INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) TO ADD SOME ADDITIONAL FUEL TO THE TOYOTA FIRE STORM.....I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA THAT RECENTLY HAD A "COMPUTER PROBLEM" DIAGNOSED AS A SHIFT SOLENOID PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM WAS A KNOWN ISSUE TO TOYOTA AND IT WAS SUCH AN ISSUE, THERE WAS A TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) WRITTEN TO HELP MECHANICS DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I STOPPED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE (NEW) AND THEY TOLD ME TO CALL TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE - WHICH I DID. ALTHOUGH THEY ADMITTED TO AND RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY WOULD ONLY PARTIALLY REIMBURSE PEOPLE WHO HAD LESS THAN 80,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLES. I HAD OVER THAT AMOUNT. MY MECHANIC SAID IF I WERE TO TAKE IT TO A TOYOTA GARAGE, THEY WOULD JUST HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM WITHOUT TELLING ME ABOUT IT, RATHER THAN HAVE A RECALL. THAT IS THE WAY THEY CIRCUMVENT THE SYSTEM AND HAVE HIGH QUALITY NUMBERS. THEY FIX THINGS WHILE THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR OTHER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. SINCE I DO ALL OF MY OWN MAINTENANCE - EXCEPT FOR MAJOR ITEMS - THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO FIX MY CAR. I WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE ADDED TO THE EXPANDING FILE ON TOYOTA. PERSONALLY, I THINK I SHOULD HAVE BEEN REIMBURSED FOR THE ALMOST $2000 IT COST TO REPLACE ONE OF THE FOUR SHIFT SOLENOID VALVES IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THEN HAVE THE FAULTY COMPUTER REPLACED. ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH BOTH COROLLA'S AND MATRIX'S. THEY HAVE DONE THIS A LOT IN THE PAST AND SHOULD BE NAILED FOR THIS AND OTHER EPISODES. I CAN TELL YOU AS I TOLD THE LADY IN CUSTOMER SERVICE - THIS WAS THE FIRST AND LAST TOYOTA VEHICLE I WILL EVER PURCHASE. I PURCHASED THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE BECAUSE I DROVE FROM PEORIA TO INDIANAPOLIS WEEKLY FOR WORK AS A CONSULTANT AND IT HAD DECENT GAS MILEAGE. I WILL PURCHASE A GM OR FORD PRODUCT GOING FORWARD. 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA LE 4 DOOR SEDAN. INCIDENT MILEAGE 106,000; CURRENT MILEAGE 108,000. HARSH SHIFT, ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WITH DTC P2716. OCCURS CONSTANTLY. CAR (ESPECIALLY IN LOW GEARS) LURCHES FORWARD AS IT SHIFTS TO THE NEXT GEAR. I HAVE TO BE EXTRA CAREFUL OF MY SPACING TO ENSURE I DON'T ACCIDENTALLY HIT SOMEONE. TOYOTA SERVICE BULLETIN TC015-07 SAYS THE ECM SHOULD BE REPLACED AT THE TUNE OF 800+ DOLLARS. ALTHOUGH I AM OVER THE 80K MILES WARRANTY FOR THE TOYOTA FEDERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY "THIS WARRANTY IS IN EFFECT FOR 96 MONTHS OR 80,000 MILES, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST, FROM THE VEHICLE?S IN-SERVICE DATE.", I DON'T THINK THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A KNOWN DEFECTIVE COMPONENT, ESPECIALLY SINCE MOST OF MY MILES ARE OPEN-HIGHWAY COMMUTING AND I AM LESS THAN THE 8 YEARS OF THE WARRANTY'S TIME LIMIT. HAVING A HARD TIME FINDING A REPLACEMENT PART THAT I CAN TRUST. *TR
