DRIVING ON HIGHWAY IN MODERATE AND HEAVY RAIN OR SNOW AFFECTS THE WINDSHIELD SHADE AND VISIBILITY TO SEE THE ROADWAY CLEARLY. THE SHADE OF THE WINDSHIELD IS DULL GREY UNTIL DRIVING ON CITY STREETS OR GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY. CAR DEALERS HAD NO ANSWERS OR SOLUTIONS IN THE PAST.
ANTILOCK BRAKE ACTUATOR AND PUMP FAILURE. QUOTED AS A $4700 REPAIR AT DEALER WITH LABOR. PARTS ARE JUST OVER $3600. THERE WERE RECALLS ON GEN 2 PRIUS'AND EXTENDED WARRANTY ON OTHER PRIUS' . THIS CAR FALLS UNDER NO HELP AT ALL. WE ARE ORIGINAL OWNERS AND CAR HAD BEEN ESSENTIALLY PROBLEM FREE. DISGUSTED THAT THIS DANGEROUS AND KNOWN PROBLEM ISN'T BEING PROPERLY ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA. ALL LIGHTS ON DASH RELATED TO BRAKES LIT UP WHILE DRIVING. STILL HAD BRAKES. TOOK TO DEALER TO CHECK PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, AN ABNORMALLY LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD AND THEN THE SUN ROOF SHATTERED. THE GLASS EXPLODED AND IMPLODED WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER (ARLINGTON TOYOTA, 10939 ATLANTIC BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32225, (904) 302-9611) WAS NOTIFIED AND A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS ALSO NOTIFIED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TT CONTACT STATES VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT 78MPH AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000. *TT
THE VEHICLE WAS HAVING ISSUE WITH THE STEERING LOCKED UP WHEN TURNING WITH MOTION ABOUT 20+MPH. THE HYBRID SYSTEM IS NOT AS ADVERTISED THE 50MPG IN ANY WAY AS IT ONLY GETS AVERAGE ABOUT 35MPG. THE VEHICLE HAS 87000 MILES AND THE OLD SYMPTOMS FROM SECOND GENERATION FOLLOWED SUIT WITH IT. THE DASH WENT TOTALLY OFF WHEN WEATHER IS COLD AND SUDDENLY TURNED BACK ON WHEN IT GETS WARM. I HAD DRIVEN A FEW MILES WITHOUT THE DASH ON AND IT WAS A BAD EXPERIENCE SINCE I CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE SPEED OR WHAT IS GOING ON. THE STEERING IS THE MAJOR ISSUE AS WE DARE NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR AND THE TECHNICIANS FROM THE DEALER SAID NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE BUT THIRD PARTY TECHNICIANS RECOMMEND TO TAKE TO TOYOTA FOR RECALL.U TURNS ARE THE WORSE THAT LOCKED THE STEERING AND THE CAR ALMOST COME TO A STOP WITH BEEPING ALARMS.
THE HEADLIGHTS KEEP GOING OUT, MAKING DRIVING AT NIGHT UNSAFE UNTIL YOU CAN GET IT FIXED. IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN, MARCH, 29, 2018. IT HAPPENED 2/11, 6/11, 12/12, 1/13, 6/13, 3/15, 1/16, 7/17 AND NOW. IT WASN'T RAINING, NOTHING INTERESTING AT ALL. LOCAL DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO COME TO A STOP, OR WHEN DRIVING OVER A BUMP, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STOPPED AFTER A DISTANCE, BUT NOT WHEN PROMPTED. ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GULLO TOYOTA OF CONROE (45 S, CONROE, TX 77304 ,(888) 483-0321) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL AND DID NOT OFFER FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 147,000.
VSC, BRAKE, AND ABS LIGHTS ARE ON SYMPTOMS: CRUISE CONTROL WILL BUMP UP THE SPEED THEN "CANCEL" CRUISE CONTROL THE ABILITY TO "SET" CRUISE IS REJECTED VSC, BRAKE, ABS LIGHTS TURN ON NO REGEN BRAKING BRAKES NEED WAY MORE EFFORT TO SLOW/STOP ABRUPT BRAKING WILL CAUSE A SKID ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED.
