TL*THE CONTACT RENTED A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE DRIVER STATED THAT THE RENTAL COMPANY TOLD HIM THAT THERE WAS NO NEED TO WORRY SINCE THEY RECENTLY HAD THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,800.
I WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT AND MY ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED, FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE BUT IT WOULDN'T START. I COASTED INTO A SPOT, AND THEN I RESTARTED THE CAR. THIS TIME IT STARTED FINE. THE ENGINE REVVED LOUDLY. I ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE CAR FORWARD, BUT IT STALLED AGAIN AFTER A FEW FEET. WHEN I REPORTED IT TO THE DEALER, THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ECM WAS BAD, BUT THEY COULD NOT IDENTIFY WHAT HAD CAUSED THE DEFECT. *TR
1) DRIVING 55 MPH EVENT HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING. 2) THE DRIVERS DOOR POWER WINDOW(WINDOW WAS UP/CLOSED) BROKE AND BLEW (EXPLODED) INTO THE VEHICLE, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, THE DRIVER RECEIVED A MINOR SCRATCH ON LEFT FOREARM. 3) WAITING FOR DEALERSHIP TO OPEN. *TR

CONSUMER HAS STATED THAT HIS 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA PULLS TO THE RIGHT WHILE DRIVING. *TS
WHILE DRIVING ON A CROWDED 4 LANE STREET IN WADSWORTH OHIO , MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION, IT DID NOT STALL BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SPEED REDUCED TO 5 TO 10 MILES INSTANTLY WITH BUSY TRAFFIC ALL AROUND ME, I PUT MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE THERE WERE CARS COMING BEHIND ME AT NORMAL SPEED, I SLOWLY MOVED MY CAR CAUTIOUSLY TO THE FURTHEST RIGHT LANE, WHERE I WAS ABLE TO GO INTO A PARKING LOT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC WHERE HE HOOKED IT UP TO A COMPUTER ANALYZER, THE RESULT SHOWED THAT THE CONTROL MODULE PERFORMANCE CODE P0607, WHICH IS A COMPUTER MALFUNCTION, WE HAVE CONTACTED A TOYOTA DEALER, WE HAVE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THEM TO DO THERE OWN DIAGNOSIS, AND HOPEFULLY FIX THE PROBLEM, IN THE MEAN TIME I CANNOT DRIVE CAR AND NOT WORRY ABOUT MY SAFETY ON THE ROAD. *TR
2-17-10 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA STALLED ON 4 LANE HIGHWAY. I HAD TO RENT A CAR. WENT BACK TO THE CAR AND IT STARTED AND RAN FINE FOR A FEW DAYS. THEN STARTED STALLING AGAIN. ONCE WHEN ON INTERSTATE I-26 I WAS IN PASSING LANE DOING 65 MPH AND IT STALLED AND I HAD TO GET IT OFF THE ROAD. I WAS ALMOST RUN OVER BY IRATE MOTORIST. IF THAT'S NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS. PROBLEM BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND IT WOULD STALL EVERY 10-15 MILES. TOOK IT TO MECHANIC ON 3-15-10 AND HE INSTALLED A NEW OXYGEN SENSOR AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE FOR THE NEXT 100 MILES. NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS BACK ON AND THE MECHANIC SUSPECTS THE ECM IS THE PROBLEM. NOW I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. DON'T KNOW IF USED PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA WHICH UPON CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATION AND/OR REACTIVATION SPEEDS UP TO DESIRED SPEED (NORMAL) BUT THEN