2010 TOYOTA COROLLA AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS CAR WANDERS BADLY, HARD TO STEER, VERY WEIRD FEELING OF NO CONTROL OF VEHICLE. NOT JUST ONE TIME BUT NUMEROUS TIMES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MILES PER HOUR THE CONTACT BEGAN TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FINE. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY TOYOTA THAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE DRIVER. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,600.
2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. CONSUMER STATES ACCIDENT DUE TO TIRE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACT ERRATIC. AS THE VEHICLE WENT FROM SIDE TO SIDE, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT AND THEN FLEW INTO ANOTHER MOTORIST WINDSHIELD. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN PULLING TO THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT AND DID NOT STAY IN THE CENTER OF THE LANE. HE HAD TO CONTINUE CORRECTING THE VEHICLE AS HE DROVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY TEST DROVE IT BUT THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURER SENT A REPRESENTATIVE TO TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND THEY WERE ALSO UNABLE TO DUPLICATE DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, SHE HEARD A LOUD NOISE. THE FAILURE BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE PROBLEM COULD LIE IN THE COMPUTER; HOWEVER, THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 11,300. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,000.
PURCHASE NEW 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA DEC. 18 2009. UNDER ALL BRAKING CONDITIONS STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. UNDER NORMAL BRAKING CONDITIONS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. YOU TOUCH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT DOES NOT ENGAGE. THERE IS WAY TO MUCH BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL BEFORE YOU GET ANY BRAKING RESPONSE. THERE IS 1/2 INCH PEDAL MOVEMENT BEFORE YOU GET ANY BRAKE RESPONSE AT ALL. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS EVERYTIME YOU BRAKE. RETURN TO TOYOTA DEALER FOR REPAIR 12/21/09. NO REPAIR WAS DONE. THEY SAID THAT WAS THE WAY THE NEW BRAKING SYSTEM WORKED. JUST GET USE TO IT. *TR
WE HAVE A NEW 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA WITH ABOUT 9,000 MILES ON IT. THE STEERING ON THIS CAR IS "STRANGE" MAKING IT UNSAFE-- IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP IT IN A STEADY/SMOOTH LINE WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH OR GREATER -- YOU NEED TO MAKE CONSTANT MINUTE CORRECTIVE MOVEMENTS TO THE STEERING WHEEL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THERE WAS A SLIGHT HESITATION BEFORE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED AND SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN. SHE STATED THAT THE PROBLEM OCCURRED MOST OF THE TIME WHEN SHE ASSERTED THE BRAKE. FURTHERMORE, SHE STATED THAT THE REAR SEAT BELTS DID NOT WORK; THE BUCKLE WOULDN'T LOCK IN PLACE. SHE HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO-DATE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 785. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 500.

THE FAILURE CONTINUED SO THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,700. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 3,700.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL TO REPAIR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL UNDER RECALL 10V023000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE ON JANUARY 15, 2010 AND FEBRUARY 15, 2010. NEITHER OF THE REPAIRS WORKED AND THE VEHICLE STILL ACCELERATES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EVERY TIME SHE DRIVES THE VEHICLE NOW, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES ON IT ON. I WAS DRIVING A RENTAL 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA IN SIESTA KEY, FL. I CAME TO A STOP ON A BUSY DOWNTOWN STREET ON A FRIDAY NIGHT. AS I SAT AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AS PEDESTRIANS WERE CROSSING, THE CAR UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED FORWARD. I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL & AS THIS HAPPENED, I HELD MY FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING THE PEDESTRIANS. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO HOLD THE CAR BACK UNTIL THE ACCELERATION ENDED. THIS HAPPENED BEFORE THE PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA ACCELERATION WAS MADE PUBLIC. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO THE ENTERPRISE CAR RENTAL AGENCY IN PORT CHARLOTTE FL, WHERE I RENTED IT, BUT THEY DID NOT SEEM CONCERNED. IT WASN'T UNTIL A WEEK LATER THAT THIS STORY WAS IN THE NEWS. I CALLED THE NHTSB TO FILE A COMPLAINT, I'M FILING THIS COMPLAINT AGAIN AFTER HEARING THE GOV'T RESPONSE TO THE STUDY OF THIS PROBLEM. FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, I KNOW FOR A FACT THIS IS NOT CORRECT. THIS CAR I DROVE DID NOT HAVE THE PEDAL STICK OR FLOOR MAT PROBLEM. IT DEFINITELY ACCELERATED COMPLETELY ON IT'S OWN WITHOUT THE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. IF NEEDED , I MAY BE ABLE TO LOCATE THE VIN FROM MY RENTAL RECEIPT. *TR

