Rust! Frame completely rusted, even though the CRC was applied back in 2013.
The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while completing an inspection and emissions test on the vehicle, the mechanic informed the contact that there was severe rust on the rear subframe of the vehicle, near the control arm, and several other areas on the subframe. The contact stated that there were several holes on the subframe caused by the extreme rust. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 203,000.

TOYOTA frame is falling apart due to the use of faulty metal to manufacture those frames they ran a limited service campaign to replace some of the frames and they denied many other owners that right please help by telling TOYOTA North America to take care of this very hazardous issue thank you
Frame is rotting out
The undercarriage is rotten you help my thanks
Frame has rust issues throughout. Frame not properly treated at the factory and now I am suffering because it has virtually rusted through in front of the drivers side rear wheel which was pointed out to me at Toyota when my car was in for service.
Frame
The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The contact stated that the check brakes and a traction control warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent at first but had become a recurring failure. When Toyota issued a recall for the braking issue, the contact did not receive notices, so the contact called them and was told it was a few selected 2004 Toyota Sequoia recalled for those who had complained but, it was not broadcasted like that. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, but the vehicle was not yet diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 07E023000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.
The frame is rusting away due to poor grade of metal that it is built from.
Rotting frame!
The tail gate will not open. I had the vehicle since 2018 and it was working and now it's not working. I taken it to toyota dealership and the cost is to much for at this point. I was wondering is there anything that can be done?
I WAS SIMPLY PARKING MY 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA IN PARKING LOT SPACE. LEFT FRONT TIRE FELL COMPLETELY OFF THE CAR WITHOUT ANY PREVIOUS WARNING OF PENDING PROBLEMS! BALL JOINT CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED! PRIOR RECENT NEW TIRES AND ALIGNMENT SHOWED NO PENDING PROBLEMS. DID A CHECK AND FOUND MANY PRIOR BALL JOINT ISSUES FOR THIS CAR AND A PRIOR RECALL YEARS AGO. TOWED TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN CAPITOLA CA. THEY REPLACED BALL JOINT AND RELATED PARTS. THEY CHARGED ME LOTS OF MONEY CLAIMING THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD "PREVIOUSLY BEEN RECALLED AND REPAIRED IN 2007 SO NO LIABILITY ON THEIR PART. I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE AND COMPLAINED AND WAS BOUNCED AROUND UNTIL A FELLOW NAMED "GARRET" TOLD ME THE BALL JOINTS HAD BEEN "FIXED" IN 2007 DURING A RECALL. GREAT. THEN WHY DO THESE ISSUES CONTINUE? MY CAR IS DRIVEN ONLY ON PUBLIC STREETS AND THERE WAS NO WARNING OF THIS IMPENDING FAILURE. THE BALL JOINT AND RELATED SIMPLY FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY. I TAKE EXCELLENT CARE OF THIS VEHICLE AS I INTENDED ON KEEPING IT REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE. WHAT BS IS TOYOTA PULLING WHEN THEIR SEQUOIA (AND OTHER SIMILAR TOYOTA VEHICLES) CONTINUE TO CATASTROPHICALLY FAIL WITHOUT WARNING? I WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE DIED ON THE FREEWAY ETC BECAUSE OF THIS? I HAVE PERSONALLY OWNED AND/OR FAMILY, FRIENDS ETC. MANY CARS, TRUCKS ETC. BALL JOINTS LIKE BRAKES, TIRES HOSES ETC WEAR OUT SLOWLY AND GIVE AMPLE WARNING WHEN THEY NEED REPLACEMENT IE TIRE WEAR IS INCREASED, STEERING DIFFICULTY ETC. NOT IN TOYOTA'S CASE. THERE WAS NO WARNING AT ALL BEFORE THE WHEEL JUST FELL OFF THE VEHICLE. THESE CATASTROPHIC FAILURES OF WHEELS FALLING OFF WITHOUT WARNING AT ANY MOMENT ARE HORRIBLY DANGEROUS AND YET COMMON KNOWLEDGE INCLUDING PRIOR RECALL(S) AND YET THEY STILL ARE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!
