EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION - 1QT EVERY 2,000 MILES.
FOUND OUT THE VIOLENT ENGINE SHAKING AND THE MYSTERY LOSS OF COOLANT WITHOUT ANY NOTICEABLE LEAKS IS DUE TO A LEAKING HEAD GASKET THAT HIS COMMON TO MANY OWNERS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE A TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH. DUE TO THE SWITCH NOT BEING IN THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING UP AN INCLINE DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INHERENT TO THE MODEL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 77,000. ON START UP IN COLD WEATHER, <40*, AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF NOT BEING USED, THE ENGINE RATTLES LIKE THERE'S A LOOSE ENGINE MOUNT. IT LASTS SEVERAL SECONDS, THEN STOPS. AFTER THE ENGINE WARMS UP IT'S FINE. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND I HAD TSB-0204-11 INSTALLED AT 38,000 MILES (12/18/13) AND HAD NO PROBLEM THE PROBLEM REOCCURRED YESTERDAY, 1/3/16, 76,000 MI, AND I'LL CHECK WITH MY MECHANIC FOR CODES.
WHILE DRIVING AND BRAKING ON A BUMPY ROAD SURFACE, THE BRAKES WILL INITIALLY WORK, QUIT WORKING MOMENTARILY, THEN REENGAGE. THIS HAPPENS REGULARLY. I JUST TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAY THE BRAKES ARE FINE AND THERE IS NO PROBLEM. THERE WAS A TOYOTA RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ON 2010 MODELS. I'M AFRAID THIS ISSUE WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. HOW CAN I GET TOYOTA TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM?
THE SPIRAL CABLE IS DEFECTIVE, HORN STOPPED WORKING TWO WEEKS AGO, CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING LAST WEEK. THERE HAS BEEN ALOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CABLE. TOYOTA HAS HAD RECALLS FOR THE TACOMA AND YARIS THAT USE THE SAME PART NUMBER. THE AIR BAG USES THE SAME CABLE. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE. THE COST TO REPLACE THIS CABLE IS $890.00. SOMEONE NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE. WHAT IS THE CRITERIA FOR A RECALL, SOMEONE DIEING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO DECELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE PUMPED IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
I AM 5'4" TALL AND LIKE THE SEAT IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION. THERE IS NO WAY I CAN ADJUST THE HEADREST SO THAT IT ALLOWS ME TO SIT UPRIGHT AND NOT HAVE MY HEAD FORCED FORWARD AND DOWN BY THE HEADREST. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A NEW "SAFETY" REGULATION. THIS REGULATION NEEDS TO BE CHANGED SO PEOPLE OF MY HEIGHT CAN DRIVE THE CAR WITHOUT THEIR HEADS BEING FORCED DOWN. I USE A FOAM CUSHION BETWEEN MY BACK AND THE SEAT TO COMPENSATE FOR THIS TERRIBLE DESIGN FLAW. I WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO BUY A CAR THAT IS BOTH SAFE AND FITS ME. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH MY HEAD FORCED DOWN. BY THE WAY, YOUR NEXT BOX INDICATES BAD WEBSITE DESIGN. I WANT TO PUT IN N/A OR ALWAYS SINCE THERE IS NO ONE TIME FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT THE STUPID WEB DESIGNER DOESN'T THINK THAT SHOULD BE AN OPTION.
I WAS PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE, (WHILE ON A VILLAGE STREET) BECAUSE MY HEADLIGHT BULB WAS BURNED OUT. (AGAIN!) I HAVE HAD 4 HEADLIGHT BULBS REPLACED ON THE 2011 PRIUS AND IT IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD! TOYOTA HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE WIRING HARNESS, THAT SHORTS OUT THE BULBS PREMATURELY, BUT NO RECALL. PLEASE RECALL THE PRIUS FOR THE WIRING HARNESS, SO I CAN STOP GETTING PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE! 09\15 THANK YOU! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK, THE DRIVER DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO A POLE. DURING THE CRASH, THE FRONT END SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000.
