THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES A TICKING OR CLUNKING SOUND AS IT IS TURNED BACK AND FORTH OR WHEN A BUMP AFFECTS ONE OF THE FRONT TIRES WHICH NATURALLY MOVES THE STEERING WHEEL ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. THERE ALSO SEEMS TO BE EXCESSIVE "SLOP" IN THE STEERING WHEEL MOVEMENT. DEALER HAS LOOKED AT IT AND SAID IT IS A FAULTY "INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT" AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A KNOWN TOYOTA ISSUE WITH OTHER MODELS (2004-2011?). THERE ARE TWO U-JOINTS ON THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. ONE OR BOTH OF THEM IS WEARING OUT, CAUSING THE SOUND AND EXCESSIVE PLAY. THIS IS A DESIGN ISSUE AFFECTING THE STEERING WHEEL OF A MOTOR VEHICLE. I THOUGHT I SHOULD RECORD THIS COMPLAINT.
SRS WARNING LIGHT CONTINUED FLASHING AFTER START UP. DEALER CONFIRMED ERROR CODE B0111. PASSENGERS AIR BAG AND HARNESS NEEDS REPLACED. THESE ITEMS ARE COVERED WITH "UPDATED PARTS" IN A TOYOTA TSB 0162-10, DATED 02/27/2008, COVERING SIENNA MODEL YEARS 2004 THROUGH 2008. OVER ONE HUNDRED SIMILAR OCCURRENCES ARE FOUND ON VARIOUS SAFETY RELATED AND OWNER BASED INTERNET SITES. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS OEM DEFECT OF A CRITICAL VEHICLE SYSTEM THAT TOYOTA HAS BEEN AWARE OF FOR SOME TIME NOW.
NOTICED A VIBRATION STARTING ON A 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE. INITIALLY THOUGHT IT TO BE TIRE RELATED. UPON INVESTIGATION NOTICED THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WAS TOO HOT TO TOUCH. REVEALED THAT THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY HAD SEIZED AND WAS CAUSING THE BRAKES TO OVERHEAT (BLUE DICK AND CYLINDER). TOYOTA CLAIMS THEY HAVE SEEN THIS ON MANY SIENNA'S AND THEY REGULARLY LUBE THE SLIDES THAT MOUNT THE WHEEL CYLINDER. MINE HAD NOT SEEN LUBE. BRAKE PADS ON THE REMAINDER OF THE CAR WERE ~ 50%. I BELIEVE HAD I NOT FOUND THIS, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A FIRE (IT WAS THAT HOT). NOW I'M STUCK ON MY $ TO PAY ALMOST $1000 FOR NEW BRAKES (OPTED TO OVERHAUL THE OTHER THREE TO ELIMINATE THE SAME PROBLEM ELSEWHERE). *TR
2007 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE AT THE THREE YEAR AGE, THE REAR BUNGEE'S THAT MOVE THE REAR HATCH UP AND DOWN BEGAN TO FAIL. TOYOTA RELUCTANTLY (OUT OF WARRANTY) REPLACED. PRIOR TO, THE HATCH WOULD FALL CONTINUALLY AND STRIKE OUR HEADS. IN THE SIX MONTHS SINCE, THE HATCH HAS STAYED UP BUT I FEEL THE NEW BUNGEE'S ARE TOO STRONG. NOW THE AUTOMATIC CLOSING FEATURE HAS FAILED. YOU HAVE TO REALLY PULL ON THE HATCH TO CLOSE. TOYOTA DENIES ANY "HISTORY" OF ISSUES WITH THE HATCH SYSTEM ON OUR VEHICLE. *TR
REMOTE CONTROLLED REAR VISION MIRROR QUIT FOLDING, AGAINST OR AWAY AS DESIGNED. SERVICE WRITER AT TOYOTA REFUSED REPAIR UNLESS OWNER PAID $450. REPAIRS NOT PERFORMED SINCE MIRRORS REMAINED FOCUSED. IN JUNE 2011, THE MIRROR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR BEGAN FOLDING BACK AND FORTH WITH THE WIND, ABOUT AN INCH FROM MECHANICAL FAILURE. MIRROR DESIGNED WITHOUT A WAY TO STOP MIRROR FROM FOLDING. VEHICLE HAS ZERO ACCIDENTS, MIRROR HAS NEVER BEEN DAMAGED OR REPAIRED AND FOLDING OPTION RARELY USED SINCE NEW. HOW MANY TOYOTA'S ARE BEING DRIVEN WITH UNRELIABLE VISION DUE TO FAULTY MIRRORS THAT WILL NOT LOCK INTO PLACE?