MY WIFE HAD A 'NEAR-DEATH' EXPERIENCE ON 22-MAR-18 WHILE DRIVING HER PRIUS (2010) BACK HOME. SHE WAS DRIVING ON A HIGH SPEED INTERSTATE FREEWAY (I-10) IN HOUSTON AND SUDDENLY HER ABS BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED AND SHE CAN SHE ALL WARNING LIGHTS IN THE DASHBOARD (ABS WARNING LIGHT, BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, SLIP INDICATOR) WERE LIT. AS SOON AS SHE SAW THESE WARNING, SHE TRIED TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE SAFELY BY APPLYING BRAKES, BUT BRAKES WERE BARELY RESPONSIVE. AT THIS TIME, SHE WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED AROUND 65 MPH. SHE KEPT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDALS AND SLOWLY MOVED TOWARDS THE SHOULDER AREA. AFTER TRAVELING FOR SOME DISTANCE, THE VEHICLE STOPPED EVENTUALLY. SHE CALLED TOW TRUCK AND TOOK THE CAR TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP NEARBY. WE ARE WAITING FOR THE RESPONSE FROM THE TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER ABOUT THE FAULT.
AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE BRAKES FAILED; THE PEDALS WENT TO THE FLOOR. SHE HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID HITTING SOMEONE. SHE CONTINUE TO PRESS THE PEDALS AND THE CAR EVENTUALLY STOPPED. WHEN I GOT TO HER I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND TESTED THE BRAKES. THIS TIME THE PEDALS WOULD BARELY GO DOWN AND WOULD ONLY STOP THE VEHICLES IF YOU WENT 5 TO 10 MPH. IT RENDERED THE CAR UNUSABLE. I FOUND ONLINE THAT THERE WAS RECALL FOR 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS'S BUT TOYOTA SAID MY VIN WASN'T LISTED IN THE RECALL FOR AN ACTUATOR.
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 50MPH, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DISPLAYED BRAKE, ABS, (!), AND TCS. AS I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN, BRAKES LOST EFFECTIVENESS AND BECAME MUSHY. I HAD TO PRESS ON BRAKE PEDAL EXTRA HARD TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN AND BRING TO CAR TO A STOP. PEDAL TRAVEL AND FORCE REQUIRED WAS WAY MORE THEN NORMAL.
MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN IN TRAFFIC, ENGINE, STEERING, TRANSMISSION ALL QUIT AND I WAS ALMOST IN A HORRIFIC ACCIDENT AS I COULD NOT CONTROL THE CAR OR GET OUT OF ANYONE'S WAY. THE CHECK HYBRID WARNING LIGHT WAS ALSO ON. IT WAS TOWED AND THE GARAGE SAID IT WAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THAT CAUSED COMPLETE FAILURE.
MY EMERGENCY BRAKE HAS FAILED. I PARK ON A HIL AND MY CAR ALMOST WENT DOWN WITHOUT ME IN IT , I WAS GETTING SOMETHING OUT OF THE BACK SEAT WHEN THE EB FAILED, LUCKILY THE DRIVERS DOOR WAS OPEN AND I WAS ABLE TO JUMP IN AND BRAKE WITH THE NORMAL BRAKES. ALSO WHILE BRAKING AND GOING OVER A BUMP MY BRAKES FAIL FOR A SECOND.
I OWN A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS IV. I CONCUR WITH ALL THAT HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED ABOUT ABS AND BRAKING ISSUES WITH THE PRIUS. TWO WEEKS AGO MY BRAKES STARTED TO SQEAL. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED ALL WAS WELL (BRAKE PADS,FLUIDS, OIL). A WEEK LATER THE BRAKE AND ABS INDICATOR CAME ON IN MY VEHICLE. THE BRAKING DISTANCE IS ELONGATED AS I HAVE TO PRESSED FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE FOR THE CAR TO STOP. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO RESET THE CAR. I DROVE FROM THE MECHANIC AND ALL APPEARED TO BE FINE UNTIL I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE INDICATORS CAME BACK ON IMMEDIATELY AND THE BRAKING CHANGED. I HAD TO PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN IN ORDER FOR THE CAR TO START. THE CAR ALWAYS SURGES FORWARD WHENEVER I HIT A POTHOLE, BUMP OR ANY ROUGH SURFACE. IN HIN SIGHT, WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR I HAD A FENDER BENDER BECAUSE THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD WHEN I WAS PARKING. I AM NOW DISCOVERING THIS ISSUE IS A KNWON ISSUED WITH TOYOTA; PARTICULARLY THE PRIUS. FIXING THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE EXPENSIVE. TOYOTA SHOULD COVER THE COST VIA A RECALL.
