TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, ANOTHER VEHICLE CUT IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT QUICKLY DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SKID. THE CONTACT LET UP OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STRAIGHTEN THE VEHICLE AND STAY IN HER LANE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTILOCK BRAKES FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT SHE HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR AN OIL CHANGE BEFORE THE FAILURE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER RECALL. THE CONTACT CALLED FRED ANDERSON TOYOTA OF ASHEVILLE (777 BREVARD RD, ASHEVILLE, NC 28806) AND INFORMED THEM OF THE RECALL ON THE BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP ASSEMBLY. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVER THE MILEAGE FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 197,000.
THE CASING OF THE BRAKE ACTUATOR IS CRACKING. THE BRAKE ACTUATOR APPARENTLY IS AN UNDERLYING PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR AND FIX.
THE BRAKES MAKE SOUNDS WHEN PRESSED. LOOK INTO THE INTERNET AND PRIUS CHAT FORUMS AND TAKING TO LOCAL MECHANIC AND FOUND THE BRAKE ACTUATOR IS FAULTY AND NEED REPLACING ASAP.
FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT BELT DID NOT BUCKLE IN-LOCK IN, THE MECHANISM IS NOT BROKEN, IT'T JUST NOT CLICK TO LOCK IN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GERMAIN TOYOTA OF NAPLES (13315 TAMIAMI TRAIL N, NAPLES, FL 34110, (888) 722-4942) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE LINEAR OFF SET VALUE NEEDED TO BE RE-LEARNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,399.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND CAR BEGAN TO LOSE SPEED -- ONLY PERMITTING TRAVEL AT ABOUT 50 MPH. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES, THE CAR SHUT OFF ENTIRELY. FORTUNATELY, WAS ABLE TO GET TO SIDE OF ROAD BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DUE TO LACK OF WARNING, AND FACT THAT WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WHERE OTHERS ARE GOING 60-70MPH OR FASTER. THE INVERTER OVERHEATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS ISSUE WAS PART OF A RECALL, BUT DID NOT INCLUDE MY YEAR/CAR. EXTREMELY UPSETTING THAT TOYOTA DOES NOT RECALL IT OR AT A MINIMUM SEND A WARNING TO OWNERS TO HAVE THIS LOOKED AT. THIS CAN CAUSE POTENTIALLY FATAL ACCIDENTS, AND TOYOTA SEEMS TO BE AWARE OF THE ISSUE.
RECALL NOTICE EOE WAS PERFORMED ON MY 2010 PRIUS TO CORRECT AN INVERTOR PROBLEM. A SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS PERFORMED. ACCORDING TO MY DEALER AT CAPISTRANO TOYOTA AS WELL AS OTHER DEALERS THIS WAS JUST A BANDAID AND NOT A TRUE FIX. THE OWNER OF CAPISTRANO TOYOTA AS WELL AS OTHER TOYOTA DEALERS HAVE WRITTEN TO TOYOTA THAT THE INVERTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER H,S HAD MANY CARS COME BACK AFTER THE SOFTWARE FIX AND HAD TO HAVE THE INVERTOR CHANGED. IF THE INVERTOR FAILS WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR CAN POSSIBLY JUST STOP RUNNING OR SLOW DOWN TO 15 MILES. THIS WILL BE VERY DANGEROUS AND POSSIBLY DEADLY.
I STATED TO THE GLENDALE TOYOTA DEALER IN CALIFORNIA THAT I HEAR AND FEEL A BUZZ/CLICK WHEN I STEP ON THE BRAKE AND THEY INFORMED ME IT IS THE BRAKE ACTUATOR AND WARRANTY EXPIRED IN DECEMBER 2017. I AM REQUESTING IS AN EXTENSION TO THIS WARRANTY OR VOLUNTARILY MAKE IT A SAFETY RECALL. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE TO FIX.
