TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 13V383000 (SUSPENSION) AND STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT DID NOT EXPERIENCE A FAILURE.
HAD RECALL ON TOYOTA RAV 4 FOR REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARMS. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR, THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS AND HAVE TO RESCHEDULE WHEN THE PARTS COME IN. THIS IS WHAT TOYOTA SAID WILL BE DONE TO REPAIR IT: IF ANY RUST IS FOUND ON THE INTERNAL THREADED PORTION OF THE ARM(S), THE ARM WILL BE REPLACED. AFTER THE INSPECTION OR REPLACEMENT THE REAR SUSPENSION ALIGNMENT WILL BE SET AND THE ARMS WILL BE SEALED WITH AN EPOXY. LABELS WILL ALSO BE APPLIED STATING THE ARM IS NO LONGER ADJUSTABLE. HOW ARE ALIGNMENTS GOING TO BE MADE TO THE REAR SUSPENSION IF THEY ARE NOT ADJUSTABLE? IS IT GOING TO BE AT OWNERS EXPENSE TO REPLACE BOTH REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARMS TO REALIGN THE REAR END? THE DEALER COULDN'T ANSWER THAT QUESTION. THEY JUST A VOIDED ME WHEN WE PICK THE CAR UP LATER. *TR
ON A LOVELY SATURDAY AFTERNOON, MY HUSBAND AND I WERE RETURNING HOME FROM A FAMILY PICNIC. WE HAD JUST EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND WERE TRAVELING ON A TWO-LANE ROAD IN DOVER, NJ. SUDDENLY, THE CAR WAS VIOLENTLY THROWN INTO THE LEFT LANE WITH ON COMING TRAFFIC. I THOUGHT WE HAD A BLOW OUT BUT WAS PROVEN WRONG. MY HUSBAND JUST MISSED A CAR BY INCHES AS HE WRESTLED THE CAR BACK INTO THE RIGHT LANE ALL THE WHILE MORE CARS WERE COMING AT US. HE WAS ABLE TO DIRECT THE CAR TO A SIDE STREET. WHEN WE GOT OUT OF THE CAR WE FOUND THAT THE RIGHT REAR SUSPENSION ARM WAS DETACHED AND HANGING LOOSE OFF THE CAR. THIS NECESSITATED CALLING FOR A TOW TRUCK FROM THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. OUR ANGUISH AND PALPABLE TERROR WAS CAUSED BY THE FAILURE OF NUMEROUS RECALLS TO THIS TOYOTA RAV 4 FOR REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARM TO BE PROPERLY & SAFELY REPAIRED. MY HUSBAND WORKS AROUND THE CORNER FROM THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND UPON THE RECEIPT OF NUMEROUS RECALL NOTICES, RESPONSIBLY TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE EACH TIME. THE MOST RECENT SERVICE VISIT WAS ONLY A WEEK PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER CALLED US AND APOLOGIZED AND TOLD US HE TOOK COMPLETE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE IMPROPER REPAIRS. WE COULD LONGER FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE AND TRADED IT IN IMMEDIATELY. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD ALSO BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE DELAY AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE A TIME FRAME WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,500.
RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF RECALL DUE TO REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARMS OVER 6 MONTHS AGO. HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR REMEDY FROM TOYOTA WHICH OBVIOUSLY NEVER CAME. STARTING TO HEAR NOISE FROM THE SIDE AND REAR OF VEHICLE. NO ACCIDENT AS OF YET, BUT AM NOT WILLING TO WAIT ANY LONGER. COMPLETELY IRRESPONSIBLE ON TOYOTA'S PART . RECALL ~ NO PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR WEEKS HELLO, I RECEIVED NOTICE OF A RECALL FROM TOYOTA TWO WEEKS AGO. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO GET IT FIXED WITHIN A 51 MILE RADIUS ON JUNE 13, I WAS TOLD BY THREE DEALERS THAT TOYOTA DOES NOT HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE. NONE OF THE ESTABLISHMENTS ARE ABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLES BECAUSE TOYOTA IS VERY SLOW IN SUPPLYING THE PARTS. I WOULD IMAGINE THAT THEY ARE STILL MAKING NEW CARS AND WOULD ACTUALLY HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE. CAN THIS PLEASE BE ADDRESSED. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND IT NEEDS TO SAFE TO DRIVE. MANY MONTHS AGO, TOYOTA HAD A SAFETY RECALL RELATED TO THE REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARMS... SUPPOSEDLY, TOYOTA REPAIRED THE PROBLEM, WHEN IN ACTUALLY THE PROBLEM WAS NOT REPAIRED SO THERE WAS A SECOND SAFETY RECALL. THAT WAS MONTHS AGO. I HAVE REPETITIVELY CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND I AM NOT RECEIVING ANY TYPE OF COMMUNICATION FROM TOYOTA... HOW CAN I GET THIS FIXED BECAUSE I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ESPECIALLY SINCE I HAVE A ONE YEAR OLD SON. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR END OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO PERSONAL INJURY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN FROM THE SCENE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE BLACK BOX DATA DETECTED THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT FAULTY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000. THE CONSUMER STATED IT WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME, SHE AND HER HUSBAND EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE, WITH THE VEHICLE CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THAT AN UPDATE ON THE BRAKES HAD NOT BEEN MADE. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE NEVER RECEIVED ANY TYPE OF NOTIFICATION, TO HAVE SERVICE DONE.

THE AUTHORIZED DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AFTER THE CONTACT HAD ALREADY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, LAST SPRING (MARCH 2014) I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR MY 2010 RAV 4 TO COME IN FOR AN INSPECTION FOR MY REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARM. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED AND WAS PUT ON A WAITING LIST TO BE SEEN. EVERY MONTH OR SO I WOULD CALL TO CHECK THE STATUS OF GETTING SEEN. THEY WOULD SEEM CONFUSED EACH TIME I WOULD CALL, BUT WOULD VERIFY THAT I WAS ON THAT "LIST." BUT OVER THE MANY MONTHS, I HAVE STILL YET TO BE SEEN. A 2ND RECALL NOTICE WAS ISSUED THIS PAST DECEMBER OR EARLY JANUARY. THE LAST I HEARD, AFTER OVER 9 MONTHS OF BEING ON A WAIT LIST WAS THAT I WAS STILL ON THE LIST AND I WAS HIGHER ON THE LIST TO BE SEEN. UPON RECEIVING THE 2ND NOTICE, I CALLED KENDALL TOYOTA AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE LIST NO LONGER EXISTS AND THAT THEY WILL BE STARTING A NEW LIST TO SEE PEOPLE BEGINNING IN MARCH. THIS WILL NOW HAVE BEEN AROUND A YEAR OF WAITING TO BE SEEN FOR THE RECALL. I AM CONCERNED, NOT ONLY THAT I WILL NOT GET SEEN IN A TIMELY FASHION, BUT IF MY CAR WERE TO GET IN ANY SORT OF ACCIDENT DUE TO THE RECALL, WOULD THE RESPONSIBILITY FALL ON THE COMPANY OR ON MYSELF? KENDALL TOYOTA OF ANCHORAGE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THEY ARE THE ONLY LOCATION THAT CAN DO THE RECALL MAINTENANCE HERE IN THIS AREA. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. NOTHING HAS HAPPENED YET OTHER THAN I THINK THIS HAS CAUSED MY TIRES TO WEAR PREMATURELY AND AM WORRIED THIS REPAIR IS TAKING EXTREMELY LONG TO GET REPAIRED. I NEED NEW TIRES AND ALIGNMENT BUT WILL NEED ANOTHER WHEN MY REPAIR GETS DONE. I THINK TOYOTA SHOULD REPAIR AND REPLACE ALIGNMENT AND TIRES FOR FREE. TIRES DID NOT WEAR EVEN. SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 16V-596 REGARDING REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARM (NO.1) ASSEMBLIES. WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS RECALL REPAIRED SINCE THE NOTICE WAS SENT OUT. TO DATE TOYOTA HAS BEEN UNABLE TO SUPPLY THE PART TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM. I DO NOT HAVE THE EXACT DATE OF THE RECALL BUT HAS BEEN OVER THREE YEARS. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF THE PART FAILS, AS NOTED IN THE RECALL, IT COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE AUTO. REGARDING THIS, WHO IS RESPONSIBLE IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR?
