I REPLACED BOTH HEADLIGHTS SEVERAL TIMES AT A MUCH FASTER TIME PERIOD THAN ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED. ONCE I EVEN HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY WHEN ONE OF THE HEADLIGHTS GENERATED SO MUCH HEAT THAT THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY PLASTIC MELTED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA PRIUS. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT HAD TO ADD FOUR QUARTS OF OIL WITHIN 10,000 MILES OF DRIVING. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE CONTACT HAD TO ADD THREE AND A HALF QUARTS OF OIL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OIL PRESSURE INDICATOR FAILED TO OPERATE AND WARN HIM THAT THE OIL WAS LOW. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY HAD NOT RECEIVED MANY COMPLAINTS AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED WITHIN 1 WEEK OF EACH OTHER. ONE WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 120,000 MILES WE STARTED RECEIVING MESSAGES FROM OUR DEALERSHIP THAT THE CAR WAS STARTING TO USE OIL EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE PERFORMED ALL REQUIRED MAINTENANCE AND ON TIME. THEN BETWEEN 130,000 AND 140,000 WE STARTING GETTING AN OIL LIGHT THAT WOULD COME ON DURING CORNERING. WE WERE TOLD TO KEEP A GALLON OF OIL WITH US AND FILL IT BETWEEN CHANGES AND WE DID. IT WOULD USE ABOUT 1 TO 2 QUARTS BETWEEN CHANGES. THEN AT 150,000 THE ENGINE BLEW UP. IT WAS WITHIN THE TIME LIMITS OF THE WARRANTY BUT NOT THE MILEAGE SO TOYOTA WOULD NOT HELP US OUT ON A NEW MOTOR. AFTER THAT I RESEARCHED ON LINE AND OTHERS ARE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. MOST IF NOT ALL OUR MILES WERE HIGHWAY CRUISING MILES SO EASY MILES. WE DROVE THIS THING LIKE A BABY. WE HAVE OWNED MANY OTHER VEHICLES TO WELL OVER 250,000 SO THIS IS NOT A CASE OF WE DON'T TAKE CARE OF OUR VEHICLES. THE MOTOR RIGHT BEFORE IT BLEW WAS MAKING A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE BUT NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH TO INDICATE THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG. *TR
ON NOVEMBER 4, DURING A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENT, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT OUR PRIUS IS COMPLETELY INVADED WITH MICE, FROM WHERE THE WIND SHEILD MEETS THE DASHBOARD, ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE ENTIRE CAR - BETWEEN THE VISIBLE INTERIOR AND THE METAL FRAME - TO THE REAR HATCH DOOR LATCH. WE LEARNED THAT TOYOTA IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM,​ DUE TO HOW IT IS DESIGNED, WHICH GREATLY ALLOWS FOR RODENTS TO ENTER THE CAR'S CABIN AND TRUNK AREA VIA THE HEATER BOX AND CABIN FILTER AREA. THIS IS A PARTICULAR HEALTH HAZARD....A SIGNIFICANT ONE. TO REMEDY THE ISSUE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HA​D​ TO LITERALLY STRIP THE ENTIRE INTERIOR OF THE CAR DOWN TO THE METAL, FROM WINDSHIELD TO TRUNK LATCH. EVERY THING HA​D​ TO BE TAKEN OUT, SEVERAL PARTS REPLACED (INCLUDING THE CARPET WHICH WAS DAMAGED ON THE UNDERSIDE), OR CLEANED AND REINSTALLED. THIS COSTS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND OVER A MONTH OF TIME. I HAVE INVOICES AND STATEMENTS BUT DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CONVEY THOSE TO YOU, BASED ON THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN.
