I WAS DRIVING BACK TO HOME, WHEN I ARRIVED I NEED TO TURN MY CAR TO THE RIGHT SIDE TO MY APARTMENT BUT I COULDN'T STEER MY CAR TO THE RIGHT SIDE. I DECIDED TO GO STRAIGHT TO PARK IN OTHER PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF ME. I TRY TO TURN STEERING WHEEL BUT IT BECAME HARDER TO TURN THEN THE BEGINNING. THEN I SAW THE "ABS" LIGHT AND "BATTERY" LIGHT ARE ON, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND MY CAR STOPPED WORKING. IF I WAS ON THE FREEWAY, PROBABLY WILL CAUSE HORRIBLE ACCIDENT!
DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK DOES NOT LOCK/UNLOCK WHEN PRESSING THE LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE KEY FOB AND PRESSING THE LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR AND PASSENGERS DOOR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING ON A HILL, THE ALTERNATOR ASSEMBLY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHERE THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
WE RECEIVED NOTICE FOR THE RECALL CONCERNING THE AIR BAG MODULE. THERE IS A "NATIONWIDE PART SHORTAGE" AND NO INFORMATION AS TO WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. IT COULD BE A WEEK OR MONTH THE DEALER TOLD ME. IN THE MEANTIME, MY DAUGHTER IS DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT COULD HAVE AN AIRBAG MALFUNCTION WHICH IS VERY CONCERNING TO ME. TOYOTA IS NOT FIXING THE DEFECT IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME SO I WANTED TO SUBMIT A COMPLAINT.
HAD A OIL CONSUMPTION RECALL THAT THE DEALER SAID IT PASSED THE TEST BECAUSE IT DID'T LOSE 1 QT OF OIL DURING A 1200 MILE TIME. WAS TOLD IT IS NORMAL FOR OIL TO DISSAPPEAR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE ABS AND BATTERY WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE ODOMETER, BLINKERS, AND FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE COMPUTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,700.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
H FIRST TIME THE CAR MALFUNCTION I WAS COMING BACK FROM RETURNING THE RENTAL TRUCK, I WAS PULLING OUT ON THE HIGHWAY AND AT THAT TIME THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, THE BATTERY INDICATOR LIGHT COME ON, ABS BRAKE LIGHT COME ON, AND REST OF THE IDIOT LIGHTS ON THE PANEL COME ON. IT WAS VERY HARD TO STEER THE CAR, WILL ALL MY EFFORT WITH TWO HANDS I CAN STEER THE WHEEL AND CONTROL THE CAR. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING REALLY ROUGH AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO QUIT. THIS LASTED FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 SECONDS IT SEEMED LIKE, AND THEN THE CAR STARTED RUNNING RIGHT NOW AND I WAS ABLE TO STEER AGAIN AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE PANEL WENT OUT. I WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS THINKING MY CAR WAS FAILING AND I KNEW THAT THERE IS PROBABLY SOMETHING THE MATTER WITH IT BUT WHEN IT STARTED RUNNING RIGHT, I FIGURED I JUST CAN'T FIX SOMETHING THAT'S NOT BROKE AND REALLY TAKE NO NOTICE OF IT. HOW MY DAUGHTER GOT A DRIVER'S LICENSE ON AUGUST THE 4TH AND THEN ON AUGUST THE 6 YOU WANTED TO USE THE CAR. SO I LET HER USE IT. THE CAR MALFUNCTION AGAIN ON THIS DAY AND AND IT TOOK OUT THE ALTERNATOR WHEN IT DID. SO I CHANGE THE ALTERNATOR IN THE CAR AND LET MY WIFE USE THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS BECAUSE SHE TRAVELS A SHORT DISTANCE TO WORK TO SEE IF IT'S OK. AFTER TWO DAYS OF MY WIFE DRIVING AND THEN I RESUME DRIVING IT TO WORK. DIDN'T APPEAR TO BE THE CAR WAS WORKING FINE UNTIL AUGUST 13TH, AND THAT'S WHEN MY DAUGHTER ERICA DROVE THE CAR AGAIN AND WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY THE CAR MALFUNCTION, SHE COULDN'T STEER THE CAR THE BRAKES WON'T WORK AND NATURALLY GROWN IN REVERSE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS NOT THAT EFFECTIVE IN SHE RAN OFF THE ROAD AND DAMAGE THE CAR.

