MY 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA CE, THE AIR CONDITIONER JUST WENT OUT AND THERE IS NO AIR COMING OUT AT ALL, IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A PROBLEM WITH FREON, IT SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE CAR. NO AIR HOT OR COLD. *TR
2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. CONSUMER WRITES IN DISCONTENT CONCERNING VEHICLE REPAIRS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER RESOLVED, DESPITE PAYING FOR PARTS AND LABOR. THE CONSUMER THEN LEARNED OF A RECALL REGARDING THE ECM WHICH WAS THEN REPLACED. THE CONSUMER WROTE A LETTER TO TOYOTA REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE MONIES SPENT ON THE PREVIOUS REPAIRS. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER OF DENIAL. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, AN ABNORMAL SOUND EMITTED FROM THE ENGINE. THE PROBLEM RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVE BELT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,427.
SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR USED LAST YEAR, THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW HAS BEEN STICKING SOMETIMES. I THOUGHT THAT IT USUALLY HAPPENED WHEN THE WEATHER WAS WARM BUT REALIZED THAT IT EVEN HAPPENED WHEN IN COLD WEATHER, SO IT IS PROBABLY NOT WEATHER RELATED. WHEN I WANT TO PUT THE WINDOW DOWN, IT HAS BEEN POPPING DOWN LIKE IT WAS STUCK ON SOMETHING, I DON'T EVEN FEEL LIKE PUTTING IT DOWN SOMETIMES BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE IM GOING TO BREAK THE WINDOW MOTOR. THEN YESTERDAY WHEN I TRIED TO PUT THE WINDOW DOWN...THE DOOR PANEL WAS POPPING OUT AS IF THE WINDOW RUBBER WAS CURLING DOWN INTO THE WINDOW CHANNEL...ALTHOUGH THAT IS NOT WHAT I SAW OCCURRING. AT THAT TIME IT ALSO MADE A POPPING NOISE WHICH I HAVE HEARD LOUDER THEN OTHER TIMES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PLASTIC HEADLIGHT COVERINGS WERE DISCOLORED, WHICH CAUSED POOR VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE DEALER COULD CLEAN THE HEADLIGHTS, WHICH WOULD MAKE THEM THINNER. THE CONTACT DID NOT BELIEVE THAT WOULD BE EFFECTIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,271. UPDATED 06/09/09 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE PLASTIC HEADLIGHT LENS THAT COVERS THE HEADLIGHT WAS STARTING TO DISCOLOR. THE PROBLEM HAS PROGRESSED TO THE POINT THAT HE HAS A DIFFICULT TIME SEEING THE ROAD AT NIGHT. UPDATED 06/10/09.*JB THE CONSUMER IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE ENGINE RECALL. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED HIS VEHICLE WAS A PART OF THE RECALL. HE IS CONCERNED THE ENGINE MAY SHUT DOWN BEFORE THE RECALL IS PERFORMED, DUE TO LIMITED PARTS. ALSO, THE POWER STEERING HOSE, BATTERY, AND WATER PUMP WAS REPLACED. UPDATED EVOQ 09/22/10. *JB
IN LATE 2004, I FINANCED A BRAND NEW 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA WHILE RESIDING IN SOUTH FLORIDA. IN SUMMER 2008, I RELOCATED TO MASSACHUSETTS. IT WAS IN WINTER 2008 THAT THE ENGINE WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. I WASN'T REALLY GIVEN A REAL EXPLANATION OF WHY THE WARNING LAMP WAS ILLUMINATED. I WAS QUICKLY TOLD IT COULD BE FIXED. SO I PAID APPROX. $800.00 TO SUPPOSEDLY HAVE IT FIXED. LITERALLY, TWO WEEKS LATER THE ENGINE WARNING LAMP CAME BACK ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG AND WOULD HAVE TO RUN MORE DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT WOULD COST ADDITIONAL MONEY. AT THE TIME, I DID NOT HAVE ADDITIONAL MONEY SINCE I HAD JUST DISHED OUT NEARLY $800.00. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO INDEPENDENT AUTO SHOPS IN WHICH THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. IN THE STATE OF MASSACHUSETTS, YEARLY INSPECTIONS OF AN OPERATING VEHICLE IS REQUIRED. FOR THE PAST YEARS, I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE LIGHT MANUALLY TURNED OFF HOPING THAT IT WOULD NOT COME ON IN TIME FOR THE CAR TO BE INSPECTED. THE CAR HAS FAILED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BECAUSE THE ENGINE WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION TO THE ENGINE WARNING LAMP BEING ILLUMINATED, I HAVE ALSO AND STILL EXPERIENCE HARSH SHIFTING. THE HARSH SHIFTING STARTED APPROX. IN LATE 2009/2010. I ALSO STARTED NOTICING DECREASED LIGHTING VISIBILITY IN 2011. AT NIGHT, I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH MY HIGH BEAMS TO SEE PROPERLY. OUT OF FRUSTRATION, I GAVE UP ON TRYING TO FIND THE CAUSE FOR THESE ISSUES. I JUST DEALT WITH IT. I DON'T FREQUENTLY USE THE VEHICLE NOW BECAUSE I LIVE IN AN AREA THAT IS ACCESSIBLE TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION THAT ALLOWS ME TO GET TO WORK. MOST RECENTLY, I WAS INFORMED BY A FELLOW COROLLA OWNER THAT IN 2009-2010 TOYOTA RECALLED FOR ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING AND HEADLAMPS. I NEVER RECEIVED NOTIFICATIONS OF SUCH RECALLS!
I HAVE A 2005 COROLLA THAT STALLED OUT ON ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING 65 MILES AN HOUR. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD TROUBLE STARTING THE CAR, EVEN THE DAY I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT BRAND NEW. TOYOTA STATED THAT THEY DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN A WEEK AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR. SO AFTER IT STALLED I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER SHIP, WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL PUMP WENT BAD. I WAS UPSET THAT MY 4YR OLD CAR NEEDED A NEW FUEL PUMP. I WAS TOLD THAT THE COST TO REPLACE THE PUMP WAS $1500. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT TOYOTA PUT OUT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THE FAULTY PUMP, AND THEY HAD TO CHANGE THE DESIGN. SO TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS DESIGN FLAW. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A GARAGE, WHERE THEY PUT IN A USED FUEL SYSTEM FROM A JUNKED CAR. THE COST WAS ABOUT $500, SO I HOPE THAT THIS PUMP WILL LAST A FEW YEARS. *TR
THE FRONT PASSENGER AUTOMATIC WINDOW RATTLES AND SOUNDS LIKE IT IS GOING TO CRACK WHEN WINDOW IS ROLLED UP AND DOWN ON MY 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 2003-2004 TOYOTAS, BUT NOT THE 2005. THE DEALER SAID THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE WINDOW BOLT, BUT REFUSED TO REPAIR FOR FREE SINCE THE RECALL WAS FOR THE 2003-2004 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES. THE ISSUE I HAVE IS THE SAME AS DESCRIBED IN THAT RECALL NOTICE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 55 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD OFTEN STALL INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE FAILURE WAS ADDRESSED IN A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN AND THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SERVICED AND THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SHE PUT HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND PUT THE GEAR IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AS IT LUNGED BACKWARDS AND HER HEAD AND PASSENGERS HEAD JERKED BACKWARDS. CONSEQUENTLY, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO AN AUTO STOPPER. THE CONSUMER THEN PUT THE GEAR IN DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AGAIN LUNGING FORWARD AND THEN CRASHED INTO A LAWN TREE. THE PASSENGER SUFFERED A CONCUSSION AND SEAT BELT BURNS ACROSS HER CHEST AND THE CONSUMER SUFFERED FROM SEAT BELT BURNS AS WELL ACROSS HER CHEST. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO A NEARBY POLE. THE CONTACT THEN SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE THEN RAPIDLY ACCELERATED A SECOND TIME. THE VEHICLE THEN CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE CONTACT AND THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES AS A RESULT. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 56,000.