I AM CONTACTING ODI NHTSA ABOUT A PROBLEM WITH MY TOYOTA COROLLA 2005, REGARDING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE CHARCOAL VAPOR CANISTER. BACK, IN OCTOBER 2007, MY CAR'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON (THIS WAS WHEN THE MILEAGE WAS AROUND 41,200). BY 'GLEN TOYOTA NJ' I CAME TO KNOW THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, DEW CHARCOAL CANISTER FAILURE. ALSO I WAS TOLD: BECAUSE THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED AFTER 36000 MILES, THE TOTAL REPAIR AROUND $480 WAS PAID BY ME. MY FRUSTRATION IS, THAT IT BROKE AFTER WARRANTY, BUT S L I G H T L Y OVER 36,000 MILES. I THINK, THAT ACCORDING TO FEDERAL REGULATIONS IN TOUGHENING CAR EMISSION REQUIREMENTS, AN EMISSION CONTROL DEVICE SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN JUST TWO AND A HALF YEARS. ALSO I LEARNED THAT USA GOVERNMENT OBLIGATED ALL CAR MANUFACTURERS TO EXTEND WARRANTY FOR EXHAUST SYSTEM UP TO 80,000 MILES. IF YOU ARE IN POWER, THIS IS THE RIGHT TIME TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY UP TO 80,000 FOR EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM DEVICES. ALSO BECAUSE OF A HUGE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINS, PARTICULARLY FOR CHARCOAL VAPOR CANISTERS TOYOTA MANUFACTURER SHOULD PRONOUNCE A RECALL. *TR SINCERELY ISAAC
VEHICLE IN TO DEALER FOR ALIGNMENT. DEALER SAID REAR AXEL HAD TO BE SHIMMED FOR ALIGNMENT. WHEN CUSTOMER PICKED UP VEHICLE DEALER SAID ALIGNMENT WOULD BE GOOD AND SHIMS WOULD BE GOOD FOR FUTURE ALIGNMENTS. 13 MONTHS LATER AND 23,000 MILES LATER THE VEHICLE WORE OUT TO 2/32NDS 4 NEW TIRES. AT ANOTHER REPAIR CENTER OTHER THAN DOWNEAST TOYOTA ONCE THE SHIMS WERE REMOVED THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE ALIGNED.
I OWN/DRIVE A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA CE. STARTING LAST YEAR (2008) IT BEGAN STALLING WHILE DRIVING. THE FIRST TIME IT STALLED AS I WAS TAKING A RIGHT TURN INTO THE PARKING LOT. LATER IN THE SUMMER OF 2009 THE ECM HAD TO BE REPLACED AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE REACHED 80,000 MI. (WHICH IS JUST OVER THE WARRANTY LIMIT). I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THE PREVIOUS INCIDENT WAS RELATED TO THE ECM. HOWEVER, THIS FALL THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN AND THE CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH ON A LOCAL STREET. EVERY BUMP BEGAN TO MAKE THE LIGHTS FLICKER AND THE ENGINE STALL. SPARKS CAME OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD EVERY TIME I HIT A DEVIATION IN THE ROAD. I WENT TO A NEARBY LOCAL SHOP AND THEY SAID IT WAS RELATED TO A BROKEN PIECE HOLDING THE BATTERY. THEY REMOVED THE BROKEN BRACKET AND THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAVE STOPPED. DURING THAT DRIVE IT PROBABLY STALLED ABOUT 10 TIMES. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED AGAIN, HOWEVER, I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW AWFUL IT WAS TO BE DRIVING WITH TWO CHILDREN IN YOUR BACK SEAT IN A VEHICLE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE SAFE WHILE IT STALLS AND YOU HAVE TO QUICKLY MANEUVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. OF COURSE TOYOTA DOES NOT HAVE ANY INTEREST IN HELPING ME WHILE I AM ABOVE MY WARRANTY. I THINK THAT THIS ISSUE ALONG WITH THE ECM NEEDING TO BE REPLACED AT WARRANTY EXPIRATION IS ENOUGH FOR ME NEVER TO PURCHASE ANOTHER TOYOTA VEHICLE EVER AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 65 MPH IN LIGHT RAIN, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO AN UNKNOWN OBJECT AND CONTINUED TO ROLLOVER. THE POLICE ARRIVED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING, RESULTING IN HAVING NO BRAKES OR STEERING CAUSING AN ACCIDENT*TGW THE CONSUMER STATED A MONTH AFTER THE ACCIDENT, SHE RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER IN THE MAIL REGARDING A PROBLEM WITH THE ECM MODULE. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE A TEST WAS PERFORMED ON THE ECM. IT WAS DETERMINED THE ECM WAS FAULTY. UPDATED 12/27/12
