TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE AT SPEEDS OF 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. HE WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND ADVISED HIM THAT ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE, HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V017000: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ACCELERATOR PEDAL. ANY REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE WOULD BE AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. AN INVESTIGATOR WAS ALSO SENT TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,500 UPDATED 04-15-10 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE FIRST OCCURRENCE OF THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION THE DEALER STATED HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE SPEED WAS AROUND 50-55 ALMOST RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO RE-GAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY PROBLEMS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. HE STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND RESISTANT WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BEAR TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT OFTEN TIMES WITHOUT DRIVER INTENT. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE OWNER AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND VERIFIED THAT THE FAILURE DOES EXIST. WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKES WOULD FEEL AS IF THEY WERE NOT ENGAGING, THEN THEY WOULD IMMEDIATELY RESPOND AND LUNGE THE VEHICLE FORWARD. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO CORRECT THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 13,300.
I WAS DRIVING IN THE LEFT LANE ON GSP (NJ) AT 65MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING WAS NOT RESPONDING PROPERLY AND THE CAR WAS SWINGING BETWEEN LANES. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE BRAKES AND SLOWED DOWN AND THAN MOVED INTO THE RIGHT MOST LANE. ON THAT DAY IT WAS LITTLE WINDY AND I NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE CAUSE BUT I HAVE DRIVEN OTHER CARS AND NEVER FACED THIS ISSUE. *TR
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES (2009 TOYOTA COROLLA LE 38,000MILES) ON THE SNOW OR SLICK CONDITION ROAD THE WHEELS WOULD CONSTANTLY STOP/ROTATE AS SOON I WOULD PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PREVENTED ME FROM STOPPING UNTIL THE CAR SLID INTO A DRY SPOT, CURB, OR SNOW BANK. IT SEEMED AS IF THE BRAKES WERE OVER SENSITIVE CAUSING THE BRAKES TO IMMEDIATELY RESPOND WITH THE CONSTANT STOP/ROTATE. FOR A COUPLE OF SNOW FALLS (09/10 SEASON) I DEALT WITH THIS BY SLOWING DOWN AND USING THE BRAKES WAY BEFORE MY INTENDED STOPS. ON 1/7/10 AS I WAS COMING OVER A SLIGHT DECLINE I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE IN RESPONSE TO A VAN ABOUT 150 FEET IN FRONT OF ME AT A RED LIGHT WHICH CAUSED THE CAR REAR END TO WHIP AROUND TO THE FRONT ACROSS ONCOMING TRAFFIC LAND INTO A SNOW BANK. AT THAT POINT THE CAR WAS STUCK AND HAD TO BE PULLED OUT. ALTHOUGH THE TIRES STILL HAD SUFFICIENT TREAD ON THEM (NO BALDING) I REPLACED ALL THE TIRES. THAT STOPPED THE OVER SENSITIVE REACTION WITH THE BRAKES. *TR
TIRE INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON AFTER DRIVING 20 -40 MILES. REPLACED FRONT PASSENGER TIRE IN JANUARY 2010 TO SEE IF THAT REMEDIED SITUATION THOUGH DID NOT. DEALERSHIP HAS EVALUATED CAR THREE TIMES BEFORE INSTALLING NEW SENSORS. AFTER NEW SENSORS REPLACED FEBRUARY 2010, TIRE INDICATOR LIGHT RESUMES TO LIGHT MARCH 2010 VEHICLE SEEN YESTERDAY AT DEALERSHIP, DEALERSHIP STATES ALL TIRES AT 20 POUNDS, READJUSTED TO 32. DEALERSHIP STATES SOMEONE IS TAMPERING WITH TIRE PRESSURE THOUGH DUE TO MY SITUATION I HAVE ONLY ALLOWED THE DEALERSHIP TO LOOK AT MY VEHICLE AS IT IS UNDER WARRANTY. LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN 3/12/10. NOTIFIED DEALERSHIP OF LIGHT MALFUNCTION AGAIN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THERE WAS A ROUGH AND EXTREMELY LOW ENGINE IDLE. THE FAILURE WAS SPORADIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO REMEDY FOR THE EXPERIENCED FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,021. WE WERE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. A TRAFFIC LIGHT CHANGED AND A CAR WAS IN FRONT OF US. I LET OFF THE GAS TO BEGIN STOPPING BUT THE ACCELERATOR STUCK. I HAD TO STOMP THE BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR. MY WIFE THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF US. *TR

2009 TOYOTA COROLLA S BRAKES WERE FAILING TO STOP SOUND AS IF BRAKES WERE METAL TO METAL. LOUD GRINDING NOSE AND UNEVEN CONTACT WITH BRAKE DISC. TWO ACCIDENTS WERE BARELY AVOIDED BECAUSE VEHICLE INABILITY TO STOP IN A REASONABLE DISTANCE. EXCESSIVE PRESSURE WAS PUT ON TO THE PEDAL TO FINALLY BRING VEHICLE TO A STOP. CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND A DETERMINATION WAS MADE THAT THE VEHICLE HAD OVER 60%OF PAD WEAR LEFT. WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO AN OUTSIDE MECHANIC WHICH DETERMINED THAT THE ROTOR HAD BECOME UNEVEN WARPED AND CUPPED IN SEVERAL PLACES AND THE PADS DETERIORATING AND WERE DEFECTIVE. WE HAD BOTH REPLACED AT AN EXPENSE OF OVER 500.00. *TR
I RECENTLY READ ABOUT THE POWER STEERING ISSUE BEING PROBED IN 2009-10 TOYOTA COROLLAS. THE SYMPTOMS THAT I READ ABOUT ARE EXACTLY WHAT I EXPERIENCE IN MY 2009 COROLLA. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. WHILE STEERING IN A STRAIGHT DIRECTION THE STEERING WHEEL REQUIRED EXTREME FORCE. UNEXPECTEDLY, THE STEERING PULLED TO THE LEFT DIRECTION. THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL; CRASHED INTO A DITCH AND STRUCK A TREE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE. ALSO, THE STEERING WHEEL MOVED TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT DIRECTION WITHOUT ASSISTANCE WHENEVER TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000. TAKATA RECALL - NO REMEDY AS OF OCTOBER 5, 2017
2009 TOYOTA COROLLA WITH IDLE CONTROL ISSUES INCLUDING SLOW TO RETURN TO IDLE ON OCCASION. VEHICLE HAS HAD BRAKE VACUUM RECALL COMPLETED AND JUST TODAY THE GAS PEDAL REPAIR. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I FEEL IT IS UP IN THE FUEL CONTROL SYSTEMS AND HAVE TOLD THE DEALER THIS EACH TIME STARTING BACK ON 12/30/09. TOYOTA CORPORATE HAS GIVEN ME A CASE NUMBER BUT THE PERSON HANDLING THE CASE HAS NEVER CALLED AND IS NEVER AVAILABLE. COLD ENGINE ALWAYS HAS HIGH IDLE UP UNTIL FULL OPERATING TEMPERATURE. IT FLUCTUATES FREQUENTLY. ONCE FULL OPERATING TEMPERATURE IS REACHED IT THEN GOES TO A NORMAL IDLE BUT THEN FREQUENTLY STUMBLES AND DROPS BY 200 RPM. ON A FEW TIMES DURING EACH DRIVE OF 45 MINUTES OR MORE IT IS NOTICEABLE THAT THE RPMS ARE SLOW TO RETURN TO IDLE AND VEHICLE KEEPS SPEED WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS. *TR
MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA HAS A STEERING PROBLEM. THE STEERING IS TOO SENSITIVE. IF I LOOK DOWN FOR JUST A SECOND OR TWO, THE CAR DRIFTS OFF THE ROAD OR IT DRIFTS INTO OTHER LANES QUICKLY. IT IS ESPECIALLY BAD WHEN THE WIND BLOWS. IT HAPPENS ALL OF THE TIME ESPECIALLY DURING MEDIUM TO HIGH SPEEDS. IT CONTRIBUTED TO TWO SEPARATED ACCIDENTS WHERE THE CAR DRIFTED INTO THE GUARDRAIL CAUSING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN DAMAGE. *TR
RUNAWAY TOYOTA...I WAS EXITING I-8 E ON LAKE MURRAY EXIT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND WHILE SLOWING THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND HIT THE CAR AHEAD WHICH IT TURN HIT THE CAR AHEAD OF IT. NO ONE HURT. *TR

THE DEALER HAS NOT INFORMED THE CONTACT ABOUT ANY REPAIRS OR UPDATES ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,212.