MY TOYOTA MINIVAN 07 SLID ON ICE/SNOW INTO INTERSECTION TWICE THIS WINTER AND UP ONTO SOMEONES LAWN TODAY. IT FELT LIKE THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES WERE ACTIVATED AFTER I SLID A BIT, WHILE ON A CURVE, I LOST COMPLETE CONTROL. I WAS GOING VERY SLOW FOOT, OFF HTE PEDAL ON A CURVE. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE AUTOMATIC DOOR NOT OPENING WITH ANY OF THE BUTTONS ON THE INSIDE OF VEHICLE. BUT IT WILL OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE, BY PULLING ON THE HANDLE. POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD OF NOT BEING ABLE TO EXIT VEHICLE IN DURING AN EMERGENCY. DIFFICULT FOR YOUNG CHILDREN TO OPEN DOOR MANUALLY. WE TOOK IT TO WILSON TOYOTA. THE DIAGNOSED A $50.00 PART. $90.00/ HR RATE. THE PART WAS ORDERED, THEN SCHEDULED FOR REPAIR. THE ACTUALLY CHARGE WAS 696.08 . THEY DECIDED TO CHANGE EVERYTHING, TO COVER THEIR LIABILITY NO DOUBT. THE REAR HATCH RUBBER DOOR HANDLE MELTED DUE TO HEAT DURING THE SUMMER. I HAD TO COVER THE DOOR HANDLE WITH PLASTIC IN ORDER TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH. DURING COLD WEATHER, THE REAR HATCH CANNOT BE OPENED DUE TO THE MELTING DOOR HANDLE. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE DOOR HANDLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A PRETTY HIGH COST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING THE MELTING DOOR HANDLE FOR THE YEAR MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PRESSING THE TRUNK RELEASE AND PUTTING HER GROCERIES IN THE VEHICLE, THE TRUNK AUTOMATICALLY RELEASED AND SHE INJURED HER NOSE WHILE SHE ATTEMPTED TO MOVE HER HEAD OUT OF THE WAY OF THE TRUNK LID. PREMATURE FAILURE OF STRUTS FOR AUTOMATIC BACK HATCH OF 07 TOYOTA SIENNA MINIVAN PREVENTS REAR HATCH FROM OPENING FULLY, CAUSING USERS TO HIT HEAD ON HATCH WHEN TRYING TO ACCESS REAR OF VAN. VEHICLE HAD APPROX. 60K MILES AND LESS THAN 4 YEARS OLD. REPAIRS TO REPLACE STRUTS COST $300; NO GUARANTEE THEY WILL NOT PREMATURELY FAIL/WEAR OUT. *TR
REAR HATCH DID NOT STAY OPEN AND FELL ON MY WIFE'S HEAD AND INJURED HER. *TR
2007 TOYOTA SIENNA. CONSUMER WRITES REGARDING SPARE TIRE RECALL *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HIS WIFE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL. HOWEVER, WHEN SHE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE HOME, HE NOTICED THE SPARE TIRE HAD BEEN PLACED IN THE REAR PART OF THE VEHICLE AND SECURED WITH A STRAP. SO, WHEN THE REAR SEAT WAS PLACED IN THE STORED POSITION, THE SPARE TIRE WOULD BE PLACED ON TOP OF THE STORED SEATS. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER NEVER MENTIONED THE CONDITION OF THE CARRIER AND NEVER MENTIONED THE TIRE WOULD BE PLACED IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED THEY COMPLETELY ALTERED THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT HIS CONSENT AND IT ALSO CREATED A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE, WHICH MEANT THE TIRE WAS NOT PROPERLY SECURED IN THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE CONSUMER CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, HE WAS INFORMED THE PARTS TO PROPERLY FIX THE PROBLEM WERE NOT AVAILABLE. *JB

I OWN TWO SUNSHINE KIDS SUPERLATCH RADIANS (65SL) [MODEL: US16500, DOM 12/09, SERIAL # 12090124403603]. I HAVE INSTALLED THEM BOTH REAR FACING AND FORWARD FACING IN MY 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA WITH LATCH. INITIALLY, THE INSTALLS APPEAR TO BE TIGHT AND NOT MOVE MORE THAN 1 INCH IN ANY DIRECTION. THE LATCH STRAP ON BOTH CAR SEATS "SELF" LOOSEN WHILE THE CHILD RIDES IN THE SEAT. I AM ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE WITH EVERY USE REGARDLESS IF SEAT IS REAR FACING OR FORWARD FACING. I HAVE CONTACTED SUNSHINE KIDS TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND WAS NOT GIVEN A SOLUTION TO MY COMPLAINT. I AM CURRENTLY CERTIFIED AS A CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY TECHNICIAN. MY FEAR IS, THE SEAT APPEARS TO BE CORRECTLY INSTALLED AND COMPATIBLE WITH THE VEHICLE BUT THEN IT BECOMES COMPROMISED DURING/AFTER USE. ISSUE: ADJUSTMENT BUCKLE ON THE LATCH STRAP LOOSENS OVER TIME. *TR
