2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. CONSUMER STATES DISCONTENT WITH TOYOTA AND THE HANDLING OF RECALLS AND REPORTS PROBLEMS WITH ACCELERATION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHE TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BACK IN FEB 2010 AFTER HEARING THE DISAPPOINTING NEWS ABOUT TOYOTA DEFECTS. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AS THE DEALER SAID SHE WOULD WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF THE NEWS BREAKING. SHE HAD TO CONSTANTLY CALL THE DEALER TO GET HER VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE TWO MONTHS AFTER THE RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING UP AN INCLINE APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED EXTREME FORCE NUMEROUS TIMES TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEFORE ACCELERATION WOULD OCCUR. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE RECALL REMEDY REPAIR WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL). IN ADDITION, THERE WERE SEVERAL TIMES THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND WANDER UNINTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN DRIVEN SIX TIMES SINCE THE RECALL REPAIR DUE TO THE SIGNIFICANT CONCERN OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40.
TL*THE CONTACT RENTED A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE ACCELERATED, SHE HEARD A LOUD NOISE IN THE ENGINE AREA. THE RPMS INCREASED SUDDENLY AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP UNTIL IT CRASHED INTO A WALL. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED BUT TO THE LEFT SIDE INSTEAD OF FORWARD. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES RESULT OF THE CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT AN INVESTIGATION OF THE BLACK BOX DID NOT INDICATE ANY VEHICLE MALFUNCTION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 22,350.

THE CONSUMER LEARNED THAT AN ADVANCED BRAKE OVERRIDE SYSTEM HAD BEEN DEVELOPED FOR THE 2010 MODELS AND IT IS CURRENTLY BEING INSTALLED IN ALL COROLLA'S NOW BEING MANUFACTURED. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE INQUIRED ABOUT HAVING IT INSTALLED IN HIS VEHICLE, HE WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR COROLLA'S MANUFACTURED BEFORE THE SYSTEM WAS DEVELOPED. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WILL NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE UNIT IS INSTALLED IN HIS VEHICLE. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE PARKING, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARRANT. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO A POLE AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER BACK, CHEST, SHOULDER AND ANKLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING AN ASSESSMENT OF THE DAMAGES. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 7,192.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT STAY BALANCED IN A STRAIGHT LINE. THE VEHICLE WOULD VEER IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WAS WORSE WHEN DRIVING IN SNOW OR WINDY WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE DEALER ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE DEALER TEST DROVE AND WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. AN INVESTIGATOR WAS SENT ON BEHALF OF THE MANUFACTURER TO FURTHER INSPECT THE FAILURE. THE INVESTIGATOR PERFORMED A VISUAL INSPECTION AND ADVISED THERE WERE NO FAILURES. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES WOULD FEEL SPONGY AND WOULD OFTEN FALL FARTHER INTO THE FLOORBOARD THAN NORMAL. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO APPLY STEADY, REPEATED PRESSURE IN ORDER FOR THEM TO WORK PROPERLY. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITHIN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,100.