VEHICLE HAS LOST POWER ON THE FREEWAY MULTIPLE TIMES FORCING ME TO PULL OVER. IN ONE INSTANCE I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY A SEMI. THE VEHICLE WILL SHOW A TEMPERATURE WARNING AND WILL THEN SHUT DOWN AND READ, "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM". THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP CLAIMS IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE AND WILL GO IN FRONT OF A JUDGE IN JANUARY. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA ABOUT THIS AND THEY TELL ME IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN UNLIMITED MILEAGE RECALL BUT TOYOTA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN THIS MORNING TO MY WIFE WHO WAS ON A FREEWAY WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 70MPH. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ERROR AND I WOULD HATE TO SEE SOMEONE DIE BECAUSE THEIR CAR STOPS ON THE FREEWAY. THIS VEHICLE HAS ALSO HAD SEVERAY P0401 CODES, THERE IS AN WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT FOR THIS AS WELL BUT LIMITED TO 150K MILES. I WAS TOLD BY THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IT WAS ALSO A CULPRIT FOR A BLOWN HEAD GASKET.
I RECENTLY NOTICED THAT WHEN I OPEN THE CAR DOOR TO GET INTO THE CAR (WITH THE ENGINE OFF), THE BRAKE ASSIST PRIMES FOR QUITE A BIT (> 30 SECONDS). THEN I START MY CAR, I NOTICE THAT THE SOUND CAN BE HEARD PRIMING THE BRAKE (VACUUM?) EVERY 15 SECONDS OR SO AND LASTING ABOUT 3-5 SECONDS. IT PRIMES EVERY TIME I RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE BRAKE ACTUATOR IS BAD AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACE OR THE CAR WILL NOT SOME IN DRIVING CONDITIONS.
The headlights on my car would get very dim and would burnout within 4 to 6 months. As time has past the time between bulb replacement would get shorter and shorter. At this point when I plug replacement bulbs into my car the burnout instantly. Without low beam headlights I am required to drive with my high beams on at all times. The dealer and the manufacture know about the problem and there was a notification regarding this issue with the headlights, but I was not sent this notice. Had I been sent the notice from Toyota I would have brought my car into the dealership for them to inspect the light problem. From what I have learned from Toyota is that there was never a recall on this issue. Headlights on a car I would think would be considered a major safety feature and should not have an expiration date on such a repair issue. The program to fix the issue was called Customer Support Program ZHB which allowed the dealers to correct the problem. How would anyone know that there was a problem unless they get a notification.
MY VEHICLE ABRUPTLY SLOWED DOWN ON ILLINOIS HIGHWAY 94 SOUTH BOUND AT 33 EXIT AT 2:00PM AUGUST 10. FORTUNATELY I WAS IN RIGHT LANE, WHICH HAD A SLIGHT SLOPE THAT ALLOWED ME TO DRIVE MY CAR TO THE SERVICE LANE. AFTERWARDS, I TRIED TO START MY CAR WITHOUT ANY SUCCESS. I CALLED MY CAR INSURANCE AGENT ON 2:11PM TO TOW MY CAR TO MY MECHANIC. THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE INVERTER/CONVERTER. MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED AGAIN TO THE TOYOTA DEALER BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM WAS IN RECALL.
AFTER CHANGED ALL THE 12V BATTERY AND 201V BATTERY PACK BRAND NEW. ALL THE FLUID; OIL, COOLING WATER, TRANSMISSION ALSO BEEN CHANGED NEW, EVEN CLEAN OUT THE EXHAUST CO2 DEPOSIT IN THE PIPE, BASICALLY THE ENGINE BEEN CLEAN OUT LIKE NEW. THE PROBLEMS NOW IS NOT START OR PUT INTO READY MODE. DUE TO THE INVERTER AND ICU U1 CIRCUIT BOARD NOW SENDING THE SIGNAL TO THE DASH BOARD. DASH BOARD ONLY SHOW FLASHING ENGINE LIGHT, PUSH BUTTON SHOW AMBER NOT GREEN. I HEARD TOYOTA IS RECAL THE SOFTWARE ON THE INVERTER, THIS IS NOT GOING TO HELP, DUE TO REPROGRAM THE KEY AND THE IMOBOLIZER CAUSE THE INFOR ON THE DASH TO SHUT DOWN, THE OBDII CANT EVEN READ OR FUNCTION. NOW MY 2010 HYBRID IS DEAD. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE HELP.
