TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS EXHIBITING AN ABNORMAL GROWLING NOISE. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V384000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE DEALER ADVISED THAT HE WOULD RECEIVE A SECOND NOTIFICATION WHEN THE PARTS NEEDED FOR RECALL REPAIRS HAD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD PROGRESS AND AFFECT OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE OR THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL BEFORE HE WAS ABLE TO HAVE THE RECALL REPAIRS PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLES THAT WERE ON THE ASSEMBLY LINE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIRS FIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED TIME FRAME OF WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,400. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AND GASKET. UPDATED 04/29/11
2007 TOYOTA COROLLA SUDDENLY STALLED. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM IT APPEARS TO BE A BAD ECM WHICH APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR TOYOTA COROLLAS BETWEEN THE YEARS 05 2005-2007. THIS IS POTENTIALLY A DANGEROUS SITUATION SINCE THE CAR JUST DIES. MANY FORUMS HAVE STATED THAT THEY WERE FORTUNATE THAT THEY WERE NOT REAR ENDED. SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL THIS ITEM AND AVOID POTENTIAL HARM TO THE CONSUMER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACTS DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING 60 MPH IN RAINY WEATHER. WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THEY DID NOT RESPOND, AND CONSEQUENTLY SHE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELTS FAILED TO RESTRAIN HER. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SEVERAL LACERATIONS TO THE HEAD AS WELL AS SEVERAL BRUISES AND BODY SWELLING. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE DEALER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 29,500. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V384000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER THE RECALL, THE CONTACT NOTICED THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND A VIBRATION IN THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED PRIOR TO THE RECALL REPAIR THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK IN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING NOR WAS IT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
AFTER PULLING ALONG SIDE OF PARKED VEHICLES AND COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STEER THE VEHICLE BACK INTO A STREET PARKING SPACE THE VEHICLE SELF ACCELERATED BACKWARDS AND SIDESWIPED A PARKED VEHICLE, CROSSED THE SIDEWALK HITTING A PEDESTRIAN TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 30 FEET CRASHED THROUGH AN IRON FENCE AND SLAMMED INTO A BUILDING. THIS ALL OCCURRED IN LESS THAN 15 SECONDS. *TR
THE POWER DIED WHEN I WAS ON A VERY BUSY THOROUGHFARE AT RUSH HOUR. I HAD TO CROSS SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC AND WAS BARELY ABLE TO CRAWL TO THE SHOULDER. I WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THE ENGINE COMPUTER MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE. I UNDERSTAND TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT HAS YET TO GIVE RECALL DETAILS TO THEIR CUSTOMERS OR TO THEIR DEALERSHIPS. WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR? I COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR CAUSED ONE. IF TOYOTA WON'T MOVE ON THEIR OWN, PLEASE FORCE THEM TO ACT. LIVES ARE AT RISK!
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON 11/14/10 AND CAR STARTED SLAM SHIFTING, AND DIED ON FREEWAY. THE CAR STARTED AGAIN, AND I TOOK IT TO XX IN MORENO VALLEY NEXT DAY. DEALER SAID FAULTY ECU (DTC P2716) AND THE PART MUST BE ORDERED. I ASKED IF THEY COULD PROVIDE A LOANER CAR BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE CAR WITH A FAULTY ECM. I WAS TOLD PART WILL MOST LIKELY BE IN TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY. THE DEALER SAID A LOANER CAR WOULD NOT BE PROVIDED UNLESS THE CAR TOTALLY STOP OPERATING. I LIVE IN SAN BERNARDINO AND WORK IN MORENO VALLEY, APPROX 26 MILES ONE WAY. I HAVE AAA TOWING BASIC FOR 6 MILES. I WOULD USUALLY PURCHASE AAA SOUTHERN CA AUTOMOBILE CLUB TOWING FOR UP TO 100 MILES, BUT BECAUSE I BOUGHT A NEW RELIABLE TOYOTA, I JUST GOT THE BASIC TOWING IN CASE THE BATTERY DIED. I DON'T HAVE TOWING TO GET THE CAR