TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE TIRE WOULD DEFLATE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE WHEEL DEVELOPED A CRACK AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR COSTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN ABNORMAL TICKING NOSE WAS HEARD FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE U-JOINT NEEDED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR OIL CHANGE THEY FOUND A LONG CRACK IN THE FRAME TOLD ME THE TRUCK WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT THAT TIME SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THERE WERE NO RECALLS AT THAT TIME I TRADED IT IN ON A NEW ONE TEN THOUSAND WAS OWED ON THE TRUCK BUT THEY ONLY GAVE ME 6000 TRUCK WAS WORTH ABOUT 14000.00 NOW THERE IS A RECALL AND TOYOTA SAYS THAT PER YOUR GUIDELINES THEY DO NOT HAVE TO COMPENSATE ME FOR MY LOSES AND THIS TRUCK BROKE TWO YEARS AGO IF I STILL HAD THE TRUCK I WOULD BE GLAD TO HAVE THEM FIX IT BUT THEY SAID THAT AT THAT TIME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME WE THE CONSUMERS NEED YOUR HELP TO FIX THIS PROBLEM TOYOTA SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH THIS THEY HAD A RECALL ON TACOMAS IN THE EARLY 2000,S AND WERE GIVING BOOK VALUE PLUS HAVE SO THAT IS 150 PERCENT OF THE VALUE OF THE TRUCK THANK IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR TIME IN THIS MATTER LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU *TR
SUDDEN ONSET OF STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT U-JOINT SEIZING MAKING STEERING DIFFICULT. ALSO LOST RETURN-TO-CENTER OF STEERING. THIS COULD POSE A SERIOUS RISK OF OVER-STEERING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHEN MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AT A TEE INTERSECTION. THE UNPROTECTED U-JOINT IS EXPOSED TO STRIKING OF ROAD DEBRIS AND SALT SPRAY. THE U-JOINT DOES NOT HAVE GREASE FITTINGS OR ANY OBVIOUS MEANS OF LUBRICATION. INTERNET RESEARCH SUGGESTS THIS IS A VERY COMMON DEFECT FOR TOYOTA TACOMAS WITH APPROXIMATELY 75K OR MORE MILES STARTING WITH MODEL YEARS 2005 AND NEWER. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN TO THE LEFT OR THE RIGHT DIRECTION. THIS IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY DESIGN OF THE STEERING SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINTS. THE FRAME IS ALSO RUSTING VERY BADLY AND I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE INTEGRITY OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE STEERING ALL OF A SUDDEN BECAME SURPRISINGLY HARD TO TURN AS IF THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRING PROBLEM IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF TRUCK AND IS A SAFETY CONCERN. THE ONSET OF THIS PROBLEM IS INCREDIBLY FAST WHICH COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS CRASHES AND INJURIES!!! THE CAUSE IS A FAULTY PART DESIGN (PART IS EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS AND SEIZES) AND NEEDS TO BE REMEDIED ASAP. THE FAULTY PART # 45203 - 04020, INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. *TR
