DRIVING NORTH BOUND ON I-90 IN LANE 2 FROM THE RIGHT SIDE, APPROACHING NEAR THE NORTH CUMBERLAND AVE OVER PASS AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, WHEN IT APPEARED THE AUTO IN FRONT WAS SLOWING DOWN I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY DID NOT ENGAGE OR SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. WITH VEHICLE 1 RAPIDLY GAINING ON THE AUTO IN FRONT OF IT, I SWITCHED OVER TO LANE 1 QUICKLY TO AVOID STRIKING THE VEHICLE FROM BEHIND, WHEN THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE, THE SPEED CONTINUED TO INCREASE, WHEN IT APPEARED I WAS GOING TO HIT THE WALL TO THE RIGHT OF THE SAFETY LANE, I CUT BACK INTO LANE 1 AND THE CAR, NOW GOING AT AN UNCONTROLLABLE HIGHER RATE OF SPEED, MADE ALMOST A COMPLETE LEFT ACROSS ALL 3 LANES STRIKING VEHICLE 2 IN THE 3RD LANE ON THE RIGHT REAR DOOR, WHEN SPINNING OFF OF VEHICLE 2 THE LEFT REAR OF VEHICLE 1 STRUCK THE WALL MAKING THE VEHICLE COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. *TR

WHENEVER THE CONTACT STARTS THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED THAT ALL BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS AND POWER STEERING LIGHT WOULD APPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD, MOMENTS LATER THE CONTACT WOULD LOOSE ALL POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE SERVICED BUT THE CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT SERVICE WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 3000. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING OUR COROLLA SPORT IN NOVEMBER 2009. WHILE TURNING THE CORNER AT AN INTERSECTION HER STEERING WHEEL LOCKED IN THE TURNING POSITION BRIEFLY AND THEN BEGAN TO WORK AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED AS HE WAS DRIVING AT 60-70MPH THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. AS HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND DOES NOT HAVE ANY FAILURES BECAUSE HIS VIN NUMBER STARTS WITH A "J'". THE VIN NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE UTILIZING THE CRUISE CONTROL AT SPEEDS OF 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,500.
2009 TOYOTA COROLLA, "S" AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE PROBLEM WAS INITIALLY IDENTIFIED BY ME WHEN MY CAR WOULD NOT CATCH WHILE ON A SLOPE IN DRIVE. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD ROLL BACK. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS WAS NORMAL DUE TO A LOSS OF PRESSURE, HOWEVER IT WOULD DO IT EVEN IF I BARLEY STOPPED ON A GRADUAL INCLINE FOR A FEW SECONDS. THIS HAS CAUSED ME TO ROLL BACK UNLESS I HAD ONE FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND ONE FOOT ON THE GAS WHILE TO KEEP ME STEADY TO START. THIS HAPPENED AT FROM THE TIME I PURCHASED THE CAR. RECENTLY, I MY ENGINE HAS BEEN RUNNING REALLY ROUGH AND WINDING AT A HIGH PITCH WHILE DRIVING. IT NOW INTERMITTENTLY GOES BETWEEN GEARS AND DOWNSHIFTS AUTOMATICALLY INTO GEARS THAT ARE NOT APPROPRIATE FOR THE SPEEDS TRAVELING. THIS CAUSES A DRASTIC DOWN SPEED, AND EXAMPLE IS I WILL BE ON THE FREEWAY TRAVELING SPEEDS BETWEEN 50-65 AND IT WILL DOWNSHIFT AND REDUCE MY SPEED TO 40 MPH OR LESS, THEN I WILL TRY TO ACCELERATE AND IT WILL REDLINE OUT, AS IF I AM IN NEUTRAL AND I WILL HAVE NO CONTROL TO REGAIN SPEED UNTIL IT AUTOMATICALLY PUSHES ITSELF BACK INTO GEAR, AND THEN INCREASES MY SPEED AT A RAPID PACE, WITHOUT ME PUTTING MY FOOT ON THE GAS. AT THIS POINT, I AM REQUIRED TO PLACE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO CONTROL MY SPEEDS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TAKEN MY CAR BACK TWICE AND CLAIMED TO HAVE FIXED IT TWICE BASED ON THE READS, BUT I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE READS ON THE COMPUTER WILL SAY THAT IT IS AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION... HOWEVER THEY CAN NOT IDENTIFY WHERE THE MALFUNCTION IS COMING FROM. PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED AND NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE TO FIX THIS AT THIS TIME. TOYOTA IS NOT ASSISTING WITH THE RECALL AND I AM LEFT WITH LOTS OF SHOP HOURS. THINKING ABOUT REGISTERING FOR THE LEMON LAW ABOUT MY CAR, I DRIVE APX. 1000 MILES WEEK AND MY CAR IS NOT SAVING, CONSISTENT, AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE HAVE NO CONTROL WHILE MY CAR MALFUNCTIONS. I CAN ONLY REACT TO WHAT IS HAPPENING. IT ALSO MAKES A LOUD CLUNKING SOUND, AND A HIGH WINDING SOUND WHEN REDLINING. *TR