LEFT FRONT (DRIVERS SIDE) WHEEL BALL JOINT(S) FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY CAUSING WHEEL TO FALL OFF AND WEDGE UNDER CAR WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. NO PRIOR WARNING, NO PRIOR NOISE, NO PRIOR STEERING ISSUES, NO STRANGE TIRE WEAR (TIRES JUST REPLACED 6 MONTHS AGO). JUST INSTANT AND CATASTROPHIC FAILURE!
REAR HATCH DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN DEALER HAS REPLACED LOCK SUB ASSY AND HANDLE ASSY 3 TIMES IN THE PAST 10 YEARS. THIS IS THE FOURTH FAILURE LATCH HAS, 2010, 2014, 2018 AND 2021. THE FIRST THREE FAILURES OCCURRED ABOUT EVERY 4 YEARS THE CURRENT FAILURE WAS 2 YEARS AND 3 MONTHS. OWNED. CAR 6 YEARS BEFORE FIRST FAILURE.
TRAC OFF LIGHT AND VAC TRAC LIGHTS ON ALL THE TIME! GRINDING NOISE WHEN BRAKES APPLIED AT RANDOM TIMES. CAUSE FOR CONCERN! HAVE HAD EVERYTHING REPLACED THAT COULD CAUSE THIS OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS AND STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE!
I HAVE A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF WITH NUMEROUS RECEIPTS TO PROVE IT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE, I HAVE OBSERVED A 'ROT' HOLE IN THE REAR PART OF THE FRAME. THE WHOLE IN THE FRAME IS APPROXIMATELY THE SIZE OF A DOLLAR BILL AND SPREADING. THERE ARE OTHER PARTS OF THE FRAME THAT WILL NEED ATTENTION IN THE FUTURE. TOYOTA HAS RECALLED SEQUOIA MODEL YEARS 2005 AND UP AND HAVE NEGLECTED TO INCLUDE THE 2004. IT IS APPARENT THAT THE 2004 SEQUOIA IS SUBJECT TO THE SAME FAULTY FRAME MANUFACTURING AS OTHER MODELS/ YEARS OF NUMEROUS TOYOTA'S. MY VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 137,600 MILES ON IT. I HAVE MAINTAINED VEHICLES FROM FROM THE 90S THAT HAVE BETTER FRAME CONSTRUCTION THAN MY TOYOTA. I BELIEVE THAT THE FRAME ON MY 2004 SEQUOIA WILL NEED FRAME PATCHES IN THE FUTURE AS WELL AS MANY OTHER METAL COMPONENTS CONNECTED TO THE FRAME REPLACED.
WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT, AND AT LOW SPEEDS, VTS IS TURNING ON AND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER. THIS HAPPENS WHEN PULLING OUT IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC AND I CANNOT SPEED UP UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS STRAIGHT. *TR
TOOK 2004 SEQUOIA TO KINGS TOYOTA FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL AS WELL AS DIAGNOSTIC EVAL OF VSC ABS LIGHTS ISSUE. RECEIVED A PHONE CALL THAT THE TECH COULD NOT DETERMINE THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM UNLESS WE PAID AN ADDITIONAL $360 FOR MORE TIME TO DIAGNOSE AND THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED THROUGH WITH LARGE HOLES. WONDERED IF WE WANTED TO PURSUE THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THE LARGER SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE FRAME. ORIGINAL ISSUE OCCURRED WITH LIGHTS COMING ON (HAD HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES PREVIOUSLY) FOLLOWED BY THE POWER WINDOWS CEASING TO WORK, SEVERAL HOURS LATER THE WIPERS AND WINDOW SEEMED SLUGGISH AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER. HAD TO JUMP THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND THEN WHEN JUMPING NO LONGER WORKED, WE HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE INTO A CHURCH PARKING LOT. AFTER BEING TOLD BY MR. HOWARD THAT THEY DON'T SEE VEHICLES COME INTO SERVICE WITH LARGE HOLES IN THE FRAME, I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT 10S OF THOUSANDS OF TOYOTA TRUCKS, INCLUDING 05-08 SEQUOIAS, HAVE BEEN RECALLED - CRC APPLIED AND FRAMES REPLACED AS WELL AS TOYOTA BUYING BACK 95-00 TRUCKS WITH RUSTED FRAMES FOR 1.5 TIMES THE BLUE BOOK VALUE. 04 SEQUOIAS MENTIONED MORE THAN 300 TIMES FOR THE VSC, TAILGATE AND RUSTED FRAME ISSUES THAT ARE PREVALENT IN THIS MODEL - MY VEHICLE HAS ALL 3. SPOKE WITH COLIN, THE SERVICE MANAGER, WHO REITERATED WHAT I FOUND ONLINE. TOYOTA WILL DO NOTHING SINCE THE RECALL IS CLOSED AND DID NOT INCLUDE THE 04 MODELS.