THE ORIGINAL BRAKES (FRONT) WERE REPLACED IN 2010. AFTER THAT I STARTED GETTING NOISE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. SEVERAL VISITS I REQUESTED THEY REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS AGAIN. AFTER A LITTLE TIME THE NOISE RETURNED. PERFORMANCE TOYOTA IN FAIRFIELD, OHIO COULD NOT REPAIR THE BRAKES TO STOP THE NOISE. I THEN WENT TO TIRE DISCOUNTERS IN HAMILTON, OHIO. AGAIN AFTER SEVERAL VISITS THE NOISE IN THE FRONT BRAKES REMAINED. I PAID FOR SERVICE TO THE BRAKES. I PAID FOR A LUBRICANT TO BE PLACED ON THE BRAKES. AGAIN NOISE RETURNED. AGAIN NOISE IN REAR BRAKES GETTING REALLY BAD NOW CAN?T HEAR THE NOISE IN THE FRONT ANYMORE DUE TO DROWN OUT BY THE REAR. PICKED UP DAUGHTERS/FRIENDS FROM SCHOOL, EXPLAINED SORRY FOR THE NOISE I HAVE IT CHECKED OUT THEY SAY NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM. DAUGHTER SAYS MOM YOU THINK THE SOUND IS BAD INSIDE THE VAN YOU SHOULD BE OUTSIDE WHEN YOU DRIVE UP IT IS REALLY BAD. 10/18/2014 RETURNED TO PERFORMANCE TOYOTA IN FAIRFIELD. I EXPLAINED THE ABOVE ABOUT MY BRAKES AND THE NOISE STILL PRESENT ON MY VAN. I ASKED SERVICE WRITER IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON A THE BRAKES ISSUE. SHE SAID NO THERE WAS NO RECALL. AND I SEE YOU HAVE HAD BRAKE ISSUES SINCE 2010. FINALLY SHE STATED YOU KNOW WE HAVE HAD ISSUES WHEN THE ORIGINAL FACTORY BRAKES ARE REPLACED WITH ?AFTER MARKET BRAKES? THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH NOISE ON SIENNA?S/PATHFINDERS YOU KNOW LARGER VEHICLES, BUT NOT ALL OF THEM JUST A FEW LIKE YOURS. SHE STATED DUE TO COST THEY USED AFTER MARKET BRAKES AND ONLY FEW HAVE ISSUES. *TR
9/26 APPROXIMATELY 4:30 P.M. 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA SUDDENLY ACCELERATED IN DRIVEWAY AS I WAS TURNING LEFT INTO GARAGE. I COULD NOT STOP VEHICLE AND IT CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE. THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE VEHICLE FROM CRASHING THROUGH THE GARAGE WAS THE BACK LEFT WHEEL HITTING THE DOOR FRAME AND METAL RAIL OF THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER, PULLING IT DOWN ONTO THE CAR. THE ENTIRE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED ALONG WITH THE SIDE OF THE GARAGE. WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW AND HAVE HAD NO PREVIOUS MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH IT. WE CONTACTED TOYOTA ON 9/26, AND 9/27. THEY GAVE US A CASE MANAGER AND CASE NUMBER AND ON 9/29 STATED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD BE APPOINTED TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE IN 10-14 DAYS AND IT WOULD TAKE ANOTHER 30 DAYS FOR THE INSPECTION. THEY STATED IF THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED, IT MIGHT BE CONSIDERED "TAMPERED WITH". WE HAD TO HAVE OUR GARAGE REPAIRED, SO HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ON 10/1 WITH INSTRUCTIONS NOT TO START VEHICLE OR DO ANYTHING TO IT. OUR CAR INSURANCE ADJUSTER WOULD NOT GIVE AN ESTIMATE ON THE VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS LODGED IN THE SIDE OF THE GARAGE AND FELT THAT IT MIGHT INCUR ADDITIONAL DAMAGE WHEN PULLED OUT IF THE OVERHEAD DOOR FELL ON IT. CONTRACTOR WAS PRESENT AT TOWING TO REMOVE OVERHEAD DOOR AND JACK UP DOOR FRAME. $3,500 DAMAGE TO GARAGE. CAR ADJUSTER WILL DO TO DEALERSHIP TO GIVE ESTIMATE ON VEHICLE . I WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT AND WAS NOT HURT. WE HAVE BEEN PULLING IN THIS GARAGE SINCE 1983 AND WITH MINI-VANS SINCE 1987 AND KNOW HOW SLOWLY YOU HAVE TO GO - 4 TO 5 MILES AN HOUR OR SLOWER TO MAKE THE ALMOST 90 DEGREE TURN. IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AS I TURNED. HOW DO WE GET TOYOTA TO EXPEDITE THIS? MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE JOBS IN DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES AND NEED OUR VEHICLE. WE WANT THEM TO EXAMINE, ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM, PUT ON RECALL LIST AND COVER OUR EXPENSES. WE FEEL WAITING 2 WEEKS FOR A REPRESENTATIVE TO COME AND ANOTHER 30 DAYS FOR A DETERMINATION IS NOT A TIMELY MANNER. *TR
MY NAME IS [XXX] AND I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA WITH AN AIRBAG LIGHT THAT INTERMITTENTLY COMES ON AND OFF. AS A MECHANIC, I RESEARCHED MY AIRBAG LIGHT DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE B0111 OPEN IN SIDE SQUIB RH CIRCUIT AND THERE IS A TSB ON REPAIRING THE AIRBAG LIGHT. IT SAYS TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY IN THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT. AS MECHANIC, I KNOW THAT WHEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON, THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. THEREFORE, I DON'T SEE WHY A SAFETY ISSUE SUCH AS THIS IS NOT A RECALL. SO INSTEAD OF A RECALL, I MUST NOW SPEND $900 ON JUST THE AIRBAG, NEVERMIND THE COST TO INSTALL IT? I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT I SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH A COSTLY REPAIR DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT I COULD NOT HAVE PREVENTED. THE TSB NUMBER IS T-SB-0252-08 FROM MY REPAIR PROGRAM, MITCHELL ON DEMAND AND IT SAYS TOYOTA'S REFERENCE NUMBER IS [XXX]. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY FAILURES, BUT THE DEALER PLACED THE TIRE IN THE CENTER REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS BEFORE THE PART WOULD ARRIVE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,322. UPDATED 1/19/2010 *CN THE CONSUMER SOLD THE VEHICLE ON 12/28/10. TOYOTA HAS CREATED A HAZARDOUS AND DANGEROUS SITUATION BY NOT COMPLETING A RECALL. THEY HAVE REMOVED THE SPARE TIRE FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY MINIVAN DURING A AOE RECALL, AND PLACED IT UNSECURED IN THE BACK OF THE CAR. THIS WILL NOW BECOME A DEADLY "MISSILE" IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT OR ANY MANEUVER AT SPEED. THE RECALL WILL NOT BE COMPLETED UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST (AS PER TOYOTA). THIS IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF TOYOTA'S DISREGARD FOR SAFETY AND INABILITY TO RESOLVE DESIGN PROBLEMS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THE SAFETY FEATURE ON THE AUTOMATIC PASSENGER SIDING DOOR WOULD NOT FUNCTION. THE SLIDING DOOR CLOSED ABRUPTLY ONTO THE UPPER ARM OF THE PASSENGER EXITING THE VEHICLE. IMMEDIATELY, THE AUTOMATIC DOOR MECHANISM WAS ENGAGED AND THE DOOR RELEASED OPEN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON TWO DIFFERENT TIMES. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURY TO THE UPPER ARM AREA. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED OR DIAGNOSED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR RECALL 10V160000 (STRUCTURE) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER TOOK THE SPARE TIRE FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, PLACED IT INSIDE THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND TIED IT DOWN WITH A BUNGEE CORD. THE CONTACT DID NOT FEEL THAT THE REPAIR WAS ADEQUATE OR THAT THE BUNGEE CORD WOULD HOLD THE TIRE SECURELY. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 32,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 27,000.