ACCELERATOR DEPRESSES SLOWLY FORCING THE USE OF EXTRA BRAKE PRESSURE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA WHICH WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED WHILE DRIVING HOME THE DEALER AT SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 60 MPH, THERE WAS MINIMAL RESISTANCE IN THE STEERING WHEEL. HE HAD TO CONTINUE MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL SIX INCHES BACK AND FORTH AND FROM LEFT TO RIGHT IN ORDER TO KEEP THE WHEEL STRAIGHT WHILE DRIVING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HIM THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. HE EXPERIENCED THE "LOOSE" FEELING IN THE STEERING WHEEL INTERMITTENTLY EVERY TIME HE DROVE THE VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY IN WINDY WEATHER CONDITIONS. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,500. UPDATED 04/13/10. *LJ THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON FOUR OCASSIONSS. SORRY, THIS MIGHT SOUND TRITE GIVEN ALL OF THE SERIOUSNESS WITH THE TOYOTA GAS PEDAL PROBLEMS. BUT I FEEL IT NEEDS TO BE DOCUMENTED. WE PURCHASED A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHAT I NOTICED ABOUT THE GAS PEDAL IS THAT IT DOESN'T PRESS VERY SMOOTHLY, YOU HAVE TO BABY IT, OR YOU GET A JACK RABBIT START. BUT THAT IS NOT WHY I AM WRITING. WE GET MICE IN THE CAR ON A REGULAR BASIS. THERE ARE APPARENTLY GAPS THAT ALLOW FOR MICE TO GET IN. THEY CHEW ON THINGS, EAT FOOD AND PEE. IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE THERE SHOULD BE GAPS BIG ENOUGH TO ALLOW THIS TYPE OF ACCESS. I LOOKED BELOW AND THERE IS A LOT OF GAP SPACE BETWEEN THE BOOT AROUND THE STEERING SHAFT. AGAIN I KNOW THIS SOUNDS TRIVIAL. BUT IF A MOUSE CAN GET IN, SO CAN OTHER CREATURES...A SNAKE? IMAGINE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND HAVING SOME CRITTER APPEAR AND SCARE THE DAYLIGHTS OUT OF YOU. AS AN OWNER OF 2009 COROLLA I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT RECALL FOR BRAKE FAILURE IN EXTREMELY LOW TEMPERATURES. TOYOTA HAS LIMITED ITS RECALL AND REPAIR OF THIS PROBLEM ONLY TO CERTAIN STATES. I LIVE IN NW INDIANA, LESS THAN 4 MILES FROM ILLINOIS STATE LINE. ILLINOIS OWNERS WILL HAVE THEIR BRAKES FIXED; INDIANA IS NOT ON THE LIST. TOYOTA?S STATE RESTRICTION DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. NW INDIANA HAS THE SAME WEATHER AS CHICAGO, IL AND THE SAME EXTREME LOW TEMPERATURES. ADDITIONALLY, I CONDUCT A HUGE PORTION OF MY BUSINESS AND PERSONAL MATTERS IN THE STATE OF ILLINOIS. I WILL HAVE TO DRIVE MY CAR KNOWING THAT BRAKES CAN FAIL ON ME ON ANY GIVEN DAY WITH THE EXTREME LOW TEMPERATURES (AND WE HAVE MONTHS OF SUCH DAYS AHEAD). I HAVE A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. IT ACCELERATED WHILE I WAS WAITING FOR THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TO TURN RED TO GREEN. THE RPM SHOT UP SO I PUT IN NEUTRAL AND THEN THE RPM RAPIDLY SHOT UP TO THE RED MARK SO THE TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND PARKED IT AT MY WORK SINCE EVENING OF 11/05/09. *TR

ON JAN. 5, 2010, IN THE GWINNETT COUNTY GA. RECORDER'S COURT, I PLED "NOLO CONTENDERE" TO THE CHARGE OF "FAILURE TO MAINTAIN SAFE EQUIPMENT". *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE SHE PUT HER FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL LIGHTLY THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO 125MPH AND STOPPED WHEN IT CRASHED INTO PRIVATE HOME WALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE TOW-YARD. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOTAL THE VEHICLE. SHE WILL HAVE AN ATTORNEY INSPECT THE VEHICLE. SHE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER TO ADVISE THAT THE SHE WILL HAVE LEGAL ACTIONS TAKEN. SHE RECEIVED INJURIES TO THE UPPER BODY. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10, 0000. THE POLICE REPORT INFO WAS NOT AVAILABLE. SHE ALSO STATED THAT IN MARCH OF 2008 SHE ALSO EXPERIENCED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION WITH THE 1999 TOYOTA AND THIS VEHICLE WAS ALSO A TOTAL LOSS.
