RECEIVED NOTICE OF RECALL FOR FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG IN MAY 2015; TOYOTA HAS STILL NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM AND RECOMMENDED NO USE OF FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BECAUSE OF SAFETY. IT IS NOW ~8 MONTHS LATER AND NO RESOLVE. ALSO, TAILGATE WIPERS, WINDOW AND WIPER FLUID SYSTEM NOT OPERATIONAL (SINCE 2008) DESPITE ALL GOOD FUSES IN 4 COMPARTMENTS.

STATING THAT THEY ARE UP TO 2002 FOR THIS MODEL IS A GREAT INCONVENIENCE WHEN PURCHASING A VEHICLE FOR ITS SUPPOSED SAFETY FEATURES.

APPARENTLY DOES NOT APPLY TO OUR TOYOTA SEQUOIA PURCHASED IN SAN DIEGO, CA. REPRESENTATIVE WITH DOT WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS. THANK YOU *TR
I AM PART OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG RECALL FOR 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIAS. AS A CONSUMER, I HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG FOR ALMOST 12 MONTHS AND I AM JUST NOW RECEIVING A LETTER FROM TOYOTA ABOUT IT. ALL THE LETTER SAYS IS THAT TOYOTA IS TRYING TO FIND PARTS WITH NO FURTHER INFORMATION OR DATE WHEN THE AIRBAG WILL BE REPLACED. IN THE MEANTIME, TOYOTA ASKS ME NOT TO HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I BELIEVE TOYOTA HAS NEGLIGENTLY STRETCHED THE RECALL NOTICE LONG PAST WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST DISCOVERED. TOYOTA STILL DOES NOT HAVE REPLACEMENT PARTS AND THE RECALL LETTER SETS NO TIMETABLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE REMEDY IS WOEFULLY INADEQUATE TO NOT USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. FRAME IS RUSTING BAD. LOOKED ONLINE AND SEE OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. NOTICED RECALL WAS DONE ON THE TACOMA.
WHEN MAKING LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS AT SLOW SPEED, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT BLINKS, SOMETIMES WITH BEEP ALARM AND SOMETIMES ENGAGES THE ABS SYSTEM. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC TO NOT BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE SINCE YOU LOSE CONTROL OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 3-5 SECONDS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A MOMENTARY LOSS OF POWER AND A GRINDING/VIBRATING OF THE BRAKES WHILE IN MOTION. THE TRAC OFF AND VSC TRAC WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON ALONG WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT. THE WARNING LIGHTS AND VIBRATING OF THE BRAKES COULD ONLY BE RESET BY TURNING THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. MULTIPLE INCIDENTS AND MULTIPLE TRIPS TO DEALERSHIP WITH NOTHING RESOLVED. ABS ACTIVATES WITH VSC LIGHTS AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN REVERSING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, DRIVING SLOWLY DOWN ROAD, ETC... NO REASON I CAN THINK OF FOR IT TO ENGAGE. VEHICLE MAKES A LOUD GRINDING SOUND AND FEELS LIKE IT WON'T STOP. VERY COMMON ISSUE FROM WHAT I SEE ALREADY REPORTED. YAW SENSOR REPLACED TO FIX ANOTHER VSC ISSUE WHEN MAKING LEFT U-TURNS...ALMOST GOT IN ACCIDENT WHEN THE BRAKES KEPT ME FROM COMPLETING A U-TURN WITH TRAFFIC COMING...LUCKILY I CONTINUED INTO DRIVEWAY WITHOUT INCIDENT. THIS HAPPENED AFTER THE ABOVE BUT THE ABOVE STILL CONTINUE TO THIS DAY SO IT WAS NOT THE CAUSE.

THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER, WHERE THE VALVE SPRING KEY WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,966. UPDATED 8/12/14*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE REPAIRS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE WERE DONE INCORRECTLY . THE VALVE KEY LOOSENED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MISFIRE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A FLAT TIRE AND WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH (TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE) DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE HATCH WINDOW DID NOT OPEN AND THE REAR WIPER DID NOT WORK DUE TO RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT THE HATCH MECHANISM WAS UPGRADED WITH A METAL PIECE TO PREVENT IT FROM RUSTING AGAIN. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO BUCKLE TWO DIFFERENT SEAT BELTS IN THE THIRD ROW, THE CLIPPING MECHANISM DOES NOT LATCH ONTO THE BELT LATCH. THIS LEAVES TWO SEATS IN THE REAR NON-FUNCTIONAL. *TT

