I WAS DRIVING ON THE HWY WITH 3 CHILDREN WHEN IT CUT OFF ON ME AND MY STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED . I TOOK IT TO FOUR MECHANICS I SAW THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS MY BATTERY AND NOW I KNOW THAT I HAVE A RECALL ON IT . I HAVE NOT DRIVEN MY CAR IN THREE MONTHS I'M ALSO STILL PAYING PAYMENTS ON IT . I ALSO WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY BREAK. I BOUGHT A NEW BRAKE BOOSTER AND PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT AND THE PROBLEM WAS STILL HUNGRY JUST
CAR STALLS WHILE DRIVING AND AND CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM NOTIFICATION LIGHTS UP ON THE DASH.
I WAS DRIVING A NORMAL COMMUTE WHEN AT RANDOM, THE ABS, BRAKE, AND TRACTION LIGHT WENT ON. THE BRAKES SEEMED TO DEPRESS QUICKER AND FELT 'OFF'. I WAS THANKFULLY CLOSE ENOUGH TO HOME. THE BRAKE LEVELS WERE FINE, HOWEVER AFTER TAKING THE CAR INTO THE DEALER, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE BREAK BOOSTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PART IN 2013, AS WELL AS A RECENT LEGAL SUIT SUGGESTING THAT TOYOTA DID NOT INCLUDE ALL VEHICLES THAT COULD BE AFFECTED BY THIS FAULTY PART (ISSUE TYPICALLY SHOWS UP AROUND 150K MILES). I HAVE A 2010 PRIUS ( INCLUDED IN THE SUIT) WITH JUST ABOVE 150K AND WAS NEVER NOTIFIED.
CAR SHAKES BADLY WHEN CHANGING FORM ELECTRIC TO GAS MOTOR, STARTED SMOKING IN THE BACK.
VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING THROUGH TOWN OR ON THE HIGHWAY, OUR VEHICLE WILL INTERMITTENTLY LOSE REGENERATIVE BRAKING. DURING THESE INSTANCES, THE BRAKE PEDAL SOFTENS AND GREATER EFFORT MUST BE EXERTED TO SLOW AND STOP THE CAR. SOMETIMES MINUTES... AT OTHER TIMES THE NEXT DAY AFTER THE CAR HAS SAT IN THE GARAGE, THE INDICATOR LIGHTS WILL ALL TURN OFF AND REGENERATIVE BRAKING RESUMES NORMALLY. THIS CREATES A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION AS IT CAN BE UNPREDICTABLE HOW MUCH PRESSURE TO APPLY TO THE BRAKES. THIS IS BEEN NOTICED AT SLOW SPEEDS, HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IN TURNS, OR TRAVELING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND DETERMINED TO HAVE A FAULTY BRAKE BOOSTER/ACTUATOR. THIS HAS CREATED AN UNSAFE AND UNRELIABLE SITUATION FOR TRANSPORTING MY FAMILY. WHAT IS QUITE CONCERNING IS THAT THIS OCCURRED WITH THE 2ND GENERATION PRIUS AND TOYOTA EXTENDED A HELPING HAND BY ISSUING A RECALL OR WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT. HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE WAS PRODUCED JUST MONTHS OUTSIDE OF THE 13V235000 RECALL WINDOW, YET EXPERIENCES THE SAME DANGEROUS DRIVING EXPERIENCE AS THOSE WHO WERE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. TOYOTA NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND THE SAFE THING BY RECALLING ADDITIONAL 3RD GENERATION PRIUS VEHICLES AND REPAIR OR REPLACE ALL FAULTY COMPONENTS BEFORE MORE CRASHES AND INJURIES OCCUR.
WHILE COMING HOME FROM WORK, MY WIFE NOTICED THE BRAKE, ABS, AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS OF THE VEHICLE CAME ON WHILE ON THE FREEWAY; MY WIFE HAD TO IMMEDIATELY GET OFF THE FREEWAY SINCE SHE NOTICED THAT SLOWING DOWN THE VEHICLE REQUIRED MUCH MORE EFFORT THAN USUAL. SHE NEARLY HAD AN ACCIDENT GOING DOWN THE FREEWAY RAMP. WE HAVE SCHEDULED TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR A FIX SINCE THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN TO US.