2005 TOYOTA TACOMA FIRST ISSUE IS THE STEERING, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE TURNING THE STEERING HAS "LOCKED UP" , THE STEERING GETS EXTREMITY HARD TO TURN IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. AFTER MY OWN RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THE UNIVERSAL JOINT ON THE STEERING SHAFT WILL LOCK UP OR GET EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN IF NOT GREASED. THE JOINT IS OPEN TO THE ELEMENTS AND HAS NO PROTECTIVE BOOT OVER IT. THERE IS NO MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE FROM TOYOTA FOR THE JOINT. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH. IF THE OPERATOR DOES NOT HAVE THE UPPER BODY STRENGTH TO FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN WHEN THE JOINT LOCKS UP IT MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS ISSUE IS OFTEN MISDIAGNOSED BY MECHANICS CAUSE EXPENSIVE UNNECESSARY REPAIRS (NEW STEERING RACK). THE SECOND ISSUE IS FRAME RUST. THE FRAMES ARE A POOR DESIGN, HAVE NO PROTECTIVE COATING AND ARE MADE OF INFERIOR METAL. A SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCH FOR "TACOMA FRAME RUST" WILL SHOW PLENTY OF HORROR STORIES OF FRAMES LITERALLY RUSTING AWAY FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK. THE OLDEST 2ND GENERATION TACOMAS (2005 PRODUCTION YEAR) ARE NOW 9 YEARS OLD, A FRAME ON A 9 YEAR OLD VEHICLE HAVING RUST ISSUES IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. ALONG WITH THE FRAMES RUSTING AWAY ALL COMPONENTS ATTACHED TO THE FRAME CAN FAIL. (LEAF SPRINGS, SHOCKS, MOTOR MOUNTS ETC). TOYOTA DID THE RIGHT THING WITH THE 1ST GENERATION TACOMAS THAT HAD THIS ISSUE. THEY ISSUED RECALLS AND BOUGHT BACK TRUCKS. CONSUMERS WERE LED TO BELIEVE THE FRAME RUST ISSUES WERE CORRECTED ON THE SECOND GENERATION TACOMAS BUT THEY WERE NOT. AS OF NOW TOYOTA IS HANDLING FRAME RUST ISSUES ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS. SOME PEOPLE ARE FIGHTING TO GET NEW FRAMES AND SOME PEOPLE ARE LEFT WITH A TRUCK THAT IS RUSTING AWAY WITH NO HELP FROM TOYOTA. FRAMES RUSTING AWAY TO THE POINT THAT A HOLE THE SIZE OF A HAND CAN FIT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND IS NOT MODIFIED IN ANY WAY. THE VEHICLE IS 8 YEARS AND HAS 64,000 MILES. AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. DEALER DIAGNOSED FAULTY SPIRAL CABLE, $500 REPAIR. AFTER REPAIR, CONDITION RETURNED. SUBSEQUENTLY A RECALL WAS ISSUED BY TOYOTA FOR THE SPIRAL CABLE. NEW SPIRAL CABLE WAS INSTALLED BY DEALER. AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT RETURNED WITHIN 1 WEEK. RETURNED TO DEALER, NEW DIAGNOSIS: NEED TO REPLACE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS. COST $2300 + TAX. DISPUTE STARTED WITH TOYOTA USA. TOYOTA SUBSEQUENTLY OFFERED TO PAY FOR 1/2 OF THE COST OF THE REPLACEMENT PART, LEAVING ME TO PAY THE OTHER HALF AND THE REPLACEMENT LABOR. TEXT OF RECALL: "DUE TO COMBINATION OF FACTORS, A PART IN THE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY IN YOUR VEHICLE CALLED THE SPIRAL CABLE MAY BECOME DAMAGED. IF DAMAGE OCCURS, THIS CAN AFFECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION TO SEVERAL SYSTEMS, INCLUDING THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG. SUCH DAMAGE WOULD CAUSE THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT TO STAY ON AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE, AND THE AIR BAG MAY NOT WORK. THIS COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE DRIVER IN A CRASH IN WHICH THE AIR BAG IS DESIGNED TO INFLATE." THE CRITICAL PART OF THE RECALL NOTICE IS "THE SPIRAL CABLE MAY BECOME DAMAGED. IF DAMAGE OCCURS, THIS CAN AFFECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION TO SEVERAL SYSTEMS, INCLUDING THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG". IT APPEARS THAT TOYOTA RECOGNIZES THE EFFECT OF A DAMAGED SPIRAL CABLE (THE ISSUE OF THE RECALL) ON OTHER SYSTEMS BUT REFUSES TO REPAIR ANY SUCH DAMAGE WHEN FOUND. THE SPIRAL CABLE HAS BEEN REPLACE TWICE, THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS STILL ON, AND ACCORDING TO NYS LAW THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE OF A FACTORY INSTALLED SAFETY COMPONENT. *TR