WON'T PASS A STATE INSPECTION DUE TO FRAME ROT. NOT COVERED UNDER TOYOTA RECALL. I'VE OWNED FIVE TOYOTA'S WHICH LASTED 200,000+ MILES EACH. HERE AT 82,000 MILES ALREADY HOLES IN FRAME IS JUST PATHETIC. NOW I JUST GOT A PERFECTLY GOOD SEQUOIA MECHANICALLY AND COSMETICALLY BUT JUST SITTING BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD A $10,000 FRAME REPLACEMENT. *TR
THE SEQUOIA'S FRAME HAS EXCESSIVE RUST AND CORROSION.
AIR PUMP THAT CUTS ON FOR ONE MINUTE WHEN CAR IS FIRST STARTED, PUSHES AIR INTO STARTING SYSTEM TO INSURE ALL GAS IS BURNED COMPLETELY. TOOK IN FOR SERVICE AND TOLD BY DEALER A LITTLE PLASTIC FAN BLADE BREAKS INTO PCS. AND WERE STUCK IN VALVES MAKING CAR GO INTO "LIMP MODE". WHEN THIS HAPPENED CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE UP A HILL OR GO OVER 45 MPH. DEALER QUOTED $3500.00 AND SAID IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME TO THESE LITTLE PLASTIC FAN BLADES. I HAVE READ THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEMS ESPECIALLY IN THE TACOMA TRUCK LINE. I THINK DEALER SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO FIX THESE NO MATTER HOW MANY MILES ON CAR OR UP TO 10 YEARS. THEY SHOULD NOT BE MADE OF PLASTIC BEING SO CLOSE TO ALL THE HEAT IN AREA OF AIR PUMP. ME AND MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BEING ON INTERSTATE WHERE THE NEED TO GO OVER 45 MPH IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY OR GET REAR ENDED. THIS PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED BY LOOKING AT THE TACOMA WEB SITE, TOYOTA IS DRAGGING THEIR FEET, COVERING SOME PEOPLE AND I READ COVERING CARS IN CANADA BUT NOT IN USA. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED TO COVER COST. MOST OF THE COST IS LABOR FOR THIS 5 BUCK PLASTIC FAN BLADE.HIS IS UNACCEPTABLE TO HAVE TO PAY 3500.00 BUCKS FOR A BAD DESIGN. *TR

VEHICLE ACCELERATION STALLS FOR A FEW SECONDS WHEN TURNING RIGHT INTO TRAFFIC. THIS ISSUE IS THE SAME AS NHTSA 10V176000, BUT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS SAFETY RECALL. THIS ISSUE IS VERY HAZARDOUS TO DRIVERS.
ABS, TRAC, VSC AND BRAKE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ALL SIGNALED FAULT CODES. CODES ARE #1251 AND #1223, AGAIN, THIS AFTER COMPUTER MODULE WAS REPLACED AT FULL COST TO THE CONSUMER $1,059. THE SAME FAULT HAS RE-OCCURRED IN LESS THAN 6 (SIX) MONTHS OF HAVING REPLACED THE ABS, TRAC, VSC COMPUTER MODULE. *TR

VEHICLE HAS ALOT RUST UNDER THE BODY. I SEE A CAMPAIGN IS ON FOR VEHICLES UP TO 2004 BUT THEY NEED TO INCLUDE 2006 SEQUOIAS. *TR
I HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM MY FRONT RIGHT WHEEL AREA WHEN I WOULD GO OVER A BUMP. EVEN WHEN I WAS GOING VERY SLOW OVER A SPEED BUMP. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL REPAIR GARAGE AND HE TOLD ME IT SOUNDED LIKE MY STRUT WAS STICKING. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE HIM REPLACE MY FRONT STRUTS. WHEN I RETURNED ON 4/26/13 HE TOLD ME THAT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT RIGHT STRUT WAS BROKEN OFF & THAT MY FRONT LEFT STRUT HAD A CRACK IN IT & WOULD HAVE BROKEN. HE KEPT THE PART & SHOWED ME WHERE IT WAS BROKEN & HOW IT GOES TOGETHER. HE SAID IT WAS ONLY THE WEIGHT THAT WAS HOLDING IT ON & HE COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT IT DID NOT SLIDE OFF. THEY CHECK TO SEE IF THIS WAS PART OF A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE & DID NOT FIND ONE. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I REPORT IT BECAUSE IT WAS DANGEROUS & VERY RARE THAT BOTH STRUTS WOULD BE EFFECTED. CODES C1223 (ABS CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION), C1247 (STROKE SENSOR), AND C1251 (PUMP MOTOR IS LOCKED/ OPEN CIRCUIT FAULT) HAD TO REPLACE VSC MODULE/COMPUTER AT MY OWN COST. *TR
DRIVER'S SEAT BECAME LOSE AND UPON INSPECTION AT TOYOTA DEALER, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE SEAT FRAME HAD FAILED. IT ACTUALLY IS BROKEN AND THE ENTIRE FRAME MUST BE REPLACED. *TR
MY TOYOTA SEQUOIA IS A 2006 4X4 AND HAS EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST AT THE WELD SEEMS AND ALL OVER THE REAR AXLE HOUSING AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT TOYOTA HAS STARTED TO RECALL AND REPLACE THESE FRAMES THAT ARE RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I AM WORRIED ABOUT THIS RUST AT THE FRAME WELD AND THAT SNOW AND ROAD SALT AND ICE MELTER ARE CAUSING MY FRAME TO RUST FROM THE INSIDE OUT. MY SEQUOIA WAS ORIGINALLY LICENSED IN KANSAS AND THEY USE HEAVY ROAD SALT. I LIVE IN COLORADO AND THEY HAVE A HEAVY USE OF MAG CHLORIDE, WHICH IS A MAJOR RUST FACTOR. THE TOYOTA FRAME LOOKS LIKE IT WAS NEVER PROPERLY TREATED TO PREVENT THIS TYPE OF RUSTING. I WOULD LIKE MY FRAME TO ALSO BE REPLACED AND COVERED BY TOYOTA UNDER THIS RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HER THAT THE TRANSMISSION CROSS MEMBER WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE CROSS MEMBER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,500. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,800. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