BRAKE ACTUATOR KEEPS ACTIVATING EVERY 10 SECONDS. THE CARS ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, AND BRAKES ERROR LIGHTS HAVE ALL COME ON. BRAKES ARE COMPROMISED IN SOME MANNER WHICH CAN POSE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES WHILE DRIVING.
WHEN BRAKING WHILE CAR IS GOING OVER A POTHOLE, CAR WILL BRIEFLY ACCELERATE FORWARD BEFORE STOPPING.
BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR. BRAKE LIGHT IS ON. DEALER SAYS ACCUMULATOR PUMP IS BAD. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ITEM. THEY REPLACED IT UNDER RECALL IN 2014 AND REFUSE TO DO IT AGAIN. QUOTED $2000 TO REPAIR. CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING EITHER. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND STILL HAVING THE SAME SAFETY ISSUES IS NOT OK. I AM 6 MONTHS PREGNANT AND CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX AN ITEM THAT SHOULD BE COVERED FOR LIFE OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THIS RECALL.
LEAVING A PARKING LOT DRIVING AT UNDER 20 MPH, 'CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM' FLASHED WITH ENGINE ICON APPEARING; AMBIENT TEMPERATURE AT 104 DEGREES. DROVE HOME AND CONNECTED WIFI ELM 327 THAT DISPLAYED P0A080 DTC. FAILURE MILEAGE 152510 JUST OUTSIDE 150K CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS WARRANTY BUT BELOW 10 YEAR WARRANTY AT 9 YEARS AND 2 DAYS FAILING 07-16-18. DROVE TO NEAREST TOYOTA DEALERSHIP 07-17-18 WHO DIAGNOSED DTC P0A80 P0A3000 TO BATTERY BLOCKS V06 12.67 VOLTS, V07 13.91 VOLTS. V05 14.14 VOLTS, V09 14.18 VOLTS, V10 14.18 VOLTS. DETAIL CODE 1 IS 123. POOR FUEL MILEAGE AND OSCILLATING CHARGE DISCHARGE OF HYBRID BATTERY PACK BEGAN 02-09-2015 AT 91,036 MILES TYPICALLY 42.7 MPG. TOYOTA MOTOR SALES DENIED GOOD WILL ASSISTANCE REQUEST CITING OUT OF WARRANTY CASE # 1807172401. REMEDY IS REPLACE HYBRID BATTERY PACK AT NEAR $4K WITH CORE EXCHANGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 167,000.

EXCESS OIL CONSUMPTION, USED 2 QUARTS OF OIL BEFORE NEXT OIL CHANGE, TOYOTA'S DON'T CONSUME OIL THE WAY THIS CAR DOES , I'VE NEVER OWNED A CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM USING SO MUCH OIL. THE BURNT OIL IS GOING TO EVENTUALLY BUILD UP CAUSING MORE ISSUES IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBERS AND SMOG DEVICES .

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR SIMILAR VEHICLES PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V235000 (SERVICE BRAKES). DELUCA TOYOTA (1719 SW COLLEGE RD, HWY 200, OCALA, FL 34471, (352) 732-0770) WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 166,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Prius. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, while coming to a stop on wet pavement, the vehicle failed to stop and crashed into the vehicle ahead of him. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. There were no injuries sustained. The contact stated that whenever the roads were wet, excessive force on the brake pedal was needed to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 208,000.