2005 TOYOTA TACOMA SR5 DBL CAB, 6 CYL, 4.0 ENG. 50K MILES, 4 WHEEL DRIVE, MANUAL TRANSMISSION: DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT TURNED ON AND STAYS ON. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR INFO. ON IT AND HAVE FOUND A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM. GOING BY THE INFO. FOUND ON LINE, FROM GOOGLE TO NEWSGROUPS IT SEEMS THAT THE SPIRAL CABLE IN THE STEERING COLUMN IS FAILING AT A ALARMING RATE. THE TOYOTA DEALERS ARE JUST CHARGING FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND NOT ADMITTING A PRODUCT DEFECT. I AM TAKING MINE TO THE DEALER AND IS $117.00 JUST TO DIAGNOSE IT.. AND I KNOW THIS TAKES THEM 10 MIN OR LESS TO HOOK IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND GET THE ERROR CODES PRINTED. THIS DEALERS ARE CHARGING $90 TO $120 JUST FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC.. AND IT SEEMS THE REPAIRS CAN GO FROM $300 UP TO $800.00. SRS (AIR BAG) ISSUES SHOULD BE COVERED FOR THE LIFE OF A VEHICLE OR SRS (AIR BAGS) SHOULD BE OPTIONAL! IF IT IS A REQUIRED PART LIKE A SEAT BELT TOYOTA SHOULD COVER THE PART FREE. PLEASE TAKE TIME TO REVIEW MY COMPLIANT AND THOSE OF OTHERS. *TR
I OWN A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA, 4X4, 4-CYLINDER, 5-SPEED MANUAL, PURCHASED NEW. IT HAS 92,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE FILED TWO COMPLAINTS, GOING BACK THREE YEARS, WITH MY DEALER AND WITH TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS REGARDING EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE FRAME OF MY VEHICLE. BOTH HAVE TOLD ME IT IS ACCEPTABLE FOR THE FRAME TO BE RUSTING. I DISAGREE. A VEHICLE THAT SHOULD EASILY LAST OVER 200,000 MILES SHOULD BE BUILT ON QUALITY FRAMES. AT SOME POINT IT WILL CAUSE ISSUES AND COULD BE A DANGER IF JOINTS START RUSTING. I HAVE SEARCHED ONLINE AND SEEN OTHER SIMILAR TRUCKS AND ALL OWNERS COMPLAIN OF THIS ISSUE. THE FRAME AND BRACKETS ARE ALL RUSTING EXCESSIVELY, MUCH MORE EXCESSIVELY THAN ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED. THIS STARTED OCCURRING SHORTLY AFTER OWNING THE CAR AND IT HAS GOTTEN TREMENDOUSLY WORSE. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN FRAME DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK AND THE TRUCK IS IN EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION, HAS BEEN WASHED WITH REGULARITY AND EVEN GARAGED. I AM SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAIN WITH THE HOPE OTHERS ARE ALSO COMPLAINING. I KNOW TOYOTA DID A RECALL OF THEIR PREVIOUS MODELS DUE TO THIS ISSUE AND NOTHING IN THEIR PRODUCTION HAS IMPROVED THE WAY THESE FRAMES ARE MADE AND I BELIEVE A RECALL SHOULD BE CONSIDERED TO REMEDY THESE MODEL YEAR ISSUES TOO. *TR
2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR RECALL REPAIRS ON VEHICLE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HIS REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT WAS DENIED FOR THE RECALLS AND TOYOTA NEVER PROVIDED HIM WITH AN EXPLANATION. THE CONSUMER HAS SINCE TRADED THE VEHICLE.
