THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
TOYOTA RAV4'S PAINT IS PEELING ON THE ROOF IN THE AREA LOCATED BETWEEN THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD AND THE MOON ROOF. THE PAINT COLOR IS BLIZZARD PEARL WHITE. I HAVE PERSONALLY OBSERVED THE SAME ISSUE ON OTHER RAV4S HAVING NOTICEABLE MISSING PAINT PATCHES IN THE SAME AREA OF THE ROOF. THE PAINT ALSO CHIPS VERY EASILY OVER THE ENTIRE SURFACE OF THE VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SWERVED INTO AN ADJACENT LANE WITHOUT WARNING. TWO YEARS AGO, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO A RECALL FOR THE SAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER OF THE PREVIOUS REPAIR WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V383000 (Suspension) in 2015. The contact stated that in 2015 while driving at an undisclosed speed, the low tire pressure warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a tire dealer, and it was determined that the rear tires were worn and needed to be replaced. The contact replaced all four tires. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that in 2020 the low tire pressure and the traction control warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to another tire dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the rear tires were worn and needed to be replaced. The contact was advised that the rear tires could not be aligned because of the rear suspension arms, that was causing the quick wear of the tires. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was taken to a tire dealer in 2024 and observed that the low tire pressure and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was shaking while driving at various speeds prior to the warning lights being illuminated. The contact was informed that the rear tires could not be aligned due to a failure with the rear suspension arms. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer who aligned the front wheels, but the rear tires could not be aligned. The contact informed the dealer about NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V383000 (Suspension) and was informed that the recall had been completed. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
AFTER NOTICED AND R&R ON MY TACOMA, I DID A UNDERCARRIAGE INSPECTION TO MY WIFES 2010 RAV4,NOTICED FRONT STRUT BOOTS CRACKED AND TORN, BOUNCY,WET WITH OIL AT STRUTS, CHECKED REAR SHOCKS, WET WITH OIL AT SEALS BOUNCY, DOESN'T HANDLE VERY FIRM AS DID WHEN BOUGHT 2-3 YEARS AGO. FLORIDA, ,NO ROAD SALTS, NO BEACH DRIVING OR OFF ROAD DRIVING,THIS ISN'T RIGHT,I WILL HAVE TO R&R FRONT STRUTS AND REAR SHOCKS ON RAV4 NEXT WHEN I HAVE THE FUNDS! ASAP! DON'T FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE ON MAJOR ROADS OR HIGHWAYS! NEW BRAKES AND TUNED UP, LOF, VERY WELL TACKEN CARED OF VEHICLES !
WHEN MY VEHICLE WAS STOPPED I WAS REAR ENDED AT ABOUT 15 MPH. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY BUT ALL BAG LIGHTS ILLUMINATED.
WIND SHIELD WIPERS DONT WORK, AND MY PASSENGERS SEATBELT LIGHT TURNS ON AND OFF WHEN NO ONE IS SEATING IN ' THE SEAT.THE CAR HAS "TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC THEY CHANGED THE OIL.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE BELTLINE AT 7:45AM. IT WAS ABOUT 74 DEGREES OUTSIDE, AND I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 62MPH. SUDDENLY I HEARD A LOUD POP THAT STARTLED ME, CAUSING ME TO PULL THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND THE CAR TO VEER TOWARD THE DITCH. I WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR AND CONTINUE ON THE ROAD. INITIALLY I THOUGHT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE AS THERE WAS A LOUD CRACKLING SOUND THAT I COULDN'T LOCATE. SOON I REALIZED THAT THE SUN ROOF HAD SHATTERED, AND HUNDREDS OF MINUTE SLIVERS OF GLASS WERE RAINING IN TO THE CAR--COVERING HALF MY HEAD AND BODY, THE CENTER CONSOLE, AND THE PASSENGERS SEAT. I SHUT THE ROOF PANEL UNDER THE SUNROOF AND DROVE HOME. ALTHOUGH THE SUN ROOF SHATTERED, IT STAYED PRETTY MUCH INTACT.