DEAR HERITAGE TOYOTA, I AM RETURNING THE TOYOTA COROLLA I PURCHASED FROM YOU LESS THAN 30 DAYS AGO. I EXPECT A FULL REFUND AS PROVIDED BY STATE AND FEDERAL STATUTES. I FIND IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT TRACK STRAIGHT. IT TOO READILY REDIRECTS ITSELF FROM A STRAIGHT PATH, DRIFTING ALTERNATELY FROM TO RIGHT OR LEFT. MY DRIVING TIME IS SPENT INTENSELY CONCENTRATING ON CORRECTING THE RIGHT AND LEFT ADJUSTMENT THE VEHICLE HAS MADE ON ITS OWN. IT FEELS LIKE I AM DRIVING ON RAILS THAT I DO NOT HAVE CONTROL OVER OR THAT I AM DRIVING ON THE CREST OF A SEVERELY CROWNED ROAD AND THAT I MUST CONSTANTLY REDIRECT THE VEHICLE BACK UPHILL TO THE TOP PF THE CROWN.. THE STEERING DOES NOT HAVE A SWEET NEUTRAL SPOT; IT IS AS IF THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS TRYING TO TURN AND IT MY JOB TO CORRECT ITS TURNING. THIS HAPPENS ON ALL ROADS AND AT ALL SPEEDS. IT HAPPENS BOTH WHEN I AM HOLDING ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND CONCENTRATING ON CORRECTING, AND ALSO WHEN I RELAX MY GRIP FROM THE WHEEL AND LET THE CAR 'TRACK' ON ITS OWN. THERE IS NO TIME I AM NOT WORKING TO KEEP THE CAR ON THE ROAD. IN ADDITION TO THE TYPICAL/USUAL TASK (THE JOY OF DRIVING) OF STEERING TO KEEP THE CAR ON THE ROAD, I AM FORCED TO ALSO STEER TO COMPENSATE FOR THE RANDOM TURNS THE VEHICLE MAKES ON IT OWN. I THOUGHT THE STEERING WOULD 'WEAR-IN' BUT I THINK IT IS GETTING WORSE. THE LAST STRAW HAPPENED YESTERDAY (WHILE I WAS OUT OF TOWN), WHEN MY WIFE DROVE IT FOR THE FIRST TIME, SHE CALLED ME TO ASK ME, 'WHAT I HAD DONE TO THE STEERING, BECAUSE SHE HAD DIFFICULTY KEEPING THE CAR ON THE ROAD.' I JUST BOUGHT A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA LESS THAN 30 DAYS AGO. I BELIEVE THE STEERING IS EITHER GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR AT LEAST CAUSE US TO GET A TICKET FROM DRIFTING IN AND OUT OF OUR LANE OF TRAFFIC. I AM 32 YEARS OLD AND HAVE BOUGHT AND DROVE TONS OF VEHICLES SO I AM NOT AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER. I OWN A 1988 TOYOTA PICKUP THAT IS EASIER TO KEEP IN A STRAIGHT LINE THAN THIS CAR. BEFORE I WAS READY TO PURCHASE THE CAR I DID SOME RESEARCH AND SAW SOME COMPLAINTS ABOUT HOW HARD IT WAS TO KEEP THEM DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST PEOPLE JUMPING ON THE TOYOTA RECALL BANDWAGON TRYING TO GET SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. I ALSO FIGURED IT WOULD BE A PERFECT TIME TO BUY A TOYOTA AND GET A DEAL BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS THEY ARE HAVING. WHEN I MENTIONED THE PROBLEM TO THE DEALER WHILE TEST DRIVING THE CAR HE SAID " I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING. IT PROBABLY WILL JUST TAKE SOME GETTING USED TO." IT HAS BEEN A MONTH AND THEIR IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. IT IS VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP IN A STRAIGHT LINE. IT IS ALMOST SO SENSITIVE THAT JUST PUTTING YOUR HANDS WHEEL WILL CAUSE A SLIGHT CHANGE IN DIRECTION. THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP THE CAR IN A STRAIGHT LINE DOWN A STRAIGHT ROAD IS TO TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF THE WHEEL. IF IT IS WINDY THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO CORRECT FOR DIRECTIONAL CHANGES THAT ARE NOT HAPPENING. IT DRIFTS HORRIBLY BAD DURING EVEN SMALL WINDS. I KNOW IT IS NOT JUST MY DRIVING HABITS. WE JUST MOVED FROM PALMER ALASKA AND ROUTINELY DROVE A 1990 FORD ESCORT, AND THE 1988 TOYOTA PICKUP IN WINDS OVER 50 MILES AN HOUR WITH EFFECTS LESS THAN THOSE IN THE 2010 COROLLA. *TR
