STEERING THE COROLLA IS DIFFICULT AND REQUIRES INTENSE EFFORT. THE ISSUE IS THE CAR WONDERS/SWERVES AND IS THUS DIFFICULT TO KEEP TRACKING CORRECTLY. THIS IS FIRST ELECTRIC POWER STEERING VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED AND PERHAPS IT RESPOND DIFFERENTLY FROM HYDRAULIC STEERING BUT THIS STEERING ISSUE IS VERY DANGEROUS, TAKING YOUR EYES OFF THE ROAD EVEN TO SCAN GAUGES WILL HAVE YOU STEERING OFF THE ROAD OR ADJACENT LANE. JUST BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE 1/19 WITH ONLY 70K SO IT'S IN MINT CONDITION AND NO ACCIDENT HISTORY OR EVIDENCE TO BLAME.
SUDDEN FAILURE OF MY CAR'S POWER STEERING: I WAS DRIVING AT ABT 50-55 MILES PER HOUR AT I-880 GOING NORTH, I WAS MAKING A LANE CHANGE BECAUSE MY EXIT WAS APPROACHING, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, I LOST MY POWER STEERING, MY STEERING WHEEL BECAME SUPER HARD TO MOVE OR TURN, AND I ALMOST HIT THE REAR-RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, WHICH WAS AT THE SAME LANE. I WAS ABLE TO CHANGE LANE BUT IT WAS A VERY CLOSE CALL FOR COLLISION-ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR HAS ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS). SUCH EPS SHOULD HAVE A BACK UP SYSTEM, OR SUCH FAILURE SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ALL OF A SUDDEN--IN A BLINK OF AN EYE. WITHOUT A BACK UP SYSTEM, SUCH SUDDEN FAILURE COULD RESULT IN FATAL ACCIDENT. IT WAS TOO SCARY, PANICKY, N STRESSFUL FOR ME. THEN, WHEN MAKING A LEFT N A RIGHT TURN, BECAUSE OF MY SUPER HARD TO TURN-STEERING WHEEL, I SUFFERED A SPRAIN N PAIN IN THE LEFT SIDE N THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY BODY. THE MILEAGE OF MY CAR WAS ABOUT 106470 MILES WHEN IT HAPPENED.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HORN BEGAN TO FAIL AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V340000 (AIR BAGS) BY TOYOTA OF PHARR (1625 W EXPY 83, PHARR, TX 78577, 1-800-347-2360). IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE PART THAT WAS REPLACED CAUSED THE FAILURE OR IF THE REMEDY WAS THE CAUSE. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT A SERVICE APPOINTMENT NEEDED TO BE SCHEDULED FOR THE HORN FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TAKATA RECALL. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP (BOB HOWARD TOYOTA IN EDMOND, OKLAHOMA) TO SCHEDULE THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT BUT WAS TOLD THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PART AND WILL CALL ME WHEN THE PART IS AVAILABLE. I ASKED THE EMPLOYEE IF WE COULD GET A RENTAL OR LOANER CAR IN THE MEANTIME SINCE WE USE THE PASSENGER DAILY FOR OUR KIDS. SHE INFORMED ME THEY DO NOT DO THAT AND THAT I NEED TO CALL TOYOTA DIRECTLY VIA THE NUMBER ON THE RECALL FORM. AFTER TALKING TO TOYOTA THEY INFORMED ME I SHOULD RECEIVE A CALL FROM TOYOTA RELATIONS AT THE DEALER (BOB HOWARD TOYOTA) WITHIN 48 HOURS. AFTER WAITING A WEEK AND RECEIVING NO CALL I DECIDED TO CALL TOYOTA DIRECTLY AGAIN. I WAS THEN INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP WAS SUPPOSE TO CALL ME BACK ON THE 27TH OF AUGUST (48 HOURS FROM ORIGINAL CALL WITH TOYOTA) BUT THEY DID NOT. WHEN TOYOTA TRIED TO REACH OUT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE PERSON IN CHARGE OF HANDLING THESE MATTERS WOULD NOT ANSWER THEIR CALLS. SO NOW I AM WAITING AN ADDITIONAL 24 HOURS TO GET A CALL BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO GET A LOANER CAR. DURING THIS WHOLE THING WE ARE STILL DRIVING A CAR WITH A AIRBAG THAT COULD POTENTIALLY KILL SOMEONE!