I OWN A 2011 TOYOTA PRIUS WHICH I PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER OF THAT YEAR FROM ARLINGTON TOYOTA IN ARLINGTON, VA. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS THREE TIMES. AS OF NOV 2015, THE CAR HAD 29,105 MILES ON IT WHICH INDICATES I DO NOT PUT A LOT OF MILES ON THE CAR. ON ALL THREE OCCASIONS, BOTH LOW BEAMS WERE INOPERABLE WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT ON THE ROAD DRIVING. ON EVERY OCCASION, THE DEALER TOLD ME THE BULBS WERE BURNED OUT. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS THE NIGHT OF SEPT 10, 2015. THIS TIME THE DEALER TOLD ME TOYOTA HAS A WIRING SOLUTION THAT WOULD EXTEND THE LIFE OF THE HEADLIGHTS, BUT THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THE "SOLUTION" WOULD BE EXPENSIVE. I TOLD THEM THAT STATEMENT TELLS ME THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE WIRING OR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, AND THE FIX SHOULD BE PAID FOR BY TOYOTA UNDER A RECALL NOTICE. I HAVE NOTED THAT PRIUS OWNERS HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING OF THIS SAME ISSUE SINCE 2007 AND A RECALL HAD HAPPENED IN 2011 FOR EARLIER YEAR CARS. THE PROBLEM REMAINS, AND THERE IS DEFECT IN THE CAR'S WIRING OR PERFORMANCE. GIVEN THE CURRENT VW DIESEL FIASCO, I HOPE THIS ISSUE CAN BE ADDRESSED BY THE NHSTA AND FORCE TOYOTA TO PROVIDE SAFE LIGHTING TO US PRIUS OWNERS.
I WAS MOVING FORWARD IN A TURN LANE ON A CITY STREET PREPARING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. A VEHICLE CUT IN FRONT OF MY CAR AND IT WAS NECESSARY TO MAKE A QUICK STOP TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. IMMEDIATELY RED WARNING LIGHTS LIT UP INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THE REPAIR STATEMENT FROM THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WITH MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR REQUIRED OVER TWO WEEKS TO COMPLETE AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THE PROCEDURE IN THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR REPAIRING THE PROBLEM WAS INCORRECT.
THERE ARE 3 ISSUES I AM HAVING WITH THIS PRIUS. THE BRAKES ARE THE FIRST PROBLEM. AS OTHERS HAVE STATED, I TOO HAVE THE SAME LURCHING FORWARD WHEN BRAKING OVER BUMBY OR ROUGH ROADS. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS. SECOND, THE SUSPENSION IS CREAKING AND CRUNCHING WHEN MAKING TURNS AT LOW SPEEDS UNDER 20MPH. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE WHEELS ARE TURNED ALL THE WAY RIGHT AND ALL THE WAY LEFT. THIS CRUNCHING NOISE HAPPENS WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, MAKING U-TURNS, COMING TO A STOP ON AN INCLINE, AND BRAKING OVER SPEED BUMPS. I'VE HAD THE DEALER LOOK AT THIS FOR THE LAST YEAR WHEN I COME IN FOR SERVICE AND ONE TECH SAYS THEY CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT, ANOTHER TECH SAYS HE HEARS IT BUT CAN'T FIND THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM, THE SERVICE MGR. ALSO WENT ON A DRIVE WITH ME AND REPRODUCES THE NOISE CONCERN BUT THE TECHS COULDN'T FIND IT. MOST WERE SUGGESTING NEW FRONT SUSPENSION COMPONENTS-STRUTS, TOWERS, LINKS, ETC. I REPLACED THE TWO FRONT STRUTS AND ALL OF THE EXTRA COMPONENTS-THE NOISE CONCERN IS STILL THERE. I AM VERY UPSET ABOUT THIS. THIRD ISSUE IS THE ICE-MOTOR. WHEN STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD AND MAKES A CREAKING SOUND. IT'S APPEARS THAT SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT. THE ENGINE SEEMS LIKE IT IS LOOSE. THE ENGINE ALSO MAKES RATTLING SOUND WHEN CRUISING LIGHTLY AT 15-25 MPH WITH THE ACCELERATOR PRESSED SLIGHTLY. THE SOUND IS COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE, UNDER THE DASHBOARD-GLOVE COMPARTMENT AREA. THIS IS A RATTLE SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I'VE HAD THIS LOOKED AT AS WELL AND THE DEALER STATES THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE IT. I HAVE RECORDED ALL SOUNDS RELATED TO THESE CONCERNS AND AM TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER THIS MONTH.