TO MORENO VALLEY IN CASE IT COMPLETELY STOPS RUNNING. I'M WORRIED ABOUT SAFETY AND LOGISTICS! I DON'T TRUST THIS TOYOTA COROLLA. DEALER WILL NOT KEEP THE CAR AND GIVE ME A LOANER UNTIL THE PART ARRIVES. WILL TOYOTA BE RESPONSIBLE IF THIS CAR STALLS AGAIN IN TRAFFIC AND CAUSES AN ACCIDENT? WILL TOYOTA BE RESPONSIBLE IF THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER? WILL TOYOTA BE RESPONSIBLE IF THE TRANSMISSION BECOMES DAMAGED FROM THE HARD SHIFTING? WILL TOYOTA BE RESPONSIBLE IF THE CAR CATCHES FIRE FROM FAULTY ELECTRICAL WIRING? THIS COROLLA HAS HAD BRAKE AND STEERING PROBLEMS. BRAKE FLUID ALWAYS LOW, ALTHOUGH BRAKES VERIFIED AS REPAIRED AND OKAY BY TECHNICIAN. THE WHEEL BEARING ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL IS GOING BAD AND THE TIRE WILL NOT HOLD AIR. THE TIRE HAS BEEN EXAMINED AND IS GOOD. I SMELL ELECTRICAL BURNING ONCE IN AWHILE. THE BELT TENSIONER PULLEY BEARING BAD. OCCASIONALLY, SMELL ANTIFREEZE, WHICH INDICATES A LEAKING HEAD GASKET. WIND NOISE, WINDOWS CREAK WHEN MOVED UP/DOWN. THE LOCKS SQUEAK. THE INTERIOR RATTLES. THE PAINT JOB IS RUNNY, WELD POINTS ARE SLOPPY. CAR STALLING, SLAM SHIFTING, THEN CUTTING OFF. THE CAR HAS A LITTLE OVER 50,000 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE ENGINE RACED WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS BEING DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT; THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE AND THE RPMS INCREASED. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN, IT PERFORMED CORRECTLY. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 25,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT HAD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT INTO PARK WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE WENT OVER A CURB, THROUGH BUSHED AND HIT THE FRONT OF A BUILDING. THE RPMS DECREASED AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT WAS AWAITING INSPECTION BY AN INVESTIGATOR SENT BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 36,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED. THE SIMILAR FAILURE RECURRED ON A DIFFERENT OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO GENERATE A TROUBLE CODE HOWEVER, FURTHER INSPECTION WAS BEING PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
1. PULLED UP TO A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT AND STOPPED 2. CAR STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. CALLED A WRECKER TO TOW CAR TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. TRAFFIC WAS BLOCKED FOR AROUND 30 MINUTES. WE WERE IN DANGER OF BEING REAR ENDED THE ENTIRE TIME. 3. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SAID THE ECU HAD FAILED AND THEY INSTALLED A NEW ONE. *TR

2007 TOYOTA COROLLA S SMOKES DUE TO OIL SLUDGE, VEHICLE SMOKES WHEN FIRST STARTING AND PERIODICALLY DURING THE DAY. I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE WAS SLUDGED DUE TO POOR MAINTENANCE, IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THERE ARE 3245 OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS WHO WERE TOLD THE SAME THING, "HOW CAN THIS BE TRUE" ? THIS CLEARLY LOOKS TO BE A DEFECT THAT TOYOTA DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR, AND THIS LOOKS TO BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR TOYOTA OWNERS. I HEARD OF ENGINES FAILING BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE, AND REPORT OF FIRES AND ENGINES SEIZING WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS, AND TOYOTA WILL DO NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY ARE NOT HONORING THAT WARRANTY. *TR
MY VEHICLE BECOMES DISABLED WHILE IN MOTION, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BECOMES ILLUMINATED AND THE ACCELERATOR STOPS RESPONDING. TO AVOID DANGER I AM FORCED TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY OR COAST TO A STOP AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES, OFTEN HAVING TO WAIT SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE IT BECOMES OPERATIONAL AGAIN. THE PROBLEM IS INCREASING IN SEVERITY AND HAS GOTTEN TO A POINT WHERE THE CAR IS A HAZARD AND THEREFORE IS OF NO USE UNTIL IT IS FIXED. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVERY 20-30 MILES FOR THE LAST 6 MONTHS OR SO, BUT ONE TIME THE CAR WAS ABLE TO TRAVEL 150 MILES WITHOUT AN ISSUE, WHILE OTHER TIMES IT WILL STALL AND THEN STALL AGAIN NO MORE THAN A MILE LATER. THE CAR HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY RECALLED FOR SAFETY REASONS BY TOYOTA, BUT THE DEALERSHIP HAS REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM, INSISTING THAT THE RECALL DOES NOT APPLY. THE RECALL: "THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) FOR CERTAIN 2005 THROUGH 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA AND COROLLA MATRIX MODELS EQUIPPED WITH THE 1ZZ-FE ENGINE AND TWO-WHEEL DRIVE MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT A CRACK MAY DEVELOP AT CERTAIN SOLDER POINTS OR ON VARISTORS ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD. IN MOST CASES, IF A CRACK OCCURS AT CERTAIN POINTS OR ON CERTAIN VARISTORS, THE ENGINE WARNING LAMP COULD BE ILLUMINATED, HARSH SHIFTING COULD RESULT, OR THE ENGINE MAY NOT START. IN LIMITED INSTANCES, IF CRACKING OCCURS ON PARTICULAR SOLDER POINTS OR VARISTORS, THE ENGINE COULD STOP WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." THE DEALER INSISTS THAT MY CAR STALLS BECAUSE OF A DIFFERENT PART, THE THROTTLE, AND THEY ARE TRYING TO CHARGE ME MORE THAN $1000 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A CATASTROPHIC COMPUTER FAILURE HAD OCCURRED. THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED UNDER WARRANTY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING A VERY LOW SPEED WITH PRESSURE BEING APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL INVOLUNTARILY DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD. SHE APPLIED HEAVY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO LUNGE FORWARD CAUSING A CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED AND TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO A HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN PULLING TO THE RIGHT FORCING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO SOME SHRUBS IN ORDER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP WHICH CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE BODY SHOP AND REPAIRED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT INVESTIGATED. THE MANUFACTURER WILL BE CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 39,000. UPDATED 1/19/2010 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED AS SHE NEARED A CURVE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. TO AVOID CRASHING INTO A BANK OF TREES, SHE QUICKLY VEERED TO THE RIGHT OF A FIELD. THE VEHICLE CAME TO REST AFTER SHE RAN INTO SOME SHRUBS, DAMAGING MOSTLY THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 04/20/11 THE CONSUMER STATED SHE RECEIVED A CLASS ACTION CHECK FOR $157.00 AS COMPENSATION. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED HER VEHICLE WAS PART OF A COVER-UP. UPDATED 04/02/14
IN MARCH 2007, I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW TOYOTA COROLLA. MORE THAN THREE MONTHS AGO MY CAR STARTED HAVING MAJOR PROBLEMS WHEN I TRY TO TURN TO CAR ON. FIRST THE CAR ENGINE DID NOT TURN ON RIGHT AWAY, SO I HAD TO KEEP TRYING TO TURN IT ON, THEN THE CAR DID NOT TURN ON AT ALL. I GOT STOCK AT THE SUPERMARKET PARKING LOT ONE DAY BECAUSE THE CAR WAS DEAD. I TOOK IT TO HAVE A BATTERY CHECK AND THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE BATTERIES OF THE CAR WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, SO THE PROBLEM WAS THE ENGINE OF THE CAR. COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER, I RECEIVED A LETTER BY TOYOTA EXPLAINING ME THAT THEY RECALLED MY CAR WITH A MAJOR PROBLEM IN THE ENGINE, THE LETTER STATED THAT I NEEDED TO BE CAREFUL BECAUSE MY CAR ENGINE CAN TURN OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER TO HAVE THEN CHECK THE CAR, AND THEY DID NOT EVEN TOUCH MY CAR, THEY TOLD ME THAT WHEN MY CAR TURN OFF AGAIN, TO CALL THEM OR HAVE MY CAR TOLL TO THEIR PLACE. TWO DAYS AFTER I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE CAR STARTED HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. IT MAKES A WEAR SOUND WHEN I PUT MY KEYS IN THE ENGINE AND TRY TO TURN THE CAR ON. I TAKE ANY TRIES BEFORE THE CAR TURN ON, SO I CALLED TOYOTAS CORPORATE NUMBER AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND IT DID IT; HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT EVEN TOUCH MY CAR. THEY LEAVED PARKED ON A SIDE OF THE LOT AND THEY WAITED MORE THAN TWO HOURS TO TELL ME AGAIN THAT I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE CAR DOES NOT TURN ON AGAIN SO THEY CAN TAKE A LOOK OF THE ENGINE. THEY TOLD ME THAT TOYOTA IS WORKING ON A RESOLUTION FOR MY PROBLEM AND BY THE END OF NOVEMBER, I WILL GET A SECOND LETTER FROM TOYOTA STATING THE SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM AND TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SO THEY CAN FIX IN. TODAY IS DECEMBER 14, 2010 AND I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY OTHER COMMUNICATION FROM TOYOTA. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN MY CAR BECAUSE I HAVE TO KIDS AND I'M AFRAID THAT SOMETHING CAN HAPPEN TO US WHILE I AM DRIVING MY UNSAFE CAR. I REQUEST AN ACTION FROM TOYOTA BECAUSE I AM PAYING FOR A CAR THAT I AM NOT USING. *TR