I BOUGHT MY 2010 COROLLAS ON JAN 13TH. WHEN I DROVE IT HOME FOR THE FIRST TIME, I FOUND IT WAS VERY HARD TO KEEP IT IN THE CENTER OF THE LANE AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I HAD TO KEEP ADJUSTING MY STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER TWO DAYS LATER. THEY MADE SOME ADJUST AND IT IS NOT THAT BAD NOW, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I THINK THIS PROBLEM IS MORE SERIOUS THAN THE GAS PEDAL PROBLEM, BECAUSE THIS AFFECT DRIVING IMMEDIATELY AND DIRECTLY. TOYOTA SAYS THAT THIS IS HOW EPS IS DESIGNED, AND WE HAVE TO ADAPT OURSELVES. BUT NO MATTER HOW THE STEERING SYSTEM IS DESIGNED, MOVING STRAIGHT FORWARD SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FAILURE WAS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE DUE TO THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM SENSITIVITY WHEN DEPRESSED AND WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THAT THERE WOULD BE A RESPONSE WITHIN A TWO DAY PERIOD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000. UPDATED 05/18/10. *LJ

I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK INTO THE CORRECT LANE, BUT IT DRIFTED BACK OUT OF LANE AND I HAD TO REDUCE SPEED TO PROPERLY CORRECT THE SITUATION AND AVOID SIDE-SWIPING A VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,000.
TWO PROBLEMS, 1) ACCELERATOR IS HARD TO MODULATE WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP, WILL GO AT HIGHER SPEED THAN WANTED. 2) ONCE IN A WHILE WHEN COMING TO A STOP, THE BRAKES FEEL LIKE THEY PULSE, OR THE VEHICLE JUST HIT A SMALL PATCH OF ICE WHEN THERE WAS NO ICE. A WEIRD FEELING. I DON'T KNOW IF THE CAR ACTUALLY GOES A FEW FEET FURTHER THAN I WANTED IT TO OR IF THERE IS JUST A PULSE THAT MAKES YOU FEEL THAT WAY. *CW
FEB. 15, 2010 TO: NATIONAL HIGHWAY SAFETY ADMINISTRATION RE.: DEFECT IN TOYOTA COROLLA I RECENTLY REPORTED TO BOTH MY LOCAL TOYOTAL DEALERSHIP AND TO TOYOTA MOTOR SALES USA (NATIONAL CUSTOMER RELATIONS, 9001 SOUTHWESTERN AVE, DEPT. WC11; TORRANCE, CA 90509) THAT THE PLAY ON THE TRUNK LID ON OUR 2010 COROLLA WAS SO LOOSE THAT EVEN THOUGH THE TRUNK LID WOULD BE PUSHED ALL THE WAY UP, A SUDDEN GUST OF WIND WOULD SEND IT FLYING DOWN ON WHOEVER WAS LOADING ITEMS INTO THE TRUNK. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS TO MY WIFE. ON ONE OCCASION THE LID CAME DOWN ON MY WIFE'S HEAD AND AGAIN ON HER ARM ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED PHOTO SHOWING THE EFFECT OF THE LID BEING BLOWN DOWN ON HER ARM. THE DEALER AGREED THAT COMPARED TO THE TRUNK LID ON MY CAMRY, THE LID ON THE COROLLA DID INDEED SWING TOO FREELY AND THAT THE CAUSE WAS A DESIGN FLAW AS THE LID WAS FUNCTIONING WITHIN THE MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS . THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT I CONTACT TOYOTA. I DID THAT, EXPLAINED THE SITUATION, AND WAS ASSIGNED CASE. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE REGARDING THIS DESIGN FLAW. PERHAPS YOU CAN CONVINCE TOYOTA TO REDUCE THE "PLAY" ON THE TRUNK LID SO THAT WE CAN ACTUALLY USE THE TRUNK OF THE CAR WITHOUT EXPERIENCING INJURY. *TR