I WAS PARKING MY 05 COROLLA IN MY PRIVATE PARKING SPACE, FACING A SIDEWALL OF THE APARTMENT BUILDING IN WHICH I RESIDE. THE PARKING SPACE ALSO FACES A NARROW SIDEWALK AND AN EQUALLY NARROW GARDEN SPACE ALONGSIDE THE BUILDING. I DROVE IN SLOWLY, WHEN I WAS SUDDENLY AIRBORNE AND MANAGED TO TURN THE CAR TO MY RIGHT IN ORDER TO AVOID SMASHING INTO THE BUILDING, THE CAR MOVED ALONG IN THE ONLY SPACE POSSIBLE, LEAVING SCRAPES ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR AND ON THE BUILDING , AND ON RIGHT, DAMAGING THE FRONTS OF TWO PARKED CARS. IN ORDER TO AVOID GOING INTO THE PUBLIC SIDEWALK OR STREET, I MANAGED TO TURN THE CAR INTO A GARDEN AREA TO MY RIGHT, DOING SOME DAMAGE TO PLANTINGS, AND ENDING UP BACK IN THE PARKING AREA, FROM WHICH I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR, THIS TIME SAFELY, INTO THE PARKING SPACE. I'VE BEEN DRIVING A 2005 COROLLA CE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE A/C STOPPED WORKING. IT BLOWS WARM AIR, WARMER THEN THE AIR TEMPERATURE OF OUTSIDE. I LIVE IN THE LOWER DESERT OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHERE TEMPERATURES REACH UP TO 115 DEGREES. ACCORDING TO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN AC002-06, TOYOTA FAILED TO PROTECT THE COMPRESSOR. WITH DAILY USE, ROCKS CONTINUE TO DAMAGE THE COMPRESSOR UNTIL THE AC STOPPED WORKING. AT TIMES I FELT WEAK AFTER GETTING INTO MY CAR AFTER A DAY OF SITTING IN MY WORKS PARKING LOT. I'M EXTREMELY HOT AND HAVE HAD ONSET OF HEADACHES WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. *TR
HERE I REPORT AN ACCIDENT WHICH MAY BE CAUSED BY TOYOTA UNINTENDED ACCELERATE PROBLEM. WE BOUGHT 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA SPORT ON JULY 09, 2004. WE DRIVE 2000-3000 MILES/ PER YEAR. AS WE BOUGHT 5 YEARS PRE-PAID MAINTENANCE, WE HAVE REGULAR MAINTENANCE SERVICE WITH FAULKNER DEALER EVERY HALF YEAR UNTIL JULY 09, 2009. THERE HAS NO BIG PROBLEMS DURING THE FIRST 3-YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD EXCEPT ON AROUND SUMMER OF 2007, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND TOYOTA DEALER REPLACED THE COMPUTER CONTROL SYSTEM WITHOUT CHARGE (WE'RE NOT SURE THE REPLACED COMPUTER NAME AND WE THINK THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE RECORD). THE WEATHER CONDITION IS LIGHT-MEDIUM RAIN WHILE OUR CAR ACCIDENT HAPPENED. WHEN THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED, MY 5-YEAR OLD SON AND I WERE IN THE CAR. THE ROAD SPEED LIMIT IS 25 MILES PER HOUR, I DROVE UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT AT A LOCAL ROAD AND IT IS ABOUT 2-3 MILES DISTANCE TO OUR DESTINATION. I REMEMBERED THAT I REDUCED THE SPEED AROUND A CURVE TO TURN ON ANOTHER ROAD. SUDDENLY I HEARD A LOUD ROARING ENGINE SOUND CAME FROM INSIDE, EVEN I PRESSED AND PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR SEVERAL TIMES, BUT I FEEL THAT I STEP ON THE AIR, IT DIDN'T HELP. THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY ACCELERATED WITH THE SPEED I CAN'T CONTROL AND I LOST THE CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL, MY CAR WAS IN MALFUNCTION STATUS AND CRASHED TO THE RIGHT CURB AND THEN HIT THE BUSH WITH A HIGH SPEED AND TRAPPED IN WET MUD (THANK FOR GOD). THE ENGINE WAS STILL ROARING WITH A SCARED LOUD SOUND FOR MINUTES TILL I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND TOOK OFF THE KEY. OUR CAR WAS DAMAGED SERIOUSLY BY THIS ACCIDENT, OUR CAR INSURANCE COMPANY PAID FOR MORE THAN $7,000 FOR THE REPAIR OF THIS DAMAGE AND I PAID $1,000 FOR THIS COLLISION. WE KEPT BOTH THE POLICE AND REPAIR RECORD IN CASE YOU REQUIRED. AT THAT TIME WE DIDN'T REALIZE THIS ACCIDENT MAY BE CAUSED BY THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATE PROBLEM WHICH RECALLED . BECAUSE OUR CAR COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS REPLACED BY DEALER IN 2007, WE MAY STILL FACED THE RECALLED PROBLEM. *TR