AFTER COMPLETING A 5 BLOCK DOWNHILL DRIVE IN SECOND GEAR WITH LITTLE USE OF EITHER THE ACCELERATOR OR THE BRAKE, I THEN BRAKED AS I TURNED INTO MY GARAGE IN ORDER TO PARK MY VEHICLE. AS I ENTERED MY GARAGE AND WHILE STILL BRAKING AND AT SLOWING SPEED THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD VIOLENTLY. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED HEAVY BRAKE PRESSURE AND UP SHIFTED IN AN ATTEMPT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE OUT OF GEAR. MY BRAKING MAY HAVE SLOWED, BUT DID NOT STOP, THE VEHICLE'S FORWARD ACCELERATION. WHEN I PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK, THE WHEELS LOCKED, FORWARD PROGRESS STOPPED (JUST IN FRONT OF THE BACK WALL OF MY GARAGE), AND I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF USING THE IGNITION SWITCH. I DID NOT THINK OF TRYING TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION SWITCH FIRST AND I DID NOT HAVE TIME FOR DIFFERENT OPTIONS; I HAD ONLY A FEW SECONDS TO GET THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL OR IT WOULD HAVE HIT THE BACK WALL OF MY GARAGE. ONCE THE ENGINE WAS STOPPED, I WAITED A FEW SECONDS, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE (WHICH STARTED NORMALLY), AND THEN BACKED INTO MY PARKING SPACE. I HAVE NOT USED THE VEHICLE SINCE. WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA DIRECTLY, THEY STATED THERE WERE NOT ENOUGH REPLACEMENT PARTS MADE AND ARE WAITING FOR MORE. HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN? THIS IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE HOW TOYOTA HAS HANDLED THIS SITUATION. FIRST, THEY COULDN'T PROPERLY REPAIR THE FIRST RECALL. SECONDLY, THEY DON'T MAKE ENOUGH PARTS TO COVER THE RECALL. *TR

THE VEHICLE BACKED UP AND SHE HIT THE VEHICLE AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, WHO DETERMINED THAT THEY WOULD PROVIDE AN EXTENSIVE INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *SMD A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER NOTICED WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED TO SLOW DOWN, THERE WAS A SUDDEN PICK UP OF SPEED. THE CONSUMER CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE POST, DUE TO THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. UPDATED 12/16/13
AFTER TAKING TWO SHORT 90 DEGREE TURNS AT A PARKING FLOOR (4TH FLOOR), THE VEHICLE WAS HALF WAY IN THE PARKING SLOT WHEN IT SUDDENLY PICKED UP SPEED AND CRASHED INTO WIRE CABLES AND A CONCRETE POST. THIS TYPE OF SPEED HAD HAPPENED TWICE IN THE PAST WITHIN THREE MONTHS OF PURCHASING THE CAR AS A NEW VEHICLE (BROUGHT IN JAN 2010). AFTER THE 2ND SUCH INCIDENT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN IN THE PAST FOR GPS CHECK AS WELL. SUBSEQUENTLY THE VEHICLE WAS ASKED TO BE BROUGHT IN FOR A RECALL SERVICE AND THAT WAS COMPLETED AS WELL. THIS INCIDENT WAS THE NEXT TIME WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE TO COME TO A SLOW SPEED IT PICKED UP SPEED. WROTE TO TOYOTA WITH ALL DETAILS BUT THEY SAY THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE FAULTS. OUR CONCERN IS JUST THAT - THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE WHICH MEANS IT CAN HAPPEN