I AM THE OWNER OF 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. I HAVE TO PRESS MY BRAKE PEDAL HARD AND ALMOST ALL THE WAY DOWN TO MAKE MY CAR TO STOP. PURCHASED A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA ON JAN. 31, 2009. IMMEDIATELY NOTICED "UNWANTED ACCELERATION", THE CAR WANTED TO GO WHEN STOPPED UNLESS THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED HARD AND DID NOT SLOW DOWN IMMEDIATELY WHEN FOOT WAS TAKEN OFF THE GAS PEDAL. GAS PEDAL DID NOT ALWAYS COME ALL THE WAY UP WHEN FOOT TAKEN OFF, BUT WOULD POP UP IF BRAKES APPLIED HARD. CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. MENTIONED CONCERN SEVERAL TIMES TO TOYOTA SERVICE DEPT. THEY TOLD ME THAT WHAT I WAS DESCRIBING WAS NORMAL FOR THOSE CARS. THE CAR WAS IN AN ACCIDENT ON 12/22/09. HIT ANOTHER CAR FROM BEHIND. I THINK THAT THE "NOT SLOWING DOWN IMMEDIATELY WHEN FOOT TAKEN OFF GAS PEDAL" WAS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THE ACCIDENT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES BUT THE CAR WAS BADLY DAMAGED. WHEN STARTING TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE FOR THE FIRST TIME OF THE DAY, AND IT IS COLD OUT, WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE REAR BRAKES MAKE VERY LOUD CLUNKING NOISES LIKE SOMETHING IS BROKEN INSIDE THE BRAKE ASSEMBLIES ON BOTH REAR WHEELS. THIS WAS THE SECOND ACCIDENT IN THIS CAR. REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. CAR WAS NEARLY TOTALED WITH $9,700 IN DAMAGE PRIMARILY TO THE FRONT END. AIR BAGS NEVER ACTIVATED. PRIOR ACCIDENT ONE WEEK EARLIER WHERE THE AIR BAGS ALSO FAILED TO ACTIVATE. AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY AND TOYOTA WILL NOT DIAGNOSE OR FIX UNLESS THEY SEE THE LIGHT ON. *TR
OUR 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER ON THE HIGHWAY. CONSTANTLY HAVE TO MAKE CORRECTIONS TO KEEP IT IN THE LANE. THIS IS A CONSTANT PROBLEM AND NOT A SINGLE INCIDENT. *TR
DRIVING MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA WESTBOUND AND WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION WHERE THE LIGHT WAS RED. I SLOWED DOWN ON MY APPROACH TO THE TRAFFIC LIGHT AND APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP CAR FOR THE RED LIGHT. THE CAR SLOWED BUT WOULD NOT STOP. HE SAW ME COMING SPED UP HIS VEHICLE (ALSO GIVING ME THE FINGER) I SWERVED TO MY RIGHT TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I HAD DRIVEN THROUGH THE RED LIGHT BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND IMMEDIATELY THE CAR ACCELERATED WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE AGAIN AND BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE SPEED LIMIT. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED SHORTLY AFTER TOYOTA MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THEIR FLOOR MATS. I STOPPED THE CAR AND CHECKED MY FLOOR MAT AND IT WAS NOT IN THE WAY AT ALL OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. *TR

ONE MONTH AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT THE SAME FAILURE REOCCURRED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 10V017000: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE.THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS AT 8000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 9000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH OUT OF HER DRIVEWAY, SUDDENLY, THE "MALFUNCTION" INDICATOR LAMP ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE. THE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO RODENTS EATING THE SOY BASED WIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURE ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE FAILURE CONTINUES WITH NO RESOLUTIONS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,837 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,200.

