I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60 MPH WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHT, ABS LIGHT AND SLIDE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE BRAKE ACTUATOR. WHEN I RESEARCHED THIS,I FOUND THAT IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM TOTOYOTA AND THEY DID A VOLUNTARY RECALL. MY QUESTION IS WHY WOULD THERE BE A VOLUNTARY RECALL ON A PART THAT IS VITAL TO THE SAFETY OF THE CAR AND HAS A KNOWN DEFECT? BECAUSE IT WAS A VOLUNTARY RECALL THEY COULD ARBITRARILY SELECT A CUT OFF (150,000 MILES) INSTEAD OF ENSURING THE CAR WAS SAFE. THIS IS ONLY FOR 2010 PRIUS.
MY ABS SYSTEM STARTED SHOWING SIGNS OF PROBLEMS, AND I STARTED GETTING CODES FOR ALL SORTS OF BRAKE-RELATED ISSUES. MY BRAKES ENDED UP LOCKING UP AND NOT WORKING, AND MY BATTERY IN MY CAR DIED BECAUSE IT WAS THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS NOT ABLE TO RECHARGE MY BATTERY. EVEN THOUGH I STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH IT IN FEBRUARY, APPARENTLY TOYOTA SAID THAT BECAUSE I HAD A 2010 PRIUS, THAT SINCE NOVEMBER 31, 2019 HAD PASSED, THE RECALL/EXTENDED WARRANTY "RAN OUT" ON IT. EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT OBVIOUSLY WASN'T FIXED IN THE FIRST PLACE. SO WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET A DIAGNOSTICS RAN ON IT, THEY SAID THAT THEY NEEDED $3,200 TO FIX THE VEHICLE. THIS INCLUDED BOTH THE PURCHASING AND INSTALLATION OF A NEW BRAKE BOOSTER/MASTER CYLINDER ASSEM AND AN ABS PUMP MOTOR ASSEM. I OBVIOUSLY DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY FOR THE REPAIR AND THEY ARE TELLING ME TO GO KICK ROCKS. THIS IS NOT RIGHT AND BECAUSE OF THE BRAKE ISSUE NOT BEING FIXED IN THE FIRST PLACE, IT THEN ALLOWED MY BATTERY (WHICH RUNS AROUND $1,500) TO GET COMPLETELY DRAINED AND PREVENTED IT FROM BEING PROPERLY RECHARGED BY THE BRAKE SYSTEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING OUT OF A PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN ORANGE (MASTER WARNING) AND A P-SYMBOL WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO UMANSKY TOYOTA DEALER, (1357 RICHMOND RD, CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA 22911) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V684000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 51,788.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD EXTENDING THE BRAKING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A DEFECTIVE ABS CONTROL UNIT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V039000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.
MY BRAKES HAVE FAILED DUE TO A FAULTY BRAKE ACCUMULATOR AND BRAKE BOOSTER ON MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM WHEN ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A STOP AT A REDLIGHT. THE BRAKES FELT SPONGY AND UNRESPONSIVE. I NARROWLY MISSED COLLIDING WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BY SWERVING ONTO THE SHOULDER. TOYOTA PREVIOUSLY ACKNOWLEDGED THIS FAULTY PART BUT CLAIMS THAT I MISSED THE DEADLINE BY 35 DAYS TO GET IT FIXED. THE REPAIR COSTS ROUGHLY $4,000 WHICH TOYOTA HAS REFUSE DO TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR. I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX THIS AND BELIEVE THAT IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE FOR TOYOTA TO PUT THEIR PROFITS ABOVE THE SAFETY OF ITS' CUSTOMERS. I DO NO THIS BELIEVE THAT IT IS ETHICAL TO PUT A DEADLINE ON A SAFETY CONCERN OF THIS NATURE.