FEELS AS IF IT IS STUCK IN THE ACCELERATE MODE AND WILL CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE UNTIL IT FINALLY THUMPS OR THUDS INTO CRUISE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA WHICH WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW. THE VEHICLE HAS GOODYEAR INTEGRITY TIRES, 195/65/R15, WHICH WERE THE ORIGINAL TIRES. SHE STATED THAT WHENEVER SHE WOULD TRAVEL ON WET ROAD CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE WOULD SLIDE AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RESPOND. ON ONE OCCASION, WHILE EXITING A HIGHWAY RAMP AT SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 15 MPH DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLIDE AROUND THE EXIT RAMP. SHE ATTEMPTED TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, TO NO AVAIL. SHE THEN PROCEEDED TO DO A COMPLETE 360 DEGREE TURN AND CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE WALL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THERE WAS MODERATE DAMAGE ON THE FRONT-END OF THE VEHICLE AND SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE SCENE TO THE DEALER. SHE WAS AWAITING A DAMAGE ESTIMATE FROM THE DEALER. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO DATE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 23,000. UPDATED 4/7/2010 *CN UPDATED 06/01/10
MY 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA JUST QUIT RUNNING AND I WAS STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THREE MEN PULLED OVER TO HELP ME. ONE STOPPED TRAFFIC WHILE THE OTHER TWO PUSHED ME OUT OF TRAFFIC INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. I CALLED AAA, WHO SENT A TRUCK WHICH TOWED ME TO TAO AUTO IN CARY, NC. TAO AUTO TOLD ME MONDAY THAT IT WAS A COMPUTER PROBLEM, SO I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO FRED ANDERSON TOYOTA IN RALEIGH, NC. FRED ANDERSON SAID THE COMPUTER IN MY CAR HAD MALFUNCTIONED, SO THEY REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY. THEY WERE PROMPT AND COURTEOUS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS TYPE OF FAILURE - HAD IT HAPPENED TEN MINUTES EARLIER, I WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF FIVE LANES OF HEAVY TRAFFIC ON I-40 , ALL MOVING AT ABOUT 70 MPH. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED ALONG WITH OTHER PEOPLE IN THE CARS AROUND ME. *TR
APPROXIMATELY JAN 26, 2010 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA ENGINE ACCELERATED UP TO APPROXIMATELY 7000 RPMS WHILE MY WIFE'S FOOT WAS ON BRAKE ONLY, CAR WAITING FOR ABOUT TWO MINUTES AT TRAFFIC LIGHT. CAR WAS TURNED OFF. CAR TOWED TO TOYOTA DEALER, DEALER FOUND NOTHING WRONG, NOTHING DONE. FEB 12, 2010 AGAIN THE CAR WAS IDLING, WAITING FOR TRAFFIC TO CLEAR, TO MAKE RIGHT TURN. THIS TIME ENGINE STARTED WILDLY ACCELERATING AS SOON AS MY WIFE GAVE CAR A LITTLE GAS, THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD RAPIDLY, SHE HIT ANOTHER CAR, CAUSED DAMAGE TO BOTH CARS, NO INJURIES. CAR ENGINE RACED VERY FAST AGAIN JUST AFTER ACCIDENT. CAR TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP FOR BODY WORK ONLY. FEB 24 JUST AFTER CAR PICKED UP AT BODY SHOP, CAR WAS WAITING IN TRAFFIC TO MAKE LEFT TURN, FOOT ON BRAKE, ENGINE ACCELERATED UP TO 7000 RPM