AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BE SERVICED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V337000 (SEAT BELTS), THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE FRAME AND RECALL PARTS BEING UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 189,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK ABOUT A YEAR AGO. I RECENTLY HEARD OF A SETTLEMENT REGARDING RUSTY FRAMES. MY TRUCK HAS ONE, VERY BAD AND I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PROCEED TO GET THIS FIXED OR TRADED IN.

THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, WHEN THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS PLACED INTO FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL WAS DISABLED, AND WHEN DRIVING OVER ICE, SNOW, AND/OR SAND. MAJOR RUST DAMAGE ON FRAME AFTER ONLY 8 YEARS OF VEHILCE BEING RELEASED, A 2 BY 4 INCH WIDE HOLE ON BOTH SIDES FOR THE TRUCKS FRAME CAUSING WARPING AND BENDING AS WELL AS UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. WHEN TAKEN TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP REPAIRS TOOK 9 MONTHS, AND UPON COMPLETION WAS SEND BACK TO OWNERS POSSESSION WITHOUT TEST DRIVING OR VERIFYING PROJECT COMPLETION.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN I HEARD A LOUD NOISE ! I THOUGHT SOME KIDS THREW. ROCK AT MY TRUCK! THAT IS WHAT IT SOUNDED LIKE TO ME. A LOUD WHACK!! LOOKED AROUND,SAW NO ONE. I LATER READ AFTER RECEIVING NOTICE FROM TOYOTA ABOUT A LEAF SPRING RECALL. THIS WAS ONE OF THE SYMPTOMS THAT WAS REPORTED BY OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. TOOK IT IN FOR AN INSPECTION AND THEY CALLED ME A DAY LATER AND THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THAT IT NEEDED A NEW FRAME! SAID I NEEDED TO LEAVE IT THERE ,SINCE IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND GAVE ME A COROLLA TO DRIVE. DROPPED IT OFF JAN 4,2016. I STOPPED INTO THE SERVICE DEPT 7 WEEKS LATER TO SEE IF THE FRAME WAS IN YET AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS ON ORDER. AFTER FURTHER QUESTIONING THE ADMITTED TO ME THAT THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FRAMES HAD TO GET SO MANY ORDERS ON RECORD TO EVEN GET STARTED PRODUCING THEM. I HAVE A TRUCK THAT I CAN'T EVEN DRIVE!!

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS UNAVAILABLE.
MY TRUCK FRAME IS SEVERELY RUSTED. TOYOTA HAD A VOLUNTARY FRAME EXCHANGE PROGRAM, FOR WHICH I QUALIFIED. I FIRST TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE LOCAL DEALER (PENN TOYOTA IN GREENVALE, NY) FOR INSPECTION AS PER TOYOTA'S PROGRAM IN OCTOBER 2015. DEALER CONFIRMED THAT A NEW FRAME IS NEEDED AND ADVISED ME THAT IT IS ON ORDER. SINCE OCT 2015, I FOLLOWED UP WITH DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, AND IN JANUARY 2016, DEALER ADVISED THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE DOCUMENTATION IN THEIR SYSTEM. SO I BROUGHT MY TRUCK BACK IN AGAIN, AND SERVICE MANAGER JIMMY CONFIRMED THAT I AM ENTITLED TO A NEW FRAME UNDER TOYOTA PROGRAM AND THEY WILL PLACE THE ORDER FOR ME. AGAIN, I CONTINUED TO FOLLOW UP SEVERAL TIMES EACH MONTH AND WAS TOLD THAT FRAME IS ON ORDER. IN MARCH 2016, I FOLLOWED UP AGAIN WITH DEALER BECAUSE THE TOYOTA PROGRAM WAS ABOUT TO EXPIRE. DEALER AGAIN REASSURED ME THAT MY CASE IS IN THE SYSTEM BUT IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME TO RECEIVE NEW FRAME. IN APRIL 2016, I FOLLOWED UP AGAIN BUT THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO DATA IN THEIR SYSTEM ABOUT HAVING ORDERED A NEW FRAME FOR MY TRUCK. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE OFFICE AND THEY OPENED A CASE NUMBER (160-422-2525). I WAS TOLD BY TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE HANDLING MY CASE THAT THEY ARE GETTING A NEW FRAME FOR ME. IT IS NOW SEPTEMBER 2016 AND I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY NEW UPDATES. DUE TO THE LARGE RUST HOLES IN MY FRAME AND HAVING READ REPORTS OF OTHER OWNERS HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES (AND TOYOTA'S ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE PROBLEM AS EVIDENCED BY THE FRAME REPLACEMENT PROGRAM), I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FULLY MAKE USE OF MY TRUCK SINCE I FIRST LEARNED ABOUT THE RUST BECAUSE I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT.

