AT A STOP SIGN WHILE I PUT THE CAR IN PARKING POSITION TO KEEP THE ENGINE ALIVE. IT TOOK THE DEALER MORE THAN ONE MONTH TO FIX IT. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER RETURNED IT TO ME AND TOLD ME THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN FIXED, THE CAR STALLED WITHIN 200 FT AFTER I LEFT THE DEALER. I WALKED BACK AND TOLD THE DEALER. THE DEALER TOLD ME TO DRIVE IT BACK TO HOME AND "LET THE COMPUTER LEARN BY ITSELF". I DID AS THE DEALER TOLD ME BUT THE CAR STALLED AS BEFORE. I HAD TO BRING IT BACK TO THE DEALER. DEALER CHANGED THE COMPUTER FOR ME. THE ENGINE-STALL PROBLEM IS SOLVED. RIGHT NOW, THE CAR (MOST PROBABLY THE ENGINE) STILL VIBRATES/SHAKES STRONGLY WHEN I STOP THE CAR AT THE STOP SIGN, AT THE RED LIGHT, AND DRIVE THE CAR AT VERY LOW SPEED (SUCH AS 1 TO 5 MILE PER HOUR). *TR
WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND PUT THE CAR INTO 1ST GEAR AND PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE UP TO 15MPG. UPON SHIFTING THE CAR INTO 2ND GEAR IT DID NOT TAKE AND THE CAR THEN MADE A NOISE. I HAD TO THEN PLACE THE CAR BACK INTO 1ST GEAR AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ALMOST GETTING HIT BY OTHER TRAFFIC AND STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR A FULL INSPECTION. THERE WAS NOTHING VISIBLE UPON INSPECTION AND NO CURRENT NOISES AT THAT TIME SO I PROCEEDED TO GO AGAIN FIRST SHIFTING INTO 1ST GEAR THEN SECOND AND I STOPPED AT 3RD AND WENT STRAIGHT HOME. ABOUT ONE AND 1/2 MILES LATER IT STARTED MAKING ANOTHER NOISE SIMILAR TO THE FIRST, BUT IT WAS CONTINUOUS AND SO I PARKED THE CAR AT HOME AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY THEN EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MOTOR(BEING THE TYPE THAT IT WAS) AND WHAT HAD HAPPENED IS A ROD IN THE ENGINE HAD BEEN SPUN. THEY SAID IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE AND I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL AND WRECKED THE CAR VERY EASILY. THEY SAID THAT DUE TO THE NATURE AND PRICE THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE CAR BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A FULL NEW ENGINE REPLACEMENT AND THAT WOULD BE UP TO $8K BECAUSE OF IT BEING A RARE AND HIGH PERFORMANCE PRICE. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION AND ONLINE RESEARCH IT IS VERY COMMON WHILE DOWNSHIFTING THIS ENGINE THAT THEY SLIP A GEAR AND SPIN THE ROD MOSTLY IN THE #4 ROD AND NEED A NEW ENGINE FOR COMPLETE REPAIRS. ALSO IT WOULD VERY LIKELY CONTINUE TO HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN THUS PUTTING ME AND MY FAMILY IN DANGER ON THE ROAD. TOYOTA WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM THEY DO ACKNOWLEDGE IT AND THAT IT EXISTS, BUT WILL NOT DO THE REPAIRS BECAUSE OF THE PRICE ISSUE. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THOUGH. THE BAR ALSO REQUESTED THAT IT BE REPORTED TO NHTSA. *TR
2005 COROLLA, 60,000 MILES: CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CAR WENT INTO "SAFE" MODE (IDLE SPEED) WHILE DOING 65MPH. TOYOTA REPLACED THROTTLE BODY AND THE NEXT DAY IT DID THE SAME THING. TOYOTA SAID THE "NEW' THROTTLE BODY THEY PUT IN WAS DEFECTIVE. IT'S STILL AT TOYOTA WAITING FOR ANOTHER THROTTLE BODY. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC YOU DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS GOING TO GO INTO SAFE MODE OR NOT, AND OF COURSE, GOING DOWN HIGHWAY 50-70 MPH THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE OF BEING REAR-ENDED. THIS IS NOT A SAFE SITUATION. *TR
I WAS DRIVING FROM SANTA MARIA TO MY JOB IN LOMPOC CALIFORNIA WHEN MY ACCELERATOR JUMPED AND SPEEDED UP TO 85MPH I APPLIED MY BRAKES BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK I LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE AND I STARTED SPINNING AND RIGHT BEFORE THE CAR WAS ABOUT TO GO OFF THE FREEWAY I MANAGED TO GET CONTROL OF THE CAR BACK AND COME TO A STOP, I WAS TERRIFIED I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE. IT WAS UPSETTING TO SEE HOW MY ACCELERATOR JUST WAS OUT OF CONTROL. I WAS SO AFRAID AFTER THE ACCIDENT THAT I TOOK MY CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY CHECKED IT AND THE MECHANICS COULDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS. I DON'T TRUST MY CAR'S ACCELERATOR ANYMORE AFTER THAT HORRIFYING INCIDENT I THINK TOYOTA SHOULD DO SOMETHING TO SOLVE THIS HUGE LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM I COULD HAVE LOST MY LIFE. *TR
I HAVE 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA S. THE BRAKE OF THAT CAR DOES NOT WORK SUFFICIENT DURING COLD SPECIALLY LOWER THAN 20OF TEMPERATURE. ONE DAY IT WAS TOTALLY FAILED THE BRAKE AND I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR. FORTUNATELY SPEED WAS AROUND 20 MPH, SO I ESCAPED FROM AN ACCIDENT. I WAS PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL FULLY SEVERAL TIMES BUT IT WAS NOT WORK ON THAT MOMENT. I FELT NORMAL PRESSURE WITHOUT ANY EXTRA HARDNESS. AFTER THAT IT WAS WORK AGAIN. I THINK THIS IS THE PROBLEM OF MANUFACTURER. BY THE BY, I AM LIVING IN COLUMBIA, MISSOURI. WOULD YOU PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH MANUFACTURER FOR BETTER SAFETY. *TR