THE ENGINE WOULD SOUND LIKE A GO KART. IT WAS THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD THAT WAS LOOSE AT THE ENGINE. THE LEAKING EXHAUST WOULD SURELY BE MIXING IN WITH THE INSIDE AIR AND WOULD HEAT UP THE HOOD AND SURROUNDING AREAS. BOLTS NEEDED TO BE TIGHTENED. *TR

THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS RELATED TO THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. MY DAUGHTER'S 2007 COROLLA "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING BACK TO COLLEGE ON 8/29/10. SHE STATED THAT THE CAR STARTED TO JERK PERIODICALLY ALSO. SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME SAFELY THE FOLLOWING DAY AND I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC ON 8/30/10. HE SAID THAT THERE WAS A BULLETIN RELEASED REGARDING A RECALL ON THE ECM AND TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA MALL OF GEORGIA AND HANDED THE SERVICE REP THE PRINTOUT OF THE BULLETIN AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I ASKED HIM IF THIS HAD TO DO WITH THE RECENT RECALL - HE SAID THAT THIS WASN'T RECENT SINCE THE DATE ON THE BULLETIN WAS 2007. HE SAID PROBABLY THE ECM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND WOULD CALL WHEN HE KNEW FOR SURE. A FEW HOURS LATER HE SAID THAT THE ECM WAS REPLACED AT NO CHARGE. IN THE INTERIM, I HAD DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL BULLETIN ISSUED ON 8/26/10 SO WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR LATER THAT EVENING, I QUESTIONED A DIFFERENT SERVICE REP AND HE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT ANY RECALL! HUH? DIDN'T THE OTHER REP TELL ME THAT THIS WAS FROM 2007? I SAID WHY DID YOU REPLACE THE ECM THEN, HE SAID BECAUSE THERE IS A START UP ISSUE WITH THE ECM. I TOLD HIM WE WEREN'T HAVING START UP TROUBLE, BUT THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STARTED TO JERK. I TOLD HIM WHAT I HAD LEARNED ABOUT THE ENGINE STALLING WHILE DRIVING AND ASKED HIM IF THESE ISSUES WERE FIXED WITH THIS REPLACEMENT AND HE SAID NO, JUST THE START UP ISSUE!! HE SAID SINCE THERE WASN'T A RECALL ON THE STALLING ISSUE, THEY COULDN'T FIX THIS. I WAS TOTALLY CONFUSED AND DID NOT FEEL SAFE PUTTING MY DAUGHTER BACK IN THAT CAR. NOW I SEE ALL THESE COMPLAINTS GOING BACK TO 2007 REGARDING THIS. TOYOTA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS FOR 3 YEARS AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO INFORM THE PUBLIC. 1. 08/23/2010- LEFT FOR WORK CAR STALLED, HARD KNOCKING IN GEAR. CAR INOPERABLE I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT. 2. ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED 04/23/2009 , PART # 89661-02K21,VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THIS INCIDENT 08/23/2010 THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ADVISED THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME ISSUE , THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WHICH WAS REPLACED 04/23/2009 ,THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $1000.00 TO REPAIR , PLUS THE COST OF A RENTAL CAR. THE MILEAGE AT THIS TIME IS 83,419. SO I AM ADVISED IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THIS SAME ISSUE HAS OCCURRED TWICE IN TWO YEARS. NOT TO MENTION THE COST OF THIS REPAIR BUT WILL IT HAPPEN IN THE NEXT TWO MONTHS? IT IS OBVIOUS TO ME THIS VEHICLE HAS A DEFECT. AFTER DRIVING FOR SOME TIME, THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR STARTS TO LOSE POWER. WITHIN ONE MINUTE THE CAR SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND STALLS OUT. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED UNKNOWN INJURIES AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED BY THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY HOWEVER, THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,000.

