THE STEERING ON MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA S FEELS LOOSE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. CAR FEELS LIKE IT DRIFTS AND NEEDS CONSTANT CORRECTING, ALWAYS FEELS LIKE YOU NEED A FIRM GRIP ON THE STEERING WHEEL WITH BOTH HANDS. FEELS AS THOUGH YOU ARE DRIVING IN WINDY CONDITIONS WHEN IT'S CALM. I DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBABLY AT LOWER SPEEDS. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AS SOON AS I PURCHASED THE CAR, APRIL 2009, AND I STILL EXPERIENCE IT NOW. I HAVE NOT ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I THOUGHT I WAS OVER SENSITIVE TO IT SINCE IT WAS A NEW CAR I WAS NOT USED TO DRIVING, BUT AFTER SEEING THIS WEBSITE, I KNOW IT IS THE CAR, NOT ME. *TR
MY 2009 COROLLA WILL NOT GO EXACTLY STRAIGHT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. CLOSE, BUT NOT EXACTLY STRAIGHT. STEERING MUST HAVE A VERY MINOR CORRECTION ABOUT EVERY 3-5 SECONDS TO KEEP THE CAR IN OR NEAR THE CENTER OF THE LANE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. 1. IF THE DRIVER FAILS TO DO THE CONSTANT CORRECTION THE KEEP THE CAR IN THE LANE, THE CAR WOULD VEER OUT OF THE LANE - INCREASED POSSIBILITY OF A CRASH. 2. THE CONCENTRATION REQUIRED TO DO THE CONSTANT MINOR STEERING CORRECTION KEEPS THE DRIVER FROM OBSERVING SURROUNDINGS AND OTHER TRAFFIC - INCREASED POSSIBILITY OF A CRASH. 3. ON A LONG TRIP THE CONCENTRATION REQUIRED CORRECTING THE VEHICLE INCREASES DRIVER FATIGUE - INCREASED POSSIBILITY OF A CRASH. I READ IN THE NEWS THAT "SPOKESMAN BRIAN LYONS SAID TOYOTA BELIEVES MOST OF THE COMPLAINTS INVOLVED WANDERING FROM THE CENTER STEERING POSITION THAT DIDN'T AMOUNT TO A SAFETY PROBLEM." AND "ON JUNE 3, TOYOTA ISSUED A BULLETIN TO DEALERS TELLING THEM TO ADDRESS COMPLAINTS BY CHECKING THE TIRE PRESSURE AND ALIGNMENT. IF THOSE STEPS ARE INSUFFICIENT, THE BULLETIN TOLD DEALERS THEY COULD REPLACE THE COMPUTER THAT GOVERNS THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WITH A NEW UNIT, WHICH TOYOTA SAID HAD BEEN "RE-TUNED" WITH AN "ALTERNATIVE STEERING FEEL."". AS OF AUG 18, 2010, MY LOCAL DEALER SAYS HE KNOWS OF NO PROBLEM WITH COROLLA STEERING AND CAN NOT FIND A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT 2009-20010 COROLLA STEERING. *TR
2009 TOYOTA COROLLA - STEERING ISSUES WITH THE TRIPTRONIC SYSTEM. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS YOU HAVE TO CORRECT AND OVER CORRECT TO KEEP WITHIN THE LINES. THE CAR CONSTANTLY GOES LEFT RIGHT - LEFT RIGHT. IT IS PARTICULARITY BAD NOTICEABLE WHEN IT IS WINDY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN MARCH OF 2009. SHE NOTICED THAT WHENEVER SHE DROVE THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH SHE WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 6,000.