AGAIN, CAR TURNED OFF, TOWED BACK TO TOYOTA DEALER. IT STILL SITS THERE TODAY, MARCH 15. DEALER WILL NOT LOOK AT CAR, NATIONAL TOYOTA TECH TEAM SAYS THEY WILL CALL TO SET UP APPOINTMENT TO LOOK AT CAR, MAYBE CALL THIS COMING WEEK, MAY NOT EVEN START LOOKING AT CAR FOR SEVERAL MORE WEEKS. WE HAVE NOT HAD USE OF CAR FOR ONE MONTH, TOYOTA IS CONVINCED NOTHING IS WRONG, CAR IS NOT RECALLED, TOYOTA SEEMS DETERMINED TO PROVE CAR PROBLEM DID NOT CAUSE ACCIDENT, SHOW NO CONCERN FOR WHAT IS CAUSING PROBLEM. WE HAVE EXTENDED WARRENTY, BUT CAR IS NOT GETTING FIXED, WE CAN NOT GET RENTAL CAR WHILE CAR IS IN SHOP BECAUSE TOYOTA IS NOT BEING FIXED. CAR SEEMS TO BE EXCELLENT CANIDATE FOR STUDIES, SINCE IT HAS HAD 3 SUDDEN ACCELERATIONS IN A SHORT TIME, TWO OF THEM INVOLVING FOOT ON BRAKE, NOT ACCELERATOR, POINTS TO SOFTWARE PROBLEM. TOYOTA ACTS LIKE THEY DO NOT WANT SOFTWARE PROBLEM TO BE FOUND. *TR
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA THAT IS NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL, BUT I EXPERIENCE JERKING ON ACCELERATION THE FIRST 1 TO 2 MILES EACH DAY. THE JERKY ACCELERATION OCCURS ON FLAT SURFACES. IT SEEMS TO ONLY HAPPEN ON COLD STARTS FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. I AM CONCERNED THAT MY ACCELERATOR OR THE ELECTRONICS MAY BE DEFECTIVE. ALSO, IT IS HARD TO CONTROL THE STEERING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR ROAMS INTO OTHER LANES EASILY. I AM CONCERNED THAT SOME PARTS ON MY VEHICLE MAY NEED TO BE RECALLED. *TR
MY 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA FEELS LIKE IT IS FLOATING WHEN I AM ON THE HIGHWAY AND DRIVING ABOVE 60 MPH. I THOUGHT IT WAS WIND OR TIRE PRESSURE BUT I CORRECTED THE TIRE PRESSURE AND IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I GET UP TO A HIGHER SPEED AND NOT ON REGULAR ROADS OR IN THE TOWN. IT DID NOT DO THIS FOR THE FIRST YEAR AND A HALF THAT I OWNED THE CAR BUT IT HAS BEEN DOING IT REGULARLY FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED AS SHE WAS DRIVING AT 20 MPH WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO THE MAXIMUM RPM, HOWEVER SHE DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THE CONTACT PUT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL WHEN THE VEHICLE STOPPED AND SHE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AS IT WAS STILL RACING AT THE MAXIMUM RPM. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE SHE PRESSED ON BOTH THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME. THE CONTACT STATED SHE SENT A LETTER TO THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURER AND HAD NOT RECEIVED AN ANSWER BACK AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000. THE COROLLA 2007 "S MODEL" STOPPED OR DIED ON THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND COULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE WHEN ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED. *TR

THE NEXT DAY, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. WITHIN 20 MINUTES, HE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE HOME. WITHIN MINUTES, HE WAS NOTIFIED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SPEAK WITH TOYOTA OF AMERICA. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 14,200.