THE CONTACT NOTICED WATER LEAKING ONTO THE CARPET IN THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HOSE IN THE VEHICLE WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY AND WOULD NEED TO BE RE-INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
2010 TOYOTA RAV 4. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A BROKEN EVAP CANISTER. *SMD THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED, DUE TO THE BROKEN EVAP CANISTER, THE GAS TANK, MAY ALSO NEED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE OR "WOBBLE" . UPON INSPECTION WAS FOUND TO BE TIRE WHICH WAS UNEVEN IN WEAR. REPLACED TIRE AND AFTER A SHORT TIME WAS FOUND NOT TO BE THE PROBLEM. UPON INSPECTION WAS FOUND SEALS ON REAR DIFFERENTIAL LEAKING . CLOSER INSPECTION FOUND REAR SUSPENSION, TIE ROD LOOSE. THIS WE BELIEVE IS DUE TO REAR SUSPENSION PARTS BEING FAULTY. PARTS ARE ORIGINAL. AT THIS TIME WE ARE BEING TOLD THAT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY VEHICLE WARRANTY OR RECALL. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM AS IT CAUSED VEHICLE TO LOOSE COMPLETE CONTROL. AT THIS SAME TIME VEHICLE REAR DIFFERENTIAL ALSO BEGAN TO GIVE OFF A "WHINE" SOUND. THE TIRES HAVE BEEN WORN UNEVENLY DUE TO REAR SUSPENSION BEING LOOSE CAUSING THIS FAILURE. OUR CONCERNS ARE THAT WE ARE BEING TOLD THERE IS NO WARRANTY OR RECALL TO CORRECT OR PROTECT ANYONE OWNING AND DRIVING WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PROBLEM. IT SHOULD BE KNOWN THAT TIRES WORN UNEVEN WERE ON & FROM REAR OF VEHICLE. NO FRONT TIRES HAD BEEN WORN UNEVENLY WITH THIS INCIDENT.
A/C STOPPED WORKING AND THE DEALER SAID THE COMPRESSOR NEED TO BE REPLACED. FOR A LESS THAN 5 YEAR CAR TO HAVE A FAILED COMPRESSOR IS STRANGE. WHEN WE ARE TALKING, THEY MENTIONED THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR TOYOTA WITH THIS MODEL. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT POSSIBLE OF RECALL, THEY SAID THEY DON'T THINK THERE WILL BE A RECALL BECAUSE IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. WHY IS IT NOT A SAFETY ISSUE? THERE COULD BE HARMFUL AIR AND METAL PARTICLE BLOW INTO CAR CABIN. NOW I REMEMBERED THAT BEFORE THE A/C STOPPED WORKING, THERE WAS AN VERY SHORT EPISODE OF "BURN SMELL" AND THERE WAS SOME TINY PARTICLE BLOWN INTO MY FACE. HOWEVER, I DIDN'T THINK TOO MUCH ABOUT IT BACK THEN BECAUSE THE A/C DIDN'T STOP WORKING RIGHT AWAY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE DUE TO DAMAGES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER AN UNEVEN PAVEMENT AND SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SWAY FROM SIDE TO SIDE. AFTER REDUCING THE SPEED, THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE NORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V383000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIE ROD BOLT FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,550.