I'VE HAD MY PRIUS FROM 4-14 TO THE PRESENT 2016. I KEEP HAVING ISSUES WITH THE DEALERSHIP I TAKE IT TO FOR REPAIRS. [XXX] IN LA CRESCENTA CA. AFTER MENTIONING AND DESCRIBING ISSUES, THE STAFF THERE SAYS THAT UNLESS THE DASH LIGHTS UP WITH A MESSAGE AND GIVES A CODE, THEY CANT FIX IT. SO IN ORDER FOR THEM TO LOOK INTO IT ANY FURTHER THAN ME TELLING THEM DASH LIGHT IS NEC. I'VE TOLD THEM ABOUT THE AC NOISE FROM THE FIRST SAY I TOOK THE CAR IN TO GET SERVICES AT 33K. THEY SAY THEY DON'T HEAR OR SEE ANYTHING. MY AC COMPRESSOR SOUNDS LIKE ITS GOING TO EXPLODE WHEN AC IS ON. BRAKES HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DIFF. TO EXPLAIN BECAUSE OF TERMINOLOGY. THEY SEEM TO LOSE THEIR POWER WHEN BEING PRESSED AND ABS SEEMS TO MALFUNCTION?? SO THEY DRIVE IT AND TELL ME ITS NOTHING I NEED TO WORRY ABOUT AND WILL BE FIXED WHEN CHANGED. CHANGE BRAKES AND THE PROB PERSISTS. NOT ONLY ABS BUT FIRESTONE SAYS MY HARDWARE HAS ISSUES AS WELL. I BRING IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE STAFF AND NOTHING SEEMS TO GET DONE ABOUT IT... MY ODO. SPEEDOM IS/WAS OFF +2 MPH. MY WEATHER SEALS HAVE BEEN STRIPPED AND RIPPED OFF THE VEHICLE WHICH NOW CAUSES WATER LEAKS FROM EVERY CREVICE.. AND THE BIGGEST TWO OF ALL MY COMPLAINTS ARE 1- HYBRID BATT. FAN NEVER WORKED AND I WASN'T TOLD...HYB BATT HAS NEVER WORKED PROPERLY (DRAINS WAY TOO FAST WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT OR IN TRAFF) ALONG WITH THE HEAT CREATED BY THE BATT AND THE ENGINE THAT FILL UP THE CABIN AND WILL HAVE THE TEMP RAISED UPWARDS OF 90+ ON A 75 DEG DAY. 2- THE ECU'S IPM'S (OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT) HAS NOT BEEN CALIB. OR UPDATED. EVEN RECEIVED COVERAGE STICKERS FROM TOY HEADQUARTERS STATING FULL COVERAGE IF A.B.C. (LISTING OF PROBLEMS OR MALFUNCTIONS) I DESCRIBE THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS TO THEM AND GET THE SAME RESPONSE"NO CODE, NO FIX" HELP AND PS I JUST CHECKED THE VIN ONLINE 4MY VEH & IT SAYS A DIFF PACKAGE W/A BUNCH OF EXTRAS THAT I NEVER GOT UPON PURCHASE???_HMMM?? SAFETY RECALL NHTSA # 16V487L HAS BEEN OUT SINCE JUNE 28TH AND THE RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA (SAFETY RECALL G0U) MENTIONS THE INSTALLATION OF RETENTION BRACKETS.NOW 5 MONTHS HAVE PASSED AND THERE IS STILL NO INSTALLATION GOING ON TO AVOID THIS PEROSINAL INJURY SAFETY HAZARD. EVEN THOUGH NO INJURIES/DEATHS HAVE BEEN REPORTED SO FAR, THIS CAUSES A POTENTIAL HEALTH HAZARD WHEN THE CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAGS DEPLOY. HOW CAN IT BE, THAT THE NHTSA LETS THIS SLIP FOR SO LONG? DO WE REALLY NEED TO WAIT UNTIL SOMEBODY GETS INJUED OR DIES FROM THIS KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE?
MAKING RIGHT TURN INTO A PARKING SPOT AND THE CAR ACCELERATED STRIKING A PARKED CAR TO MY RIGHT AND MY CAR WAS STOPPED BY A CEMENT HANDICAP RAMP. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE FRONT END DAMAGE TO MY CAR, AS WELL AS THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. THE CAR ON MY HAD THE RIGHT FRONT BUMPER REMOVED AND THE WROUGHT IRON RAILING ON THE RAMP SEVERELY DENTED.
HARD KNOCKING WHEN TURNING ON ENGINE UNTIL I COMPRESS AND DECOMPRESS MY BREAK. HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES, ONLY DURING THE COLD MONTHS
TAKATA RECALL TOYOTA NOTIFIED ME OF THE RECALL OF THE AIRBAG MONTHS AGO, BUT THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX IT. ISN'T THIS UNSAFE? DON'T THEY HAVE A LEGAL OBLIGATION TO FIX THIS IN A TIMELY MANNER?