I WAS DRIVING, FROM MY WORK TRY TO OPEN THE WINDOW AND I CAN NOT OPEN I STOP, SOMETHING SMELL BURN, WAS MY DRIVING SIDE DOOR, WINDOWS WERE LOCK, MY TRUCK WERE LOOKED , I CAN NOT OPEN DOORS, I DROVE TO MY MECANIC HE BROKE THE WINDOW, A LOT SMOKE INSIDE MY TRUCK, OK, I WENT OUT, AND IT COST ME $1200.00.- TO FIX, WELL CHANGE EVERYTHING INSIDE. I BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL REPAIR PLACE BECAUSE OF A LOUD NOISE UNDER THE TRUCK AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS SEVERELY CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT IT WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT INSPECTED. FURTHER RESEARCH HAS DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN ONGOING THROUGH MARCH,2016. AT THIS TIME I AM AWAITING THE RESULTS FROM THE DEALER'S INSPECTION.

NOISE AND VIBRATION PRESENT TOWARDS FRONT OF VEHICLE, CONSISTENT WITH FRONT, SEALED WHEEL BEARING FAILURE, THAT INCREASED OVER TIME AND WITH INCREASED SPEED. WITH TOTAL FAILURE, THE PROBLEM COULD HAVE RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. CURRENTLY THE VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP FOR NECESSARY REPLACEMENT OF THE BEARING.

THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO STEER THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, OVER TIME, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY LOOSE. THE CONTACT HAD TO STEER THE VEHICLE IN EXCESS TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN POSITION. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
STEERING GOT VERY STIFF AND I HAD TROUBLE OPERATION THE VEHICLE. I WAS ALMOST WAS IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS. ONCE I GOT THE TRUCK TO THE ROADSIDE I CHECKED FOR A FLAT TIRE, BROKEN POWER STEERING BELT AND THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL AND CONDITION. EVERYTHING WAS OK, BUT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STILL VERY HAD TO TURN. I HAD THE TRUCKS STEERING CHECKED OUT AND THE U JOINT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STEERING COLUMN HAD SIZED UP. TOYOTA PART NUMBER 4520304020 INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND TOYOTA SHOULD DO A RECALL TO COVER THIS. THE PROBLEM COMES ON SUDDENLY AND YOU LOSE THE ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INTERIOR LONG WIRE OVERHEATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN INITIATED BY TOYOTA SUMMER 2014 FOR PREMATURE RUSTING OF FRAMES IN COLD WEATHER STATES WERE ROAD SALT IS THE USED. INSTRUCTED TO TAKE VEHICLE IN TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO HAVE INSPECTED FOR POSSIBLE PERFORATION OF FRAME. IF NO PERFORATION SEEN, A CORROSION RESISTANT KIT WOULD BE INSTALLED/PERFORMED ON THE FRAME AND RETURNED TO THE CUSTOMER. IN MY PARTICULAR CASE, VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO DEALERSHIP ON AUGUST 25TH 2014 FOR INSPECTION, IT APPEARED NO PERFORATION WAS NOTED BY SERVICE TECH PERFORMING SERVICE ON MY VEHICLE. THE CORROSION RESISTANT KIT WAS APPLIED AND VEHICLE RETURNED TO ME ON AUGUST 27TH 2014. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE ON AUGUST 10, 2015 AND AT THAT TIME VEHICLE WAS NOTED TO HAVE PERFORATION OF FRAME BY SERVICE TECH. THIS LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN WAS STILL IN EFFECT UNTIL MARCH 31, 2016. TOYOTA WAS NOTIFIED OF PERFORATION OF FRAME AND INITIALLY SAID A NEW FRAME WOULD BE ORDERED AND WOULD ARRIVE IN 120-160 DAYS AND I WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN IT ARRIVED. I CALLED DEALERSHIP IN FEBRUARY 2016 AND WAS TOLD TOYOTA DENIED NEW FRAME DUE TO ALREADY HAVING THE CORROSION RESISTANT KIT COMPLETED. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THE CASE MANAGERS I TALKED TO BOTH SAID DUE TO THE CORROSION RESISTANT KIT BEING APPLIED, TOYOTA HAD FULFILLED THE OBLIGATION TO THE CUSTOMER AND THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ELSE TO HELP ME OUT AT THIS TIME. I ASK IF THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE FRAME RUSTING AND GETTING HOLES IN IT AND WAS TOLD YES IT COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE SITUATION AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY COULD DO. I STATED I WAS GOING TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTATION. THE CASE MANAGER SAID I SHOULD AS THE NHTSA APPROVED THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEMS TOYOTA HAD PRESENTED TO THEM FOR THIS LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN. TRUCK WON'T LAST LONG LIKE THIS.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while his vehicle was parked, he noticed that the subframe was extremely rusted. The contact noticed a 10-inch crack on the inside driver’s side rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer dealer and the contact was informed that the subframe needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. Consumer stated rust is the worst near the catalytic converters. It is also bad just in front of the rear tires. It’s a manufacturer flaw where they designed the double wall to where water could get in but not get out and the frame rots from the inside out. This truck was garage kept.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER (COX TOYOTA 3860 DANBROOK ROAD, BURLINGTON, NC 27215) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME HAD EXCESSIVE CORROSION AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT A RECALL WAS SENT OUT YEARS PRIOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND NEVER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF CORROSION ON THE FRAME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 239,000. UPDATED 09/07/17*LJ *CN
Rusty Frame Issue Toyota Tacoma had a warranty enchantment program that expired in 01/31/2019 . I took the Tacoma July 18 2022 to the dealership for regular maintenance and they told me “THE TECH NOTICED 2 LARGES HOLES IN THE FRAME WHICH IS GOING TO COMPROMISE THE STRENGTH OF THE FRAME”. When I asked why they didn’t change the frame during the inspection back in 2015 if they knew it was going to be a problem. They refused to give a good answer. I took the Tacoma to the dealership back in 2015 for a frame inspection the nonprofessional inspector chose not change the frame. I contacted Toyota Motor Sales USA and basically was told they couldn’t do anything because the warranty enchantment program already expired. I understand that the warranty enchantment program has expired but I don’t understand how I have full responsibility when I did my part as the customer by taking my Tacoma during the time window of the warranty enchantment program. This is not safe for me, my family of the citizens. I believe there are going to be many more Toyota pickups with this problem.