2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED APPROXIMATELY 2 1/2 YEARS AGO, HE EXPERIENCED HIS FIRST SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER STATED AS HE HAD HIS RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE FELT AS THOUGH IT WANTED TO CONTINUE TO MOVE FORWARD. WHEN THE CONSUMER ARRIVED HOME, HE CHECKED THE FLOOR MAT, BUT IT WAS FOUND TO BE PROPERLY SECURED. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE REGARDING SUDDEN ACCELERATION ISSUES. WHEN HE CONTACTED THE DEALER, HE WAS INFORMED THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND HE WOULD RECEIVE A CALL WHEN THEY ARRIVED. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH. THE CONSUMER HAD HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY BEGIN TO REVVED UP WITH THE REAR WHEELS SPINNING AND HOPPING WHILE SLOWLY MOVING FORWARD. THE CONSUMER TURNED THE IGNITION IN THE OVER DRIVE POSITION AND THERE WAS SOME DIFFICULTY TRYING TO PLACE THE SHIFTER IN THE PARK POSITION. THE CONSUMER FINALLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE RECALL PERFORMED. HOWEVER, TWO MONTHS LATER,WHILE SLOWING DOWN, WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV AGAIN. THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED UNWANTED ACCELERATION SEVERAL MORE TIMES. *JB

CONSUMER STATES LOUD NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE AND THAT THE ENGINE WAS OFF KILTER *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE OPENED THE HOOD, HE DISCOVERED THE ENGINE WAS DRASTICALLY LEANING TOWARDS THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE WAS THE ENGINE'S COOLING FAN HITTING THE SHROUD MEANT TO PROTECT IT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER. AN INSPECTION REVEALED THE MOTOR MOUNT WHICH WAS ATTACHED TO THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE BROKEN FREE AND COLLAPSED INTO THE FRAME ITSELF. THERE WAS ALSO EXTENSIVE RUST ON THE FRAME ON THE REMAINDER OF THE FRAME. A TOYOTA SPECIALIST TOOK PICTURES OF THE FAILED MOTOR MOUNT AND RUSTED FRAME. THE CONSUMER STATED TOYOTA HAS A LONG HISTORY OF FRAME RUST ISSUES, AS A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR PREVIOUS MODELS. *JB
SRS LITE CAME ON AND NEVER HAS GONE OUT, FOR THE DRIVERSIDE AIR BAG. AFTER INVESTAGATING THIS PROBLEM, IT SEEMS THAT HUNDREDS OF THESE TOYOTAS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. AT THE DEARSHIP, DIAGNOSIS, IS ABOUT $115.00 TO PULL THE CODE, AND THEN RUN UP TO ABOUT $500.00 FOR REPAIRS. THE SPIRAL CABLE IN THE STEERING COLOMNE HAS A SHORT LIFE. 35K MILE ON SOME AND UP IN MILES AFTER THAT FOR OTHERS. SRS SYSTEMS SUCH AS THIS I UNDERSTAND IS LIFETIME WARRENTY. THAT MAY BE CUT SHORT IF THE AIR BAG DOES NOT INFLATE IF NEEDED. TOYOTA SHOULD BE RESPONABLE, AND FIX THIS PROBLEM, AS THE COST OF REPAIR IS OUT OF REACH FOR MANY PEOPLE. USING INFERIOR WIRES, THAT IS NOT THE CONSUMERS FAULT. I BOUGHT THIS TOYOTA NEW, THINKING THAT TOYOTA WILL LAST A LONG TIME, IT HAS BEEN SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP REGULAR, AND ON TIME. EXCESSIVE RUST BEGAN APPEARING ON THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE AT 50,000 MILES. REVIEWED RUST WITH TOYOTA DEALERSHIP (4 TIMES OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS) AND THIS VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS FOR A RUSTY FRAMES. MY CONCRETE DRIVEWAY IS NOW STAINED WITH THE RUST COMING OFF OF THE VEHICLE. FRAME AND BUMPER IS NOW RUSTY AND GETTING WEAKER AS THE RUST CONTINUES. VEHICLE NOW HAS 90,000 MILES AND FRAME IS COVERED IN RUST. VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE INTEGRITY OF THE FRAME. ADDITIONALLY, I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE STEERING KNUCKLE ON THE VEHICLE -- DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEAR - DUE TO EXTREME RUSTING. *TR
TRUCK BEGAN MAKING LOUD NOISES IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT. TRUCK WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING BAD MOTOR MOUNTS. AT TIME OF REPAIR, MOTOR MOUNT ASSEMBLIES WERE NOTED BY MECHANIC TO HAVE BROKEN OFF THE FRAME DUE TO BAD/WEAKENED WELDS. MOTOR IS RUBBING ON FAN/RADIATOR SHROUD. OWNER HAS DONE INDEPENDENT RESEARCH, INCLUDING COMPLAINTS FILED ON THIS SITE, AND HAS NOTED THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ON-GOING ISSUE WITH 2005 TACOMAS. *TR