AFTER REGULAR CHECK-UPS AND MAINTENANCE AT 90000 MILES AND 8 YEARS OF DRIVING, ALL OF A SUDDEN THREE BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON, THE ABS, HAND BRAKE, AND SKID CONTROL LIGHTS ALL CAME ON. AT THIS TIME THE BRAKING ISSUES SEEM TO BE LESS RESPONSIVE BRAKING AND SLIGHT JERKING WHEN PUTTING CONSTANT PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES AT LOW SPEEDS. WHEN BROUGHT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, THEY NOTED THAT THERE ARE NO ISSUES, HOWEVER THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER IS LIKELY TO FAIL SOON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PARKED ON A SMALL HILL, UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE AND SHIFTING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL FORWARD DOWN THE HILL. THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED BUT FAILED TO ENGAGE AS THE VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH A NEIGHBOR'S FENCE AND TRAILER. THE BRAKE WARNING WAS LIGHT ILLUMINATED DURING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED BRUISING TO THE KNEE AS WELL AS HE ALSO SUSTAINED BRUISING TO THE KNEE THAT REQUIRED NO MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LAKELAND TOYOTA (2925 MALL HILL DR, LAKELAND, FL 33810) WHERE THE BRAKES WERE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A TOYOTA ENGINEER ASSISTANCE FIELD INSPECTOR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 197,356.
I TOOK MY PRIUS TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON, TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM THE DEALER REPLACED MY MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER AND BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP ASSEMBLY. I FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE 2010 PRIUS. T-CP-DOM DATE OF ISSUE JULY 1, 2013. THE RECALL IS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM I HAD, I DO NOT KNOW WHY I AM BEING EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. PLEASE REPLY
I KEEP HAVING TO REPLACE THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS IN MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHAT IS GOING ON? MY COMMUTE TO AND FROM WORK EVERYDAY IS 3 HOURS AND WITH DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME I AM USUALLY GOING TO WORK IN THE DARK OR COMING HOME IN THE DARK. MY LIGHTS WENT OUT ON MY WAY HOME IN THE DARK ONCE AND I HAD TO USE MY HIGH BEAMS TO GET HOME SAFE. I AM SURE THIS WAS BLINDING TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AS INDICATED WITH ALL THE FLASHING OF HIGH BEAMS I GOT.
MY BRAKES RECENTLY STOPPED WORKING AS THEY NORMALLY DO (YOU HAD TO PRESS EXTREMELY HARD ON THE PEDAL TO GET IT TO STOP) AND SEVERAL LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. PRIOR TO THIS THE CAR WAS MAKING A VERY STRANGE NOISE WHEN YOU START TO PUSH ON THE BRAKES. NOT LIKE A TYPICAL SQUEAKY BRAKE SOUND. I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA AND THEY GAVE ME A QUOTE FOR $3,700 STATING THAT I NEEDED A NEW BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY. I DISCOVERED A RECALL FOR 2010 PRIUS FOR THE EXACT DIAGNOSTIC CODE AND THEY SAID MY PRIUS WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. WHEN YOU "REBOOT" THE COMPUTER ON THE PRIUS, THE LIGHTS AND BRAKE PROBLEM GO AWAY. THIS APPEARS TO BE A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM WITH THE 2010 PRIUS FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON-LINE AND TOYOTA IS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING IT. IT'S ALSO A VERY COSTLY REPAIR THAT SEEMS TO BE EASILY FIXED WHEN YOU REBOOT THE COMPUTER ON THE CAR. WHAT IS GOING ON? HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE PAYING TOYOTA FOR THIS FIX THAT APPEARS TO BE A WIDE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE THAT SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING?

THE VEHICLE WAS IN A PARKING LOT. UPON STARTING THE CAR, THE DASH DISPLAYED "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 25 MILES PER HOUR.