PURCHASED A NEW 2010 COROLLA. DRIVING HOME FROM WORK LAST WEEK, I HAD TWO SERVICE LIGHTS ON (MY CAR HAS 1400 MILES ON IT). THE STEERING IN THE CAR SEEMED "LOOSE" AS I DROVE HOME, BUT WHEN I WENT TO TURN ON MY STREET, THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT TURN AND THE ABS FAILED. I HIT A CURB ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROAD DAMAGING A STRUT AND AN ALLOY WHEEL. MY LOCAL DEALER, LAKELAND TOYOTA, TOLD ME IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM BUT THAT I NEEDED TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD NO IDEA WHY THOSE TWO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON. I AM CURRENTLY TRYING TO WORK WITH TOYOTA CORPORATE TO GET THIS RESOLVED IN A MANNER THAT I WILL FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE CAR. KIND OF HARD TO DO WHEN THEY REFUSE TO ACCEPT THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. *TR

NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND THE PASSENGER SUFFERED BRUISING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TRAVELING FAST ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. I JUST RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA CONCERNING A 19 STATE RECALL OF 'SSC 90H - CERTAIN 2009-2010 COROLLA AND COROLLA MATRIX BRAKE SYSTEM VACUUM PORT SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN". THIS NOTICE ADVISES (UNDER "WHAT IS THE CONDITION"? "IF THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED UNDER EXTREMELY LOW TEMPERATURES, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT CONDENSED MOISTURE FROM A POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PVC) PORT MAY SEEP INTO THE BRAKE SYSTEM VACUUM PORT ("PORT") AND FREEZE. THE PORT IS LOCATED INSIDE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND PROVIDES VACUUM ASSIST FOR THE BRAKES. SHOULD THIS CONDITION CONTINUE, ICE MAY SLOWLY ACCUMULATE AT THE PORT AND IN THE WORST CASE, ULTIMATELY PLUG THE PORT. AS A RESULT, POWER ASSIST TO THE BRAKES WOULD GRADUALLY DECREASE (EVENTUALLY TO ZERO), AND THE INCREASED PEDAL PRESSURE REQUIRED COULD LEAD TO GREATER VEHICLE STOPPING DISTANCES." I HAVE ALREADY OPERATED THE VEHICLE IN NEVADA (ONE OF THE 19 STATES LISTED). IF THIS IS REALLY A SAFETY CONCERN I WOULD THINK THAT ALL VEHICLES SHOULD BE EITHER A) FIXED WITH THE REDESIGNED AIR INTAKE CONNECTOR OR B) PROVIDE THE VEHICLE WITH A SAFETY WARNING STICKER (PLACED PROMINENTLY ON THE STEERING WHEEL?) THAT ADVISES THE DRIVER THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN FITTED WITH THE REDESIGNED AIR INTAKE CONNECTOR AND THAT VACUUM BRAKE FAILURE MAY OCCUR WHENEVER THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS BELOW X DEGREES F (Y DEGREES C) FOR PERIODS GREATER THAN I HOURS. 2010 RECALLED TOYOTA COROLLA TRANSMISSION FAILING- NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY LOOSES POWER THEN JERKS FORWARD WHENFINALLY SHIFTS. HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND ALL THE TIME ON STREETS AND FREEWAYS TOYOTA NOT PROBLEM FOUND I WAS ADVISED BY TOYOTA THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION DUE TO THE THROTTLE BODY WIRE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS NO FIX AT THIS TIME. SINCE ABOUT A MONTH AFTER PURCHASING MY 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA IN APRIL OF 2010 I HAVE HAD SEVERAL EXPERIENCES WITH THE BRAKES WHEN STOPPING ON MULTIPLE SURFACE TYPES, INCLUDING WET ROAD, UNEVEN SURFACE AND UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. THE BRAKES MAKE A GRINDING SOUND AND SEEM TO SKIP AS I PUSH DOWN, SLOWING MY BRAKING TIME AND MAKING ME FEEL LIKE I'M GOING TO NOT BE ABLE TO STOP. THE GRINDING WAS SO SEVERE THAT IT VIBRATED THOUGH MY LEG. MY VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY HOWEVER I DID TAKE IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHILE IT WAS COVERED AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT IN ORDER TO REPAIR IT THEY WOULD NEED TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. OF COURSE THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN, DID A BRAKE INSPECTION AND SAID IT WAS ALL JUST FINE. SHORTLY AFTER THIS VISIT, THE BRAKES DID THE SAME GRINDING WHEN STOPPING AS HAD HAPPENED BEFORE. I AM A CONSCIENTIOUS DRIVER AND TREAT MY VEHICLE GENTLY AND THERE IS NO REASON THIS SHOULD BE HAPPENING TO A BRAND NEW CAR. WE NEED MORE ATTENTION PLACED ON THIS PROBLEM AND A RECALL MUST BE ISSUED BEFORE THERE ARE MULTIPLE CASUALTIES. ALSO WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS HOW THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 2010 COROLLA FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES BUT THEY EXCLUDED CERTAIN STATES THAT ARE IN PROXIMITY TO STATES WHERE VEHICLES WERE RECALLED. HIGH SPEED STEERING IS VERY SENSITIVE. MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH. OVERSTEERING IS COMMON. THE CAR CHANGES LANES WITH JUST 1/2" OF MOVEMENT ON THE STEERING WHEEL. *TR

THE CONSUMER STATED ON MAY 10, 2010, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS HESITANT TO STOP. JUST PURCHASED NEW 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA 4 DAYS AGO AND I'M HAVING STEERING DIFFICULTY AT SPEEDS OF 60+ MPH. THE CAR IS VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP CENTERED IN THE LANE AND IT CONSTANTLY SWAYS LEFT AND RIGHT. STEERING CORRECTION IS NEEDED EVERY FEW SECONDS TO PREVENT UNINTENDED LANE CHANGES. IT FEELS AS IF THE CAR IS BEING BOUNCED AROUND BY STRONG WINDS, BUT NO WIND IS PRESENT. THE CAR FEELS OUT OF CONTROL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND I AM VERY CONCERNED AS TO ITS SAFETY. *TR

ON THE THIRD VISIT TO A DEALER, A TECHNICIAN RODE IN THE CAR AND POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED THE NOISE. THEY THEN CLAIMED TO HAVE TAKEN APART THE WHEELS/BRAKES ONLY TO CLAIM THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM AND REFUSED TO REPLACE THE BRAKES UNDER THE EXISTING WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. BECAUSE THE BRAKES MAKE SUCH A LOUD NOISE SO FREQUENTLY, IT WOULD SEEM THE CAR MAY BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN I DROVE IT ON THE FREEWAY I SAW THAT THE CAR IS LOOSING BALANCE (THE BACK CAR SHAKES), I FOUND STABILITY PROBLEMS (AS IF I DRIVE IN STRONG WINDS), AND BIG STEERING PROBLEMS (AS I LEARN TO DRIVE A TRICKY BICYCLE). TO GET AND MAINTAIN AN ALMOST CONTROL ON THE CAR DIRECTION I HAVE TO FOCUS MY ACTIONS AS MY COROLLA HAS ONLY TWO WHEELS LIKE A BIKE. I ALMOST ACT AS AN EQUILIBRATE FOR A ROPE DANCING. THE EXPERIENCE OF DRIVING MY COROLLA SHOWED THAT I HAVE LIMITED CONTROL OVER IT, AND MOST CONTROL I LOST WHEN I HAD TO USE SUDDEN BRAKES AT HIGH SPEED - IT WAS LIKE ON THE ICE. BACK JUMPS AND I STIR IN SAME DIRECTION; BACK JUMPS AGAIN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION AND I CHANGE THE STEERING IN THE OTHER DIRECTION TOO, AND SO ON. THESE EVENTS OCCUR ALMOST EVERY TIME I DROVE WITH SPEED AROUND 60 MILES/HOUR ON THE FREEWAYS THAT ARE NOT STRAIGHT. THE CONSEQUENCE IS THAT I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY NEW CAR BECAUSE I AM NOT ABLE TO CONTROL IT, AND I RISK AN ACCIDENT. I WENT TO TOYOTA DEALER, THEY SAID THAT THEY KNOW THE SITUATION FROM OTHER CUSTOMERS TOO, BUT NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 35 MPH, THE CONTACT ABRUPTLY DEPRESSED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND.