ABS BREAK PARKING LIGHT COME ON
AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOYED AT THE TIME OF ACCIDENT. DAMAGED/RIP APART FRONT BUMPER...CAR IS TOTAL LOSS AS PER INSURANCE ADJUSTER. OTHER COLLIDED HONDA CR-V HAD ALL ITS AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. NONE ON MY PRIUS. ACCIDENT HAPPENED AT MAJOR INTERSECTION ,WHEN GREEN LIGHT TURNED ON I PADDLE MY CAR , OTHER CAR HONDA CR-V CAME AT A SPEED TO MAKE LEFT TURNED AND HIT MY FRONT BUMPER.
First problem the light on my dashboard appeared. My braking is starting to not work properly. When i press the pedal it feels soft, and the brakes are not bitting well. Next thing my abs is not working, that i skid multiple times, and that cause me a few times to almost get into an accident. I had few fender bender issues, but no major damage collision. I end up paying for the repairs of my car, and have the receipt to prove it. Also before having all these issues, with the regenerative braking itself, if i happen to hit a pothole, even thou i’m pressing the brake pedals. It causes the car to accelerate. This only happens during traffic stops that i’m already pressing the brakes, but for some reason if i hit a pothole, like i mentioned above. That car accelerates, and thus cause me to almost hit the car in front of me. I was aware of this issue, so to compensate, i pressed the brake pedals harder whenever this incidents happen.
HAZARD LIGHTS FLASHING WHEN DRIVING FORWARD OR REVERSE DEPENDENT ON THE SPEED OF WHEEL ROTATION. I AM TOLD THAT MY SKID CONTROL ECU AS WELL AS THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND PUMP ARE BAD AND NEED REPLACING. I KEEP READING ABOUT THIS ISSUE, BUT TOYOTA SAYS IT IS NOT A BROAD ISSUE. IT IS NOT CLEAR WHAT SYSTEMS HAVE FAILED OR WHAT RISK THERE IS IN DRIVING.
WELL-MAINTAINED, DEALER-SERVICED VEHICLE SPUTTERED AND STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEED. WAS FORTUNATELY ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER, BUT VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. DEALERSHIP IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS A FUEL PUMP FAILURE, WHICH OCCURRED WITH NO WARNING.
WHEN THE VEHICLE PASSED 100K MILES, IT START CONSUMING OIL EXCESSIVELY. NOW IT NEEDS A QUART EVERY 200 MILES. I FOUND OUT FROM THE NET THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA HAS NOT RESOLVED
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE HYBRID SYSTEM FAILED AS PER NOTIFICATION ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CAR WAS OPERABLE BUT I WAS NOT ABLE TO DRIVE ABOVE 40 MILES PER HOUR. I WAS TOLD BY THE CERTIFIED TOYOTA DEALER THAT THE INVERTER FAILED AND THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE A REASON WHY IT FAILED. THERE WAS A PREVIOUS RECALL ON THE INVERTER IN 2014 TO FIX A SOFTWARE ISSUE WHICH WAS REPAIRED. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THIS RECENT INCIDENT WAS UNRELATED.
THE NIGHT BEFORE, EVERYTHING WAS WORKING FINE. THE NEXT DAY, I START MY CAR UP AT 4PM-5PM, FIRST TIME I STARTED MY CAR AND I HAVE NEW LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD. THE EBRAKE LIGHT, ABS LIGHT, BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT, AND TRACTION LIGHT. I RELEASE MY EBRAKE AND THE EBRAKE LIGHT IS STILL ON. CONCERED I CHECKED THE BREAK FLUID AND THE 12V BATTERY AND THOSE WERE FINE. DROVE THE CAR AROUND THE BLOCK TO SEE IF THERE WAS AN ISSUE OR IF THE LIGHTS WERE JUST ON. THE BRAKES WERE ALMOST COMPLETELY OUT THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY STOP WHEN I PUT MY FOOT TO THE FLOOR. I END UP TAKING THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WERE AFTER FOUR HOURS OF LOOKING AROUND, INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS THE BRAKE ACTUATOR AND THE BOOSTER PUMP. WHICH ALSO CAME WITH A BILL OF $3000 TO FIX IT.
AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY IN CAR CRASH: MY 2010 PRIUS WAS STUCK BY ANOTHER CAR WHO RAN A RED LIGHT, IN THE FRONT RIGHT (PASSENGER SIDE). THE CAR THAT STRUCK ME WAS TRAVELING APPROX 35MPH AND PUSHED MY CAR (ALSO TRAVELING APPROX. 35MPH) INTO THE PATH OF A WOODEN TELEPHONE POLE THAT SUSPENDED THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS OVER THE INTERSECTION. MY CAR TRAVELED ABOUT 20-30 FEET FURTHER AND STOPPED WHEN MY CAR HIT THE POLE HEAD ON. THE TELEPHONE POLE BROKE IN TWO IN THE IMPACT. NONE OF MY AIR-BAGS DEPLOYED. THE POLICE REPORT IS INCORRECT REGARDING THE AIRBAGS. I HAVE CONTACTED THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO AMEND THE REPORT. AS SEEN IN THE ACCOMPANYING PHOTOGRAPHS, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, CONTRARY TO THE POLICE REPORT.
FIRST THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM FAILED, FOLLOWED BY THE PASSENGER LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT DAYS LATER. AFTER REPLACING BOTH LIGHTS, THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM FAILED FOLLOWED BY THE PASSENGER'S LOW BEAM.
AS I WAS DRIVING 55-65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM ALERT CAME ON, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME BUT GOING UP HILL IT WOULD NOT GO FASTER THAN 35 MPH, AND 40-50 MPH ON FLAT GROUND. THIS HAPPENED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WHERE THE AVERAGE SPEED IS 55-65 MPH

CONTACTED TOYOTA BY EMAIL & PHONE & THEY REFUSE TO REIMBURSE ME $3,529.04 THAT I PAID TO HAVE MY CAR REPAINTED, INSISTING THAT MY TOYOTA PRIUS III IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE DEFECTIVE PAINT RECALL. MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS SLIDES WHILE BREAKING WHEN I DRIVE OVER A BUMP OR A WHOLE THE CAR SLIDES WHILE IN MOTION ON CITY STREETS OR HIGHWAYS. THESE OCCURRENCES HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT OR TURNING. THIS OCCURS ALL THE TIME WHEN THE ROADS ARE DRY AND IT IS WORST WHEN IT IS WET OUTSIDE, ICE, RAIN SLEET OR SNOW.
VEHICLE ACTUATOR BRAKE PUMP ASSEMBLY MAKING SQUEAKING BARKING NOISES WHEN THE BRAKE IS PRESSED DOWN AND HELD DOWN THE BRAKE PUMPS BACK AT ME. I TOOK TO TOYOTA THEY CHARGED ME FOR RUNNING CODES AND TWO BRAKE BLEEDS. AGKNOWLEDGED THAT IT'S THE BREAK ACTUATOR PUMP ASSEMBLY THAT IS A EXTENDED WARRENTY BUT WILL NOT FIX AND CHARGED ME BECAUSE THE WARNING LIGHT SYSTEM IS NOT COMING ON. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL NOT AN EXTENDED WARRENTY. MY BRAKES BARK AND PUSH BACK EVERY TIME I BRAKE. THIS DOESN'T SEEM SAFE TO DRIVE ON THE FREEWAY AND NOT GOOD IF AN ACCIDENT INCURS BECAUSE I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL MY BRAKES DIDN'T WORK. PLEASE MAKE A RECALL AND NOT JUST AN EXTENDED WARRENTY.