PREVIOUS RECALLS FOR A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V235000) AND A 2019 TOYOTA CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM (CSP ZJB) HAS ACKNOWLEDGED AN UNSAFE FAILURE MODE IN THE VEHICLE WHERE THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY FAILS DUE TO HIGH PRESSURE AND CAUSES THE AUTOMOBILE TO HAVE DIFFICULTY STOPPING. ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2020 WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT ROUGHLY 40 MPH, I EXPERIENCED INDICATION LIGHTS CONSISTENT WITH THE DESCRIPTIONS OUTLINED IN THE SAFETY RECALL AND TOYOTA SUPPORT PROGRAM. MY AUTOMOBILE ALSO HAD EXTREME DIFFICULTY COMING TO A STOP FROM 40 MPH AND I HAD TO UNSAFELY PULL TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AT SPEED TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH THE AUTOMOBILE IN FRONT OF ME. THE TOYOTA CSP ZJB DOES NOT COVER MY VEHICLE DUE TO TIME AND MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE, BUT I FEEL THIS SAFETY CRITICAL SYSTEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED PRIOR TO ME EXPERIENCING A FAILURE. TOYOTA SELECTIVELY ONLY REPLACED BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLIES OUTLINED IN THE RECALL AND THE CSP, IF THE AUTOMOBILE WAS EXPERIENCE ISSUES. TOYOTA STOPPED SHORT OF PREVENTATIVE SAFETY MEASURES OF REPLACING THIS ASSEMBLY PRIOR TO FAILURE, LEADING TO AN ALMOST COLLISION EVENT FOR ME. INDEPENDENT RESEARCH HAS IDENTIFIED THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR OTHER TOYOTA PRIUS ACCIDENTS LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE NHTSA BEFORE OTHERS EXPERIENCE A CRITICAL SAFETY FAILURE AT NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN.
I WAS COMFORTABLY DRIVING MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS DOWN A CITY STREET ON A THURSDAY AFTERNOON--ABOUT 25 MPH, LIGHT TRAFFIC--WHEN SUDDENLY--WITHOUT ANY TRIGGER OR WARNING--I LIGHTLY PRESSED DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN FOR A SPEED BUMP, AND THE BRAKES SHUDDERED, THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMED TO TWITCH, AND THE CAR STARTED MAKING A LOUD SHRIEKING AND GRINDING NOISE EVERY 3-5 SECONDS. FOR THE RECORD, MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS HAS BEEN REGULARLY SERVICED AT MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN 2018. THE LOUD SHRIEKING FELT LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM BELOW MY FEET AND FROM THE DRIVE SHAFT. I PULLED OVER--THE SHRIEKING AND GRINDING CONTINUED. I STOPPED THE CAR--THE SHRIEKING AND GRINDING CONTINUED. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR--THE SHRIEKING AND GRINDING SLOWED AFTER A FEW MINUTES. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON AGAIN, THE SHRIEKING AND GRINDING STARTED AND THE CAR WAS BEEPING IN A WAY I'D NEVER HEARD BEFORE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABOUT 4 BLOCKS FROM MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. I ASKED THEM IF I WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE FOUR BLOCKS OR IF I SHOULD GET THE CAR TOWED, AND THEY SAID I SHOULD BE SAFE TO DRIVE. I DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE CAR SHRIEKING AND BEEPING. THE BRAKES FELT SQUISHY AND UNRELIABLE, BUT THE DEALERSHIP HAS SAID I SHOULD BE FINE. I DROPPED OFF THE CAR. THE NEXT DAY, I GOT A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP SAYING THAT MY BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP AND BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY HAD TOTALLY FAILED. WHEN I ASKED THE TECHNICIAN IF THERE WAS SOMETHING I COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT THIS, HE SAID, 'NO, THIS IS JUST SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS TO THESE CARS.' THE BRAKE FAILURE OCCURRED ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 27, 2020. THE PHONE CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP OCCURRED ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 2020.