THE PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO - WHILE SHIFTING MY 2005 COROLLA (TYPICALLY WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR AND THEN FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR). IN ORDER TO NOT MAKE MY CAR STALL - I WOULD JUST GIVE IT A LOT OF EXTRA GAS TO ENSURE THAT IT WOULDN'T STALL. THE PROBLEM OCCURS REGULARLY - ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE (ABOUT 1 TIME A WEEK). THE PROBLEM ONLY OCCURS WHEN STARTING AND STOPPING AND SHIFTING IN THE LOW GEARS. AFTER THIS PROBLEM STARTED IN FEB OF 2010 - I TOOK THE CAR TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THEY HOOKED THE CAR UP TO A COMPUTER AND SAID IT WAS FINE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY ALSO TOOK THE CAR ON A DRIVE TO SEE IF IT WOULD DO IT THEN, AND THEY CLAIMED IT DIDN'T. SO NOTHING WAS DONE AT THE THAT TIME. WHEN I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP, THE CAR CONTINUED TO SHIFT HARSHLY. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2005 COROLLA SE FEBRUARY 2009. IMMEDIATELY AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR I NOTICED THAT IT VEERED HEAVILY TO THE RIGHT AND THOUGHT MAYBE THE ALIGNMENT WAS OFF. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY TEST DROVE IT AND SAID THAT IT WAS OK. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED SO I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN AND THE TECHNICIAN EXPLAINED TO ME THAT "ALL TOYOTAS VEERED TO THE RIGHT" AND THAT DOING AN ALIGNMENT WOULD NOT HELP ANY AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THIS HAPPENS ON ALL ROADS AT ANY SPEED, NOT JUST HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT VEERS AT 25 MPH AND THE TECH ALSO TOLD ME THAT IT WONT VEER IF I DON'T ACCELERATE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE LOGIC IN THAT. IT SEEMS TO ONLY BE GETTING WORSE I HAVE TO HOLD MY STEERING WHEEL ABOUT 10 DEGREES TO THE LEFT AT ALL TIMES WHILE DRIVING TO DRIVE STRAIGHT. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR AND NOW I AM STUCK PAYING FOR IT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO OR WHO WILL LISTEN. PLEASE HELP OR INITIATE A RECALL. THANK YOU. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 5 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE, SUDDENLY IT ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED BUT WOULD NOT ENGAGE CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A LIGHT POLE. THE PASSENGER SUFFERED INJURIES TO HER BACK. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED FOR THE INCIDENT. WHILE TRAVELING AT 35MPH ON A 50MPH ROADWAY, ANTICIPATING TO STOP OR STEER OFF THE ROADWAY, MY 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA BRAKES AND STEERING FAILED DESPITE REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO STOP OR STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE SOFT SHOULDER TO AVOID REAR ENDING THE VEHICLE STOPPED AHEAD OF ME. MY HUSBAND BOUGHT MY 2005 COROLLA AS A WEDDING GIFT. IT WAS SLIGHTLY USED BUT BOUGHT FROM ONE OF THE BEST TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS IN OUR TOWN. IT HAD APPROX. 18000 MILES WHEN I GOT T IN FEB OF 2007. IT WAS VERY BASIC AND A STANDARD. THE SHIFTING/CLUTCH NEVER SEEMED RIGHT FROM THE START BUT I LEARNED HOW TO DEAL WITH IT. IN FEB OF 2010, I WAS LEAVING WORK AND WAS A FEW MILES FROM HOME. 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. FOR 18 MONTHS I HAVE BEEN TAKING MY CAR TO DEALER COMPLAINING OF THE IDLING PROBLEM. WHEN I SPEEDED UP AND PRESSED GAS FROM 30 TO 55 MILE PER HOUR AT THE FREEWAY, I FOUND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88,000.

I HEARD OF NHTSA INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM AND WANTED TO REPORT MY FINDINGS THAT LOW PRESSURE CAN SEVERELY EFFECT THE STEERING ON THIS MODEL. *TR

I CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE FUEL CAP WAS ON CORRECTLY AND COULD FIND NO OTHER REASON THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR MY CAR'S ENGINE COMPUTER AND IT WAS REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE I FEEL LIKE THE TIRES STICK LIKE THE CAR IS HAVING TROUBLE ACCELERATING, BUT SO FAR THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS GONE BACK ON. HOWEVER, GIVEN THE SAFETY CONCERNS WITH DRIVING THE CAR (AND OUR FEAR OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT), WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO FIX THE DEFECT AND BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING THE DEFECT. *TR