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. RECENTLY I NOTICE OIL PRESSURE LOW LIGHT LIGHTS FREQUENTLY. IT USED THE OIL WAS CHANGED EVERY TIME THE MAINTENANCE LIGHT COME UP. ABOUT EVERY 5000 MILES. NOW THE LOW OIL PRESSURE COMES ALMOST EVERY 1000 MILES. THE CAR ONLY HAS 89K MILES.
LEFT CAR RUNNING THE NIGHT BEFORE. DIDN'T KNOW IT. LOCKED CAR THAT EVENING. BATTERY DEAD NEXT DAY. SHOULDN'T THERE HAVE BEEN A WARNING WHEN I LOCKED CAR, THAT CAR WAS NOT OFF?
TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. TOOK IT TO TOYOTA WHO SAID CODES INDICATED FAILURE OF MASTER CYLINDER. COST OF REPAIR $3,400. I THINK THEY HAVE A DEFECTIVE PART PROBLEM.
I NOTICED AROUND 90,000 MILES THAT MY CAR BEGAN CONSUMING OIL AT ANY ACCELERATED RATE, SO I DIDN'T THINK TOO MUCH ABOUT IT. THEN I NOTICED THAT I MY OIL GAUGE WAS TURNING ON EVERY 1,000-1,200 MILES, MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL. I WENT ONLINE TO TOYOTA PRIUS FORUMS AND STARTED DOING MORE RESEARCH AND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2010-2011 PRIUS'S. BOB SMITH TOYOTA, IN LA CRESCENTA, WHO SOLD ME THE CAR, RAN AN OIL CONSUMPTION STUDY AND CONCLUDED THAT THERE IS A MAJOR ISSUE AND THEY CONTACTED TOYOTA DID NOT WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS AN PROBLEM FOR THE SAKE THAT THIS COULD RESULT IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT BASED ON NEGLIGENCE.
REQUEST HELP WITH 2011 TOYOTA PRIUS OIL CONSUMPTION, QUALITY, SAFETY, & AIR POLLUTION ISSUES: I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW. JUST AFTER 100,000 MILES I NOTICED IT WAS USING OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. IT HAS GOTTEN WAY WORSE TO NOW AT 145,000 MILES IT USED 3 QTS IN 2000 MILES. IT DOES NOT WARN YOU THAT THE OIL LEVEL IS LOW UNTIL YOU ARE 3.5 QTS LOW & A MESSAGES SAYS YOU HAVE LOW OIL PRESSURE. THIS IS UNSAFE IN THAT THE CAR COULD GO DRY ON OIL AND THE ENGINE SIEZE UP. THERE IS A TSB ON THIS FOR OTHER TOYOTA VEHICLES, BUT NOT YET PRIUS. I BELIEVE PRIUS NEEDS TO BE ADDED TO THE LIST & I WANT TOYOTA TO REPLACE MY ENGINE OR AT LEAST THE PISTON RINGS. SO FAR TOYOTA IS NOT ADMITTING TO OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS WITH THE PRIUS. THIS IS ALSO A POSSIBLE EMISSIONS ISSUE. I CONTACTED TOYOTA'S CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER IN FEB 2016 AND THEY SET-UP CASE NO. 1602170764 TO TRACK MY COMPLAINT. THEY REFERRED ME TO ALAMO TOYOTA IN SAN ANTONIO. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA IS BEING PROACTIVE IN ADDRESSING THIS PROBLEM. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ON LINE, I HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER TOYOTA PRIUS OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM DOES NOT SHOW UP UNTIL YOU ARE CLOSE TO THE 80,000-100,000 MILES POINT AND SO FOR THOSE FOLKS THAT DRIVE LESS, THE PROBLEM MAY NOT SHOW UP FOR ANOTHER COUPLE OF YEARS. I THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP THAT YOU CAN PROVIDE TO ME. I SPENT OVER $23,000 FOR THIS CAR AND HOPED IT WOULD GIVE ME TROUBLE-FREE TRANSPORTATION FOR MORE THAN 4 YEARS AND 100,000 MILES.

THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL WELL DISLODGED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,255. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
HEADLIGHTS BURN OUT FREQUENTLY OR STOP WORKING INTERMITTENTLY; HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY ON PASSENGER SIDE APPEARS TO HAVE LEAKAGE AND LOW BEAM APPEARS AT A LESSER BRIGHTNESS THAN DRIVER SIDE BEAM. HAD AT DEALER 4 TIMES IN SAME DAY FOR ISSUE WITH DRIVER HEADLIGHT IN SUMMER 2015 AND NOW AT DEALER FOR PASSENGER SIDE ISSUES. THIS HAPPENS IN UNPREDICTABLE CIRCUMSTANCES INCLUDING AFTER LONG OPERATION OR AFTER HAVING JUST STARTED THE VEHICLE - INCONSISTENT.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2011 PRIUS DURING STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. SHE SAID THE CAR JUST TOOK OFF ON HER ON IT'S OWN SHE TRIED TO BRAKE BUT IT WOULDN'T STOP. IT CRASHED INTO THE MOTORHOME THAT I WAS DRIVING. THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. THE CAR WAS TOTALED DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE.
ON AT LEAST SIX OCCASIONS, I HAVE LOST CONTROL FOR A SECOND OR TWO WHILE BRAKING. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, AND SIMULTANEOUSLY CROSSING ANY SORT OF UNEVEN TERRAIN, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DARTED FORWARD AS I SLOWED. AFTER READING A LARGE NUMBER OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS VIA A WEB SEARCH, I DECIDED I NEEDED TO REPORT THIS POSSIBLY DANGEROUS ISSUE.
WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING BRAKING ABNORMALITIES FOR 1-2 MONTHS, AND WHEN OUR BRAKE MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON WE HAD IT CHECKED OUT. INITIALLY, ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO, THE TOYOTA DEALER'S SERVICE DEPT. COULD NOT DETECT AN ISSUE, SO SIMPLY RESET THE COMPUTER. BUT, AGAIN, THE MALFUNCTION LIGHT RETURNED AND AGAIN, WE RETURNED THE CAR TO THE SERVICE DEPT. ON THIS OCCASION, THEY TOLD US THAT NITROGEN GAS HAS LEAKED FROM THE ACCUMULATOR INTO THE BRAKING SYSTEM. RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS IS A SIMILAR PROBLEM EXPERIENCED BY 2010 PRIUS OWNERS. WE WOULD LOVE FOR TOYOTA TO FIX THIS ISSUE RATHER THAN US COVER THE $5000 FOR BRAKE SYSTEM REPLACEMENT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE INTO A SPACE AT APPROXIMATELY 3 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE TRAVELED INTO A SEMI CIRCLE AND STRUCK A PARKED VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER, BUT NO DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000.
