Found hole in frame (chassis)
I recently lost both front wheels in two different incidents within a month. Early August drivers side ball joint failed on me. And on September 25th the passenger side failed on me on the freeway almost causing a collision with a mercedes and a semi truck.
As I was pulling out from being parked the truck just dropped to the floor on the drivers side. When I got out to see what happened? My wheel broke off at the lower ball joint yesterday evening. I had to wait 2 hours for a tow. I had no warning or symptoms prior.
The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH, the front passenger’s side wheel separated from the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control of the steering and drove into the opposite lane. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the front suspension ball joint had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that the front shocks, front tires, and front brakes were also damaged during the failure, and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 443,000.
My air conditioning is not working right blowing hot air. Had it charged and no change, I believe that I have the same issue as others, My air bags light keeps going off and on when driving. I see where there was a recall on other Toyota vehicles that had the same problem as me.
We heard they issued a recall for faulty frames. When someone told us this we contacted Toyota. They said it had expired. I never received a recall of any kind.i take excellent care of my vehicles and this Tacoma only roughly 98,000 miles. The body is great shape, it runs great. My question is if the frame should break and we're going 65mph, who is responsible if someone is killed. We did not know about the recall and we certainly would have had them fix it. Is there any way you can help us resolve this issue with Toyota? Thank you in advance.
The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while an independent mechanic was servicing the vehicle, the contact was informed that the rear sub frame was severely rusted at the spring shackle on the driver's side. The vehicle was then taken to an auto body shop, where it was determined that the sub frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 225,000.
I went to get my 02 tacoma tires balanced and was called and told that where the frame was cracked. Upon inspecting it myself the crack is where the manufacturer welded the frame together. I'm the 3rd owner of this vehicle and there original owner didn't get frame warranty recall done. Which led to it running out. Now Toyota corporate has a frame case number ([XXX]) and was told that there's nothing that could be done until enough complaints about this case number reaches a certain number then they'll look into it. The contact stated that several independent mechanics and an auto body repair shop had informed her that there was a hole in the subframe, and the subframe was significantly corroded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.
The frame has prematurely rusted out causing a driving hazard.

Rackandpinon replacement was also the upper and lower ball joints my steering is still giving me problems and I feel like it’s asafty concern because if I’m going down the highway I could loose control I have some receipts for what my mechanic replaced I called Toyota and they told me that it was to late to fix anything and that I would have to deal with it I never received a notice in the mail or anywhere else I feel like Toyota owes me Also what has happened is my spare tire feel off from the hanger going up my driveway I got to looking and the cable rusted away along with my rear parking brake cable up under the truck thanks for your time
The steering is all loose and the alignment is repeatedly moving out of line on its own. The lower ball joints are wearing wrong and may fail at any point.
Frame rusted out! Known issue that no one seems to care to help remedy. Toyota needs to do better. Vehicle still in amazing condition but cannot be driven because of this problem

The truck frame has completely rusted out and has snapped in half. Leaving my truck undriveable. Toyota had an extended warranty but only if you followed exact criteria. This is a big safter issue that should be recalled
Truck was taken to dealer about 5 years ago or less for underbody spray and frame inspection "recall". Truck was cleared as safe. Today, Tire shop informs me frame is unsafe to lift the car by, and proceeded to put his hand through the frame to show the severity of the issue. So I take the truck to my local dealer and ask them what can be done about it. They inform me that, this "program" ended in 2016. I read that 10mm holes in frame would issue a frame/car recall. There is no way there wasn't an issue less than 5 years ago. I believe this is negligence of the dealer in keeping people safe in this vehicle and on the highway.
The chassis of the vehicle is corroded, metal is exposed. Shocks bracket seems like it might break off. Concerned that vehicle will fail on the road.
Truck frame is rusted to the point the the vehicle is not usable. The problem has been confirmed by a local independent service center. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer. The first symptom was that the right rear shock became detached from the frame. When I brought the vehicle in to have the shock repaired they stated that there was not enough frame left in that area to re-attach the shock.