2005 TOYOTA COROLLA VIN # [XXX] HAD AIR BAG LIGHT GO ON 10/2009. BROUGHT TO A1 TOYOTA NEW HAVEN CT AND TOLD THERE WAS A FRONT PASSENGER SIDE PROBLEM. WAITED OVER 2 MONTHS FOR NEW AIR BAG HARNESS (CAR NOT DRIVABLE) AND HARNESS REPLACED (3400 DOLLARS). AIR BAG LIGHT WENT BACK ON 11/2010 AND BROUGHT BACK TO SAME DEALER 12/2010. CLOCKSPRING IN STEERING WHEEL REPLACED AND TENSION TIGHTENED ON FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WIRING AT COST OF 530 DOLLARS. AIR BAG LIGHT WENT OFF AFTER THIS REPAIR BUT WENT BACK ON AGAIN A WEEK AFTER LAST REPAIR MADE. A1 TOYOTA NOTIFIED. HAD NOTIFIED CUSTOMER SERVICE AT NATIONAL LEVEL (THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED) AND NOTIFIED REGIONAL TOYOTA OFFICE (THEY REFERRED ME BACK TO DEALER...) SO A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND CAR DEFINITELY NOT SAFE TO DRIVE... WOULD APPRECIATE YOU LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO IDLE ABNORMALLY AND WAS FOLLOWED BY A THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATING. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER TO HAVE THE FUEL INJECTOR CLEANED AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF. THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE WATER PUMP. AFTER A COUPLE HUNDRED MILES, THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN SO HE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. HE DID NOT HAVE IT INSPECTED BECAUSE HE WAS BEING CHARGED A DIAGNOSTIC FEE. HE THEN WENT BACK TO THE DEALER ON 02/27/2010 AND THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED. HE WAS TOLD THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE AND FUEL AIR SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. A FOLLOW-UP INSPECTION WAS SCHEDULED FOR 03/02/2010. THE CONTACT HAD NOT SPOKEN WITH THE MANUFACTURER TO-DATE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 92,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000.
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) COMPLAINT ABOUT AN ACCIDENT ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2009 I WAS DRIVING ON OLD HWY 75 BETWEEN SALIX AND SLOAN IN IOWA AT ABOUT 6-7 PM ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2009. MY CAR WAS A COROLLA 2005 CE [XXX] WHICH HAS 4-CYLINDER AND ABOUT 67,000 MILES ON IT. AS I WAS DRIVING ON OLD HWY 75, I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN ACCELERATION, THE CAR LURCHED AND PULLED ME TO THE DITCH ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE. I IMMEDIATELY LOOSEN THE ACCELERATION PAD BUT IT DIDN'T SLOW DOWN BUT ACCELERATED TOWARDS THE RIGHT HAND SIDE. THEN I WAS SCARED THAT IT WILL ROLL OVER IN THE DITCH AND SO I PULLED IT BACK TO THE LEFT, BUT THERE WAS A VAN COMING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION (NEXT LANE) AND THUS WE HAD A HEAD-ON COLLISION. THE TWO OLD LADIES INCURRED LEG INJURIES AND THEY COULDN'T COME OUT OF THE VAN. THE TWO BOYS (ABOUT 4 YEARS OLD) SEEMED FINE AND CAME OUT OF THE VAN. LATER ON THE TWO OLD LADIES NEEDED TO HAVE SURGERIES AND THEY FILED A LAWSUIT AGAINST ME. AT THAT TIME, I FELT THAT SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH MY COROLLA BUT I COULDN'T HAVE A CHANCE TO FIND IT OUT BECAUSE I NEED THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO GET ME ANOTHER CAR FOR COMMUTING PURPOSES. HOWEVER, I FEEL THAT THIS ACCIDENT WAS DUE TO THE COROLLA