I'VE BEEN DEALING FOR SEVERAL YEARS HAVING AIR-BAGS BEING REPLACED. WHEN AN APPOINTMENT IS GIVEN, I GO TO DEALERSHIP AND AM TOLD NO ONE HAS PLACED AN ORDER FOR THE PARTS.MS DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION CONTACTED ME AND SAID THEY HAVE MADE THE REQUEST FOR REPAIR AND ESTABRROOK TOYOTA OF PASCAGOULA HAS SAID THERE IS NO RECORD OF ANY CORRESPONDENCE.
WHEN TEMPERATURES FALL TO 32 DEGREES F (SOMETIMES HIGHER) OR BELOW AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATES ON 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED THE SRS (AIRBAG) LIGHT ILLUMINATES IN COLD TEMPERATURES. AFTER CAR WARMS UP AND IF THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON SRS LIGHT WILL GO BACK OFF. FOLLOWING AIRBAG CODES ARE STORED IN SRS AIRBAG MODULE (ECU): B1141 B0116 THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BY TOYOTA SINCE 2004 BUT THEY ARE NOT RECALLING THIS PART OR OFFERING REPLACEMENT. AFFECTED PART NUMBER: 89170-0C070 THIS IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS SINCE IT DISABLES ALL AIRBAGS. THE ONLY REPAIR OPTION IS TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG ECU THAT HAS BEEN UPDATED. SIGNIFICANT FRAME RUST IN THE REAR LEFT AND RIGHT
FUEL GAUGE NOT MEASURING FUEL PROPERLY. AFTER A FULL TANK, GAUGE INDICATES EMPTY TANK AFTER FEW DAYS. SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING AND ENGINE LOSES POWER FOR A WHILE WHILE THE GAUGE GOES TO 100 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY AND GOES BACK TO ZERO AND RESTORES POWER TO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 145,000 MILES ON IT. ALSO RUST ON THE BODY FRAME .
FRAME HAS RUST HOLES AND THE STEERING STABILIZER MOUNT RUSTED COMPLETELY OFF. VERY UNSAFE ! THE REST OF THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION SO THE SEVERITY OF RUST ON THE FRAME SEEMS VERY OUT OF PLACE. THIS ISSUE IS EXTREME AND NOT NORMAL. NOT ACCEPTABLE FROM A MANUFACTURER KNOWN FOR ITS QUALITY SYSTEMS. TPS SIX SIGMA EMBARRASMENT IN MY OPINION
I WAS CHECKING EVERYTHING ON MY VEHICLE OVER BEFORE I WENT FOR INSPECTION AND I NOTICED RUST CORROSION STARTING ON THE FRAME. I TOOK TO A FRIEND TO CHECK FOR ME AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE FRAMES AND THERE WAS A RECALL OF SORTS BACK IN 2012 REGARDING THE FRAMES WERE NOT COATED CORRECTLY FOR THE COLDER STATES. I HAD HEARD ABOUT THIS WARRANTY ISSUE BEFORE BUT WAS NEVER NOTIFIED. MY BROTHER IN LAW TOLD ME TO CHECK IT OUT BACK IN 2016 WHEN THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE AIRBAG/STEERING COMPONENT. I WAS TOLD AT THAT TIME THAT THE RECALL/ WARRANTY ISSUE HAD EXPIRED AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE. I HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY RUST UNTIL THIS YEAR. THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT GO OFF ROAD AND IS ONLY DRIVEN ON PAVED ROADS. I CALLED TOYOTA USA ON 7/24/2019 AND EXPLAINED TO THEM THE SITUATION. ONE OF THE LADIES FELT CONFIDENT THAT I COULD BE HELPED. THEN WHEN I WAS TRANSFERRED TO A LADY NAMED ASHLEY, SHE INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. SHE TOLD ME THAT THE WARRANTY ISSUE WAS SENT TO THE ORIGINAL OWNER IN JUNE OF 2012 AND THEY DID NOT RESPOND. THEY PROBABLY DID NOT RESPOND SEEING HOW I HAVE BEEN THE OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE SINCE 1/26/2012. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT SINCE I DO NOT TAKE IT TO A CERTIFIED TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE MY REGULAR MAINTENANCE DONE THAT THERE WAS STILL NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO TAKE MY VEHICLE WHERE I WANT WITHOUT THE MANUFACTURER DECIDING TO HONOR A WARRANTY BASED ON THE FACT THAT I GO TO ONE OF THEIR SERVICE CENTERS. I WOULD HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE DURING THE CORRECT DATES TO HAVE THE COATING PUT ON MY VEHICLE IF THEY WOULD HAVE SENT ME THE NOTICE AND NOT TO THE ORIGINAL OWNER. ESPECIALLY SINCE I WAS THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE FOR 5 MONTHS WHEN THEY SENT OUT THE WARRANTY NOTICE BUT THEY SENT IT TO THE WRONG OWNER. I FEEL THAT TOYOTA SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE THE VEHICLE'S OIL WAS BEING CHANGED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE FRONT SWAY BAR BRACKET WAS ROTTED OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO IRA TOYOTA OF TEWKSBURY (LOCATED AT 468 MAIN ST, TEWKSBURY, MA 01876, (978) 863-9009) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 219,000.
THE BOTTOM PART OF THE TUBE FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH. WHEN I WENT TO LIFT IT UP TO CHECK A LEAKING POWER STEERING FLUID LINE, THE JACK WENT THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME.
YESTERDAY MY MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE FRAME UNDERNEATH WAS ALL RUSTED AND FALLING APART. THAT PARTS ON FRAME COULD FALL WHILE I AM DRIVING. I TOOK TO TOYOTA DEALER BY WHERE I LIVE. THEY SAID THAT RECALLED HAD JUST EXPIRED. WHAT A COINCIDENCE. PLEASE HELP. I DONT WANT TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT.
ENTIRE FRAME ASSEMBLY HAS RUSTED AND VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, UPON AIR BAG RECALL FIX, INFORMED ME OF A RECALL OR WARRANTY REPAIR FOR THE SEQUOIA RUSTED FRAMES. TOYOTA CORPORATE CLAIMS THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING SINCE THE "RECALL' HAS EXPIRED. I NEVER RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION. MANY OTHERS HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE AND TOYOTA IS FULLY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS RECALLED OTHER MODEL YEARS FOR FRAME REPLACEMENTS. DOES SOMEONE NEED TO DIE BEFORE WE GET APPROPRIATE ACTION?
MY 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA HATCH (LOCK SUS ASSY AND HANDLE ASSY) HAVE FAILED AND BEEN REPLACED ON TWO OCCASIONS. ON 10 JULY 2014 AND 23 NOVEMBER 2018 EACH WERE COSTLY REPAIRS FOR A SIMPLE HANDLE/LOCK THAT WERE POORLY DESIGNED. A DOOR HANDLE AND LOCK SHOULD NOT COST OVER ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS DURING THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. AS THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND A LOYAL TOYOTA CUSTOMER I AM DISAPPOINTED WITH QUALITY OF SMALL PART REPLACEMENT JOBS I HAVE HAD TO COMPLETE TO MAINTAIN MY VEHICLE. HATCH DOOR FAILED WITH NO WARNING OR PREVIOUS PROBLEMS SUMMER AND WINTER CONDITIONS.
REAR HATCH DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. HANDLE FAILED DEALER REPLACE LOCK SUB ASSY AND HANDLE ASSY. THIRD FAILURE IN 8 YEARS, 2010, 2014 AND 2018. PARTS ARE FAILING ABOUT EVERY 4 YEARS. OWNED CAR 6 YEARS BEFORE FIRST FAILURE.