JUST PURCHASED THE CAR FROM A USED CAR DEALER 8/26/2020 AND WAS DRIVING DOWN A TWO LANE ROAD APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH COMING UP TO A STOP SIGN AND THE BRAKES WENT CRAZY WITH A CONTINUOUS BUZZING SOUND FROM THE BRAKES AND THE DASH ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS ALL CAME ON, WOULD NOT STOP CAUSING ME TO RUN THE STOP SIGN AND MAKE A TURN TO SLOW DOWN AND FINALLY COME TO A STOP. HAD THE TROUBLE CODE READ AND THE STORE READ THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE AS C1391 AND RESET SO I COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE SLOWLY HOME. I CHECKED FOR RECALLS ON THIS DTC 1391 BUT MY 2010 VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THEY NEED TO RECALL ALL OF THE 2010 PRIUS.
THE MORNING OF 8/24/20, I ATTEMPTED TO START MY CAR. A MESSAGE APPEARS, "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM". I FOUND THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL, IN 2018, THAT INVOLVES A SOFTWARE ISSUE. I HAD MY 2010 PRIUS TOWED TO KOLAR TOYOTA IN HERMANTOWN MINNESOTA, ON, I BELIEVE 8/26/20. THEY GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF $3200 TO REPLACE THE INVERTER. I HAD READ ABOUT THE INVERTER FAILURE BEING DIRECTLY LINKED TO SOFTWARE RECALL. THEY SAID THEY'D LOOK IN TO IT AND LATER REPLIED TO ME THAT, YES, THE INVERTER WOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND REPAIRED AT NO COST TO ME. THEY SAID THEY HAD ORDERED THE PART BUT MY CAR WOULD NOT BE READY UNTIL 8/31/20, AT THE EARLIEST. THEY SAID THE PART ARRIVED AND MY CAR WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. I CONTACTED THEM AND ASKED HOW THINGS WERE GOING. THE SERVICE MANAGER, TAYLOR, TOLD ME "FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER WE HAD TWO VEHICLES, OF THE SAME MAKE BUT DIFFERENT YEARS, IN FOR THE SAME REPAIR". HE WENT ON TO SAY, ACCORDING TO FEDEX TRACKING, THE PART HAD BEEN SHIPPED BUT TRACKING SHOWED NOTHING ELSE. I ASKED HIM IF HE WAS SURE THE TRACKING WAS FOR MY PART AND NOT THE PART FOR THE OTHER VEHICLE. HE TOLD ME HE HAD NO IDEA FOR WHICH PART THE TRACKING WAS FOR. HE THEN WENT ON TO TELL ME WE WOULD JUST HAVE TO "WAIT AND SEE IF THE PART SHOWS UP". HE WENT ON TO SAY "IT COULD TAKE DAYS OR WEEKS OR LONGER" BEFORE WE KNOW IF THE PART WAS COMING IN. A FEW DAYS LATER I CALLED TO SEE IF ANY PROGRESS HAD BEEN MADE AND WAS TOLD BY TAYLOR "THE PART HAS DISAPPEARED FROM TRACKING". I ASKED HIM IF THAT MEANT IT HAD BEEN DELIVERED AND WAS POSSIBLY THE PART FOR THE OTHER VEHICLE. HE BASICALLY REPLIED HE HAD NO CLUE. HE SAID WE WOULD JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE, ONCE AGAIN. I'VE BEEN CALLING EVERY TWO OR THREE DAYS SINCE THEN. SOMETIMES HE RETURNS MY CALLS. SOMETIMES HE DOESN'T. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT. MY VEHICLE IS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS.