THE INSTALLED DVD NAVIGATION SYSTEM IN OUR SIENNA HAS FAILED. THIS IN IT'S SELF IS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN, BUT IT'S FAILURE HAS ALSO CAUSED THE BACK-UP CAMERA TO BECOME INOPERATIVE. WE USE THIS EXTENSIVELY AND THE SUDDEN LOSS OF IT IS ALMOST AS BAD AS LOOSING ALL YOUR REAR VIEW MIRRORS. *TR
RUBBER COATING ON HANDLE ON REAR DOOR LIFT MELTED APPROXIMATELY 5 YEARS AGO...WAS ACTUALLY OOZING DOWN. LEAVES FINGERS WITH BLACK GUNK ON THEM THAT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO WASH OFF WHENEVER OPENING THIS HATCH. NOTIFIED DEALER BUT WAS LEFT WITH "TOUGH LUCK" (IN MY WORDS). I WAS PULLING UP INTO MY GARAGE DRIVEWAY, AND APPLIED THE BRAKE AND THEN WITHOUT ANY KIND OF WARNING MY TOYOTA 2007 SIENNA STARTED ACCELERATING AND I COULDN'T STOP IT, EVEN THOUGH I WAS PRESSING ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD. IT RAN THROUGH MY GARAGE DOOR AND TOOK OFF HALF OF THE GARAGE HOUSING ON THE LEFT SIDE, AND THEN IT RAMMED INTO THE WALL SEPARATING THE GARAGE FROM THE HOUSE. OUT OF DESPERATION I SHIFTED FROM DRIVE TO PARK AND THAT FINALLY STOPPED THE VAN. SO FAR WE ARE AWAITING AN INVESTIGATION, IN THE MEANTIME THOUGH OUR LIVES ARE IN LIMBO BECAUSE OF THIS. *TR

WHILE HAVING SERVICE PERFORMED ON MY 2007 SIENNA THIS PAST SUMMER, I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT THE SPARE TIRE ON MY VAN NEEDED TO BE REMOVED BECAUSE OF A DEFECTIVE CABLE THAT WOULD ALLOW IT TO DROP TO THE ROADWAY FROM THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VAN'S FRAME. AT THAT TIME I WAS TOLD THAT A RECALL WOULD SOON BE ANNOUNCED SO THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A REPLACEMENT CABLE AND COULD ONCE AGAIN DRIVE WITH A SPARE TIRE. IT HAS BEEN SEVERAL MONTHS NOW SINCE MY SPARE TIRE WAS REMOVED, AND I HAVE RECEIVED NO INFORMATION WHATSOEVER FROM TOYOTA REGARDING THIS ISSUE. I AM FRANKLY UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING WITHOUT A SPARE TIRE AND CONSIDER THIS A PERSONAL SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION WAS DOING WHAT FELT LIKE "NEUTRAL DROPS" AT LOW SPEEDS, WHERE I WOULD SHIFT INTO DRIVE, GET THE "CLUNK" THAT I NORMALLY ASSOCIATE WITH THE TRANSMISSION DROPPING INTO FIRST, THEN DEPRESS THE GAS SLIGHTLY TO START MOVING. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE ENGINE WOULD REV SUDDENLY, AND THEN CATCH FIRST, WHICH AS YOU KNOW, CAUSES A SUDDEN LURCH OF THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SINCE THE ENGINE HAD BEEN REVVING JUST BEFORE IT CAUGHT. IT WOULD ALSO OCCASIONALLY JUST "LOSE" THE GEAR WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. ON 6/12/2010 THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT ON ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME (WITH MY FAMILY) ON THE FWY (NORTH 5) FROM LEGOLAND. I HAVE TO ACROSS 5 LANES TO GET TO THE SHOULDER. I GOT THE VAN BRAND NEW ON 3/28/2007 (W/ONLY3 MILES ON THE VAN) FROM CARSON TOYOTA, CA...I PAID $28000 W/PACKAGE3 (OUT THE DOOR PRICE)...AS OF 6/12/2010 THE VAN HAS UNDER 14,000MILES. THE TOYOTA DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION WITH NO CHARGE (STILL UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY). TRANSMISSIONS AREN'T SUPPOSED TO GO OUT THAT QUICKLY, IT DEFINITELY SEEMS TO BE A QUALITY CONTROL ISSUE. UNDER 14,000 MILES THERE HAS BEEN NO SERVICE DUE SO IT'S NOT A MATTER OF MISSING SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A VERY VALID SAFETY CONCERN. *TR

THE DEALER ALSO PERFORMED A STEERING FLUSH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 45,000.