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BACK, NECK AND SHOULDER INJURIES THAT NEEDED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF ANY INJURIES FROM THE OTHER VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THE VEHICLE INSURANCE DECLARED THE VEHICLE DESTROYED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT FAILED TO RESPOND AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND WAS ABLE TO STOP. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER (VANN YORK TOYOTA, 500 EASTCHESTER DR, HIGH POINT, NC 27262, (336) 885-9016) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS AN ACCELERATION MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ADDITIONALLY, THE LOCAL DEALER REQUESTED A SIGNATURE AND STATEMENT REGARDING THE INCIDENT AND WHAT OCCURRED DURING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT DECLINED TO SIGN THE FORMS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 180410871. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,346.
THE CAR WAS DRIVEN ON A HIGHWAY FOR A 40 MINUTE TRIP AND WHEN WE GOT HOME THE DASH HAD STARTED TO MELT AND BURN. IT STARTS ON THE CENTER CONSOLE NEAR THE AIR BAG SIGN AND CONTINUES TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR ACROSS THE LOWER GLOVE COMPARTMENT.
WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL IT SEEMS TO JUST LOCK UP AND DOESN'T WANT TO TURN, AND I HAVE TO FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN. IT HAPPENS ABOUT 2 TO 3 TIMES A WEEK. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY A CAR THE OTHER DAY BECAUSE I COULD NOT GET TURN THE CORNER FAST ENOUGH BECAUSE I WAS TRYING TO TURN THE WHEEL. IT ALSO FEELS LIKE IT'S LOCKING UP WHEN I AM DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ALSO. I READ HUNDREDS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE ON OTHER 2010 TOYOTA COROLLAS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE, IT FAILED TO STOP. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO AN ELECTRICAL POLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED CHEST AND ARM INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE HOME OF THE CONTACT'S SISTER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
TAKATA RECALL THIS REMEDY HAS NOT YET BEEN PERFORMED AFTER CONTACTING THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER AND BURNSVILLE (MN) TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER DIRECTLY 3 TIMES. I CONTACTED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER WHEN I FIRST RECEIVED THE LETTER ON 02/12, SPOKE TO PAM , AFTER SHE SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE CENTER, ADVISED ME THE PARTS WOULD BE ORDERED IN 2-3 DAYS. ON 02/21 I CALLED THEM AGAIN AND THE REP STATED THE PARTS WERE NEVER ORDERED, SO SHE PUT IN A REQUEST AND ADVISED ME TO WAIT A COUPLE OF DAYS. I CALLED ON 02/26 DIRECTLY TO BURNSVILLE TOYOTA, SARAH SAID THE PARTS WERE NEVER ORDERED AND SHE WOULD "PUSH IT THROUGH" DURING OUR PHONE CALL. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE DUE TO THE FACT I FEEL THAT I'VE BEEN FAILED THIS REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME. I'M WAITING TO GET MY OIL CHANGE DONE SAME DAY. I FEEL I HAVE BEEN NEGLECTED AND THIS NOTICE WAS TO INFORM ME OF AN IMPORTANT RECALL THAT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO PASSENGERS. PLEASE ADVISE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
TAKATA RECALL: THE DEALERS DID NOT HAVE THE REPLACEMENT PARTS READY IN A TIMELY FASHION AND IT WAS A WEEK UNTIL IT COULD BE REPLACED. THE DEALERS IN ARLINGTON, VA WERE ILL EQUIP TO FIX THE RECALL IN TIMELY FASHION.

ALSO MY CAR COMPUTER IS NO WORKING WELL. WE BELIVE MECHANIC DID NOT DO THE JOB PROPERLY. MECVHANIC WAS FIRED OR HE DID LEAVE MIAMI. WHY? AND ASKING ABOUT THIS MECHANIC BUT NO ANSWERS. ALSO MANAGER OF RELATIONS OF THE DEALER PHONED ME AND HER WORDS WERE WITHOUT CARE ABOUT POSSIBLE ACCIDENTS AND LOST OF HUMAN LIVES. PLEASE TO CONTACT THE DEALER ABOUT IT. ...TOYOTA OF SOUTH FLORIDA.
BRAKING SENSOR/SKID LIGHT COMES ON AT RANDOM, THEN OCCASIONALLY THE ENGINE STARTS BRAKING IN TRAFFIC, AND SOMETIMES THREATENS TO QUIT, NEEDING TO PULL OFF OF HIGHWAY AND KEEP RESTARTING CAR UNTIL I GET A SMOOTH SOUND. (1ST TIME LIGHT CAME ON, I SKIDDED ON A SMALL PATCH OF ICE, THE ALARM WENT OFF, THE LIGHT CAME ON, AND I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON, SURE DIDN'T NEED TO WARN ME I WENT FOR A SKID, ALREADY KNEW THAT, DIDN'T LIKE BEING SCARED TO DEATH BY THE NOISE)