THE HIGH BEAMS ON THE HEADLIGHTS COME ON WITHOUT THE CONTROL BEING TOUCHED. THIS BEGAN WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR & STILL DOES. AT FIRST IT WOULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME OF THE DAY BUT NOW IT HAPPENS ONLY WHEN IT IS DARK OR GETTING DARK. THIS COULD IMPAIR THE VISION OF THE DRIVER OF AN ONCOMING VEHICLE. IT IS MOST DANGEROUS ON NARROW STREETS. THERE ARE OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THAT OCCUR FROM TIME TO TIME SUCH AS THE CRUISE CONTROL, POWER MIRRORS, AIR CONDITIONER, DRIVING & DASH LIGHTS NOT WORKING. ALSO THE DOME LIGHT HAS REMAINED ON CAUSING THE BATTERY TO RUN DOWN .THESE LATTER PROBLEMS DO NOT SEEM TO POSE THE THREAT THAT THE HEADLIGHTS DO BUT THEY SEEM TO BE CONNECTED & THEY ARE A DISTRACTION THAT COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALER MANY TIMES BUT THEY NEVER CORRECTED THE PROBLEM.
I WAS DRIVING AND WAS CLOSE TO MY DESTINATION WHEN I HEAR SOMETHING GO WRONG. I PARK AT MY DESTINATION AND I SEE A POOL OF WHAT I THINK WAS COOLANT ON THE GROUND. IT ALSO FELT LIKE IT WAS OVERHEATING SO I DID NOT WANT TO RISK THE CAR BLOWING UP SO I HAD IT TOWED. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE WATER PUMP CEASED WHICH CAUSED THE SERPENTINE BELT TO ALSO BREAK. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AND I AM SURPRISED THAT THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY RECALLS.
TAKATA RECALL - THE MANUFACTURER HAS FAILED OR IS UNABLE TO REMEDY THIS SAFETY RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE IN A TIMELY MANNER. I LIVE IN TEXAS WHICH IS CONSIDERED AS A HIGHER RISK DUE TO THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY,
MY MOTHER IS 75 YEARS OLD. HERE COROLLA IS 6 YEARS OLD. SHE TOOK IT TO TOYOTA ON APRIL 23RD, 2015 FOR THE RECALL OF THE AIRBAG (SPIRAL CABLE SUB ASSEMBLY AND CABLE KIT) AND UPDATED SOFTWARE AND INSTALL UPDATE LABEL (SMART STOP TECHNOLOGY AND ELSBOS UPDATE ECM SOFTWARE) TO CORRECT THE RECALL ISSUE. SHE WAS SENT HOME AS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FIXED. ON FRIDAY APRIL 24TH, 2015 AT 10PM SHE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM AN EVENT AT APPROX 45 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED. SHE TOOK IT TO TOYOTA THE NEXT DATE ON SATURDAY APRIL 25TH, 2015 AT 11:00 AM. TOYOTA INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND SENT HER HOME. ON THE WAY THE HOME THE SAME DAY AT 5:26PM SHE WAS GOING APPROX 10 MPH COMING THROUGH A LIGHT AND IT STALLED AGAIN. THE ENGINE KICKED BACK IN AND THEN IT STALLED AGAIN. HER VEHICLE WAS RUNNING FINE UNTIL TOYOTA CHANGED OUT THE RECALL PARTS. THERE IS SOMETHING VERY WRONG WITH THIS AND NEEDS ATTENTION. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NOT ACCIDENT IT WAS A CLOSE CALL SHE WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. I AM WRITING NOW BECAUSE SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED WITH TOYOTA AND HER CAR NEEDS TO BE FIXED IN THE SAME CONDITION THAT IT WAS PRIOR TO GOING TO TOYOTA. STEERING WHEEL GETS REALLY STIFF SOMETIMES IT LOCKS UP WHEN I REVERSE AND THEN PUT THE CAR BACK IN DRIVE. THERE SEEMS TO BE SOME LOST OF POWER FOR A BRIEF MOMENT, THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR THE PAST MONTH.