REPLACEMENT OF BOTH REAR SUSPENSION ARMS HAD BEEN PERFORMED ON 05/30/2014 FREE OFF CHARGE AS PER RECALL REQUIREMENT. WHEN THE DEALER CHECKED THE WHEEL ALIGNMENT ON 04/30/2015, THEY SAID THAT THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE SUSPENSION ARMS AT MY EXPENSE AT THIS TIME. ARE THEY RESPONSIBLE TO REPLACE THEM FREE OFF CHARGE AT THIS TIME? *TR
STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT CLICKING NOISE WHEN IN PARK TURNING STEERING WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT. GOING OVER BUMPS AT A SLIGHT TURNING OF WHEEL WILL ALSO MAKE CLUNKING NOISE FROM STEERING SHAFT. REVERSING CAR WILL ALSO MAKE CLUNKING NOISE. *TR

HOWEVER, THE ALIGNMENT COULD NOT BE PERFORMED BECAUSE THE REPAIR FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V383000 (SUSPENSION) WAS PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED. THE TOYOTA SAFETY RECALL #CSJ WAS PERFORMED YESTERDAY ON MY CAR. THE RECALL REPLACED THE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND THEN WERE LOCKED IN PLACE WITH EPOXY. I PURCHASED A 2010 RAV4 THAT WAS REPAIRABLE. WHEN I NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT IT WOULD COST ABOUT 70. NOW WHEN THE CAR NEEDS AN ALIGNMENT, THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT MAJOR EXPENSE BECAUSE THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT. TOYOTA REDESIGNED THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS ON THE 2012 RAV4 AND THOSE SHOULD HAVE BEEN USED IN THE REPAIR. THIS REPAIR DAMAGES THE VALUE OF THE CAR BECAUSE NO ONE WOULD EVER BUY A CAR THAT CAN'T BE ALIGNED. IF THIS HAVE BEEN EXPLAINED TO ME BEFORE THE REPAIR, I WOULD NEVER HAVE ALLOWED THE REPAIR TO HAVE BEEN MADE. TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL THE CAR AGAIN AND REPLACE THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS WITH AN ADJUSTABLE ARM AS IS DESIGNED IN EVERY CAR ON THE ROAD. *TR
THE VEHICLE JERKS VISCIOUSLY WHEN SHIFTING. THIS OCCURS WHEN DRIVING UP A HILL AND THE TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTS FROM 3RD TO 2ND OR WHEN ACCELERATING FROM 1ST TO 2ND WHEN TURNING A CORNER OR WHEN GOING IN REVERSE WHILE TRAVERSING UP ANY TYPE OF IN LINE. THIS IS A SPORADIC PROBLEM THAT BEGAN OCCURRING AT AROUND 93,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 128,000. I INITIALLY THOUGHT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING BUT I THOUGHT THE MILEAGE WAS WAY TOO LOW FOR THAT TYPE OF PROBLEM TO OCCUR. I HAD THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED AT 94,000 MILES. THIS ACTION MADE NO DIFFERENCE. RECENTLY I BEGAN RESEARCHING ON THE WEB AND HAVE FOUND INFORMATION POINTING TO THE ECM (ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE). EITHER SOLUTION IS AN EXTREMELY COSTLY REPAIR. I AM INTERESTED TO KNOW IF THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND IF TOYOTA HAS ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR REPAIRS?

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
MY REAR CAR SUSPENSION WAS INCASED BECAUSE IT WAS RECALLED. OVER 55 MPH WAS CAR WOULD SWAY FROM SIDE TO SIDE. I CALLED TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD MY CAR WAS PERFECT. I TOOK THE CAR TO TWO DEALERS WHO SAID AT LOW SPEED THE CAR PERFORMED WELL. THE WAS A LAW SUIT IN CALIFORNIA THAT PROVED THE CAR IS DEFECTIVE AFTER THE RECALL. I MISSED THE DATE BECAUSE I DID NOT RESEARCH THE WEB. I SOLD THE CAR FOR LESS BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT A CRASH. I LOST MONEY ON THE CAR SALE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL MOUNT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,975.