THE 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA I HAVE HAS THE SIMILAR BRAKE PROBLEM LIKE THE PRIUS, THE CAR DOES NOT SLOW DOWN AT FIRST WHEN THE BRAKE WAS PRESSED, THERE IS ALWAYS A DELAY THAT CAUSES A LONGER STOP DISTANCE. *TR
STEERING WHEEL IS STRAIGHT AND BEING HELD WITH BOTH HANDS YET CAR IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP IN THE LANE. THIS OCCURS EVERYTIME THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED IN APRIL 2009 AND CAN LEAD TO ACCIDENT. *TR
BOUGHT A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA IN APRIL 2009 AND HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING AS THE CAR WILL NOT DRIVE IN A STRAIGHT LINE AND WANDERS ON THE ROAD. DRIVER MUST FIGHT THE STEERING AT ALL TIMES TO KEEP IT IN THE DRIVING LANE. TOYOTA SAYS IT IS NORMAL AND WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA THAT HAS A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLES ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM (EPS). WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (50MPH OR GREATER) THE VEHICLE WANDERS ALL OVER THE ROAD. THE STRAIGHT LINE STABILITY OF THIS CAR IS TERRIBLE! AND I BELIEVE IT PRESENTS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM FOR 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA OWNERS. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR ON APR. 18, 2009. MECHANIC DETERMINED IT WAS A COMPUTER FAILURE. COMPUTER REPLACED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BACK ON THE SAME DAY COMPUTER WAS REPLACED. MECHANIC PLACED CALL TO TOYOTA TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE. HE WAS ADVISED TO TRY REPLACING WIRING HARNESS. CHECK ENGINE STILL ON AFTER REPAIR. TECH. ASSISTANCE THEN SAID TO TRY REPLACING FUEL INJECTOR. LIGHT STILL ON. TOYOTA HAS CALLED IN A FIELD REP TO ASSESS THE SITUATION. VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 12 DAYS NOW AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. THE COMPUTER IS NOT REGISTERING ANY ERROR CODES. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING THE FREEWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. WE WENT UP A VERY SMALL INCLINE AND THE CRUISE ADJUSTED. HOWEVER THE CRUISE WOULD NOT READJUST AT THE TOP OF THE INCLINE AND CONTINUED TO GAIN SPEED. MY HUSBAND TRIED TO BRAKE, TO NO AVAIL, JUST INCREASES IN SPEED(ACT. SPEED UNKNOWN).FINALLY, A BREAK IN TRAFFIC, SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND GUIDED THE CAR TO AN EXIT. TURNED OFF CAR, TURNED BACK ON AND ENGINE STILL RACING, FINALLY ON NEXT TRY WENT TO NORMAL. I HAVE NOT USED THE CRUISE SINCE. BUT HEARING OF OTHER TOYOTAS WITH SUA, I'M WONDERING IF THIS IS THE SAME EVEN THOUGH COROLLAS ARE NOT MENTIONED. WITHOUT A BREAK IN TRAFFIC, I'M CONVINCED THERE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES TO THIS INCIDENT. CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY CHECKED THE CAR WITH NO CONCLUSION TO THE CAUSE OF THE EVENT. THE MAT DID NOT APPEAR TO BE A CAUSE OF THE EVENT. WE ASSUMED THAT IT WAS THE CRUISE CONTROL BECAUSE IT WAS THE FIRST TIME WE USED IT . THE CRUISE HAD BEEN ENGAGED FOR AT LEAST 50 MILES BEFORE THE EVENT. THIS WAS A TERRIFYING EVENT FOR MY HUSBAND WHO IS NORMALLY VERY CALM AND MYSELF. *TR