I JUST READ AN ARTICLE ON MSNBC'S ABOUT '09-10' COROLLAS HAVING DIFFICULTIES STEERING THEIR VEHICLES. MY '07 COROLLA HAS THE SAME PROBLEM, ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I INITIALLY THOUGHT IT WAS A TIRE ISSUE, BUT I HAVE BOUGHT NEW TIRES RECENTLY AND AFTER CHECKING THE AIR PRESSURE, THE ISSUE REMAINS. I BOUGHT A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO. I HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE ON JAN. 29, 2010. (1) FIRSTLY, WHEN I GOT OFF WORK, I COULD NOT START THE ENGINE. I TRIED 3 TIMES, AND ENGINE WAS FINALLY STARTED AND BOTH THE BATTERY AND ENGINE CHECK LIGHTS WERE ON. I WAS VERY WORRIED AND DECIDED TO GO TO A DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY. (2) THE NEXT MORNING, I DROVE TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP NEARBY. WHEN I STOPPED AT A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT ON MY WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP, MY ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY!!! I WAS SO NERVOUS, QUICKLY TURNED ON MY EMERGENCY LIGHT AND TRIED TO START THE ENGINE AGAIN. THE ENGINE WAS STARTED AND FINALLY I ARRIVED AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER CHECKED MY CAR AND FOUND THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WENT BAD. THEY REPLACED IT WITH A NEW ECM. THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR NOW. MY CAR IS ONLY ABOUT 22,000 MILES. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE QUALITY OF TOYOTA'S ELECTRONICS. *TR
DRIVING ON 210 FWY. GOING EAST, SPEED WAS APPROX. 70, WHEN CAR STALLED, AKA DIED. THE CAR TURNED OFF AND SLOWED DOWN, MAKING US SLAM ON HAZARDS AND BRAKES. THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE PAST WEEK. WE TOOK IT TO CROWN TOYOTA AND FOUND OUT THE ECU IS BAD. BUT THEY THEN PROCEED TO TELL US ITS ONLY COVERED FOR UP TO 80,000 MILES. THEY THEN PROCEED TO TELL US ITS A PROBLEM ON SOME COROLLAS, BUT NOT ALL. SO THERE IS NO RECALLS, SO WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *CN
MY BRAKES MOMENTARILY FAIL AT TIMES WHEN I PASS OVER UNEVEN SURFACES ON THE ROAD. IT OCCURS A FEW TIMES EVERY WEEK (I COMMUTE ABOUT 20 MILES EVERYDAY). I LIVE IN CHICAGO, AND THIS BRAKE FAILURE OCCURS IN NICE WEATHER AS WELL AS DURING SNOWY OR RAINY CONDITIONS. I HAVE HAD MY TIRES CHECKED, AND THEY ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. THE BRAKE FAILURE BEGAN TO OCCUR WHEN THE CAR WAS NEW. MY TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON ALL THE TIME FOR NO REASON. MY MECHANIC HAS A TOYOTA COROLLA TOO AND HE TOLD ME HIS GOES ON ALL THE TIME AS WELL. I JUST PRESS THE TIRE PRESSURE BUTTON IN THE CAR TO MAKE IT GO OFF. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE 60 FREEWAY WITH MY 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. IT DRIFTED TO THE RIGHT FOR MORE THAN 100 YARDS. WHEN I CORRECTED IT, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED TO THE LEFT AND I ENDED UP RUNNING INTO THE CENTRAL DIVIDER. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA WITH 55K MILES THAT ONE OF THE REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP AN WOULD NOT ROTATE. THE CAR COULD NOT BE MOVED AS THE PASSENGER REAR WHEEL BECAME LOCKED. AFTER TOWING TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY REMOVED THE REAR BRAKE DRUMS AND CLEANED DUST AND RUST FROM INSIDE THE DRUMS. LUCKILY THE REAR BRAKES DID NOT BECOME "STUCK" ON A ROADWAY WHERE THERE WAS TRAFFIC. *TR