LEFT SIDE REAR MECHANISM BROKE. CABLE SNAPPED ON THE SLIDING DOOR. ALMOST HIT MY CHILD IN THE FACE. POWER SLIDING NO LONGER OPERABLE MUST OPEN MANUALLY WHICH IS VERY HARD FOR A CHILD. COST TO REPAIR IS $2000.00 BY THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. TOYOTA DID COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY AFTER I CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE NUMBER BECAUSE IT WAS JUST DAYS AFTER THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. 8/11 RIGHT SIDE REAR MECHANISM BROKE (OTHER DOOR). ENGINE/POWERTRAIN HESITATES FOR 1-3 SECONDS WHEN ACCELERATING SLOWLY, OR ACCELERATING QUICKLY AFTER SLOWING DOWN SUCH AS WHEN SLOWING DOWN IN AN INTERSECTION, MAKING A TURN, OR IN SLOW TRAFFIC. ENGINE HAS PISTON SLAP FOR 3-5 MINUTES AFTER A COLD START IN WEATHER BELOW 40 F. THE SLAP BECOMES LOUDER WITH COLDER TEMPS. SHIFTING INTO GEAR WITH A COLD ENGINE CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO LURCH DUE TO HIGH IDLE. DRIVER MUST HAVE FOOT FIRMLY ON BRAKE BEFORE SHIFTING INTO GEAR. PROBLEM DIMINISHES IF ENGINE IS ALLOWED TO WARM FOR 45-60 SECONDS. WHEN PARKING, THE DRIVER MUST KEEP THE BRAKE FULLY DEPRESSED, SHIFT INTO PARK, PAUSE 1-2 SECONDS BEFORE RELEASING BRAKE. IT SEEMS THERE IS A BRIEF DELAY BETWEEN GEAR LEVER BEING PLACED INTO PARK, AND POWERTRAIN ACTUALLY GOING INTO NEURAL/PARK POSITION. RELEASING THE BRAKE TOO SOON WILL ALLOW VEHICLE TO ROLL AHEAD 3-6 INCHES. *TR

2007 TOYOTA SIENNA - EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR. I HAVE 83,000 MILES ON MY SIENNA. DURING THAT TIME, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE TIRES 5 TIMES WHICH AVERAGES ABOUT 17,000 MILES PER SET OF TIRES. I HAVE VOICE MY COMPLAINT TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND TOYOTA CORP AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS NO SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. THE LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THIS IS COMMON WITH SIENNA'S AND THAT THEY RARELY SEE A VEHICLE WITH MORE THAN 20,000 MILES ON A SET OF TIRES. THE TIRES WILL START TO 'CUP' AT 10,000 MILES REGARDLESS OF FREQUENCY OF ROTATION. THE TIRE'S WEAR RAPIDLY ON THE INSIDE TREAD WALL AND REQUIRE VERY CLOSE MONITORING. AT APPROXIMATELY 1500 ON 16 MAR 2010, I USED THE REMOTE TO OPEN THE POWER LIFTGATE ON MY 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE MINIVAN. WHILE LOADING A CHILDREN'S TABLE, THE LIFTGATE STARTED TO CLOSE ON ITS OWN. I TRIED TO PREVENT THE GATE FROM CLOSING AS MY TWO YEAR OLD SON WAS IN THE PATH OF CLOSURE. I HAD TO HOLD THE GATE OPEN AS MUCH AS I COULD AND GRAB HIM AND PULL HIM DOWN AND AWAY TO PREVENT THE DOOR FROM SHUTTING AND POSSIBLY INJURING HIM. IN THE PROCESS, I STRAINED MY BACK. THE SAFETY FUNCTION OF THE POWER LIFTGATE SEEMED TO HAVE STOPPED FUNCTIONING AS WELL. SINCE THE INITIAL FAILURE EARLIER TODAY, THE PROBLEM WITH THE LIFTGATE OCCURS WHENEVER THE POWER FUNCTION IS USED TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE LIFTGATE OPENS AND CONTINUES UNTIL THE LIFTGATE REACHES ITS MAXIMUM OPENING THEN CLOSES ITSELF AUTOMATICALLY. WHEN THE POWER FUNCTION IS DISABLED, THE LIFTGATE FAILS TO REMAIN. OPEN. I HAVE NOT DONE ANY MAINTENANCE OR REPLACED ANY PARTS NOR HAVE I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN REGARD TO THIS PROBLEM. ON MARCH 12. 