PURCHASED A NEW 2009 COROLLA S ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO FROM THE LOCAL DEALER IN ARDMORE, OK. THERE IS A STEERING PROBLEM WITH THE NEW ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM ON THEIR MODELS NOW. THE DRIVER HAS TO MAKE A CONSTANT ADJUSTMENT IN STEERING THE AUTO TO PREVENT IT FROM CONSTANTLY VEERING LEFT OR RIGHT AS YOU DRIVE ON CITY STREETS OR MAJOR HIGHWAYS. I MET WITH THE FACTORY REP FROM TOYOTA AND HE STATES THAT THIS PROBLEM IS CREATED BY THE NEW DESIGN OF THEIR STEERING SYSTEM WITH 0% VARIANCE FOR ERROR. A MASTER TOYOTA MECHANIC CHECKED OUT THE AUTO AND ATTEMPTED TO MAKE ADJUSTMENT TO CORRECT, A CASE HAS BEEN ASSIGNED BY THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATING THAT THE STEERING IS VERY OVERSENSATIVE. A CASE HAS ALSO BEEN FILED WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE. MY PROBLEM STILL EXISTS I HAVE A NEW COROLLA S PARKED IN MY GARAGE WITH LESS THAN 400 MILES ON IT DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE OF DRIVING THIS AUTO. *TR

THOUGHT I BETTER ADD MY EXPERIENCE WITH MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CAR WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP IN A STRAIGHT LINE. IT WAS AS IF EVERY TINY STEERING CORRECTION WAS GREATLY EXAGGERATED OR BEING BUFFETED BY STRONG WINDS FROM EVERY DIRECTION ON A CALM DAY CONSTANTLY. I HAD TO CONSTANTLY STAY UP ON THE WHEEL & NOT LOSE CONCENTRATION FOR A SECOND OR I WOULD BE OUT OF MY LANE. AS I SAID, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP IN A STRAIGHT LINE. I COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA ABOUT THIS BUT RECEIVED NO RESPONSE AT ALL. AFTER ABOUT 5,000 MILES IT SEEMED TO GET A BIT BETTER OR MAYBE I' JUST GETTING USED TO IT. *TR
I PICKED UP MY NEW 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA ON 3-5-2009. THE MORE I DROVE IT THE MORE I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WANDERED. WHILE TRYING TO DRIVE STRAIGHT, THE CAR GOES LEFT AND RIGHT, ALMOST LIKE THERE IS A STRONG CROSS-WIND, BUT THERE ISN'T ANY WIND. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE AND STAY BETWEEN THE WHITE LINES. YOU HAVE TO KEEP TWO HANDS ON THE WHEEL AT ALL TIMES AND CONTINUALLY MAKE STEERING CORRECTIONS TO AVOID JUMPING INTO THE OTHER LANES OR OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED AND THEY SAID IT WORKED JUST FINE. I TOLD HIM NO, THAT IT DOES NOT WORK JUST FINE AND INSISTED SOMEBODY ELSE LOOK AT IT. HE HAD ME GO ALONG WITH HIS HEAD MECHANIC, AND THE MECHANIC SAID SOMETHING WAS WRONG, SUGGESTING THAT THE PINION GEAR HAD TOO MUCH "PRELOAD" . THEY KEPT THE CAR AND REPLACED THE STEERING. AFTER I PICKED UP THE CAR, IT SEEMED BETTER AT FIRST, BUT THEN IT RETURNED TO THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE WANDERING AFTER DRIVING A FEW HUNDRED MILES. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM IN MY OPINION AND NEEDS SOME SERIOUS FOLLOWUP. I'M TAKING THE CAR BACK AS SOON AS I CAN ARRANGE FOR OTHER TRANSPORTATION. HELP! *TR

I NOTICED AGAIN TODAY THAT WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL PULLED TO THE RIGHT OUT OF NOWHERE. I GOT SO SCARED. THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA TYPE S. WHAT CAN I DO? *TR