TOYOTA PRIUS LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY GO OUT DUE TO KNOWN ISSUE WITH WIRE HARNESS. NO RECALL ISSUED AND OWNER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR COST OF REPAIR
BRAKE/ABS AND STABILITY SYSTEM FAILURE. POSSIBLE ACTUATOR OR ACCUMULATOR. TOUOTA KNOWS THERE IS A FAULT AND HIDES BEHIND A SOFTWARE UPDATE. SYSTEM FAILS AND CAUSES UNRELIABLE BRAKING WITH INCREASED FORCE TO APPLY THE BRAKES. BRAKES APPLY SO HARD AT TIMES THE REAR PASSENGERS HEADS HIT THE REAR SEAT.
WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEEDS THAN 40 MPH, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND CHECK MY HYBRID SYSTEM LIGHT IS TURNED ON. WHEN IT TURNED ON, I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE, HOWEVER I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, AND RESTART MY CAR. I HAVE RECENTLY COME IN TO GET A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THE FACTORY RECALL RELATED TO THE ISSUE. HOWEVER MY INVERTER HAS BEEN DAMAGED AS WELL. ON THIS WEBSITE IT STATES IF MY INVERTER IS DAMAGED RELATED TO THE RECALL, IT WILL BE REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE. HOWEVER THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP CHARGED ME FOR DIAGNOSTIC, AND REQUESTED PAYMENT FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF MY INVERTER. I ALSO HAVE GIVEN TOYOTA A CALL AS WELL, THEY HAVE STATED THAT THE RECALL ONLY WILL CONSIST OF A SOFTWARE UPDATE. I WAS UNABLE TO GET ANYONE FROM TOYOTA TO HELP ME WITH MY REPAIR OF MY INVERTER THUS FAR.
I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN, CREEPING INTO A PARKING SPACE, IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE CAR, THE CAR ACCELERATED INSTEAD. I THEN SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND THE CAR ACCELERATED AGAIN, CAUSING ME TO GO OVER THE CURB, OVER THE SIDEWALK AND KNOCK DOWN A FENCE AND SHED. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, SOME KIND BYSTANDERS TOOK THE DEBRIS OFF THE CAR SO THAT I COULD GET OUT. I THEN CALLED POLICE AND THE PROPERTY OWNER, AS WELL AS MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I AM HONESTLY SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN, AS I DO NOT WANT THIS UNINTENDED ACCELERATION TO HAPPEN AGAIN. I WILL BE NOTIFYING TOYOTA, AND THE REPAIR SHOP WORKING ON MY CAR HAS ALREADY BEEN INFORMED.
EXSESIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. NEED TO ADD OIL ( 2 QUARTS OR MORE) BETWEEN OIL CHANGES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE FRONT WHEELS SHOOK AND THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANTHER VEHICLE, WHICH THEN CAUSED THE OTHER VEHICLE TO CRASH HEAD ON INTO A MEDIAN. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED TOTALED AND WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME, AWAITING AN INVESTIGATION. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V684000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
WHILE DRIVING BACK FROM RUNNING ERRANDS MY CAR'S LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD STARTED TO COME ON AND NOISES STARTED TO START HAPPENING. I WAS LUCKY I WAS ONLY A FEW STREETS AWAY FROM MY HOUSE SO I DECIDED TO DRIVE BACK HOME. THE BREAK WAS REALLY HARD TO PRESS. THE BRAKE FELT LIKE IT WAS A ROCK AND HARD TO PRESS. I DROVE WITH MY HAZARDS ON UNSURE OF WHAT COULD HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING. THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG AND THE CAR STARTED TO BEEP AND I WAS WORRIED THE CAR MIGHT FAIL TO BRAKE SO I STARTED TO DRIVE VERY SLOWLY. THE BRAKES WERE SO HARD TO PRESS. I TOOK MY CAR TO TOYOTA THE NEXT DAY AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A DEFECT WITH MY BRAKES. THEY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW DAYS AND RETURNED TO ME SAYING IT WAS FIXED. NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS WAS A VERY SCARY SITUATION TO BE IN. I DRIVE A LOT. IF I HAD BEEN FURTHER AWAY FROM MY HOME THIS WOULD HAVE PUT ME IN A VERY DANGEROUS POSITION. I COULD'VE BEEN STRANDED OR DROVE ON THE FREEWAY IN THIS CONDITION UNSURE OF WHAT WAS HAPPENING. MY CAR COULD'VE STOPPED BRAKING, I COULD'VE GOTTEN INTO A BIG ACCIDENT AND INJURED OTHER DRIVERS AROUND ME. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED NOW AND SAVE OTHER DRIVERS! IN CALIFORNIA PEOPLE DRIVE UP TO 80 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY-IF WE ARE BEHIND A CAR AND THE BRAKES MALFUNCTION YOU CAN IMAGINE WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE DRIVER AND ANYONE INVOLVED! WHEN I HEARD TOYOTA WAS NOT RECALLING THIS ON ALL PRIUS'S THAT MIGHT BE AFFECTED IT REALLY SCARED ME. THIS IS UNSAFE.