I EXPERIENCED A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF BRAKE PERFORMANCE ACCOMPANIED BY MANY WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD, INCLUDING ONE THAT INDICATED A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM IN MY 2010 PRIUS. UPON IMMEDIATELY TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT TOYOTA EXTENDED A WARRANTY PROGRAM (ZJB & ZKK) FOR THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM ABS BRAKE ACTUATOR/MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE, BUT THAT I WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE WARRANTY COVERAGE BECAUSE THE DEADLINE HAD EXPIRED. MY CAR WAS UNDER 150,000 MILES, AS REQUIRED BY THE WARRANTY, AND DISPLAYED THE CORRECT FAILURE CODE AS REQUIRED BY THE WARRANTY. BUT, SINCE MY CAR DID NOT EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM OR DISPLAY AN ERROR CODE BEFORE THE END OF FEBRUARY 2020, I WAS TOLD THAT I WAS INELIGIBLE. I WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OVER $4100 FOR A REPAIR THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP, BUY A NEW CAR OR TAKE MY CHANCES AND DRIVE THE CAR 'AS IS' UNTIL I COULD FIND A CHEAPER SOLUTION. THE CHEAPER SOLUTION WOULD BE TO FIND ANOTHER ABS UNIT AT A SALVAGE YARD, AND HAVE A NON-TOYOTA CERTIFIED MECHANIC INSTALL IT. THERE IS NOTHING TO INDICATE A SALVAGE YARD UNIT WILL NOT SIMPLY FAIL AGAIN. I WAS WELL WITHIN THE 150,000 MILE LIMIT OF THE WARRANTY. SO, I AM TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR OF A PART THAT TOYOTA ADMITS IS FAULTY, AND WOULD HAVE REPLACED IF THE PROBLEM WOULD HAVE SURFACED A MERE SIX MONTHS EARLIER? I BELIEVE TOYOTA'S WARRANTY EXTENSION TO BE A MEAGER ATTEMPT AT APPEASING THE NHTSA AND OTHER AUTHORITIES SO THEY DO NOT HAVE TO LAUNCH A FULL SCALE RECALL. THEY ARE ENDANGERING THE LIVES OF HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO DEPEND ON THESE CARS ON A DAILY BASIS, AS THEY SHOULD NOT ASK THEIR CUSTOMERS TO EXPERIENCE A MAJOR BRAKE FAILURE BEFORE THE MANUFACTURER WILL AGREE TO FIX A KNOWN PROBLEM (OR NOT FIX IT, RATHER, AS THE TIME LIMIT HAS EXPIRED). TOYOTA IS PUTTING PROFITS AHEAD OF SAFETY, DURING A PANDEMIC. I THE NHTSA TO HELP US.
WHILE IN MOTION DRIVING AT 50 MPH, WARNING BEEP SIGNALED AND CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN. NOTIFICATION ON THE DASHBOARD READ "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM". VEHICLE EVENTUALLY SLOWED TO A STOP AND PUT ITSELF IN NEUTRAL AUTOMATICALLY. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO SAID IT IS THE INVERTER/CONVERTER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, SEVERAL UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER HEADQUARTER TOYOTA LOCATED AT 5895 NW 167TH ST, HIALEAH, FL 33015, (786) 235-9734, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE BRAKE BOOSTER TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT, CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,117.
THE RED BRAKES LIGHT, ABS LIGHT AND THE 'YELLOW SKIDDING CAR' ICON LIGHTS ALL COME ON TOGETHER, BUT INTERMITTENTLY. THE BRAKES OFTEN FEEL DIFFICULT TO PRESS DOWN UPON STARTING THE CAR. OFTER WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON, THE BRAKES FEEL SPONGY, OR AS THOUGH THEY MAY NOT STOP THE CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONCLUDED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER AND OTHER PARTS NEEDED REPLACING. I FOUND OUT THAT TOYOTA HAS HAD LOTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THESE BRAKE CYLINDERS.