MY FRAME IN MY 2002 TACOMA IS ALMOST FULLY RUSTED . I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO HELP EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW THAT THEIR TRUCKS ARE RUSTING AND THAT THERE WAS A PREVIOUS RECALL SET TO REPLACE THE FRAME. SINCE I JUST GOT THIS TRUCK FORM SOMEONE, I HAD NO IDEA OF THE RECALL AND OF THE RUST . THE CAR IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE AT THIS POINT SINCE IT IS ABOUT TO BREAK IN HALF .

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, SHE HEARD AN ABNORMALLY LOUD CLUNKING SOUND AS THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VEER INDEPENDENTLY TO THE RIGHT, WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT THEN PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND CALLED HER HUSBAND WHO ARRIVED AT THE SCENE AND DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE BALL JOINT. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V225000 (SUSPENSION) WHICH SHE LINKED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED HER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,544.
WAS DRIVING DOWN 85 S C FROM GREENVILLE- ANDERSON IN PASSING LANE .HEARD SLIGHT NOISE LIKE IN LEFT REAR TIRE AT FIRST.SOUND INCREASED FAST TO EXTREME THUMPING.HAD TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY INTO BREAKDOWN LANE.LOOKED AT TIRE-----OUTSIDE WALL WAS COMPLETELY RIPPED OPEN SHOWING TOTAL RIM.IF THIS HAD BEEN EITHER FRONT TIRE I WOULD DEAD NOW.TIRE WAS BOUGHT ABOUT 2 1/2 YRS AGO,TWAS OVER 50%,MILAGE WAS UNDER 20,000 MILES
THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FRAME IN 2010 AND THEY SAID UNDERCOATING WOULD PROTECT THAT HOWEVER NOW THE FRAME IS RUSTED AND NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IF I GET IN AN ACCIDENT IT WILL FAIL. IT ONLY HAS 90,000 MILES ON IT AND TOYOTA IS REFUSING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I FEEL THEY SHOULD HAVE A WARRANTY ON THE FRAME.

THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH MARKQUART TOYOTA (1844 COMMERCIAL BLVD, CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI 54729) WHO INFORMED HER THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT THEN CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DISREGARDED HER CONCERN WITH THE CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURER SUGGESTED THE VEHICLE BE SOLD AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,021.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 190,000.
FRAME IS ROTTED, SHOCK SEPARATED FROM FRAME

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED THE ACCELERATED PEDAL BECAME STUCK, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED BUT TRAVELLED TO THE FLOOR, AS THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A METAL MAIL BOX. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT DIM WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE REPLACED ALL THE BULBS. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED HE SAW A GLOWING LIGHT AS A FIRE WAS IGNITED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES FROM THE FUMES AND FIRE EXERTED FROM THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS THAT BURNT HIS NOSTRILS AND FOREHEAD. THE CONTACT DID NOT SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT LOT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
FRAME RUSTING
I HAVE A 2002 TACOMA THAT WAS PART OF THE FRAME PERFORATION RECALL. HOWEVER, I DID NOT GET A FRAME REPLACEMENT. THE "FIX" WAS TO APPLY A GEL OVER THE RUST ON THE FRAME, WHICH, SUBSEQUENTLY, ALL FELL OFF THE FRAME ONTO MY DRIVEWAY. RECENTLY, I TOOK MY TRUCK INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A 4WD REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THAT MY "FRAME WAS SHOT" AND THE TRUCK WAS "UNSAFE TO DRIVE", DUE TO THAT. AND IF THEY LIFTED MY TRUCK TO DO THE REPAIR, IT MIGHT "CRUSH MY FRAME". I EXPRESSED MY DISPLEASURE FOR THE RECALL FIX AND HAD THEM DO AN ESTIMATE ON THE 4WD REPAIR. THEY CAME BACK WITH AN OUTRAGEOUS NUMBER, AS IF THEY DID NOT WANT TO DO THE WORK. I HAVE SINCE CONTACTED INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOPS AND NO ONE WILL TOUCH IT. *SO, I HAVE A TRUCK NO ONE WILL REPAIR, I CAN'T SELL IT, I CAN'T TRADE IT IN...AND I CAN'T DRIVE IT. IT HAS NO WORTH.ONE OF MY LEAF SPRINGS HAS RUSTED AND BROKEN, TOO. THE TRUCK HAS 215K AND IS IN GOOD CONDITION OTHER THAN RUST. THE ENGINE WILL GO 500K. I SEE RECALLS ON THE FRAME AND LEAF SPRING FOR OTHER MODEL YEARS, BUT THE 2002 SEEMS TO NOT FALL INTO ANY OF THEM. I DON'T EXPECT A NEW FRAME, BUT ASSISTANCE IN OBTAINING A SIMILAR TRUCK AT A REASONABLE PRICE OR OTHER FAIR SOLUTION MAY BE A CONSIDERATION.