GOT HIT ON THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF VEH. NOT AT FAULT AND I BELIEVE THE OTHER PARTY MIGHT HAVE PROVIDED FALSE PAPERS. BUT THE REASON FOR THE COMPLAINT IS MY AIRBAGS DIDNT DEPLOY??? FRONT BUMPER COVER BUMPER AND RADI. HAD DAMAGES. IN MY NONENEXPERT OPINION ENOUGH TO CAUSE IT TO EEPLOY
THE HONK / SPIRAL CABLE IS DEFECTIVE - ONLY NOTICED IT IN 2015 (BROUGHT TO THE DEALER) BUT NEVER USED THE HONK BEFORE THAT - COULD HAVE BEEN EARLIER... IT ONLY WORKS WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS COMPLETELY TURNED TO ONE SIDE. SINCE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT , THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND NOT WEAR AND TEAR - TOYOTA SHOULD COVER IT - I SEE THEY HAVE ON OTHER MODELS - I CAME CLOSE TO 2 SERIOUS ACCIDENTS WHEN I WAS UNABLE TO WARN DISTRACTED DRIVERS - THE COST IS HIGH AND THIS IS WHY I DID NOT NOT GET IT FIXED IN 2015 WHEN I FIRST NOTICED IT (THE CAR WAS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD) -

A DRIVER MADE A LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF MY CAR AND I HIT THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR OF HIS SUV. MY FRONT END WAS TOTALED OUT. I RECEIVED A NECK AND HEAD INJURY AS WELL AS A SHOULDER AND HAND. HAD MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED LIKE THEY WERE DESIGNED TO MY INJURIES WOULD HAVE BEEN MINIMIZED. *TR
ON FRIDAY, JAN. 16, 2014 MY HUSBAND MADE A RIGHT HAD TURN FROM A STOP SIGN ONTO A ROAD IN TOLEDO, OH. AN ONCOMING VEHICLE DID NOT SEE HIM AND TURNED INTO THE FRONT DRIVES SIDE SMASHING THE DOOR INTO MY HUSBAND. HIS HEAD WENT THROUGH THE WINDOW AND THE SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. VIN # [XXX] TOYOTA PRIUS 2011, DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 80 EAST, AT 65 MPH, SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE HOOD, HEADLIGHT AND WIRE SMELLED AND BURNED, CAR WAS ALMOST IN FIRE. SHUT OFF CAR AND HEADLIGHT AND SMOKE STOP. BOTH HEADLIGHT ARE DAMAGE DUE TO FIRE. KEPT BOTH HEAD LIGHT OFF, GOT HOME AND DID NOT USE THE CAR FOR A FEW MONTHS. CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT DEALER REFUSE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM, TELLING ME I HAVE USE AN AFTERMARKET BULB. THE BULB THAT CAUSE THE PROBLEM WAS THE BULB THAT CAME WITH THE CAR AS NEW. I HAVE A 2011 PRIUS, AND IT FAILED TOYOTA'S OIL CONSUMPTION TEST TWICE, AROUND 110,000 MILES. IT CONSUMES OIL WAY SO QUICKLY THAT I HAVE TO ADD OIL 2-3 TIMES BETWEEN SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES. BOB SMITH TOYOTA (LA CRESCENTA, CA) PERFORMED THE TEST PER TOYOTA'S INSTRUCTIONS AND ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM BUT DID NOT TAKE ANY MEASURES TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF 2010-2012 TOYOTA PRIUS OWNERS WHO PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ON THE PREMISE OF BEING A "ECO FRIENDLY HYBRID" TOYOTA IS CLEARLY NEGLIGENT AND AFTER HAVING AN ATTORNEY DRAFT LETTER TO TOYOTA THEY STILL WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY RESPONSBILITY.

THIS CAR CONSUMES OIL... IT DOSE NOT LEAK THE OIL AND THE DEALER SAYS THAT ONE QUART IN 1200 MILES IS NORMAL... THIS OIL IS POLLUTING THE ATMOSPHERE AND IS EXPENSIVE. I FI WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD CONSUME THIS MUCH OIL AT 100K, I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THE CAR.