A TIRE BLEW OUT ON THE HIGHWAY, AND AFTERWARDS THE ABS LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT, AND TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON. APPARENTLY THE BRAKE ACUATOR HAS FAILED COMPLETELY.
HAD RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED.. VEHICLE SUDDENLY WAS POWERLESS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. STRUGGLED TO COAST TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. BARELY BEING REAR ENDED BY TRAFFIC APPROACHING FROM BEHIND. OVER HEATED INVERTER REPLACED AT NO CHARGE BY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THEN DEALERSHIP TRIED TO TELL ME THE CAR NEEDED $5200 IN ADDITIONAL WORK. I AM IN DISBELIEVE I WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE A CAR WITH OUT THIS WORK BEING DONE TO IT.
MY 2010 PRIUS HAS RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE - APPROXIMATELY 44,000 MILES. IT HAS BEEN ROUTINELY MAINTAINED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED NEW. I JUST REPLACED THE TIRES A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, AND THE ONLY ISSUES HAVE BEEN THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL & THE NEED TO REPLACE AIR FILTERS MORE FREQUENTLY THAN MAY BE NORMAL BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE A GARAGE SO IT IS PARKED OUTSIDE IN A DRIVEWAY WHERE EXPOSURE TO POLLEN & DEBRIS FROM TREES IS EXCESSIVE. AFTER A SIGNIFICANT WIND & RAIN STORM WEDNESDAY NIGHT, THE ENGINE RATTLED & MADE UNUSUAL NOISES FOR SEVERAL SECONDS WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. THEN, THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. I CHECKED THE MANUAL, WHICH SAID NOT TO DRIVE & TO CALL A DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY, WHICH I DID. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE & IT SHOULD BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAITED UNTIL THE FOLLOWING MORNING & STARTED IT AGAIN TO VERIFY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEFORE HAVING IT TOWED. AFTER I WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 3 HOURS, THE SERVICE GUY TOLD ME THAT WHEN HE STARTED IT, THE CAR RUN FINE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF, & THEY WERE NOT SURE WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM, BUT THEIR DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION SHOWED A PROBLEM WITH AN OIL LEAK IN THE HEAD GASKET. I WAS QUOTED A COST OF APPROX. $1500 TO OPEN IT UP, FIX THE LEAK, & CHECK FOR ANY OTHER PROBLEMS. I GAVE THE GO-AHEAD, BUT AM WONDERING IF THIS IS SYMPTOMATIC OF A GREATER PROBLEM THAT WILL BE REPEATED. I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE REPAIR TODAY. MY GOAL IS TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT HAS 100,000 MILES OR SO & THEN TRADE IN FOR THE NEWER MODEL. DID I MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION? DO I HAVE A LEMON? IS THIS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2010 MODEL? IS IT REPARABLE, OR COULD THE ENGINE NOW BE WARPED AND IRREPARABLE?

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V235000 (SERVICE BRAKES). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 250,000. *TT
I FIND MYSELF CHANGING MY HEADLIGHTS MORE FREQUENTLY WITH THE PRIUS THEN ANY OTHER CAR IVE EVER HAD. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND MOST DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. FRONT LIGHTS ARE NEEDED, I'D LIKE TO ASSUME THEY PUT THEM THERE FOR SAFETY, RIGHT? DRIVING WITH HFH BEAMS IS JUST RUDE TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. DOUBLE SAFETY ISSUE HERE.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER ON OUR 2010 PRIUS WENT OUT AND WE WERE WITHOUT A FUNCTIONING SPEEDOMETER OR GAS GAUGE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DRIVE. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER 2010 PRIUS VEHICLES AND TOYOTA REFUSES TO WARRANTY THIS EXTREMELY COSTLY REPAIR, WHICH CAUSES MANY DRIVERS TO USE THEIR VEHICLES WITHOUT A SPEEDOMETER FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME.