THAT I WAS DRIVING AT THE MOMENT AND THUS IT WAS NOT COMPLETELY MY FAULT. COROLLA 2005 IS NOT IN THE RECALL LIST, BUT I STILL WANT TO FILE THIS REPORT AND I WILL SEEK LEGAL ADVICE IN TERMS OF LIABILITY. PLEASE CONSIDER MY COMPLAINT CAREFULLY BECAUSE I ALMOST DIED IN THE ACCIDENT AND GIVE ME A REPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CONDENSER FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS MALFUNCTIONING AFTER BEING REPLACED ONCE IN THE PAST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CONDENSER AND VALVES WERE LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000. AIRBAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE TRAVELING 65 MPH. ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT PAST OR PRESENT. NOTHING WAS HIT, NO DAMAGE TO THE EXTERIOR OR UNDERCARRIAGE VEHICLE. *TR
AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT CAUSE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. TOYOTA HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO PROVIDE A REASON AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENED AND THEREFORE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. THEY HAVE DO LITTLE TO ADDRESS OUR CONCERNS. THEY HAVE REPAIRED THE AIR BAG, WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT CREATED THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE NOT REPAIRED THE NUMEROUS OTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUES WE ARE HAVING WITH THE VEHICLE SINCE THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. GETTING ANSWERS AND ASSISTANCE FROM TOYOTA HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE. *TR
I HIT BRAKES AT A STOP LIGHT & THE CAR ACCELERATED, HIT THE CAR IN FRONT ME & PUSHED IT THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. THE SECOND TIME I DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING, BUT WHEN I BRAKED IT AGAIN ACCELERATED. *TR
DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM: I OWN A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. ONE DAY IN AUGUST 2009, I PARKED MY CAR ON THE STREET FOR A FEW HOURS AND BY THE TIME I GOT BACK TO MY CAR TO START THE ENGINE, THE CAR WASN'T ABLE TO START. I HAD TO CALL THE TOW TRUCK COMPANY TO TOW MY CAR TO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP. ACCORDING TO THE DIAGNOSE FROM THE AUTO SHOP, MY CAR FAILED TO START DUE TO DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. *TR
CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF HWY IN 2009. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. AFTER DIAGNOSES MECHANIC PROVIDED ME A TECHNICAL BULLETIN THAT I HAVE A BAD ECM. TOOK TO TOYOTA AND TOYOTA DENIED THE CLAIM AND MADE ME REPLACE A FUEL PUMP INSTEAD. ONCE THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED THE CARS STILL WOULDN'T RUN. ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC INDICATED IT WAS THE ECM, WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE FUEL PUMP. TOYOTA DID NOT WANT TO RECOGNIZE A LONG STANDING PROBLEM WITH ECMS. 3 MECHANICS INDICATED IT WAS THE ECM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT LENSES WERE CLOUDED AND NO LONGER PROVIDED ENOUGH LIGHTING AT NIGHT. THE CONTACT CLEANED THE LENSES WITH A HEADLIGHT CLEANING KIT, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000. WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED STRESS CRACK FROM TOP TO BOTTOM IN MIDDLE WHILE SITTING IN DRIVEWAY OF RESIDENCE. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA AND IT HAS TOYO BRAND TIRES ON IT. THE TIRES HAVE 7/32" TREAD DEPTH WHICH IS 70% OF THE NEW 10/32" TIRE TREAD DEPTH. WHILE DRIVING FROM SOUTH AUSTIN TO SAN ANTONIO (70 MILES) THE TREAD AND BELTS SEPARATED FROM THE CARCASS OF THE TIRE WITH BARE METAL WIRES SHOWING WHERE THERE ONCE WAS TREAD. THE TIRE STILL HAD AIR IN IT BUT THE TREAD WAS PEELED OFF AND THE TREAD PIECES BEGAN TO STRIKE AGAINST THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE FENDER DESTROYING THE INNER FENDER LINER, DAMAGING THE VEHICLE FENDER, BREAKING OUT THE HEADLAMP AND FOG LIGHT FROM BEHIND AND RIPPING OUT THE HOOD RELEASE CABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT THE SPEED LIMIT AND THE TIRES WHERE PROPERLY INFLATED AT THE TIME OF THE DEFECT. I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY OFFERED TO TAKE 25% OFF OF A NEW SET OF TIRES. I TOOK IT TO THE TIRE DEALER THAT THEY RECOMMENDED AND THE MAN SAID THE TIRES WERE 4 YEARS OLD AND SHOULD BE REPLACED, THESE ARE THE SAME AGE AS THE CAR AND THE CAR DOESN'T NEED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE PHOTOS AND ESTIMATES FOR THE REPAIRS. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 105,000 MILES MY TOYOTA COROLLA BEGAN TO DEVELOP HARSH AND JERKY AUTOMATIC GEAR CHANGES WHICH PROGRESSED. AT 108,000 THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THIS AS A FAULTY ENGINE CONTROL MODULE ("COMPUTER") BASED ON CODE P2716. REPLACEMENT OF THE MODULE CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. I WAS INFORMED THAT TOYOTA HAD A SERVICE BULLETIN DATED SEPTEMBER 20, 2007 TSB NO. TC014-06 INDICATING THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS DEFECT AND WOULD COVER UNDER WARRANTY TO 96 MONTHS OR 80,000 MILES. *TR
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) I HAVE HAD A VARIETY OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SHOW UP IN MY 2005 COROLLA CE, [XXX]. THEY BEGAN ABOUT JULY 2009 AND CONTINUE TO THIS DAY, IN JULY, THE CAR WAS HARD TO START ON HOT DAYS. IT MAY BE CORROSION AT THE BATTERY GROUND OR IT MAY BE SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS. THEN, ABOUT THE 1ST OF JANUARY, THE ELECTRIC LOCKS FAILED TO WORK. ABOUT THE 20TH OF JANUARY, THEY WORKED AGAIN. SINCE I HAD DONE MY RESEARCH AND FOUND THIS PROBLEM TO BE COMMON IN 2005 TOYOTA COROLLAS, I EXPECTED THEM TO REPLACE THE ECM FOR ME. HOWEVER, GIVEN THAT MY CAR WAS JUST PAST 89,000 MILES AND THE WARRANTY ENDED AT 85,000, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING TOYOTA WOULD DO. I PURCHASED CAR NEW AND DRIVE BELT BEGAN SQUEALING AT 22,000 MILES. IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY SO TOOK IN TO HAVE FIXED AND THEY ONLY REPLACED THE BELT. NOW AT 45,000 DOING IT AGAIN. TOYOTA HAS BULLETIN TO REPLACE TENSIONER ARM BECAUSE THEY HAVE HAD SO MANY GO BAD. TENSIONER ARM IS DEFECTIVE AND CAUSING BELT TO WEAR OUT PREMATURELY. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. I HAVE HEARD OTHER COROLLA OWNERS HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE W/THEIR CAR. IT'S UNFAIR THAT A PART IS DEFECTIVE AND ALL CAR OWNERS HAVE TO PAY THE $350 TO HAVE CORRECTED. ON DECEMBER 11, 2008 MY DAUGHTER DROVE MY CAR TO HER PART TIME JOB, SHE CALLED AND TOLD ME THAT THE CAR STOPPED ON HER AS SHE PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT OF THE BANK, BUT STARTED BACK UP. THAT AFTERNOON UPON LEAVING THE BANK, THE CAR STOPPED AGAIN. SHE CALLED AND STATED THAT SHE SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE CAR. WITH IN MINUTES THE CAR WAS IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO PUT OUT THE FLAMES BEFORE THE CAR COMPLETELY BURNED, LEAVING BARE METAL, ALL THE WINDOWS WERE SHATTERED..