2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. STEERING WHEEL GETS STUCK ON THE RETURN FROM A LEFT OR A RIGHT TURN. THE RETURN ON THE STEERING WHEEL IS NOT A SMOOTH RETURN. ITS A HESITANT RETURN WITH A SHAKE. MAINLY HAPPENS ON COLDER DAYS. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ON 1/15/10 FOR THE ISSUE AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE ISSUE. *TR

I JUST HAD THE FLOOR MAT ACCELERATION HAPPEN TO ME IN MY 2007 COROLLA. I WAS SLOWING DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT, SO MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE... THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED SO I THREW THE SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE MAT OUT FROM UNDER THE ACCELERATOR AND MY CAR CONTINUED TO SLIDE LIKE IT WAS ON ICE AND THEN CAME TO A STOP. *TR
2007 TOYOTA COROLLA STALLED A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN DOWNTOWN RUSH-HOUR TRAFFIC. WOULD START BACK UP, BUT ONLY IDLE FOR 30 SEC. AND DIE AGAIN. DECEMBER 17, 2009 THE ECM UNIT FAILED IN OUR 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. ENGINE CUT OFF. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. THERE WAS AN ANGEL ON MY DAUGHTER'S SHOULDER AS SHE WAS ON A LOW TRAFFIC CITY STREET WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY. NOT A CRASH, BUT A CONCERN. I READ THAT YOU ARE LOOKING INTO STEERING OF COROLLAS FROM 2009 AND LATER, BUT PLEASE LOOK INTO EARLIER MODELS AS WELL. TWO MONTHS AGO A PROBLEM OCCURRED WITH MY CAR. TWICE WHILE DRIVING ON SLIGHTLY UNEVEN FREEWAYS, MY CAR HAS FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO LEAVE THE LANE, STEERING INTO THE NEXT LANE. I GRABBED THE WHEEL TIGHTER AND TURNED TO CORRECT IT, SO NO CRASH, BUT THE CAR DID MOVE SEVERAL FEET OVER BEFORE I GRABBED THE STEERING WHEEL. BOTH TIMES I WAS GOING 75-80 MPH. I THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY, BUT THEN READ ABOUT STEERING PROBLEMS. AS LONG AS I DRIVE LESS THAN 70, IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 30 MILE, THE STEERING WHEEL JUST VEER IN ONE DIRECTION, CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR. TOW IT TO THE DEALER. *TR
HAD BEEN DRIVING MY CAR FOR 10 MINUTES WHEN THE LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER. I STARTED TO SLOW AND THEN THE CAR DIED. THERE WASN'T ANY POWER AND I WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE CAR. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS VERY LIGHT TRAFFIC AT 0613 AND NO ONE HIT MY CAR. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. MY PARENTS ARRIVED WITHIN 15 MINUTES. MY DAD CLEANED THE BATTERY TERMINALS AND THE BATTERY DID SPARK. CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. A FEW PEOPLE HELPED US PUSH THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. TOWED TO CLOSEST, REPUTABLE, MECHANIC. MAIN FUSIBLE LINK BLOWN. WIRING W/O RATING. MECHANIC CALLED TOYOTA AND THERE WASN'T ANY LITERATURE AVAILABLE TO GIVE MECHANIC THE RATING. TOYOTA REFUSED TO SEND WIRING DIAGRAM. MECHANIC FOUND ONLINE AND STILL NO INFO ON RATING. REPLACED WITH HEAVIEST RATING AVAILABLE. PROBLEM FIXED AND UNABLE TO DUPLICATE WHAT CAUSED PROBLEM. MOST CONCERNING IS THAT MECHANIC CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. CAR THEN TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE ALSO UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM AND CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS MOST UNHELPFUL, IMPLYING THAT I HAD SOMEHOW