VSC AND TRAC LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. THESE LIGHTS ARE ALWAYS ON. OCCASIONALLY BRAKE WILL MAKE A GRINDING NOISE AND PEDAL WILL GO TO FLOOR. THIS HAPPENS WHILE TRYING TO STOP.
AT ON OR ABOUT 7:30 PM ON MAY13TH 2018 OUR SON WAS DRIVING THE FAMILIES 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA NORTHBOUND IN 2 LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY AND NO OTHER TRAFFIC PRESENT. WEATHER WAS INCLEMENT, VISIBILITY CLEAR BUT NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY FOR FLORIDA. HE WAS TRAVELING 41 MPH IN A 45 IN THE LEFT LANE. NO SOONER THAN HE WENT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION TRAFFIC LIGHT CONTROLLED, (HE HAD THE RIGHT OF WAY) DID HE GO THROUGH WHAT THE DEPUTY SAID WAS A SLIPPERY SECTION OF THE ROAD WAY COVERED WITH STANDING WATER. HE RELEASED PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR TO DIMINISH HYDROPLANING AND NO SOONER THAN THAT INSTANT THE VSC LIGHTS (VARIABLE SPEED CONTROL) LIGHTS ILLUMINATED IN THE DASH. HE REPORTED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL LOCKED UP AND CREATED A PIVOT POINT FOR THE CAR TO SPIN AROUND 180 DEGREES CLOCKWISE, NOW FACING ONCOMING TRAFFIC AS HE WAS NOW IN THE RIGHT LANE. HE WAS FRANTICALLY ATTEMPTING TO REGAIN CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE BY CONSTANTLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLES MOTION HOWEVER UNSUCCESSFUL AS HE WAS PRESSING ON THE BRAKING PEDAL WITH NO RESPONSE, THE CAR NOW STILL IN MOTION, HIT THE CURB, AND LEFT THE ROADWAY BY GOING NOW BACKWARDS DOWN A STEEP EMBANKMENT OF OVER 12 FEET AND CAME TO A HALT. THE CAR HAD TO BE EXTRACTED OUT OF THE CULVERT WITH RECOVERY CRANES. OUR FAMILY IS SO GRATEFUL TO THE DEPUTY AND THAT WE HAVE OUR SON ALIVE AND WITHOUT A SCRATCH. HE IS A BIT WORN FOR WEAR BEING SHOOK UP LIKE THAT. THE SEQUOIA HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED BY TOYOTA AND WE ENJOYED YEARS OF TROUBLE-FREE OWNERSHIP UNTIL THIS INCIDENT.
UNDERCARRIAGE IS RUSTED, DCH TOYOTA NEW BRUNSWICK TECHNICIAN CONFIRMED THAT THE SEALANT THEY USED DID NOT PREVENT THE PROBLEM FROM OCCURRING. AND NOW THE VEHICLE IS NOT ROAD SAFE. THE DEALER (ELGIN TOYOTA, 1600 W LAKE ST, STREAMWOOD, IL 60107) INFORMED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PERFORMED ON THE FRAME IN 2014. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 177,000.
THE REAR DRIVERS FRAME SNAPPED IN HALF. BROKE IN FRONT OF REAR WHEEL. NO HELP FROM TOYOTA. SO IT SITS IN DRIVEWAY. RUMOR HAS IT A RECALL IS ON WAY.
THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY THEN THE GEARS WERE MOVED WHILE HAVING FOOT ON BRAKES HOWEVER THE BREAKS WERE STUCK AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO BE STOPPED CAUSING IT TO RUN INTO THE HOUSE WHICH HAD CAUSED UNBELIEVABLE DAMAGE. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.