NOTICED BRAKES PULSING AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS. LOOKED UP SYMPTOMS ONLINE AND DETERMINED IT WAS FROM BRAKE BOOSTER LEAK ISSUE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP BUT BECAUSE NO CODES SHOWED UP ON DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE, WAS TOLD NOTHING WRONG. (THAT WAS AT 147,000 MILES.) FAST FORWARD 6 MONTHS AND WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND BRAKING BECAME VERY SPONGY. TOOK BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND NEEDS BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP AND BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY REPLACED. NOW HAS 155,000 MILES AND IS 5000 MILES PAST WARRANTY. LONG STORY SHORT IS THAT I WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE AN ISSUE LONG BEFORE THEIR COMPUTER COULD DETECT ANYTHING. BUT BECAUSE I'M NOW PAST WARRANTY, I HAVE TO PAY $2600 FOR REPAIR.
AS I WAS DRIVING ON A ROAD, ABOUT 25 MPH, WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE CAR JUST DECREASED IT'S SPEED TO A STOP AS I CONTINUALLY PUSHED MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL.
LOUD RATTLE, SHAKING IN MOTOR AREA. WAS FOUND TO BE A HEAD GASKET LEAK. USING A LOT OF ANTIFREEZE AND WHITE SMOKE OUT THE TAIL PIPE. WHILE IDLE OR IN MOTION AND WHILE GAS ENGINE IS RUNNING. STARTED INTERMITTENTLY AT FIRST AND VERY SHORT, EG. FOR A SECOND OR TWO, THEN GOT LOUDER, MORE OFTEN AND LASTED LONGER. THIS CAR HAS 230,000 MILES. THIS SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING ON MY 2011 PRIUS WITH 128,000 MILES. I RESEARCHED THIS AND IT IS A COMMON PLACE WITH GEN 3 PRIUS CARS. I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE EITHER ONE OF MY PRIUS CARS SAFELY.
I TOOK MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS TO DEALER SHIP FOR A SOFTWARE UPDATE, AND NOW THE HYBRID SYSTEM KEPT HAVING PROBLEM, ONCE I DISCONNECT THE 12V BATTERY, THE CAR WILL DO FINE FOR LIKE A WEEK, THEN THE HYBRID SYSTEM WILL SHUT DOWN, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN BEFORE THE SOFTWARE UPDATE.

MOMENTS LATER, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED, BUT THE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. FRED ANDERSON TOYOTA (9101 GLENWOOD AVE, RALIEGH, NC) WAS NOTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 207,000.
'TAKATA RECALL' AS I WAS MERGING ON THE HIGHWAY THIS MORNING I GOT THE BIG WARNING LIGHT ON MY DASH AND THE ENGINE LIGHT ALONG WITH A MESSAGE ON MY SCREEN SAYING CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM. EVER SINCE MY HYBRID SYSTEM SHUT DOWN AND NEVER CAME BACK ON.