I WAS AWARE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ALARM CAME ON WHEN I WOULD MAKE RIGHT OR LEFT HAND TURNS. TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR A CHECK. WAS TOLD THERE "WAS NO OIL ON THE DIPSTICK" SO HAD MY OIL CHANGED ON 2/21/2018 AND MY MILEAGE WAS 72704. THEY DID AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AT THIS TIME. WHEN I RETURNED AT 73696 MILES TO HAVE PHASE TWO OF THE TEST CHECKED, THE OIL WAS AT "FULL LEVEL". NOW AT 77,250 MILES AND AM HAVING TO ADD OIL AGAIN. STOPPED AT TOYOTA SERVICE ON 6/01/2018 FOR THEM TO CHECK THE WARNING LIGHT. VEHICLE WAS LOW ON OIL AGAIN. THEY TOPPED OFF THE OIL AT NO CHARGE. THANK YOU! WHEN ASKED WHAT ELSE COULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, I WAS TOLD I COULD REPLACE THE ENGINE. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN WITH MY 2010 PRIUS. NOT DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE FOR QUITE SOME TIME. GUESS I WILL CHECK AND ADD OIL AS NEEDED IN THE INTERIM.
OUR PRIUS HAS BEEN LOSING POWER. IT HAS 68K MILES AND WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS. DRIVING AT HWY SPEEDS WE NOTICED WE HAVE TO PUSH HARD DOWN ON THE GAS JUST TO GET THE CAR TO MAINTAIN HIGHWAY SPEEDS. HILLS ARE EVEN WORSE. WE ARE ALSO STILL WAITING ON THE PARTS TO FIX OUR HEADLIGHTS. OVER THE YEARS I HAVE CHANGED THE LOW BEAM BULBS AT LEAST 6 TIMES! WHEN ARE THE PARTS COMING?
COPIED THE BELOW FROM ANOTHER COMPLAINT BECAUSE THIS GUY IS HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE I AM HAVING, I BOUGHT THE CAR AUG 2017 RIGHT BEFORE THE PERIOD TO GET IT REPLACED EXPIRED, WAS NEVER NOTIFIED IN ANY WAY OF THIS WARRANTY CHANGE SO HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW I HAVE A DEFECTIVE PART ON MY CAR.. BUT THE DEALERSHIP STILL SOLD IT TO ME, NOW A MONTH AFTER THE ELIGIBILITY TO GET IT REPAIRED EXPIRES, MY BRAKES DIE AND TOYOTA SAYS THEY WONT HELP NOR IS THE DEALERSHIP RESPONSIBLE FOR SELLING ME THE CAR WITHOUT CHECKING IF THE RECALLED PART WAS REPLACED. THEY ALSO KEEP MENTIONING THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE ACTUATOR IS ONLY FOR "CERTAIN VIN'S". SO THEY ARE GONNA EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON CERTAIN 2010 PRIUS' BUT NOT ALL OF THEM.. THIS MAKES NO SENSE.. PLEASE HELP MY 2010 PRIUS IS HAVING ISSUES AS SAME AS THE SAFETY RECALL BACK IN 2013 ( 13V-235 ). THE ABS LIGHT, VSC LIGHT, AND BRAKE LIGHT WERE ON AFTER A BUMPY ROOAD IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE ACCUMULATOR. AFTER RESET THE SYSTEM, ALL THE LIGHTS WENT OFF BUT I STILL FEEL THE LOSSES OF PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. HOWEVER, MY CAR HAS 0 OPEN RECALL AND THE DEALER QUOTED ME OVER 5K FOR THE REPAIR WHICH IS RIDICULOUS COMPARE TO THE VALUE OF THE CAR.