I WAS ON A TEST DRIVE TO BUY THE VEHICLE.. IT WAS VERY COLD OUT,TEENS, BUT NO ICE ON ROAD. RIDING ALONG 20-25MPH SLOWING DOWN FOR RED LIGHT--APPLIED BREAK -- SEEMED CAR WAS STILL ACCELERATING HAD TO STAND ON BREAKS TO STOP A COUPLE OF FEET FROM CAR IN FRONT. VEHICLE HIT CURB AND REQUIRED FRONT SUSPENSION COMPONENT REPLACEMENT, AND A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT. VEHICLE PREVIOUSLY HAD RECALL #NHTSA13V383000 WHICH IT HAD BOTH REAR LOWER (ADJUSTABLE) CONTROL ARMS REPLACED AND THE ADJUSTER AREA SEALED WITH AN EPOXY RENDERING THEM NON ADJUSTABLE AFTER RECALL COMPLETION. TOYOTA'S SERVICE BULLETIN (T-SB-0042-14 DATED JUNE 30-2014) TITLE "REAR SUSPENSION TOE ADJUSTMENT OUT OF SPECIFICATION AFTER SR CSJ". IT STATES IN THIS BULLETIN (UNDER PARAGRAPH B) "IF THE REAR TOE ALIGNMENT IS STILL OUT OF SPECIFICATION ON EITHER SIDE REPLACE THE REAR SUSPENSION ARM NO.1 AND COMPLETE THE CAMPAIGN CSJ AGAIN FOR ANY REPLACED REAR SUSPENSION ARM. AMERICAN FAMILY INSURANCE DENIED PAYMENT FOR THE RE-EPOXY OF ARMS SO I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION AND THE STATEMENT IN THEIR SERVICE BULLETIN, THE CASE #IS [XXX] PHONE 800-321-4331, THE REP WAS [XXX] AND HE STATED THAT TECHNICAL INFORMATION MUST BE OBTAINED THROUGH AN AUTHORIZED TOYOTA DEALER, I THEN CONTACTED THE SERVICE MANAGER AT OUR LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP (ANDY %BALLWEG MIDWEST TOYOTA 800 3RD STREET S. LA CROSSE WISC. 54601 608-793-7000) [XXX] THEN CONTACTED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND THEY REFUSED TO RE-APPLY EPOXY AS STATED IN SERVICE BULLETIN. I THEN CONTACTED CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE AGAIN AND SPOKE WITH [XXX], SHE LISTENED TO MY CONCERNS AND ASKED IF SHE COULD REVIEW THE SITUATION WITH CORPORATE AND CALL ME BACK, I AGREED. [XXX] CALLED AND LEFT A MESSAGE STATING THAT TOYOTA WAS UNABLE TO ASSIST IN THE APPLICATION OF EPOXY BUT STATED THAT TOYOTA RECOMMENDS THE EPOXY TO BE APPLIED TO THE #1 ARMS AFTER THE ALIGNMENT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BALLWEG AND HAD THE EPOXY APPLIED AT MY EXPENSE AS I DIDN'T WANT TO RETURN THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE SAFETY RECALL PROVISIONS BEING MET. I HAD BEEN DRIVING APP. 10 MINUTES IN SNOW COVERED ROAD CONDITIONS WHEN I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION WITH TRAFFIC STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT. AS I APPLIED THE BRAKE TO EASE INTO A STOP, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY. I WAS IN THE CENTER LANE WITH STOPPED VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD TO EXERT HARD FORCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO FINALLY BRING MY VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE ENGINE WAS AT LEAST OVER 4000RPMS ON THE TACHOMETER. WHEN TRAFFIC STARTED MOVING AGAIN, I EASED OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SLOWLY APPLIED GAS AND EASED OVER IN TO THE RIGHT(CURB) LANE. I STAYED SLOW AT ABOUT 15-20 MPH AND FELT AN ACCELERATION AGAIN, BUT WAS ABLE TO BRAKE SUCCESSFULLY. I THEN TURNED RIGHT INTO THE FIRST AVAILABLE PARKING LOT TO GAIN COMPOSURE BEFORE CONTINUING ON. I CONTINUED HOME AT A SAFE RATE OF SPEED ( UNDER 35MPH). IN THE PAST 2 YEARS THERE HAVE BEEN 3 OTHER OCCURRENCES OF ACCELERATION WHEN BRAKING BUT NEVER TO THIS EXTREME. *TR