BOTH MAIN HEADLAMPS HAVE BURNT OUT REGULARLY FOR ~2.5 YEARS. IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING MORE FREQUENT. LUCKILY I CAN BUY THE PART AND INSTALL IT MYSELF, BUT TO ACTUALLY GO TO A MECHANIC AND CHECK THE ELECTRIC WIRING IS A DIFFERENT AMOUNT OF TIME AND MONEY ENTIRELY.

THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM IN THIS CAR IS OVERLY SENSITIVE. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN OFTEN, BUT IT HAS HAPPENED ENOUGH OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS THAT I CAN CLEARLY PREDICT WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. IF YOU ARE SLOWING DOWN MODERATELY SAY FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT, ON A DRY ROAD, BUT ONE THAT IS IN NEED OF REPAVING (NO POT HOLES, BUT JUST A ROUGH SURFACE), AND IF YOU ARE ON A ROAD THAT IS GOING SLIGHTLY DOWNHILL, THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM KICKS IN WITHOUT A NEED. THIS CAUSES YOUR FOOT TO SINK BRIEFLY TO THE FLOOR (ON THE BRAKE PEDAL) AND GIVE THE FEELING OF A LOSS OF BRAKING FOR A FEW SECONDS. THE BRAKE PADS ARE FINE (EVEN WITH SUCH HIGH MILEAGE, I STILL HAVE OVER 70% OF THE ORIGINAL BRAKE PADS LEFT). I HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF MY TOYOTA DEALER, WHO SAYS EVERYTHING IS FINE. THE SCENARIO DESCRIBED ABOVE MIGHT ONLY HAPPEN ONCE EVERY FEW WEEKS, BUT BOTH MY WIFE AND I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN NUMEROUS TIMES. AS THE NAVIGATION/GPS SYSTEM WAS BEING USED ON A LONG TRIP, THE BACKLIGHT SUDDENLY BURNED OUT. UPON TOUCH, THE SCREEN WAS EXTREMELY HOT. (IT DID NOT COOL DOWN UNTIL APPX. 1 HOUR AFTER THE BACKLIGHT HAD MALFUNCTIONED. WITH THE BACKLIGHT NOT WORKING, IT RENDERS THE ENTIRE NAVIGATION SYSTEM, BLUETOOTH, BACK-UP CAMERA, AUDIO SYSTEM/CD PLAYER USELESS AND NOT USEABLE.(ENTIRE SCREEN IS BLACK.) ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 2 1/2 YEARS OLD, IT IS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. THE PART COSTS BETWEEN $2400 AND $4500 TO REPLACE. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN RECORDED ON VARIOUS COMPLAINT BOARDS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE ON 2010 AND 2011 PRIUS CARS BY CONSUMERS. *TR
DRIVING IN RAIN IN DARK ON UNLIT ROAD. BOTH FRONT HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. NOTHING WOULD MAKE THEM COME BACK ON - TURNING LIGHTS OFF AND ON, TURNING CAR OFF AND ON. VERY SCARY. NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN TRYING TO STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSS CONTROL OF THE BRAKING WHEN GOING OVER EVEN THE SMALLEST OF BUMPS. A FEW TIMES EVEN THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WOULD LUMINATE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. IT ALSO APPEARED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE JUST SLIGHTLY DURING THIS BRAKING RATHER THAN SLOWING DOWN. THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE HOW THE VEHICLE FELT, IS AS IF IT WAS "HYDROPLANING", THERE WAS NOT CONTROL OVER THE STEERING OR BRAKING. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE GOES OVER ANY TYPE OF BUMPS, OR POTHOLES. I HAVE CHILDREN AND THIS IS DEFINITELY A CONCERN. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS "NORMAL", HOWEVER I FEAR IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