IN REFERENCE TO U.S. DISTRICT COURT FOR THE WESTERN DISTRICT OF ARKANSAS CASE NUMBER: 1:14-CV-02208 I CURRENTLY OWN A 05 TACOMA THAT HAS THE FRAME RUSTED COMPLETELY, I'VE CONTACTED TOYOTA REPEATEDLY ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THEY ARE DENYING TO FIX THIS BECAUSE THIS VEHICLE IS NO LONGER IN THE USA. MY ARGUMENT HERE IS THAT TOYOTA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAS HAD MAY COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT YET DID NOTHING ABOUT IT, THEY SHOULD FIX THIS THE VEHICLE REGARDLESS OF WHERE IT IS BECAUSE IT POSES A MAJOR SAFETY RISK TO MY LIFE AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD.

THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,932.
I HAD COMPLETE FAILURE TO MY RACK AND PINION STEERING DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION TO THE COMPONENT. I WAS PULLING INTO A BUSINESS DOING ABOUT 10 MPH AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP COMPLETELY. I CHECKED THE POWER STEERING FLUID IN THE RESERVOIR AND IT WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. I CHECKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND ON THE GROUND WAS A PUDDLE OF STEERING FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL GARAGE AND WHEN HE EXAMINED THE TRUCK TO SEE WHAT HAD HAPPENED, HE STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION HAD COMPLETED ROTTED OUT AND BROKE. I ALSO HAD HIM CHECK THE FRAME ON MY TRUCK, SINCE I RECEIVED A TSB BULLETIN ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE CORROSION DUE TO NOT ENOUGH FRAME UNDERCOATING BEING APPLIED IN COLD STATES. HE FOUND A LARGE HOLE BEHIND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IN THE FRAME. THE MECHANIC CHECKED THE REST OF THE FRAME AND FOUND SOME SMALLER PERFORATIONS AS WELL. MY QUESTIONS IS IF THE FRAME IS BEGINNING TO ROT AND THEY ARE SELECTIVELY REPLACING THE FRAMES OR VEHICLE IF THEY ARE A DANGER, WHY ARE NO OTHER COMPONENTS THAT ARE ATTACHED TO THESE FAILING PARTS COVERED AS WELL AND FAILING DUE TO EXCESSIVE ROT OR RUSTING. IF ANY OF THESE COMPONENTS FAILED DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS ON THE HIGHWAY AT NORMAL SPEED THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN DEVASTATING TO ALL INVOLVED, POSSIBLY LEADING TO SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH. SOMETHING MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE TO BRING ATTENTION TO THE TOYOTA MOTOR COMPANY NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES THEY PRODUCE AND THE SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE WHO OWN AND OPERATE THEM. TOYOTA NEEDS TO STOP PLAYING THE "ITS NOT COVERED OR APPLICABLE" GAME AND TAKE OWNERSHIP AND FIX IT BEFORE SOMEONE DOES GET KILLED. IS THERE A STANDARD FOR STEEL IN THIS APPLICATION? I NEED YOUR HELP. I CANT GET TOYOTA TO DO THE RIGHT THING ON MY OWN. MUCH SOONER THAN IT SHOULD THIS VEHICLE WILL BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR AN INSPECTION, WHICH REVEALED THERE WERE RUST HOLES IN THE FRAME. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED IT WOULD TAKE THREE MONTHS, FOR THEM TO RECEIVE THE FRAME. *JB