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 5 MPH ON A PARKING LOT WITH A SLIGHT INCLINE WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY SURGED. I WAS ABLE TO APPLY THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE TRAVELED FORWARD ABOUT 6 TO 10 FEET. *TR

AT 89,000 MILES, THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON EARLY IN THE DAY BUT I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT AFTER STOPPING AT TOYOTA WHO CONFIRMED IT WAS A "BATTERY LIGHT." LATER IN THE DAY, WHILE TRAVELING CLOSE TO HOME AT ABOUT 25MPH, ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON IN THE DASHBOARD AND THE CAR STARTED TO SEIZE UP: STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER AND I COULD BARELY GET THE CAR OVER TO THE CURB (IT HAPPENED WITHIN MINUTES). THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. IT TURNED OUT TO BE AN ALTERNATOR GONE BAD. FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE BUT I AM GLAD IT HAPPENED AT 25 MPH AND NOT ON THE FREEWAY EARLIER IN THE DAY, OR IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL GET ALL WARNING LIGHTS CHECKED OUT PROMPTLY AND NOT ASSUME THAT A BATTERY SYMBOL MEANS ONLY THE BATTERY IS DYING. PERHAPS TOYOTA NEEDS AN "ALTERNATOR LIGHT" AS WELL, AS THIS IS A SERIOUS SITUATION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 395 IN CONNECTICUT THE ENGINE DIED. I WAS ABLE TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND AFTER MULTIPLE TRIES THE CAR STATED. I DROVE A LITTLE FURTHER AND THE ENGINE DIED ONCE AGAIN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AND GET IT TO MY MECHANIC. THE ENGINE ERROR CODE STATED THAT 2 OF THE 4 STARTER COILS FAILED. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE 2 STARTER COILS AND THE CAR DROVE FINE. AFTER THE CAR SPENT THE NIGHT IN MY GARAGE IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MECHANIC AND HE REPLACED THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR. THE CAR AGAIN RAN FINE FOR 1 DAY THAN AFTER THE OVERNIGHT IN THE GARAGE THE CAR WOULD NOT START. AT THE RECOMMENDATION OF MY MECHANIC I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO VALENTI TOYOTA IN WESTERLY. RI WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR A WEEK FIRST STATING THAT THE COMPUTER WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I POINTED OUT THAT TOYOTA HAD A RECALL OF COMPUTERS IN 2008 COROLLA AND SINCE MY CAR WAS BUILT IN 2008 DID THEY USE THE SAME FAULTY COMPUTERS? THEY STATED NO AND WOULD ORDER A NEW COMPUTER AND HAVE IT THE NEXT DAY. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP STATING THAT TOYOTA WOULD NOT RELEASE THE PART TO THEM AND THEY WOULD BE DEALING WITH THE REGIONAL PARTS ENGINEER. AFTER 4 DAYS AND STILL NO COMPUTER VALENTI TOYOTA CALLED ME BACK AND STATED THAT ALL 4 STARTER COILS NEEDED REPLACING AND THAT THE CAR IS RUNNING NOW. THE CHARGE FOR THE REPAIR WAS $768.52 (CUSTOMER #20437 AND INVOICE #TOCS275417) THIS DOES NOT MAKE A LOT OF SENSE TO ME AS I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A COMPANY NOT RELEASING PARTS TO ITS OWN DEALERSHIP. MY QUESTION IS DID MY CAR HAVE A FAULTY COMPUTER AND IS THIS A COVER-UP? WHY WOULD THE CAR ENGINE JUST STOP WHEN DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 60 MPH? LUCKILY I HAD NO ONE BEHIND ME AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO SAFETY. *TR
CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP TO IDENTIFY SPORADIC ODD "GRINDING" NOISE UPON COLD START. WAS FIRST TOLD IT WAS THE SERPENTINE BELT. REPLACED AND NEXT DAY NOISE WAS STILL THERE UPON COLD START. RETURNED AND DEALER THEN STATED IT WAS THE BENDIX IN THE STARTER. REPLACED STARTER. A MONTH LATER THE NOISE HAPPENED AGAIN AND SQUEALING FROM SERPENTINE BELT WAS STILL OCCURRING. THIRD TRIP TO DEALERSHIP AND I'M NOW TOLD THAT, LIKE MANY OTHER 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA OWNERS, THAT IT'S THE GEAR IN THE CAMSHAFT. THE SERPENTINE BELT SQUEAL IS FROM MY WATER PUMP LEAKING. NOW REPLACING WATER PUMP AND CAMSHAFT GEAR. $2000 IN REPAIRS THAT, FROM READING, TOYOTA IS AWARE OF! RIDICULOUS! THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. IF THE DEALERSHIPS STATE THAT THEIR TECHNICIANS ARE "CERTIFIED" THEN THEY SHOULD KNOW OF THIS PROBLEM AND NOT HAVE TO FIX THINGS THAT AREN'T BROKEN AT MY EXPENSE! *TR

THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK, ARM, AND BACK THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON. THE MECHANIC TELLS ME THAT BOTH REAR ABS SENSORS ARE BAD (CODES C0210 AND C0215). THIS IS A TOYOTA COROLLA 2009 LE WITH ONLY 81K MILES AND I HEAR THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTS IN SOME FRIEND'S CARS. WE HAVE LOTS OF SNOW IN CLEVELAND AREA AND IT IS RIDICULOUS NOT TO HAVE ABS WORKING BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. LOOKING AT DISCUSSION GROUPS, THIS SOUNDS LIKE A RECALL TO ME. *TR
2 RECALLS THAT I HAVE RECEIVED THROUGH THE MAIL. IM AFRAID DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AS THEY MENTION THAT WHEN THE LIGHT SHOW ON AIRBAGS 6 SECTIONS WE CAN GET INTO AN ACCIDENT DUE TO AIRBAGS BURSTING OUT.