MY DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR SOME TIME. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR A HARNESS IN THE STEERING COLUMN BUT THAT DID NOT REPAIR IT. THEN THEY TESTED THE ONE THING AND ANOTHER AND SAY IT IS A COMMON ISSUE WHERE IN THE FENDER IT CAN RUB AND CAUSE THE AIR BAG TO NOT DEPLOY. I HAVE SEEN A RECENT RECALL ON VARIOUS MODELS WHERE THEY CALL THIS A SAFETY CONCERN AND CAN ONLY WONDER IF IT IS ALSO THE CASE ON THE TOYOTA TACOMA PRERUNNER I DRIVE. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA PRERUNNER 4X4 WITH ONLY 83,000 MILES. THERE IS RECURRING ISSUES WITH THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS GOING OUT. FRONT LEFT HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 YEARS AGO, THEN FRONT LEFT STUB AXLE WAS REPLACED LESS THAN A YEAR LATER UNDER WARRANTY BY TOYOTA. THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING ALSO WENT OUT 2 YEARS AGO AND WERE REPLACED AND NOW THE LEFT SIDE IS GOING OUT AGAIN. *KB
MY AIR BAG LIGHT WENT ON FOR NO REASON - NO SERVICE OR IMPACT TO TRIGGER THE SENSOR. I PAID A TOYOTA DEALER $112 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND THEY FOUND CODES B1660 & B1801, REQUIRING ME TO REPLACE THE SPIRAL CABLE. THE COST WAS ABOUT $570 BEFORE TAX. I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO DO THE REPAIR, SO THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS STILL ON. THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT THE AIR BAG WOULD NOT FUNCTION IN A CRASH IF THIS WAS NOT REPAIRED. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART AND SHOULD BE REPLACED BY TOYOTA WHETHER I AM UNDER WARRANTY OR NOT BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY FEATURE OF THE VEHICLE, AND OTHER MECHANICS WILL NOT WORK ON AIR BAGS. *KB

THERE ARE ENTIRELY TOO MANY OF THESE THINGS GOING BAD. A SIMPLE SEARCH ON GOOGLE FOR TACOMA SPIRAL CABLE BRINGS UP SCORES OF PEOPLE WITH THESE THINGS GOING BAD, SOME AT 30-40 THOUSAND MILES! IT IS REDICULOUS THAT TOYOTA HAS HAD THIS ONGOING PROBLEM AND DONE NOTHING! AFTER ALL THE CRAP ABOUT UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND FLOORMATS I WOULD EXPECT THEM TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, BUT APPARENTLY SAFETY SYSTEMS ARE'T THAT IMPORTANT TO THEM. THE CONSUMER STATED THE FRAME IS THE VERY FOUNDATION OF THE VEHICLE AND SHOULD NEVER BREAK OR CRACK UNDER NORMAL USE. SO I TOOK MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHARGED ME $60 TO DIAGNOSE THE CODE. ONCE DIAGNOSED, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE SPIRAL CABLE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT AN ESTIMATE TO REPLACE THE PART AT $420. I ASKED THE SALES PERSON IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HOW DID IT BREAK. TO MY SURPRISE SHE SAID ? I DON?T KNOW BUT IT SEAMS LIKE ALMOST EVERY 2005 AND 2006 TACOMA THAT REACHES 75,000 MILES HAS THIS PROBLEM?. AT THIS POINT I CAN NOT AFFORD THE CABLE AS I HAD TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP AT THE COST OF $600. SO THIS MEANS THAT I GET TO SACRIFICE MY SAFETY UNTIL I CAN SAVE UP THE MONEY. THIS COMES FROM A 30 YEAR OLD WHO AT 15 YEARS OF AGE ALMOST LOST HIS BROTHER DUE TO A BROKEN BACK AND A TORN AORTA IN A CAR ACCIDENT. AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH MY FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE MY TRUCK LUNGES FORWARD IN A VERY DANGEROUS ABRUPT MANNER AS THOUGH SOMEONE REAR ENDED ME. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN AT STOP LIGHTS A FEW SECONDS AFTER I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. A SECOND ISSUE IS THAT MY PAINT IS CRACKING AND PEELING ON MY ROOF AND MY CLEAR COAT IS NOTICEABLY BAD ON THE EDGES OF MY HOOD AND DOORS. DROVE ABOUT 12 MILES FROM MY HOME TO MY DOCTORS OFFICE, AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE. I HAD TO BACK UP A FEW FEET TO GET A BETTER ANGLE TO ENTER THE PARKING SPACE. WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE PICKUP SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO ITS MAXIMUM RPM. I HIT A CAR IN THE PARKING SPACE NEXT TO WHERE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK, AND WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PUSHED THE CAR OUT OF THE PARKING