ON AUGUST 11, 2010, WHILE DRIVING OUR 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA AT ABOUT 40 MPH THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED RUNNING. WE COASTED AND WERE ABLE TO GET PULLED OFF THE ROAD SAFELY. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART. WE CALLED OUR TOYOTA DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND EXPLAINED WHAT WAS GOING ON. THEY SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE COMPUTER IN THE 2007 COROLLAS AND THAT WAS PROBABLY WHAT WE WERE EXPERIENCING. WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER AND IF THAT WAS THE CASE, I.E., COMPUTER FAILURE, THE TOW CHARGE AND THE REPAIR WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE VEHICLE WARRANTY, THEY WOULD HOLD A SERVICE SPOT OPEN FOR US THAT VERY DAY AND IT WOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF WHEN WE ARRIVED. THEY QUOTED A REPAIR TIME OF ABOUT 1 HOUR. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. IT WAS A COMPUTER FAILURE. THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED IN ABOUT THE STATED TIME. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE WHERE BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD ARE LINED WITH CONCRETE ABUTMENTS AND THERE IS NO PLACE TO PULL OFF OUR OUTCOME MAY HAVE BEEN VERY DIFFERENT. THE AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON SINCE 2010 I TOOK IT IN TO TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG. LIGHT KEPT COMING ON SO I TOOK IT BACK IN (2011) AGAIN WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG, TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A 3RD TIME IN 2012 AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A WATER BOTTLE THAT WAS UNDER THE SEAT. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON A FEW MONTHS AGO, AND THEN TURNED OFF. MY TRANSMISSION STARTED SHIFTING ROUGH AND JERKING BETWEEN GEARS - PARTICULARLY GOING IN AND OUT OF REVERSE. A FEW WEEKS LATER MY DASH LIGHT WENT OUT, AND MY TAIL LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. I CALLED TOYOTA, AND THEY HAD ME COME IN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE MY ECU RE-CALIBRATED. RATHER THAN RE-CALIBRATING IT, I WAS TOLD AFTER THE APPOINTMENT THAT THEY HAD REPLACED THE ECU. THE REPLACEMENT ECU WAS INSTALLED ON AUGUST 7, 2010. THEY WERE UNABLE TO HELP ME WITH THE LIGHTING PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS A FUSE PROBLEM. NONE OF MY FUSES ARE BLOWN. THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE AS HARD OF A TIME SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS AS IT DID BEFORE THE ECU REPLACEMENT, BUT NOW I AM HARDLY ABLE TO ACCELERATE UP THE HILL TO MY HOUSE. MY ENGINE REVS UP TO ALMOST 4000RPM JUST TRYING TO GET UP TO 30MPH. THE ENGINE IS WORKING HARD AND IS LOUD, THE CAR HAS BEEN VIBRATING DURING ACCELERATION, AND IT TAKES A LOT OF PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR. THERE WAS A RECALL ANNOUNCED ON MY CAR, AND I WENT TO TOYOTA.COM TO CHECK MY VIN. IT IS INVOLVED IN THE RECALL, BUT I ALREADY HAD THE NEW PART THEY SAY I NEED INSTALLED AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT MY 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA THE ENGINE STALLED (HAD THE AIRCONDITIONER AT FULL BLAST AS IT WAS A HOT DAY). FORTUNATELY, I SUCCESSFULLY RESTARTED IT AND PROMPTLY DROVE IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP (BROUGHT IT FIRST TO FIRESTONE AUTOCARE BUT THEY ADVISED ME TO BRING IT TO TOYOTA). THEY FOUND OUT THAT THE CAR WAS JUMPY SPECIFICALLY WHEN BACKING OUT. IT WAS RUNNING FUNNY EVEN WHEN MOVING FORWARD. BEFORE THEY FIXED THE CAR, THEY ASKED ME IF MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY - (3 YEARS OR 36000 MILES WHICHEVER COMES FIRST) AND I TOLD THEM THAT IT WAS NOT. THEY TOLD ME AFTERWARDS THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ECU UNIT AND THAT I DON'T HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING BECAUSE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY WHICH I FOUND STRANGE AS I WAS GIVEN THE IMPRESSION THAT THE CAR WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TWICE WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM. THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS BEING PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 54,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE TOYOTA DEALER WAS SUPPOSED TO FIX THE ACCELERATOR PROBLEM AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME THE AUTO HAD COME TO A STOP IN PARKING SPOT, THEN STARTED TO ACCELERATE - JUMPING THE CURB AND HITTING A TREE. THIS IS A TOYOTA KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS AUTO. IT WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST BUT THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED BEFORE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE BUT ADVISED THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WAS CAUSED BY THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL MOTOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VERY NEXT DAY, THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS WHEN THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED APPROXIMATELY TWELVE FEET INTO A TREE AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE THEREAFTER. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHERE HE WAS AWAITING ASSISTANCE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT BEGAN TO DRIVE BETWEEN 5 AND 8 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE DROPPED TO AN IDLE POSITION WHICH CAUSED HIM TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE AUTOMATIC GEAR SELECT COVER IS CHROME IN THE S MODEL TOYOTA COROLLA AND DURING NOONTIME HOURS WHEN THE SUN IS HIGH, THE COVER REFLECTS THE SUNLIGHT AND REFLECTS INTO THE EYES. AT 1:00PM, THE SUN WAS REFLECTING OFF OF THE CHROME COVER. AS I ATTEMPTED TO COVER IT WITH A PAPER BAG, MY FOOT CAME OFF OF THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE CREEP OF THE VEHICLE CAUSED A COLLISION WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT AT A STOP SIGN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME SUCH AN ACCIDENT HAS OCCURRED. THE FIRST TIME WAS ALSO DURING THE SUMMER AT 1:15PM 2 YEARS AGO WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO COVER THE GLARE WITH MY BACKPACK. SINCE THAT INCIDENT, I HAVE ALWAYS BROUGHT A HAT THAT I USE TO COVER THE CHROME GEAR SELECT COVER. ON THIS DAY, HOWEVER, I HAD FORGOT TO BRING MY HAT WHICH WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THE GLARE SHINING DIRECTLY INTO THE EYES. I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. IF IT IS WINDY ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I DRIVE, I GET BLOWN ALL OVER THE ROAD. I HAVE LITERALLY BEEN BLOWN OF ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD OR INTO THE OTHER LANE. PASSING SEMI-TRUCKS IS ALSO EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IN WINDY CONDITIONS. I LOOK FOR SIMILAR MOVEMENT IN OTHER SMALL CARS WHILE I AM DRIVING AND I DO NOT SEE THEM BEING BLOWN ALL OVER THE ROAD SO I THINK THAT THIS MUST BE A PROBLEM SPECIAL TO THE COROLLA. I IS EXTREMELY SCARY WHEN I'M TRAVELING THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR GETS COMPLETELY BLOWN OFF OF THE ROAD. THE STEERING IS SO LOOSE THAT I FEEL LIKE I HAVE VERY LITTLE CONTROL WHEN BEING BLOWN AROUND BY WIND, AND IN REALITY, I PROBABLY DO HAVE VERY LITTLE CONTROL. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, IN MY 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA, WHEN SUDDENLY MANY OF MY INDICATOR LIGHTS WENT ON AND THE ENGINE WENT DEAD, I ALSO LOST MY POWER STEERING AND MY CAPABILITY OF BRAKING/STOPPING. I THEN WENT TO START MY CAR TO DRIVE IT THERE AND IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER TO START. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