TAKATA RECALL. WE RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE AND WERE TOLD THAT WE WOULD BE PUT ON A WAITING LIST FOR THE REPAIR. IT HAS BEEN 4 MONTHS AND WHEN WE CALLED TODAY, WERE TOLD THAT THEY HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANY PARTS FROM TOYOTA AT ALL AND THAT THERE ARE STILL 8 PAGES OF NAMES AHEAD OF US. MEANWHILE, SOMEONE USUALLY HAS TO RIDE IN THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT. MAYBE THE TOYOTA COMPANY THINKS IT IS JUST CHEAPER TO IGNORE THE RECALLS AND PAY THE LAW SUITE WHEN SOMEONE GETS KILLED.

MULTIPLE EPISODES OF ENGINE STALL WITHOUT WARNING. INSTRUMENT PANEL GOES BLACK AND COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. A FEW TIMES IT SPUTTERED AND BUCKED BEFORE IT STALLED. HAVE HAD IT IN TO TOYOTA TWICE NOW. THE FIRST TIME THEY WERE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE MALFUNCTION AND SAID IT WAS A LOOSE FUSE. I PICKED UP THE CAR AND IT STALLED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ANOTHER 4 TIMES. IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION WITH MY TODDLER GRANDSON IN THE BACK SEAT. ANOTHER TIME I WAS COMING OUT OF A DARK TUNNEL WITH A BLIND TURN DOING APPROX 55MPH AND ONLY BY THE GRACE OF GOD DID SOMEBODY NOT PLOW INTO THE BACK OF ME. IT COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. THE CAR IS BACK IN THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND HAS BEEN THERE FOR 4 WEEKS. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THEY CAN'T PERFORM ANY REPAIRS IF THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE MALFUNCTION. AFTER THE SMART TECHNOLOGY SOFTWARE WAS INSTALLED ON MY VEHICLE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WITH THE RECALLS TOYOTA HAS BEEN HAVING I FELT IT WAS NECESSARY TO TAKE MY CAR TO AN OUTSIDE ENTITY SO I TOOK MY CAR TO NTB FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND WAS TOLD THAT THE 02 SENSOR ON MY VEHICLE WAS FAILING, THE P02420 CATALYST WAS BELOW THRESHOLD. THE CONSENSUS WAS THAT WHEN THE SMART STOP WAS INSTALLED THAT THE 02 SENSORS SHOULD OF BEEN REPLACED AS WELL. IN ADDITION THE CODES WERE FLAGGED SHORTLY AFTER ECU UPDATE. WHY WAS THIS NOT DONE AS PART OF THE RECALL? THESE TWO GO HAND IN HAND. THE SMART STOP RECALL NEEDS TO BE RECALLED OR UPGRADED TO INCLUDE THE SENSORS. MY CAR SHUTTERS NOW WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR START, WHICH DID NOT OCCUR PRIOR TO THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT.. I DON'T KNOW WHEN IT WILL STOP ALTOGETHER AND NOT RESTART. WHILE TRAVELING NW ON HWY 99 THROUGH MERCED CA AT 08:30 AM NOV. 9, 2014, I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN ACCELERATION OF MY CAR WHILE IN CRUISE MODE GOING UP THE RAMP JUST AT THE NW EDGE OF MERCED. IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE TILL THE RPM GAUGE WAS INTO THE RED. AT THE SAME TIME, I WAS VERY TENSE, MANEUVERING IN TRAFFIC WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES IN AN EFFORT TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP, WHICH HEATED UP UNTIL THEY WERE BARELY WORKING. I SHUT THE MOTOR OFF WHILE IN DRIVE AND TURNED IT BACK ON A FEW TIMES AND EACH TIME THE ENGINE WENT RIGHT INTO HIGH REV MODE AGAIN. I FINALLY PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO N AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ABOUT A MILE OR SO FROM WHERE THE PROBLEM STARTED, REGAINED MY COMPOSURE AND ALLOWED THE CAR TO SIT A FEW MINUTES. I TRIED THE ENGINE STARTER AND THINGS SEEMED NORMAL AGAIN SO I CAUTIOUSLY EXITED THE HIGHWAY ABOUT A 1/4 MILE FROM WHERE I HAD STOPPED. THINGS CONTINUED TO ACT NORMALLY SO I CAME BACK HOME 18 MILES AND HAD NO MORE PROBLEMS. WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS CAR? KEEP DRIVING IT THIS