ON TWO OCCASIONS, JUNE 22, 2018 AND AUGUST 15, 2018 THIS VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHILE USING CRUISE CONTROL AND TRAVELING AT SPEED ON GENERALLY FLAT, STRAIGHT, 4 LANE ROAD IN GOOD WEATHER. I HAVE ATTACHED DOCUMENTS WITH SUMMARIES OF EACH EVENT AND MAPS SHOWING ROUTE AND TERRAIN DURING THE EVENTS. HARD BRAKING SLOWED BUT DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE EITHER TIME. BOTH TIMES, AFTER TRAVELING SOME DISTANCE WHILE BRAKING BUT CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE MADE A THUNKING NOISE FELT THROUGH THE FLOOR OF THE CAR AND SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING. IN THE FIRST INCIDENT THIS WAS AFTER ABOUT 2 MILES, THE SECOND TIME AFTER ABOUT A MILE. AFTER EACH INCIDENT I PHONED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT IF THEY COULD REPLICATE THE EVENT THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO FIGURE IT OUT. I REPORTED THE EVENTS TO CORPORATE TOYOTA AND AN INVESTIGATION WAS OPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FRED ANDERSON TOYOTA OF ASHEVILLE WHERE THEY SPENT SEVERAL DAYS WITH THE CAR, INTERACTING WITH TOYOTA, WHO WAS ASKING THEM TO EXPLORE AND TEST VARIOUS THINGS RELATED TO THE DUAL PEDAL FAIL SAFE, THE COMPUTER, SNAPSHOTS OF EVENTS ON THE COMPUTER ETC. THEIR FINAL JUDGEMENT WAS THAT FLOOR MATS MAY HAVE INTERFERED, THOUGH IT WAS THE FIRST THING I CHECKED WHEN I REGAINED CONTROL OF THE CAR.
I WAS ON THE FREEWAY IN TRAFFIC, GOING 60 MPH. THERE WAS ROAD CONSTRUCTION COMING UP AHEAD. I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND NOTHING HAPPENED. THE CAR DIDN'T SLOW DOWN AT ALL AND I CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED WHEN THE 'VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL' BY TOYOTA WAS SUPPOSED TO ADDRESS THIS, BUT I RECEIVED NO NOTIFICATION, NOR DID THOUSAND OAKS TOYOTA, WHERE I HAD THE CAR SERVICED, COMMUNICATE ABOUT IT. *JS
I'VE COUNTED AT LEAST 30 BRAKE BOOSTER/ACTUATOR COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE YEAR TO DATE FOR THE SAME ISSUE ON THIS MODEL YEAR CAR. OUR ISSUE IS THE SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE. JUST UNDER 150K MILES, BRAKE, ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON MY DAUGHTER'S CAR (WE ARE ORIGINAL OWNERS) AS SHE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. NON RESPONSIVE BRAKES, ONLY REAR BRAKES ENGAGE IF YOU PUSH THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR OF THE CAR. TOOK TO DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED DTC C1391, ACCUMULATOR LEAK MALFUNCTION. OUR CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ORIGINAL WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT (MANUFACTURE DATE OF 1/2010), SO PRICE QUOTED WAS $4814.66. OUR DAUGHTER CANNOT AFFORD, SO WE CALLED TOYOTA WARRANTY WHO OFFERED US $2007 AS A MEASURE OF GOOD WILL, BUT NO MORE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, BEYOND RIDICULOUS THAT SOME CARS WITH THE SAME DEFECT HAD THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM AVAILABLE WHICH PAID FOR THE ENTIRE REPAIR, YET MOST OTHERS LIKE US WERE DENIED THE FIX AND ARE FACING ASTRONOMICAL REPAIR BILLS THAT MANY CANNOT AFFORD, NOR ANTICIPATE ON A CAR SUCH AS A TOYOTA. THE BRAKES FAILED WHILE MY 22 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING - THAT COULD HAVE GONE SO VERY WRONG.
WHILE DRIVING ON A BUMPY SURFACE THE BRAKES SLIP WHEN APPLIED. STOPPING ABILITY IS REDUCED. THIS HAPPENS ON A REGULAR BASIS, ON SURFACE STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. I HAVE NOTICED IT WHILE STOPPING IN A STRAIGHT LINE, BUT IT MAY ALSO HAPPEN WHILE STOPPING ON A CURVE.
PARK, ABS, VCS, (!) WARNING LIGHTS ON IN DASHBOARD. OTHER SYMPTOMS - BARKING BRAKES AND CONTINUOUS PUMP WHINE, A CYLCING ELECTRICAL NOISE WHILE PARKED. SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE ACTUATOR.