BRAKES SYSTEM WARNING INDICATORS LIGHT UP. BRAKES FEEL WEAK, NEED TO STEP HARDER THAN NORMAL TO START SLOWING DOWN. I LOOKED THIS UP ON THE INTERNET AND THIS A KNOWN DEFECT THAT TOYOTA COVERS UNDER 'CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM ZJB' FOR A CERTAIN PERIOD ONLY. OF COURSE IT HAPPENS RIGHT AFTER THAT COVERAGE PERIOD. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AS IT AFFECTS A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V684000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM). THE DEALER WAS NOT CALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
I WAS AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN FOUR ANNUNCIATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH (MASTER WARNING, BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, ABS WARNING LIGHT, SLIP INDICATOR). I DECELERATED VEHICLE USING ENGINE POWER THEN APPLIED BRAKES. BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED APPROX. 3/4 TRAVEL (MUCH FURTHER THAN NORMAL) BEFORE BRAKING ACTION FELT. I STOPPED VEHICLE, RECYCLED POWER AND WARNING LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND BRAKE RESPONSIVENESS WAS UNCHANGED. UPON REACHING DESTINATION, I DOWNLOADED ERROR CODE (C1391) THEN CALLED LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER. INFORMED THAT ENHANCED WARRANTY LETTER ZJB ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER COVERAGE EXPIRED 6 WEEKS AGO. SERVICE CENTER DIRECTED ME TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE. TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE CONFIRMED THAT THE REPAIR COVERAGE HAD RECENTLY EXPIRED AND THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE WHATSOEVER. DUE TO THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC, MY DRIVING HAD BEEN SEVERELY CURTAILED SINCE MARCH. NOW JULY, A REQUIRED WORK TRIP LED TO THIS MALFUNCTION. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE CLASSIFIED AS A RECALL AND NOT A WARRANTY WITH AN EXPIRATION. A MAJOR, FLEE-WIDE BRAKING ISSUE SHOULD REQUIRE THE MANUFACTURER TO REPAIR.
PRIUS HAS LESS THAN 100K MILES AND HAS BEEN RUNNING PERFECTLY. TODAY WHILE DRIVING, THE BRAKE, ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY AND BEGAN ALARMING, WHILE SUDDENLY MY BRAKE LOCKED UP. THIS COULD CAUSE ACCIDENT AND INJURY IF IT OCCURRED UNDER THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A PREVIOUS BRAKE BOOSTER RECALL THAT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF AND WHICH HAS SINCE EXPIRED. THIS RECALL SHOULD BE REISSUED TO INCLUDE THE MANY 2010 PRIUSES AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM.
THE BRAKES WENT COMPLETELY OUT ON THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAD NO ABILITY AT ALL OTHER THAN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE CAUSE WAS THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PARKWAY TOYOTA LOCATED AT 50 SYLVAN AVE, ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ 07632, TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT CLOCKSPRING SPIRAL CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 88,680. *LN CONSUMER STATED PRIUS WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL.*JB
THE BRAKES FAILED ON THE VEHICLE AND I LOST ALL ABILITY TO STOP. SEVERAL DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE TRIGGERED ABOUT LOSS OF ABS AND BRAKING. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE ONLY THROUGH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE TOYOTA DEALER INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A FAILED BRAKE BOOSTER AND BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP ASSEMBLIES. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND TPYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL AND REPAIR THIS IISSUE.