ANYTIME WITHOUT ANY WARNING. WE ARE 100% SURE THIS WAS NOT DRIVER ERROR AND THAT IT WAS IDENTICAL TO THE PAST INSTANCES. TOYOTA EXPECTS US TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WE BELIEVE HAS SOME FORM OF A FAULT. THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO DRIVE IT TO AND FROM THE TEST LOCATION EVEN AFTER THEY SAY THE TEST REVEALED NO FAULTS - THEY HAD IT TOWED BOTH WAYS. THIS IS A PURE SAFETY ISSUE AND THIS CAR SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROAD EVER AGAIN. MANY PEOPLE CAN GET HURT OR DIE DUE TO PURE CALLOUSNESS OF A VEHICLE MANUFACTURER. TOYOTA MAY MANUFACTURE AND DESIGN GREAT VEHICLES BUT THEY SHOULD ALSO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY SYSTEM OR TECHNICAL MALFUNCTIONS OF THEIR VEHICLES. WE WOULD APPRECIATE THAT YOUR ORGANIZATION TAKES SOME ACTION REGARDING THIS WITH TOYOTA SO THAT THEY TAKE THIS CAR OFF THE ROAD. I STARTED THE RAV 4 AND BEGAN BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING PLACE. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THE STEERING WAS VERY HARD. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH ON THE SMALL STREET. THE ROAD CURVED A LITTLE IN ONE PLACE AND TWO RIGHT WHEELS OF MY CAR WENT TO THE SHOULDER WHICH WAS THE SAME LEVEL AS THE ROAD BUT A LITTLE BUMPY OR GRAVELED. I WAS VERY SCARED AND STOPPED AND CHECKED THE CAR AND THE WHEELS ' THERE WAS NOTHING AT ALL EXCEPT TWO RIGHT WHEELS WERE DUSTY. I BELIEVE THAT IT WAS A MALFUNCTION OF A SENSOR BECAUSE THERE WAS NO IMPACT AND THERE WERE NO ANY BIG ROCKS OR POT HOLES ON THE ROAD. BUT TOYOTA REFUSED TO REPAIR AIRBAGS AND INTERIOR; THEY FOUND A SCRATCH ON THE WHEEL AND CLAIMED THE WHEEL WAS BENT. IT WAS NOT TRUE AS IT WAS FOUND DURING REPAIR IN BODY SHOP. THE REPAIR COST WAS ALL FOR AIRBAGS / SENSORS AND ROOF LINING WITH JUST A FRACTION FOR BALANCING THE WHEEL TO BE SURE IT WAS INDEED OK. IT WAS A NORMAL USE OF THE CAR, NO ANY IMPACT, BUT FAULTY SENSOR. *TR
LETTER FROM CONSTITUENT REGARDING AS ISSUE WITH HER TOYOTA 2010 RAV 4 - 4CYL AND FORDHAM TOYOTA SERVICE AND PARTS CENTER; SHE THINKS THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE INSPECTED, THE MATTER SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND PROVIDED AND APPROPRIATE REMEDY. *SMD THE CONSUMER AND HER HUSBAND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A BRAKE INSPECTION. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, AND STATED THE FRONT BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY REPLACED THE FRONT PADS AND RESURFACED THE ROTORS. THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER RETRIEVING THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER, HER HUSBAND THEN TOOK POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE. AS HER HUSBAND WAS DRIVING, HE HEARD A CRACKING SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND. HER HUSBAND WAS A ABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE AND BROUGHT IT TO A STOP. ONCE HE EXITED THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED A BRAKE PAD BEHIND THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. AN INSPECTION REVEALED A BOLT HOLDING THE BRAKE PAD HAD CRACKED.