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY FROM AN OFF RAMP SHE BARELY PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED UP TO SPEEDS OF OVER 75 MPH. THERE WAS A SUDDEN INCREASE IN THE ENGINE RPMS AND WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IT WAS STUCK IN THE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION. SHE ATTEMPTED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKES, TO NO AVAIL. SHE WAS ABLE TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND AGAIN SHE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE FINALLY DECREASED IN SPEED. A STATE TROOPER ARRIVED TO OFFER ASSISTANCE AND INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT CONFIRMED THAT THE FLOOR MATS WERE NOT INTERFERING WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. ALTHOUGH THERE WERE RECALLS ON HER VEHICLE PERTAINING TO THE EXACT SAME FAILURES (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS: 10V023000 AND 10V017000: COMPONENT: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL), HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,457 AND THE CURRENT WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,100. UPDATED 04/13/10.*JB
I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY, EVEN THOUGH IT'S NOT WINDY, THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS LIKE IT'S BEING DRAGGED TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT AND SOMETIMES, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD JUST SWERVE TO EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT...IT WAS KIND OF SCARY! *TR
WHEN THE SPEED GOES OVER 60-65 MPH, THE CAR TENDS TO BE PULLED TO DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS, WOBBLING AND MAKING ME FEEL VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. EVEN IF I'M HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL FIRMLY AND STEADILY, THE CAR WOULD BE PULLED TO RIGHT SIDE, THEN NEXT MOMENT TO LEFT SIDE. *TR
WHEN PARKING ON A SLIGHT INCLINE IN 2ND GEAR THE CAR ROLLS BACKWARD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED TO SPEEDS OF 140 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY APPLYING STEADY, EXTREME FORCE TO THE BRAKES. THE DEALER PERFORMED A TEST DRIVE AND WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

MY HEAD RESTRAINT IN MY CAR PUSHES MY HEAD DOWN SO I CAN BARELY SEE OUT THE WINDSHIELD TO DRIVE. WHICH GOVERNMENT IDIOT CAME UP WITH THIS BRILLIANT IDEA OF REDESIGNING THE HEAD RESTRAINTS SO THEY STICK OUT SO FAR. DOES HE EVEN DRIVE A CAR? THE GOVERNMENT HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING RIGHT, AND THIS IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE. STOP FIGURING OUT YOUR EXCESSIVE PENSION PLANS AND ALL THE VACATION TIME YOU HAVE, GET OFF YOUR BUTS AND FIX THE PROBLEM YOU CAUSED. I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD SEND THEIR CHIROPRACTIC BILLS TO YOU CLOWNS. *TT
THE CAR IS HARD TO CONTROL THE POWER STEERING AND I LUCKILY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET CONTROL OF THE CAR WITHOUT A ACCIDENT BUT I HAVE BEEN CLOSE TO BEING SLAMMED IN THE SIDE OF 18 WHEELERS, OTHER CARS AND CONCRETE BARRIERS. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED ASAP. MY DEALERSHIP KEEPS TELLING ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. AS A CONSUMER AND A PARENT OF SMALL KIDS THIS IS NOT RIGHT. TAKADA RECALL. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT AT THIS POINT IT HAD BEEN YEARS SINCE I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AND THERE ARE STILL NOT PARTS AVAILABLE TO REPLACE MY PASSENGER AIRBAG. I AM EXPECTING ANOTHER CHILD AND WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO BUT A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. WHY IS TOYOTA NOTHE BEING REQUIRED TO REPLACE THESE AIRBAGS MORE QUICKL?