BRAKES FAIL ON OCCASION AND VSC LIGHT, TRAC OFF LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT COME ON. HARD TO STOP VEHICLE. TURNING CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN SEEM TO TEMPORARILY SOLVE THE PROBLEM. SEEMS AS IF THIS IS A COMMON ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE 2006 SEQUOIA BASED ON PREVIOUS POSTS. TAKEN TO DEALER ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY PROBLEM. TODAY 5/23 DEALER STATED ITS A VACUUM AND REPAIR PART IS APPROX. $1000. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE LOSS OF STOPPING POWER WITH SUCH A LARGE VEHICLE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. AT LEAST TWELVE COMPLAINTS OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN FILED. *TR
AFTER PUTTING GAS IN THE VEHICLE, I PULLED AWAY FROM THE GAS STATION AND WHEN I CAME TO A STOP SIGN BEFORE ENTERING THE MAIN THOROUGHFARE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SO HARD TO DEPRESS THAT I ALMOST HAD TO STAND ON IT TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP, AND NEARLY WAS UNABLE TO BEFORE PLOWING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE "TRAC OFF", "VSC TRAC", AND BRAKE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WERE ALL ILLUMINATED. IT WAS A REAL PANIC SITUATION BECAUSE IT WAS TOTALLY UNEXPECTED AND MY WIFE AND 2 YOUNG DAUGHTERS WERE IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. I AM AN 20 YEAR + ASE MASTER AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN WITH OVER 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND VISUALLY CHECKED THE BRAKE SYSTEM AS WELL AS I COULD ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SAW NO OBVIOUS CAUSE FOR THE ISSUE. THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET THE WARNING LIGHTS OFF AND THE BRAKES TO WORK WAS TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE IGNITION. AFTER THAT, THE VEHICLE WENT THE REST OF THE DAY (140 MILES) WITH NO PROBLEM. I AM NOW AFRAID TO LET MY WIFE AND KIDS DRIVE THIS VEHICLE UNTIL I FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. I DO SEE WHERE THERE ARE A FEW SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, AND A COUPLE THAT ARE PRETTY MUCH IDENTICAL TO MINE. THIS VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH ONLY 52,000+ MILES ON IT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT OF KILLED DUE TO THIS ISSUE. THERE SHOULD DEFINITELY BE SOME KIND OF SAFETY RECALL ISSUED. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP AND RESTARTED THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND IT MADE A LOUD NOISE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ONCE AGAIN ON A SEPARATE OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS THE AIR PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000.

ALMOST EVERY TIME I GO OVER A BUMP OR DIP AT 2-3 MPH THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES UP, THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN AND I AM UNABLE TO ACCELERATE FOR A FEW SECONDS, THEN ALL COMES BACK TO NORMAL. IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY AND A FEW TIMES I NEARLY GOT IN THE ACCIDENT DUE TO UNEXPECTED SLOW DOWN. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WITH 86,000 MILES ON IT AND I AM PUTTING MY THIRD SET OF TIRES ON IT. I KEEP MY CAR MAINTAINED IN ALL ASPECTS INCLUDING TIRE ROTATION AND BALANCE AND ALIGNMENTS. THE WEAR ON MY TIRES IS NOT FROM NEGLECT. THEY ARE ALSO HIGH QUALITY TIRES, NOT CHEAP. I HAVE HAD EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT AT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. HE REAR DOOR LATCH FAILED, MAKING THE DOOR INOPERABLE. USE OF THE DOOR FOR ENTRY AND EXIT WAS IMPOSSIBLE, CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. REPAIR OF THIS LATCH FAILURE IS EXPENSIVE ($400 - $700) AND INCONVENIENT. THE DESIGN OF THE PART AND THE MATERIAL USED (PLASTIC) APPEARS TO BE AT FAULT. A HEAVIER DUTY METAL PART IS NOW AVAILABLE FROM AFTER MARKET PARTS DEALERS.
