I OWN 2007 TOYOTA MATRIX. 28,161 CURRENT MILEAGE. FOUR (4) GOOD YEAR TIRES - EAGLE P205/55R/16 COME WITH MATRIX. DEFECTIVE TIRES. OTHER 3 TIRES STILL LOOKS GOOD CONDITION BUT ONE OF THE SIDEWALL DRIED PREMATURELY AND THE TIRE APART INTO 2 PIECES WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I SENT THE EMAIL TO CONTACT GOODYEAR LAST SAT 8/27/2011. FOR SAFETY REASON, I WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE DIFFERENT MODEL TIRES. BUT GOODYEAR DID NOT REPLY AT ALL. I TAKE SOME PICTURES ALSO. *TR
1. WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH AND THE CAR BEGAN SHAKING HARDER AND HARDER. 2. THE TIRE'S SIDEWALL WAS COMPLETELY SHREDDED ON BOTH SIDES, AS IF IT WERE DEFECTIVE. 3. THE TIRE WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED, BUT IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AS OF LAST MONTH. *TR
MAUS TOYOTA REFUSES TO REPLACE "FLYING HUPCAPS"! I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER MATRIX OWNERS AND SEEN MANY MATRIXS WITH MISSING HUBCAPS. MAUS TOYOTA SAYS IT WILL REPLACE THE HUBCAPS FOR $77. EACH! I TOLD MAUS THAT TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL THE 2007 MATRIXS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT BY A FLYING HUBCAP COMING OFF AT 60MPH AND THERE SHOULD BE NO REPLACEMENT CHARGE BECAUSE IT IS TOYOTA'S FAULT FOR USING WEAK PLASTIC CLIPS TO HOLD THEIR HUBCAPS ON! HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA MATRIX--WAS LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD AND HAD APPROX 17000 MILES. NOTICE THE TIRE LOOKED LOW ON AIR ONE DAY--REMOVED THE TIRE TO CHECK FOR NAILS OR DAMAGE AND FOUND NO--SO TOOK THE TIRE TO A GARAGE AND THEY PUT THE TIRE IN A WATER BATH AND FOUND A LEAK ON THE SIDE WALL--I TOOL THE GOODYEAR EAGLE TIRE TO A GOOD YEAR DEALER--AS THAT WAS THE ORIGINAL TIRE ON THE CAR--THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TIRE--SO DECIDED TO BUY A NEW SET OF MICHELINS. WHEN THE GOODYEAR TIRE WAS REMOVED FROM THE RIM THE MECHANIC SHOWED IT TO ME AND THE BEAD ON THE SIDE WALL--ABOUT THAT IS IN THE VICINITY WHERE THE SIDEWALL AND TREAD ARE JOINED WAS SEVERELY CRACKED--HE SAID IT WAS A BLOW OUT WAITING TO HAPPEN AND DEFINITE DEFECTIVE TIRE FOR LESS THAN A YEAR OLD VEHICLE AND ONLY 17,000 MILES. *TR
I HAVE HAD FOUR WHEEL COVERS COME OFF AT HIGH SPEEDS. IN TWO CASES I WAS ABLE TO HEAR NOISES AND THIS REPRESENTED THE WHEEL COVER HITTING OBJECTS AS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAVELING OVER 60 MILES PER HOUR. THE AUTOMOBILE IS A 2007 TOYOTA MATRIX WITHOUT ANY OPTIONS. THUS IT IS FACTORY EQUIPPED WITH PLASTIC COVERS THAT SLOWLY WORK THEIR WAY LOOSE DUE TO THE VERY LITTLE CONSTRUCTION OF THE COVER AND THE FLEXING OF THE WHEEL THAT WILL OCCUR. I CONTACTED TOYOTA. I WAS TOLD IN A SOMEWHAT ARROGANT VOICE THAT THEY DO "NOT" HAVE A PROBLEM. THIS IS A PROBLEM AND AT SOME POINT IN TIME ONE OF THESE COVERS WILL STICK A PERSON. I HAVE NOW CHANGED TO A TOYOTA CAMERY WHEEL COVER. THIS COVER HAS A GREAT DEAL OF ADDITIONAL PARTS TO IT. IT HAS SPRINGS AND AN ADDITIONAL MATERIAL THAT PREVENTS THE SLOW MOVEMENT OF THE WHEEL COVER FROM COMING OFF. I LOST A TOTAL OF THE ORIGINAL COVERS. TOYOTA IS CHARGING IN EXCESS OF $70.00 FOR A REPLACEMENT. THUS IF IT WAS MY CAR I MIGHT BE DELIGHTED THAT I AM PROFITING FROM A POOR ENGINEERING MISTAKE. THIS EXPERIENCE FROM HAVING CONTACTED TOYOTA ALLOWS ME TO HAVE AN APPRECIATION FOR WHAT MUST BE ARROGANCE AT THE UPPER LEVEL MANAGEMENT OF THIS CORPORATION. STRONG MEASURES SHOULD BE APPLIED AND THE SOURCE OF THIS POOR ATTITUDE SHOULD BE WEEDED OUT OF THIS CORPORATION. *TR
POTENTIAL FAILURE - EXECESSIVE TIRE WEAR. I HAD THE TOYOTA MATRIX TIRES ROTATED AT THE DEALERSHIP AT 5,000 MILES WAS NEVER TOLD THAT I HAD, WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN VERY NOTICABLE WEAR TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED AGAIN AT 21,000 , AND THE MECHANIC SAID THE TIRES HAD VERY EXECISIVE WEAR FROM A THE FRONT END BEING OUT OF ALINEMENT. I AM THE ONLY DRIVER AND A CAREFUL DRIVER. I BELIEVE THIS CAR WAS OUT OF ALINEMENT FROM THE DAY I BOUGHT IT, AND THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE ALERTED ME OF MY 5,000 CHECK UP.*AK