BRAKES SLIP AND LOSE GRIP WHILE BRAKING AND TRAVELING OVER MODERATE BUMPS OR POTHOLES, ALSO HAPPENS WHILE BRAKING HARD.
WHILE DRIVING OUR 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS II ON THE INTERSTATE WE BEGAN NOTICING A BURNING SMELL. THEN, THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. WE PULLED ONTO AN OFF RAMP AND AS WE SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN SMOKE BEGAN COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WE DROVE VERY SLOWLY DOWN THE ROAD AND THE SMOKE BECAME MORE PREVALENT. WE TURNED ON A SIDE STREET AND MY HUSBAND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, GOT OUT, WALKED TO THE FRONT, AND NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER FRONT HEAD LAMP WAS MELTED AND THERE WAS A FLAME. WE QUICKLY GOT OUR FAMILY OUT OF THE CAR (2 KIDS IN CARSEATS IN THE BACK). WE MOVED AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE FLAMES BECOME LARGER AND LARGER. WE CALLED 911 AND THE HOOD WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES BY THE TIME THE FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED. THEY WERE ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT QUICKLY, SO IT DID NOT SPREAD INTO THE FRONT CABIN OR REAR OF THE VEHICLE. WE HAD NOT HAD ANY RECENT WORK DONE AND THE VEHICLE WAS FULLY OPERATIONAL UNTIL THE TIME OF THE FIRE. WE HAD NOT BEEN EXPERIENCING ANY PROBLEMS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT.

WARNING LIGHTS : ABS , BRAKE , AND ANTI-SKID COME ON AND STAY ONE. BRAKE PEDAL IS SPONGY AND UNRESPONSIVE. THE ERROR CODE READS OUT P1241 & C1391 WHICH INDICATE BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP FAILURE. ABS BRAKES HAVE FAILED.
C1391 - ABS SYSTEM FAILED
BRAKE SYSTEM HAS KEPT MAKING AIR PUSHING SOUND BUT SUDDENLY I CANNOT PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL AT ALL. IT FEEL LIKE BLOCKED. BRAKING FORCE IS NOT WORKING
ON 05/12/2018, THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY, WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE MESSAGE "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" WAS DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEABLE AT NORMAL STREET SPEEDS AND HAD TO BE TOWED OFF THE FREEWAY ONRAMP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ON 05/16/2018, WHERE THE DIAGNOSTIC FOUND THAT THE INVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DIAGNOSTIC DID NOT FIND ANY OTHER FAULT CODES. THE INVERTER WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THEN, 3 WEEKS AFTER THE COMPLETED REPAIR (LESS THAN 200 MILES), ON 06/11/2018, THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND IDLING WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE MESSAGE "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" WAS DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SAME TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE DIAGNOSTIC FOUND THAT THE FAULT CODE WAS WITH THE HYBRID BATTERY THIS TIME, WHEN IT PREVIOUSLY HAD NOT BEEN AN ISSUE. AFTER THE CODE WAS CLEARED, THE VEHICLE WAS 100% DRIVEABLE AND TAKEN HOME WHILE WE CONSULTED OPTIONS FOR ALTERNATIVE REPAIR OR DIAGNOSTICS.
SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE PRIUS. BRAKE ACTUATOR/BRAKE BOOSTER FAIL. THE BRAKING IS SERIOUSLY COMPROMISED BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT IS KNOWN TO TOYOTA, BUT THEY WILL NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. WHEN THE BRAKE/ABS/TRAC LIGHTS ARE RESET THE BRAKES FUNCTION PERFECTLY FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN THE LIGHTS/PROBLEM RETURNS.