I RECEIVED AN ELECTRONIC MESSAGE FROM NHTSA THAT MY VEHICLE WAS SUBJECT TO A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL (I.E., DEFECTIVE SEAT HEATER ). HOWEVER, THAT MESSAGE WAS IN ERROR AFTER I CHECKED WITH THE MANUFACTURER AS WELL AS AFTER CONTACTING THE NHTSA OFFICE. *TR
WAS AT A STANDSTILL WHEN I WAS HIT BY A 1999 DODGE NEON ON RIGHT FRONT SIDE...THE NEON SHRED THE FRONT OF MY CAR FROM PASSENGER SIDE TO DRIVER SIDE, TRAVELING DEEPER INTO THE FRONT END OF THE CAR AS IT WENT ACROSS MY CAR FROM RIGHT FRONT TO LEFT FRONT. WHEN DRIVING AT ABOUT 45-50 MPH LOST CONTROL AS VEHICLE STARTING SHAKING UP AND HAD A NEAR MISS CRASH ON I 5 N DRIVING TO LA. DECIDED TO PULL OVER AND EXIT OUT AND TOOK AN INTERNAL ROAD DRIVING AT 30 MPH AND RETURNED HOME. UPON INVESTIGATION FOUND THAT LAST SAFETY CALL REPAIR FOR REAR SUSPENSION REPAIR WAS PERFORMED ADDING SOME EPOXY TO TIGHTEN UP AND DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. LOOKS LIKE FREE OF CHARGE REPAIR DONE BY DEALER IS NOT WORKING. I HOPE THOROUGH INVESTIGATION IS PERFORMED AS THE FIX SEEM TO NOT WORK AND STILL CAN CAUSE CRASH. LOOKS LIKE THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS: BACKGROUND THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM INVOLVED A WOBBLING REAR SUSPENSION ARM THAT COULD, OVER TIME, RUST OUT. THAT COULD LEAD TO A SUSPENSION FAILURE AND, IN A WORST-CASE SCENARIO, A CRASH. THE MAKER HAS SINCE DISCOVERED THAT THE NUTS IT USED TO ADJUST THE ALIGNMENT OF THE REAR WHEELS ON THE TWO VEHICLES DURING THE AUGUST 2012 RECALL WERE NOT TIGHTENED PROPERLY. THE MAKER HAS NOTIFIED THE NHTSA IT WILL NOW HAVE TO RECALL THE SAME 780,000 VEHICLES TO INSPECT FOR DAMAGE. THE NUTS WILL NOW BE PROPERLY TIGHTENED AND TOYOTA WILL TAKE THE ADDITIONAL STEP OF SEALING THE REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARMS WITH AN EPOXY COATING DESIGNED TO PREVENT CORROSION. *TR
THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING (EPS) FAILED ON MY 2010 TOYOTA RAV-4 TODAY ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE RESULTING CRASH ALMOST KILLED ME. I'M 53 YEARS OLD, MY RAV-4 HAS ALWAYS HAD ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND IS IN GOOD CONDITION, NOT ABUSED AND ALWAYS WELL TAKEN CARE OF. WITHOUT WARNING TODAY WHILE TRAVELING AT ABOUT 60 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED VIBRATING AND SHARPLY TURNING LEFT-RIGHT-LEFT-RIGHT FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS WITH A GRINDING AND SHAKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. I USED ALL MY STRENGTH TO KEEP THE CAR POINTED STRAIGHT WHILE TRYING TO SLOW DOWN AND NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THEN THE CAR SHARPLY VEERED LEFT AND HIT (HARD) A 5-FOOT CONCRETE BARRIER WALL SEPARATING