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A STRONG VIBRATION COMING FROM THE VEHICLE, THE SERVICE ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, AND THE U-JOINTS HAD NOT BEEN PROPERLY LUBRICATED FROM THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. THE DEALER DID NOT REPLACE THE DRIVETRAIN AND THE U-JOINTS. THE CONTACT CONSTANTLY HAD TO LUBE THE U-JOINTS TO PREVENT DRYNESS, WHICH WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE DRIVETRAIN TO FRACTURE. THE CONTACT, A MECHANIC, REPLACED THE U-JOINTS AND TOOK THE DRIVESHAFT TO THE DEALER TO INSPECT THE PART, BUT NO REMEDY WAS PROVIDED. THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED A SERVICE CAMPAIGN AND INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED; THEREFORE, THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE U-JOINTS AND THE DRIVESHAFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

TOYOTA SENT ME A LIMITED SERVICE NOTICE INFORMING ME THAT MY TRUCK MAY HAVE MORE THAN NORMAL CORROSION ON THE FRAME. I BROUGHT MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO INSPECT IT AND THEY CONFIRMED THERE IS MORE THAN A NORMAL AMOUNT OF CORROSION ON MY FRAME. IN FACT THEY SAID THEY PUNCHED A HOLE IN MY FRAME WHILE PERFORMING THE TEST. LATER THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT TOYOTA WOULD ONLY COVER THE COST TO REPLACE THE FRAME AND LIMITED COMPONENTS, AND IF CERTAIN ITEMS BREAK (LIKE SHOCKS, CALIPERS, MUFFLERS, ETC.) DURING THE REPLACEMENT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO COVER THESE ITEMS. I WAS TOLD THESE COSTS COULD BE AS HIGH AS $1,500. AT THIS POINT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ENTIRE REPAIR, LEAVING ME WITH AN UNSAFE VEHICLE TO COMMUTE IN. I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO COVER ALL OF THESE ITEMS.

I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE TOYOTA'S RECALL FOR THE SPIRAL CABLE. THE FAILURE LIGHT WAS NOT ON. A FEW MONTHS AFTER I GOT THE VEHICLE BACK THE FAILURE LIGHT CAN ON. TOYOTA SAID THE SPIRAL CABLE HAD FAILED AND WANTED $700 PLUS TO REPLACE IT. I AM GUESSING THEY DID NOT FIX THE VIBRATION THAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM SO THE SYSTEM FAILED AGAIN. FRAME RECALL. I TOOK MY FRAME IN TO BE SPRAYED WITH RUST PROTECTION BUT 4 MONTHS LATER THE VEHICLE FAILED THE STATE INPECTION DUE TO HOLES IN THE FRAME. TOYOTA SAID THAT SINCE THEY ALREADY PUT THE RUST PROTECTION ON THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING. THEY DID NOT PROPERLY INSPECT MY FRAME. THE RUST HOLES DID NOT APPEAR AFTER 4 MONTHS. THEY SHOULD OF REPLACED THE BAD FRAME.

THE STEERING IN MY TOYOTA TACOMA BEGAN TO BIND SUDDENLY WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. UPON INSPECTION BY THE DEALERSHIP, THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AND STEERING YOKE BOTH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT PART APPEARS TO BE AN UPDATED PART WITH A RUBBER BOOT TO PREVENT CORROSION OF THE SHAFT JOINTS. I BELIEVE THE FAILURE OF THE ORIGINAL PART WAS DUE TO POOR DESIGN, CAUSING THE PART TO BEGIN TO FAIL. IF NOT REPLACED AND THE SHAFT OR SHAFT JOINT HAD BROKEN AT SPEED, THIS CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. *TR