WHEN I'M BRAKING AND SLOWING DOWN GRADUALLY, AS WHEN APPROACHING A RED LIGHT, THE BRAKES MOMENTARILY STOP WORKING AND THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT SURGES FORWARD IF IT HITS A LOW-TRACTION SURFACE LIKE A POTHOLE OR MANHOLE COVER OR WET SPOT. I SAW THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS IN 2010, BUT 2011 MODEL CONSISTENTLY DOES IT AND HAS CAUSED ME AND MY FRIEND TO NEARLY REAR-END OTHER CARS WHEN DRIVING MY CAR. APPARENTLY, IT PERTAINS TO THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM BEING TURNED OFF WHEN THE ABS ENGAGES, LEAVING ONLY FRICTION BRAKES. THIS HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK ON THE WET ROADS WHERE I LIVE (NEAR SEATTLE, WASHINGTON). THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2011 BUT I'M COMPLAINING NOW BECAUSE MY FRIEND BORROWED IT AND ALMOST REAR-ENDED SOMEONE AND PUSHED ME TO REPORT IT. *TR

SERVICE PERSON STATED THEY WILL CONTACT ME IN A COUPLE OF DAYS ON 10-25-16. )THERE CALL ON 10-26-16 SERVICE PERSON NAMED LEWIS STATED NO RECORD OF CALL. WOULD CONTACT ME AND HAS NOT. BOTH HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY WENT OUT AT NIGHT DURING A RAIN STORM ON INTERSTATE 10. WHEN THIS HAPPENED. DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE!!

I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE (INTERIM NOTICE) REGARDING DEFECTIVE AIR BAGS INVOLVING DEFECTIVE WELDS ON AIR BAG INFILTRATORS. I TELEPHONED THE DEALER TO SCHEDULE A REPAIR. THE DEALER SAID IT COULD BE MANY MONTHS BEFORE TOYOTA COMES UP WITH A FIX FOR THIS DEFECT. THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG OR GIVE ME A RENTAL VEHICLE. I DO NOT THINK MY FAMILY AND I SHOULD HAVE TO DRIVE A VEHICLE WITH A KNOWN DEFECT THAT COULD SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH FOR MANY MONTHS UNTIL TOYOTA COMES UP WITH A "FIX". THERE IS A "FIX". TOYOTA COULD SIMPLY REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE AIR BAG WITH AN AIR BAG THAT IS NOT DEFECTIVE. I REQUEST THAT TOYOTA BE COMPELLED TO REPLACE THIS DEFECTIVE AIR BAG OR PROVIDE ME WITH A REPLACEMENT, SAFE VEHICLE UNTIL THE DEFECT IS REMEDIED. THANK YOU *TR

THE CSA RECALL WAS ISSUED OVER A MONTH AGO AND NOTHING HAS HAPPENING. I FEEL LIKE THIS IS NOT DONE IN A TIMELY MANNER. I HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED AN PROBLEM WITH THE CURTAIN SHIELD AIR BAG IN MY PRIUS, BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT. I COULD HAVE AND THERE'S NO INDICATION OF WHEN THE REMEDY WILL BE AVAILABLE. I'M AN ATTORNEY AND I THINK THEY'RE ASKING FOR A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT. I DIDN'T ENTER MY PHONE NUMBER BECAUSE THAT'S PRIVATE. I CONTACTED TOYOYA 7/26 BUT HAVEN'T RECEIVED A RESPONSE. AGAIN, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK FAILED AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LOCK ALSO FAILED. WE HAVE OWNED A TOTAL OF FIVE PRIUS VEHICLES SINCE 2007 AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THIS DUAL FAILURE. JUDGING FROM THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE AND INFO GATHERED DURING INTERNET RESEARCH IT APPEARS THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM, MOST LIKELY DUE TO POOR QUALITY OR DEFECTIVE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS. A GOOGLE SEARCH (TOYOTA PRIUS "DOOR LOCK" FAILURE) RESULTED IN A QUARTER MILLION RESULTS.

PRIUS STARTED CONSUMING OIL AROUND THE 105,000 MILE MARK. TWO MONTHS AGO, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD ME COME BACK AFTER 1100 MILES AFTER MY OIL CHANGE. THEY SAID IT WAS CONSUMING OIL BECAUSE THE PISTON RINGS WERE LEAKING. THE LADY TRIED TO SELL ME A USED ENGINE FOR 3,000 OR 5,000 DOLLARS. I TOLD HER THAT IS WHY I BOUGHT TOYOTA BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND MONEY AFTER 100,000 MILES. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AND THIS PRACTICALLY HAPPENING TO ALL THE 2010-2011 PRII. MY BUDDY OWNS AND CAMRY AND JUST HAD HIS BLOCK/PISTON RINGS CHANGED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS MORNING, I AM A 100 MILES FROM THE NEED OF AN OIL CHANGE, AND WHEN APPLY THE BREAKS I GET A YELLOW LIGHT COMING ON SAYING "NOT ENOUGH OIL PRESSURE". I GOOGLE THIS AND PEOPLE ARE SAYING IT IS BECAUSE MY OIL IS LOW AGAIN. I THINK TOYOTA IS TRYING TO AVOID HAVING TO RECALL THIS.
