TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR IS BEING MOVED, THE WINDOW INSIDE THE DOOR RATTLES AND SLIGHTLY MOVES. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES BEFOREHAND. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 43,000. UPDATED 09/02/09.*JB
DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT HAS DEVELOPED AN ANNOYING KNOCKING NOISE THAT OCCURS MOST OFTEN WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. DEALER WAS INFORMED AND WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE NOISE. DEALER REPLACED ENTIRE SEAT FRAME AND TRACKS BUT PROBLEM RECURRED MONTHS LATER. DEALER HAS REPLACED FRAME AND TRACKS AGAIN. BUT THIS TIME THERE IS EXCESSIVE FREE PLAY OCCURRING ALONG THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SEAT BECAUSE THE TRACK LATCH DOES NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY. MAJOR HEADACHE. *TR
A/C CONDENSER FAILURE. DESIGN FAILURE. HAD TO REPLACE UNIT TWICE BEFORE I MADE MY OWN SHIELD.. NO HELP FROM DEALER. YOU WOULD THINK THAT IF THEY HAD A DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND FIXED IT ON THE NEXT YEARS MODEL THAT THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF ANY PRIOR COMPLAINTS.. JUST SHOWS THAT SERVICE AND CUSTOMER RETENTION IS NOT PART OF THEIR CREED. MY RECOMMENDATION TO MY FRIENDS HAS THIS STORY WITH IT NOW THAT I KNOW THAT OTHERS ARE IN THE SAME SITUATION. GOOD LUCK. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHEN PURCHASING THE VEHICLE ON MARCH 23, 2007 THE CONTACT WAS INSTRUCTED TO COLLECT THE KEYS THE FOLLOWING WEEK. THE NEXT WEEK,THE CONTACT WAS TOLD TO PURCHASE THE KEYS FOR $200.00. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 35,000.*AK THE CONSUMER STATES WHEN PURCHASING VEHICLE THE DEALER NEVER PROVIDED HER WITH THE MASTER KEY TO THE VEHICLE, SHE WAS INSTRUCTED BY ALFREDO AT THE DEALERSHIP TO PICK THE KEY UP A WEEK LATER. AFTER 10 DAYS, THE CONSUMER DID NOT FEEL SAFE AND DID NOT TRUST THE DEALER. THE CONSUMER HAD THE KEY REPROGRAMMED FOR SAFETY REASONS. THE DEALER STATES DRIVER'S WINDOW MOLDING AND COMING APART, THE DEALER CHECKED AND ADVISED WILL CALL WHEN SPECIAL ORDER PART COMES IN. THE CONSUMER HAS PROVIDED A COPY OF THE INVOICE. I BOUGHT TOYOTA COROLLA LE 2005 IN MARCH 2005 AT THAT TIME I GOT 3 YEAR WARRANTY/36,000 MILES AND THE AUTOMOBILE HAS 36,800 MILES AND IT IS ALREADY OUT OF WARRANTY. ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2007 AT 9:00 AM SOMETHING UNUSUAL HAPPENED TO MY CAR. I WOKE UP AROUND 8 :00 AM IN THE MORNING AND THEN I DECIDED TO BUY SOMETHING FROM THE MARKET FOR MY BREAKFAST AND WENT TO THE GARAGE AND LOOKING AT MY CAR I DISCOVERED THAT THE RIGHT SIDE WINDOW GLASS WAS BROKEN INTO THOUSANDS OF PIECES. FORTUNATELY MY FAMILY AND I WERE NOT INSIDE THE CAR AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT OTHERWISE WE WOULD HAVE BE HURT BY THOSE GLASS. NOW I AM SCARED OF TAKING MY SON AND WIFE INTO THE CAR BECAUSE THE OTHER GLASS MAY SHATTER AND HURT ME AN M Y FAMILY. DRIVING THIS VEHICLE IS PUTTING MY FAMILY AND ME IN DANGER OF BEING HARMED BY THE GLASS BECAUSE THE GLASS CAME WITH A DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I HAVE GONE TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN PERSON TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE IT WITH A NEW GLASS. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER OF TOYOTA AND THEY DO NOT EVEN WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE IT. I THINK MOST OF THESE MODELS WINDOW GLASS COMES WITH A DEFECT SO I WOULD LIKE YOU TO TAKE A TEST IN THE LAB AND ASK THE MANUFACTURER TO REPLACE THE WINDOWS OF MY CAR. I AM REPORTING AND MAKING A COMPLAINT TO PROTECT THE CONSUMERS AND ME SO I WOULD LIKE YOU TO TAKE ANY ACTIONS AGAINST THIS MANUFACTURER. PLEASE THINK OF MY SON AND WIFE BECAUSE THIS IS THE ONLY VEHICLE THAT I HAVE TO TRANSPORT THEM TO DIFFERENT PLACES. RIGHT NOW I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THINKING THAT ANY TIME THIS WILL BREAK AND HURT ME. WE BOUGHT A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA IN JULY OF 2004. WE HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH THE WAY THE CAR RUNS MECHANICALLY NEVER HAVING ANY ISSUES. OUR VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT 40,310 AND WE ARE EXPERIENCING A FAILURE WITH THE CHARCOAL CANISTER. IN ORDER TO PASS EMISSIONS FOR THE STATE OF NC WE HAVE TO REPLACE THIS PARTICULAR PART. SINCE OUR CAR IS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER OUR BASIC 3 YEAR, 36,000 MILE WARRANTY WE ARE HAVING TO REPLACE THIS PART ON OUR OWN. THIS IS VERY DISCOURAGING SINCE OUR VEHICLE IS ONLY 4,000 MILES OVER OUR BASIC WARRANTY COVERAGE. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED WITH MANY OTHER TOYOTA COROLLA VEHICLES AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE. WE FEEL THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO BECAUSE IT SEEMS ODD THAT THE CHARCOAL CANISTER FAILS AROUND THIS MILE MARKER IN NUMEROUS VEHICLES. THIS IS A COMPONENT OF THE CAR THE CONTRIBUTES TO KEEPING OUR AIR CLEAN. TOYOTA IS FAILING TO PROVIDE A CAR THAT WILL DO SO. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 1-65 MPH, THE BRAKES LOCK UP. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS RELEASED, IT FEELS AS IF THE BRAKE PEDAL IS BEING DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC ON FOUR OCCASIONS. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT TIRE BEGAN SMOKING AND WAS VERY HOT. THE ROTORS WERE TURNED AND THEN REPLACED. THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE ONCE AND STATED THAT THE RUBBER BRAKE HOSE WAS DETERIORATED. THE RUBBER BRAKE HOSE WAS REPLACED, BUT THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 124,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000. UPDATED 01/29/08 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE LEFT FRONT ROTOR AND PADS WERE REPLACED AGAIN. UPDATED
HI, I SEE MY 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA FAILED IN THE GOVERNMENT CRASH COMPLIANCE TEST (FRONTAL CRASH, FMVSS208), AND PASSED AGAIN WITH A MY 2006 ONE. I GUESS THAT MEANS TOYOTA UPDATED A PART OR PARTS OF MY 2005 COROLLA, BUT I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT HAS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA WITH AN ODOMETER READING OF 45000 MILES AND HAD AIR BAG PROBLEMS. ON 9-9-06 THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS IN A CRASH, IT HAD BEEN RAINING AND SHE WAS DRIVING AT 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE HYDROPLANED, AND HIT A JERSEY WALL TWICE, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON 12-15-06 SHE WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN SHE HIT A DOG ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE,. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, BUT DID NOT INFLATE, AND THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE POLICE WERE AT BOTH CRASH SCENES AND TOOK REPORTS. ALSO, TOOK PICTURES. THERE WERE NO INJURIES A RESULT OF THE CRASH. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE. MORE PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AND AFTER A FEW MOMENTS THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND INJECTORS WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS THE RESULT OF A FAILED ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V384000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE FINAL FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA WITH 19000 FAILURE MILEAGE AT 25 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN INTO A PARKING SPACE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. THE VEHICLE SHOOK, AND THEN IT COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE 3 TIMES, BUT HE VEHICLE DID NOT START. ON THE FOURTH ATTEMPT THE VEHICLE STARTED AND WAS DRIVEN INTO A PARKING SPACE. TOYOTA TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. TOYOTA DETERMINED THAT THE EMC WAS DEFECTIVE, AND THEY OFFERED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ON DECEMBER 17, 2006 AND HAD NOT EXPERIENCED THE LOCKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL SINCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19700.*AK