BRAKE ACTUATOR HAS FAILED. TRACTION CONTROL, ABS, BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON DASH. MORE EFFORT NEEDED TO ENGAGE BRAKES. THIS AFFECTS THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING AS IT NO LONGER CHARGES ON BRAKING AS IT WAS DESIGNED. CHECKED TOYOTA WEBSITE FOR RECALLS SINCE THIS IS SAFETY RELATED, AND THERE ARE NONE. WHICH IS QUITE DISTURBING. I'VE RESEARCHED PRIUS FORUMS AND THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM. TOYOTA ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE GENERATION 2 MODEL, HOWEVER THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM FOR GENERATION 3 MODELS AS WELL. THE PROBLEM DID OCCUR WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT 60 MPH.
TOYOTA INVERTER FAILURE. MY SPECIFIC VIN WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT THE IPM DID FAIL, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET, WHILE DRIVING, MY CAR LOST ALL POWER & WENT INTO LIMP HOME MODE. FORTUNATELY THE STREET WASN'T BUSY & I WASN'T STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AS I HAD MY 6 WEEK OLD NEWBORN IN THE CAR WITH ME. I HAD DUTIFULLY CHECKED TO SEE IF MY CAR WAS INVOLVED IN THE RECALL & IT WASN'T, EVEN THOUGH IT FAILED. THEY ONLY FIX IT AFTER IT FAILS, WHICH IS OUTRAGEOUS. SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE WHEN THEIR PRIUS LOSES ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
THREE HEADLIGHT BULBS HAVE BURNED OUT REQUIRING REPLACEMENT BEFORE THE ODOMETER REACHED 70,000 MILES. TOYOTA SENT A NOTICE OF A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM IN 2017 ON THIS ISSUE, DESCRIBING THE PROPOSED REPAIR AS THE INSTALLATION OF "VOLTAGE ADJUSTMENT WIRE HARNESSES." AS INSTRUCTED, I TOOK MY 2010 PRIUS TO A DEALERSHIP ON JANUARY 19, 2018 AND WAS TOLD THAT IT REQUIRED A REPAIR, BUT THE PARTS WERE NOT IN STOCK AND WERE ON BACK ORDER. IN A FOLLOW UP CALL TO THE DEALERSHIP ON APRIL 26, 2016, THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THE PARTS WERE STILL ON BACK ORDER, AND THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF WHEN THEY MIGHT BE RECEIVED. THE ADMITTEDLY DEFECTIVE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN MY CAR CAN AND HAS CAUSED MY HEADLIGHTS TO BURN OUT PREMATURELY, WHICH IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. EVEN THOUGH TOYOTA RECOGNIZES THE PROBLEM, THEY SEEM TO BE DRAGGING THEIR FEET IN CORRECTING IT.
THE OTHER DAY MY BRAKE LIGHT, TRACTION, AND ABS LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND THEY SAID IT'S CODE C1391 - ABNORMAL LEAK IN THE ACCUMILATOR, ELECTRICAL ISSUE, AND I MUST GO TO THE DEALER. I'VE SEEN OTHERS COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS. SHOULDN'T THIS BE A RECALL?
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS "TURNED ON" ON THE DASHBOARD WHILE DRIVING ALONG FREEWAY. HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL HARDER TO STOP THE CAR. SEARCH ONLINE ON WHAT MIGHT BE CAUSING THE WARNING LIGHTS, IT WAS FOUND OUT THAT SO MANY TOYOTA PRIUS CAR OWNERS WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THE SYMPTOM WAS CAUSED BY EITHER FAULTY ACCUMULATOR OR MASTER CYLINDER/ACTUATOR.
THE TRACTION LIGHT, THE ABS LIGHT AND THE BRAKE LIGHT APPEAR ON THE DASH. I HAVE ALREADY PAID THE MECHANIC APPROXIMATLY $1,500 FOR REPAIRS AND NOW I AM TOLD I NEED THE ABS BRAKE BOOSTER WHICH COSTS AN ADDITIONAL $2,546.26. THIS PART HAS BEEN RECALLED ON OTHER 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS MODELS, BUT NOT MINE. I CANNOT AFFORD THIS FIX, SO I AM DRIVING MY CAR AS IT IS. BRAKE PEDAL ACTS DIFFERENTLY EACH TIME I USE THE BRAKES.