A number of things have failed on this car. 1. The hybrid battery pack system shut down and warned that I needed to see a mechanic. My mechanic diagnosed that the hybrid invert was defective and causing the battery pack to fail. 2. When braking at both low and high speeds, the car increasingly struggles to come to a stop. When applying foot pressure, you can hear the pump winding - this occurs while at rest as well as when trying to slow the car down. There are times when applying the brake that the floor pedal will lock and cause the car to skid while barely reducing the speed of the car. I have had multiple near accident incidences as a result and put myself and others at risk. 3. The car ferociously vibrates every morning - discovered that the head gasket has failed prematurely and due to the car overcompensating for the failing hybrid battery that is being impacted by the failing hybrid inverter. All problems have been reproduced and diagnosed at independent service centers. Multiple codes, warning lights and messages have alerted me to engine and battery issues - all of which appeared after the various issues and failures.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR AROUND MID YEAR OF 2019, AND WHEN I FIRST USED IT IN THE HIGHWAY COMING BACK FROM WORK, THERE WAS TRAFFIC AND I NOTICED THE BREAKS NOT RESPONDING WELL. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT IT, IN THE STREETS AS WELL. THERE'S ALSO A ORANGE LIGHT SAYING THAT IT NEEDS MAINTENANCE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR ABOUT 3 TIMES TO THE PERSON THAT SOLD IT TO ME BECAUSE HE HAS A CAR SHOP AND IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING.
CAR WORKED FLAWLESSLY AND WE MAINTAINED IT REGULARLY. TOOK IT IN TO ADDRESS RECALL OF JOV UPDATE PWR MGMT ECU AT DEALER. DEALER COMPLETED RECALL WORK. 2 DAYS LATER ENGINE LITE CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM AND THE ! ON AND TRIANGLE ON. THE CAR CONTINUED RUN BUT NOW WAS STUDDERING WHEN WAS NOT BEFORE THE RECALL WORK. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND HE SAID WE NEED A NEW HYBRID BATTERY. WE BELIEVE THE SOFTWARE UPDATE THEY DID CREATED A THIS ISSUE. DEALER ACTING IGNORANT AND SAYING IT NEEDS NEW BATTERY BECAUSE OF NUMBER OF MILES ON CAR. ASKED FOR DIAGNOSTIC PRINT OUT FROM WHEN THEY DID RECALL WORK TO THEY NEW DIAGNOSIS AND THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE. WE BELIEVE THE RECALL UPDATE CREATED A TECHNICAL PROBLEM WITH OUR HYBRID BATTERY. WE ALSO BELIEVE THAT DEALER NOT BEING HONEST REGARDING ISSUES WITH THIS RECALL UPDATE AND IS USING IT AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO REDUCE LIABILITY FOR TOYOTA ON FAILED RECALL WORK AND TO USE IT AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BRING IN LARGE TICKET SALES REPAIR IE THEY QUOTED US A NEW HYBRID BATTERY FOR 5,500.
ALL BRAKE, ABS, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON. CHECKED ABS CODE AND RECEIVED C1391. MECHANIC CAN HERE THE ACTUATOR CONTINUOUSLY RUNNING AND BELIEVE THE PUMP/ACTUATOR IS BAD. I HAVE SEEN THIS RECALLED ON 2010 MADE BETWEEN MARCH 2009, AND OCTOBER 2009. MY MANUFACTURE DATE IS SEPT 2010. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON. THE CAR BECAME HARD TO STOP AND REGENERATIVE BRAKING IS NO LONGER WORKING.

THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FROM THE CRASH SITE TO THE RESIDENCE. SUNNYSIDE TOYOTA LOCATED AT 27000 LORAIN RD, NORTH OLMSTED, OH 44070, (440) 777-9911, WAS CONTACTED AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED WHICH WAS STILL PENDING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
EVEN THOUGH THE BREAK PADS ARE NEW, THE BREAKS ARE NOT WORKING AT ALL WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THEY DO NOT FEEL TIGHT. THE VEHICLE LOOSES STABILITY IN CURVES AT A LOW SPEED ( SLIPS) AND KEEPS MOVING EVEN WHEN BREAKS ARE PUSHED TO THE END. ALL THE BREAK LIGHTS ARE ON. THERE ARE SEVERAL RECALLS REGARDING THE BREAKS OF THIS VEHICLE YEAR 2010 AND NONE APPLIES TO THE VEHICLE VIN NUMBER. IT IT NOT RELIABLE AT ALL IN THE HIGHWAY. IN ORDER TO BRAKE THE SPEED MUST BE VERY SLOW AND THE DISTANCE MUST BE WAY MORE THAN NORMAL
EVEN THOUGH THE BREAKS SEEM FINE, THE ELECTRIC BREAK SYSTEM DOES WORK AT ALL. ALL LIGHTS ARE ON AND THE BREAKS PEDALS FEELS LOOSE. WHEN I PUSH THE BREAKS THE VEHICLE KEEPS GOING. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT IS ON AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER LIGHTS REGARDING TO BREAKS AND STABILITY MECHANISMS.

APPROX 120,000 MILES. WHEN THE BRAKE NOISE AND ALL LIGHTS APPEAR ON DASH VERY LOW BRAKING ABILITY. HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING OR STARING CAR. ON 6/6 LIGHTS AND BRAKING FAILED AND DO NOT TURN OFF. TOOK TO SERVICE AT TOYOTA DEALER & TECH SAYS $3000 PLUS FOR REPAIRS. POSSIBLE LEAK IN ABS PUMP??
STARTED CAR ONE MORNING, IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THE 'ABS', 'BRAKE', AND 'TRACTION CONTROL' WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON SIMULTANEOUSLY. TOOK THE CAR FOR A DRIVE AROUND THE CORNER, AND IMMEDIATELY NOTICED BRAKES WERE VERY SOFT AND UNRESPONSIVE. PEDAL LITERALLY SINKS TO THE FLOOR WHILE AIR CAN BE HEARD LEAKING FROM THE SYSTEM/PEDAL. . ALSO NOTICED THE BRAKES NO LONGER RECHARGE THE SYSTEM, AND THEY ALSO FEEL JERKY AT TIMES. I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR, AND NOTICED FLUID WAS HALFWAY BETWEEN MAX AND LOW. PERHAPS A LEAK SOMEWHERE IN THE SYSTEM? I CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND WILL HAVE THEM TAKE A LOOK AT IT ON 05/10/2019 ACCORDING TO SOME RESEARCH I CONDUCTED, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE IN THE 2010/2011 MODELS. SUPPOSEDLY, OVER TIME, VIBRATIONS CAN ACTUALLY CRACK THE LINE(S) FEEDING INTO THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, AND THUS RESULTING IN THIS FAULT. TOYOTA SHOULD DEFINITELY BE MORE COMMUNICATIVE ABOUT THESE ISSUES. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR 4 YEARS, AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE. CURRENTLY NOT DRIVING THE CAR AT THE MOMENT, AS I DO NOT FEEL SAFE
ABS ACTUATOR HAS A LEAK. IT IS A $1200 REPAIR. MY MECHANIC, WHO ONLY WORKS ON HYBRIDS, SAID THAT THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING A LOT WITH MY YEAR PRIUS (AS WELL AS OTHER YEARS), BUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ONLY COVERS 2011 AND LATER.