EVER SINCE I PURCHASED MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA I HAVE NOTICED STEERING DIFFICULT. I READ BLOGS AT THE TIME AND IT SEEMED FROM WHAT I READ, THAT THIS WAS JUST A DRAW BACK OF THE CAR, SO I LET IT GO. I FEEL I NEED TO REPORT IT NOW. THE STEERING FEELS WAY TO RESPONSIVE TO EVEN THE SLIGHTEST HAND MOVEMENT OF THE WHEEL, OR BUMP IN THE ROAD. BECAUSE THE SUSPENSION ON THIS MODEL IS SO STIFF, A BUMP IN THE ROAD CAN CAUSE MY HAND TO MOVE A TINY BIT, RESULTING IN THE CAR MOVING MUCH MORE THAN ONE WOULD EXPECT FROM LITTLE MOVEMENT. THE BEST WAY TO SUM UP THE PROBLEM IS THIS; IT IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO JUST GO STRAIGHT, OR HOLD THE WHEEL STILL FOR A SECOND. YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY MOVE SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT OR THE LEFT JUST TO KEEP IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR LANE. GOING AROUND CURVES SMOOTHLY IS DIFFICULT AS WELL. IF IT IS WINDY THIS PROBLEM IS 10 FOLD, AND DOWN RIGHT DANGEROUS. I HAVE ALREADY SKIDDED OFF A SNOWY HIGHWAY BECAUSE THE CAR SO EASILY FISH TAILED WHILE TRYING TO CORRECT MY STEERING. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO DAMAGE, HAD THERE BEEN VEHICLE IN THE LANE NEXT TO MINE, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A HORRIFIC CRASH. IN MY 17 YEARS OF DRIVING I HAVE NEVER FISH TAILED BEFORE. THE ALIGNMENT AND TIRES HAVE BEEN CHECKED AND ARE FINE. I HAD THE BRAKE RECALL DONE BEFORE THE ABOVE MENTIONED INCIDENT. THERE DOESN'T FEEL TO BE AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE. THE CAR DOES NOT PULL. THE STEERING JUST SEEMS FAR TOO SENSITIVE, THIS COMBINED WITH IT'S ODD AERODYNAMIC RESPONSE, AND BUMPY RIDE MAKE THE STEERING FEEL VERY UNSAFE AT TIMES. EVEN WHEN IT DOESN'T FEEL DANGEROUS, IT IS TIRING TO HAVE TO CONSTANTLY ADJUST THE WHEEL RIGHT AND LEFT JUST TO KEEP IT IN LANE. I'VE NEVER HAD A STEERING ISSUE LIKE THIS WITH ANY OTHER CAR. THERE IS ALSO THE OVERWHELMING SMELL OF SULFUR IN THE PASSENGER CABIN SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK, SEEMS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER DOESN'T HANDLE IT WELL. TOOK IT TO A DEALER FOR THE SULFUR ISSUE AND THEY SAID THAT'S NORMAL. MAKES ME LIGHT HEADED AT TIMES, ON TOP OF JUST STINKING UP MY NEW CAR. *TR

ON 3/27/2009 MY COROLLA SPED UP ON ITS OWN CAUSING ME TO STRIKE A PARKED VEHICLE, AND INJURING MYSELF. I CALLED THE WALTON, KENTUCKY PLANT ABOUT THIS THE FOLLOWING DAY. THEIR ADVISE TO ME WAS TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD BOUGHT IT FOR AN INSPECTION. ON APRIL 1, 2009 I DID THIS VERY THING AND I WAS TOLD BY THEIR MECHANICS THAT EVERYTHING ON MY CAR WAS FINE AND THAT IT WAS PROBABLY JUST OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLES FAULT. LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP WORRIED, AND CONCERNED I PUT MY TOYOTA COROLLA IN THE BODY SHOP FOR REPAIRS. TEN DAYS LATER AFTER HAVING MY VEHICLE INSPECTED BY THEIR MECHANICS AND HAVING MY BODY REPAIRS MADE THE SAME THING OCCURRED TO ME AGAIN WHEN ON 4/11/2009 MY TOYOTA COROLLA ACCELERATED UPON ITS OWN AGAIN STRIKING A PARKED VEHICLE CAUSING ADDITIONAL INJURIES TO MYSELF AS WELL AS THIS TIME I WAS CITED BY THE POLICE, MY INSURANCE CARRIER RAISED MY RATES TO NEARLY DOUBLE THE USUAL AMOUNT, AND I AM PAYING FOR A CAR THAT I AM TERRIFIED AT THIS POINT TO BE DRIVING. WHEN I REQUESTED PRINT OUTS FROM THE DEALERSHIP OF THE MECHANICAL INSPECTION THAT WAS MADE BETWEEN AUTO ACCIDENTS THEY BECAME VERY AGITATED WITH ME, AND MY SON TO THE POINT OF COMPLETE RUDENESS. 