I PURCHASED A TOP OF THE LINE '04 TOYOTA SEQUOIA IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR FOR ALMOST 9K. IT HAS LESS THAN 110K MILES ON IT AND IN PRISTINE CONDITION. WE TOOK IT TO THE SHOP IN AUGUST BECAUSE WE THOUGHT IT NEEDED A FRONT END ALIGNMENT. NOPE! THIS WAS THE FRAME THAT WAS RECALLED UNDER THE TUNDRA TRUCKS FOR RUSTING OUT BECAUSE THE FRAMES WERE NOT BUILT CORRECTLY. NO WHERE IN MY RESEARCH DID THE RECALL MENTION THE SEQUOIAS. THE FRAME IS RUSTED SO BADLY THAT IT ISN'T EVEN SAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE. I HAVE BEEN TO KERRY TOYOTA IN FLORENCE KY, AND SPOKE WITH SEVERAL DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND KEEP BEING TOLD THERE IS NOTHING YOU TOYOTA CAN DO ABOUT IT BECAUSE THE PREVIOUS OWNER DIDN'T TAKE IT IN WHEN THE RECALL WAS ACTIVE AND HAVE THE SPECIAL SPRAY COATING SPRAYED ON TO THE FRAME. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS. YOU HAD A RECALL ON THESE FRAMES AND DIDN'T INCLUDE THE SEQUOIA MODEL NAME AND TOYOTA KNEW THESE FRAMES WOULD BECOME DANGEROUS AND DETRIMENTAL TO THE LIFE OF THE CAR. THIS ISN'T A FEW HUNDRED DOLLAR FIX WHICH WE COULD DEAL WITH, IT'S 7 THOUSAND OR MORE DOLLARS FIX AFTER I PAID ALMOST 9K FOR A CAR THAT HAD LESS THAN 110K MILES AND IS OTHERWISE IN PERFECT CONDITION. WHEN WE PURCHASED THE CAR YOU COULDN'T TELL THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED SO BAD BECAUSE SOMEONE HAD SPRAYED UNDERCOATING ALL OVER THE FRAME. THIS CAR AND THE CONDITION IT IS IN MINUS THE FRAME SHOULD LAST ANOTHER 200K MILES OR MORE. I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT, I SPENT ALL THAT MONEY ON IT AND I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT WITH EVERYONE WE HAVE SPOKEN TO NO ONE WANTS TO MAKE THIS RIGHT ESPECIALLY BECAUSE YOUR COMPANY KNEW HOW DETRIMENTAL AND DANGEROUS THIS FRAME IS, AND HERE I AM DRIVING MY CHILDREN AROUND IN IT. IT IS ATE UP WITH RUST SO BAD THAT IT CAN'T EVEN BE WELDED.

WE BOUGHT IT IN 2014 WITH 76K AND THE FRAME HAD RECENTLY BEEN COATED. SUPPOSEDLY IT WAS FROM TEXAS, AND WE LIVE IN NORTHERN MINNESOTA. THE FRAME LOOKED GOOD AND SEEMED SOLID, BUT WITHIN A YEAR OR TWO ALL OF THE COATING FELL OFF REVEALING VERY RUSTY METAL. BY 3 YEARS (2017) THERE WERE HOLES IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME MAINLY BEHIND THE FRONT TIRES AREA, AND THE REST OF THE FRAME IS ALSO QUITE RUSTY. I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT SWAY BAR END LINKS BUT THEY BROKE SOON AFTER AND KEPT BREAKING WITHIN A FEW MONTHS AFTER REPEATED REPLACEMENT DUE TO EXCESSIVE FRAME MOVEMENT. IT FEELS LESS SAFE WITHOUT A FUNCTIONAL SWAY BAR ATTACHED TO THE FRAME AND HAS MORE BODY ROLL WITH MORE RISK OF ROLLOVER. THE FRAME IS ROTTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT, AND THE RUST IS SPREADING LIKE CANCER IN THE SURROUNDING AREAS UNDERNEATH. THE BODY HAS ALMOST NO RUST AT ALL. I PARKED IT IN THE WINTERS TWICE NOW, HOPING TO BUY TIME. BUT I'M COUNTING THE DAYS THAT IT WILL BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE ANYMORE. I'M NOT EVEN SURE WHEN TO DETERMINE WHEN THAT WILL BE, AND AM HOPING IT DOESN'T HAVE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS LIKE OTHERS HAVE HAD WITH THE EARLIER SEQUOIAS. I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY WIFE AND PAID $16000 CASH FOR IT. WE'VE PUT ON 60K MILES BUT EXPECTED TO GET MANY MORE YEARS OUT OF IT BEING THAT IT IS SO SOLID AND RELIABLE OTHERWISE. THIS FRAME IS HORRIBLE, AND PROBABLY WOULD HAVE SHOWN ITSELF A PROBLEM SOONER, HAD IT NOT BEEN IN TEXAS MOST OF ITS PREVIOUS YEARS. IT IS WRONG THAT THE 01-04 YEARS ARE EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL THAT ONLY COVERED THE 05-08 MODELS, WHEN IT IS OBVIOUS THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTED THEN AS WELL BASED ON SO MANY SIMILAR REPORTS. TOYOTA GOT MONEY FROM THE FRAME MAKERS AND US CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE SEVERELY PREMATURELY RUSTING FRAMES, THAT WILL BE TAKING 10 OR MORE YEARS OFF THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE OTHERWISE. PLEASE ADDRESS AND TAKE THIS PROBLEM SERIOUSLY.