I OWN A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA THAT HAS HAD NUMEROUS INCIDENTS OF NOT STARTING. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START AFTER SITTING FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, HOWEVER, IT WILL START AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO DO SO. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN APRIL 2008. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE IN THE SHOP ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE AND THEY TELL ME THEY CANNOT FIND A CAUSE FOR THIS. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED FOUR OTHER TIMES THAT I DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE GARAGE SINCE THEY INFORMED ME THEY COULD NOT FIX IT IF IT WOULD NOT REPEAT THE BEHAVIOR. THE OCCURRENCE IS VERY SPORADIC AND THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. THE LAST TIME IT WAS IN THE GARAGE THEY PLACED A FUEL ADDITIVE IN THE GAS TANK TO FIX THE PROBLEM... STILL NO RESOLVE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM A DALLAS COWBOY GAME WITH MY GRANDSON ON A RURAL ROAD. THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND LIGHTS STARTING FLASHING. IT ALMOST CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. I HAD NO STEERING CONTROL FOR A SHORT PERIOD. THE ENGINEWARNING LIGHT CONTINUED TO FLASH. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME AT ABOUT 25 MILES PER HOUR. I CALLED THE DEALER IN ABILENE TEXAS AND WAS TOLD TO HAVE THE CAR TOED. THEY COULD NOT OR WOULD NOT TELL ME WHAT HAD HAPPEN. THEY DID TELL ME THAT THEY GOT IT TO REPEAT WHAT I HAD HAPPEN, BUT DID NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED SOONER WHILE ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, I BELIEVE THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A COMPUTER PROBLEM WITH THE CAS. THE CAR ONLY HAD 5000 MILES AND I WAS NOT COMPENSATED FOR THE TOWING AS PROMISED. *TR
2009 COROLLA ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING IS REALLY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND I HAVE TO CONTINUOUSLY FIGHT TO KEEP THE CAR IN THE LANE OF TRAVEL.. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT A SIMPLE SNEEZE WILL CAUSE ME TO HAVE A HEAD-ON COLLISION. *TR

AFTER THIS OCCURRED AROUND JAN. 2010 I HEARD THE COROLLAS WERE DOING A RECALL ABOUT THE GAS PEDAL AND I FIGURED THATS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND ITS BEEN THREE WEEKS SINCE I LAST HEARD FROM THEM. THERE IS A CLAIM OPENED BUT I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MY CAR OR WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN. *TR
MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA HAS HAD PROBLEMS SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN JAN. 2009. IT WAS SEEMED TO DOWN SHIFT - THEY FOUND NOTHING THE HORN WENT OUT. FIXED TWO WIRES THAT WERE SEPARATED, (THEY SAID) AFTER THE WIRES WERE FIXED, IT LEFT ME IN THE ROAD, STRANDED. WOULD NOT START, MAKING A TERRIBLE NOISE. WRECKER TOWED IT IN. THEY RECALIBRATED THE COMPUTER. THEN I DROVE IT ON A TRIP FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE CALIBRATION AND WHEN I PRESSED ON BRAKE IT WOULD REV AND SEEM TO SPEED FOR A MOMENT. I TOOK IT IN AND NOTHING FOUND. LANDERS IN LITTLE ROCK, AR IS WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND TAKE IT FOR SERVICE. THERE ARE RECALLS ON MY 2009 COROLLA FOR BRAKE PROBLEMS, AND OTHER MODEL CARS OF THE COROLLA HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SURGING PROBLEM WHILE BRAKING. I'M IN A SITUATION TO WHERE I'M MAKING A PAYMENT ON A CAR THAT I'M ABSOLUTELY AFRAID TO DRIVE. PLEASE HELP ME. I KNOW THEY HAVEN'T DRIVEN THE CAR AS I HAVE. THEY ONLY TEST DRIVE AT THEIR DEALERSHIP. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY SLOW IN ACCELERATING AND WOULD NOT PICK UP SPEED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR FAILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WAS WATER IN THE FUEL TANK AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDINGLY AND THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO EXHIBIT A SPORADIC 'BUMP' WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE TRANSMISSION WAS MISFIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,457 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,700.