ACCORDING TO TAKATA, THE PROPELLANT IN THESE INFLATORS MAY DEGRADE AFTER PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO HIGH ABSOLUTE HUMIDITY AND FLUCTUATING HIGH TEMPERATURES. DEGRADED PROPELLANT CAN CAUSE INFLATOR RUPTURE DURING AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. SAFETY RISK: IN THE EVENT OF AN INFLATOR RUPTURE, METAL FRAGMENTS COULD PASS THROUGH THE AIRBAG CUSHION MATERIAL, STRIKING THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS, AND RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. REMEDY: THE REMEDY WILL CONSIST OF THE REPLACEMENT OF THE AIRBAG INFLATOR OR THE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY, DEPENDING ON THE VEHICLE MODEL.

WHEN I AM DRIVING MY 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA S ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF OVER 50 MPH IT DOES NOT STAY STRAIGHT. IT REQUIRES ALOT OF STRENGTH TO KEEP IT STRAIGHT. IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR IS BEING MOVED TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT BY WINDS. FEELS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE STEERING WHEEL IS SO STIFF TO TURN SOMETIMES. I HAVE DONE THE WHEEL ALIGNMENT SEVERAL TIMES AND PUT ON NEW TIRES RECENTLY BUT THE PROBLEM STILL REMAINS. VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I GET VERY TIRED AFTER DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS JUST MAINTAINING IN MY OWN LANE. THE DEALER'S ARE NOT MUCH HELPFUL AT ALL WITH THIS. I'VE READ ONLINE ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL WITH THE STEERING. THERE NEEDS TO BE AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS SOON BECAUSE IT'S VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.

THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

I'VE BEEN TRYING TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT SINCE DECEMBER 2017, BUT THEY WOULDN'T DO IT. FIRST THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, THEN THEY KEEP SAYING I HAVE TO WAIT ONE WEEK, AGIN SINCE DECEMBER.

THE PROBLEM WILL NOT CEASE UNTIL THE PART CAUSING THE PROBLEM HAS REACHED A TEMPERATURE OF ABOVE APPROXIMATELY 32 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. THE PROBLEM MAY CEASE WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN STATIONARY, BUT THE CONSISTENT POINT AT WHICH IT IS REMEDIED IS WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS ABOVE 32 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.

SECOND TIME I HAVE EXPERIENCED A SURGE. ON SLOWING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN MY CAR SURGED FORWARD INSTEAD OF TURNING. HAD TO ALMOST STAND ON BRAKE TO SLOW THE CAR. MY SON GOT IN A CRASH THIS PAST SATURDAY. HIS STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AS HE WAS TURNING COMING OUT OF AN INTERSECTION AND HE CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL. WE FILED A POLICE REPORT AND THEY CONFIRMED HE WAS IN THIS SINGLE CAR CRASH WITH NO OTHER REASON FOR THE CRASH.

TAKATA RECALL - REMEDY IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE FOR MY CAR, THOUGH IT'S BEEN SEVERAL YEARS SINCE IT WAS RECALLED.
BRAKES ARE VERY SPUNGY AND DO NOT SEEM TO INGAGE. BRAKES WILL FILL LIKE THEY ARE STARTING TO WORK AND THEN RELEASE AND YOU MUST PUSH BRAKES DOWN FURTHER BEFORE THEY WILL START BRAKING. VERY SLOW BRAKING RESPONSE TIME. HAD THE BRAKES BLEED TWICE AND DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM SO THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER AND THE CAR BRAKING DID NOT CHANGE AT ALL. MAKES ME VERY NERVOUS TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE DUE TO SLOW BRAKING RESPONSE.
WHEN NEEDING TO ACCELERATE THE CAR TAKES OFF LIKE A JET ROCKET WHEN THE PEDAL IS PRESSED. THE CAR SEEMS TO BE OUT OF CONTROL AND SHAKING VIOLENTLY. THIS HAPPENS USUALLY ON HIGHWAY WHEN GOING ABOVE 50. FEELS VERY UNSAFE. THIS IS A USED CAR I BOUGHT. THIS HAPPENS ON A REGULAR BASIS.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was making abnormal sounds and also vibrating. The contact stated that upon depressing the brake pedal gradually, the steering wheel and brake pedal would vibrate. Additionally, the contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The contact stated that the traction control warning light would illuminate intermittently and would cause the vehicle to shut off inadvertently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where all four ignition coils were replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was no longer losing motive power and stalling; however, the steering failure persisted. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