WAY? TAKE IT BACK TO TOYOTA? WIPERS STOPPED WORKING ON ALL SPEEDS. THIS IMPACTS DRIVING IN THE RAIN, ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEEDS. WIPERS ARE NOW ONLY ONE SPEED AND I NEED TO PULL OVER IF IT IS POURING. THERE IS A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE ROAD SURFACES CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO JERK AND CREATES A RATTLING CLUNK NOISE AND LOW SPEEDS. IF THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK SIDE TO SIDE, THE APPARENT NOISE IS CLICKING. I SUSPECT THIS IS A FAULTY STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE CAR TENDS TO DRIFT OUT OF THE LANE. UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES CAUSES THE WHEEL TO JERK AT CITY AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WHEEL BALANCING AND VEHICLE ALIGNMENT WERE PERFORMED. THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE INSTALLATION, TOYOTA SAID I FIRST HAD TO HAVE AN INSPECTION BECAUSE I HAD ACTUALLY EXPERIENCED AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION THOUGH THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OR INJURY. I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN WHICH I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM BACK IN 2011 AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING THE CAR IN TO BE LOOKED AT. WHEN I ARRIVED, I WAS BASICALLY TOLD THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THEY COULD DO UNTIL THE REMEDY FOR THE RECALLED AIRBAG BECAME AVAILABLE. I THEN ASKED HOW LONG IT WOULD BE, AND WAS TOLD IT COULD BE SEVERAL MORE MONTHS. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY COROLLA FOR SEVERAL WEEKS NOW, SINCE IT IS MY ONLY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION WITH A DEFECTIVE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG. I STARTED NOTICING A KNOCKING IN MY ENGINE. I REPORTED IT TO THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON 9-9-14. I WAS TOLD BY THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT( THE ONE THAT HAS DONE ALL OF MY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE) " NO ABNORMAL SOUNDS HEARD AT THIS TIME." IN HIND SIGHT MAYBE THEY DIDN'T HEAR THE NOISE BECAUSE SHE WAS LOW ON OIL AND ONLY LISTEND FOR THE NOISE AFTER THE OIL CHANGE. I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT I SHOULD CHECK MY OIL FOR LEAKAGE IN BETWEEN MY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE! I CHECKED MY OIL ONE DAY AT RANDOM AFTER I HEARD KNOCKING AGAIN AND SHE WAS VERY LOW ON OIL. I TOOK HER TO TOYOTA AND TOLD THEM SHE WAS CONSUMING OIL. THEY SUGGESTED A FUEL INDUCTION SERVICE FOR WHICH THEY DID ON 1-12-17, WHICH DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. ON 9-12-17 AT HER NEXT APPOINTMENT I REPORTED AGAIN THE OIL USAGE.OUTCOME; " PERFORMED INSPECTION, FOUND SLIGHT OIL SEEPAGE AT ENGINE OIL PAN. PCV SYSTEM IS WORKING. ENGINE MUST BE BURNING OIL. PISTONS AND RINGS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED." BIG SURPRISE THERE. I WAS SO NAIVE BUT I DID TAKE HER TO DIFFERENT TOYOTA SERVICE PLACE FOR A SECOND OPINION. AND YES YOU GUESSED IT ANOTHER ENGINE OIL CLEANER SERVICE. AND SUGGESTED PISTON AND RINGS REPLACED. IT WAS A MECHANIC FRIEND THAT WE TOOK HER TO THAT KINDLY DID SOME SEARCHING AND FOUND THAT TOYOTA HAD ISSUED A TSB ON AUGUST 11, 2011[1](# FN:1) TO DEALERSHIPS WHICH SAYS: " SOME 2006-2011 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 2AZ-FE ENGINE MAY EXHIBIT ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE PISTON ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN CHANGED TO MINIMIZE OIL CONSUMPTION." AND THAT PO3O# (CYLINDER # MISFIRE DETECTED) DTC MAY ALSO BE SET AS A RESULT OF OIL CONSUPTION" OBVIOUSLY THERE WAS THERE IS A DESIGN ERROR OF THE PISTONS.