FROM THE DAY I PURCHASE THE CAR (A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA) AND DROVE IT OFF THE LOT WITH ONLY 16 MILES. I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD CONSTANTLY OVER CORRECT AND ATTEMPT TO DRIFT OUTSIDE ITS LANE AT HIGH SPEEDS (ABOVE 45 MPH). AT FIRST, I THOUGHT IT WAS SIMPLY A NEW CAR BREAKING IN AND MY BROTHER'S CAR (A 2008 MAZDA 3) SHOW THE SAME BEHAVIORS BUT QUICKLY WENT AWAY THE MORE HE DROVE (AROUND THE 500 MILE MARK). HOWEVER, THIS DID NOT OCCUR IN MY VEHICLE AND I AM CONSTANTLY HAVING TO DEAL WITH THE OVERLY SENSITIVE STEERING OF THE CAR. THIS IS HAS AN AFFECT OF TIRING ME OUT FROM ALL THE OVER CORRECTION. CURRENTLY, I HAVE GARAGED THE TOYOTA AWAITING WORD FROM THE DEALER ON THE GAS PEDAL REPAIRS AND USING MY OLDSMOBILE. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. I HOLD NO ILL WILL TOWARDS THE DEALERS, IN FACT I FEEL BAD THAT THEY ARE CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE. I CERTAINLY WOULD LIKE TOYOTA TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. *TR
TOYOTA COROLLA 2010 STEERING ISSUE. CAR DOES FEEL LIKE IT COULD GO OUT OF CONTROL. FEELS LIKE A STRONG WIND IS BLOWING AGAINST THE CAR. MOSTLY AT A HIGHER SPEED. LIKE WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. 2010 COROLLA IS UNSTABLE AT SPEED OVER APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. THE CAR WANDERS DANGEROUSLY TO LEFT AND RIGHT, BEING PARTICULARLY VULNERABLE TO ANY CROSS WIND OR TURBULENCE FROM OTHER VEHICLES. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO USE ANY VEHICLE CONTROLS (SUCH AS TURNING ON THE DEFROSTER) WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITHOUT HAVING THE CAR VEER SUDDENLY OFF COURSE. THE CAR FEELS AS IF IT IS MISSING A SUSPENSION COMPONENT IN THE FRONT END- THERE IS A DANGEROUS LACK OF STABILITY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I EVEN PURCHASED NEW TIRES AFTER ONLY 2000 MILES IN AN ATTEMPT TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM, BUT IT IS THE CAR AND NOT THE TIRES CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
ON 2/8/10 TOYOTA PERFORMED A RECALL REPAIR OF THE GAS PEDAL ON MY 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS FINISHED, I NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE IDLE SPEED WAS HIGHER AND THE VEHICLE TOOK LONGER TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. *TR
I BOUGHT A NEW 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA S AND REALIZED THAT I CAN'T CONTROL THE STEERING AT SPEEDS OVER 50MPH. THIS PROBLEM WAS NOTED, TO MY SALESMAN, THE SAME DAY I PURCHASED THE CAR. I TALKED TO A REPRESENTATIVE AT TOYOTA'S CORPORATE OFFICE, BUT HE TOLD ME THEY CAN'T HELP UNTIL THEIR IS A PROBLEM. WHEN I DRIVE ON THE EXPRESS WAY THE CAR'S STEERING IS UNPREDICTABLE, UNSAFE, AND DEFECTIVE. I'M FORCED TO DRIVE THIS CAR BECAUSE IT'S MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. *TR