TIRE VALVES ON ALL 4 TIRES FAILED WITHIN A 2 MONTH PERIOD. TIRES WERE YOKOHAMA AVID T4 AND WERE FITTED BY PRESTIGE TOYOTA ON DECEMBER 9, 2006. TIRE 1 FAILED ON JUNE 24TH 2008 ON GARDEN STATE PARKWAY, NJ. TIRE WAS NOT RECOVERABLE DUE TO US HAVING TO DRIVE ALMOST 1 MILE ON THE TIRE TO GET TO A SAFE AREA TO PULL OVER. IT WAS REPLACED THAT DAY MAVIS DISCOUNT TIRES IN NANUET NY. TIRE 2 FAILED ON JULY 10 ON THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE IN NJ. AS WE HAD TO DRIVE OVER THE BRIDGE TO SAFELY PULL OVER THE TIRE WAS NOT RECOVERABLE. IT WAS REPLACED NEXT DAY BY MAVIS DISCOUNT TIRES IN NANUET NY. TECHNICIAN SAID TIRE FAILED DUE TO BROKEN VALVE. TIRE 3 FAILED ON AUGUST 24 IN RIDGEWOOD NJ AFTER DRIVING FROM PHILADELPHIA TO NYC. TIRE WAS RECOVERABLE AND EXAMINED BY TECHNICIAN AT FORT LEE TIRE CENTER ON AUGUST 25TH. TECHNICIAN OBSERVED BROKEN VALVE. VALVE WAS REPLACED AND TIRE REINFLATED. TECHNICIAN ALSO INSPECTED TIRE 4 (THE LAST REMAINING GOOD TIRE). BY SLIGHTLY PRESSING ON THE VALVE IT CAME APART AND THE TIRE DEFLATED. TECHNICIAN REPLACED VALVE IMMEDIATELY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT SPORADICALLY HEARD A LOUD SQUEALING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT/ BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY FAILED. THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE $500 REPAIR COSTS. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED TSB NUMBER 02107 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:BELTS AND ASSOCIATED PULLEYS) PERTAINING TO THIS FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED 36,000 MILES, THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME ANY LIABILITY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 42,000. UPDATED 10/14/08. *LJ UPDATED 10/16/08.*JB
THE PLASTIC HEADLIGHT LENSES ARE CLOUDED AND YELLOWED AND, AS A RESULT, OBSCURES THE BRIGHTNESS AND EFFECTIVENESS OF THE HEADLIGHTS. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR DRIVING AT NIGHT AS THE HEADLIGHT IS DIMMED TO ONCOMING CARS AS WELLS AS IT LESSENS VISIBILITY FOR THE DRIVER. IT SHOULD NOT BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE VEHICLE OWNER TO HAVE THE HEADLIGHT LENSES REPLACED WHEN THE CLOUDINESS COULD BE DUE TO POSSIBLE DEFECTIVE MATERIALS AS THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED TO ANY OTHER CAR THAT I'VE OWNED AND ANY THAT BELONG TO OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS. THE LENSES HAVE GRADUALLY CLOUDED STARTING ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. *TR
I BOUGHT MY CAR IN 2004 BRAND NEW ZERO MILEAGES ON IT. IT IS TOYOTA COROLLA 2005. I NEVER HAD ANY FRONT END ACCIDENT. PROBLEM IS THE ORIGINAL COLOR OF MY CAR IS COMING OUT. IT STARTS COMING OFF FROM FRONT. I THINK IT HAD PAINT DEFECT. PAINT IS COMING OFF FROM DIFFERENT SIDES OF THE FRONT. THE ORIGINAL COLOR IS GRAY AND NOW SOME PARTS ARE COMING WHITE. I DONT KNOW WHAT DO TO BECAUSE IT LOOKS UGLY AND I NEVER WANTED MY CAR TO BE LIKE THIS.