FRAME FAILURE DUE TO CORROSION: TOYOTA HAD PLACED A "WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT" TO REPLACE THE FRAMES BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T TREATED FOR CORROSION BUT WITH AN ENHANCEMENT, IT EXPIRES AND DID SO IN 2017. I JUST BOUGHT THE TRUCK AND LEARNED THEY HAVE A SAFETY RECALL FOR CORROSION OF THE SPARE WHEEL COMPARTMENT. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE. WHY IS THE FRAME NOT A SAFETY RECALL?? I HAVE HUGE HOLES AND LARGE CRACKS ALONG MUCH OF THE FRAME AND MY MECHANIC TELLS ME IT'S UNSAFE TO DRIVE. MY FINGERS GO THROUGH THE SIDE OF THE FRAME! MY MECHANIC TELLS ME BASED ON THE LOCATION OF THE CORROSION IN THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK, THE ENTIRE ENGINE IS IN DANGER OF FALLING OUT!! LOOKING ON THE INTERNET, THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR TOYOTA TRUCKS FOR 2002 AND BEYOND. FOR MANY YEARS THIS HASN'T BEEN ADDRESSED. THE GOV NEEDS TO DEMAND A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS TRUCK AND ALL THE OTHERS AFFECTED.
MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT MY FRAME WAS RUSTED THROUGH. HE COULD PUT HIS FIST THROUGH A HOLE IN THE FRAME AND RECOMMENDED I CALL A DEALER TO SEE IF THIS WAS ON A RECALL LIST. WHEN I CALLED AND GAVE THEM THE VIN, THEY SAID NO IT IS NOT A RECALL. WHAT CAN I DO? ESPECIALLY IF I CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER VEHICLE!
7/31/2019, I DROVE MY TRUCK TO A TOYOTA DEALER SHOP AFTER I NOTICED THE REAR OF MY TRUCK TILTING DOWN WHEN LOADING. PER TOYOTA DEALER INSPECTION, ITS FRAME 3/4 WAY RUSTED THROUGH ON BOTH SIDES AND VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. AND TOYOTA'S EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE FRAME EXPIRED ON JANUARY 2, 2017. REPLACING THE FRAME WOULD COST $24,000, OR THE TRUCK IS JUST A PIECE OF JUNK. ON THE SAME DAY 1:20PM, I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE, 800-331-4331, AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, AS I DIDN'T BRING IT IN BEFORE THE WARRANTY ON TRUCK FRAME EXPIRED. 7/22/2011, THE TRUCK HAD A FRAME RECALL IN RESPONSE TO EXCESSIVE RUST AND PERFORMED CORROSION TREATMENT PER TOYOTA GUIDELINE (NOT REPLACEMENT OF FRAME). 