AS I APPROACHED A STOPLIGHT THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING. I QUICKLY PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND WATCHED THE TACH SLOWLY KEEP GOING UP. I REACHED DOWN AND PULLED UP ON THE GAS PEDAL AND GOT NO REACTION SO I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON IT WAS OK THEN. *TR
I OWNED A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA FOR ONLY 2 WEEKS BECAUSE I SOLD IT. THE STEERING WAS HORRIBLE, ON THE FREEWAY YOU HAD TO CONSTANTLY STAY ALERT TO KEEP IT IN A STRAIGHT LINE IT WAS LIKE DRIVING A 20 YEAR OLD CAR. I FELT I SHOULD SAY SOMETHING WITH THE LATEST PROBLEMS. *TR
APPROACHING RED LIGHT, CAR IN NEUTRAL, RIGHT FOOT DEPRESSING BRAKE, LEFT RESTING ON CLUTCH, AND CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN WHEN ENGINE REVVED (WATCHED TACHOMETER NEEDLE JUMP). AS ENGINE REVVED I CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THAT RIGHT FOOT WAS NOT NEAR GAS PEDAL (WASN'T). THIS WAS SECOND OCCURRENCE OF THE ENGINE REVVING WHEN GAS PEDAL WAS NOT ENGAGED. APPARENTLY THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT. I AM NOT AN AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEER. GAS PEDAL WILL BE MODIFIED BY DEALER WITHIN THE WEEK, BUT BOTH TIMES MY FEET WERE NOT NEAR THE PEDAL WHEN THE RPM'S INCREASED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA . WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 74 MPH WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNINGS. AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THEY THEN GAVE HER A LOANER, TO CONTINUE VEHICLE INSPECTION. THE DEALER HAS YET TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE, AND PROVIDE A REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1700. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1750. PURCHASED TOYOTA COROLLA 2009 AND EVER SINCE HAD STEERING PROBLEMS ON HIGHWAY. WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE CAR WANTS TO GO ALL OVER THE HIGHWAY BY ITSELF. IT IS EXALTING TO DRIVE ANY DISTANCE ON THE HIGHWAY. I AM CONSTANTLY FIGHTING WITH THE STEERING JUST TO KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHT. THERE IS A STEERING PROBLEM WITH MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA WITH ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING THAT I BELIEVE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN 8/08. THE STRAIGHT LINE STABILITY OF THIS CAR IS TERRIBLE AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 50MPH. THIS PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. IT DRIFTS AND WANDERS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS IF IT IS BEING BUFFETED BY HIGH WINDS WHEN NO SUCH CONDITION EXISTS. IT REQUIRES DELIBERATE AND DISTRACTING FOCUS TO KEEP CAR IN ITS LANE. THE CAR GOES OFF COURSE WITH THE SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL. IT DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE ANY NEUTRAL STEERING POSITION, YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CORRECT THE STEERING TO KEEP THE CAR IN LANE.. IF YOU TAKE YOUR EYE OFF THE ROAD FOR A SECOND THE CAR WILL DRIFT INTO ANOTHER LANE. CERTAIN ROAD CONDITIONS, SUCH AS WORN OR TROUGHED, (GULLIED?) PAVEMENT AS WELL AS INCREASED WINDY CONDITIONS MAKE THE CAR ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE. THEN YOU HAVE TO GRIP THE STEERING WHEEL WITH BOTH HANDS IN AN ATTEMPT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE TRAVELING STRAIGHT. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA MY CAR IS IN PERFECT SHAPE. ALL STEERING TOLERANCES ARE CORRECT. THE TIRE PRESSURE HAS BEEN MONITORED AND MAINTAINED AT 30LBS AS IS RECOMMENDED BY TOYOTA SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. *TR