2010 I WAS TRAVELING TO ARCHES NATIONAL PARK WITH FOUR OTHER PASSENGERS. ON THE WAY, WE DECIDED TO STOP BY BRYCE CANYON UTAH. I WAS DRIVING A 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA THROUGH 26 S. MAIN STREET BRYCE CANYON CITY. BECAUSE OF BAD WEATHER CONDITION. I HAD PUT THE CAR IN GEAR 3 AND WAS DRIVING 5 MILES PER HOUR. SUDDENLY I HEARD THE ENGINE ACCELERATE AND FELT THE CAR PUSH FORWARD. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, I WAS DRIVING ON A SNOWY ROAD AND WAS GOING AT 30 MPH IN A 45MPH ZONE AND THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED YELLOW. I TRIED TO STOP BUT THE CAR DIDN'T STOP UNTIL IT WENT TO THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. THINGS I NOTICED IS WHEN I AM GOING AT 65 MPH, I DON'T SEE ANY PROBLEMS DURING NORMAL BRAKING. MY BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 2.5 YEARS. I WAS TERRIFIED WHEN MY BRAKES WOULD NOT MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. SINCE I AM A DISABLED DRIVER WHO CANNOT TRANSFER IN AND OUT OF MY WHEELCHAIR ON MY OWN MADE IT EXTREMELY WORSE! THE FIRST TIME THE VAN HAD 5000 MI ON IT. THE SECOND TIME WITH WITHIN 25 MI AND A DAY AFTER I PICKED IT UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP! THE DEALERSHIP COVER IT UNDER MY WARRANTY FOR THE FIRST 2 TIMES IN MAY OF '08. NOW THAT IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY BECAUSE MY VAN WAS MODIFIED, BUT IT HA 24,000 MI AND 2.5 YEAR OLD. THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER WAS NOT TAMPERED WITH DURING THE CONVERSION PROCESS AND IS A TOYOTA PART. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION DONE TO FIND OUT WHO WAS AT FAULT. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT TOYOTA'S PART WAS DEFECTIVE BUT THE DEALERSHIP STILL REFUSE TO WARRANTY IT! THE DEALERSHIPS ARE UNWILLING TO EVEN HELP US FIND A SOLUTION. MY 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA HAS AN AVERAGE MPG READOUT. I RESET THE READOUT WHEN I REFILL THE FUEL TANK. WHEN I HAVE ABOUT 177 MILES ON THE TANK, THE MPG READING INSTANTANEOUSLY DROPS ABOUT .3 OR .4 MPG. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO THE MARK MILLER TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD NO INTEREST IN IT AND REFUSED TO PURSUE THE ISSUE. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT AN INVESTIGATOR WOULD FURTHER INSPECT THE VEHICLE FOR THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING THE RESULTS BUT THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE INVESTIGATION RESULTS WOULD NOT BE DISCLOSED TO HER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA WITH ABOUT 37,000 MILES ON IT. WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS OF THIS VAN. I HAD THE FRONT BRAKES REPLACED LAST JANUARY 2009 AT TOYOTA AND WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR ROUTINE SERVICE IN JANUARY 2010 I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED FRONT BRAKES BY TOYOTA AGAIN. I TALKED TO THE TOYOTA MANAGER AND HE STATED THAT IT IS TYPICAL FOR TOYOTA SIENNAS TO NEED FRONT BRAKES EVERY 10-15 THOUSAND MILES. I'VE OWNED FOUR DIFFERENT SIZED CARS AND TRUCKS ALL DIFFERENT SIZES AND NEVER HAD TO CHANGE BRAKES THIS OFTEN. I TOOK THE VAN TO ANOTHER DEALER TO SEE IF I NEEDED NEW BRAKES AND THEY SHOWED ME THE PADS AND THE LEFT BRAKE PAD (DRIVER SIDE) IS WORN TO NEEDING A NEW PAD WHILE THE RIGHT BRAKE PAD (PASSENGER) STILL HAS ABOUT 10,000 MILES ON IT. I'M HAVING A HARD TIME UNDERSTANDING