2/11/2013, THE TRUCK WAS IN TOYOTA SHOP FOR INSPECTION AND DIDN'T HAVE ANY WORDS REGARDING THE FRAME. MY TRUCK IS IN GREAT SHAPE, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR, OTHER THAN THE RUST FRAME, WITH ONLY 102,000 MILES. I LIKE THE TRUCK, TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT, AND INTENT TO DRIVE FOR A FEW MORE YEARS. BUT I NEVER THOUGHT THE FRAME WOULD BE AN ISSUE EVEN AFTER HAVING A FRAME RECALL WORK DONE. I FEEL TOYOTA SHOULD STILL TAKE CARE OF MY TRUCK FRAME, AS IT HAS GONE BAD DUE TO THE FACT THAT (1) TOYOTA DIDN'T BUILD IT WITH GOOD QUALITY PARTS TO START WITH, (2) TOYOTA DEALER DIDN'T PERFORM A GOOD QUALITY RECALL - JUST PATCH/PAINTED WHICH DIDN'T PREVENT FROM FURTHER RUSTING, AND (3) THIS BAD RUST MUST HAVE HAPPENED BEFORE THE 15-YEAR WARRANTY EXPIRED; I JUST OVER-TRUSTED TOYOTA AND OVER-LOOKED THE FRAME... I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL FRAME BODY SHOPS. THEY ARE ALL AWARE OF THE TOYOTA TACOMA FRAME PROBLEMS AND THINK THE FRAME HAD BEEN RUSTING A LONG TIME AGO, WHILE THE TRUCK LOOKS/RUNS GREAT. REPLACEMENT OF THE FRAME IS THE ONLY YET COSTLY OPTION TO SAVE THE TRUCK. I BELIEVE THERE MUST BE MANY TACOMA OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME RESULTED FROM BAD-QUALITY-BUILT TRUCK FRAMES.

THE CONTACT MANAGED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO JEFF WYLER TOYOTA OF CLARKSVILLE (808 E LEWIS AND CLARK PKWY, CLARKSVILLE, IN 47129, (812) 284-2277) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 305,000.

WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR AN ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY CHANGE, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK COVER OFTEN POPPED OPEN WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V542000 (TIRES). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BILL WALSH TOYOTA (815-768-1962, LOCATED AT 4000 N COLUMBUS STREET, OTTAWA, IL 61350) WHERE THE FRAME WAS COATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO REMINDER ABOUT THE WARRANTY EXPIRATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED AND THAT THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 124,000.

ELMHURST TOYOTA (440 W LAKE ST, ELMHURST, IL 60126, (630) 279-2160) INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME AND CHASSIS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL CAMPAIGN TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I RECENTLY TOOK MY CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED ME OF A RECALL FOR MY CAR MADE DUE TO THE ROTTING OF THE FRAME. I'VE HAD MY DAUGHTER CALL TOYOTA, WHO'S INFORMED HER THAT MAILS WERE SENT TO MY HOME ABOUT THE RECALL, WHICH I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED. I FEEL THE CONDITION OF THE FRAME IN MY CAR IS A VERY DANGEROUS HAZARD AND I AM NOT ABLE TO USE THIS VEHICLE AFRAID OF WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN.
TAKATA RECALL THE CHASSIS OF THE TRUCK IS COMPLETELY RUSTED. DOES NOT LOOK SAFE TO DRIVE.