DRIVING WITH CRUSE CONTROL SET AT 72 MPH, DRIVING ON 4 LANE INTERSTATE. MASTER WARNING LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH THE FOLLOWING WARNINGS "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" & "CHECK PCS SYSTEM", ALL DASH LIGHTS LIT UP. ENGINE STALLED UNEXPECTEDLY AND RESULTED IN NO POWER WHEN PUSHING GAS PEDAL. STEERING WAS NOT COMPROMISED. WAS ABLE TO CROSS 3 LANES ON THE INTERSTATE TO THE SHOULDER WITH NO POWER AND THE CAR DECELERATING RAPIDLY, AGAIN WITH NO PRIOR WARNING OF ANY ISSUES. TURNED CAR OFF AND RESTARTED, WAS ABLE TO DRIVE APPROX. 25 FEET BEFORE THE ENGINE SHUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY AGAIN LEADING TO A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. BREAKING AND STEERING WERE AFFECTED AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR.
THE ABS/BRAKE LIGHT/ SLIP INIDICATOR WARNING TRIANGLE ON & OFF. MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS II HAS 153K MILE. THIS HAS GONE ON/OFF FOR A FEW WEEKS NOW. THE BRAKE SEEMS TO LOOSE THE HYDRAULIC POWER BRAKE. I FEEL LIKE THE BRAKES HAVE FAILED A FEW TIMES WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEEDS. I HAVE TO PUMP BRAKE AND VEHICLE BEGINS TO BRAKE ON 2ND PUMP. I'VE HAD TO TRIPLE MY STOPPING DISTANCE AS TO NOT REAR ANYONE. I WENT TO AUTOSHOP, THEY SAID IT'S THE BRAKE ACTUATOR/SENSORS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED AND IT'S EXPENSIVE $2-3K. THEY SAID IT NEED TO BE FIX SOON BECAUSE BRAKE MIGHT FAIL AT ANY TIME. I CALLED CAMELBACK TOYOTA, PHOENIX, AZ, ED IN SERVICE DEPT SAID THERE IS NO SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW IT HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM WITH PRIUSES . I CHECKED VEHICLE REPAIR HISTORY LOOKS LIKE ABS PROGRAMMING WAS FLASHED BACK IN 2/11/2010, WHEN VEHICLE WAS STILL ON THE MANUFACTURER, 3 MILES. I HAVE NOT FIXED YET. PLEASE RESEARCH THIS ISSUE FURTHER FOR SAFETY REASONS. I DO NOT WANT TO KILL ANYONE WHEN BRAKES WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL.
I PURCHASED A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS, WITHIN A MONTH I HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP SENSOR (AFTER IT WENT OUT ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR DIED WHILE DRIVING IT). THEN 6 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AGAIN AND THE HOOD RIPPED UP COMPLETELY SHATTERING THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING. I LATER LEARNED BOTH SAFETY'S ON THE HOOD LATCH WERE BROKEN AND MISSING PARTS. IT ALSO HAS AN OIL LEAK THAT WILL COST ME $2,200 TO REPAIR WHEN I ONLY PAID $6,000 FOR THE CAR ON TOP OF MANY OTHER MINOR ISSUES.
JUST HAD RECALL WORK COMPLETED INCLUDING SOFTWARE UPDATE. CAR NOW EXHIBITS NEW LIMP MODE BEHAVIOR WITH LOW FUEL. THIS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE THE SOFTWARE UPDATE. TRIP METER INDICATED MORE THAN 50 MILES REMAINED WITH CURRENT FUEL SUPPLY. FUEL LEVEL WAS AS TWO BARS AND LOW FUEL LIGHT HAD NOT YET COME ON. LIMP MODE OCCURRED AT SPEED ON 4 LANE FREEWAY. VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND DASH MESSAGING INDICATED HYBRID SYSTEM FAILURE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED ONLY TO REALIZE IT WAS ALL HAPPENING DUE TO A LOW FUEL LEVEL. I BELIEVE THE SAFETY RECALL SOFTWARE UPDATE HAS INTRODUCED AGREATER RISK TO MY ROADSIDE SAFETY AND HAS MADE THE VEHICLE LESS TRUSTWORTHY AND HAS REDUCED VALUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