AFTER A QUICK SEARCH ONLINE, THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION ON MY '09 COROLLA S. THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST DESCRIBED IN A 2010 TOYOTA TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (T-SB-0282-10), BUT TOYOTA DID NOT EXTEND THE WARRANTY DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE SYNCHRO RING IN MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE WAS APPARENTLY DOOMED TO FAIL AT SOME POINT UNLESS THE LOCK BALL SPRING STRENGTH WAS INCREASED TO REDUCE STRESS ON THE 3RD GEAR SYNCHRO. FOR ANYONE WHO DIDN'T SHOW SYMPTOMS BEFORE THEIR WARRANTY EXPIRED (LIKE ME), THEY WERE JUST A TICKING TIME BOMB.

THE VSC LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ALL ARE ON. CANNOT GET TO TURN OFF. *TR
I WAS DRIVING BACK HOME AND SLOWED DOWN WITH THE INTENTION OF STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC INTERSECTION. MY BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE AT THE NORMAL LEVEL OF PRESSURE THAT I USE, AND I HAD TO PRESS IT ALL THE WAY DOWN. WHEN THE BRAKE WAS SLAMMED ALL THE WAY DOWN THE BRAKES DID ENGAGE, BUT THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING UP AND THE RPM METER WAS TO ITS MAXIMUM. I DID NOT TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKES BECAUSE I KNEW IF I DID, THE CAR WOULD HAVE TRAVELLED AT 120MPH. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED THE HANDBRAKE LEVER UP, CHANGED THE GEAR TO PARK, AND SWITCHED OFF THE IGNITION. I AM JUST HAPPY TO BE ALIVE TODAY, AND AM VERY THANKFUL FOR MY PRESENCE OF MIND. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND TOWED THE CAR TO THE NEAREST TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. WE DID TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP A WEEK BACK TO DO A SOFTWARE UPGRADE AND A COUPLE OF OTHER RECALLS, AND THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION THAT I EXPERIENCED HAPPENED A WEEK AFTER THAT. TOYOTA AFTER THEIR INVESTIGATION CONCLUDED THAT THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR WERE ENGAGED AT THE SAME TIME. THEY ARE ESSENTIALLY SAYING THAT MY 5.5 SHOE SIZE FOOT WAS BOTH ON THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME. I DID LOOK AT MY FOOT TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS INDEED ON THE BRAKES WHEN THE CAR WAS REVVING UP. SO I CAN SAY WITH 100% CERTAINTY THAT MY FOOT WAS ONLY ON THE BRAKE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SLAMMED ALL THE WAY DOWN. LIKE IN PREVIOUS CASES E.G. OKLAHOMA COURT CASE, TOYOTA IS BLAMING THE DRIVER WHEN IN FACT, THE SOFTWARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THROTTLE CONTROL WAS CLEARLY SHOWN TO HAVE OVER 85000 BUGS BY EXPERT TESTIMONY GIVEN IN THE OKLAHOMA CASE. DEALER DID SMART STOP TECHNOLOGY, UPON PICKING UP CAR NOTICED IT RUNNING ROUGH. AFTER DRIVING A FEW MILES IT SEEMED TO IMPROVE. OVER A PERIOD OF A FEW MONTHS AND APPROX 3000 MILES ENGINE PERFORMANCE AND FUEL MILEAGE HAVE GOTTEN MUCH WORSE, MILEAGE HAS DROPPED OFF ALMOST 10 MPG! TOOK THE CAR IN FOR NYSI TODAY AND ASKED DEALER ABOUT THIS. WAS TOLD BY SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THE CAR HAD TO RELEARN CERTAIN FUNCTIONS. ASKED HOW LONG THIS SHOULD TAKE AND WAS TOLD A FEW MONTHS? I SAID TO THEM THEY IT HAS ALREADY BEEN A FEW MONTHS AND ABOUT 3000 MILES. TO ME THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I WILL GIVE IT A COUPLE THOUSAND MORE MILES AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