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE 210 FWY GOING EAST. I WAS DRIVING IN THE FAST LANE AND THERE WAS A BIG RIG TO THE RIGHT OF MY VEHICLE TRAVELING IN THE SAME DIRECTION. OUT OF NO WHERE MY CAR BEGAN FISH TAILING. I WAS FIGHTING HARD WITH MY STEERING WHEEL AS TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH THE BIG RIG NEXT TO ME. I NEARLY REGAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND AGAIN OUT OF NO WHERE MY CAR BEGAN FISH TAILING VIOLENTLY WORSE THAN BEFORE. AT THAT TIME I WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR. MY STEERING WHEEL PULLED HARD TO THE LEFT, SPINNING MY CAR AROUND INTO THE CARPOOL LANE IMPACTING THE FRONT RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE INTO THE CENTER DIVIDER AND BOUNCING OFF CAUSING THE REAR OF MY CAR TO SWING AND HIT THE CENTER DIVIDER A SECOND TIME . THE CAR THEN CAME TO A STOP LEAVING MY CAR FACING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO GET ACROSS THE LANES AND PULL MY CAR OFF OF THE FREEWAY. AS THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE INVOLVED A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED SINCE THE DAMAGES WERE TOO EXTENT FOR THE CAR TO DRIVE. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANOTHER OCCURRENCE OF THE CAR FISHTAILING OUT OF CONTROL WITH NO EXPLANATION. DAMAGES TO THE VEHICLE WERE REPAIRED THROUGH THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *TR
THE 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA HAS A DEFECTIVE TEMPERATURE CONTROL SYSTEM IN THAT WHENEVER THE VEHICLE'S AIR CONDITIONING ACTIVATES OR WHILE ON THE TWO DEFROST SETTINGS ARE ON, AT IDLE SPEEDS THE VEHICLE SURGES OR ACCELERATES FORWARD TO THE EXTENT IT OVERRIDES THE BRAKING ACTION AT A STOPPED POSITION. *NM
I OWN A 05 COROLLA XRS. I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH METAL TEARING ISSUES. FIRST ONE WAS THE MUFFLER BRACKET TORE OFF AND SO MY MUFFLER WAS JUST HANGING THERE. I HAD THAT WELDED AT A MUFFLER SHOP AND IT HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR NOW. SECOND IS MY TRUNK LATCH, THIS IS THE PART THAT IS BOLTED TO THE BODY OF THE CAR THAT THE TRUNK LATCHES ONTO. THIS PIECE HAS COMPLETELY TORE OUT OF THE BODY, IT HAS BEEN REWELDED A FEW TIMES BUT IT CAN'T BE WELDED ANYMORE. I KEEP IT TIED CLOSED AND CAN'T USE MY TRUNK. NOW TODAY 9-26-2007 IS THE LAST DRAW, THE MUFFLER BRACKET HAS COMPLETELY BROKE IN HALF AND NOT WERE IT WAS WELDED. I FEEL THIS IS A VERY CHEAPLY MADE CAR AND WILL NEVER BUY A TOYOTA AGAIN. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND THE DEALER TELLS ME IT I OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY DON'T WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, I KEEP GETTING TOLD TO SEE A BODY SHOP. I DON'T HAVE $1,000.00 TO REPLACE THE REAR PANEL OF MY CAR EVERY TIME THE TRUNK LATCH DECIDES TO TEAR OUT OF THE BODY BECAUSE THE METAL IS TO THIN. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS SOON AS THE DRIVER SEAT BELT WAS BUCKLED. THEN, WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH THE SIDE OF A DUMP TRUCK AND NEITHER FRONTAL AIR BAG DEPLOYED. HOWEVER THE LEFT SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH AND WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD. THE CONTACT WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT AT THAT TIME OF THE CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED. UPDATED 09/19/06. *JB
IN JUNE 2006 THE BRAKES ON THE 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA SUDDENLY FELT LOOSE, BUT THEY WORKED ,AND A MECHANIC FOUND NO PROBLEM. I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES WERE DRAGGING AND REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT BEFORE I COULD GO IN FOR SERVICE THE BRAKES LOCKED IN DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS DURING RUSH HOUR. I GOT MY CAR TO A NEARBY SERVICE STATION AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND OTHER WORN-OUT PARTS. THE CAR WAS FINE FOR A FEW WEEKS, I SUBMITTED THE BRAKE WORK UNDER MY WARRANTY, THEN THE BRAKES BEGAN DRAGGING AGAIN. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY DEALERSHIP, THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM, AND TOYOTA DENIED MY CLAIM UNDER THE THEORY THAT "BRAKES AREN'T COVERED." I THINK MY MASTER CYLINDER MALFUNTIONS WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS HIGH. TOYOTA HAS NO RESPONSE TO THE PROBLEM OF MY BRAKES DRAGGING AND LOCKING UP, OTHER THAN TO BLAME ME. *AK