A/C CONDENSER WHICH WENT OUT ON MONDAY. I'VE DISCOVERED THAT TOYOTA ISSUED TSB AC002-06 ADMITTING THAT THE CONDENSER IS FLAWED. HOWEVER, BECAUSE IT WAS NOT RECALLED, THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE. I AM HAVING IT REPAIRED BECAUSE I LIVE IN NEW ORLEANS AND THE HEAT IS UNBEARABLE. THIS IS A TOTALLY UNFAIR PRACTICE. I THINK THAT THESE ISSUES SHOULD BE ILLEGAL SINCE THEY'VE ADMITTED THE FLAW. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO PROTECTION FOR THE NEW CONDENSER. IT WAS CORRECTED IN THE 2007 MODEL BUT NOT THE 2005. I AM LIVID AT THE FACT THAT TOYOTA IS SO UNCARING ABOUT THE 2005 OWNERS. I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIR ($677) AND, ALSO, ADVISED AS TO HOW I CAN PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. WHERE CAN I FIND MESH TO PROTECT THE NEW CONDENSER? *TR

I OWNED A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA IT WAS WRECKED IN MAY OF 2009 THE STEERING AND BRAKES LOCKED UP ON THE CAR I TOLD MY INSURANCE COMPANY WHAT HAPPENED BUT THEY DID NOT CHECK INTO IT . AUTO REPAIR SHOP INFORMED ME THAT I NEEDED A FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT, WHICH IS STRANGE, SINCE MY 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA IS JUST BARELY 3 AND 1/2 YEARS OLD. COME TO FIND OUT, WHEN THEY WENT TO ORDER THE PART, THEY SAID IT WOULD COST 3 TIMES THE NORMAL AMOUNT FOR A TOYOTA COROLLA FUEL PUMP BECAUSE MINE HAPPEN TO BE MADE IN A BATCH DURING A 3 MONTH PERIOD IN WHICH THEY NO LONGER MADE THAT SAME SORT OF FUEL PUMP. I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT UP WITH MY MAINTENANCE CHECKS, SO THIS FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT SEEMS LIKE IT WAS BOUND TO HAPPEN NO MATTER HOW WELL I TOOK CARE OF MY CAR. WHICH INFORMS AN OWNER THAT THEIR A/C CONDENSER IS UNPROTECTED WHICH WILL COST THEM $590. HOWEVER, TOYOTA FAILED TO BACK THEIR PRODUCT UP BY REIMBURSING IT. THIS IS SAFETY HAZARD IN THE SOUTHWEST BECAUSE OF THE EXTREME HEAT AND IF SOMEONE WITH CHILDREN GOES TO TURN THEIR AIR CONDITIONING ON AND IT DOES NOT WORK THIS POSES HEALTH RISKS. *TR

ABOUT 600 FEET AHEAD THERE WAS A YELLOWING STOPLIGHT AND TWO CARS SLOWING DOWN NEARING THE STOPLIGHT. I PUT ON THE BRAKES NORMALLY AS I THOUGHT THERE WAS PLENTY OF SPACE TO COME TO A STOP HOWEVER IT FELT LIKE INSTEAD OF SLOWING THE CAR SUPRISINGLY SPED UP AND INSTANTLY I WAS SMELLING GUNPOWDER AFTER A SHARP PAINFUL JARRING SMACK. THE AIRBAGS HAD DEPLOYED AND WAS A RIPPED UP MESS FROM MY STEERING WHEEL. I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND WAS SO DAZED AND SHOCKED AND MY WRIST HAD SHATTERED REQUIRING REPARATIVE SURGERY AND REHABILITATION HOWEVER IT'S STILL NOT OK. I WAS EXITING A RESTAURANT WAITING TO TURN RIGHT ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. WHILE SITTING THERE WITH THE CAR IN DRIVE AND MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED RACING. THERE ARE ITEMS LISTED FOR THE CLUTCH THAT IS COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. WHEN I CALLED ABOUT THE WARRANTY (PURCHASED THROUGH TOYOTA) THEY STATED THAT NOTHING WAS COVERED. WHICH I DON'T UNDERSTAND. SO I'M GETTING THE RUN AROUND & THE WHOLE AMOUNT IS GOING TO BE PUT ME REGARDLESS. WHICH IS UNFAIR. IT HAS NEVER BEEN HARD TO SHIFT INTO GEARS, BUT FOR THE PAST WEEKS WHEN YOU GO INTO 5TH & 6TH GEAR (THERE WAS NO GRIDING SOUND AS IF IT HAD PROBLEMS GOING INTO GEAR), THE CAR SEEM AS IF IT WAS UNABLE TO PICK UP SPEED & WHEN YOU PRESSED ON THE GAS THE MOTOR JUST SOUNDED LOUDER & THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL.