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA LE REQUIRES EXCESSIVE CONCENTRATION TO STEER AT SPEEDS OVER 60 MPH ON IMPERFECT HIGHWAYS OR IN WINDY CONDITIONS. I PURCHASED A NEW 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA ON MARCH 16, 2009. THE EPS STEERING CAUSES THE CAR NOT TO RUN IN A STRAIGHT LINE. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT PULLS STRONGLY TO THE RIGHT. TO CORRECT THE STEERING CAUSES THE NEED FOR CONSTANT INPUT TO CORRECT THE STEERING AS THE CAR WANDERS OFF OF A STRAIGHT LINE CONSTANTLY. THE STEERING INPUT IS NOT PRECISE AND THE CAR SEEMS TO STEER OFF OF A STRAIGHT LINE. IF NOT CORRECTED, THE CAR PULLS RIGHT. DUE TO THIS CONDITION, I CHECKED TIRE PRESSURE. FROM THE DEALER, THE FRONT TIRES WERE WELL OVER THE PRESCRIBED 30 POUNDS AND THE REAR TIRES WERE WELL UNDER. IT APPEARS THAT THERE WAS AN ATTEMPT TO COMPENSATE FOR THE STEERING ISSUES AND MASK THE PROBLEM. WITH CORRECT TIRE PRESSURE, THE PROBLEM IS WORSENED. *TR
COROLLA WAS PURCHASED NEW WITH ABOUT 100 MILES. THE DAY AFTER THE PURCHASE I DROVE IT ABOUT 1500 MILES TO FLORIDA. ALONG THE WAY, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I SOON OBSERVED THAT IT WAS NOTICEABLY DRIFTING SIDE TO SIDE WITHIN THE TRAVEL LANE. NO AMOUNT OF ATTENTION COULD PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING. OUR 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA HAS A FAILURE IN THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. AFTER THE WINTER, THE A/C WAS TURNED ON AND IT WOULD NOT COOL. FREON WAS PUT INTO THE SYSTEM AND IT COOLED DOWN AGAIN. HOWEVER, A HISSING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE CAR AFTER PUTTING IN THE FREON. TURNS OUT THERE IS A LEAK IN THE AIR CONDITIONER'S CONDENSER. THE TSB ON THE 2003 - 3005 COROLLA INDICATED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. SUPPOSEDLY, TOYOTA CORRECTED THIS PROBLEM ON FUTURE COROLLA'S, BUT EVIDENTLY THERE IS STILL A PROBLEM WITH IT. WE ARE HAVING THE CONDENSER REPLACED. *TR
EVENT: HIGH FREQUENCY NOISE FROM FRONT WHEELS WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. DETAILS: OCCURS ON THE FREEWAY AND ONLY WHEN SPEED IS BETWEEN 60 AND 80 MPH. BUT GOES OFF ONCE PRESSED ON THE BRAKE. NOISE WILL NOT COME RIGHT AFTER YOU GO OVER 60 MPH ON THE FREEWAY, BUT AFTER 10 TO 15 MIN, ON THE FREEWAY, IT WILL START PRODUCING THE NOISE. ONCE THE NOISE STARTS, IF WE GO ANY SPEED BETWEEN 60 AND 80 MPH, IT WILL CONTINUE, AND STOP AS SOON AS WE ENGAGE THE BRAKES SLIGHTLY, BUT WILL REAPPEAR WITHIN FEW MORE MINS OF DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. RESOLUTION: WENT 3 TIMES TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME ISSUE. DEALER HAD NO IDEA OF WHAT CAUSED THE ISSUE, AND SIMPLY SAID THAT IT WAS FIXED 2 TIMES WITH MINIMAL INVESTIGATION. 3RD TIME THEY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 2 WEEKS IN THE LAST ATTEMPT AND TEST DROVE IT FOR A TOTAL OF 2000 MILES IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. NO SERVICE TECH AT DEALERS LOCATION WAS ABLE TO GET IT. TOYOTA SENT A FACTORY TECH. AND HE DID THE 3RD LONG ATTEMPT MENTIONED ABOVE TO FIND OUT THAT IT WAS THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL HUB THAT CAUSED THE ISSUE. *TR