I PURCHASED A USED TOYOTA TACOMA 2002 ON 12/16/11 (NOW WITH 124K MILES). TOYOTA ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE TO OWNERS REGARDING A SAFETY ISSUE & THE POSSIBILITY OF FRAME SPLITTING WITH STEPS TO TAKE FOR TOYOTA TO COVER THIS ISSUE IN A 1X LETTER THEY SENT OUT IN FEB 2012. TOYOTA SENT THE LETTER TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER & NOT TO ME (THE RIGHTFUL OWNER AT THAT TIME.) I RECENTLY FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FROM A LOCAL TIRE COMPANY THAT NOTICED A SPLIT IN MY TRUCK'S FRAME (THIS ISSUE WAS NEVER BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION BY THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHEN I HAD ANOTHER RECALL ISSUE TAKEN CARE OF ON 5/11/15). I WENT RIGHT TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY SAID THE FRAME MUST BE REPLACED (WHICH WAS PART OF THE PROGRAM THAT TOYOTA OFFERED IN THE LETTER SENT TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER, NOT ME' THE CORRECT OWNER AT THAT TIME). TOYOTA WILL NOT ASSIST ME WITH THE REPAIR/FIX BECAUSE THEY CLAIM THEY DID THEIR JOB AND SENT THE NOTICE TO THE OWNER THAT THEY HAD ON FILE FROM THEIR RESOURCES. I HAVE A COPY OF MY DMV REGISTRATION SHOWING THE REGISTRATION DATE, PROVING THAT THEY MAILED THE LETTER & REPAIR DETAILS TO THE INCORRECT OWNER. I SENT A CERTIFIED LETTER TO THE TOYOTA LEGAL DEPARTMENT WITH THE DETAILS & PROOF OF OWNERSHIP, WHICH CLEARLY SHOWS I WAS THE RIGHTFUL OWNER AT THE TIME THEY MAILED THE LETTER. THEY SIGNED FOR MY LETTER ON 12/21/18. NOW IT IS 3 1/2 MONTHS LATER AND I HAVE NOT YET HEARD BACK FROM THEM. WHEN I CALL THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE, TELLING ME THAT THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT CAN ONLY COMMUNICATE BY MAIL. TOYOTA HAS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE FRAME THAT THEY NEVER INFORMED ME ABOUT. NOW MY CHERISHED TRUCK & DAILY TRANSPORTATION IS WORTH NOTHING BECAUSE OF TOYOTA'S DEFECTIVE FRAME. THIS COMPLAINT IS BEING ISSUED BECAUSE TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE FRAME AND LACK OF PROPERLY NOTIFYING ME, THE CORRECT OWNER, WITH THE SAFETY ISSUE & REPAIR OPTIONS.
THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS SHOWING SUBSTANTIAL RUST AND CORROSION
VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO FRAME RUST. WAS TOLD THAT ITS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THIS IS LONG ONGOING ISSUE WITH TOYOTA AND A NUMBER OF THERE VEHICLES. TOYOTA HAS KNOWLEDGE OF THIS ISSUE AND STILL SOLD THESE INFERIOR FRAMES FOR MANY YEARS.
DRIVING ON LOCAL STREET, 25 MPH, THEN HEARD CLUNKING SOUND WHEN HITTING ROAD BUMPS. MECHANIC INSPECTION REVEALED SHOCK MOUNT COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT OF FRAME AND EXCESSIVE RUST AND ROTTING THROUGHOUT THE REAR FRAME. TOYOTA WILL NOT HELP SO WILL HAVE REPAIR PRIVATELY AND WELD NEW SLEEVES TO THE FRAME. TOYOTA HAS CREATED A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR ITS' CUSTOMERS BY USING INFERIOR METALS IN ITS' FRAMES FOR MANY YEARS.
IN 2012 WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THIS VEHICLES FRAME. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND WE WERE TOLD EVERYHTHING LOOKS OK. NO OTHER ACTION WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. YESTERDAY WE NOTICED A CRACK IN THE FRAME. THE CAR IS NON DRIVEABLE. WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WE WERE TOLD THIS IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. I CALLED TOYOTA HQ AND THEY STATED HAD IT BEEN SPRAYED - WHICH WAS TOYOTAS DIRECTION ON THIS RECALL, IT MAY HAVE PREVENTED THE RUSTING AND CRACKING BUT SINCE THE DEALER DIDN'T DO IT, IT IS NOW OUT OF ANYTHING ANYONE CAN DO. I ASKED THEM IF THEY WOULD SEND ME A COPY OF THE DIRECTIVE GIVEN TO THE DEALSHIPS ON HOW TO HANDLE THIS RECALL AND THEY SAID THAT IS NOT SOMETHING THEY COULD PROVIDE AND THEY CANNOT TAKE ACTION AGAINST THE DEALERSHIP. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS? I FEEL THAT IF THE DEALERSHIP HAD DONE THE SPRAYING AS THEY HAD BEEN INSTRUCTED, WE MAY NOT BE IN THIS SITUATION TODAY.
MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE ABOVE VEHICLE'S FAME IS STRUCTURALLY UNSAFE. I SHARE THIS TRUCK WITH MY 18 YEAR OLD GRANDSON. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW IF I HAVE ANY RECALL WITH TOYOTA BEFORE I PROCEED WITH EITHER FIXING IT OR JUNKING IT. IT HAS 140,000 ORIGINAL MILES AND I BELIEVE I AM THE THIRD OWNER. I LIVE IN THE NORTHEAST.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO RICK MCGILL'S AIRPORT TOYOTA (865-970-2615, LOCATED AT 3145 ALCOA HWY, ALCOA, TN 37701) FOR AN OIL CHANGE. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT A CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM, WHICH PROVIDED ASSISTANCE TO VEHICLE OWNERS, EXPIRED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2017. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 118,000. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS ROTTING ON THE VEHICLE. MCGEE TOYOTA OF DUDLEY (191 W MAIN ST, DUDLEY, MA 01571) AND HERB CHAMBERS TOYOTA OF AUBURN (809 WASHINGTON ST, AUBURN, MA 01501) STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.
MY 2002 TACOMA HAS SEVERE RUST ON THE FRAME AND DRIVE TRAIN AND I WAS TOLD BY THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT THE TRUCK UNDER BODY WAS SPRAYED IN 2010 AND THAT THERE HAVE TO BE HOLES IN THE FRAME TO BE COVERED. HE ALSO SAID THAT THERE WAS A 15 YEAR WARRANTY FOR MY FRAME TO WHICH IT IS NOW 2018 AND HAS EXSPIRED. I FEEL THAT TOYOTA KNEW THAT DEFECTED STEEL WAS USED FOR THESE FRAMES FROM 2002. I WON'T EVEN BOTHER TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THEM BECAUSE I KNOW THAT THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
I RECEIVED A INTERIM NOTICE LETTER FROM TOYOTA IN 2011, STATING THAT THE FRAME HAD A COATING DEFECT. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL OXMOOR TOYOTA DEALER IN 2011 AND THEY PUT A WAX COATING ON THE FRAME TO STOP THE FRAME FROM RUSTING MORE. I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER ON THE SPARE TIRE ASSEMBLY AND I HAD OXMOOR TOYOTA FIX THAT AS WELL. THE ASSEMBLY WAS RUSTING AWAY. THIS WEEK I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD (HWY 480) AND THE TRUCK BECAME VERY LOOSE IN HANDLING. TOOK THE TRUCK HOME INSPECTED IT AND FOUND THE FRAME SNAPPED IN HALF ON THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL.
MY FRAME IS JUST RUSTED OUT IN THE BACK END IT'S NEVER BEEN FLOODED ALWAYS TAKEN CARE OF VERY WELL AND I HEARD ABOUT THE FRAME RECALLS BUT MY VIN COMES BACK WITH NO RECALLS I JUST NEED TO SEE IF THIS CAN BE INVESTIGATED I KNOW PEOPLE WHO DID QUALIFY AND THERE FRAMES WERE PERFECTLY FINE BUT MINE IS JUST FALLING APART
SHOCK RUSTED AWAY FROM FRAME, MECHANIC TRIED TO PUT ON LIFT TO FIX AND THE FRAME STARTED TO POP AND CRACK AT THE REAR WHEEL AREA, IT IS RUSTED THROUGH. THE FRAME WAS COATED DURING THE RECALL PERIOD IN 2011 AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS OK. I VERY MUCH DOUBT THAT IT WAS.
FRAME IS RUSTING REAL BAD AND FALLING APART.CALLED TOYOTA AND DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THERE IS A SUBSTANTIAL CRACKING AND BREAKING APART ON THE FRAME I READ ONLINE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THERE IS PROBLEMS WITH A LOT OF TACOMA'S AND LIKE TRUCKS. BUT NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE PROBLEM. EVERYWHERE ELSE ON THE FRAME IS LITTLE RUSTY GIVEN THE AGE OF THE TRUCK BUT IN ONE SPOT IT IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE AND SCARY. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO OR WHERE ELSE TO TURN.
