WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF OVER 50MPH THE VEHICLE STARTS TO DRIFT AND CONSTANT STEERING INPUT IS REQUIRED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN THE CORRECT LANE. IT WAS ONLY WHEN THE SPEED WAS REDUCED DID I FEEL THAT I HAD REGAINED ENOUGH CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE TO STEER IT RIGHT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN WHILE HIS FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE BARELY MISSED STRIKING A PEDESTRIAN AND THEN CRASHED INTO A CONVENIENCE STORE WALL. THE CRASH WAS RECORDED ON THE STORE VIDEO CAMERA. TOYOTA WAS CONTACTED AND FILED CASE # 1008061785. THIS IS THE THIRD OCCURRENCE AND HAPPENED TWO TIMES BEFORE THE RECALL REMEDY FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V023000, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE THIRD FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE RECALL REMEDY WAS ISSUED. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE AND WILL NOT BE DRIVEN. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 9,000. UPDATED 11/05/10. *LJ
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHEN SHE WAS ADVISED THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL ON THE VEHICLE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V017000-ACCELERATOR PEDAL). THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD MODIFY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE RECALL. WHEN THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE VEHICLE BACK, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NOT MODIFIED AND THE DRIVER FLOOR MAT WAS ATTACHED TO THE FLOORBOARD BY VELCRO. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE RECALL WAS SPECIFICALLY FOR THE FLOOR MATS, WHICH THE CONTACT DISPUTED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ACTIVATING THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 60 MPH WHEN HE LOWERED THE REAR POWER WINDOWS. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SEE OUT OF THE REARVIEW MIRROR BECAUSE OF THE HARD VIBRATION. THE FAILURE WORSENED AS THE CONTACT INCREASED SPEED. IN ADDITION, THE FAILURE WOULD CAUSE THE KEYLESS REMOTE SENSOR TO FAIL. THE CONTACT TEST DROVE ANOTHER 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA TO DETERMINE IF THE FAILURE WAS LIMITED TO HIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE EXACT SAME FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS IN THE VEHICLE WITH THE CONTACT AND STATED THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN THE FAILURE BEFORE THEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
DRIVING 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA MANUAL TRANS ON INTERSTATE ON 8/2/10 AT 2:30 P.M. HAD CRUISE CONTROL ON GOING 70 MPH. ENGAGED CLUTCH, SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND BRAKED IN PREPARATION TO STOP FOR TRAFFIC JAM AHEAD. BRAKE DID NOT ENGAGE AND VEHICLE CONTINUED AT 70 MPH WITHOUT TOUCHING ACCELERATOR. CONTINUED ATTEMPTS TO BRAKE, DOWNSHIFT, TURN OFF CRUISE CONTROL WITH NO DECREASE IN SPEED. INITIALLY UNABLE TO DOWNSHIFT BUT THEN DID GET INTO LOWER GEAR BUT WITH NO RESULTING DECREASE IN SPEED, NOR DID THE ENGINE MAKE ANY NOISE INDICATING THAT I HAD DOWNSHIFTED. I WAS ABLE TO GET ONTO SHOULDER WHERE I CONTINUED TO GO 70 MPH.I THEN GOT OFF AT AN EXIT THAT HAD AN INCLINE. PART WAY UP THE HILL FELT SOMETHING DISENGAGE AND THE CAR SLOWED- NOT JUST DUE TO THE INCLINE I THINK. I WAS THEN ABLE TO PUT ON EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THE CAR STOPPED. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES I TRIED THE BRAKES AGAIN AND THEY WORKED. I DID NOT REENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL AFTER THIS. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS OCCURRED AFTER I HAD TAKEN THE CAR IN FOR BOTH TOYOTA RECOMMENDED RECALLS REGARDING THE FLOOR MATS AND PUTTING A MODIFICATION IN THE GAS PEDAL. WHEN I WENT IN FOR RECALLS I ASKED ABOUT PLACEMENT OF A COMPUTER BRAKE OVERRIDE SYSTEM AND WAS FIRST TOLD THAT FIX WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE, THEN TOLD IT WAS NOT RELEVANT TO MY CAR, AND, AFTER THE ABOVE EVENT TOLD AGAIN THAT TOYOTA DID NOT YET HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE TO DO THIS FIX ON COROLLAS. THE DEALERSHIP HAVE THUS FAR BEEN UNPLEASANT AND SUGGESTING THAT I MIGHT NOT BE TELLING THE TRUTH. *TR