WHEN I PRESS BRAKE ON THE BUMPED ROAD, THE CAR FUNCTION WEIRD AND SEEMS LIKE IT HAS SUDDEN "SHOCK" SO IT IS KIND OF LOSING CONTROL FOR THE CAR EVEN I DIDN'T PRESS BRAKE THAT HARD, IT HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES ALREADY DURING THE COURSE OF 7 YEARS THAT I OWNED THIS CAR, EVEN WHEN CAR IS NEW. I WAS SO SCARED AND NERVOUS, I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO REPORT THIS PROBLEM AND DID MENTIONED TO DEALER BEFORE. THE PROBLEM IS RANDOM AND UNPREDICTABLE AND I DON'T KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. BUT I GUESS I AM KIND OF CAUTIOUS ON WHEN I PRESS PEDAL WHEN I DRIVE. THIS IS MOSTLY HAPPEN IN LOCAL DRIVE, NOT HIGHWAY. IN DRIVING WHEN DRIVING FORWARD, MAYBE THERE IS SOMETHING ON THE ROAD, BUT IT SHOULD NOT BE DOING THIS AS IT IS VERY SCARY AND IT'S LIKE A SUDDEN "JERKY". ABS LIGHT STAYS ON, I HAVE NO BRAKES WHEN EMERGENCY BRAKING, THERE WAS A TOYOTA PRIUS RECALL ON BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND BOOSTER PUMP BUT TOYOTA SAID IT WAS NOT FOR MY VEHICLE. MY PROBLEM IS EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AS OTHER PRIUS BRAKE RECALLS BUT TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER IT. LESS THEN 65,000 MILES ON THE CAR . HOW CAN A MASTER CYL BE BAD BY NOW, THEY USUALLY LAST OVER 100,000 MILES. VERY UNSAFE , AND MAY KILL SOMEONE. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY TOYOTA WITH ALL THE OTHER BRAKE RECALL PROBLEMS WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL. I HAD TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES BUT MY CAR WOULD NOT STOP CAUSING ME TO RUN INTO A WALL AT THE BALTIMORE HARBOR TUNNEL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER DRIVING HIS VEHICLE FOR SEVEN HOURS, THE CONTACT HAD PARKED THE VEHICLE IN HIS FRIEND'S DRIVEWAY. AFTER THE CONTACT IDENTIFIED HIMSELF AS THE OWNER, THE FIREMAN INFORMED HIM THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FIRE. A FIRE REPORT AND POLICE REPORT WERE FILED AT THE SCENE. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED AS RESULT OF THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED BY THE FIRE AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT JUNK YARD. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT AN INVESTIGATION WOULD BE LAUNCHED REGARDING THE MATTER. THE CONTACT HAD SENT PHOTOS AND EMAIL CORRESPONDENCES TO THE MANUFACTURER; HOWEVER, HE NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THE MANUFACTURER. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED A RECALL ON HIS VEHICLE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V684000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM) WHICH HE LINKED TO HIS FAILURE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT SPOKEN TO A DEALER ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
AT ABOUT 125K MILES, MY PRIUS NEARLY RAN OUT OF OIL BETWEEN SERVICES, AND I RELIGIOUSLY SERVICE MY VEHICLE. I BURNED 1 TO 2 QUARTS BETWEEN SERVICES SINCE. AT 272,408 MILES, I JUST PAID $5751.59 FOR A COMPLETE ENGINE REBUILD... REST OF CAR IS IN GREAT SHAPE. OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS WERE KNOWN BY THE DEALERSHIPS, BUT I WAS GIVEN NO RECOURSE EXCEPT DEALING WITH IT. LATEST ISSUE..CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, MISFIRE ON CYLINDERS 1 AND 4 (PROGRESSING TO ALL), HORRIFIC KNOCKING NOISE WITH SOUND OF RUSHING WATER UPON START-UP. EVENTUALLY, (ONCE THE CYLINDERS FIRED SIGNIFICANTLY) THE ENGINE COULD RUN SATISFACTORILY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DRIVE... UNTIL THE NEXT START. EARLY ON I READ THAT TOYOTA KNEW OF THE UNDER-ENGINEERED MOTOR OF THE 2010S, BUT I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING ANNOUNCING A RECALL OR CARE TO FIX THEIR ENGINEERING ISSUE. I HAVE MY SERVICE RECORDS TO VALIDATE THE CARE I'VE GIVEN TO MY CAR. THE DATE OF THE ENGINE REBUILD IS WHAT I WILL PROVIDE AS TO WHEN THIS HAPPENED, BUT THE OIL CONSUMPTION BEGAN YEARS AGO.