LOT. I WAS ABLE TO FINALLY GET THE GEAR SHIFT INTO PARK, AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL AT MAXIMUM RPM. I TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF AND CALLED THE POLICE. THE POLICE NOTED THAT SKID MARKS INDICATED THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED THROUGHOUT THE EVENT AND DECLARED THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND ORDERED IT IMPOUNDED. IT WAS HAULED TO A BODY SHOP FOR ABOUT $1700 IN BUMPER REPLACEMENT COST AND THEN HAULED TO A NEARBY TOYOTA DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THEY CLAIMED TO FIND NOTHING WRONG. I COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA AND THEY HAD AN INDEPENDENT INSPECTOR TO GO OVER THE VEHICLE AND THEY SENT ME A LETTER SAYING THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ACCELERATOR OR BRAKES. FURTHER COMPLAINTS TO TOYOTA AND OUR INSURANCE COMPANY HAVE YIELDED NO RESULTS. MY NECK WAS INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT AND WE HAVE ASKED TOYOTA TO BUY THE PICKUP BACK FROM US, AND SO FAR THEY HAVE REFUSED. *TR

I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN MY 2005 TACOMA PICKUP WHILE PARKING. I WAS TURNING LEFT INTO A PARKING SPOT AND APPLYING THE BRAKE WHEN THE TACOMA SUDDENLY ACCELERATED JUMPING THE PARKING CURVE. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE BY APPLYING HEAVY PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THROWING THE AUTOMATIC DRIVE INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN PARK. I CHECKED TO SEE IF I COULD HAVE BEEN STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR BY MISTAKE BUT THE LOUD RUBBER SCREECHING OF THE TIRES WERE A SURE INDICATION THAT MY BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED AS THE CAR SURGED FORWARD. ALSO I INSPECTED THE FLOOR MAT (WHICH HAD ALREADY BEEN INSPECTED BY TOYOTA) AND SAW THAT THERE WAS NO INTERFERENCE WITH THE ACCELERATOR. I IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THEY JUST REFERRED ME TO TOYOTA USA VIA A PHONE NUMBER. I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA USA AND REPORTED THE INCIDENCE. I DEFINITELY BELIEVE THERE IS A DEFECT IN THIS CAR AND THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESS. THIS IS DANGEROUS. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED. IN 2006 I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. THEY SAID THERE WAS NONE AT THAT TIME. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND FOR CLOSE TO $100 THEY TOLD ME IT WAS INDICATING SPIRAL CABLE FAILURE. THIS MEANS THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT (I AM NOT SURE IF IT MEANS THE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY WHEN NOT IN AN ACCIDENT). THE QUOTE BEFORE TAXES WAS OVER $600. I AM VERY CONCERNED SINCE THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THIS TO OCCUR (NO ACCIDENT, NOT EVEN BUMPED OR TAPPED). WHEN MY WIFE PICKED UP THE TRUCK LATER SHE IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THE LOWER HALF OF THE PEDAL HAD BEEN CUT OFF AND THAT SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE THE VEHICLE, HER FOOT CANNOT REACH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP THE SAME AFTERNOON, AND SINCE THEN HAVE TRIED TO GET THIS RESOLVED BY PHONE AND EMAIL. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD REPEATEDLY BY TOYOTA THAT NOTHING CAN BE DONE. THE VEHICLE THEN BEGAN TO INDEPENDENTLY CREEP FORWARD. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKES BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE THEN ACCELERATED AND ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT APPLIED EXTREME FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS UNDAMAGED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE FLOOR MATS AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 40,000.

EVERYTIME I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA AND IT REACHES THREE COMPLAINTS OR REPAIRS THEY DENY THE CLAIM SO IT DOESN'T GO AGAINST THEIR INCIDENTS FOR RECALLS. THE LAST REAR END WENT IN APPROX 4000 MILES AGO FROM ROHRICH TOYOTA. SOMEONE REALLY SHOULD INVESTIGATE THE PRACTICES THAT TOYOTA AND THEIR DEALERSHIPS HAVE. I HAVE 77000 MILES AND AN EXTENDER WARRANTY 10 YEAR 100000 WARRANTY THE OEM JUST RAN OUT BUT I'M STILL WITHIN MY MILEAGE AND AGE. *TR