RUSTED FRAME, VERY CLOSE TO FAILING STATE SAFETY INSPECTION, FRAME WAS SPRAY PAINTED BY THE DEALAR THREE YEARS AGO UNDER TOYOTA FRAME RECALL, POORLY APPLIED PAINT PEELED OFF WITH-IN COUPLE OF MONTHS OF THE APPLICATION. NOW FRAME OF THE SUV IS SEVERELY RUSTED. IT PASSED THE SAFETY INSPECTION TODAY BUT INSPECTOR FOUND HOLES IN THE FRAME CAUSED BY THE RUST.
REAR HATCH HANDLE BREAKS PROBABLY DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN OF HANDLE, CABLE AND LATCH. FALURE HAPPENS WHEN OPENING REAR HATCH. VEHICLE STATIONARY. IF HANDLE BREAKS YOU ARE UNABLE TO ACCESS THE SPARE TIRE DUE TO WHERE THE CRANK MECANISM THAT LOWERS SPARE TIRE IS LOCATED. CLOSED DOOR HATCH BLOCKS ACCESS TO CRANK. NO OTHER ACCESS TO CRANK. ON THIS VEHICLE HANDLE HAS BROKEN 3 TIMES. ON OUR 2005 SEQUOIA IT HAS BROKEN 4 TIMES. TOYOTA PLASTIC HANDLE IS OBVIOUSLY WEEK SINCE IT BREAKS IN THE SAME SPOT EVERY TIME AT A REPLACEMENT COST AT THE DEALER OF $600.00 TO $850.00 EACH OCCASION. I AM UNABLE TO PROVIDE PICTURES AS THE BROKEN PARTS WERE DISPOSED OF.

THE SKID CONTROL LIGHT APPEARS ON THE DASHBOARD SOMETIMES WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY, AND IT IS A BAD UNSAFE FEELING WHILE DRIVING. I DRIVE THE CITY STREETS DAILY AND OCCASIONALLY USE THE FREEWAYS. I WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK HAS A DEFECTIVE SKID CONTROL ECU. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL FOR CONSUMERS SEEING THAT THIS CAN CAUSE HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS ON THE ROAD. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT MANY OTHER CONSUMERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS VERY ISSUE. I ALSO SEE THAT 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIAS HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. THIS SHOULD HAVE EXTENDED TO LATER MODELS OF SEQUOIAS AS WELL. I DEFINITELY THINK A RECALL SHOULD OCCUR, AND CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE TAKEN CARE OF IN A DEALERSHIP SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THIS DEFECT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT.

RECENTLY I BROUGHT IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS INFORMED THE FRAME WAS ROTTED SIGNIFICANTLY AND MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO DRIVE. I THEN CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY PARTICULAR MODEL IS NOT INCLUDED IN THEIR VERY LARGE AND EXPENSIVE DEFECTIVE FRAME RECALL.THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP CONCLUDED THAT THE FRAME IS INDEED DEFECTIVE, BUT UNTIL TOYOTA MOTOR CORP. ADMITS THERE IS A PROBLEM, I WILL BE FORCED TO USE A POTENTIALLY UNSAFE VEHICLE AS WE AREN'T ABLE TO AFFORD A REPLACEMENT AT THIS TIME. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION.