ACCORDING TO TAKATA, THE PROPELLANT IN THESE INFLATORS MAY DEGRADE AFTER PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO HIGH ABSOLUTE HUMIDITY AND FLUCTUATING HIGH TEMPERATURES. DEGRADED PROPELLANT CAN CAUSE INFLATOR RUPTURE DURING AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. AS PER THE WORK ORDER #TOCS162571, THE WORK PERFORMED WAS: INSTALLING ACCELERATOR PEDAL REINFORCEMENT BAR, BRAKE INSPECTION, INSTALLING INTAKE AIR TUBE CONNECTOR KIT. UP UNTIL THAT TIME, I HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS. ON 3/1/10 AT 10:25AM, THE 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA ABRUPTLY ACCELERATED TO OVER 7,000 RPMS WHILE MY FOOT WAS APPLIED TO BRAKE AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT. THE CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE DESPITE APPLYING EXTRA PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE WITH MY FOOT. I THEN TURNED THE CAR OFF WITH THE KEY, PUT IT IN PARK, WAITED APPROX. 1 MINUTE, AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THE ACCELERATION WAS MUCH WORSE THAN THE FIRST TIME AND THE NEEDLE ON THE TACHOMETER AGAIN WENT TO OVER 7,000 RPMS AND THE ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE A "JET ENGINE". I IMMEDIATELY TURNED TO ENGINE OFF AGAIN. THE POLICE WERE THEN CALLED AS THE CAR WAS BLOCKING TRAFFIC. THE OFFICER AND MYSELF PUSHED THE CAR TO SIDE OF ROAD WITHOUT STARTING IT. AAA EVENTUALLY TOWED THE CAR TO NORTH HILLS TOYOTA/SCION SERVICE CENTER. ON 3/2/10, DEANA HICKS OF THE SERVICE DEPT. CALLED TO SAY, UPON INSPECTION, THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I ASKED THEM TO EXAMINE THE CAR FURTHER AND A SERVICE TECH. TOOK IT HOME OVER NIGHT IN AN ATTEMPT TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND COULD NOT. AT THIS POINT WE WERE TOLD WE COULD TAKE THE CAR BACK. *TR
I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING IN MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA S. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS GREATER THAN 55 MPH, THERE IS AN INHERENT INABILITY IN THE STEERING SYSTEM TO COMPLETELY CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY VEER TO THE LEFT OR THE RIGHT WITH NO INPUT FROM THE STEERING WHEEL, AS IF SUDDEN GUSTS OF WIND WERE BLOWING THE VEHICLE FROM SIDE TO SIDE. MAINTAINING A STRAIGHT LINE PATH AT THIS SPEED IS FAR MORE DIFFICULT AND REQUIRES FAR MORE ATTENTION THAN ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. WITHOUT AN IMMEDIATE REACTION TO THIS UNNATURAL FEELING STEERING SYSTEM, THE VEHICLE IS IN DANGER OF ENTERING ANOTHER LANE OR VEERING OFF THE ROAD. ALTHOUGH I HAVE SOMEWHAT GOTTEN USED TO THE VERY PECULIAR HANDLING OF THIS MODEL'S EPS AND NO LONGER FEEL IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY, I FEEL THAT A RECALL TO IMPROVE THE POORLY TUNED STEERING (AT LEAST ON THE S TRIM) IS PRUDENT AND WILL REDUCE THE NUMBER OF HIGHWAY ACCIDENTS, INJURIES, AND DEATHS. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRUNK WAS DESIGNED THAT WAY AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BE CAREFUL WHEN OPENING THE TRUNK WITH LIMITED FORCE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT IF THE TRUNK FELL BACK ONTO HIS HEAD, IT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE SEVERE INJURY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,000.

IN EARLY 2009 , ONE WINTER NIGHT, I WAS RETURNING HOME AFTER A NIGHT OUT, IT HAS SNOWING AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS BELOW ZERO.