I WAS DRIVING 15 MPH IN 33 DEGREE TEMP. I GAVE IT A LITTLE GAS AT THE BOTTOM OF A SMALL HILL AND MY CAR WENT IN TO A FISH TAIL. I CORRECTED THIS ABOUT 6 TIMES BEFORE I COULD NOT RECOVER. MY CAR HIT THE DITCH ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND FLIPPED ON IT'S ROOF. PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT MY WHEEL WOULD ALMOST TAKE CONTROL OF THE CAR BETWEEN ABOVE 30 MPH. THE CAR WOULD SWERVE ALL OVER MY LANE. I THOUGHT THIS WAS JUST ME, NOW I SEE MANY OTHERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM ALSO. QUESTION BEING..... I NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING ON MY COROLLA. THE CAR HAD 12,116 MILES ON IT WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALER. THE PROBLEM I EXPERIENCED WAS THAT IT SEEMED THAT I HAD TO WRESTLE WITH THE WHEEL TO KEEP THE CAR FROM DRIFTING SIDE TO SIDE. IT HAD NOT HAPPENED DURING THE FIRST 12,000 MILES. THE CONSUMER STATED HIS SPEED WAS ABOUT 20 MPH WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES ON ABOUT 1/4 INCH OF SNOW WHICH HAD JUST STARTED TO FALL. I PURCHASED A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA IN NOVEMBER 2009. I HAD ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES SLIPPING TO THE FLOOR 2 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE. THIS WOULD HAPPEN WHEN I WOULD TRY TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN OR COME TO A STOP. IT HAPPENED SPORADICALLY. I HAD MANY NEAR COLLISIONS AND WENT OFF THE ROAD INTO SNOWBANKS SEVERAL TIMES TO AVOID HITTING OTHER CARS. TOYOTA KEPT SAYING NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR AFTER CHECKING THE BRAKES. IN SEPTEMBER, I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR THE HYDRAULIC SERVICE BRAKE RECALL. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. ON DECEMBER 8 & 9 THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR TWICE WHEN I TRIED TO STOP AT STOP SIGNS. I ALMOST GOT KILLED AVOIDING OTHER CARS AT INTERSECTIONS. ONCE AGAIN, THE DEALERSHIP TRIED TO DUPLICATE THE SITUATION AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I TOLD THEM I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE AN UNSAFE CAR WHICH WILL END UP CRASHING AT SOME POINT FROM A FAULTY BRAKE SYSTEM. THEY SAID THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING. I HAVE A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA XRS AND LIVING IN NORTHERN CANADA. DURING EXTREME TEMPERATURES IN THE -30 AND ABOVE WHILE DRIVING AT 50 KM/HR OR HIGHER CLUTCH PEDAL WILL STIFFEN TO THE POINT THAT AT SOMETIMES IT WILL HESITATE TO RETURN TO POSITION AND WILL POP BACK AND CLUTCH NOT ENGAGING RIGHT AWAY CAUSING SLIPPAGE AT THAT POINT. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL STIFFENS DURING THIS TIME, I KNOW THAT THE CLUTCH AND BRAKE ARE ON THE SAME HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. CLUTCH PEDAL WILL BEGIN TO LOOSEN WHEN DRIVING IN TRAFFIC OR STOPPED FOR EXTENDED PERIODS IDLING, AS I BELIEVE THIS IS BECAUSE THERE'S NOT MUCH COLD AIR BLOWING THROUGH THE FRONT OF VEHICLE AT SLOW SPEEDS AS IT'S WARMING THE SLAVE CYLINDER. AS IT WAS DOING THIS AT ONE POINT I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE TEMPERATURE OF THE SLAVE CYLINDER AND IT WAS EXTREMELY COLD TO TOUCH. THE ACTION INITIATED AFTER HE DEPRESSED THE PEDAL TO ACCELERATE ALONG WITH OTHER TRAFFIC. THE CAR WAS REPAIR BY THE INSURANCE BUT STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM.