EVERY 4 TO 6 MONTHS HEADLIGHTS ARE BURNING OUT.
MY CAR IS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS WITH NEARLY 100K MILES. I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROX 65 MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS TRYING TO MERGE ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I USUALLY MAINTAIN MY SPEED BUT IN THIS SITUATION OF TRAFFIC I SLOWED SLIGHTLY AND FLASHED MY HEADLIGHTS FOR THE DRIVER TO GO AHEAD OF ME. THE DRIVER SEEMED TO BE UNSURE OF MERGING SAFETY AND PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. IN THAT PROCESS I BRAKED TO SLOW AND THEN ACCELERATED IN AN EFFORT TO MAINTAIN SPEED WITH ONGOING TRAFFIC. THEN ODDLY THE ACCELERATION WENT FROM UNDER FOOT AS IF A 'GHOST' WAS PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AT FIRST I THOUGHT PERHAPS THE FLOOR MAT WAS IMPROPERLY PRESSING IT. I PRESSED THE BRAKE A BIT A FEW TIMES AND LOOKED TO THE HAZARDS TO ALERT OTHER VEHICLES BUT NEVER PRESSED THEM INSTEAD INTUITIVELY TRYING TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE PROCESS OF PRESSING THE BRAKES AND ACCELERATOR GENTLY SEEMED TO RESET THINGS. HARD TO SAY AS MOST OF MY ATTENTION WAS FOCUSED ON TRYING THINGS TO STOP THE ACCELERATOR. I JUST GOT LUCKY I THINK. I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR WITHIN A SHORT TIME THAT FELT LIKE A LONG TIME IN RETROSPECT. PERHAPS A MOMENT OR TWO THAT FELT LIKE LONGER. I DID NOT SEE INDICATING LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD AND THEY MAY HAVE LIT UP- I WAS DOING MY BEST TO NOTICE CARS AROUND ME AND MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. MY CAR HAS BEEN 'FINE' SINCE BUT I HAVE NOT GONE BACK ON THE FREEWAY. I HAVE NOT RETURNED TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP BUT THOUGHT ABOUT GOING TODAY. I'LL WAIT TO HEAR BACK IN CASE THERE ARE SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS I SHOULD FOLLOW FOR THAT TO HELP. I LOOKED ONCE STOPPED AND THE FLOOR MAT IS NOWHERE NEAR ANYTHING THAT COULD CATCH A PETAL. MY 2010 PRIUS IS HAVING ISSUES AS SAME AS THE SAFETY RECALL BACK IN 2013 ( 13V-235 ). THE ABS LIGHT, VSC LIGHT, AND BRAKE LIGHT WERE ON AFTER A BUMPY ROOAD IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE ACCUMULATOR. AFTER RESET THE SYSTEM, ALL THE LIGHTS WENT OFF BUT I STILL FEEL THE LOSSES OF PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. HOWEVER, MY CAR HAS 0 OPEN RECALL AND THE DEALER QUOTED ME OVER 5K FOR THE REPAIR WHICH IS RIDICULOUS COMPARE TO THE VALUE OF THE CAR.
MY CAR NEED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PUMP ASSEMBLY WHICH IS SAME AS ONE OF THEIR PAST RECALL IN 2013. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID MY CAR'S WAS NOT IN THE RANGE SO THEY DON'T COVER IT. YEA, CERTAIN VINS BUT IT IS CLEARLY THAT ALL THE 2010 PRIUS HAVE THIS ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF DOWNTOWN LA (1901 S FIGUEROA ST, LOS ANGELES, CA 90007) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WAS MISFIRING AND AN ENGINE COMPRESSION TEST WAS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,984.
CAR LOOSING OIL I ADD EVERY 500 MILES ONE LITER OF OIL
DRIVERS'S SIDE HEADLIGHT AND HIGH BEAM LIGHT GOING OUT AT SAME TIME. HEADLIGHT BULBS ON BOTH SIDES WERE CHANGED OUT IN NOVEMBER 2016 (A LITTLE MORE THAN A YEAR AGO) AND I ONLY HAVE A 10 MILE COMMUTE TO WORK. IN NOVEMBER OF 2016 DRIVER'S SIDE LIGHT WAS ALSO THE ONE THAT BURNED OUT.