ON SUNDAY AUGUST 2, 2010 AROUND 4 A.M., I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY APPROXIMATELY 60/MPH. I WAS ABOUT TO EXIT WHEN I REALIZED THERE WAS AN ABANDONED VEHICLE BLOCKING MY EXIT LANE. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO SWERVE TO THE RIGHT OR TO THE LEFT. I DIRECTLY HIT THE CAR GOING AT A SPEED ABOUT 55/MPH. MY BUMPER CAME OFF AND WAS STUCK TO THE ABANDONED CAR WITH THE REST OF THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE DESTROYED. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, WHICH NOW I AND MY PASSENGERS IN THE ACCIDENT FEEL UNSAFE. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURIES BUT WE WERE REALLY LUCKY. I HAVE NOT EVEN HAD MY VEHICLE 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA FOR 2 WEEKS AND IT CONCERNS ME THAT THERE CAN BE OTHER EFFECTS. I HAVE BEEN IN OTHER CAR ACCIDENTS BEFORE GOING AT A LOWER SPEED AND THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED RIGHT AWAY. *TR
I DRIVE A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. AS I PROCEEDED DOWN MY STREET AT ABOUT 25MPH, I SUDDENLY HEARD A BEEPING NOISE AND NOTICED THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ON MY DASH. A FEW SECONDS LATER, I LOST CONTROL OF MY STEERING. THE CAR SLID TO THE RIGHT, INTO A DITCH. I TRIED TO STEER LEFT TO BRING THE CAR OUT OF THE DITCH, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL AS FAR AS I COULD TO THE LEFT, AND IT SLOWLY PULLED THE CAR OUT OF THE DITCH. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. *TR
THE BUCKLES IN THE BACK SEAT OF THE CAR WERE INSTALLED IN OPPOSITE PLACES. THE BACK LEFT SEATBELT WILL ONLY BUCKLE IN THE CENTER SEATBELT BUCKLE. THE CENTER SEATBELT WILL ONLY BUCKLE IN THE BACK LEFT BUCKLE. THEY ARE NOT TWISTED. IF I HAVE THREE PASSENGERS IN THE BACK, THEY HAVE TO CRISSCROSS THE BELTS TO BUCKLE. THE BUCKLE INSTALLED ON THE LEFT SIDE HAS THE WORD "CENTER" ON IT.
MY 07 TOYOTA COROLLA S STARTED STALLING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR STARTED AND WAS FINE. THE NEXT DAY THE SAME THING HAPPENED. WHEN I WENT TO START THE CAR AGAIN STALLED. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY FIT ME RIGHT IN EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE BUSY, WHICH I APPRECIATED VERY MUCH. THIS ALL HAPPENED AT APPROXIMATELY 62,000 MILES. LUCKILY THE CAR WAS STILL COVERED UNDER 8 YR/80000 MILES WARRANTY. *TR
JUST PURCHASED A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA S ON JULY 23, 2010. THE STEERING DID NOT SEEM RIGHT. AT ONE WEEK I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY GAVE IT AN ALIGNMENT, WHICH DID NOT REALLY IMPROVE THE STEERING. IT IS HORRIBLE ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY ARMS HURT FROM TRYING TO KEEP IT IN THE LANE. THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME UNTIL I STARTED TO INVESTIGATE, AND FOUND OUT ALL OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. IT MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU DO NOT HAVE CONTROL OF THE CAR. IT SWERVES FROM SIDE TO SIDE. TIRED PUTTING MORE AIR IN THE TIRES, DOES NOT HELP. I HAVE NOT EVEN MADE MY FIRST PAYMENT YET. I HAVE CALLED CORPORATE OFFICES, AND AM AWAITING A RESPONSE FROM THEM. WE NEED TO START A CLASS ACTION SUIT. *TR
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A COROLLA 2010 REPLACING MY 2003 COROLLA AND ONE THING I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT MY NEW COROLLA CONSTANTLY REQUIRES MY TWO HANDS ON THE WHEEL BECAUSE IT FEELS LIKE I AM DRIVING IN VERY HIGH WIND AREA, AND LET ALONE DRIVING NEXT TO A BIG TRUCKS WHICH ALMOST BECOMES VERY DANGEROUS TO CONTROL THE CAR. WHEN SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND AND THE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. SHE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS LOCATED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT NO LONGER FELT SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 1,200.