MALFUNCTION WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IT WAS STICKING AS I WAS ON A HIGHWAY DOING 50 MILES AND HOUR. IT INCREASED TO 70 MILES AN HOUR, AT WHICH TIME I APPLIED BRAKES AND THEY DID NOT WORK I HAD TO PULL OVER TO SHOULDER AND WAS DRIVING DOWN SHOULDER WHERE I PUT CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND APPLIED THE BRAKES PUT CAR INTO PARK THEN CAR FINALLY STOPPED. *TR
I HAVE ENCOUNTERED WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE A MAJOR MANUFACTURING ERROR. MY VEHICLE'S ENGINE PRODUCES A VERY LARGE AND INSTANTANEOUS INCREASE IN HORSEPOWER (A 'SURGE') AT 6800 RPM (DUE TO A 'CAM SWITCHOVER'). I HAVE OBSERVED DYNAMOMETER READOUTS WHICH PLACE THIS JUMP AT AROUND 40HP. BECAUSE OF THIS STRANGE AND INSTANTANEOUS JUMP IN HORSEPOWER, DURING SLIPPERY CONDITIONS, OR ON ROADS WITH DEBRIS SUCH AS SAND OR GRAVEL, THE CAR WOULD, WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING, LOSE TRACTION WHEN IT HIT THIS POWER SURGE 'POINT'. I AM WELL AWARE THE XRS IS A PERFORMANCE TYPE VEHICLE, AND ENJOY IT WHEN ROAD CONDITIONS ARE PERFECT, YET IT CAUSES ME GREAT DISCOMFORT TO KNOW THAT MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY DURING RAIN OR SNOW (OR WITH SAND OR GRAVEL ON THE ROAD SURFACE) MAY MEAN AN ABRUPT LOSS IN TRACTION LEADING TO A CRASH, INJURY, OR WORSE. I HAVE PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED SOME VERY UNNERVING NEAR-ACCIDENTS DUE TO THE ENGINE'S BIZARRE POWER DELIVERY. STRANGELY ENOUGH, MY RESEARCH INDICATES THAT PREVIOUS ITERATIONS OF THE SAME ENGINE PRODUCED BY TOYOTA HAVE THE 'CAM SWITCHOVER POINT' PLACED MUCH LOWER IN THE RPM RANGE, LEADING TO A MUCH SMOOTHER POWER DELIVERY (WHICH I BELIEVE IS SAFER AND MORE PREDICTABLE). I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES, ONCE THROUGH MAIL AND TWICE BY PHONE, ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THE REPRESENTATIVES I TALKED WITH COULD/WOULD NOT ANSWER MY QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, AS WELL AS REFUSING TO ADMIT TO A PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR SPECIAL EDITION CAR. WITH WINTER APPROACHING, I'M NOT WAITING TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT TO REPORT THIS MANUFACTURER ERROR, ESPECIALLY SO SINCE TOYOTA HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. *TR