THE INTERSTATE LANES. AS THIS WAS OCCURRING A RED TRIANGLE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD WITH AN EXCLAMATION POINT. AFTER THE ACCIDENT I LOOKED IN THE TOYOTA RAV-4 OWNERS MANUAL, AND IT INDICATED AN "EPS MALFUNCTION". THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE (INSURANCE ESTIMATE STILL PENDING, PROBABLY ABOUT $8,000). MORE IMPORTANTLY HOWEVER, I BELIEVE IF THE CONCRETE RETAINING WALL HADN'T BEEN THERE MY VEHICLE WOULD HAVE TURNED LEFT, ROLLED OVER INTO APPROACHING ON-COMING TRAFFIC FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE AND POTENTIALLY CAUSED MUCH GREATER SAFETY RISK TO ON-COMING TRAFFIC AND DAMAGE. IT WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THE WALL WAS THERE. I SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES. THERE WAS ALSO A WITNESS IN BACK OF ME WHO SAW THE ENTIRE THING WITH THE ERRATIC STEERING AND RESULTING ACCIDENT; HE STOPPED TO ENSURE WAS OK AND HE CALLED 911 AND MADE A STATEMENT TO THE POLICE. THIS WAS NOT DUE TO TIRES (THEY ARE NEW), OR POOR ROAD CONDITIONS (THIS PART OF THE INTERSTATE WAS NEWLY REFINISHED AND SMOOTH). IT WAS CLEARLY A MECHANICAL FAILURE OF THE TOYOTA EPS. I BOUGHT THE CAR 8/31/2010. THE CAR ALWAYS JUMPED FOR NO REASON. HENDERICKSON TOYOTA SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. I SAW 2010 RAV4 WAS INVOLVED IN A LAWSUIT THAT TOYOTA CORPORATION LOST IN 2013. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED. THE CAR WAS RPAIRED FOR A FLOOR MAT PROBLEM, BUT NOT THE MOTOR JUMP. I SOLD THE CAR BECAUSE THE CAR WAS IN 2015 BECAUSE IT HAD A SECOND MAJOR PROBLEM WITH POOR CONTROL OF BACKEND.

I RECEIVED AN URGENT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA IN DECEMBER 2013, (SAFETY RECALL #COJ), AFFECTING THE REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARMS (NO. 1) ON JANUARY 2, 2014 I HAD AN APPOINTMENT TO REPLACE TIRES, AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT AVAILABLE DATE TO DO THE RECALL ON JUNE 6, 2014. ON ARRIVAL FOR THE APPOINTMENT ON JUNE 6, GREENTREE TOYOTA IN DANBURY, CT TOLD ME THEY DID NOT HAVE PARTS FOR THE RECALL AND WOULD LET ME KNOW WHEN THE PARTS CAME IN (SHOULD BE A FEW WEEKS ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE TECH) TO DO THE RECALL REPAIRS. I WOULD LIKE TO UNDERSTAND IF THE FIRST ONE HAD ALREADY BEEN ISSUED. SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR IT HAS NOT FELT STABLE IN THE REAR, EVER. WE BROUGHT IT IN ONCE PREVIOUSLY AND THEY SAID THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. THIS TIME I WAS TOLD BY ONE DEALERSHIP THE PART TO REPAIR THE RECALL WAS NOT AVAILABLE, AND THEN TOOK TO A DEALERSHIP 2 WEEKS LATER WHERE THEY INFORMED US WE DID HAVE THE RUST PROBLEM. THEY "REMEDIED" WITH EPOXY, BUT SAID BRING BACK IF A "PROBLEM". THE CAR STILL DOES NOT DRIVE RIGHT OR FEEL STABLE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR TO DRIVE OUR GRANDCHILDREN AND NOW FEEL EXTREMELY UNSAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS SITUATION, SO I CAN FEEL SECURE IN THE CAR I AM DRIVING.