TRACTION WARNING LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT ALL CAME ON AT SAME TIME WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS TOLD BY A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IT IS A MALFUNCTION WITH THE BRAKE BOOSTER WHICH IS ROUGHLY A $3000.00 REPAIR JOB AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM "ZJB" WAS CREATED BY TOYOTA NORTH AMERICA FOR THIS ISSUE IN RESPONSE TO THOUSANDS OF PRIUS MODELS EXPERIENCING THIS SEVERE MALFUNCTION, HOWEVER, MY 2010 PRIUS IS NO LONGER ELIGIBLE FOR COVERAGE FOR THIS REPAIR, EVEN THOUGH OTHER PRIUS MODELS ARE STILL ELIGIBLE FOR COMPLETE COVERAGE FOR THIS REPAIR. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND TOYOTA NORTH AMERICA NEEDS TO STAND BY COVERAGE FOR THIS GRAVE MALFUNCTION FOR ALL MODELS REGARDLESS OF YEAR OR MILEAGE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE IN FRONT SUDDENLY STOPPED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED HOWEVER IT FAILED TO ENGAGE CAUSING HIM TO REAR END THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HER HUSBAND WAS ALREADY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THEY COMPLETELY FAILED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER IN THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE DUE TO FEELING NAUSEOUS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AUTO BODY REPAIR FACILITY WHERE IT WAS AWAITING INSPECTION BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS A POSSIBLE TOTAL LOSS AAS THE RADIATOR AND ENGINE WAS DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SERVICED AT CLEARWATER TOYOTA (21799 US HWY 19 N, CLEARWATER, FL 33765 800-667-905) FOR A BRAKE ISSUE. THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE BRAKES UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY DUE TO AN INCORRECT CONSISTENT FAILURE CODE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE SENSOR WAS NOT ALERTING ENOUGH FOR THE REPAIRS TO BE COVERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
LOW BEAM STARTED GETTING DIM, BUT WERE BRAND NEW. THEY BOTH SUDDENLY FAILED ON THE HIGHWAY ALMOST CAUSING A CRASH. I REPLACED BULBS AND THEY WERE DIM AGAIN. I'VE GOT ABS ALERT IN THE BEGINNING OF MAY'20, HOWEVER, DUE TO COVID-19 STAY-HOME ORDER, I HAD TO STAY HOME AND WON'T ABLE TO BRING MY CAR UNTIL END OF MAY, .2020. THE SERVICE WRITER HAD A CLEAR IDEA OF WHAT WAS HAPPENING AS SHE SAID THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING A LOT TO PRIUS MODELS. SURE ENOUGH THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE C1391. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER/PUMP ASSEMBLY WHICH WOULD COST ME $3,000! UPON RESEARCH, MY CAR WAS COVERED UNDER A TSB TILL NOVEMBER 30, 2019, BUT ONLY IF THEY FAILED. THERE WAS NO RECALL ISSUED BY TMS TO PRO-ACTIVELY FIX A KNOWN BRAKE DEFICIENCY. MY CAR HAS 159,000 MILES, I HAVE NEVER HAD ANYONE SERVICE MY VEHICLE BESIDES TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS (EXCEPT TIRES). I CALLED TMS TO CORPORATE TO SEE IF I COULD BE OFFERED ASSISTANCE, BUT WAS FLAT OUT DENIED (I CAN PROVIDE THAT CASE NUMBER IF NEEDED).I FIND IT ODD THAT TOYOTA BEGAN PHASE2 ON 2011-2015 FOR SAME ISSUE THAT LASTS TILL APRIL 2021. I WAS NOTIFIED BY TOYOTA THAT MY VEHICLE HAD TWO RECALLS. ONE OF THESE WAS INVOLVING THE INVERTER PUMP. I VISITED A TOYOTA SERVICE DEALER FEBRUARY 15, 2020 TO HAVE THESE RECALLS TAKEN CARE OF. IN THE BEGINNING OF MAY 2020 I HAD DRIVEN JUST A FEW MILES FROM MY HOUSE WHEN ALL OF MY WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. ONE OF WHICH SAID "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM". I SLOWLY DROVE MY CAR TO THE NEAREST TOYOTA SERVICE A FEW DAYS LATER. I HAD NOT DRIVEN MY CAR OTHERWISE AFTER THE LIGHTS CAME ON. I RECEIVED AN UPDATE FROM TOYOTA SAYING MY INVERTER PUMP HAD FAILED AND THAT I NEEDED A POWER MODULE. THEY ESTIMATED A TOTAL CHARGE OF $3,500 WOULD COVER THE COSTS OF FIXING MY CAR. I REALIZED THAT I HAD BEEN AT A TOYOTA SERVICE JUST MONTHS BEFORE TO GET MY RECALL TAKEN CARE OF, FOR THIS EXACT INVERTER PUMP ISSUE. IT WAS CONFUSING TO ME THAT THE PART TOYOTA WAS SUPPOSED TO FIX, WAS ALL OF A SUDDEN BROKEN. DID THEY NOT TAKE CARE OF THIS IN FEBRUARY AS THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO? IT IS CONCERNING THAT THEY WOULD NOT ALREADY KNOW THAT THE INVERTER PUMP WAS A RECENT RECALL, AND THAT MY CAR HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. TOYOTA SHOULD BE AWARE OF THEIR OWN RECALLS AND WARRANTIES. I drive a 2010 Toyota Prius. Color of the car is Pearl White and its starting to peel off and bare metal of the car is getting exposed. Exposed metal will start rusting and start impacting the sturdiness of the car and eventually the safety. Toyota Manufacturer already has a recall in place for several Toyota models for same pearl white paint as shown in link below but Prius model is not part of it. I feel Prius model should also be included in this recall plan as it uses same Pearl white paint. I HAVE 'CHECK THE HYBRID SYSTEM 'WINDOW ON DASHBOARD. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC CHECKED AND TOLD ME THAT IT HAS PROBLEMS WITH INVERTER. TOYOTA HAS AND HAD MULTIPLE RECALLS BUT THEY ARE DOING SOME TYPE OF REPROGRAMMING WHICH ISN'T HELPFUL. IT IS EXPENSIVE AND COMMON PROBLEM.