I BOUGHT MY TOYOTA COROLLA S ON DECEMBER 30, 2009. WITHIN A WEEK OF PURCHASING THE CAR, I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEGAN TO FEEL SPONGY AND NON-RESPONSIVE. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS INITIALLY TOLD THAT THIS MODEL HAD A LONGER BRAKE TRAVEL THAN PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS. I PERSISTED IN GETTING THE DEALER TO ADJUST THE REAR LININGS AND BLEED THE BRAKES AND THIS SEEMED TO HELP SOMEWHAT. BUT AS THE BRAKES WEAR, I CAN FEEL THE PROBLEM OCCURRING AGAIN. THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DIFFICULT TO MODULATE, HAS A SPONGY, NON-LINEAR FEEL THAT INCREASES BRAKING DISTANCES AND MAKES THE CAR MORE DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. I FEEL THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THESE CARS THAT SHOULD BE RECTIFIED IMMEDIATELY BY TOYOTA. *TR

FAILURE OF BRAKES WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT HAS HAPPENED QUITE FREQUENTLY. I LIVE ON A DIRT ROAD WHICH IS WASH-BOARD BUMPY. I ALSO EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM PULLING INTO MY PARKING SPOT AT WORK WHICH IS BUMPY. THE BRAKES FAIL AND THE CAR MAKES A NOISE WHEN GOING OVER THE BUMPS. AFTER THE BUMPS, IT CORRECTS ITSELF. NO CARS I HAVE DRIVEN OVER THE SAME CONDITIONS HAS EXHIBITED THIS PROBLEM. I HEARD ABOUT THE PRIUS PROBLEM AND THAT WAS THE EXACT PROBLEM I HAD EXPERIENCED. MY NEW 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA S HAS AN ISSUE WITH STAYING ON THE HIGHWAY. MY CAR SEEMS TO PULL TO THE LEFT WHEN I GET UP TO 55-60MPH. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER WITH THIS COMPLAINT AND THEY DID SAY ONE TIRE WAS A LITTLE LOW. THEY HAVE PUT AIR IN BUT IT DID NOT CHANGE. *TR
STEERING "WANDERS" SLIGHTLY MOST OF THE TIME, RESPONDING TO ROAD SURFACE, WIND, PASSING TRUCKS AND OTHER VEHICLES. IT FEELS LIKE I DO NOT HAVE COMPLETE CONTROL OVER WHERE MY CAR GOES -- THAT THERE IS NO DIRECT CONTROL OVER THE STEERING BY THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS REQUIRES 100% ATTENTION TO THE CAR'S DIRECTION BECAUSE, IF I LOOK AWAY EVEN FOR A MOMENT, THE CAR DRIFTS ON ITS OWN. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I OWNED AND DROVE AN EARLIER MODEL TOYOTA COROLLA (2004) UNTIL I BOUGHT THIS CAR; IN THE 2004 MODEL, THE STEERING WAS PRECISE AND THE CAR HELD THE ROAD BEAUTIFULLY. THE EARLIER CAR HELD THE LINE I ESTABLISHED. NOT SO THE NEW ONE -- IT HAS BEEN CHANGED, AND THE CHANGE LEAVES THE CAR IN CONTROL, NOT THE DRIVER. I FEEL LIKE I GO "WIGGLING" DOWN THE ROAD, NOT DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THE STEERING ON THIS CAR IS "STRANGE" -- IT HAS LITTLE TO NO ROAD FEEDBACK AND SEEMS TO HAVE "DEAD SPOTS" IN IT -- YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT MORE EFFORT TO GET PASS THESE. I WILL NOT LET MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DRIVE THIS CAR. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR ONLY SIX WEEKS AND WOULD SURELY GIVE IT BACK IF I COULD. WHILE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AS LOW AS 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD VEER TO THE RIGHT. ALSO, THE KEYLESS REMOTE, WHICH ALSO ACTS AS A VEHICLE LOCATOR, WOULD ONLY OPERATE INTERMITTENTLY. OFTEN, THE VEHICLE LOCATOR ALARM WOULD GO OFF ON WITHOUT DRIVER INPUT. THE DEALER ADVISED CHANGING THE BATTERIES IN THE KEYLESS REMOTE. THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE DEALER THEN ATTEMPTED TO REPROGRAM THE KEYLESS ALARM SENSOR AND ADVISED THE LOCATOR COULD ONLY BE USED FOR SHORT-RANGE LOCATING. NO FURTHER REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 6,300. THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKES DID NOT PERFORM AS DESIGNED. UPDATED 07/19/10*JB

WHEN I DROVE MY 2010 COROLLA FROM THE DEALER IT HAD FIVE MILES ON IT. WITHIN ONE HALF MILE I REALIZED THAT THE CAR WANDERED LEFT AND RIGHT AND NEEDED ME TO STEER LEFT AND RIGHT TO KEEP THE CAR IN THE CENTER OF THE ROAD. I KNEW RIGHT AWAY THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE CASTER ADJUSTMENT WAS SET SO THE CASTER WAS FACED FORWARD. I BROUGHT IT BACK AND THE SERVICE MGR SAID IT WAS DESIGNED TO HAVE THE CASTER SET FORWARD BY TWO DEGREES. I AM 72 AND A CAR GUY. A FORWARD CASTER WILL CAUSE THE CAR NOT TO BE ABLE TO STEER STRAIGHT. IT WAS TO BE DRIVEN BY MY GRAND DAUGHTER WHO HAS 18 MONTHS DRIVING EXPERIENCE. WE BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE TO HAVE THE CASTER SET TO 'FOLLOW' RATHER THAN 'LEAD'. THE SERVICE PEOPLE SAID IT WAS SET TO TOYOTA DESIGNS OF TWO DEGREES FORWARD. THAT IS THE PROBLEM ALONG WITH, MAYBE, SOMETHING IN THE ELECTRONIC CONTROLS THAT MIGHT BE ADDING TO THE PROBLEM. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED. IF TOYOTA DOESN'T SPEAK TO THIS AND CORRECT IT I NEED TO HAVE THIS CAR REPLACED BY AN AMISH HORSE AND CARRIAGE. TOYOTA HAS INTRODUCED A NEW FEATURE THAT IS DEADLY. *TR

THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE MAY HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO OPERATE IN THAT MANNER. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 982 AND THE CURRENT WAS 6,220.