2009 COROLLA S WITH STEERING PROBLEMS. I BOUGHT MY 2009 COROLLA IN 2008. I LOVE THE CAR BUT HATED THE STEERING. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE WIND PUSHING THE CAR AROUND BUT REALIZED IT WAS NOT THE WIND. I HAD TO ALWAYS COMPENSATE FOR THE WANDERING OF THE CAR AND IT WAS QUITE TIRING ON MY ARMS. SOMETIMES THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED AND IT WAS GOING STRAIGHT, SOMETIMES THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STRAIGHT AND IT WAS HEADING FOR THE DITCH. I PARKED IT IN THE WINTER (PROBABLY WOULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH IT IF I HAD NOT). IT WAS LIKE DRIVING ON ICE ALL THE TIME. I REPORTED IT TO THE DEALER. THE MECHANIC TOOK IT OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND SAID THE POWER STEERING RACK WAS BAD. THEY ORDERED ONE AND REPLACED IT (UNDER WARRANTY) ALONG WITH THE RECALL FOR DRIPPING FLUID ON THE BRAKES. *TR

I HAVE NOTED THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO TEMPERATURE, HUMIDITY AND WARMUP OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM. POWER STEERING PROBLEMS. CAR IS HARD TO KEEP IN STRAIGHT LINE. POWER STEERING OVER CORRECTS WITH THE SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT RIGHT OR LEFT OF THE STEERING WHEEL. WHILE TRAVELING ON I 40 IN A ONE LANE CONSTRUCTION ZONE NEAR WINSTON SALEM N.C. ON OCTOBER 16TH 2009, I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT . I THEN HAD TO CORRECT BY TURNING BACK TO THE LEFT. WHEN I TURNED LEFT THE STEERING OVER CORRECTED CAUSING ME TO STRIKE A CONSTRUCTION CONE WITH MY LEFT MIRROR. THE GLASS IN THE MIRROR BROKE AND I REPLACED IT AT MY EXPENSE. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS KEEPING THE CAR IN A STRAIGHT LINE WHILE TRAVELING BETWEEN 40 - 60 MILES PER HOUR EVER SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. I TRAVEL THOUSANDS OF MILES EVERY YEAR DRIVING SEVERAL MAKES OF VEHICLES. THIS VEHICLE IS THE ONLY ONE I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH. AFTER HEARING OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, I BELIEVE THIS IS EITHER A DESIGN PROBLEM OR AN EQUIPMENT FAILURE AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY TOYOTA IN ORDER TO PREVENT ACCIDENTS OR DEATHS CAUSED BY THIS PROBLEM. *TR

THE RECALL SAYS IF MY VEHICLE IS OPERATED IN EXTREMELY LOW TEMPERATURES, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT CONDENSED MOISTURE MAY FREEZE CAUSING A POTENTIAL RISK OF BRAKE FAILURE LEADING TO AN INCREASED RISK OF A CRASH. I LIVE IN UPSTATE NEW YORK WHERE THE TEMPERATURES DROP TO FREEZING AND BELOW THIS TIME OF YEAR. THIS HAPPENED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCURRENCE AND A CASE WAS OPENED BY OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP WITH TOYOTA WHO CLAIMED THAT "A TRANSMISSION CANNOT FAIL IN ONE OF THOSE CARS". THE MODULE ON THE TRANSMISSION WAS RE-CALIBRATED ONCE, AS REQUIRED BY A PREVIOUS SERVICE BULLETIN. I WAS TOLD TO COME BACK WHEN THE VEHICLE SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AGAIN. I DID NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR, SO I TRADED IT IN AT THE FIRST OPTION I HAD. *TR
STEERING REQUIRES CONSTANT DRIVER CORRECTION TO GO STRAIGHT DOWN THE HIGHWAY. CAR PULLS TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT, BUT WON'T TRACK STRAIGHT WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS OCCURS WHENEVER THE CAR IS DRIVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WHEN DRIVING ON WINDY DAYS, IT'S MORE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL BECAUSE CROSSWINDS ADD TO THE INSTABILITY. TOOK CAR DO DEALER FOR REPAIR BUT THE DEALER SAID STEERING COULDN'T BE ADJUSTED AND THAT THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE CAR WANTS TO WANDER OUT OF LANE, AND THE CONSTANT STEERING CORRECTIONS BECOME FATIGUING ON LONG TRIPS. AS AN EXAMPLE, I DROVE IT FROM HOME TO ARIZONA AND BACK ON A VACATION, AND MY WRISTS AND FOREARMS WERE SORE FOR A WEEK AFTER THE TRIP. I'VE MADE THIS EXACT TRIP IN ANOTHER VEHICLE AND HAD NO SUCH PROBLEMS. THE OTHER VEHICLE TRACKS STRAIGHT AND THE COROLLA DOES NOT. BECAUSE MY DEALER WILL NOT HELP ME WITH THIS ISSUE AND THE COROLLA HAS DEPRECIATED SIGNIFICANTLY, I AM PRETTY MUCH STUCK WITH A CAR THAT HAS A PROBLEM. I'M HOPING NHTSA MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP.