APPROACHING A STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL IN THE PRIUS WILL SUDDENLY LOSE RESISTANCE AND WILL NEED TO BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR WHERE THE BRAKES WILL FINALLY ENGAGE AND THE AUTO WILL COME TO A HARD STOP. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY AND IS DIFFICULT FOR A MECHANIC TO DUPLICATE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A TRUSTED MECHANIC (NOT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP) AND HE CONFIRMED IT IS AN HYDRAULIC PROBLEM AND THAT PADS/DRUMS/ETC. ARE OK. A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR 2010 PRIUS'S DESCRIBING THIS EXACT SITUATION BUT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. RECALL DETAILS THE BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP CONTAINS A COMPARTMENT FILLED WITH NITROGEN GAS. THIS NITROGEN GAS CAN LEAK INTO THE BRAKE FLUID CAUSING REDUCED HYDRAULIC PRESSURE DURING APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES. REDUCED BRAKING EFFICIENCY CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH. DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP ASSEMBLY AS NECESSARY TO CORRECT THIS CONCERN. OUR QUICK TAKE REDUCED BRAKING PERFORMANCE MAY BE EXPERIENCED DUE TO A BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM ISSUE. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? TOYOTA WILL BEGIN NOTIFYING OWNERS OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES DURING JULY, 2013. I THEN CALLED TOYOTA ON JAN 17 AND THEY TOLD ME MUCH THE SAME AND OPENED A CASE NUMBER FOR THE ISSUE. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE COVERED ON NHTSA NUMBER 13V235000. I AM REQUESTING NHTSA ADVICE AS TO HOW TO PROCEED.
MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS HAS LEATHER SEATS AND THE PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT IS COMING ON. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA RECALL THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE LEATHER SEATS AND CALIBRATION.THE SENSOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS NOT COMMUNICATING WITH THE FRONT AIRBAG SO WHEN YOU SIT DOWN AND BUCKLE IN IT DOES NOT ACTIVATE THE FRONT AIRBAG. AT ABOUT 100,000 MILES ENGINE BEGAN USING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL, EXCEEDING 1 QUART PER 1000 MILES. TOYOTA KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM, AND EVEN HAS A TSB ON IT: TSB 0168-16, YET REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.
SEAT BELT DRIVER AND PASSENGER BUCKLES INSIDE LATCH WORN OUT-LOCKING PIN WORN OUT DUE TO MAKE OUT PLASTIC. THIS IS NOT A GOOD SAFETY SEAT BELT OEM. FROM MANUFACTURE TOYOTA. WE NEED TO RECALL THIS. ALL SEAT BELT BUCKLE LATCH, INSIDE MATERIALS TO LOCK THE PIN SHOULD MAKE OUT METAL, NOT PLASTIC... DO TO WEAR AND USED TO SNAP IN/OUT SO MANYTIME CAUSE THE BUCKLES WARNOUT. BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY. POWER BRAKES SEEMED TO FAIL AND A LARGE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE WAS REQUIRED TO STOP VEHICLE. TOYOTA OF FORT WORTH DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THAT THE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WE PERFORMED REPAIR (AT A COST OF ROUGHLY $2,000.) A FEW DAYS LATER ON A LONGER DRIVE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURNED BACK ON. WE RETURNED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WERE TOLD THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER/MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT AN ADDITIONAL COST OF $2,900. I NOTICE THAT TOYOTA HAD A RECALL FOR THIS PART ON OTHER 2010 PRIUS VEHICLES BUT MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 132,000.
MY 2010 PRIUS HAS HAD LIGHTS COME UP ON THE DASHBOARD. VSC, BRAKE, TRACTION & ABS. AFTER THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP RAN DIAGNOSTICS, IT CAME TO LIGHT THAT THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY WITH ACCUMULATOR WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR NEAR $5,000. IT WOULD SEEM THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT HAS RESULTED IN A RECALL FOR ONLY SOME OF THE 2010 PRIUS MODELS. MINE WAS NOT ONE OF THESE RECALLED. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST RECOGNITION THAT THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE SAME RECALL. TOYOTA IS A GOOD PRODUCT, AND I UNDERSTAND THAT RECALLS ARE JUST A PART OF LIFE. AS IT STANDS, MY REGENERATIVE BRAKING NO LONGER WORKS AND I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT I WILL LOSE ALL BRAKING EVENTUALLY.