WHY I NEED TO REPLACE FRONT BRAKES EVERY 10-15,000 MILES WHEN I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW. HAD I KNOWN THAT I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE FRONT BRAKES EVERY YEAR I WOULDN'T HAVE PURCHASED THIS VAN. I'M CONCERNED THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND ALSO DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE LEFT SIDE BRAKE WOULD WEAR SO MUCH MORE THAN THE RIGHT SIDE. IF THIS IS NORMAL AND ACCEPTABLE TOYOTA OWES IT TO SIENNA BUYERS TO LET THEM KNOW PRIOR TO PURCHASING. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING THE VAN, I NOTICED A SMELL LIKE BURNING RUBBER, ALTHOUGH ALL GAUGES WERE NORMAL AND NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. SINCE I WAS CLOSE TO HOME, I PULLED INTO THE GARAGE AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND A TRAIL OF OIL ON THE DRIVE WAY. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES, THERE WAS A LARGE PUDDLE OF OIL UNDER THE VEHICLE AS WELL. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE OIL COOLER HOSE HAD BROKEN. THE MECHANIC SAID IF I HAD DRIVEN IT TO THE SHOP, I LIKELY WOULD HAVE RUINED THE ENGINE BECAUSE THE OIL LOSS WAS SO SIGNIFICANT (OUT OF 5 QUARTS, ONLY .25 WAS REMAINING). THE MECHANIC ALSO SAID THAT TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT DID NOT ISSUE A RECALL, EVEN THOUGH THE REPLACEMENT HOSES ARE NOW STEEL AND NOT RUBBER. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE ENGINE COULD HAVE SEIZED UP WHILE RUNNING (DUE TO THE QUICK LOSS OF OIL) CAUSING POTENTIALLY SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND INJURY.
2007 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN WAS IN NATE WADE SUBARU..ONE OF OUR STOCK UNITS. WE WERE SERVICING THIS VEHICLE FOR SALE. WE REPLACED BRAKES FRONT AND REAR. THE BRAKES HAD BEEN BLED. I STARTED THE VEHICLE PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE. WHEN VEHICLE HIT REVERSE THE ENGINE IDLE IDLED UP HIGHER THAN A NORMAL HIGH IDLE. THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME INEFFECTIVE..I WAS PUMPING THE PEDAL TO TRY TO GET A PEDAL AND THE IDLE STAYED UP HIGH. I HAD AN ACCIDENT IN THE DEALERSHIP WITH VEHICLE DUE TO THE HIGH IDLE. IT BACKED ACROSS OUR SHOP AND SLAMMED INTO A HOIST IN THE SHOP. IT CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO BOTH THE VEHICLE AND TO THE SHOP. IT COST ME $500.00 TOWARDS A DEDUCTIBLE AND IT COST THE DEALERSHIP $6500.00 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND $1700.00 TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE TO THE HOIST. I REALIZE THAT THIS VEHICLE IS NOT ON THE LIST OF AFFECTED VEHICLES, HOWEVER IT EXHIBITED THE SAME CONDITION AS THOSE MODELS BE RECALLED. *TR
THE REAR HATCH LATCH/OPENING MECHANISM IS SOFT AND GOOEY. THE SOFTENING/MELTING BEGAN SOMETIME LAST YEAR AND IS GETTING WORSE. IT MAKES IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN BY A CHILD OR WEAKER PERSON. DIFFICULT TO OPEN FOR THE REGULAR GUY. IF THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF EMERGENCY THE LATCH MAY OR MAY NOT WORK. THE MELTED HANDLE ALSO LEAVES A BLACK TAR-LIKE GUNK ON HANDS IN WARM CONDITIONS. THE VAN IS NEVER PARKED IN THE SUN - ALWAYS IN THE GARAGE. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT SERVICES OUR VAN SAID THEY ARE SEEING THIS AND HEARING COMPLAINTS ALL THE TIME. THEY WANT AROUND $200 TO REPLACE.