PER TOYOTA THE PART REQUIRED ARE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY BRAKE AND BRAKE PUMP ASSEMBLY. COST TO REPAIR THESE PARTS PER TOYOTA WOULD BE ESTIMATED AT $2700. LOCAL DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL IT REGISTERED THE CODE AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE ADVISOR, SAID UNTIL THE CODE IS TRIGGERED AGAIN THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING. ALSO AFTER THE CODE WAS RESET THE BRAKES WORKED NORMAL AGAIN. THIS IN MY OPINION IS A SAFETY ISSUE! *TR
WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON WEST PACES ROAD IN ATLANTA, I TRIED TO BRAKE AND THE BARAKES DID NOT WORK . THEREFORE I WENT DIRECTLY INTO THE BACK OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I MUST PRECISE THAT THE BRAKES PAD WERE NEW, THE BRAKE LIQUID WAS OK. I WAS DRIVING AT 30 MILES AN HOUR.

BRAKES FAIL WHEN APPLIED STEADILY WHILE MOVING ON A WET OR BUMPY SURFACE CAUSING THE CAR TO CONTINUE FORWARD UNLESS THE PEDDLE IS PRESSED AGAIN FIRMLY. THIS APPEARS TO BE DUE TO THE KNOWN ABS PROBLEM IN THE 2010 PRIUS AND WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN CORRECTED BYWAY OF A SOFTWARE PATCH, WHICH I AM TOLD BY CHUCK PATTERSON CHICO TOYOTA HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE AND NO FURTHER EHLP COULD BE EXPECTED FROM TOYOTA.

BOTH THE LOW BEAM LIGHTS ARE OF A PROBLEM WITH RECALL WHICH TOYOTA EXPIRED THE RECALL ON 10/31/2019. I TRIED FEW TIMES LAST 3 YEARS TO GET IT FIXED WITH TOYOTA PORTLAND BUT THEY ALWAYS SAID 1) DON'T HAVE PARTS WILL CALL BACK ONCE AVAILABLE 2) IF YOU HAVE ISSUE WE WILL FIX IT OTHERWISE NOW NOW. NOW THAT BOTH WERE OFF AND I HAD TO USE HIGH BEAM, I TOOK TO TOYOTA BEAVERTON, OR. THEY SAID RECALL IS EXPIRED. WHY WILL RECALL EXPIRE IF IT IS SAFETY ISSUE? I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SUPPORT THEY SAID EXPIRED AND YOU HAVE PAY FO YOURSELF. THE COST IS NOT JUST BULBS BUT INTERNAL WIRING KIT WHICH STARTS FROM $600. I AM TAKING IT TO TOYOTA PORTLAND TODAY AS MY STUDENT DAUGHTER NEEDS THE LIGHTS TO DRIVE. WE ARE BOTH IN DIFFERENT STATES (CA AND OR).