WE WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE READING LIGHTS AND DASHBOARD FLASHED ON AND THEN OFF IN A MATTER OF ABOUT 5 SECONDS. THE DASH SHOWED A TRIANGLE INDICATOR LIGHT WITH AN EXCLAMATION POINT. THE DASH ALSO SEEMED TO RESET AND SHOWED THE DISPLAY AS IS THE CAR HAD JUST BEEN TURNED ON. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN A 4 HOUR PERIOD. ONCE ON THE HIGHWAY AND ONCE ON A BACK ROAD GOING ABOUT 40 MPH. THE CAR DID NOT STOP EITHER TIME, BUT IT IS STILL CONCERNING.
EXITING OFF FREEWAY AT S. MAIN IN WALNUT CREEK CALIFORNIA AT APPX 45MPH BOTH HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. COULD NOT BE TURNED ON. INTERIOR HEADLIGHT INDICATOR REMAINED ON BUT HEADLIGHTS REMAINED OFF. HIGHBEAMS WORKED.
I HAD BEEN DRIVING THE CAR AND HAD EXPERIENCED THE LOSS OF POWER DESCRIBED IN RECENT ARTICLES AS BEING AN INVERTER PROBLEM (THAT WAS THE SUBJECT OF A SOFTWARE UPDATE BY TOYOTA THAT MAY NOT HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE). AFTER EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE SEVERAL TIMES, MY AUTOBODY SHOP RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY AS THE DIAGNOSTIC CODES WERE NOT 100% CLEAR WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I HAVE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND NOT HAD THE ISSUE SINCE, BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD REPORT THIS JUST IN CASE THIS IS RELATED TO THE INVERTER ISSUE. THE ISSUE I HAD WAS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED -- DRIVING THE CAR, THEN SUDDENLY LOSING POWER AND PRACTICALLY UNABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE (I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT MAYBE 3 MPH WITH NO POWER STEERING, BARELY GOT OUT OF AN INTERSECTION IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC ONE TIME IT HAPPENED). THIS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS TIMES, ALWAYS WHILE MOVING, BOTH ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON CITY STREETS, STRAIGHT/TURNING. THE ONLY TIME IT DIDN'T SEEM TO HAPPEN WAS WHEN STATIONARY. VEHICLE SHAKES FOR ABOUT 30 TO 45 SECONDS AND PRODUCE A FOUL SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN IT HAPPENS OFF AND ON AND DEALER REFUSE TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
BRAKE ACTUATOR FAILURE. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER BRAKE FUNCTION WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY. CURRENTLY A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT LETTER COVERING THIS ISSUE, BUT ONLY UP TO 2009 MODEL PRIUS, I HAVE A 2010, NOT COVERED. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS IT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING WITH NO INDICATION OF TROUBLE BEFOREHAND.
I TOOK MY 2010 PRIUS IN FOR AIRBAG WORK & THEY ASKED HOW LONG I HAD BEEN DRIVING W/ MY BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ON. THEY HAD NOT BEEN ON PRIOR TO THEN. THEY HOOKED UP A COMPUTER & SHOWED ME THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN STARTED 31 TIMES SINCE THE WARNING WAS 1ST DETECTED. THEY SAID THERE WAS MOST LIKELY A LEAK IN THE BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM. THEY RESET THE WARNING, I DROVE FOR A DAY & IT CAME BACK ON AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AFTER ABOUT 10 STARTS. AFTER THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN, I NOTED AN IMMEDIATE & SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN BRAKING RESPONSIVENESS & VEHICLE CONTROL...STARTED PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THIS WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER FOR FULL DIAGNOSTIC & THEY SAID THAT THEY'RE WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE EXACT LEAK LOCATION, BUT THAT THEIR TECH ORDER SHOWS TO JUST REPLACE THE BOOSTER WHICH WILL COST ABOUT $3,300 O REPLACE.