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 40 MPH. THE CHECK ENGINE AND VSC SERVICE WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER REPAIRS WHILE BRAKING FROM SPEEDS OF 50 MPH, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE CONTACT APPLIED REPEATED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AND THE ABS ENGAGED UNTIL THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR UNTIL THE VEHICLE STALLED. UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION MOMENTARILY BEFORE THE CHECK ENGINE AND VSC LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE HE WAS ADVISED THE NEW TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED A SECOND TIME. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, IT CAUSED THE BRAKE FAILURE. THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,550 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,740. THE VEHICLE AS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
WHEN PULLING INTO PARKING SPACE THE STEERING WHEEL TEND TO LOCK UP AND VERY HARD TO TURN. THEN AT THE STOP SIGN, WHEN PROCEEDING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND VERY HARD TO TURN AS IF IT WAS LIKE A NON-POWER STEERING. *TR

THE CONTACT SUFFERED AN INJURY TO THE LOWER BACK AND WAS UNCONSCIOUS TWO PASSENGERS SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE FACE. THE CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW WHY THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING FAST ENOUGH FOR THEM TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND IS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,100.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. SHE WAS DRIVING 3 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A FENCE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE POLICE WERE NOTIFIED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE ENTIRE FRONT END AND UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE INSURANCE COMPANY INSPECTED THE DAMAGES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKES AND APPROACHING A STOP, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A VEHICLE AHEAD OF HERS. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THIS WAS THE FIRST INSTANCE OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN THE VEHICLE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 4,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA DOWN THE ROAD. WHEN I BEGAN TO APPROACH A RED LIGHT AT INTERSECTION, I APPLIED BRAKES TO SLOW VEHICLE DOWN. INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN, HOWEVER, THE CAR BEGAN TO RAPIDLY ACCELERATE. THIS REQUIRED ME TO PASS TWO VEHICLES WAITING AT RED LIGHT IN ORDER TO AVOID COLLISION. REMEMBERING WHAT TOYOTA CO SAID TO DO WHEN THEIR VEHICLES ARE SPEEDING OUT OF CONTROL, I PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL AND CONTINUED TO APPLY BRAKES, WHICH HAD NO EFFECT WHATSOEVER. I CONTINUED TO SPEED DOWN DOUBLE-LINED ROAD, PASSING VEHICLES IN MY LANE. THEN WHEN OTHER VEHICLES WERE COMING IN OTHER LANE IN MY DIRECTION, I WAS FORCED TO SLAM FULL SPEED INTO VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME IN MY LANE. THIS CAUSED MY VEHICLE AND THAT VEHICLE TO ROLL OVER. WHEN MY FAMILY AND I HAD FIRST HEARD OF THE RECALLS WITH TOYOTA IN FEBRUARY OF 2010, WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK CAR TO TOYOTA DEALER IN FL WHERE WE VACATIONED FOR THE WINTER. WE WERE ASSURED THAT SINCE OUR VIN# INDICATED IT WAS JAPANESE-MADE, WE WERE NOT PART OF THE STICKING ACCELERATOR RECALL. THEY TOLD US TO REMOVE DRIVER-SIDE FLOORMAT ANYWAY, WHICH WE IMMEDIATELY DID. AS YOU CAN SEE, WE TOOK EVERY PRECAUTION POSSIBLE, AND AS MY CAR WAS CAREENING OUT OF CONTROL, I DID EVERYTHING I WAS SUPPOSED TO DO AND IT DID NOT MATTER. AND PLEASE DO NOT INSULT VICTIMS OF THESE TRAGEDIES BY INDICATING THAT IT IS POSSIBLY DRIVER ERROR. CLEARLY THERE IS SOMETHING MAJOR WRONG HERE AND THESE VEHICLES NEED TO BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REPAIRS, THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE INTERMITTENTLY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A COMPLETE STOP OR WHEN ACCELERATING WHILE IN MOTION AT LOW SPEEDS. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY MORE FORCE TO THE PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE WAS HESITANT TO INCREASE IN SPEED. IN ADDITION, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS MODIFIED WHEN REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL AND THE CONTACT STATED IT WAS DIFFICULT TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THEY COULD INSTALL A NEW ACCELERATOR PEDAL BUT THE DEALER WAS UNSURE IF THE REPAIR WOULD CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE DEALER RESET THE INTERNAL COMPUTER BUT DID NOT MAKE ANY REPAIRS TO THE PEDAL ITSELF. THE FAILURES CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE NOISE HAD NOT CAUSED A DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE BUT THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT IN THE FUTURE, THE VEHICLE COULD POSSIBLY EXHIBIT A BRAKING FAILURE. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITHIN THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A FAILURE DID NOT EXIST IN THE VEHICLE BUT WAS NOTICED WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY ACCRUED 1 MILE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
OUR 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) FREQUENTLY HESITATES AS IF ACCELERATION HAS CEASED AND THEN REACCELERATES AFTER IT APPEARS TO SWITCH GEARS. HAPPENS AT HIGHWAY AND FREEWAY SPEEDS, SEEMS TO INCREASE WITH USE OF A/C. AFTER TEST DRIVE, TOYOTA MECHANIC EXPLAINED THIS IS NORMAL AND DUE TO ELECTRICAL PARTS THAT HAVE REPLACED MECHANICAL PARTS. HE SAID CAR IS THINKING WHEN IT SWITCHES GEARS AND APPARENTLY STOPS ITS OTHER FUNCTION (I.E., MAINTAINING A STEADY SPEED) FOR A "NANOSECOND." MY FRIEND WHO OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY DID GET A BRAKE OVERRIDE SYSTEM, WHICH ENSURES THAT HE CAN STOP HIS VEHICLE NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WHILE MAKING A LEFT-HAND TURN, MY WIFE, DRIVING OUR 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA, WAS STRUCK BY A DRIVER RUNNING A RED LIGHT. CAR: TOYOTA COROLLA BASE 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION 2010 I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW FROM A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND IT IMMEDIATELY HAD PROBLEMS WITH SHIFTING INTO REVERSE. FROM THE 2ND DAY THAT I HAD THE CAR, WITH 54 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, THE WHOLE CAR WOULD SHAKE AND SHUDDER AS I PUT THE GEAR INTO REVERSE. THE GEAR WOULD CLUNK INTO REVERSE, CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO SHAKE AND SHUDDER AND IT IS SOMETIMES DIFFICULT TO EVEN GET IT TO ENGAGE. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES FOR THE SAME REASON WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. A CASE WAS OPENED WITH A FIELD BRANCH AND CLOSED WITH THE CONCLUSION THAT THE CAR WAS OPERATING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. THE PROBLEM WAS REPRODUCIBLE BY MYSELF IN FRONT OF THE MANAGER, THE SERVICE WRITER AND THE TECHNICIANS AT THE DEALERSHIP ALL DROVE IT AND WERE ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE SAME ISSUE. THEY SAY THAT ALL THE COROLLA CARS DO THAT AND THAT IT IS NORMAL. THE PROBLEM HAS PROGRESSED TO THE GEAR GRINDING WHEN TRYING TO ENGAGE NOW. THE CLUTCH IS COMPLETELY PRESSED DOWN AND THE GEAR IS MOVED INTO REVERSE AND IT GRINDS TWICE BEFORE FINALLY ENGAGING. NO PARTS WERE REPLACED, NO WORK WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE TO DRIVE MY CAR 80 MILES EVERY DAY IT IS A CONTINUOUS BATTLE WHEN DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE HAD THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES, ONE OF THE TECHNICAL GUYS HAS LAUGH ON MY FACE AND TOLD ME THAT I HAVE TO DRIVE YOUR CAR WITH TWO HANDS AND FOCUS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT ON THE ROAD. THAT MEANS YOU CAN OPEN YOUR WINDOWS, TURN ON THE RADIO, ETC. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ALREADY PERFORMED THREE ALIGNMENTS ON THE CAR AND THEY COULD FIND ANYTHING AND THE CAR STILL HAS THE SAME ISSUE.