AT 53,000 MILES, FUEL PUMP WENT OUT AT AN ABSURD PRICE OF $771.00 AFTER BEING STUCK ON THE ROAD I HAD TO CALL A TOW
MY COROLLA STALLED IN A FLOODED STREET THAT WAS VISIBLY PASSABLE FOR OTHER VEHICLES, BOTH SMALL AND LARGE. AS A RESULT OF THE EXPOSURE TO THE WATER, THE CAR EXPERIENCED A MAJOR ENGINE FAILURE. DURING A DISCUSSION WITH A REPRESENTATIVE AT THE DEALERSHIP, I LEARNED THAT THE AIR-IN-TAKE SYSTEM IS LOCATED RELATIVELY LOW TO THE GROUND "ON THE BUMPER." THIS SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW WHICH COULD LEAD TO THE CAR FAILING TO PERFORM DURING RELATIVELY MINOR FLOODING CONDITIONS. *JB
MY 2005 COROLLA MAKES A NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE AN ARMY HELICOPTER IS RIGHT ABOVE THE CAR WHEN THE RIGHT REAR WINDOW IS ROLLED DOWN. IF IT IS ON THE HIGHWAY THE SOUND BECOMES UNBEARABLE. THE SOUND WILL DISAPPEAR IF ANOTHER WINDOW IS OPENED AT LEAST 4-6 INCHES. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT 15 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A BUILDING AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD, LEG, KNEE, TEETH AND CHEST INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTO BODY REPAIR CENTER AND REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V350000 (AIR BAGS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. CONSUMER STATES AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING ACCIDENT. CONSUMER REQUESTS AN INVESTIGATION OF 2005 COROLLA DESIGN FLAWS. *TGW THE TOYOTA RESPONDED TO THE CONSUMER BY WRITING; THE ACCIDENT DID NOT FALL WITHIN THE PARAMETERS FOR DEPLOYMENT. THE TYPE OF INJURIES THE CONSUMER SUSTAINED WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN PREVENTED BY THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG. A BROKEN STERNUM AND RIB WAS A COMMON INJURY SUSTAINED BY AN OCCUPANT WHEN THE SEAT BELT LOCKS UP AND RESTRAINS THEM. *JB
DRIVERS SEAT SHIFTS WHEN ACCELERATING AND APPLYING BRAKES - IT BEGAN WHEN THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 7,500 MILES ON IT. I'VE HAD THE SEAT ASSEMBLY REPLACED BY TOYOTA THREE TIMES. A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED IN 2007 AND IT WAS THEN REPLACED FOR THE FOURTH TIME. THE ISSUE STILL EXISTS AND TOYOTA TOLD ME THEY WON'T FIX IT ANYMORE. I AM A LOYAL TOYOTA OWNER BUT THIS JUST MIGHT CHANGE MY MIND. *TR
WARM ENGINE STARTING: I BOUGHT A NEW 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA LE FROM FUNKS TOYOTA, MANITOBA, CANADA. ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS A LOT OF CRANKING IS REQUIRED BEFORE THE CAR STARTS WHEN THE ENGINE IS WARM. A NUMBER OF OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS REPORTED ON VARIOUS FORUMS ON THE INTERNET. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE INCIDENTS. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS JUST NORMAL TO CRANK FOR LONGER PERIOD OCCASIONALLY. *NM
I OWN A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA WHICH WAS PURCHASED CERTIFIED USED AT 21,000 MILES. SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AT LEAST 7 TIMES FOR AN ALIGNMENT. THE CAR PULLS TO THE RIGHT AND SOMETIMES TO THE LEFT, BETWEEN 40 TO 65 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. UPON INSPECTION, THEY DID CONFIRM THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL. THE MECHANIC REMOVED THE FRONT WHEELS AND FOUND THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE PADS DISCOLORED AND THE ROTORS WERE DEEPLY SCORED FROM THE HEAT. THE BRAKE BOOSTER PUSH ROD WERE FOUND PROTRUDING INTO THE BRAKE MASTER AND THE ISSUE WAS WITH THE CALIPER . ON OCT 21, 2005 THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE AGAIN. *JB