CAR WAS IN MOTION ABOUT 20MPH. WHEN BRAKES WAS APPLIED, THE CAR FAILED TO SLOW DOWN BUT INSTEAD QUICKLY ACCELERATED. CONTINUOUSLY APPLYING THE BRAKES DID NOTHING. CAR CAME TO A STOP APPLY RUNNING INTO ANOTHER CAR.

TAKATA RECALL 6/28/2016. THIS CAN POTENTIALLY KILL VEHICLE PASSENGERS IF NOT ADDRESSED
MY HEADLIGHT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE KEEPS DYING OUT OF NOWHERE AFTER ABOUT THREE OR FOUR MONTHS OF USE (ABOUT 6,000 MILES OF DRIVING). IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE PAST YEAR NOW AND OCCURS ABOUT THREE OF FOUR TIMES A YEAR. IT WOULD HAPPEN OUT OF NOWHERE. TODAY IT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN DURING WORK (I DELIVER FOOD, NEEDING MY CAR TO DRIVE).
THE PRIUS HAS A PROBLEM WHEN BRAKING OVER BROKEN PAVEMENT OR POTHOLES. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE AND THE CAR ENTERS AN AREA OF THE ROAD WHERE THERE IS UNEVEN GROUND. THE BRAKES SEEM TO NOT WORK FOR A SECOND EVEN IF THERE IS STEADY PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS PROBLEM CAUSES QUITE A STARTLE TO THE CAR'S DRIVER. THIS IS ESPECIALLY A CONCERN TO US WHEN THIS HAPPENS AT A CROSSWALK. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. TOYOTA OF AMERICA HAS BEEN CONTACTED TWICE, I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP BUT NO FIX IS AVAILABLE.
THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 40MPH WHEN WE T BONED ANOTHER CAR THAT ENTERED OUR LANE ILLEGALLY. MY WIFE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND WE SKIDDED FOR ABOUT 10 YARDS BEFORE HITTING THE OTHER CAR. NEITHER THE SEAT BELT RESTRAINING SYSTEM NOR THE AIR BAG SYSTEM OPERATED.
I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY IN THE COUNTRY, GO ABOUT THE SPEED LIMIT OF 55 WHEN I HEARD A VERY LOUD SOUND LIKE AN EXPLOSION OR GUNSHOT. I HAD THE COVER TO THE SUNROOF OPEN AND WHEN I LOOKED UP I COULD SEE THAT THE SUNROOF WAS SHATTERED, CRACKLED EVERYWHERE, BUT INTACT. WHEN I PULLED OVER TO LOOK AT IT FROM THE OUTSIDE, I COULD NOT SEE ANY DEBRIS FROM ANYTHING THAT WOULD HAVE HIT IT.. INSTEAD IT APPEARS TO BOW FROM UNDERNEATH AND THE SIDES HAVE LINEAR CRACKS ALL AROUND. I WAS NOT CLOSE TO ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN IT HAPPENED EITHER, SO I DO NOT SEE THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED FROM ANYTHING EXTERNALLY. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED ME TO BE DISTRACTED TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR INJURY IF THE GLASS HAD ENTIRELY FALLEN THROUGH TO THE INSIDE.