CAUSED THE PROBLEM. ON THIS DATE (NOV. 19, 2009) MY MOTHER AND I WERE ON THE WAY TO WORK ON INTERSTATE 45, IT WAS A CLEAR DAY NO WEATHER ISSUES AT ALL. AFTER ABOUT 20 MIN INTO OUR COMMUTE WE CAME UP ON AN ACCIDENT IN THE ROAD, WHERE A CAR UP AHEAD HAD SPENT OUT OF CONTROL, AS I APPLIED MY FOOT TO THE BRAKE THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND INSTEAD OF THE CAR COMING TO A STOP WE COLLIDED WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. NOW WHEN I SAY THE CAR KEPT GOING IT DID INSTEAD OF HITTING THE SUV ONCE WE HIT HIM TWICE AS IF MY FOOT WASN'T TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE ENTIRE FRONT OF MY CAR WAS DESTROYED, THE SUV IN FRONT HAD A SMALL DENT, BUT THANKS TO THE LORD NO ONE WAS HURT EXCEPT FOR A LARGE BRUISE ON MY MOTHER AND LOTS OF HURT FEELINGS FOR ME. THE POLICE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AND IT WAS WHEN THEY SHOWED UP I REALIZED THAT THE IMPACT WAS SO BAD THAT IT JARRED OUR DOORS SHUT. AFTER THE OFFICERS INVESTIGATION MY MOTHER AND I WERE LET GO WITHOUT A TICKET BEING THAT THE WRECK WAS CAUSED BY ANOTHER PERSONS FAULT (THE SPINNING CAR UP AHEAD). WHAT WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT FOR ME TO UNDERSTAND WAS THE FACT THAT WE HIT THE SUV IN FRONT OF ME TWICE. IT WASN'T LIKE MY CAR WASN'T IN GOOD SHAPE, A 2007 COROLLA WITH 55,000 MILES, THAT HAD JUST GOT 2 NEW FRONT TIRES AND NEW BRAKE PADS ALL THE WAY AROUND. 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA: WHEN COMING TO A STOP CAR WILL SPONTANEOUSLY ACCELERATE AND LURCH FORWARD. WE HAVE BEEN SPARED ANY ACCIDENTS BUT IT IS HAPPENING AT LEAST TWICE A DAY NOW AND WILL DO IT WHEN COMING TO A STOP, AND BACKING UP. WE HAVE COME CLOSE TO HITTING OUR GARAGE AND OTHER CARS BECAUSE OF THIS SPONTANEOUS ACCELERATION PROBLEM. FAILURE STARTED AROUND 38,000 MILES AND IS STILL CONTINUING NOW AT ABOUT 49,000 MILES. CAR HAS BEEN TO A TRUSTED MECHANIC ONCE AND THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES. WE HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. WE HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY USING OUR CRUISE CONTROL. WHEN WE CAME TO THE EXIT, MY HUSBAND STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND DISENGAGED THE CRUISE CONTROL AND WE STOPPED AT THE LIGHT. WE WERE SITTING THERE WITH THE ENGINE IDLING, MY HUSBAND'S FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE MOTOR ROARED AND THE CAR BEGAN TO SURGE FORWARD. HE STEPPED HARD ON THE BRAKE AND IT STOPPED. SCARED US TO SAY THE LEAST. IT HAS NOT OCCURRED AGAIN, BUT SOMETIMES WHEN WE ARE ON THE HIGHWAY, WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON AND IT ACCELERATES, IT WILL NOT BACK OFF AND THE CAR WILL CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE UNTIL WE STEP ON THE BRAKE. IF YOU STEP ON THE BRAKE AND DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL THE ACCELERATION WILL STOP. IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT INCIDENTS WE FELT WE SHOULD REPORT THESE INCIDENTS. WE READ THE REPORT ON THE RUNAWAY PRIUS AND THAT YOU COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE INCIDENT. I AM CONVINCED, BASED ON OUR EXPERIENCE THAT YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE INCIDENT. IT'S A 2007 COROLLA. I DON'T USUALLY DRIVE MUCH BEFORE AND I DO DRIVE A LOT SINCE I TRANSFER TO COLLEGE AND HAVE TO GO ON FWY. ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO, ONCE I TRIED TO STOP ON THE ROAD BECAUSE RIGHT LIGHT, I LEFT THE GAS PEDAL AND WAIT TO DECELERATE AND THEN STEP ON THE BREAK,BUT IT DIDN'T, I ALMOST HIT THE CAR BEFORE ME AND IT'S REALLY HARD TO STOP I HAD TO STEP IT REALLY HARD. FROM THAN TIME, I BEGAN TO REALIZE THAT THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM FOR IT. I CANT TELL EXACTLY HOW OFTEN IT HAPPEN, BUT SOMEHOW I KNOW WHEN IT GOES UP TO 60MPH, AND IT WILL DECELERATE. WHEN IT DROPS TO AROUND 45, IT STOPS TO DROP. AND WHEN I GO ON THE FWY, WHEN IT HITS CERTAIN SPEED LIKE 75, SOME TIMES IT WON'T SLOW DOWN EVEN I LEAVE MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL AFTER I KNEW THE TYT PETAL PROBLEM AND THE STEERING PROBLEM, I WONDER IF MY CAR WAS INVOLVED. HOWEVER, THIS MODEL IS NOT ON THE LIST, I STILL WORRIED ABOUT IT. BECAUSE TYT MIGHT HIDE THE PROBLEM, OR THEY DID FIND IT NOW AND THEY WILL FIND IT LATER. THIS WEEK I GOT A SPEEDING TICKET IN CA I-5 FWY AND I DOUBT THAT PART OF THE REASON IS THAT THE "RARE" ACCELERATE PROBLEM. IN AUGUST 2009 THE COMPUTER WAS REPLACED ON MY 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA BECAUSE IT DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. SINCE THAT TIME, MY CAR WILL SUDDENLY REV UP AND ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER A FEW WEEKS AGO AND AFTER HAVING IT FOR A WEEK, RETURNED IT TO ME AND STATED NOTHING WAS WRONG. ON NOVEMBER 2ND, MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND I HAD TO KNOCK IT OUT OF GEAR AND STAND UP ON THE BRAKE TO GET IT TO STOP. I CALLED THE DEALER AND HE SAID TO CALL TOYOTA THAT HE WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING WITH THE CAR. I HAVE A CAR IN MY GARAGE THAT I CANNOT DRIVE FOR SAFETY REASONS, NO HELP FROM TOYOTA, AND I WILL NEVER DRIVE IT AGAIN AS I HAVE HAD RE-OCCURRING NIGHTMARES BECAUSE OF THIS INCIDENT AS MY TWINS WERE PLAYING IN THE DRIVEWAY AND I HAD JUST PASSED MY SON ON HIS TRICYCLE AND STOPPED AND PUT MY DAUGHTER ON MY LAP TO PULL INTO THE GARAGE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. THE CODES IDENTIFY IT AS P0456. WHEN WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY TRIED TO TELL US THAT AN ANIMAL HAD MADE A SMALL PINHOLE IN THE GAS RETURN LINE. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE 600.00 TO REPLACE THE TANK OR THEY COULD TEMPORARILY FIX IT UNTIL WE COULD GET THAT DONE. THE TEMPORARY FIX AFTER A FEW MONTHS OPENED AND WE GOT THE ALERT AGAIN. TAKING IT BACK THEY SAID THE TEMP FIX WAS OKAY AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. UPON RETURN HOME, I LOOKED AND FOUND THE TEMP FIX WAS ELECTRICAL TAPE RAPPED AROUND THE LINE. THERE WAS EVIDENCE OF LEAKAGE AND YOU COULD SMELL THE GAS. I REMOVED THE TAPE AND IT APPEARS THIS IS A VERY THIN HOSE. IT IS IN A POSITION OVER THE TANK WHERE WIND COULD BLOW IT UP AND HIT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR. THAT IS NOT SMOOTH AND COULD HAVE CAUSED THE PUNCTURE. TAKING TO ANOTHER DEALER, THEY WANTED TO SAY THE SAME THING. ANIMAL DAMAGE AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN REALLY INVESTIGATE. I HAVE THE VEHICLE AND HOSE. I ALSO READ A NUMBER OF SIMILAR CASES ONLINE. WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE HOSE, IT DOES HAVE AN ANTICHAPHING FOAM NEAR THE LOWER HALF OF THE HOSE CLOSE TO THE WHEEL AREA. NOTHING ON TOP OF THE TANK. APPEARS TO ME THEY KNOW THEY HAVE A CHAPHING PROBLEM AND CHOOSE TO BLAME IT ON ANIMALS AS THAT IS HARD TO PROVE. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE HAD EXPLOSIONS DUE TO THIS ISSUE.