2011 TOYOTA PRIUS 3. ( MOST MODELS 2010-2014) ENGINEERING DESIGN FLAW ALLOWS MICE TO EASILY ACCESS INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE THROUGH AIR SYSTEM. WHEN MICE ARE PRESENT WHILE DRIVING THIS CREATES A DRIVING DISTRACTION THAT CAN LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT OR DEATH. TOYOTA CORP REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM, BUT THE DEALERSHIP DOES FIELD COMPLAINTS BUT WILL NOT ACT BECAUSE TOYOTA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AN ORDER A BULLETIN . I HAVE PHOTOS AND SOLUTION TO ISSUE, HOWEVER SEVERAL OTHERS MAY BE UNAWARE OF THE ISSUE A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH WILL RESULT IN ADDITIONAL FINDINGS. I MYSELF AM A VICTIM OF THE DESIGN FLAW AND NEARLY RESULTED IN A CAR ACCIDENT. WITHOUT BEING DRAMATIC- THIS IS TRULY A ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE REVIEWED SERIOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE MASTER ASSEMBLY AND THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
THE CD PLAYER BURNS THE CD IMAGE LABEL. WHEN ENTERING 4 CDS INTO THE CHANGER THE CD IN THE 4TH POSITION BURNS ALMOST THE ENTIRE IMAGE LABEL. THE OTHER CDS HAD THE IMAGE PAPER BURNED ON THE OUTER 1/4 IN OF THE LABEL. I REPORTED THIS TO THE TOYOTA DEALER ON MAY 1, 2016. ON MAY 16,2016 I DOVE FROM WILMINGTON OHIO TO LORAIN OHIO, 3 HOURS PLAYING 4 CDS CONTINUOUSLY. THIS CAUSED THE HEAT IN GHE CD PLAYER TO INCREASE AND BURN THE CDS. THE CD PLAYER FEELS VERY HOT TO THE TOUCH AFTER USE.
MICE INVADED MY CAR. TRAPPED 6. FOUND NESTS IN ENGINE AREA, UNDER TRUNK, INSIDE HOOD FELT IN GLOVE COMPARTMENT IN A WATER BOTTLE. THE SMELL DOES NOT LEAVE AFTER HAVING CAR DETAILED AND STEAM CLEANED. TOYOTA SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS. NOT THE CONSUMER PROBLEM. MY CAR WAS DRIVEN EVERY DAY AND INSIDE A GARAGE.
BRAKES DISENGAGE MOMENTARILY WHEN BRAKING ON A BUMPY ROADWAY. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES. IT FEELS LIKE THE ABS SYSTEM RELEASES THE BRAKES AND THEN REAPPLIES BRAKING. LUCKILY, I HAVE NOT HAD VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME.
HEADLAMP, 2011 PRIUS 5 DOOR HATCHBACK, I HAVE REPLACED THE RIGHT HEADLAMP 5 TIMES SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN 2012. RECENTLY THE LAMP ABOVE THE THE HEADLAMP HAS ALSO GONE OUT. IF YOU MOVE THE WIRING I NOTICED THE LIGHTS WILL WORK FOR A WHILE THEN GO OUT. THE HEADLAMPS WILL WORK FOR A WHILE WHEN REPLACE BUT WITH THE LAST REPLACEMENT THE RIGHT NEW HEADLAMP WILL NOT WORK.
EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE - IT CAN BE MONTHS BETWEEN EVENTS - OUR PRIUS MOMENTARILY SLAMS ON THE BRAKES WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHILE NOTHING ELSE IS GOING ON. WE KNOW IT'S NOT OPERATOR ERROR. IT'S HAPPENED TO MY WIFE SEVERAL TIMES AND ME ONCE. WHEN IT HAPPENED TO ME I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD ON A DRY, LIGHTLY TRAVELED DIVIDED HIGHWAY DURING THE DAY. EVERYTHING ON THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP, ALARMS GO OFF, THE CAR DECELERATES LIKE I SUDDENLY STOMPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THOUGH MY FOOT NEVER MOVED OFF OF THE GAS, IT LASTS FOR MAYBE A SECOND AND THEN THE CAR IS BACK TO NORMAL. IT'S THE SAME EACH TIME IT'S HAPPENED. LUCKILY EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WE HAVEN'T HAD ANYONE TAILGATING US. WE'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES. THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES THEY LOOKED AT US LIKE WE WERE LOONY. THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND WE GOT IT BACK WITH A MESSAGE THAT SAID THE TECHNICIAN CHECKED THE COMPUTER AND TEST DROVE IT FOR 20 MILES AND THE CAR WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. EXCEPT IT HAPPENED AGAIN. WE FINALLY CONVINCED THEM THAT THIS WAS MAYBE A LEGITIMATE ISSUE AND THEY SAID THEY BROUGHT IN A TOYOTA FIELD SPECIALIST WHO CHECKED THE CAR OUT AND THEY SAID THAT THE ISSUE WAS THE PCS WAVE RADAR SENSOR THAT WAS SLIGHTLY OUT OF ALIGNMENT DUE TO BODY DAMAGE (MY WIFE HAD HIT A SMALL DEER ABOUT A YEAR PRIOR TO THAT - DAMAGE WAS MINOR AND REPAIRED AT A LOCAL BODY SHOP). AFTER THEY REALIGNED THE SENSOR, THE CAR BEHAVED ITSELF FOR ABOUT FIVE MONTHS. UNTIL YESTERDAY WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN.
THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN CONCERNING DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT MALFUNCTION TOYOTA WILL BE GLAD TO FIX THE PROBLEM FOR $300 BS HEAD LIGHTS SHOULD WORK !! THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL
THE HEADLIGHTS IN MY 2011 TOYOTA PRIUS HAVE BURNED OUT 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS, TWO OF THE TIMES BEING AT NIGHT AND I'VE HAD TO USE MY HIGH BEAMS SO THAT I CAN SEE. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC, I WAS TOLD THAT IT'S A DEFECT WITH THE 2010 AND 2011 PRIUS AND THAT THE ONLY WAY TO REPAIR THE ISSUE IS TO INSTALL AN ENHANCEMENT KIT, WHICH COST ME OVER $500. WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, I WAS TOLD THAT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER BURNED OUT HEADLIGHTS. I KEEP TRYING TO TELL THEM THAT I DON'T EXPECT THEM TO COVER BURNED OUT HEADLIGHTS, BUT THAT THEY ARE BURNING OUT BECAUSE OF A DEFECT WITH THE CAR. THEY KEEP BRUSHING ME OFF. I AM VERY UPSET BY THE FACT THAT IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE CAR AND TOYOTA IS NOT STANDING BY IT.

"TAKATA RECALL" THIS IS OUR FIRST TOYOTA PURCHASE AND WE ARE EXTREMELY LET DOWN WITH THE FACT THAT IT IS LOSING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IN THE EVENT THAT THE ENGINE MAY CEASE IF IT RUNS OUT OF OIL. WE PREVIOUSLY HAVE ONLY HAD AMERICAN VEHICLES, AND WERE TOLD THAT TOYOTA IS A MUCH BETTER PRODUCT.. WELL AS OF THIS PAST APRIL, WE HAD THIS BRIEF LIGHT GO ON. IT DOESN'T STAY ON VERY LONG AND ONLY APPEARS WHEN YOU TURN A CURVE. THEN THE "OIL MAINTENANCE DUE" LIGHT APPEARED. THAT'S ODD, BECAUSE I JUST HAD MY OIL CHANGE DONE 2 MONTHS AGO! I WENT TO A LOCAL OIL SERVICE STATION IMMEDIATELY AND FOUND OUT I WAS DOWN TO ONLY ONE QUART OF OIL IN MY ENGINE. I'VE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE! THEY LOOKED FOR A LEAK AND DIDN'T FIND ONE. THEY TOPPED OFF THE OIL AND I WAS FREE TO GO. WELL, THE SAME SCENARIO HAPPENED AGAIN IN JULY, ONLY 3 MONTHS AFTER THE LAST TOP OFF. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER TO HAVE HIM LOOK IT OVER. THEY SAID IT NEEDED A SYSTEM ENGINE CLEANING, THERE WERE NO LEAKS, THEY GAVE IT AN OIL CHANGE, AND THE SPARK PLUGS LOOKED FINE.. $300 FOR THIS TO BE DONE. THEN THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK IN 1900 MILES... WELL THIS SEEMED TO WORK... UNTIL... NOW.. IN OCTOBER/NOVEMBER (2-3 MOS LATER) THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED, AND NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME I NEED A NEW ENGINE THAT WILL COST ANYWHERE FROM $3000 TO $5800. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CAR GOING ON 5 YEARS. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE AN ENGINE ON ANY CAR BEFORE.. WHERE IS THE TOYOTA QUALITY WE WERE TOLD TOYOTA STANDS BEHIND???
LOW BEAMS FAILING. INCREASING IN FREQUENCY. BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS WILL GO OUT AT THE SAME TIME. HAPPENING MONTHLY AND USUALLY IN DAMP WEATHER. FREQUENCY IS INCREASING. SAFETY IS A MAJOR CONCERN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2011 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE THE CONTACT'S BROTHER IN-LAW WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE SPUN AROUND AND CRASHED INTO A GUARDRAIL. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW YARD. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DECLARED THE VEHICLE TOTALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,290.
